VAR is a shambles and Groups C and D reach a frisson

So, VAR makes a mockery of Group B and consequently the Round of 16 first games decided look like this…….

On to today………..

If France beat the Danes, Australia have a sniff at qualification from Group C.

Assuming Croatia beat Iceland, the Nigeria v Argentina game becomes a one game shoot out (though Nigeria will qualify if it ends as a draw).

    Thanks Chas

Like having the decided knockout stage graphic as well, thanks

Russia ’18 is so much better than Brasil or S Africa and it’s such a shame they’ll be adding so many more shite teams to the next one

Today looks really tasty, and Aus could easily qualify. Assuming France do beat Denmark and Aus win, at the very least GD will be leve

    Eddie The Croat….that works

  2. mickydidit89 says:

Ahem…why would Croatia bother beating Iceland as with their +5 GD, they’ll be topping the group.

I have a nasty feeling Iceland will win

  3. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All,

    Hoping for a Scandi-day.

VAR gets me spitting mad. Run by a bunch of dunderheads, all wearing new gold Rolex’s with a couple of Russian ladies-of-the-night waiting for them at their hotel rooms.

  4. Eddie says:

raddy @8:05 – I don’t understand. It was the thicko ref who was checking VAR every few minutes and it was him who was making wrong decisions

  5. Eddie says:

micky – we, the Croatians want our team to win every game, come on Hrvatska

  6. mickydidit89 says:

    Eddie
I followed your conversation yesterday and couldn’t understand why you needed to ask the question as you’ve already stated the liking for Croatia and Argentina

  7. Eddie says:

    because I forgot :):)

but now I remember, I am Croatian

I told you about iranians, how horrid were they yesterday? Very, very horrid. The game was completely ruined by VAR, wrong decisions, cheating and crazy result.

I am actually beginning to suspect that VAR can lead to more cheating. Those arabs kept asking for reviewing every time they were touched by the portugese clearly wanting to have Ronaldo sent off.

The intervals when the ref was looking at the screen, the uncertainty on players’ faces were simply wrong. I don’t want VAR, it is worse than the old system

  8. RC78 says:

am hoping that Nigeria will go through – it would be nice to see an African team in the next round.

also – Lucas Torreira had a great game for Uruguay as DM

  9. RC78 says:

Spain took their corner from the wrong side – should the goal have been disallowed then?

The ref of the other match is just protecting Spain – twice already he is messing up. He should be sent home

  10. mickydidit89 says:

    RC

So is Torreira better than anyone we have as a DM (not that I think we currently have a dedicated DM)?

Re Nigeria: speaking as Iwobi’s Mum, naturally I’d like to see my boy through to the knockout stages, although I’d like to see Argentina and Croatia go through also. Problem with a group of death

  11. RC78 says:

If he can keep his level of performance in the EPL than Torreira is better at getting the ball back than anyone in our squad.

    Potential Last 16:

    Portugal – Uruguay
    Spain – Russia

    France – Nigeria
    Croatia – Denmark

    Mexico – Switzerland
    Germany – Brazil

    Columbia – England
    Japan – Belgium

    But don’t count out a France – Argentina either and a Senegal-England

  12. mickydidit89 says:

    Tasty, very tasty

Apart from VAR obviously (sarky), why is it so much better than the previous two world cups?

  13. RC78 says:

I think except a few excetions, teams have opened up the play so you can see positive football, which is nice

  14. VP of Oz says:

All the Aussie Croats are expecting a comfortable win by Iceland.
Ive been told by unreliable sources that the whole defensive line is being rested and the bench players are going to get a run.
I think all Croats would be proud to be responsible for Argentina being sent home. Also they ensure they dont meet them again.

  15. VP of Oz says:

What are the Polish Croats saying Eddie?

  16. Eddie says:

VP – I am the only polish croat that I know and I say we beat Iceland convincingly by say 2 or 3 goals min

  17. Eddie says:

but I don’t want messi to go home

  18. VP of Oz says:

    thats feasable

  19. VP of Oz says:

you realise that if the argies go home, Messi will quit again. I think the team realises this and thats why they can’t play with him. They might play better without him in the team

  20. VP of Oz says:

    A bit racist commentary above…

  21. fred1266 says:

    Come on Nigeria

  22. Big Raddy says:

    Great stat.

