Howay The Lads

Mid-table, virtually meaningless clash? Exciting PL game between two highly experienced, quality managers? The chance to see world class footballers giving their best? Or a mix or all three?

IMO any Arsenal game is anticipated with bated breath, I love to watch my team; sadly, in recent time the excitement has dissipated after 30 mins as we muck about with hardly a shot on target; hopefully the new attack can change this.

PEA can be the answer.

Unknown.jpeg

We are on our best winning run of the season, admittedly we have played some very average teams, most of whom are relegation threatened. Newcastle are also on a fine run and are now safe.  Will both teams give it the full beans? I doubt it.

We haven’t lost to Newcastle since 2010 but we have yet to win an away PL fixture in 2018. One of these runs will continue. Apparently we have not lost 5 away games in a row since 1925!

My Team:

Cech

Chambers    Mustafi     Holding

Bellerin      Xhaka    Elneny    Iwobi

Ozil

PEA    Welbeck

A few second string players, maybe Nelson or Maitland- Niles will get a kick. Ramsey, who suffered a very nasty cut midweek, Kos, Nacho, should be rested. Maybe Ozil benched for Nelson with Iwobi “in the hole”.

Early kick-off following a heavy Sunday lunch. Hope I can stay awake for the second half.

    Morning Raddy,

8:30am kick off here so no alcohol for me – a tad to early.

The game that still irks me would be the 4-4 tie with Phil Dowd starring for Newcastle – sends Diably off – gives two non-existent penalties – and a very doubtful free kick – what a total turd.

  2. VP of Oz says:

    COYants

Lets fire up, we’ve got everything to play for. We could mathematically still make the top 4…. or not

I’m looking forward to an inform Danny playing with Laca Pea & company

Its also a 10:30pm game here so very civilised

  3. mickydidit89 says:

    Thanks Erik

Surely a hearty and wet lunch is the ideal preparation

Roast beef, yorkshires with horseradish and I’ll be all set for a goal fest.

  4. LB says:

Yah, football, real football, football that we like and football that means something to us.

    Thanks for the read BR

  5. Big Raddy…
Your line-ups get more weird each week.
    3 centre-backs and only one full-back?
Unless Iwobi is now a “wing-back”.
Oh wait… he could be in the hole you say.

Has no-one else noticed your nonsense or are they keeping mum ’cause they feel sorry for you.
    I do.

  6. Rasp says:

Thanks Raddy, win this and we will only be 3 points behind the chavs, so we should try to stop this being the lowest we’ve finished a season under AW.

More time for Ozil, Aubameyang and Lacazette to learn to play together

Oh dear, I’ve just seen the teamsheet … Belleri, Ozil, Ramsey and Wilshere out … 😦

  7. I reckon this could be more like it…

Cech, Chambers, Mustafi, Holding, Monreal, Xhaka, Elneny, Willock, Iwobi, Lacazette, Aubameyang

  8. Gunner N5
A game that irks me is Southampton vs Chelsea yesterday.

Southampton were practically cruising at 2-0.
We’d be level with Chelsea (if we win today), if not for Southampton’s total collapse. Shambolic!

Substitute Giroud scored twice for those who don’t know; his first was an really excellent header.

  10. Big Raddy says:

Interesting team. Wish Willock the best of luck.

Bi Al. Firstly, thank you for your sympathy, every little helps.

Secondly, diss me again and I will have to send Mrs. R. to beat some respect into you 🙂

  11. chas says:

    BR
    I think that’s a damn fine pre-match for a pretty lacklustre fixture.
    I’m hoping there’s at least 7 goals.

  12. RA says:

    Nice on BR,

    Wow – great goal!!! 0 : 1

I see that young Willock is making his debut today, and that pleases me — in addition there are 3 other young ‘uns on the bench.

  13. Big Raddy says:

Cracking goal. Brilliant cross field pass, super control from PEA, clever cross, clinical finish

  14. Big Raddy says:

Penalty! That was handball. Taylor shafts us again

  15. fred1266 says:

Is PEA playing on the wings

  16. fred1266 says:

Nah that would have been soft

  17. chas says:

  18. fred1266 says:

2 games mustafi beaten the same way

  19. Big Raddy says:

Bum. Why can’t we hold a lead?

  20. mickydidit89 says:

    No puddings and still late

    Oh well

  21. chas says:

I just fancy a sticky toffee pudding with custard and cream. Yum

  22. RA says:

Mustafi can be very good — and really useless.

  23. chas says:

    Mustafi standard challenge

  24. chas says:

Chambers could be on a hat trick if he wasn’t such a lumbering defender with no skill in front of goal.

  25. RA says:

Umm, I thought we had bought some top notch goal scoring forwards? Are these fellers impersonators?

  26. Big Raddy says:

We just saw the difference between Willock and Ramsey. At least he was in a position to score.

