Mbappe to Arsenal for….how much?

  1. Mmmm, sounds like the answer is about 100M.
Just been reading an article about Roberto Sanches. Remember him. Portuguese star of the Euros.
Last May, at the age of 18, he moved from being the star man at Benfica to Bayern for a fee that will eventually hit €80M, and has started two games since December. To top that, he’s been dropped from the full International team, and now plays for the Portuguese U-21’s.
“The problem is that you basically have to be the finished article at a club like that. He was learning so much playing at Benfica every week, it was the perfect environment for him to develop, but he was a still a rough diamond with flaws in his game. Portugal is well known for producing precocious young talents who get sold before they are the finished article. That’s what happened with him”, said someone.
Now, Arsenal. Whatever the figure is, we have a transfer budget the Club are unhappy to spend this summer, and I doubt if it’s a whole lot more than £100M.
My hope is that all key players remain, meaning that whoever we buy, and whenever that is, we’ll still hit the road running with a settled side in our first encounter against…..and Leicester.

    Unknown.jpeg
So, back to Mbappe. The “someone” that said the above, felt that at Bayern, a player needed to be the finished article. Arsenal are not quite at the Bayern level (cough!), so does that make Arsenal the ideal destination?
Would you risk the whole of our budget on him?
I would, but then I famously have a rather relaxed attitude towards being sensible, whilst at the same time having a somewhat gung-ho take on risk. Above all, I like excitement and think he’d bring skip loads of the stuff.
If, on the other hand, I was a remotely sensible sort and a little more mature, I’d probably say I’d prefer a player like Aubameyang. In other words, someone with a little more history, and having proved themselves in a tougher league.
What say you. All for one?

ps I know the bookies would probably have Lazazette at considerably better odds than Mbapp, but the principle of the post applies. All on one mega deal

Gooner B comment from previous post….

Ok Micky, so my personal belief is that the new formation has helped us enormously. The 3-4-2-1 system with double number 10’s sitting behind a striker seems to play to all our key players (and even back up players) strengths, so much so that I feel if the season was starting now with the squad we have that we would be title contenders, or at least much closer to it.

I actually think that most of the team is largely sorted now and if the current squad remains intact we may only need that 1 player, which has to be a striker that can deliver world class performances and stats in the EPL. We have needed it since RVP left. Our other strikers are all very decent back up players so we only need the 1 IMO.

There are potential issues with all of the strikers we may be looking at. I have a feeling we may get Lacazette. I would not sniff at that but out of all of them he is the one I have the greatest doubts about. He doesn’t seem to have the greatest athleticism in terms of size strength and pace (something RC, who will have watched him more) pointed out. However I do think Lacazette is attainable and we can only hope he can translate his league 1 stats to the EPL if he comes.

Mbappe and Aubemayeng conversely both look great athletes as well as top players. Cavani also looks like he is a great athlete but he would be a shorter term solution at his age, and I doubt PSG will sell him (unless they got an Aubemayeng).

Obviously any player has to agree to come to us and the problems with both Aubemayeng and Cavani is that they are at an age where they need to be at a club that has an excellent chance of winning things. When presented with a choice they will likely plump for a side that has shown ambition in recent seasons rather than one who talks about it but doesn’t back that talk up (sorry to say).

It may be that the penny has dropped at Arsenal now that our image is slipping as a big club, and this will start to translate into an inability to retain and recruit the right players that make our squad good enough to compete at the top end of things. It may be that we are serious now about doing what it takes to get back to the top end of things. However I don’t think players like Cavani and Aubemayeng will take that chance with us at the moment if other options are available to them.

Mbappe, because of his age, may be different. With time on his side he may look at us as that step up, to continue his development, but in a slightly less pressurised environment than some other clubs like Madrid. He may think if we turn that corner in the next 2 seasons then he is at the right club full stop. If we don’t then he has plenty of time to move on and be a success elsewhere.

As such I would go all in for him if we can. Forget £100m. I think we AW will need a £150m budget this TW with likely 3/4 (not 2/3rds) of it going on that 1 player. Mouthwatering I know but this is where we are right now because for various reasons we are likely not as attractive to certain top players as we were 2-3 seasons back (shortly after getting Sanchez) so we are more limited to the top strikers in terms of which ones would happily come to us. Getting Mbappe may also convince both Sanchez and Ozil to stay.

