Arsenal’s Players of the Season: You Vote – Part 3 – Attack

Flashback to the One and Only

Today is your chance to vote for our Attacking Player of the Season.

Perhaps the toughest category for a clear-cut winner… but maybe not, it all depends on how we all vote.

You can still vote for Defensive and Midfield Players of the Season by visiting the Posts from yesterday and Tuesday (you can find them in the ‘recent posts’ menu on the right).

Feel free to discuss the options in comments. And if you feel compelled to vote for Willian please seek help immediately.

Tomorrow we’ll vote for overall Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Most Improved Player of the Year.

The results for all the polls will be published on Saturday.

  1. RC78 says:

Hi Rocky – thanks for the post again.

I have voted for Pepe just to be a bit controversial as probably the majority of bloggers will vote for Laca. I voted for Pepe because he ended the season well and was our most decisive player in the last third of the pitch. Of course, he played a few more minutes than Laca but there is no guarantee that Laca would have added to his goal or assist tally if he played another 100 minutes so…there you go.

    So there you go:
    A) Tierney – Saka – Pepe for me 🙂 ->
    All left footed…lol…All under 26 y.o…

    B) Holding – ESR – Laca
    C) Mari – Xhaka – Auba

  2. RockyLives says:

    Morning RC

I don’t think Pepe is a controversial choice at all. In fact if I had to guess I would say he’ll come out on top.

But this may well be the hardest category. I felt the Defence and Midfield choices had more obvious stand-out options (although I have not looked at the voting results yet so I could be wrong on those as well).

  3. RockyLives says:

Unai’s win last night is interesting.

It makes you think that his failure at Arsenal was as much about us as it was about him.

Was there a culture at Arsenal that made it almost impossible for him to succeed? And if so, did it come from the top (the ownership)? Or from a clique of disruptive players? Was it just that following Arsene was pretty much an impossible task for anyone?

Mind you, a Villareal performance with only one shot on target in 120 minutes does bring back bad memories of our constipated play under the Spaniard.

  4. JM says:

    Nicolas Pépé

  5. RC78 says:

Unai, if given a group of players that is ready to work hard and playing for a squad, can work wonders in a good club like Sevilla or Villareal but PSG and Arsenal come with their politics and stars and he just couldn’t manage. I also think that he can always pull Cup wins but to be consistent in the League may be harder for him especially in the EPL.

One season at Sevilla, his team played very attractive offensive football. That team was really great I think with Gameiro up front amongst others. Besides that one season, his teams just played controlled football – very robotic, not creative…but to be fair, we are still waiting for this type of football to Arsenal since 2015 and I am hoping that next year, we will play better and more effective football.

  6. RC78 says:

Hi Rocky – I am convinced the fans will back Laca

  7. Olanya Geoffrey Galdinoh says:

    Me think Alexander Lacazete

  8. Pete the Thirst says:

I have abstained. None of the players listed deserve it.

Pepe had a good end to the season, but spent most of it running around like a headless chicken.

  9. LBG says:

Saka was the best attacking player of the season. Thanks for Post. Wonder what RC thought of my “manager” thoughts at end of last post?

  10. Pete the Thirst says:

Well done to Emery and Villareal.

United fell into the same trap we did. They were too cautious. Despite going a goal behind they should have been pressuring the Villareal keeper. Long shots, crosses, rather than passing it to death behind 11 defenders.

United are similar to Arsenal at the moment. Much better against teams that come out to play. Defend deep and they struggle as Arsenal do.

    Any f@ck United.

  11. RC78 says:

Hi LBG – not sure about which comment you referred to?
    1. Is it about your spelling of coaches 🙂 ? Then it is awfully wrong
    2. Is it about the anticipated change of coaches in clubs?

If it is about the latter:
    1. Tottenham – They are going all in for Conte now but they may end up with Potter, Rangnik, Mason and an outside chance with Galtier and Pochetinno

    2. Man Utd – They will stick with Ole for one more season

    3. Real Madrid – They want Allegri or Conte. If they can’t these two, they will promote Raul.

    4. Inter Milan – They may end up with Inzaghi or Sarri

    5. PSG – If Pochetinno leaves (would be amazing!), then their first name is Allegri, second one is Conte and third one is…Galtier.

    6. Juventus – If Zidane is free, then Juve will sack Pirlo and Zizou will take over.

Now, here is the likely scenario for all:

    1. Tottenham get Pochetinno
    2. Man Utd stick with Ole
    3. Real get Allegri
    4. Inter get Inzaghi
    5. PSG get Conte
    6. Juve get Zizou

  12. RC78 says:

As for AFC, make no mistake, Arteta will be given a chance to complete full 2 years and then his position will be scrutinized….so AFC will be managed by Arteta

  13. RC78 says:

Interestingly, Donnarumma is available for free…

Please AFC, do sell Leno and bring Donnarumma. He is very young, very experienced and very good. He can improve for sure but he is very good already.

