Narch. Letsbe Avingham.

Thank Dennis for that – it’s over .Two weeks of unrelenting football withdrawal. Cold turkey is over and we get our fix this afternoon.

Last time we played the Canaries it was  a roller coaster game at THOF in May; we went one up after 65 seconds, 2-1 down after 30 minutes, 3-2 up and finally allowed Norwich to equalise in the 85th minute. Some bloke scored two for us. Narch played very well but times have changed for the East Anglians, they sit just one point above the dismal QPR having a minus 12 goal difference and only 3 points from 7 games. They have yet to win at home.

History shows we have not lost at Carrow Rd since 1984, however 7 of the last 12 games have been draws.

Norwich: Let us start with their manager. People say (and this includes many Arsenal people) that Chris Hughton is a decent bloke. ……. . Decent Bloke? Which decent bloke plays 300 times for the blue-bellied sheep biters? The man is devil-spawn and guaranteed to take this lovely family club down with the Rangers.  Hughton is so average that Alan Pardew took his job! Nothing more needs saying. Don’t believe me? Check out his record since leaving Newcastle ….. Played 12  won none. And he has a carrot shaped head.

What of his team of flatlanders? Are they a bunch of decent pro’s doing the best for their families and playing honest, open football? 5 goals scored in 7 games tells a story. With just two yellow cards all season it must be said that Norwich are not a team who intimidate their opponents.

Ugly as a Dropped Pie

Who plays for the lovely historic town of Norwich? Well, there is a smattering of ex-miscreants – Bassong & Kane, England’s 3rd choice Mr Ruddy, the hideous but dangerous Grant Holt (sounds like a train station …. two returns to Grant Holt, please). Steve Morison is Holt’s forward partner, born in Enfield plays for Wales and  has a boy named Fenton . The defender Russell Martin was born in Brighton and represents Scotland.  Alan Smith says Wes Hoolahan is a player to watch – if he plays he is a second striker.

Arsenal: We are unbeaten away, scoring freely and defending well (apart from a few set play blips). 7th doesn’t reflect how well we are playing  or how the new boys are adapting to life in the PL.

We have 5 ever present players in the league. Can you guess who they are (without checking)?

The Internationals cost us 2 players, both Theo and Kos are out. Fabianski is out for a few more months. The defence picks itself.

My Team:

Once again, we have a strong bench though Coquelin is out.

Gervinho will be important this afternoon as he seeks to continue his scoring run; his pace and trickery will be of great concern to the Norwich defence. Let us hope he has not been too traumatised by the events in Senegal. I include Ramsey but if Diaby is available he would be the first choice.

Podolski has been a revelation in his attitude to hard work; he has a Mercedes Diesel engine. His ability to drop back and bolster the the left side of defence has allowed us to be very strong in midfield and it is here that we will win the game. I expect Norwich to try and flood the midfield – perhaps not zaparkowac autobus – but nonetheless defend deep. They are at home and surely have to try to entertain and take 3 points.

Further to my shock revelation that there is no way Jack Wilshere will play even a minute today, there is rumour he is in the squad. To play him would be a mistake. AW says he is only 80%, so what is the point?

Whilst you are munching through your cornflakes, let me tell you about the chap below because we like a British hero and fellow certainly fits the bill.

Sir Samuel Baker (great grandfather to Arsenal’s Joe). What this chap did in his lifetime is astonishing. He discovered  Uganda and named Lake Albert, searched for the source of the Nile, was a big game hunter, a fellow of every society known to man, explored on all the continents, was a friend of Edward v11, became Pasha of Egypt, and was a fervent anti-slavery campaigner. He would surely have been a Gooner but died too early.  All this and a fine Beardsman.

An important 3 points today (Yes – I know – they all are). We have to punish teams at the opposite end of the table , we didn’t last season and almost paid the price. There can be little question that Arsenal are the better team, there is only one Norwich player who would get in our squad, let alone our first team (Ruddy). The bookies are expecting us to win at Carrow Rd (odds 4/7)  and as they say, you never see a poor bookie.

I would like to see a Chelsea win today during which there will be a mass punch up between JT and Monkey Boy and then all 22 on the pitch.

The FA will then dock both teams 3 points resulting in Spurs losing 6 points in one game – a new record and something for them to release a DVD about.

  2. Morning Raddy – sorry I was late sir, Rasp and I were chatting about Jason Roberts and when I got to the post it was too late. Won’t happen again …………..

  3. Gooner In Exile says:

Ahhh a Raddy pre match, great…..well a couple of disagreements from me today:

    1) Chris Hughton is a decent bloke and very knowledgable, but then I would say that I knew him back in the day and had a few talks with him about football (I used to knock about with his son)….and often went to his house. It was modest. He is modest, he finished his apprenticeship (I think in lift engineering) before taking up the offer of a pro contract at Spuds. He is very unspudlike compared to some of the miscreants I faced when playing in charity matches against the likes of Falcao, Hazard et al. Chris could meet play he has no knees to speak of due to all the painkilling injections he played with at the direction of Spurs doctors.

    2) he did do ok at Birmingham (after Toon and before Carrot Crunching) missed out on promotion with a defeat to Blackpool in the play offs last season.

I was actually at Spurs vs Southampton and in the managers bar when Glen Hoddle and George Graham had a very civil chat despite everyone knowing that in a few days GG would be out on his ear and Glenda would be put in his place.

  4. Gooner In Exile says:

GG was class personified whereas Glenda was swanning around like he owned the place, he also called my mate out on the size of his gut, which did make me laugh!

  5. Great pre-match Raddy and Sir Samuel Baker sounds like an amazing guy!!!

Jack has travelled with the squad and will be champing at the bit. Much better to give him 10 minutes away from home to have a run about, the away supporters will be ecstatic and not at all critical of anything he does ……….. they will cheer his every touch and then on Wednesday night he can play some more against Shalke and I can cheer his every touch.

    Oooooh isn’t football grand 😆

  6. Norfolk Gooner says:

City of Norwich Big Raddy, Norwich is a city not a town.

  7. TotalArsenal says:

    Lovely Pre-Match Raddinksy 🙂

I was offered a ticket this morning and cannot wait to see the boys is red and white!! 🙂

Thank you for the insight into the Norwich team. The one to watch, in a negative sense, is the Norwich bruiser Bradley Johnson. He injured Sagna last season and leaves his foot in a lot.

