Home Run to Continue?

Huddersfield Town F.C. was where Herbert Chapman won Div 1 twice before arriving at Arsenal. We owe them but the debt should be paid by allowing them a few minutes of parity before scoring a a hatful.

Unknown.jpeg

One of GN5 mates

A hatful is possible but unlikely because, as H’field showed against City, they are a very good, well-organised team. Scoring is a problem, as far as I can see, they have scored only 3 goals away from home all season and all three were in the same game! But, they have beaten Man Utd so this is unlikely to be a walkover.

Much is made of Wagner (the manager not the composer), and he does seem to be more than just Jurgen Klopp’s best friend.

Unknown-1.jpeg

Expect PTB and loads of possession, something we witness so often at The Emirates.

My Team (the one I expect to play, not the one I would pick)

Cech

Mustafi    Koscielny    Monreal

Bellerin    Ramsey   Xhaka   Kolasinac

Wilshire

Lacazette    Sanchez

If it were my choice we would play 4-3-3 with Welbeck starting and resting  Kolasinac. I don’t see the need for the extra defender when playing a side who are certain to defend in depth and play on the break.

What would be your chosen team?

We need these 3 points and to continue our wonderful home form (well results rather than form). With a hige game on the weekend we need to maitain confidence and drive.

So, welcome to the Emirates Huddersfield, it is excellent when such a small club proves money is not the only driver in football. I really hope you have the opportunity to play here next season and get beaten again 😀

    Another fine post BR

I’m finding it interesting how well managed the back of house at Arsenal is getting.

    Starting December:
Sven Mislintat – Head of Recruitment
    From Borussia Dortmund.

    and now starting in February:
Raul Sanllehi – Head of Football Relations
Former Barcelona Director of Football for 14yrs

Lots of other back of house changes. Looks like an orderly changing of the guard is going on.

  10. Red Arnie's avatar Red Arnie says:

yes, VP. I have been observing this as well. People in the know say these are major coups. 🙂

the key appointment should be replacement of Bonkers. I have the feeling he has not really worked for us. this has probably put the transition back by 2-3 years.

Thanks Raddy, I see tonight’s game as a potential banana skin. Huddersfield played well against City, and we often fail to capitalise when teams around us drop points …. so here’s hoping.

Fred, peaches is going this evening although will do well to arrive much before the start, so meeting up will be difficult.

    From Sky Sports

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has confirmed he has suffered a setback to his return to first-team football after undergoing further surgery to his injured ankle.

The 32-year old has not featured for Arsenal since October 2016 after he sustained an Achilles problem during their 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets.

Cazorla – who was initially left out of the Gunners’ 25-man Premier League squad earlier this season – has endured eight surgeries since the issues with his ankle began in 2013.

Santi Cazorla confirms he has had further surgery to his injured ankle which has kept him out of action for over a year

The Spaniard confirmed he has lost eight centimetres of his Achilles tendon as a result, and feared he may lose his foot after suffering an infection earlier this month.

A statement on his social media accounts read: “Some discomfort in the tendon that had dragged the last few days, I have had to undergo surgery. It is delaying the date of return to the playing fields, I maintain the illusion and motivation to enjoy my great passion, soccer.”

Former Arsenal striker and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas hailed Cazorla a “stunning talent” as he urged the midfielder to be patient in his comeback.

Nicholas told Premier League Daily: “A lot of guys get bad injuries. I had a broken leg in the early 80s and it was tough to come back from that then.

“This is a mental fight that you have to pursue and just wait to see.

“All I would say is ‘Santi, take care of yourself, get yourself right and see where we go from here’. Arsenal can wait all day.”

Thanks Raddy, I like your team. We have 9 games till new year. 2 tough ones in Utd and Pool, but both at home, and 7 that have potential banana skin written on them, including tonight’s. Do we think the team can manage 4 points from the 2 tough ones and 19 from the 7 we should win on paper?

  24. GunnerN5's avatar GunnerN5 says:

Yes Arnie very sad indeed, the phrase “It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy” applies 100% to Santi, what a bloody shame!!!

I doubt he will ever make a comeback so I hope the club has a testimonial for him so the fans can give him a proper send off.

Played some pretty football in that half. Just need one of those intricate plays to come off and we are kushti.

OK, good half. I think we played well without exerting ourselves. Good attacks that looked dangerous, but the oppo was also dangerous on the break.

Missed the goal. But that Bastenesque curling lob from the goaline, over the keeper and curling in, stooped on teh line was superb. wow Lac.

That apart, Kos gets a special mention for some good defending and heart wrenching and well timed runs backwards.

  74. Hi Fred, Drayton Park can’t cope with the crowds after games so it’s not open. It won’t be open at all on Saturday. There are plenty of other stations nearby, Arsenal on the Piccadilly Line is the nearest or Finsbury Park on the Piccadilly and Victoria lines is a 20 minute walk from the ground.

Hope you enjoyed the goal fest 😁
