Fun in the Sun?

Final game of a”transitional” PL season. We expected there to be difficulties and there have been, yet win today and we finish 5th with a European Final to come. I would have certainly taken that at season’s start.

Should we draw and MU win … 6th. Is it important? Not if we win the Europa, otherwise I believe we have to play a qualifier in July for the EL.

Although Burnley are in 15th place they remain stern opposition at Turf Moor. Sean Wagner is a beast of a man and has created a team in his image – dogged :-D. Given our away malaise, this afternoon could be a struggle.

On a positive note, we have not lost our final game since 2005. Negative? Referee- Mike Dean.

And what of Burnley? They have scored a record (for them) 44 goals but have conceded 65. They have improved considerably post-Xmas as relegation was a genuine concern. Peter Crouch could start,  Burnley  play as you would expect, long balls, scoring from set-plays, PTB and counter-attack when possible, we will not see ticky tacky from the Clarets.

Who starts for AFC? Iwobi is a cert, as is Leno.  Other than that? Douzi, Mavro, Mustafi, maybe Lichsteiner’s final game. Elneny? Will Nketiah finally get a start or will our superb front two continue?  I simply do not know.

BTW Danny Welbeck is back in full training and according to the Metro (I know, I know), he could ride the pine today and even feature in the coming Final. We are desperate for an experienced attacker on the bench.

Unknown-3.jpeg

What is certain is the wonderful job done by our Aussie Women’s team manager, Joe Montemurro, obviously a man with a big future in football and hopefully at Arsenal.

The sun should be shining and we are always better in warm climes (Napoli,Valencia).  I hope for a good performance ending on a positive note prior to our journey to Baku

To be honest, although this is an important game for AFC my interest will be elsewhere in this excellent finale to the season. To have one team achieving 95+ points is impressive but to have two is astounding. Liverpool and City play superb attacking football and I would like to thank them both for showing that it is still possible to win the Wenger Way. Arsene would be proud.

Looking for two away victories this afternoon.

    BR.. 👌
Peter bloody Crouch – he always scores against us (he scored his one & only hat trick against us, urgh!) So it wouldn’t surprise me if he starts!
Will be a tough afternoon, for sure.. Ashley Barnes fancies himself as a WWE wrestler.. no doubt Mike Dean will turn a blind eye! Although it’ll be interesting to see Barnes come up against Sokratis (as some say he likes to wrestle too 😆)
No doubt I’ll be on the edge of my seat all afternoon, with news coming in from the Amex Stadium (as well as Turf Moor!) COYG… and Yo Pierre – think of the golden boot 👍

  2. fred1266 says:

Isn’t PEA to far away for golden boot now

  3. Sue says:

Fred… Salah is on 22, Auba, Mane & Aguero are on 20. So it’s a lot to ask!!

  4. TotalArsenal says:

Cheers BE and well done with that classy final paragraph. In this schizophrenic season I guess we have to prepare ourselves for another humiliation. It is all about BAKU now but let’s hope the boys can still pull a win out of the bag somehow. Doubt it though.

Thanks to all regular post writers on AA for getting us through the highs and lows of this ‘transitional’ PL season. You have been doing a superb job! 🙂

  5. chas says:

Thanks, BR, I’d imagine that even those who are going to Turf Moor might have their attention focused elsewhere.

Many thanks for all of your efforts over this and every other season of AA blogging. Top work!

Two away victories – do you mean the camel shaggers and Wolves?

I’ve no idea why I chose Man City as my championship horse about fifteen games ago. Maybe because it’s so much easier to attribute them winning it on their unlimited oil money resources.

As you say, both teams deserve it. Good luck to both and may the side which accumulates the most points win it.

As for Turf Moor, maybe the shackles will be off, we’ll win by two clear goals and set up an unbeaten run away from home for the whole of next season. Hmmmmmmm. 🙂

    Morning all,

Thank you Raddy, your posts are always a must read.

I really thought that all hope was lost this season when the team threw away what appeared to be an easy route to the top 3/4 places. The Europa League has been a very different proposition and has raised the spirits of the worldwide fan base.

Today is a meaningless game, so I would prefer to see our key players rested so as to avoid any potential injuries, it’s an opportunity for Unai to see how well our young players can perform on the Premier League stage.

  7. LBG says:

Referees this season…..and this time Scottish!!!
Watch the forearm jab on Brown by Rangers player in middle of penalty area ( couldnt ask for a more deserving player to get a jab, of course) but referee decides he saw enough to give yellow to Rangers player ( not the red it should have been) but no penalty!!! Unbelievable!!!

  8. Sue says:

Oh my Lichtsteiner & Elneny 😖

  9. chas says:

  10. LBG says:

    Sue, Litchsteiner and Mustafi!!!!!!!

  11. Sue says:

LGB… 😂 the more I look at this line up (minus Leno & Auba of course!), I can’t help but think the bench is better 😄

  12. fred1266 says:

Or ok didn’t realise he was only 2 goals off

  13. John Mathews legend says:

Can anyone tell me how to add a photo to a comment?

  14. chas says:

    JML

Copy the internet address of the photo and paste it into a comment.
It must end with .jpg or .png as they are the recognised formats fOR wordpress.

See below, highlight the circled address, copy it and paste it on here – simples. 🙂

  15. fred1266 says:

Not to worried sue we have been so bad in the league even if we played our strongEs side we still probably would have lost today

  16. fred1266 says:

Would have loved to see welbeck get his last game for the club

  17. fred1266 says:

  18. chas says:

    Freddie-baby

Dat guy Welbz might play in the Final!

  19. Sue says:

Fred… I agree…I’m not too worried either, just hope it’s not a complete embarrassment/annihilation!! Yeah would have been nice to see Dat guy Welbz, for one last time!