Enjoy the game – COYRRG! 🙂

  8. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

    Cracking pre-match Raddy..
“mercedes diesel engine” just purring along…So so true..

Thanks for the recent stats between us and the canaries..I was wondering why our odds were so long. $1.57 only just backed into $1.47. And your stats show why, although im not worried one iota. This Arsenal team is a different machine, and if we take the lead we wont be choking.. I can only see a victory for the good guys..

To all you lucky folk going to the game..Cheer loud and do us proud as always..COYRRG!!!!!!!!

oh and monkey boy might be gone AWOL up a tree…Dont think hes playing

  9. chas says:

    Thanks for the appetite-whetter, BR.
I only got 4 of the 5 ever presents. 😦

  10. Gooner In Exile says:

Lucky you TA……I assume its in the Norwich end, if so good luck sitting on your hands 😀

  11. Gooner In Exile says:

This isn’t the same Chelsea we played…where is the press?

  12. Gooner In Exile says:

My guess would be Jenkinson, Arteta, Santi, Podolski, Gervinho?

    That doesn’t seem right.

  13. MickyDidIt89 says:

Thank you Raddy, sets me up perfectly.
Shame Reaches and Rasp had better things to do than look after their flock. Like talking about Jason Roberts 🙂
    Spuds 0-1 ROLF

  14. Chelsea are a disgrace, they have no morals as a football club but there is definitely more satisfaction in spuds losing atm 🙂

Thanks Raddy, i want points today, dont care about how we get them just want them. It wont be easy, its like a cup final for Norwich but if we stand firm we should win.

I was a bit harsh on Totnumb earlier with my 5-0 defeat. This has got 3-0 or 4-1 written all over it so i apologise to all Totnumb fans for underestimating them.

  16. RockyLives says:

    Great prematch as ever BR

The ever present five? I would say Jenks, Gibbs, Arteta, Santi and Pod.

    Spuds already losing 🙂
I think we’ll see what their “title challenge” is made of today: answer, not very much.

  17. evonne says:

    ummmhhh…I enjoyed a Raddy 🙂

I like Chris, decent manager with plenty of time to improve.
Discovered Uganda 🙂 were there no people there before sir Baker? We in the West like to take credit almost as much as the Chinese 🙂

  18. RockyLives says:

The only singing at WHL all game has been from the Chav fans.

    Horrible ground. Rubbish fans.

  19. Rhyle says:

Great read Raddy…thank the maker that we’re back to normality.

Looking forward to watching the match today…thinking a nice, smooth 2-0er will do me! Not that I’d turn down a storming 4-0er, though…

Loved the science you dropped on Samuel Baker – Arsenal Arsenal…where you can have an opinion and get an education!

  20. RockyLives says:

There were people in Uganda before the Top Beardsman found them, but they didn’t know where they were until he told them 🙂

  21. evonne says:

I’d rather Spurs than the European Champions win today, or anyday

A neighbour, horrible little woman and a spurs supporter loves arguing with me and saying nasty things about Arsenal.
I got that b**ch today, Spurs playing Chelsea today and she is doinng some gardening!!! Would any of you do some gardening when Arsenal played Chavs? Oooohh 🙂 I told her 🙂

  22. Gooner In Exile says:

If its on TV it has to be really important to keep me away Evonne, let alone a big game against the likes of Chavski.

But I cannot support the Spuds ever, even today, Chelsea cannot continue to perform like this….one injury to Mata or Hazard or Ramires or Oscar and they struggle to play like they have started. Not too impressed with Chavs defending without Terry.

  23. evonne says:

Exactly GiE, goes to prove what useless lot spurs fans really are.

I was on the tube earlier on today and watched Spurs fans going to the game – scraffy lot. And then I remembered when you and I were going to a game last year and 2 young lads were going there too. They both had manicured painted pink and red nails – now that is class 🙂

  24. Gooner In Exile says:

Haha I’m not sure two lads with painted nails is our traditional support 😀

  25. Big Raddy says:

Never having met Mr Hughton Etc etc. But 8 years on the Darkside is no advert for the man. if you tell me he is OK……

    Dull game so far

  26. Gooner In Exile says:

What was I saying about Chavs defending without Terry?

  27. Rasp says:

Thanks for the PM Raddy, sorry folks I’m out of circulation for a while .. had 2 weddings and a funeral in the last 2 weeks 😦

Bloody spuds have just equalised. Driving to Stroud now, will catch up later tomorrow.

  28. Gooner In Exile says:

Raddy true…..I realise I am bias….the only spud I like, actually scrap that I quite liked Ossie too but only because he disproved the theory that heavy smokers can’t play football at the top level. The man was a walking chimney.

  29. evonne says:

GiE – do you remember them? I was taken aback- en going to a football game with varnished nails?? But you didn’t bat an eyelid, fair play to you

    Boring game?

  30. evonne says:

i am happy 🙂 good man Defoe

  31. Gooner In Exile says:

Hopefully the Arse will cheer you up Rasp.

Evonne nothing surprises me with the yoof of today 😀

  32. evonne says:

Just as well Old Boy, the bump will test you to the limit 🙂

  33. MickyDidIt89 says:

“The game is about Glory”…oh jees. Everything about Spurs actually makes me feel sick.

  34. MickyDidIt89 says:

  35. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Its all about Glory…ROLF

  36. oz gunner says:

well done BR, thank goodness the break is over with! Thank you for the great pre-match as always. 2-0 to the good guys but Holt must be keeped under look and key!

  37. Big Raddy says:

Exciting second half. Gallas showing his age.

  38. MickyDidIt89 says:

Now is an excellent time to pop outside and have a chat with your neighbour 🙂
Go on, you know how much sense it makes

  39. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Loved the explorer

  40. evonne says:

    Micky – shall I ?

