New Year Wishes

In this first post of 2019 I would like to thank you. Thank you for reading AA, thank you to those who commented and an especial thank you to those who wrote a post.

2018 was a tumultuous year at Arsenal, I expect the same for 2019. Hopefully no managerial change but equally hopefully, a change of on-field personnel. Arsenal have created an entirely new management set-up, brought in the very best chaps to change the club from Arsenal Wenger. They have in Emery a man who will not be concerned about damaging egos and will bring AFC into the modern era.

My targets for AFC up to summer will be a Top 6 finish, a good run in the Europa and most importantly an indication of an Emery team; one which is based upon organisation and a solid defence. He must be massively frustrated by the goals against column.

In summer I would like to see us loan/sell at least 5 players with a similar number coming in.

By Xmas I would like to see us less than 16 points below the PL leaders and playing the Arsenal way. with a cohesive defensive policy, creative MF’s and the same two excellent strikers.

Let’s start with a win this afternoon.

A Proper Arsenal Goal

Many a slip twixt lip and cup, and we know Arsenal can slip up but Fulham have to be good opposition after the recent humiliation. Despite the mounting injury list, AFC should not lose in the manner of L’pool. A player of Sokratis experience should not be conceding 2 penalties (yes, I know they were both bogus).

GN5 gave us the stats which indicate a positive result. We need it.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and a fine victory this afternoon.

Let it be So.

    Cheers, Mr Radford.

Thanks to you for all your hard work keeping us entertained on match days during 2018.

Let’s kick off 2019 in style and produce a performance we can all be proud of.

  2. mickydidit89 says:

Good morning, and a very Happy New Year to you all.

Special thanks to Chas, Erik, GN5 and LB for putting so much effort into post writing for our benefit. Thank you.

Agree’ish with your vision, but the sentiment is spot on. I still believe we can grab a top four this season, but we must crack on starting today.

Will rush back to the AA sofa for kick off

  3. GunnerN5 says:

A Happy New Year to all AAers.

Raddy, yet again you give us a great start to our football day and our new year, many thanks.

  4. fred1266 says:

    Happy New years everyone

  5. RA says:

Well done, Raddy, a good Post to kick off 2019.

My own wishful thinking pretty much matches your well expressed vision, but for both of us these things are dependent on the funds made available to buy better quality players.

In addition, we need to hope that the usual suspects (some gobby fans) are less fickle and allow the coach time to get the needed new players in and established, and to bring in his own tactical changes and team strategies.

  6. RA says:

All the New Year fireworks displays were very well done, including the London show, but I have to say the Sidney display was utterly amazing, and win my “Best of 2019 Fireworks Display”.

    That should please VP. 😃

  8. mickydidit89 says:

    Thanks Fred

    Auba AND Laca. Quite right.

  9. Big Raddy says:

    NoTerrier 😳

  10. Red Arnie says:

Thank you, Raddy, thank you GN5. 🙂

And to all the good people of AA who keep this place going strong.

Glad to see Kos in the starting lineup. We need him badly, whether or not we are active and lucky in the January market.

    Onwards and upwards. COYG.

  11. mickydidit89 says:

reckon Terrier is rested, Erik, but in a different kind of rested way to Ramsey 🙂

  12. mickydidit89 says:

ha ha ha, what a miss

what the arsenal crowd should do at times like that is roar with laughter. really have a go at their confidence

  13. Big Raddy says:

Not the best of starts. Our lack of pace in the back 3 could prove costly.

  14. Big Raddy says:

    Get in.

    Lovely pass from Wobbly.

  17. fred1266 says:

I went to post the goal and immediately remember after I posted the last game goal we conceded 2

  18. fred1266 says:

Ramsey would do great in this game I think

  19. fred1266 says:

Sokratis timing of tackles sometimes is horrendous

  20. Rasp says:

Thanks for yet another quality prematch Raddy, I couldn’t get a ticket for the game, and have no means of watching, so only text updates available. It sounds like we are not playing particularly well but still worthy of a first half lead?

  21. mickydidit89 says:

I’d describe that as… alright really, so I’ll await the experts to add some footbally flesh

  22. Big Raddy says:

Yes! Ahead at half time again.

Not sure I want to see Sokratis bursting into the opposition penalty box.

  23. Big Raddy says:

Rasp. We spent 20 minutes playing poorly. Defensively open and little cohesion but once we scored we started to play some lovely football.

  24. fred1266 says:

I hope some tells AMN and kolasinac we in a back for so don’t need to attack but to defend some more

  25. Aaron says:

    Happy New Year to all.
To the crew who puts in hours-thank you for the insight.

