Welcome to the last day of voting for Arsenal Arsenal‘s players of the season.
In recent days you have been given the chance to vote for our player of the year in each of the three main categories (Defence, Midfield, Attack). If you have not yet cast your vote in those polls you can still do so – you can find them in ‘recent posts’.
Today it’s time to vote for our overall Player of the Season, as well as Young Player (23 and under) and Most Improved Player.
For these categories I have taken the liberty of compiling shortlists of players whom I think can be realistically considered for the various honours, even if some of them are a bit of a long shot. If your favourite player has not been listed I apologise, but feel free to remonstrate with me in the comments.
For example – and possibly controversially – I have not included Saka, ESR and Tierney in the “most improved” category because the season before last was their first real season of playing and they did not have a full season then, either through injury or not being regular members of the first team squad, so comparisons don’t really work.
Bear in mind for all the votes that we are considering players’ performances in this season only, so please try and put heroics and disasters from previous seasons out of your mind.
Results from all this week’s polls will be published tomorrow.
Have at it.
RockyLives
Young Player of The Season: Emile Smith Rowe
Most Improved Player of The Season: Nicolas Pépé
Player of The Season: Bukayo Saka
Good calls JM
I’m going:
Young – ESR
Improved – Xhaka
Overall – Tierney
But it feels wrong that Saka doesn’t feature in my answers… hmmmm
Young player – ERS
Most improved player – Rob Holding
Player of the season – Rob Holding.
Thanks as always, Rocky. Cant wait for next season. Young player – Azeez. Most improved player – Balogun. Player of the Season-Martinelli.
Fred
Having got your head straight regarding Hector, I want your to get your heart around another right back, and this time you should go all in for a Turkish kebab.
Hakimi Achraf, currently of Inter is the man for us.
Kroenke’s OUT OUT Enough is Enough
ESR, Chambers, Saka
Bish, Bash, Bosh
Young player of the season: ESR. Could have gone to Saka but I put Saka as player of the season so ESR for his breakthrough in 2021.
Most improved: Xhaka, Pepe, Chambers .
1. Xhaka after X-mas was (a part maybe 2 games) was a very reliable player, something he had not been so much before so clearly improved.
2. Pepe’s 2021 is very promising and clearly something clicked and I am hoping that the switch stays on now for good and that he is able to be a 10 goals, 10 assists in the EPL player for us and if he can score and assist more, great and he is of course welcome to do well in Cup competitions too
3. Chambers – what a last trimester for him! He became our most reliable right-back out of nowhere but with his excellent mindset, diligent work attitude and not being injured, he was able to make the RB role his.
Player of the season: Saka.
It could have been Holding, Xhaka, Tierney, ESR, Pepe or Laca but for me, Saka was the shining light throughout the season. A fantastic football brain, a good attitude and wonderful skills, our most valuable player this season. I am sure that next year he will bag in more chances created, assists and goals.
Disappointment of the season:
1. Auba
2. Willian
3. Partey
These were three players that we expected to deliver this season and they all failed to live up to the expectations. I am hoping that Partey is now ready for the EPL and will be a stellar player for us in the years to come.
Pete
Chambers would certainly be close in my most improved, but when he returned from Fulham he was being lauded loudly.
Unai never took advantage and his conversion to right back was judged initially on those first few games at right back. Holding and Chambers are Arsenal through and through and are”of the old guard” that Arsenal must never lose completely, IMO.
RC
Disagree again with No 3 on your “disappointments”. No player has had more unreasonable expectations placed on his shoulders than Partey, largely because of the poor quality of midfield around him and the liability of at least one defender behind him.
LBG – stop disagreeing…lol…Partey came with huge expectations because he was a very solid player at Atletico so while they may have been too high, having expectations for him was reasonable…plus after the Man Utd game, we were all saying “that’s it. He s ready for the EPL. He is going to be our New Vieira” but he has not really delivered this season…I m hopeful he will next season though

“spice of life”…..mine anyway!
Don’t we love spicy food here 😛
Real Betis general manager denies absolutely being in contact with Arsenal about, Hector.
You may still not be left in the lurch by Bellerin, Fred!😁

