French fizz and Uruguayan grit plus Third Sunday treats

France v Argentina had everything you could hope from a knockout game. The lead changing hands, magnificent goals and probably the right result in the end.

Uruguay v Portugal had a difficult task to live up to such shimmering brilliance. The Cavani goal on the back of the most glorious ‘one two’ came exceedingly close.  One things for sure, Uruguay will be difficult to beat. I keep expecting Simeone to be their manager.

On to today….

Spain should be too strong for the hosts unless that home advantage proves to be a following wind blowing the Russians to victory.

Again, Eddie and VP’s Croatia should have too much quality for the Danes, whose great journey seems destined to end here.

  1. Big Raddy says:

    Thanks Chas.

I abrogate all responsibility for posts until my return early August.

By which time France will have won the WC and Emery will have molded a PL winning squad

  2. Big Raddy says:

    Kon nu Danmark.

Vi er røde, Vi er hvide
Vi står sammen,, side om side

  3. chas says:

    BR
what chance do you give the mighty Danes as a percentage?

  4. Big Raddy says:

    25% or less.

    Cheerio

    Happy Sailing

  8. mickydidit89 says:

    Bye Erik, happy hols

    Ahoy Chas
Pavard goal, best so far for you too?

I don’t have same level of expectation for today’s games as I did for Fr Arg, but you never know

  9. Eddie says:

    gubi se Danska!!

  10. Eddie says:

i thought Mbabe’s goal yesterday were both outstanding. Mind you, there were so many

I am sad that Argentina and Portugal are gone, and France and Urugway remain. I’d much rather it was the other way round.

  11. chas says:

I love the Rosickyesque nature of this beauty

  12. Eddie says:

yes, Nacho’s goal was unbelievable. How did he kick it with that side of his foot? Was it a fluke or an amazing technique?

  13. VP of Oz says:

    0%

with Portugal gone, my prediction of a Portugal Croatia final seems less likely, not unlikely just less likely

  14. VP of Oz says:

Eddie, we would say, Danmark će izgubiti

  15. Eddie says:

VP – forget it. I think it might be us against Brazil

  16. fred1266 says:

Actually expect Spain to lose today they haven’t been great thus far in the competition

And needing a dubious goal to get them qualified

  17. fred1266 says:

Surely no goal was better than Xhaka goal

  18. mickydidit89 says:

    Thanks for goals Chas
there have been some crackers for sure

  19. chas says:

    Best Arsenal goal, Freddie-baby.
The Serb player ducking out of the way spoilt it a touch for me. Though he would have been knocked out if it had caught him in the face. 🙂

  20. mickydidit89 says:

Ok, nice call Fred. I never saw that one

Right, we have a 40mm rain downpour alert. Would be nice for me trees and bushes and force me to watch football all day. Again.

Blimey, in 25yrs, I ve never seen Devon so dry and scorched. Barely a dribble left in the rivers

  21. mickydidit89 says:

All change. PM footie off. Surfing on. Happy day ahead. Back for Croatia Denmark

Have nice days one and all

  22. LBG says:

Spain, like Argentina ( and too often like last season’s Arse) pass, pass, pass, and little end product. Mr Emery please find a way to produce “dynamic” final balls……and convince Jack he could stay.

  23. mickydidit89 says:

    1-1 eh

  24. mickydidit89 says:

In the absence of Eddie, I hope the Russkies win

  25. mickydidit89 says:

How is Liam coping with the heat?

  26. mickydidit89 says:

Actually, I think I’d rather Spain win as they are capable of great football especially if they go a goal down

  27. LBG says:

Hope our new CBs are as good as the Russian ones.

  28. mickydidit89 says:

I think we may already have better than we think, just better drilling, although not saying I don’t think one new expert wouldn’t go amiss

  29. mickydidit89 says:

mmm, brown envelopes in the VAR room it is then

  30. Eddie says:

    penalties at long last

    DidIt?