Post looks a bit weird. Probably needs a bit of tech work.

Still a fine piece of writing. Thank you Micky

  3. fred1266 says:

Theo can do a better job 🙂

  4. Emmanuel says:

I highly believe Mbape will do well in Arsenal colours then he can continue with Madrid thereafter Five years. Going straight to Madrid will only end up like the James Rodriguez. Aresnal has turned out to be a nursery for the big clubs like Barcelona, Man City etc

  5. mickydidit89 says:

    Emmanuel
    Arsenal as nursery?
Definitely have one or two nappy wearers and dummy chuckers 😀

  6. Big Raddy says:

I see L’pool are on the verge of paying €40m for a winger. Why didn’t they buy Theo?

  7. Big Raddy says:

Also, both Sanchez and Ozil were in the photos for the coming season which could be a good portent.

  8. chas mobile says:

Nice post, Mucky. I would blow whatever it takes out of that 100m on either of those two.

Wenger polishing Mbappe, Henry-style, is an enticing prospect. But has the old boy still got it in him? What do you reckon GoonerB?

PEA would be safer and possibly slightly cheaper. I’d still go the whole lot on him though.

None of that pussyfooting around.go the whole wedge.

Do we really want to end up with Mahrez and some developing CF from Kazakhstan?
    Not likely.

  9. chas mobile says:

No idea why my phone changed Mucky to Mucky.

  14. GoonerB says:

Chas, I agree with your 5.58. We really do need the bees knees of a striker now, no more pussyfooting around. In one swoop we can maybe get that player and also have the double whammy of persuading Ozil and Sanchez to hang around and get every-one in footy world sitting up and taking notice of us again. that has a positive knock on effect in convincing future targets that we are a club to join.

As to whether AW can still polish Mbappe into a top player, I would say probably yes. I still think he has that as one of his fortes. Where I think he has ailed is in areas that concern the team as a whole, like formations, tactics and player game management and the understanding of roles.

Unfortunately I think certain younger prospects in recent seasons have been a victim of these other factors, hindering their final development phase, often because the formation has been wrong and the whole team has looked chaotic with poor understanding of individual roles and how that combines in the team as a whole. It has also led to a lot of players being shunted into a multitude of positions in a season or regularly playing in a role that doesn’t really suit them.

If AW keeps the formation and can play Mbappe up front with Ozil and Sanchez behind him then I think AW can push Mbappe to the top level.

  15. Eddie says:

micky – I cannot believe that you wrote a full post about not-even-very plausible rumour 🙂 Well done, I am glad you did as I enjoyed reading it

Re Mmbappe – I am dead against this chappie. Wrong name, too young, not many goals scored, too expensive. Keep on looking Arsene, I am sure there are more Dale Allis and Harry Kanes out there

  16. Eddie says:

    is @6:07 a wanker or a footballer?

  17. chas mobile says:

    Shoehorning chaos

  18. mickydidit89 says:

The expression is Full Kit Wanker, Eddie 🙂

Also, believe me, I can, and probably will, pen far far more implausible shit before the summer is done

  19. Big Raddy says:

That’s good isn’t it? Shoehorning chaos.. Not sure I understand but I like it anyway

  20. mickydidit89 says:

Actually Eddie, if you look very carefully at 6:07, you can see there’s another wanker in the dressing room on the left, and he looks a right wanker with his shirt tucked in and the shorts right up Simon Cowell styley

  21. mickydidit89 says:

    Yes I like shoehorning chaos

Got any for the deadwood Chas?

  22. mickydidit89 says:

Big night for you Erik and your furred up mates

    ha ha ha Mbapps Cats
and for tomorrows Mbapp gossip bollocks we’ll have pics of Mbapps….?

  29. mickydidit89 says:

    Hey Chas
Maybe one day we could work together on some hot goss
I’ll pen the bollocks, you do your cut and paste montage stuff on the selected target arriving at the ems kinda crap or sharing a Big Mac with Arsene 🙂

  30. mickydidit89 says:

    Oh THAT is superb
He’s surely on his way to Arsenal. Slightly surprised he’s not tucking into a Kids Meal what with being about 12 an’ all

  31. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All,

Our big night tonight. Bonfires, sacrifice, mead, debauchery, the whole Viking malarkey.