  41. glic says:

    Thanks for the quality Raddy
Too early in the season to want the Tinytestis to win, when ever I`ve wanted them to win in the past ( usually late in the season against Mansucum ) they have never obliged, so f**k them. I hate them so much, I cry if they win !.
I was in Tesco`s earlier and some chap said, “nice Jacket” ( I get this all the time, even the Manuscum over the road say`s it`s a nice jacket ! ), he was then subjected to half an hour of everything Arsenal whilst the missus done the shopping. I think he regretted it after two minutes, but I wasn`t going to let him go and after fifteen minutes of being held in the corner he was trying to get away with a petty excuse that his mum was having a stroke in the veg isle, total bollix, so I stuck him in one of the upright freezers and shouted at him through the glass, he answered me by writing on the condensated glass !. I then saw my missus had finished shopping, so I left him to chill out and made my way through the paramedics to the tills. It`s great wearing the colours and meeting fellow gooners.

  42. MickyDidIt89 says:

We can see you sneaking out

  43. evonne says:

ok, i am going to see that b**ch, laters

  44. At least we didn’t concede in open play 😀

  45. classy Evonne 😀

  46. MickyDidIt89 says:

    gLIC 🙂

  47. Big Raddy says:

That really was a game of 2 halves. Shame Torres has lost the scoring ability, the Chavs should have scored 7

  48. glic says:

Is there a Tesco`s near you, I could meet you ! hahaha

  49. MickyDidIt89 says:

Right, back outside to limber up for what really matters.

  50. MickyDidIt89 says:

What, to teach me how you do it?

  51. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Later all

  52. glic says:

Yes, later all, I`m off to meet Micky in the chiller isle, just hope he remembers to bring his thermals !.

  53. RockyLives says:

Well, that was a vintage Spud performance:

A heavy defeat in front of a mostly silent home crowd.

Some moments of flattering to deceive.

    Then a spineless collapse.

    Love it 😀

The Chavs have started well but they’ll slow down. The tortoise and hare and all that.

Or should that be the budgie and the hare?

Anyway… next up – Orcs to win at Old Toilet!

It’ll be a funny feeling rooting for the Orcs, but hey ho.

  54. RockyLives says:

    GLiC 🙂

  55. No point cheering on the Orcs Rocky Pulis has already sent his team out with instructions to roll over

  56. Now that is a celebration of a talent ………. on the 10th anniversary of scoring his wonder goal against us, Wayne Rooney scores an own goal against Stoke ROLF ROLF ROLF 🙂

  57. Big Raddy says:

Rooney’s first PL goal of the season 🙂

  58. Citeh down to 10 men ……..

  59. RockyLives says:

Utd have equalized – Rooney header from a perfect BSR cross.

They would be really struggling without BSR this year.

Interesting that with Rooney on, BSR is basically playing left wing.

Annoying thing is that the Orcs should have had a couple more before the equalizer – but for some crap finishing.

  60. And now he scores……..why why why couldn’t we sell him to the continent 😦

  61. RockyLives says:

    Not watching any more 😦

  62. evonne says:

GiE – because the little boys inside him were from Manchester

  63. Big Raddy says:

Sickening. We should have beaten the Orcs, they are very ordinary

  64. RockyLives says:

We still could have refused to sell him to them.
Arsene has single-handedly saved ManUre’s season. They’re not very good, but BSR raises them a level.

  65. RockyLives says:

Ordinary, but they still could have had three against ManUre in the first half alone.

  66. evonne says:

Rocky – I know. WHY did Wenger do that? Because SAF honoured him with a phone call???

Early days though, he’ll be out soon

  67. I’m not horse racing fan but its hard not to watch a horse like Frankel, unbelievable horse, made my hair stand on end when the Tom Queally let him go.

  68. Where’s gm? He’s going nuts on twitter 😆

  69. Bollocks 4th place after today won’t happen but City are losing 😀

  70. evonne says:

ooohhh, what a Long goal 🙂

  71. evonne says:

GiE – we could be 3rd after today with 15 points

  72. evonne says:

not if west brom win, donought

  73. Stuart MacFarlane ‏@Stuart_PhotoAFC

    Jack Wilshere’s kit is ready. #afc #COYG

  74. Big Raddy says:

Peaches. Why don’t you ask GM via twitter?

    Lots of goals today.

  75. Tiny shinpads!

Ohhhh a goal for City. 4th place back on

  76. I say Mr Raddy, 11/11 well done to you 🙂 ‏@Arsenal

Arsenal team to play Norwich: Mannone, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos, Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Podolski, Gervinho, Giroud

    Never in doubt 😆

  77. GiE – battling against West Brom for a place in the top four …… weird 😆

  78. We’re down to 9th at the moment with West Ham and Fulham winning!

  79. Citeh have scored

  80. Oh well City are winning now which makes 4th easier, but now i’m a bit pissed off City have won with 10men

  81. The BBC site is rubbish, takes ages to update ………… we just need to win and it’ll be fine 🙂

  82. Big Raddy says:

Very good win for MC. WBA are strong this season.

  83. glic says:

I must agree peaches, the BBC site is crap . I went on there and it said Full Time on the fixtures, I then pressed refresh and it said Latest Scores ! . It is slower than a Lampard exiting Greggs the bakers !.
If I see the BBC controller in Tesco`s , I`ll be having words !.

  84. Big Raddy says:

Bare bones in attack on the bench. Where is Chamakh? He must be a better bet than Gnabry

  85. Big Raddy says:

That is my first 11/11 of the season. Hope it augurs well.

  86. oz gunner says:

what on Earth were WBA doing sending that many forward so late in the game. They should have sat back for the last few minutes and grabbed the point. In saying that WBA had a few great chances late. Damn Chelsea it looks like Drogba v.2 is developing nicely in the WBA lineup.

  87. MickyDidIt89 says:

Top marks Raddy. Very happy to see Giroud start again.

  88. glic says:

As we know Arsene always reads Raddy`s team selection !. We know who to blame if it goes tits up !. hahaha

  89. Big Raddy says:

    The buck stops there …..

  90. glic says:

Of course, Raddy gets the praise if we dont get anything less than a win !

  91. Gooner In Exile says:

Seriously though only Spuds lost today of top 4 contenders….we need 3 points I’ll take them any old way but have a preference for a 5+ goal stroll in the park.

  92. glic says:

Right, I`m off to prep my behind the sofa area, so it`s food, drink and two mirrors !.

  93. Hello gooner friends, that nice Mr TA was going to write our match report but once he was offered a ticket to the game he was gone and now I’m left asking for a volunteer please…….. any offers 😉

  94. Gooner In Exile says:

Raddy very strange especially as he played in that scratch XI vs Chelsea on Monday, and no Walcott either.

