Fair Play? Not on your Nelly. The Round of 16 is complete.

Group H ends in a disgraceful show of bad sportsmanship with Japan passing the ball endlessly sideways, and Poland allowing them to do just that.

Senegal go out of the tournament on the fair play rule. Such irony. The World Cup hasn’t seen such appalling behaviour since Germany v Austria in 1982 fixed their result to both qualify at the expense of Algeria. This game led to final group games being played simultaneously.

Group G was the expected anti-climax predicted, with everything more or less decided beforehand.

So we have avoided Brazil just as Gareth planned….

    Probs lose to Colombia though!

  2. mickydidit89 says:

    Yes, exactly

All very well trying to avoid Brasil in the 8th’s but I would prefer to play Japan over Columbia in order to at least get that far

Crikey, it may be 30 degrees outside, but there is an awful lot of indoor time this weekend

  3. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All,

It is inevitable that the suits should arrange a cockup like yesterday. but things could have been worse had we drawn with Belgium, then both groups would have been sorted by “fairplay”.

Do you think Belgians are happy with their win? They picked up two obvious yellow cards and could have been playing for the draw.

No football today, not even any cricket. Might have to talk to Mrs R. 😦

  4. mickydidit89 says:

    General question:

I noted how RC yesterday went for Senegal and Japan in their respective games, because he wanted representatives from Asia and Africa in the knock outs

How does anyone else decide when otherwise impartial

    Eddie is obviously war record

    Erik Scandi or underdog

Me? Mmm, must think, but something along the lines of are they an attacking goal machine kinda side, and would I like to live there

  5. chas says:

    Nice food?

  6. mickydidit89 says:

Yip, that’s part of the live bit, but also culture, geography, culture and shit

  7. chas says:

    Cleanest fair play record?

  8. Big Raddy says:

Is it any wonder England were awful last night with a midfield of Dier and Delph. The game was crying out for JW to add a little zest and creativity.

  9. chas says:

    Most bizarre national dress?

  10. Big Raddy says:

Not having Ronaldo, Messi or Neymar?

  11. mickydidit89 says:

culture AND culture….more coffee me thinks

  12. Big Raddy says:

Best Mascots? Snappiest dressed trainer? Fans?

    I give up

  13. Eddie says:

hu.mour boys. How could one live in Germany or Japan, or Scandinavia?? dead serious, studious, conscientious so and sos

  14. Eddie says:

this is not my view, someone sent it to me yesterday, but I thought it was funny:

after morocco, iran and egypt went out of the competition, England is the last Muslim country left in this WC

  15. RA says:

    Good Morning, lieblings,

Fair play seems a fair enough way to break an impasse, but it is so subjective as some referees are truly awful and do not give even yellows for tackles that are red, and others give yellows like confetti — that’s allowing 4 years of planning and training for the affected countries knocked out in such a way.

So, let’s go for it — have a telephone vote by the refs and let them decide who gets the bullet, and having set a precedent they can also vote for who is the winner of the WC.

Still bollix — so how about just letting both teams go thru, and telling Columbia to take a hike? 😀

  16. RA says:

I have just heard [12:15 Friday] that Calum Chambers is signing a 4 year contract extension today.

This must be because the new guy rates him, and instead of being released (which was heavily rumoured in the waning months of AW’s reign) he is seen as a possible replacement for the older CBs such as Kosser and Passthepolos – maybe.

Interesting. Calum’s problems when played at RB were his obvious lack of pace — that should not be such a problem when played at CB — anyway fingers crossed it works out.

  17. VP of Oz says:

I hope the following teams win –
    Portugal
    France
    Mexico
    Belgium
    Spain
    Croatia
    Sweden
    Colombia

    Then –
    Portugal
    Mexico
    Croatia
    Sweden

    Then –
    Portugal
    Croatia

    Then –
    Croatia

    Golden Boot CR7
    Golden Ball Modric

Not sure if it all matches up right, but seems about right.
    That was easy.
Now I need to think about who will come runners up to Arsenal next season

  18. RC78 says:

Good for England to be in the lower half of the draw. I hope you make it to the Semis and more.

  19. Eddie says:

RC – semis?? This country is ready for the finals and winning the game! The flags, the t-shirts, Harry Kane songs flooded the country, uprising sir

  20. RC78 says:

    – Gutted about Senegal as there is no African team now in the tournament

    – If I were the French coach, this is how I would line up vs Argentina:
Lloris – Pavard, Varane, Kimpembe, Hernandez – Tolisso, Kante, Matuidi – Pogba – Mbappe, Giroud -> A 4-3-1-2 with Tolisso and Matuidi and without Griezmann

BUT this is how we will line-up:
Lloris – Paverd, Varane, Umtiti, Hernandez – Pogba, Kante, Matuidi – Mbappe, Giroud, Griezmann

In the end we will lose despite talented players

  21. RC78 says:

Eddie – As I said earlier, you don” have the mean players needed to win a WC unless Maguire, Henderson and Kane show some more agressive attitude, you won’t win it.

In 98 and 00, when we won WC and EC, we had:
Desailly, Lizarazu, Deschamps, Vieira, Henry – these guys they can play rough and even Zidane played rough and you need to instill fear in your opponents as well

  22. Big Raddy says:

RC. I cannot believe France will start without Greizmann. To have Lemar, Dembele and Greiz on the bench would be a sadness for the viewing public, they are all great players

  23. Eddie says:

RC – nothing to do with me, I am Croatian 🙂

  24. Eddie says:

he doesn’t know his geometry, you can draw a surface under any 3 points in the space, but not always under any 4. So it seems we the fans are the spare fooking leg at the table

  25. mickydidit89 says:

Thank God football is back today. Yesterday was simply ghastly 🙂
