Here is my take on it. England has a wealth of talent at its disposal, yet again…but for some reason, they have lost their shape and defensive stability after the Euro. 2 reasons for that: Philips has been missing due to injuries and Maguire is bottling all his games…So who goes to Qatar?
3 GK: Pickford, Ramsdale, Pope…not much for debate here except that Dean Henderson can feel frustrated by the way Man U treated him last season
2 RB: Reece James, K. Trippier
4 CB: K. Walker, J. Stones, Dier, B.White or C. Coady or T. Mings
2 LB: B. Chilwell, Luke Shaw
3 DM: D. Rice, K. Philips (if fit), J. Ward Prowse
3 CM: Bellingham, Henderson, Foden
3 AM: Mount, Maddisson, Grealish
3 FW: Saka, Rashford, Sterling
2 CF: Kane, Toney
1 spot left for TAA or Sancho or Wilson or Watkins or Abraham…I would take TAA because he can unlock games with a shot or a clever pass but I think Sancho will be in the plane
Best first XI:
Ramsdale – Trippier, Walker, Stones, Chilwell – Rice, Philipps – Saka, Mount, Foden – Kane
in Gary’s 3-4-3:
Ramsdale – Walker, Stones, Dier – Reece James, Rice, Philipps, Chilwell – Sterling, Kane, Foden
In any case, Gary has to take Ramdale and Saka for sure and I think there is a case for B. White too
RC – thanks for trying desperately to fill the void. I fear that the lack of reaction to your article indicates that Arsenal supporters don’t give diddly squat for the national team. I certainly don’t. I’d be delighted if Arsenal players get selected, for their own career arc, but then never play a match. I’d be equally pleased if an extremely minor strain keeps them at London Conley for treatment for the duration of the Qatar Farce. I’d be impressed if players refused to take part on Human Rights grounds, or chose the tournament to come out at a news conference. Did I read somewhere that Paris is intending to black out the tournament? Good for them, if true. That this event is taking place at all is a travesty.
But then, I lost interest in international football matches a long time ago, and only watch if Germany or Brazil is playing, and quite often not even then!
Thanks anyway. Now for what will be a surprisingly difficult game on Thursday, especially if Arteta wants the opportunity to rotate as much as he did against Zurich. Bodo Glimt might sound harmless, but their European results prove they are anything but.
Nice one, RC. Bellingham looks like the bee’s knees to me and so Saka.
I would opt for something like this:
Pickford
White-Stones-Dier-Walker
Trice or Philips
Saka-Bellingham
Foden-Kane-Mount
(4-1-2-3)
Rice not Trice
Haha really was wondering who that player was
Rice is cooked while Trice was cooked up…sorry for that poor joke but could not resist
Lol, RC
Definitely need to try that dish when next am in England
None, I don’t want any of our players anywhere near that circus.
My XI is an unconventional one, focusing on youth and replacing the traditional center forward with a false 9, as Kane was unimpressive in recent games.
