Aston Villa vs AFC, time to win away and convincingly too

So we go and face Aston Villa in a few hours – a team that is certainly improving under Emery and is full of good players with Martinez – Mings – Luiz, Buendia – Watkins to name a few only. They are scoring more regularly and are conceding a bit less than before but they can still be unpicked. We know how the team will play: fast attacking transitions once the ball has been recovered but also keen to absorb some pressure but against talented wingers, it may back fire…

I can see a tight game for us but we have to WIN, no choice. We need to show a signal that we can bounce back quickly and are ready to fight for the EPL crown till the end…

We missed Partey and we are starting to miss G. Jesus too now…We know that the team we will play against will be nicely set-up so we need to be good on the ball and also NOT make any mistakes…This is a game to be tight and effective, rather than flamboyant. We need three players to really step up their games: our full-backs and Xhaka.

Here is the predicted line up:

Ramsdale – White, Saliba, Gabs, Zinchenko – Jorginho, Xhaka – Saka, Ode, Martinelli – Nketiah

Here is the line up I would have liked:

Ramsdale – White, Saliba, Gabs, TIERNEY – Xhaka, Jorginho, ZINCHENKO – Saka, TROSSARD, Martinelli

I know this requires a team formation change but I think that Odegaard needs a bit of rest and so does Nketiah. We need that extra impetus going forward, solidity in the middle and high-press against Villa…

I can see us grab a disappointing draw at 1-1 or 2-2 with Martinez haunting us with some world class saves and D. Luiz showing us why he would be a great addition to our squad.

COYG! Prove me wrong and go unpick A.Villa to win the game!

    Our team:
Ramsdale – White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko – Jorginho, Xhaka – Saka, Odegaard, Trossard – Nketiah.

Trossard comes in for Martinelli while White reclaims his RB spot.

    Villa Team:
Martinez – Cash, Konsa, Mings, Moreno – Kamara, Luiz, McGinn – Buendia, Watkins, Coutinho.

  2. RC78 says:

    Goal A. Villa…O. Watkins, him again…we don’t learn sometimes

  3. RC78 says:

    Defend going forward not backwards

  4. RC78 says:

The good thing is that we still have 87 minutes to get smt out of the game

  5. RC78 says:

We need to regroup…our defense is looking shaky

  6. RC78 says:

Saka-White should be able to create some chances for Nketiah, Trossard and Odegaard…They need to apply more pressure on this side.

  7. RC78 says:

And there you go…Saka to the rescue (yet again!) We are level 🙂

  8. RC78 says:

White’s cross, poor clearance and the ball falls off to Saka for a screamer in the roof of the net! COYG!

  9. RC78 says:

    Odegaard totally anonymous so far

  10. RC78 says:

We really need Jorginho-Xhaka to cover better our back line…We get exposed far too easily. Jorginho is off today and Xhaka can’t do it all alone

  11. RC78 says:

Saliba also looking far from his best. He needs to settle and focus again.

If we go in front, I think Holding will be called in to shore things up as part of a back 5…

  12. RC78 says:

I think this is a game for ESR to do his magic too…

  13. RC78 says:

Damn Coutinho scores again against us! WTF! We are conceding too easily!

  14. RC78 says:

We re defending like amateurs – even Xhaka looking out of sorts defensively…Where are Jorginho, Gabriel and where are Ramsdale’s saves? My goodness

  15. RC78 says:

Besides Saka, is there anyone else in the team who gives a damn about winning this game? Seems it is a one-man-show…Odegaard, Trossard and strangely Zinchenko are MIA today

  16. RC78 says:

I think we need to bring in Tierney for Jorginho or Odegaard and allow Zinchenko to move in midfield

  17. RC78 says:

Actually both Jorginho and Odegaard can be replaced…bring in Tierney and ESR

  18. RC78 says:

Kamara is bossing the midfield around…

  19. RC78 says:

Kamara, McGinn and Watkins have been great for Villa…We need to find a way back into this game…There must be another player that can help Saka out today

  20. RC78 says:

Time for Arteta to change things up. Bring Zinchenko as part of a midfield three.
    Bring in ESR.

Ramsdale – White, Saliba, Gabs, TIERNEY – Xhaka, Jorginho, Zinchenko – Saka, Trossard, ESR

  21. RC78 says:

    No changes at the break…

  22. fred1266 says:

Rc78 and his reverse psychology eh

  23. fred1266 says:

Nice to see ESR and Nelson on the bench hopefully dey can give us productivety of the bench in the games to come

  24. RC78 says:

    It worked 🙂

    So relieved

  25. RC78 says:

The better team in the second half. We played with courage and intent….and got rewarded despite a few hairy moments.

