When will we see The Emery Effect?

Just won our first trophy of the new season as Beth Mead was voted England’s Women’s Young Player of the Year. Well played Beth.

It is early days in the transfer market. It will be a very busy few weeks as the transfer period has been shortened to conclude on Aug 9th instead of Aug 31st, plus few players will be willing to discuss moving clubs during the World Cup.

We have discussed at length the needs of the team though Emery may well disagree. Do you think it was the new manager who decided the shirt numbers? If so, Cech is our Number One and my hopes of us signing a top quality young GK will be dashed. Perhaps the young GK’s at Arsenal are considered to be good enough to step up the the first team.

How will Emery assess the strength of the squad without actually working with them? He will not get the chance until after the WC and the player’s holiday time. I doubt we will see the Emery effect until after Xmas.

Anyone who watched the France vs Italy game last night will have seen why Lacazette is not in their final 23. Two teenage front men whose combined transfer fees are €400m (yes – €400m) were frighteningly good. Lemar got a short kickabout and our former target looks top quality, though whether he is worth €100m is doubtful. I can see France winning the WC playing some wonderful attacking football, if they don’t it will be due to crap management.

Not much going on, hence the randomness (is that a word) of the post!

Read that Arsenal want to sign a 5ft 6 in winger.Hopefully the new gunner boss know the epl is full of thugs who will not hesitate to injure a diminutive guy thereby reducing the gunners offence.

  2. mickydidit89 says:

    Thanks Erik

Didn’t know deadline brought forwards to Aug 9, which is both sensible, as well as concentrating the excitement

Now, what’s all this about shirt numbers?

  3. Big Raddy says:

Hector gets the 2, Elneny 4. No 3 or 5 so far

  4. mickydidit89 says:

    That’s a bit rubbish isn’t it as there’s nothing new 🙂

    I was expecting No’s 1-11, with a ? next to 3, 6 and 8

    Oh and No1 I suppose

  5. fred1266 says:

Read a story yesterday about we are keen on dembele that would be a really nice buy

  6. Big Raddy says:

Fred. It all depends upon which Dembele – there are loads of them!

  7. fred1266 says:

French one from Barcelona, can’t really spell his first name

What emery preferred formation? Think he used 433 at psg

  8. Big Raddy says:

No chance Fred. He cost €150m+ last summer

  9. chas says:

    Cheers, BR.

I’m hoping we’ll see the Emery effect from day one.

It seems likely that a decent core of our players will have a full pre-season.

There should be plenty of time to assess strengths and weaknesses and implement his own ideas as to how he wants the team to play.

Phasing Mesut back into the structure after a post World Cup rest, will be child’s play.

Comfortably in the top 4 by Christmas and mounting a serious title challenge in 2019. Sorted. ☺

On a different note, I’m looking forward to …

victories resulting in the manager getting credit ……

and blame for poor results not automatically being laid at the feet of the manager as Emery will be given some leeway to get his ideas across.

  10. fred1266 says:

Chas saw u in the line to buy an Iwobi Nigeria jersey, we’re u successful

  11. mickydidit89 says:

Then get a different Dembele. Crikey, not difficult 🙄
Talking of signings, as well as being happy with a Dembele, I’d also be happy with anyone who’s name began N…somethingorother

Now a regret. Just took a big pile of wood and set fire to it with a whoopee, we’ll have a bbq, then just seen England are playing Nigeria and I’d rather watch some football. Damn

  12. mickydidit89 says:

Oh noooo, Iwobi is playing. That makes it much much worse. Rain, pleeeeease

  13. fred1266 says:

    Nice finish from Iwobi

despite being a born optimist I don’t think Emery’s effect will be instantaneous. No, I think it could take him a season or two to establish ‘his’ team

only the likes of Mourinho can buy the whole new team during one summer and kick them into a winning mode. More conservative managers take their time

Let’s hope Unai is of the old school type of boy.

  15. chas says:

    Optimist – hahaha hahaha

Mourinho buy a whole new team in one summer and kick them into winning mode – hahahahahaha

  16. I think Emery will be an instant hit. I think about Conté when he came in to Chelsea. He basically inherited that team and only purchased one or two players, with Kanté being the main purchase. As a self-identified optimist as well, I really hope just a new, fresh face with a couple of signings will be an instant success.

  17. Rasp says:

Thanks Raddy. I don’t see how UA can fail to make an instant impact. In some ways his job is easy …. solidify the defence, make it clear to every player what you expect of them, get everyone working hard and build a balanced team with a system that works.

Spooky has just shown his face again as I’ve just been looking up how The Germans deploy Mesut. Pretty sure last WC he was out right a bit, now, in every line up he’s central in a three ie their best player 🙂

    The tweet…ha ha 🙂

  23. chas says:

Mesut must be one of the top players in the world.
Arsenal Fan TV are talking about selling him.

  24. mickydidit89 says:

Shall I do a Mesut post

  27. chas says:

All posts always welcome, Micky…….as you know.

GN5 sent his final best ever seasons post to me several days ago and I haven’t had a chance to format it – must do it today.

  28. chas says:

The AFTV thing about Mesut was probably a balanced discussion which decided he was unsellable, but as I refuse to read their stuff I’ll never know – hahaha.

  29. Eddie says:

    eboue 🙂 🙂 168k views!!!

  30. Eddie says:

Ozil’s future has been decided before Emery’s appointment. It must have been part of the negotiations.

It would have been a VERY unpopular move from the club to sell our best player. No point getting a good manager and weaken the team. Unless Emery doesn’t want Mezut which again wouldn’t make any sense – how can you not like him?

Nah, Ozil is staying put, I am optimistic.

  31. Eddie says:

so far we are linked with 2 defenders, both weird looking – Medhi Benatia 31 and Benjamin Pavard 22. Source – not Daily Mail.

  32. Eddie says:

Daily Mail spotted Arsene, his daughter with her boyfriend and ex wife with a wasp between her teeth and probably boyfriends’ parents. Happy families in Cambridge

  33. Eddie says:

…Daily mail claim Wenger looked relaxed

me thinks he looks like someone who’d rather look at water than his ex wife 🙂 no love lost there

  34. Eddie says:

    bye, have a good day

  35. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All,

Great stuff chas. What time is the Legends game? Evening I hope

  37. chas says:

Apologies for not being around to put your post up, Micky.
It was too late to do so by the time I got back.

    Tomorrow OK?
    Will be early though.

  38. chas says:

As far as the Wenger photos are concerned….
I know happily married men who would rather stare at water than at their current wives, let alone their ex wives.

This is not sexist as the same applies to happily married women, too.

  39. Eddie says:

    I wasn’t criticizing just observing
I would much rather stare at pile of dog shit than at a pile of shit that was my husband. Dog shit has more substance

Emery closing on N’Zonzi defending midfielder. Ok, so the press are linking as with EVERY available defender, do they think we need any?

  40. mickydidit89 says:

All cool Chas re post. Absolutely whenever, or even never 🙂

  41. Big Raddy says:

Bolleaux. Can’t watch the Legends game as it is for UK users only.