I guess Arsene is gambling that he can stick Pod or Gerv up front if anything happens to Oli, but he also has cover on flanks on the bench.

  95. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

  96. kelsey says:

    Hello everyone.

Had to suddenly take my daughter to the hospital again but spoke to dandan earlier.he and mrs.dandan are well rested.

    Well done Raddy.

Well the table looks a lot different than it did two hours ago, so it’s a must win isn’t it ?

  97. Big Raddy says:

GIE. I am not happy about it. Perhaps there is a deal in place which precludes Chamakh playing in the PL.

  98. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Lets go Gunners

  99. kelsey says:

we need gervinho on the left and podolski more central. i can see arshavin coming on later on in the game.

  100. Big Raddy says:

    Who is the idiot co-commentator?

  101. Big Raddy says:

We need Gervinho to get in the game

  102. Big Raddy says:

    Holt looked well offside

  103. kelsey says:

on vito, what a clanger. not one nil down again 🙂

  104. kelsey says:

he needs some valium and quickly

  105. evonne says:

    FFS, what’s going on???!!!

  106. kelsey says:

we are playing shite, other explanation.

  107. evonne says:

Shite Kelsey? that’s putting it mildly
Let’s hope it is a gae of 2 halves

  108. Gooner In Exile says:

    Well that was pretty ugly!

  109. Big Raddy says:

Nothing at all happening for us. Gervinho running down blind alleys, Santi’s radar is off. Giroud getting no service, Mannone shell-shocked, Podolski absent and our crossing has been dreadful

Time for AW to earn his corn because Norwich are tidy and hard working but nothing more.

We have to find inspiration from somewhere

  110. dandan says:

BR its Chris Waddle long haired spud

  111. Big Raddy says:

DD. That would explain his total lack of understanding

  112. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Crikey, what to suggest?
    Errrr…3-5-2 🙂

  113. Hi dandan – missed your smiling face 🙂 Hope you had a great trip and the lovely Mrs Dandan had a good rest.

  114. Gooner In Exile says:

We are missing Gibbs down the left, or rather Santos is not keeping shape at all, how many times has Arteta been left back….too many! Which then means he is not where he normally is mopping up the loose balls in the middle.

And there is not enough running with the ball through the lines with pace. Or even playing between the lines.

We should have enough gumption between Pod, Gerv, Santi, Giroud and Ramsey to break their lines without our full backs joining in. At least if Jenkinson goes up he has the speed to get back.

Time for Mr Wengers once a season hair dryer treatment.

  115. The scary thing is that I don’t think Santos can last 90 mins and so what does AW do then?????

  116. I’m with you GiE on Gibbs being a big miss 😦

  117. kelsey says:

and the worse thing is that we are making norwich look good.
Just looked at the goal again, it really caught vito going the wrong way and then to follow up to gather the ball on the bye line and then change his mind was truly amateurish.

I see the OX and Arshavin both coming on.

  118. GiE – but they are used to the full-backs joining in. The shape was non-existent in the first half.

  119. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Good point about Santos GiE.
And you are right about the hair dryer. That’s where GM could be…

  120. Gooner In Exile says:

To be fair Chris Hughtons Newcastle did a similar job on us at Emirates a few seasons back.

Before anyone asks yes goal was Mannones fault he needs to push that away from goal (but Santos played Holt onside too).

Not good at all, really not good.

Ox on for Gerv, Jack on for Rambo.

  121. kelsey – play with 13? That would be an adventure 🙂

  122. kelsey says:

very good point GIE, santos is what i would call an old fashioned left half .he isn’t defensive and actually i don’t know what he is 😉 (except brazilian)
Can’t see us scoring two , without conceding at the moment

  123. I must have been a goalie in another life as I told Rasp exactly that about Mannone’s push 🙂

……..or I’ve spent too much time talking to you GiE

  124. Big Raddy says:

69% possession. No shots on target. Come on boys, at least give Ruddy some work to do

  125. dandan says:

Its all right for you lot. I have a constant cough am freezing cold, on top of which I have had a flue jab this morning. A mug of soup, the heating is turned right up, am wearing a thick home knitted Arran sweater, feel like death and dont nee d that ruddy Kelsey to tell me what my own eyes are telling me. Evonne have one polish lady to keep one side of my bed warm are there any othes who could toast the other side you know of.

  126. We need Arteta back in the middle doing what he does best but I’m not sure we can achieve that with Santos???? Love the Brazilian but he’s a bit of a liability when he starts 😦

  127. kelsey says:

ruddy is not in goal is he, oh yes he is.

  128. Gooner In Exile says:

Peaches, Santos’s joining in is different to Gibbs, he moves inside which allows the wide man to pass him on and then be free for the outlet, Gibbs keeps the wide midfielder honest by keeping chalk on his boots until the last possible moment.

  129. Son Of Steptoe says:

It was a Mannone error, but it was also the midfield not even making a token effort to close down the attack.

The whole team seem to be playing tippy tappy slow motion backwards and sideways across the pitch.

That said, Jenks just ran from their half back into our half and passed all the way back to the keeper. Possession is all very well when we are one up – but one down?

We can only get better —– right?

  130. kelsey says:

dandan that’s what happens when you have an outside cabin crossing the pond 😉

  131. Big Raddy says:

    Why don’t they shoot???

  132. kelsey says:

Have we greally got squad depth ?

  133. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

We seem stale at the minute..Time for some changes me thinks..We lack speed and ox should be unleashed for the swerve..

  134. Big Raddy says:

The Swerve is getting anywhere this evening. Time for the Ox

  135. MickyDidIt89 says:

    God move taking Pod off.
Come on now Ox, take them on and shoot

  136. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

    Snapski 🙂

  137. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

    C’mon boys, dig deep.

  138. Big Raddy says:

Our forwards have been poor so far this evening

  139. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

    Red sir!!

  140. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

    Last man and all that

  141. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

Ok Arsh dont let me down, make some magic happen PLEEEEEASE

  142. Adrian says:

The whole team is playing piss poor, and here we have another injury again.

  143. Big Raddy says:

Not enjoying this at all ….

  144. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

starting to worry a little 😦

  145. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

why put Jack on the bench if hes not 100% fit or ready to be used in 3 substitutions..makes no sense..

  146. Adrian says:

Why the hell can so many teams before us beat norwich with huge scorelines while we made them look like a team competing for the EPL?

  147. Red Arse says:

  148. Big Raddy says:

Adrian was right. We were piss poor and wouldn’t have scored if we had played until Xmas.

    Very very disappointed

  149. kelsey says:

    Match report:

We didn’t turn up as a team, never looked like an imposing unit and gave away a sloppy goal. Amen.

  150. MickyDidIt89 says:

That was a bloody awful performance

  151. LB says:

Somebody stand me against a wall and shoot me.

  152. RockyLives says:

    Piss poor performance.

I thought the 3-3 at home to Norwich last season was bad, but at least we looked like scoring goals in that game.

    Back tomorrow.

  153. MickyDidIt89 says:

Very good report indeed, and probably the politest that is likely to be submitted.

  154. Red Arse says:

That was like watching a replay of the Arsenal of old.

Slow — did I say slow? — ineffective — and that bloody, bloody sideways/backwards passing, with a non existent forward line.

  155. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

Off to find that familiar rock of mine and go hide under it for a while.. No excuses, no international games fatigue nonsense no psychological babble about letting big leads slip affecting some…

We just didnt bring it today, a stale performance with no heart.

Im totally cut when we dont want it more

  156. Red Arse says:

You are right Prince. There was no excuse for that.

Worst of all, it was embarrassing!

  157. kelsey says:

LG will get over 2000 comments, I daren’t look. 🙂

Every time i see giroud have a half chance i get a flashback of RVP.
Apparently Podolski was taken off because he was carrying a SLIGHT ankle injury.

  158. Gooner In Exile says:

Adrian, Norwich were always going to be a different proposition to the one faced by others this season, Hughton has had two weeks to work with most of his players to a game plan for today’s match.

Kelsey your match report earlier is spot on, if the players can’t be arsed to turn up then why should we bother writing it up?

But on the squad it is deep, it’s just the current I jury list already has us at breaking point…Gibbs, Koscielney, Rosicky, Diaby, Sagna, Szczesny, Fabianski. And Jack and Frimpong only just returning. That’s 9 players and we still had an okay ish bench and then Ox went and got injured!

  159. Gooner In Exile says:

    Oh and Walcott

  160. Gooner In Exile says:

LB I’m first, I have in laws who will undoubtedly be eager to see me.

  161. kelsey says:

and now Podolski. bring back Chamakh 🙂

  162. Gooner In Exile says:

Kelsey worse than that Podolski has been carrying an ankle injury for a few weeks.

There was probably only one player on the pitch I couldn’t fault today, and that was Jenkinson.

  163. Prince-Purrfect-Poldi says:

Hey Redders, it seems every time we have an opportunity to gain points on our rivals we stutter and let a points gap in the title race get wider. Why cant we be ruthless against bottom teams and consistently?

Did that Germany game and the Spain slip up really affect our players? Borrussia Dortmund also lost, maybe Barca drop points too?… who am i kidding, no excuses and i hope Arsene doesnt make any either! Year in, year out we always allow for performances like these and these are the ones that dent our title asspirations..

  164. Adrian says:

Enough about the interlull affecting our performance. It clearly didn’t affect the likes of Man utd, Chelsea or Spurs. Most of the players played with very little desire to win today. Passing was slow and ineffective with no penetration at all in the final third and our forwards looked lost throughout the game. Manonne did himself no favours with the goal conceded, Santos will never break into the first team as long as Gibbs is fit if he continues to put in performances like today, and Ramsey seemed to revert back to the Ramsey of last season – indecisive at times. Giroud had no service whatsoever and probably had the least touches throughout the game. I think its time Wenger gave the players the hair dryer treatment and make sure a performance like this will never be repeated again.

To make things worse the ox has picked up an injury, suddenly our injury list looks longer than ever. The return of Wilshere, Sagna, Rosicky, Sczesny and Walcott couldn’t come any sooner.

  165. MickyDidIt89 says:

By far the most worrying aspect was the collective attitude rather than individual performances (or the lack of), and that’s Arsene’s job.

  166. jnyc says:

    I feel sick

  167. kgooner says:

ddnt catch the game. Am trying to find highlights online now.
From the stream on negative comments (which is rare here) i conjure the game wasn’t any pretty.
    As for the scoreline, WTF?

  168. Adrian says:

And my word, the verminator had a really terrible game as well, we were lucky Norwich didn’t capitalize on his 2 or 3 errors today.

  169. MickyDidIt89 says:

    I strongly recommend X Factors
    Yip, that bad 😦

kgooner, dont bother. If you want to watch a horror film i can think of a lot better than that.

That was extreme shit, and there is no defending it.

  171. Adrian says:

The only thing more depressing than the game is the comments being posted on Le Grove. Thing is, I can’t figure if the depressing part about the comments is that if there is some sort of truth behind the comments e.g whether of some of the players such as Mannone/Ramsey/Giroud/Gervinho should even be on our bench or that most of the comments are utter crap.

  172. evonne says:

DidIt and your bloody recommendations!! I have to face that Tottenham b**ch now, thanks mate

  173. evonne says:

why Gnarby? we are losing and the lad never played in PL before, WTH??

  174. KGoooner to truly appreciate the negative comments you have to watch it…..for one of the few times MotD will actually show a true reflection of the game when they don’t show any Arsenal chances.

  175. Its the latter Adrian, Mannone is 3rd choice, get used to it, find me a beter 3rd choice at any of the other PL clubs (or 2nd choice for that matter). Ramsey is always the whipping boy, but its not like he was the only poor performance on the pitch, Santi was non existent and Arteta was uncharacteristically awol in the first half (bet they won’t get pelters over there), Gervinho and Giroud were poor today, as for Giroud its very hard for a striker to have a good game when he doesn’t see the ball, and he really wasn’t given a lot of it.

  176. Just to say Adrian the “get used to it” was aimed at people that moan about players “not fit to wear the shirt” or other garbage of that kind, because they have their favourites and their whipping boys and won’t criticise the favourites.

Stuff Legrove, some of them idiots would moan if we just beat Barcelona 10-0.

We will bounce back from this, we have to, because that is simply not acceptable for a Club like Arsenal.

Is it the end of our title dream? Not for me. Long way to go and i for one wont give up, but based on today i realise its probably just fantasy.