Peter Schmeichel was in goal 20 years ago today playing for Denmark against France in the WC needing to win. His son repeats it this afternoon.

  23. Big Raddy says:

    Kom Nu Danmark!!!

  24. mickydidit89 says:

    Ollie is playing
(well, you know what I mean 🙂 )

  25. mickydidit89 says:

They’re showing Fr Den game on telly here. Hope it’s Arg Nig tonight

  26. RC78 says:

Messi is a legend and arguably one of the best players ever
The team needs to be built around him
The coaches are not finding the right balance

Dybala, Messi and Aguero should play up front

So you play 3-4-3 to accomodate these players. Dybala and Aguero can do the defensive work as well.

  27. fred1266 says:

Chas have u ever went to a WC

  28. fred1266 says:

When will VAR be implemented in prem

  29. Big Raddy says:

fred. Not next season and hopefully never

  30. chas says:

  34. chas says:

Looks like a concert with crowd but is a mechanical cotton picking machine taken at nighttime.

  35. Big Raddy says:

I thought it was a Depeche Mode concert! (not really)

  36. Eddie says:

what is that i hear about Danes killing football today?

Worst game in the history of the tournament? Is that true?

  37. chas says:

Are you suggesting I might have been to a Depeche Mode concert? Bloody cheek!

  38. Eddie says:

lovely little film about Messi, some brilliant clips when he was just a little boy playing better at 8 then Iwobi at 22

  39. Big Raddy says:

    Come on Nigeria.

  40. fred1266 says:

Taking the one at the end

  41. Eddie says:

what do argies have to do to stay? win of course, but how many goals?

Aguero benched for leading a revolt against the div manager

  42. Big Raddy says:

6.48. :-D. They are the nancy boys NIN

  43. fred1266 says:

    Yea Eddie horrible game

  44. Big Raddy says:

    SA Messi vs African Messi.

  45. mickydidit89 says:

Gutted as can only watch first half of this so let’s crack on with the goals please

  46. Eddie says:

i guessed by raddy’s silence on the subject 🙂

come on Argentina, we need you in this competition!!!

  47. mickydidit89 says:

Just hope Iceland lose so that one of these two can qualify

  48. Big Raddy says:

Damn. Iwobi not playing, might as well watch the dull Iceland team

  49. Big Raddy says:

Denmark were crap because we are a tiny country which punches well above it’s weight, France however …

  50. Eddie says:

    yeeeeaaahhh

  51. mickydidit89 says:

    great goal
    we want more

  52. Big Raddy says:

    He’s quite good, isn’t he?

  53. mickydidit89 says:

    yes 🙂

  54. VP of Oz says:

croatia have made 9 changes to their starting 11

  55. mickydidit89 says:

    That is bad news VP
    Argies may need more goals

  56. chas says:

Wouldn’t it be just terrible if Iceland qualify?

  57. mickydidit89 says:

    yip
    kick and run minnows 🙂

  58. chas says:

Just showed Zanetti on the big screen.
    Here’s my favourite Zanetti moment……. 🙂

  59. VP of Oz says:

If Arg win 2:0 and Iceland win 1:0, then it will come down to yellow and red cards.
Anyone know how that scenario will play out

  60. mickydidit89 says:

Minnow fans are going to love the next world cup with Brasil against the Faroe Islands 🙄 🙂

  61. Eddie says:

    time to unleash Iwobi

  62. fred1266 says:

    No It wouldn’t be

  63. mickydidit89 says:

damn Messi is good to watch and I have to go
    bugger

  64. chas says:

Looks like other things come into play first.

  65. fred1266 says:

    Brazil against Trinidad micky

  66. chas says:

Oh shit, Argies v Iceland was 1-1.

No idea about the disciplinary points accrued.

  67. chas says:

Drawing lots, yeah right, that sounds eminently sensible. Fuck off.

  68. chas says:

I’m almost hoping Iceland score to force Argentina to go up a level.

  69. chas says:

    Holy shit.

  70. chas says:

Someone feels hands on them and falls over.
    VAR is absolute nonsense.

  71. Big Raddy says:

It really is ruining the WC

  72. chas says:

There are too many poxy penalties in the game already.
    VAR has doubled them.

  73. Eddie says:

    iwobi on 🙂

  74. chas says:

  75. chas says:

  76. chas says:

    More Diego……

  77. chas says:

  78. RC78 says:
