Arsenal team to play Sheffield United

—————-Leno

Bellerin, Gabriel, Luiz, Tierney

—————–Elneney

—–Ceballos—————–Saka

Willian—-Nketiah—–Aubamayang

Like the team, return to a back 4 and Elneny gives a bit more defensive nous than Xhaka, meaning that Ceballos can move further forward.

  1. LB says:

    Well it needed changing.

  2. LBG says:

Like your formation. Not sure it will shape up like that.
Hope Willian plays in middle, dropped, with Aubang and Eddie closer to each other. Saka attacking left wing back.

  3. LB says:

Ahh, I see what you mean, yes that would be good as well.

  4. LB says:

    Is this it?

    —————-Leno

    Bellerin, Gabriel, Luiz, Tierney, Saka

    —————–Willian

  5. RockyLives says:

    That’s the 11 LB.

Formation I assume is 3-4-3 when we’re in position and dropping to a back 4/5 when defending.

Interesting the Ninny selected ahead of Xhaka. He doesn’t pass long as well as Granit but he is incredibly good at retaining possession: I don’t want to jinx him but he hardly ever gives up possession.

  6. VP says:

Luiz is a worry at times

  7. fred1266 says:

Whats going on with Willian for the first 20 minutes

  8. RockyLives says:

One thing I really miss about games when there’s no crowd?
No jeering of the oppo GK when they are time wasting.

  9. RockyLives says:

Alan Smith never ceases to annoy me when he’s co-commentating

  10. RockyLives says:

Always so negative about his old club.

He is famously a Leicester supporter but you think he’d show a bit of love for Arsenal once in a while

  11. VP says:

    Thankyou Pepe

  12. Rasp says:

I’ve walked in the door having just been listening to quite a turgid game on the radio, switched the tv on and we scored two crackers 😂

  13. LBG says:

Perhaps the Smith’s, Merse’s of this World can shut their mouths now.
“You are hard to listen to, Smith!” In fact…..

  14. LBG says:

    Rasp
Nothing turgid. The usual opposition organised behind the ball, but not the usual Arsenal, opening up the can with a Mikel opener!!

  15. Rasp says:

Thanks LBG … you seldom get a balanced report off TS. I think patience is another thing that Mikel has instilled in our boys, I imagine we are scoring more goals in the second half of games.

  16. Rasp says:

Any thoughts on Elneny ‘the water carrier’ and Ceballos in for Xhaka?

  17. LBG says:

Dont you start, Rasp, LB and I are best of friends!
Discipline, confidence on the ball, one for all and all for one, we know our role, “the Mikel way.”
80 mins gone, my MOM, Dani Ceballos, and get off for a rest, sir!

  18. LBG says:

Good goal scored by a man who should not be on the pitch!

  19. LB says:

Ok, I am going to get in line to say it: ELNENY MOTM

  20. LBG says:

    Thank you Gunners!
Manure 3 Totteringham 3. Five sendings off!

  21. LB says:

Gabriel was very good as well.

  22. Rasp says:

Sorry LBG, I haven’t been keeping up with the comments … it was an entirely innocent observation. I like the ball retention and smooth passing that Elneny brings to the side

  23. LBG says:

    4-4 then!

  24. LBG says:

    No apology required Rasp.
Agree totally, LB. Gabriel excellent so early on in his experience of us and Premier opposition.
Even Bellerin is playing closer to what we expect.
Willian came into game. Tierney and Saka some beautiful crosses into dangerous positions in box. As I commented on 80 mins, everything went through Dani and his work rate with that gangly run is phenomenal. Eddie never let’s me down.
In truth, for a team having played two intense games against the Dippers, an better than ever good performance.

  25. LBG says:

” better than very good performance!”

  26. RA says:

Bellerin is definitely playing the way I expect him to.

The defend/attack from the back works pretty well against an attacking team, but against a team playing with 11 defenders it makes attack difficult.

On the other hand — both our goals were beauties!

Don’t know why, but Mikel seems to know better than me — what’s he got against goldfish? 😉

The opening midfield of Saka, Ceb, and El Ninny were very good today.

  27. LBG says:

First time I’ve heard an ex- football player say “red” card rather than “he will have pleased his manager and taken one for the team” re that Shaw assault. Well done Neville.

  28. Rasp says:

Good day for the bookies. I wonder what odds you would have got for these last two score lines?

  29. Aaron says:

Guess ALL the” top” clubs now have a proper beat down on the books. lmfao……

  30. fatgingergooner says:

Football is barely a contact sport these days so it’s no surprise that the goals are increasing. It’s impossible to tackle! Defenders and even Goalkeepers aren’t bought for their defensive abilities anymore. It’s all about how good someone is at coming out from the back. Having a good defender these days is gold dust (Gabriel looks the part), even more so because modern full backs are more like wingers and most can’t defend or don’t want to defend. Most teams these days basically play with a back 2, a holding midfielder in front, and a sweeper behind who wears gloves!

VAR is like a back up defender as you can play a high line and most of the time get away with it. It finally caught up with Liverpool today though as they got battered by midfield runners. Great game plan by Villa and it will be interesting to see if others can execute it against the champions. I can’t imagine Liverpool will change their ways as it’s been so successful, but that high line was absolutely ripped to shreds today.

I fully expect the goals to continue flying in as the level of defenders has dropped massively. £80m for Maguire….!? He can barely run! 😂

  31. fatgingergooner says:

Great to see Pepe come to the party today. Fantastic goal and looked dangerous.

Hopefully we get some more Pepe Parties moving forward.

  32. Gööner In Exile says:

FGG I’m not sure defending isn’t valued anymore it just isn’t the same, players need to stay on their feet and read the game, there was a fairly good England centre back in the 60’s and his whole game was based on that and passing out from the back.

So maybe this is just a return to the beautiful game? After the turgid 70’s, 80’s and some 90’s football of kick bollock and bite.

Defending and fouls have never changed, play the ball cleanly before man and it’s not a foul even with some contact. Play man before ball it’s a foul. It really is that simple. The only change had been to take away excessive force or endangering a player.

I like Elneny a lot, always have he does simple things well and as others have said keeps the ball, he may not have a Longe range quarterback style pass but that doesn’t mean he only plays 5 yard passes, he understands triangles and rarely goes backwards.

  33. Sue says:

Gunnersaurus has been axed!! RA.. what will you do now?! 😝
I’m in seventh heaven 😁 Thank you, Villa..

  34. Gööner In Exile says:

Sue you tease, I am sure he will be back when we start playing games again but made redundant after 27 years service is a shame for him. Unfortunately I fear a lot more will follow as there is probably no way the club can afford to continue paying wages while the fans stay away.

I doubt any activity today coming in unless we sell more players as all clubs are walking a financial tightrope at the moment.

  35. RockyLives says:

    New Post

  36. Sue says:

    Bang on, GIE..👍
Should be at least 3 departing…can’t believe it’s the final day and we still haven’t addressed our midfield issues!! Well, we’ve reached desperate measures time.. panic buy??!!