    Hope it doesn’t rain 😦

  32. chas says:

    You missed it, BR.
    It was last night.

  33. Big Raddy says:

Not here. We Vikings work on pre-Gregorian time.

  34. Eddie says:

oh no, so from today days are going to get shorter 😦

it is 22nd in Poland too, probably in the whole of Europe. Same with the end of the WW2, it is 9th May, in UK the 8th

  35. Eddie says:

    get writing Didit

“Lacazette and Mbappe could hold key to Arsenal title success – Pires”

how much money has Robby got? shitloads I’d imagine

  36. rc78 says:

Mbappe will request to stay at Monaco. So he can be bought this year but loaned back to Monaco. He wants to go to the WC so he needs to play as much as possible. We can’t guarantee this unless Ozil or Sanchez leaves.

Apparently – Real will buy him for 100 mln, loan him back and will make him a key player in 2018/2019.By then Isco, Bale or Ronaldo will have left.

I would really encourage wenger to make an offer to Diego Costa as he is leaving Chelsea. He is a proven striker and imagine him and Sanchez harassing défenses

  37. mickydidit89 says:

    Wow RC
That is really spooky news about Costa because Chas saw him mucking about with Arsene on the swings and slides in Finsbury Park only this morning

  38. wally says:

Can’t see Mbappe coming for 100mm. That’s not wenger is it. And if he did, it would be an indication that he’s completely lost his mind. Neither of which would be good for us.
One for the future from Lithuania is more likely.

  39. GunnerN5 says:

Time to put up a few jokes – that nobody will laugh at.

  40. GunnerN5 says:

Some bloke started talking to me in the pub last night.
“My mate came off his motorbike today,” he said.
    “Oh really?” I asked.
“Yes,” he replied. “He has severe concussion, two broken arms and is completely blind in one eye.”
“Blimey,” I said. “No wonder he came off it then.”

  41. GunnerN5 says:

Two friends hired a pilot to fly them to Canada to hunt moose. They bagged six.
As they started loading the plane for the return trip home, the pilot tells them the plane can take only three moose.
The friends objected strongly, stating; “Last year we shot six moose and the pilot let us put them all on board and he had the same plane as
    yours.”
Reluctantly, the pilot gave in and all six were loaded.
Unfortunately, even on full power, the little plane couldn’t handle the load and went down a few minutes after take off.
Climbing out of the wreck, Peter asked Jack, “Any idea where we are?”
Jack replied, “I think we’re pretty close to where we crashed last year.”

  42. GunnerN5 says:

A magician worked on a cruise ship. The audience was different each week, so the magician did the same trick over and over again.
There was only one problem, the captain’s parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick.
Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show, “Look, it’s not the same hat!” or “Look, he’s hiding the flowers under the table!” or Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?”
The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything; after all, it was the captain’s parrot.
Then one stormy night the ship sank drowning almost all who were on board.
The magician luckily found himself on a piece of wood floating in the middle of the sea but as fate would have it, with the parrot sharing the piece of wood.
They stared at each other with hatred, but neither uttered a word. This went on for a day, then two days, then three.
Finally, on the 4th day, the parrot could not hold back any longer and said…”OK, I give up. Where did you hide the bloody ship?”

  43. GunnerN5 says:

    Afternoon all,

A man goes to a female dentist to have a tooth extracted.
She pulled out a large syringe to give an anesthesia shot.
“No way, no needles! I hate needles!” the man exclaimed.
So she started to hook up the nitrous oxide tank, and the man said, “I can’t do the gas thing.
Just the thought of having a mask on my face suffocates me!
The dentist then asked the patient if he had any objections to taking a pill.
“No,” he says, “I’m fine with pills.
“So the dentist gave him two little blue pills and he swallowed them.
“What are those?” he asked.” Viagra,” she replied.
“I’ll be damned,” said the patient, “I didn’t know Viagra worked as a pain killer.”
“It doesn’t,” said the dentist, “But it will give you something to hold on to when I pull your tooth out”

  44. mickydidit89 says:

    GN5
    I tittered if that helps.