  27. Rasp says:

    Arsenal with 72% possession …..

  28. chas says:

5 goals in the second half, cmon ffs.

  29. RA says:

But LaCaz should have taken the shot on instead of whacking in for the youngster to shoot, BR.

  30. Big Raddy says:

Micky you missed a very entertaining half.

We should be ahead, PEA looks top quality., Mustafi doesn’t.

    RA I agree

  31. fatgingergooner says:

Willock and Nelson both looked a bit out of their depth in consecutive weeks. Hopefully they continue to get game time over the next few weeks and build their confidence, otherwise, it could be loan spells for the pair of them next season.

  32. mickydidit89 says:

Phew, thanks to Chas for the Laca goal

  33. mickydidit89 says:

A half time slider is simply showing off 🙂

  34. chas says:

    The commentary is killing me.
Worst thing about the first half by a mile.

Good open game, couple of quality goals- what’s not to like in a mid-table nothing on-it end of season fixture.

  35. mickydidit89 says:

    ready for goals
    let’s go

  36. chas says:

Absolutely no reason not to wear red and white. Last desperate attempt to sell one of the worst recent kits.

Need a goal, starting to doze.

  37. fatgingergooner says:

You’d think Shelvey was Lionel Messi the way the commentators were banging on about him first half.

  38. chas says:

    Earplugs required.

  39. chas says:

I was thinking more Andrea Pirlo, FGG. 😆

  40. fred1266 says:

    More useless than good

  41. fred1266 says:

That would be to easy for us chas

  42. chas says:

Right I’m off to peel some taters.
    COYSIG

  43. chas says:

    What would,Fred?

  44. fatgingergooner says:

    Well that was wank!

  45. Big Raddy says:

Throwing away more points and yet again 1-0 up, 2-1 down 😦

  46. RA says:

That’s terrible — Chas deserts his post and they score!! Boo …

  47. mickydidit89 says:

    COYSIG?

    Mmm, that’ll keep me awake

  48. fatgingergooner says:

Auba and Laca have looked decent. Everyone else has looked like very average squad players, which is pretty much what they are! We haven’t even come out for 2nd half yet.

  49. RA says:

What is it with these pathetic girly headers our defenders produce with no danger — they loop nowhere but up in the air and gift them a goal. Sheesh.

  50. mickydidit89 says:

come on RA, help us out with COYSIG

  51. fatgingergooner says:

    Shit Inbred Gooners?
    Shit Inept Gooners?
    Soft Inept Gooners?

  52. RA says:

Maybe it’s :- Come On You Suckers I’m Gone.

  53. chas says:

Can we miss out on Europa with 7th? ☺

  54. mickydidit89 says:

    ha ha’s

  55. Rasp says:

According to the BBCs stats we’ve had 72% possession and not a single shot in the second half … can that be true?

  56. fatgingergooner says:

Our defence and shape needs so much work. My prediction today was that we would concede at least 2 goals and tbh that’s my prediction most games. We are awful defensively. We can’t afford to drop the likes of Özil, Ramsey and Mkhi because when we do we will struggle to score 3 goals which is what we need most games to get points.

  57. Rasp says:

I hope Athletico aren’t better than Newcastle 😆

  58. chas says:

    Rasp
Watching the game on BBC.Com via the possession stats must be almost as enthralling as watching it on TV. ☺

  59. fatgingergooner says:

Rasp, I’m not convinced we’ve tried to have a shot. We’ve just strolled about knocking it side to side. Can’t expect much more with not a single creative player in the team.

  60. Rasp says:

I’m guessing its the usual stuff FGG, loads of possession, but slow to get the ball forward, ok when we have the ball but rubbish when we haven’t.

This will be reality check about number 10 for this season, our away form has been diabolical.

  61. mickydidit89 says:

You just focus on the cones, Rasp
Might be true, not telling. Does on target’ish count?

  62. fatgingergooner says:

That could be the match report Rasp! 😂

  63. Rasp says:

😆 Micky …. were the cones deployed? Who weaved, and who didn’t …. I need to know

  64. Rasp says:

    I’ve just thought of a new song….

    One two to the Arsenal
    One two to the Arsenal
    One two to the Arsenal
    One two to the Arsenal

  65. fatgingergooner says:

I think the cones came out for the second half! The players certainly didn’t.

  66. Rasp says:

Here’s your starter for 10 …. How many away points have Arsenal accrued this year? …..

  67. mickydidit89 says:

Is the number higher or lower than 30, Rasp?

  68. fatgingergooner says:

    I’m guessing 8.

  69. Rasp says:

Try a big fat zero …..

  70. fatgingergooner says:

My level of supporting has now come down to me being more bothered about the Man U result because I’ve got 3 of their players in my fantasy team. I couldn’t care less about the Arsenal score! 😂

What a sad state of affairs.

