Arsenal Arsenal’s Player(s) of the Year: Vote Now

Well, that was a funny old season, wasn’t it?

Our beloved Arsenal took us to the depths of despondency, the cusp of disharmony and, worst of all, the brink of apathy.

When fans of a club cease to really care – when they can’t even summon up the passion to be all that bothered about another disastrous performance – that club is facing a serious problem.

But there was a twist in the tail. Somehow Arsenal belatedly stumbled on the right manager for the moment and massaged our tortured souls with a truly unexpected happy ending.

If I could sum up that season as an image, it would be of being dragged helpless through an enormous cactus patch, only to find that when you get to the other side a spectacular banquet is waiting with supermodels eager to serve you.

But as we reflect on this weirdest of campaigns, perhaps it’s time to add to the positive vibes by considering our best players of the season.

Cast your votes in the categories below and between us all we’ll decide who deserves the laurels.

Pls we more quality players in our team

  2. Rasp says:

Thanks Rocky, the answers were all no-brainers for me.

Surprisingly I made the top ranked choice in every category … but then I saw how many votes had been cast so far 🙂

I do hope today’s rumour mill story of the day about Arteta being over-ruled by the Board on the decision to sell A M-N. He’s a keeper for me, and it seems that’s the way MA sees it.

  3. We should sign coutinho

I would be very sad to see us let AMN go.

Surely we can get enough income from selling Torreira, Guendouzi, Kola, Sokratis etc to make it worth our while. Especially when you think we found the money to give Cedric a four year deal which I can’t say seems merited on what we’ve seen so far.

  5. GoonerB says:

    Thanks Rocky
I went with the majority except in the defender category which I knew would go against the popular vote. Tierney excites me the most but has been injured for much of the season.

Despite a couple of calamity games Luiz stepped up in the big games and was Artetas go to leader in the squad with his experience. I don’t think we win the cup without his input in the semi and final. He also took the younger less experienced under his wing and I am sure Arteta really valued him as the player to carry across his message among the players

Credit must also go to Xhaka and Ceballos for the turnaround in the team performances.

  6. GoonerB says:

Agree with others about AMN. I felt in the latter Wenger years we were trying to have too many multi positional players but each team still needs a couple of them and AMN and Chambers are useful squad players because of this.

Also I still feel he could make a top right full back if he mentally invested in the role and got the right specific coaching. I think his wish to be in the midfield always meant he wasn’t totally committed to it when he had a run of games there and also the whole team was a shambles. If he had a change if heart and really went for it I feel he has the capability to be superior to Bellerin in the role.

Nobody probably don’t even want to pay for sokratis and kolasinac

Sue how much you willing to pay for kolasinac

  8. LBG says:

The A M-N dilemma for me is has Mikel convinced him of GoonerB’s belief? Can the Boss make him into a consistent “defensive” fullback. For me the answer is unlikely. If we are to continue playing three at the back, I do believe he is capable of the attacking wing-back role, but is that Mikel’s future plan? I think not. (The dilemma is even more significant because I dont believe either Hector or Soares are as good as we need there, so I would be looking for another established defensive right back with attacking capabilities.)
If however, Mikel going to return to 443 or my preference 4412 both full backs need to have defensive strength first and foremost.
Having said this, I would probably keep Ainsley and stick with selling Torreira, Guendouzi, Sokratis, Kolasinac and, of course, Elneny and Micky.

  9. Sue says:

    Fred… A tenner…. 20 at a push 😜😂

    Saw this on twitter:
Gabriel has been excluded from Lille’s squad to face Alkmaar today. And his number 4 shirt is being worn by Nassim Innocenti.

    Surely he’s coming to NL!!

  10. LBG says:

    Sorry folks!
As I walked the dog in almost ninety degrees oppressive heat and considered my last, I realised I am not only too old to walk in that heat, but also cant count!!
Even our young genius Mikel could not get away with 11 outfield players!!! 4312 is of course what I intended.

  11. Aaron says:

    Rocky,
    A proper poll.
Most of my choices lined up with others, but the injury bug, and thee broken up season makes it difficult to pin down.

AMN is my guy, really like the fact he is one of ours.

Sell some of the other driftwood.

Most British players will command a premium, Holding and Chambers, others are sure to go, Tor to Italy, Sok, Bel and Soares are good enough for other leagues, surely, Lacazette and Leno are useful players who would command a higher price. Ozil, just pay the guy to go.

Just do not want the board to tie Mikel’s hands behind his back!

Keep the youth, everyone here knows who they are, and let Mikel develop them. Some have higher ceilings than others, but I hope the board or the others, whom I wish were not at our club, will let him build a team of his choosing.

  12. LBG says:

    Recommend the cricket to all.

  13. oz gunner says:

    Cheers Rocky.

Agree with everyone regardiing AMN. Like coquelin before him. Sometimes you need that jack of all trades player in the squad. Plus he’s still young.

If you need to sell him send him to Everton. They paid 35 million for iwobi. Their transfer expert might offer 50 for AMN. Got that english multiplier added to his value!

  14. Aaron says:

Forgot to mention Guen and Kola, some money in there somewhere too.

Pirlo to manage Juve-good grief. Might turn our like Zidane at Madrid, but he has an aging squad, and unless new blood in will not do any better than Sarri in CL. Zidane had good timing, but that too is now all used up.

  15. Thank you Rocky …… what a great poll. I also bucked the trend on the Defender and voted for David Luiz. As mentioned above he DID do us proud on more occasions than he didn’t and his experience was invaluable in certain games.

I’m still laughing at the elbow to Giroud’s back last Saturday that had Giroud jump as if he’d been shot 😁

Rocky – are you planning a follow up with results for tomorrow?