  178. Thought he did well though Evonne, set up our best chance which the Swerve took an eternity to hit.

  179. Haha TMHT, we are only 8 games in, you can’t throw the fantasy away until around Christmas.

  180. evonne says:

    2 positives from this game:

1 the blog is going to be buzzing
2 we are going to do a Chelsea – feck the League, let the Mancs fight for it, we just have to win the CL, simples

GiE – he did, but was there nobody else?

Christmas GiE?, i wont give up until its mathmiaticly impossible. Christmas it is then. hahaha

  182. glic says:

You know what pisses me off ?. Listening to Talksport this morning, I could have had odds of 5 to 1 for a Norwich home win !…….5 to 1 in a two horse race, in which the away horse has been shot !. hahaha

  183. Adrian says:

Something has to be done about Vermaelen though, his form has completely dropped all of a sudden. If we were playing against a top 4 team we’d be punished for his mistakes. I hope the Arsenal that turns up for the Schalke game is a complete opposite of the one that turned up today.

Evonne, thats exactly what i thought at the final whistle. Stuff it, we will win the Champions League instead

  185. Red Arse says:

Prince hit the nail on the head.

It is disappointing to lose to a team like Chelsea, (and I think that should have been a draw), and I don’t often get too upset about things, but losing to teams like Norwich cuts me to the quick.
It happens far too often. It is unacceptable!

Norwich played well and deserved to win today, so I am not knocking them. But we lose so often to ‘bottom of the table’ teams — and make them look good while they do it, that it defies explanation.

Bet anything you like Norwich are relegated this season – that puts my feelings about this inept loss into perspective!

  186. evonne says:

Terry – defo! With a team like that, I can’t see any problems

  187. glic says:

I`m glad sometimes that I dont have the facility to watch these games live, by all accounts , it seems I missed a bad performance. Would I be correct in saying that ? hahaha

  188. JM says:

The truth is cruel & it hurts. 10 pts behind the league leaders.

Our team’s belief in their abilities disappeared during this match, and we deserved to be beaten by Norwich.

Title contenders? Not by this performance. (The current 3 “real” title contenders all won by coming from behind this weekend):

Chelsea 1-2 down to Spurs, won 4-2 away (Mata was inspirational)
Man Utd 0-1 down to Stoke, won 4-2 at home (Rooney & team redeemed themselves after their last league loss)
Man City 0-1 down to WBA, won 2-1 away (with their 2 goals in the last 10 mins and them being 10-men down from 23rd min)

The 3 teams current sit at the Top 3 and just have something extra in their reserves:
Chelsea, RDM & RA are showing their intent in capturing the EPL crown. (since they won the CL & FA Cup last season … those 2 are bonuses for them this season)
Man Utd & SAF’s ego want badly to reclaim the EPL crown after losing narrowly last season by goal difference.
Man City & RM wish to retain their EPL crown to prove that last season was no fluke.

CL and FC Schalke visits next; they are the toughest opponents in our group & they just beaten Dortmund away in their league (Howedes, Papadopoulos, Farfan, Holtby, Huntelaar, Draxler, Affelay & company would be a handful). Good luck to the team & hope our winning form returns in time.

  189. Blimey, that was horrible. I’d be clutching at straws if I said we were unlucky not to convert our chances because they really were nonexistent. Podoldski was hardly in the game, why play him if he’s nursing an injury.

Eeveryone was much too cautious, you can’t score if you don’t even try and it looked to me that they expected to score by magic. Very worrying.

I’m posting this from my phone as my internet is down, does anyone fancy writing a critique for tomorrow?

Things are bad. Dont even feel like stretching, thats how bad it is.

ime off to listen to my 70s Disco inferno album and dance around the house like a loon until i colapse or the Mrs calls the men in the white coats.

  191. glic says:

Now let me think………who was it who picked the line up ?…………ermm……….it`s coming to me………oh yeah………. The Dark Sith Lord of Denmark ! hahaha

  192. Big Raddy says:

    Mea Culpa. Mea Grandisima Culpa

    I can take it ,,,,

But what I can’t take is how in 90 minutes we didn’t manage one decent cross or shot. We made it easy for Norwich.

Had Mannone made the save we still would not have won. I think Theo has a bargaining chip after that performance – at least he would have tested his full back. Gervinhho was pants.

Can’t blame Ramsey or Arteta, both did OK. Jenks was his usual solid self.

    I blame Diaby

  193. LB says:

I am a bit confused as to why the defence is coming in for stick. It doesn’t strike me that they were in the wrong today. I don’t even think Mannone was that bad. The shot from which they scored had a cruel swerve on it.
My problem is the attack. Gervinho is completely ineffectual on the right wing, he is so much better on the left but for him to play there Podolski would have to give way and Wenger is not that brave.
Giroud can make a good pass but he cannot hold the ball, beat a man and create space, we are only now seeing how one dimentional he is.
Cazorla is still great in my mind the problem he has is that the players in front of him are so inferior.
If Steve Bould can sought out the defence as quickly as he has maybe it is time for Wenger to employ some help with the attack.

  194. glic says:

I hope we improve for the QPR game as them tickets cost me 51 squids each and I was hoping to see all my fav` players, but their dropping like flies !. Spend some bloody money between now and next Saturday Arsene !. hahaha

  195. LB says:

    Podolski, Giroud, Gervinho

Great on paper, pretty bloody average in practice.

  196. Big Raddy says:

LB. It may explain why AW is after a striker in January. I agree about the defence though once again TV made some errors which could have been costly.

  197. kelsey says:

If Gnabry at 17 can make the bench and not Chamakh, what does that tell you ?

LB: I agree in part but today even allowing for injuries, Wenger got it wrong. Put into perspective Norwich are a very poor team and not for the first time the team lacked passion and motivation.

  198. LB says:

It tells me that the club would love to unload Chamakh but there are no buyers.

Which bit (in particular) do you think Wenger got wrong?

  199. glic says:

Dont be too hard on yourself Raddy, I forgive you………although some of the regular crew want to chuck you out of a speeding car, bound and gagged, tarred with cockerel feathers into the N17 Swamplands ! hahaha

  200. MickyDidIt89 says:

I agree with what you say. So he needs help with the defence and now the attack as well 😦
Oh well, he’s still got the midfield to manage I guess 🙂
Actually, he’s desperately in need of a motivator.