  71. mickydidit89 says:

ooops, i thought it was goals scored
    still pathetic
    i quit

  72. fatgingergooner says:

Oh I see, I thought you meant this season. Can’t be much more for the whole season can it?

    Everton
    Palace
    Chelsea draw

That’s all I can think of.

  73. Rasp says:

We haven’t picked up a single point in the league away from home in 2018 ….

  74. chas says:

Gonna be a bastard trying to make that match report interesting.

Might try a recipe for Coronation Chicken in the middle of it. 😊

Still my best effort, eh P?

  75. Rasp says:

FGG … the widget in the side bar shows our home and away form.

  76. mickydidit89 says:

I didn’t expect either a 1st XI or a gut busting performance, so not really bothered

I’ll defo. bother with the Athletico game though

  77. fatgingergooner says:

    13 away points this season!

    Won 3
    Drawn 4
    Lost loads

  78. chas says:

Anyone for Man U v West Bromwich?

  79. mickydidit89 says:

    Do it in pics Chas

  80. chas says:

Phew, at least the widget is up to date and correct.

  81. fatgingergooner says:

We’ve conceded 45 goals in the league this season. Erm, lets buy some more strikers! 😂

  82. chas says:

    Micky
    Good idea.
Might be a bitch to load but that could be a good thing. 😅

  83. Big Raddy says:

Midawy through the second half I was washing up from lunch.

Take out Bellerin, Ramsey, Kos and Ozil and we struggle.

Also we need a new GK sharpish. How about Butland? He is used to a porous defence.

  84. Rasp says:

I suggested Butland after we played Stoke Raddy. I think he looks a good solid keeper .. strong and commanding.

  85. GunnerN5 says:

After watching the Man U – WBA game I suddenly feel a lot better – Man U lose 0-1 and Man C are champions – perfect result.

  86. fatgingergooner says:

Wenger not the only one losing his touch. Mourinho spending tons of cash and his first XI churning out boring crap like that.

  87. fatgingergooner says:

Football is crazy. How often do you see teams at the bottom beating teams at the top towards the end of the season? Happens every year.

  88. Gööner In Exile says:

Well we certainly know how mid table teams feel with nothing to play for come last ten games apart from cups.

I was at my nieces birthday party so didn’t see much of the game, just Newcastle’s winner. Crimes against defending committed by Mustafi is getting longer. As I say only saw the winner. First bad header, then ignores the attacker who runs past him to win second ball, then stands still jogs back and throws his arms up at teammates when ball hits net.

  89. Aaron says:

Knew with the changes it would be tough!
But, the Arsenal Arsenal’d it up.
Was feeling down, then I remembered that manure just lost to the last place team, and the spuds got owned at Wembley.

To the semi’s it is then.

  90. RockyLives says:

    Well that was pants.

Once the commentator said Toon hadn’t won in 10 games I knew we were dead certs to get beaten.

We are a miracle cure for any team’s ailing form.

  91. LB says:

So you come back for that one?

    And we beat Moscow 🙂

  92. RockyLives says:

    Moscow was good(ish).

I’m glad we’ve got Atletico in the semi. Reckon we’ll do ’em over then the final will be a breeze.

  93. fatgingergooner says:

The Arsenal thing to do would be to beat Madrid then lose in the final.

  94. Lol FGG thats exactly right

  95. RockyLives says:

    🙂

  96. mickydidit89 says:

Doomers, the lot of you. We’re actually rather good once we arrive in finals

  97. chas says:

  98. mickydidit89 says:

In fact, if history tells us anything, it’s the opposite

We really do thrive on beating the good sides at semi, or earlier, stages then thrashing minnows in finals

  99. mickydidit89 says:

    6:58 🙂

  100. chas says:

    Arseblog bonus rating

Bonus rating: 10/10 for whatever product Thierry Henry is using in his beard. It’s glistening like a unicorn’s ringpiece.

  101. Eddie says:

well done Shitty, well deserved win, great champions.

  102. Rasp says:

Morning all, that game epitomised the problem for me, 10 years of neglecting defensive failings. It is our normal now, and expectations from the owner down to the players have been significantly lowered permanently.

  103. Rasp says:

But it’s going to reach 25°C this week and the sun will be making an appearance, so f**k the lot of them 🙂

  104. Eddie says:

VIEWERS were left baffled after Thierry Henry appeared to don a glittery beard in the Sky Sports studio.

    what a tool

  105. Eddie says:

comment of the day goes to Rocky:

“Once the commentator said Toon hadn’t won in 10 games I knew we were dead certs to get beaten.

We are a miracle cure for any team’s ailing form”

  106. chas says:

Newcastle’s form was very good going into the game with three wins on the bounce.
The commentator was talking about the past 10 games against Arsenal.

  107. chas says:

    NEW POST

  108. fred1266 says:

Apparently losing alexis has damage our away form these reporters are idiots