So technically, you could bring these 3 players for free:
    Donnarumma – upgrade to Leno
Bertrand – upgrade to Cedric as LB
Depay – upgrade to Willian as LFW

Add Aarons, Buendia and a player like Ward-Prowse, and you have a decent looking squad that can at least compete for Cups and even a Top 6 finish

  14. Maina says:

Pepe shows he holds a great future ahead

  15. Maina Muigai says:

Pepe will become a great player in future if fully supported

  16. LBG says:

    RC
My spelling was intentional, of course😁
So, interesting your confidence, and what do you think of Conte coming potentially to your beloved PSG?

  17. RC78 says:

I do not rate Pochetinno – he is a good coach to bring good teams to a very good level but I do not think he can make a very good team into a match-winning machine and at this stage, PSG needs a match winner. My preferred option would be Conte because he has this fiery personality that will delight the fans and players but I think Leonardo will prefer Allegri to Conte because Allegri is more phlegmatic and is still a wonderful tactician so, if feasible, we get rid of Pochetinno whose appointment was a mistake all along and then if we replace him, my first choice would be Conte and then Allegri but if Leonardo has his ways, he ll go with Allegri meaning that Conte would then go to Madrid…I am not sure Conte would enjoy working with Spurs and if he goes there, he ll want a massive contract, treasure chest and the assurance that Kane would say…

  18. RC78 says:

    LBG –

    A) Pirlo has been sacked from Juve! Juve want Allegri back!
    B) Zidane has ended his contract at Real! If Allegri goes to Juve, then Conte will be with Madrid…

    What a day already!

  19. RC78 says:

Allegri apparently agrees to go back to Juve, which means:
    1. Zidane will not go back to Juve
    2. Conte has the chance to join Real
    3. Less chances for PSG to replace Pochetinno 😦

  20. LBG says:

On the basis of cost of the two or three players we might be interested in this year, hope we can get rid/get substantial offers for a few of the squad likely to leave asap.

  21. LBG says:

Betis please swoop in for Hector B. We are waiting, even if Fred is unhappy.

  22. RC78 says:

I think Bellerin is expected to go and maybe Cedric as well…

Then it seems that we may be able to cash in on Torreira and Douzi.

So that is already 4 players. Now, we may add Nketiah to that list and maybe Mavropanos and Willock if we are desperate for cash.

Kola will be released and maybe Willian too…

    Busy summer ahead

  23. LBG says:

Moaninho want Xhaka for Roma. I think I am in heaven!😁

  24. fred1266 says:

    Lbg don’t get me excited

  25. fred1266 says:

Seriously we have some idiots running this club what was the actual purpose of Cedric really

  26. fred1266 says:

Lbg I thought we were friends, first sue now you sigh

  27. fred1266 says:

Donnarma really rc78 have you ever seen him play sigh

  28. Sue says:

😄 Fred!! I can’t help despising the Chavs. It’ll be Aguero’s last game for City, and in my eyes he’s a PL legend, so it’d be really fitting for him to lift that trophy… albeit he’ll have a job, as it’s much bigger than him 😂

  29. RC78 says:

Fred – Donna…is not perfect but I think there is a Courtois type of GK in him if coached properly…and I suppose this is where it ends for us because I am not sure we have the proper GK coaching staff but Donnarumma is going to be a Top 8 GK for the next decade for sure.

  30. RC78 says:

    if coached properly 😛

  31. RC78 says:

If Roma does not put 20 Mln pounds for Xhaka, no chance that Edu-Arteta let him go.

  32. fred1266 says:

Legend smegend, Henry didn’t win a CL on his way out with us so who cares about aguero

  33. fred1266 says:

That my point why u even suggesting we go for a keeper that isn’t perfect now but in 2 years time, I mean if you dreaming for a GK dream big at least like Pope or Emi not someone who would be good in a few years but good now

  34. fred1266 says:

And am take you up on that bet donnarma ent going to be no top ten GK

What we betting cake from lenotre

  35. fred1266 says:

I will pay the extra money arsenal wants just get him out

  36. RockyLives says:

    New Post

  37. LBG says:

    Fred “Merci Arsene” Legend
    “Legend Smegend” love it!
Sue and I are only trying to wean you off this unhealthy love of the Spanish full back. It will only end in tears.
Happy to contribute to the ” let Moaninho have the useless Swiss cheese” fund and readily agree we dont need an “almost” top 10 European goalkeeper or Ward-Prouse, thank you.
Have a good weekend and come on you Shitty!