  201. LB says:

Vermealen slipped which could have lead to their second goal, to me anyone can slip but does that really mean the player had a bad game? Not to me it doesn’t anyway.

  202. we were shite. terrible performance. I think top 4 is the target.

  203. LB says:

Everyone plays exactly the same way against us: two banks of four and wait until we trip over our own feet. It isn’t even a case of parking the bus, we are so ineffectual at getting into the box, from one side of the pitch to the other about 25 yards out, over and over again with all the penetration of a wet sheep as some politician said a long time ago.

  204. LB says:

Top four? Even Liverpool are better than us.

  205. Neamman says:

Norwich worked hard, good luck to them. I dont know who played for Arsenal because it was no one I recognised. the only pl;ayer who came out with some credit was Jenks. Dont blame Mannone for the was dipping and swerving. Craig Forrest [ex Ipswich goalie] here in Canada initially blamed The goalie but after looking at again it said it wasnt his fault.

  206. glic says:

I`m not too worried, as I was told by my respected peers on AA that in two years time we will be challenging on a more level playing field. So this is at the moment is just practicing and tinkering about. Keep your goals at CL qualification for a couple of years and then we can take off.
I know we all want something k now, but is it really realistic against what the others have spent ?. If we can get CL for the next few years, then I`ll be a happy bunny, if we were bunny boilers we would be on Le Grove !.

  207. LB says:

This better be our Manchester United moment of last season.

  208. VCC says:

GLiC 8:10 if your a Spurs fan, you would have loved it.

Well, well, well, what more can I say about THAT.

Going to calm down now. Wthabbbcizlalsifnvinsdovsdvinsdjcbsjkdcnawwwwthdxm.

  209. Gooner In Exile says:

Calm down LB dear boy, your 8:58 goes too far 🙂

As for our defending I personally thought there were quite a few problems, not just when Verm slipped but more than once Norwich broke with threat, and a better team would have capitalised on that threat.

The scary thing about that performance was that no one seemed comfortable in possession and we forgot to work for each other off the ball.

Santos changed our shape so much in the first half with his free spirited movement.

The lack of someone prepared to run through the lines with the ball was most disappointing for me.

Giroud…one dimensional? Maybe but without decent service he can’t even use that dimension which it would appear he is quite good at.

But as always in football you can carry one player who is not at the races, you can’t carry 5 or 6. That’s where we were today.

  210. VCC says:

GLiC. 8:41….I can get you £2:50 for each of those tickets if you want.

  211. LB says:

“A better team would have capitalised” Maybe, maybe not, the fact is they didn’t today and it was the Norwich game that I was talking about.

Ok the Liverpool comment was a bit extreme.

  212. You can all relax because unless someone insists, I shall write a moan for tomorrow …………. any other takers????????????

  213. LB says:

Right, I am off, the Magabe media lock down starts now.

  214. What happened to us today?? i love Arsenal. I love Arsene Wenger. My belief in the current crop of players have been sky high even after losing to Chelski. Now we seem to have hit a new low in not having the wherewithal to come from behind to beat a very low lying Norwich side. They didn’t play us off the park. We just didn’t play. Is Le Prof. totally incapable of lifting the team from being abysmal to even mediocrity with his half time meets? This same side can and will overwhelm better sides this term, so, what happened? I am so perplexed.
Match of the Day will not be viewed by me this week. I can hardly stomach the smirking crisp chomper when we win. So then, not this week. Did we even force the Ruddy one into making a save? Did the lovely Delia have to take the mic. to beg stunned fans ” let’s be ‘aveing yer?” Does the BSR need to feel embarrassed having left a team on the up? It would seem the answer to those questions are – nay, nay & thrice nay.
All this disappointment and more, will be insignificant if we go to Robin’s new nest and take all 3 points back with us.
    I love Arsenal!!!!!

  215. LB
I said it was a target. not that we’d definitely get it

  216. glic says:

That is a more than good offer, but think of the fun I would miss out on by not bringing the dragging , kicking and screaming boy of mine to the game !
Well done peaches, you women are so much better at doing the moaning stuff ! hahaha

  217. Oh dear, that was a bit crap.

  218. Thank you glic …… at least someone reads my comments 😉

  219. glic says:

peaches, no disrespect, but my wife is a ” Super Quality” world class moaner and if Arsenal were in the hunt for one we would probably be out bid by Man City for her !. hahaha

  220. Well I can manage a fine moan myself so I appreciate the fact that you think your wife is ‘world class’ 😆

  221. chary – I think we should plan to meet extra early on Wednesday as I feel a lot of Peronis may be required 😦

  222. One advantage to not having to watch MOTD tonight is that ‘arry is on and I can’t bear listening to him so now I don’t have to 🙂

  223. Gooner In Exile says:

Reminds me to check Ticket Exchange must be a flood of tickets for Schalke. Actually it’s not sold out so not sure it can go on Exchange.

Only option for me at the moment is back of the Upper tier 😦

  224. SharkeySuresGhost says:

    Evening all

I don;t really get how such a talented team can play so badly for a full 90 mins.

I agree that Gibbs was a big miss, but he really shouldn;t be. Santos shoud be told to stay wide nd keep their midfield stretched. Why is he allowed to roam infield so much. If he won’t staty wide, then play Miquel there…hell charge up ad down the white lines all day for us.

I think Ramsey has been mostly good this season. …but I thought he was off colour today. Perhaps Le Coq on to support Arteta and release Santos a bit was the answer

  225. Peachy, I’ll be leaving work early on Wednesday. We’re going to need some extra pre match relaxer as you rightly suspect 😦

  226. Gooner In Exile says:

Sharkey you and I both agree on Santos today….he held his shape much better second half and as a consequence we looked a little more cohesive. But surely that was addressed pre match.

I just thought we lacked sharpness all over the pitch today.

  227. SharkeySuresGhost says:

I really thought days of looking so toothless were behind us.

  228. oz gunner says:

What i don’t get is how Santos can do what he wants. It’s like Song of last season. Does Arsene let these players have free reign to let their attacking instincts roam free. It just seems strange to me that Bould would allow a player to act like that at the cost of the team.