    Ramsdale – 6
    White – 6
    Saliba – 5
    Gabriel – 5
    Zinchenko – 6
    Jorginho – 6
    Xhaka – 6
    Saka – 8
    Odegaard – 6
    Trossard – 5
    Nketiah – 6

    Tomy – 6
    Martinelli – 6

Worrying for 65 minutes from a defensive unit set-up…but we managed to create goals in the end…

    COYG!

  26. RC78 says:

And City draws! TOP OF THE LEAGUE AGAIN!

  27. LB says:

    Great stuff RC.

I’m only just starting to calm down.

  28. RC78 says:

We all need to keep cool but what a dramatic win…and to cap it off, Man City drew…

  29. RC78 says:

On another note, PSG may go back to Tuchel or bring in Mourinho…I hope for Tuchel…or Wenger

  30. LB says:

    Wenger???????????????????

  31. RC78 says:

Qatar loves Wenger…and Wenger any day over Mourinho

  32. LB says:

I’m sure Qatar loves Wenger but does Wenger still love management?

  33. RC78 says:

True but the lure of managing Messi, Mbappe, Neymar and being in Paris may be hard to resist…

  34. RockyLives says:

    Well, we needed that.

    And as for Forest… 🙂

  35. Aaron says:

    Rocky,
    Hear hear.

Let’s get ESR and Partey back, along with Jesus in time, and bow out of EL, and see what can happen!

  36. LB says:

Yah, Rocky, good to see your name there.

  37. RockyLives says:

Thanks LB – nice to see some regular ‘faces’ on here.

Life gets busy sometimes so I haven’t been able to get involved but have continued to enjoy reading.

    RC doing a great job.

  38. RC78 says:

So Arsenal was down 2-1 and then managed to win 4-2 in the last minutes of the game vs Villa

So PSG was up 2-0 and then was down 3-2 vs Lille with less than 10 minutes to play…and we end up winning 4-3…

Games like this make football so much fun 🙂

PSG keen on Kolo Muani, M. Thuram and M. Kone…If we get Muani and Thuram, we are sorted up front…

    Mbappe, Thuram, K.Muani
    ————Messi————
    —–Verratti,Caiceido
    Mendes, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Hakimi
    ———-Donnaruma———-

That team would be tough to beat…I think that this is the plan for next year…After that Mbappe and Messi will leave PSG

  39. LB says:

Can’t imagine having an interest in a team that has Mbappe and Messi in it — must be fun.

  40. fred1266 says:

hi AAer have a question really hope someone would give me some advice

or should i try and get from a scalper on the day of the game

    thanks in advance

  41. LB says:

Are you still in London for the Leeds game?

  42. fred1266 says:

    no unfortunately

only games i would be around are Fulham, Europa League match and Palace

  43. fred1266 says:

hi fellow londoner another quick question

C2C trains does it also use the normal oyster card or do i need somethin else to travel on it thanks

  44. VP says:

wow, all quiet here after pulling apart Everton

    GOYG 🎶🎂❤✨👏✌😁

  45. Aaron says:

    It is not VP,

Many are super excited to see this amazing turn around this year! Long may it continue.

    Let’s smash Bournemouth…

Can’t wait, team is jelling, so many players doing their absolute best, with talent and skill.

Mikel and company are proving their worth this year for sure.

    COYG

  46. Las says:

Hey Aaron, we just did that 🙂
So so sweet to score the winner at the last minute!
    Nelson for Admiral!
    And Benny Blanco for president!

  47. fred1266 says:

Anyone taking I’m the game in a pub this today

  48. RC78 says:

11 games to go…We need 10 more victories to reach glory…Trossard not a bad signing in the end so far

  49. Las says:

One down, ten to go! We beat Palace as they deserved.
Sucking PV just before this game was the stupidest idea they could have. I hope they go down…
TOTL with 8 points gap and only 10 games to go, I can’t help I started dreaming.

  50. Aaron says:

    Las,

    I hear ya!
However, more enjoyable to take each game as a stand alone result, but we all know hope creeps in.

Just get everyone back, Saliba especially, and let’s get ready for Leeds.

Shout out to Rob Holding for an excellent game, yet I know if not for Ramsdale’s early save it could have gone a different direction- I think.

    COYG