  31. mickydidit89 says:

    yip love ’em

  32. LBG says:

Golovin is worth whatever it costs, in my opinion.

  33. mickydidit89 says:

    wow

  34. mickydidit89 says:

    great save for sure

  35. chas says:

Excellent result after a shite game.
    Spain are tediousness personified.

  36. mickydidit89 says:

    Chas
You should see me chart!!! Tatters works.
Remember me bragging about getting the last 2 and winner right last time, and you saying it isn’t hard as only four teams can win, well, wow

Germany, Spain and Argentina out before the quarters

The England half of the draw has Russia, Swe, Swz, Den, Col and Croatia

  37. fred1266 says:

    This guy is a genius

  38. fred1266 says:

    That Spain of old micky

  39. fred1266 says:

I find golovin had a poor one today

  40. mickydidit89 says:

    Fred
I have NOT got it right,
    I had Germany Brazil final
then went for Spain once the Germans were out
    I now quit

  41. Eddie says:

didit – become a Croat like me

  42. fred1266 says:

They going home next round Eddie

  43. Eddie says:

    pee off freddie

  44. fred1266 says:

The VAR room for that penalty decision https://t.co/wI6iXhVpfx

  45. fred1266 says:

De Gea has as many saves in this WC as Suarez did in 2010

  46. mickydidit89 says:

Late to this one as well
If crowd is anything to go by I haven’t missed much

  47. chas says:

    Fredster
How do you earn a crust in Trinidad?
    Football analyst?

  48. chas says:

From what I’ve seen, Micky, it’s been pretty tedious.

Mandzukic has been a complete shithousing nobhead, the rest has been two teams largely cancelling each other out, Stoke versus West Bromwich style.

We were spoilt yesterday, that’s the problem.

  49. mickydidit89 says:

    Stoke WBA
Oh crap and I bought a ticket for the second half, let’s hope it doesn’t go to extra time

  50. mickydidit89 says:

    minnows 🙄

  51. mickydidit89 says:

    ha ha ha Fred

    Just seen your VAR room

Funnily enough I was thinking what message was being transmitted to the ref through his ear piece

“remember that £2k a night hooker you were drooling over in the hotel last night? Yours 24/7 for a month. Free. No pen, ok”

  52. Eddie says:

is this a boring game, or I am losing concentration again

  53. Eddie says:

halle bloody luya, what a shit game that was

extra time? No thank you, i am off

  54. fred1266 says:

    Crust chas?

  55. fred1266 says:

Yea they should have ended the game after the 2 goals and go straight to penalties

  56. fred1266 says:

Eriksen playing worse than mesut and sure he isn’t going to get any type of crytism

  57. fred1266 says:

Boring Eddie, trying to figure out which one more boring this or the game before

  58. mickydidit89 says:

    At last, some quality action

  59. mickydidit89 says:

    Fred
I think Mesut created more clear chances for his team than any other player so far

loved the way Caspar schmeikel dummied right, then went left to save

  60. mickydidit89 says:

    Nice for VP
Erik, you still have your proper country left

  61. fred1266 says:

Yea that what I meant micky mesut created chances and was criticised but eriksen did nothing and no criticism

  62. mickydidit89 says:

    cool fred

  63. VP of Oz says:

Certain goal to win it snuffed out with a professional foul
    Goalkeepers loomed large
Schmeicel ended up saving 3 penalties and goes home
Subasic saves 3 penalties and onwards
The drama around Modric taking his 2nd penalty
    Exciting start
    Exciting finish
    time for breakfast in between
    Croatia WIN!

what more can you ask for in a world cup game

  64. fred1266 says:

you know how world cup 98 was in france right… you know Dida was there right.. you know Dida was fucking bitches right? you know Mbappe was born in 98 right.. https://t.co/TxWP0eoqmj

  65. chas says:

    NEW POST

  66. Eddie says:

we won?? excellent!! I had fallen asleep, bloody boring Danes, I told you about them. They get excited about windmills, that’s all there is to them