My mate in Dortmund told me on the phone they’ve been banned from any publicity shots of Aubameyang.

He’s definitely for sale for £60M.

    I would.

  48. Big Raddy says:

We must have signed someone apart from the freebie.

Come on Arsene – get off the sun chair.

6.50 Sound quality crap but weirdly hypnotic – could be a Kraftwerk vid.

  60. Big Raddy says:

6.57 is so appalling it has a certain charm. So dreadful it must be Dutch or German

  61. Eddie says:

Raddy – @6:39 is Ian Beale from EastEnders. The character is a bit like you – married to most women in the series, run several businesses and if he wasn’t so patronizing he would be a very likable character 🙂

  62. mickydidit89 says:

    In
    For a bit

EDDDDIEEEEEEEEEE…..come out and play. The workers have gone to toil in the fields leaving lonely lazy me

  63. Eddie says:

I can’t, I have a nasty divorce to deal with. In the old days I would say I am looking for an assassin, these days one can go to jail for saying something like that on the social media. So no, I am not going to kill the bastard, although I would very much like to, I am going to set my solicitor on him hoping she can do an equally good job

  64. mickydidit89 says:

    Boooooring

Set your rotweiller of a solicitor on him. Hope she’s an angry leftie short haired woman with a stinking attitude going through menopause and at maximum man hating levels, then he’s fucked 🙂

  65. Eddie says:

you!!! you cannot talk about women like that!!!!!

and no, she has lovely long hair, is young…perhaps a leftie though 🙂

  66. mickydidit89 says:

Oh, ok but what I meant was simply that those sort of women are angrier and therefore suit your needs. Only thinking of you

Here’s a really odd question, given this is a football site. What is the name of the little yellow cartoon characters. They used to wear goggles and I think have a language of their own. Maybe 10 yrs ago

  67. Eddie says:

    Minions 🙂

  68. mickydidit89 says:

    YESSS thank you Eddie

  69. Big Raddy says:

8.57 In that case, you haven’t got a prayer

  70. mickydidit89 says:

    See Eddie

Erik knows and he’s a leftie.

Been through many a divorce. Always won if the solicitor rolled up in an Hermes dress, always lost if the solicitor rolled up in dungarees

  71. mickydidit89 says:

I’ve just had a really nasty thought. Is the transfer window even open yet?

  72. Eddie says:

I had to watch Minions movie several times. I absolutely hate them. I think they speak a Spanish dialect, fecking little bastards yet I had to pretend that I love them. Anything for the little princess

  73. Eddie says:

Hermes dress vs dungarees…I don’t get it.

bloody horrible, Hermes should stick to scarves (I happened to have a small collection of those 🙂 )

  74. Eddie says:

of course the TW is open, we bought what’s his name Kolasnic?

    MANCHESTER CITY
    Bernardo Silva – Monaco – £43m
    Ederson – Benfica – Undisclosed*
    MANCHESTER UNITED
    Victor Lindelof – Benfica – £30.7m

  75. mickydidit89 says:

Actually Eddie, I had no idea whether they made dresses or not, made the comment solely on the back of their scarves

Good for Grace Kelly, good for Kate Moss, good for Eddie, good for Mrs Didit

OK, brilliant, window is open. Let’s get the bloody striker, then not talk nonsense again until August

  76. Big Raddy says:

Transfer window open on July 1st.

MC signings have agreed deals but the actual signing cannot happen until July 1

  77. mickydidit89 says:

    Erik

Does it ever happen that “agreed signings” change their minds….cough…get a better offer?

In other words, nothing is done until it’s done

  78. GunnerN5 says:

Raddy, This is the answer I got from Google and this is from Sky sports..

When does the transfer window open?

The 2017 summer transfer window opens on Friday, June 9 for English clubs.

The 2017 summer transfer window in England and Scotland will shut at 11pm on Thursday, August 31 – two-and-a-half-weeks into the Premier League season.

  84. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All,

This mornings big news is that we have loaned Asano back to Stuttgart for another season.

    Why did we buy him?

  85. mickydidit89 says:

To loan him to Stuttgart after selling five shirts between the initial purchase and subsequent loan

    And…good morning all

  86. mickydidit89 says:

Apparently, we’re now after Mbappe, Lacazette AND Aubameyang