  20. chas says:

Is anyone watching the Arse game?

  21. John Mathews legend says:

    Chas,
it’s a photo I took on my phone. Don’t know where I’ll find an internet address for it. It is a jpg.
Anyway, time to watch the match!

  22. Sue says:

    I’ve got City/Liverpool on a split screen

  23. chas says:

    JML

You have to load it up to the Internet via twitter, any photo store like imgur or the equivalent

  24. chas says:

Or send it to Arsenalnuts as in the ‘contact’ section above and I’ll post it.

  25. chas says:

    We need nine goals now!

  26. Big Raddy says:

  27. chas says:

    BR

I’m quite enjoying not having to watch it! 🙂

  28. John Mathews legend says:

I’ll send it to Arsenalnuts at half time, don’t do twitter an’all that…

  29. chas says:

    Is it any good?

How many shots on goal have we had?

  30. chas says:

    JML

If it’s too obscene, I might have to censor. ☺

  31. Big Raddy says:

Wow, this is exciting. MC equalize. Still Liverpool title atm

  32. Big Raddy says:

Chas. Even game at Turf Moor. Both teams have hit the post. Our defense looks shaky

  33. Big Raddy says:

9 changes and it shows. Little cohesion, not much happening in midfield or attack. Mavropanos looked gutted to get injured and subbed

At least the sun is shining

  34. Sue says:

    0-0 at half time… I’m impressed 😀

  35. fred1266 says:

    U have to be mad

  36. fred1266 says:

Nope actually watching Southampton why I don’t know

  37. fred1266 says:

Me to thought we would have conceded, I wonder kid a team with Lichtensteiner and mustafi can go 90 without conceding

  38. fred1266 says:

  39. fred1266 says:

  40. fred1266 says:

    2 more for golden boot

  41. Sue says:

United are 2-0 down, both scored by that big unit, who scored against us!
Oh…. and Auba I love you!!

  42. Big Raddy says:

    21. Simply quality

And MU 2 down at home to relegated Cardiff 😃

  43. fred1266 says:

  44. fred1266 says:

    One more for golden boot

  45. fred1266 says:

    i guess not

  46. Big Raddy says:

    22nd is an absolute cracker

  47. Sue says:

    Auba’s on 🔥

  48. Big Raddy says:

    That’s not funny. Burnley score

  49. Sue says:

Theo just loves scoring against the spuds 😉

  50. Big Raddy says:

    Theo’s scored at WHL 😃😄

  51. chas says:

  52. chas says:

  53. chas says:

  54. Sue says:

  57. Sue says:

Mane scored again, 3 way tie then

  58. Sue says:

    Man City Champions… I’m so happy!! 😉

  59. fred1266 says:

Such a shame we have to back pool in a few weeks time

  60. fatgingergooner says:

    GET IN!

Had 4 or more goals in the games at Burnley (1-3), Brighton (1-4), Palace (5-3), Spurs (2-2) and Watford (1-4) so that Nketiah goal just won me £40 from a 50p bet (big spender!!!)

Plus Arsenal pulled off a great win, United, Chelsea and Spurs all failed to win, and Auba at least shared the golden boot. A great day!!!!!

  61. Sue says:

Nice one, Eddie! A precious away win!!
Gutted Auba didn’t get his hat trick, but joint top for the golden boot, brilliant! Take a bow!
Buzzing right now.. City champions… we won away!
And not forgetting Cardiff beating United 😂😂

  62. chas says:

Does Auba win the Golden Boot on less minutes played?

  63. Aaron says:

Arsenal end season with a win- positive, too bad could not get home win to get 4th and push down the spuds….

Europa to play for, pool needs to do their job after losing title in their best season ever to $h*tTy, est 2008, and their oil scumming owners.

Auba finished on positive note, think he will contribute towards a positive European outcome.

  64. Big Raddy says:

Fine afternoon results. Deserves a decent bottle which I will send Smithers to select from the cellar.

  65. Sue says:

Will watch MOTD later.. just to see that smacked arse look on OGS’s face at losing to relegated Cardiff – bloody priceless 😄

Blue moon…..just watching City lift the trophy… I’m jealous… been way too long since we last did that…. maybe next season 😁
Well done City & Pep 👏

  66. John Mathews legend says:

Chas, I sent you my obscene home-made porno photos..

  67. Sue says:

It said on Sky Sports last week that the game of the season was Arsenal v the spuds… what a game that was! Still have it on my Sky box… never to be deleted!!

    Once a gooner, always a gooner ❤

  68. chas says:

    JML says

    MY ARSENAL ROSES

    A bit flakey this season…

Have been blowing about in the wind, but are still managing to bloom.

Hopefully they’ll be glorious at the end of May!

Pretty good up top, nothing much in the middle, and can’t be relied upon to protect/defend the garden.

Some serious pruning to be done this summer, plant some new seeds, and they should be strong for next year..

tbh, I’m not sure anyone would be interested in this stuff, so up to you if you want to stick my comment on AA.
    Anyway, no it’s not obscene!

  69. fred1266 says:

  70. fred1266 says:

Yea shame I didn’t have any of those goal scorers in my fantasy side

  71. Sue says:

    JML’s Arsenal roses 👍

How lush is that – Pierre with his golden boot 😍

  72. fred1266 says:

Apparently they sharing the trophy what rubbish is that

  73. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All,

Did Elneny etc play well enough to extend their AFC careers? He was very strong yesterday as was Mustafi. Iwobi was our most creative player and even Mhki contributed.

    An interesting summer ahead.

  74. chas says:

NEW POST (written from the highlights on Arsenal Player – soz)

  75. fred1266 says:

so if he played one game well BR we have to remember the 100 games he didn’t play well