    @ Sharkespeares Ghost

So did I, I thought the team was made of sterner stuff, but we sure as hell didn’t show it today. Santi looked off and perhaps needs a rest, same with gerv and podolski.

Oh well back to the drawing board.

  229. MickyDidIt89 says:

I’ve just had a look at the Arsenal site, and its very annoying that the exchange doesn’t open just because there is the odd single ticket here and there, as you say, in the back row.

  230. MickyDidIt89 says:

    It was 100% Arsene’s fault.
Post match he talked about underestimating Norwich.

  231. MickyDidIt89 says:

Video time. Something with heaps of ROLF’s would be excellent.

  232. MickyDidIt89 says:

I feel like Sting from The Police in here…lonely

  233. Rob Lucci says:

    We miss Rosicky badly..

  234. MickyDidIt89 says:

I saw clips and thought: “Mmmm, good, Chas has saved me from my Excel Costings things”, but I am now deeply disturbed!

  235. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Or Song 🙂

  236. MickyDidIt89 says:

I don’t think anyone’s in the mood today.
    Back to work 😦

  237. Looks like chas needs rescuing from a dark place – how would you even find those video clips, what would you search?????

  238. kelsey says:

    Morning all.

Do you want an alternative short match report that pulls no punches ?

  239. VCC says:

Kelsey……yes please. Say it as it should be said. Yesterday’s performance was unacceptable from an Arsenal team. Wenger needs to explain a few things. Knee jerk or not, that was abysmal.

Come on Kelsey, give it to us.

  240. kelsey says:

    Hi VCC,

I have just read the draft for today’s post so I will leave it to those in charge. 🙂

  241. Rob Lucci says:

I think he this problem was always there since Wenger earlier tenure. We always have problems with the team everytime we played after international, it’s just, err, his style, you know.

That’s why I said that we missed Rosicky, and maybe Sagna, Because both of them is our only ‘recognizable heroes’. Both of them is the one that reignited back our top 3 ambition last year, you know, the game against the totts.

At least Song’s replacement is way much better than him. Both Rosicky’s replacement still didnt prove they were up to scratch, yet. Diaby, injured as usual. Ramsey, well…

  242. evonne says:

Morning, that’s a reality check for us Gunners. We are nowhere near as good as we thought we were, and nowhere near ready to challenge for the title. Sorry, but we were horribly exposed yesterday by an average Norwich,

My weekend has been ruined good and proper

  243. VCC says:

Tell us about it Evonne. That performance has well and truly burst our bubble.

  244. MickyDidIt89 says:

I believe that in almost every position we had better players than Norwich. Ok, maybe not City or Chelsea, but Norwich absolutely definately.
It was lack of application and effort.

  245. evonne says:

VCC – I know that GiE and Micky, and maybe even Raddy or Chas will try to justify yesterday, but I am not having it, the players were awful and that’s it, we have to lump it

  246. Big Raddy says:

Just like my dreams, they fade and die ……

Come On Raddy …. Shape Up. This isn’t the end it is just the end of the beginning. We have seen the team has quality but they were poor yesterday.

A costly defeat but not fatal.

  247. Gooner In Exile says:

Here’s the thing I’m trying to think rationally, and like Sharkey said last night how can a talented group of players be so toothless?

Two weeks ago we all commented on how much better it was to have the experience of Pod, Santi, BFG and Arteta in the team, able to realise we have a problem and help others around them to get the job done.

Can we put yesterday down to a freak performance, I sure as hell hope so, otherwise we are back to square one if not zero.

Whilst we are suffering injuries it’s no excuse as the team that took the field yesterday should have had too much for Norwich…..we simply didn’t turn up. I was disappointed with the result against Chelsea because of the way we conceded, yesterday was worse because we didn’t show up at all.

  248. MickyDidIt89 says:

Speaking only for myself, I’ve made my position crystal clear. I cannot justify the performance and blame Arsene entirely.
I do apologize for sending you out prematurely to tackle the old bat next door 😦

  249. evonne says:

Micky 🙂 I walked with my dogs by her garden and I chirpped in ‘Is it a flower bed you are digging or your own grave after the game?’ We do hate each other, so no, it wasn’t excessive

Gosh, I have to drive to a different park for the next month

Yes, no excuses will do, so don’t even try it GiE

  250. kelsey says:

“We will wait until we see how players are when they come back.(regarding getting a new striker in january though I don’t see the connection)) We did not create enough that is for sure,” he said. “It was a poor collective offensive performance, although we have scored goals up until now.

“We have to give Norwich credit because they were very strong and organised and they stopped us very well.” (oh yea)

“I believe we have to face the reality of the Premier League and if you are not ready from kick-off then you have no chance,” Wenger added. “What can I do now? I am angry because we have not created very much.

“We were not in the game for the first 20 minutes and they scored and it made it difficult. We had to equalise before half-time and did not do that. There was always something missing – defensively we were not at our usual level.” (post match Wenger’s interview)

Sorry GiE, just read your 9:02. Not even YOU can find positives, blimey that is bad

what made me laugh this morning was the rescue mission of the Catholics going to holy Loures. You’d think that God would save them

  253. Gooner In Exile says:

I wish I could Evonne, normally I can say something along the lines of “their keeper had a worldy” “we were unlucky in front of goal” etc etc. but we didn’t create a meaningful chance and Norwich had quite a few.

Mannone’s honeymoon is over, distribution was poor as was his command of the area. The goal is not 100% his fault. But I’m drawn to a quote from Bon Wilson recently “in my day we would know in the first two yards of flight where the ball would go, now the keepers don’t know until the last two yards”.

But that’s a known, and keepers train with the balls every day, we must be able to get better at reacting.

Arsene is right we didn’t look focussed and you can’t just wait to be handed results in the PL.

But surely we also can’t become a bad team overnight? We outplayed Liverpool and City, plus others. A manager can do everything the same but the players for whatever reason don’t perform, when they cross the white line it’s up to them. Every pundit and his dog predicted a whitewash, maybe the players just expected a stroll in the park, as the players took the pitch the ESPN pundits said again “Norwich have no chance” but then John Barnes said the truest words “But this is football, anything can happen”. And it will always happen when you take the field expecting to win rather than trying to win.

  254. Big Raddy says:

Rare that GIE doesn’t have a positive

  255. I have a positive after all Raddy……