Spicy life, spicy food, spicy comments. Only anti Spicy Girls!
Hi Rocky – I put in a post in draft about Central Defenders. We can maybe use it early next week
Santi Cazorla in Poland for Villarreal’s thrashing of Manure. Hoisted above heads by players of his former Club.
New “highly rated” goalkeeping coach, Terry Mason ( not Perry) from Soufend and England U18s signed for the the super red and whites.
Andy Robertson says KT is a brilliant player who will get even better in near future. ( We know that, and no you cant sign him).
Moaninho
“Granit Xhaka is the the main man in the entire Arsenal midfield. You cant see it unless I lend you one of my eyes”😯😯😯
Forget about lending others your eye Jose, you need to go to Specsavers urgently!
Jesus and Laporte possibly offered to Levy as part of deal for Kane.
Alaba to Real Madrid
Eddie plus money for Bissouma.
Its funny LBG how all the managers see it but you don’t. Luckily, you are a humble fellow and will adjust your POV. 😆
I am of a mind to say that football in general, and Arsenal specifically can induce fractious comments a-plenty.
In fact, I have realised that I am usually the culprit in that respect, but it is just the way I is,
Therefore, it behoves me to say there has been some totally unexpected ‘happenings’ in the Arsenal team since the season started, because initially I was led by LBG into thinking that I would gladly see Xhaka getting the Saka because his performances were truly poor, and sadly, after Thomas Partey had had an outstanding start to the season on his Arsenal debut, and which continued up until Xmas, he then quietly started to ship water and become waterlogged, because he was doing the work of two players to compensate for the lackadaisical performances of the aforementioned Xhaka.
But …. Xhaka started to perform very well after Xmas, and polished up his diving, when tackled, by clinging onto the ball under his body when lying prostrate, and forcing the referees to award him dubious free kicks, which negated problems caused by his lack of pace, and allowed him to tackle harder, and …. the guy really shone in many games. [ most improved player over (part) of the season.] 7/10
Chambers has been gutsy, and never gave up chasing down speedy opposition wingers, and it was eye opening to see he could match the superb Tierney with classy crosses into the box, rather than Belli Button’s 2 metre crosses into the opposition full back’s own belly button.
The salt on the main course of the more senior guys was the youngsters, Martinelli, Pepe, ESR, and of course Saka, when they got the chance to play, who spiced up the team performances to a wonderful degree.
You wrote a superb Post, again, Rocky, but with my limited ability to separate out the best players from the pack, when some of them suffered a gradual performance decline, and then there were some of the youngsters who one day will become the best players, with at least one of the worst players in Xhaka, nudging his way back into being close to the very best at the club in the final part of the season.
The defence settled down and contributed very well to the improvement in the final quarter of the season, proudly led by the outstanding Holding.
I have not entered the Poll, because I am not knowledgeable enough to separate the wheat from the chaff — no surprise there then. 😳
LBG I have seen hakimi play and like him since he was playing for Dortmund but still don’t want hector to leave would love if he ends his career with us
Chambers only played 20 games this season 10 in prem so those who saying he is most improved am shocked
Yea alaba deal was done months now
RA
Welcome back, sir.
Total
Well I know what I see. When Xhaka wins something with another team of quality, national or International, I will bow to all those knowledgeable managers and bloggers.
Can someone explain me the purpose of getting bissouma, isn’t he a similar player to partey
We already had a goal scoring issue this year so getting another CDM who offers nothing in attack is he really worth it
I can Fred. Bissouma is the real holding, tackling, breaking down opposition attacks player. Partey has much more in his Arsenal. I believe he CAN become more of a Patrick Vieira than we have seen so far from him.
Fair enough, LBG. We can only know what we see.
“…thinking that I would gladly see Xhaka getting the Saka…” 😀
Welcome back Redders – we’ve missed you.
Ok fair enough
I remain a gonner
Sorry to hear that Dick.
If you return to the land of the living you’re welcome to join us Gooners here on AA.

Forgot to say Sir, you are without doubt one of the “wheatest” on this blog.
Gosh, LBG – and good morning.
As RC pointed out, recently, your spelling is a separate meritocracy in its own right, but I was really
chaffedchuffed to be told I was among the ‘wheatest = sweetest’ on the blog — ahh shucks!!!! 🤒😂 — and that is so true!New Post