1st half not bad, should be 4-1 to the Arsenal, but Xhaka, Laca and Auba all missed sitters.
Enjoyed some of the passing combinations.

Expect another goal in the second half.

Start the year off with a win, and good health.

  26. Rasp says:

Thanks for the updates guys … a win of any description is what we need

  27. Big Raddy says:

What a wonderful goal. Just brilliant

  28. mickydidit89 says:

    lovely goal

was about to tell Rasp that some of us do not watch for wins of any description. Too old for 1-0’s 🙂

  29. fred1266 says:

  30. Rasp says:

Hi Micky, HNY ….. I’m thinking about the win in terms of the psyche of the players. …. and the continued support from the fans …. I’d also prefer a 7 goal thriller as long as we win 🙂

  31. Rasp says:

    Why don’t I shut my mouth 😳

  32. Big Raddy says:

More poor referee, Terrier clearly fouled, but then the defence went to sleep.

    We need another goal

  33. mickydidit89 says:

Rasp, I know what you meant. Just a tad too sensible for me 🙂

  34. fred1266 says:

That was a fifty fifty ball no way we getting a foul for that,

  35. fred1266 says:

    We need 2 goals

  36. Big Raddy says:

Makes for an exciting last 20 mins

  37. fred1266 says:

Emery is a dick, Iwobi doing shit but leaves him on to continue do shit steups

  38. mickydidit89 says:

4 goal thriller. so far. you know what i mean Rasp 🙂

  39. Red Arnie says:

great celebration from Rambo. Love the good guy! 🙂

  40. Aaron says:

Well, of course, fulham bring on some pace up top and the Arsenal just lay back.
Arsenal need to win some 50-50’s and maybe take a yellow in one of them.
Sead is truly something going forward. The video Chas put up was perfect.
    Ramsey shuts them down.

  41. Rasp says:

🙂 Micky …. I’m the new AA soothsayer

  42. fred1266 says:

  43. Red Arnie says:

oi Fred, that is not nice.

  44. Rasp says:

…. I’m taking full credit for this …..

  45. Rasp says:

    Bukayu Saka? …. who he?

  46. Red Arnie says:

loved that Auba goal as well .looking nice now. we need to inch closer to the Chavs in GD

  47. fred1266 says:

  48. mickydidit89 says:

    5 goals. worth bothering 🙂

  49. Big Raddy says:

I love when we score two goals in quick succession

  50. mickydidit89 says:

Saka played against some minnow recently and looked very promising

  51. Red Arnie says:

    onwards …

  52. mickydidit89 says:

    and upwards

  53. VP of Oz says:

Great result however we need clean sheets against these teams.

    For RA
Sydney in Australia is often the first big city to ring in the new year with a fantastic fireworks display – but last night it got things terribly wrong.
More than 1.5 million people were thronged in the city’s harbour to count down to midnight, but come the moment itself the wrong message was beamed on to Sydney Habour Bridge.
The sign proclaimed: “Happy New Year 2018!”

  54. fred1266 says:

Someone correct me if am wrong but we don’t seem to be pressing any more and are we still trying to pass it from the back seen a lot of long kicks from leno

  55. chas says:

I’ve already knocked up a sketchy match report but thought I might as well use LBG’s ‘man at the stadium’ version as well.
    Double Bubble.
I didn’t really watch the game so mine is a little more forgiving!!!!!!

    Hope you don’t mind, LBG.

  56. LBG says:

Sky followers can watch the whole game as it the Game of the Day, and disagree with me completely. I will watch again tomorrow and see more/different and try to defend my standpoint afterwards.

  57. LBG says:

    No problem at all, Chas.

  58. chas says:

The game was hanging in the balance in the second half after Aboubakar Kamara’s goal had pegged us back to 2-1. And some fans voiced their disapproval at the removal of a striker who had already scored for us.

Unai’s decision was soon vindicated when Ramsey restored our two-goal lead before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wrapped up a 4-1 win. And after the game our head coach explained the tactical thinking behind the change.

“Tactically, we were thinking that in that moment we needed to change to get more balance,” he said.

“Above all else, we know [Fulham midfielder] Jean Michael Seri very well and we needed to get a player close to him, to not let him play with the ball very easily. When Aaron Ramsey came onto the pitch, he could do that and can also help us in attacking moments – and he scored.

“The reason for the decision was this and I need to do my work. Every supporter can think different things tactically, but for me today, Lacazette worked very well, scored and he helped us. His reaction was very positive.”

  59. LBG says:

Iwobi was useless in any balanced way. Sometimes it is about keeping the players on who are motivated and useful. Bring Ramsey on, keep Laca on.
