May 2010 – A Team Chasing Shadows

Sadly, I remember London saying how difficult it was to write the match report after the 2nd defeat by the chavs earlier this season.  Yesterday’s game is not deserving of a match report – if someone else wrote one I probably wouldn’t read it –  and as a result of that poor display, I’m going to have to wrap my Arsenal heart in cotton wool for a few weeks and probably not talk football as I’m not sure that I can make any sense of the last three defeats we’ve suffered.

In all three games against the spuds, Wigan and Blackburn there was a team wearing the red and white of Arsenal but they didn’t seem to be Arsenal footballers. Obviously they were getting paid to be Arsenal footballers but somehow they didn’t really know what they should be doing. They were, by and large, a collection of not very good footballers who weren’t trying very hard to play the Arsenal way. A couple of exceptions in van Persie and Sol Campbell who seemed to be the only Gooners on the pitch yesterday.

Why is this Arsène? When the Carling Cup team of 1st team elect players comes up against a premiership side they pull out all the stops and play with freedom and no fear. Some will argue that yesterday’s team was part Carling Cup team of old and possibly it was but where was the passion? where was the desire? It was embarrassing to watch.

Arsène complained about the pitch, complained about the treatment that was metered out to Fabianski, complained that we could have had a penalty. Blackburn’s captain Samba stood head and shoulders above  everyone in our penalty area – why was our goal-keeper muscled out of the way, why was he sitting in his goal when Samba headed home the winner? Because he’s not big enough and not strong enough. Arsène, if you think that we can go another campaign without a world class goal keeper then I’m sorry for you because you must have contracted a very strange illness that stops you seeing what thousands of Gooners see.

Most of us accept that a player can have an off day, that players returning from injury are not going to be sharp or match fit but at least if they try, if we can see that they want it, that they’re disappointed for the team when things go badly then on the whole we’ll be forgiving. A defeat is always hard to accept but yesterday’s game wasn’t even two teams competing. We are pale shadows of the Arsenal team that existed 6 years ago and the small nimble players we have now cannot compete against the big lumps of Blackburn or figure in the ranks of most other Premiership sides.

When we come up against a team that wants it more than us we have no answer and no bottle for the fight. Our ‘clever passing football’ appears incapable of penetrating a 10-man defence and no-one seems to have the ability/desire/confidence to shoot from outside the box.

We looked like a team of school boys out there yesterday, no sophistication, no slick passing game and no ideas. Your put these players in Arsenal shirts, you have shown faith in their abilities but when are you going to admit that they aren’t capable of repaying your, or our patience? Sometime soon please Arsène.

  1. Morning all

I know I said I wasn’t going to moan anymore but yesterdays appalling display has made it impossible to just look forward to next season.

It was embarrassing watching that match – really I should have turned it off but I don’t approve of running away as in the past we’ve often been able to drag something out of a game late on.

I’ll be very surprised if Arshavin is still here in July – he couldn’t have looked like it mattered less to him.

Well said peaches. I left my comments on the previous post. maybe the words you are looking for with regards to arsene is a form of ;).

off to vent my anger on the bowling green, (it can be done )

    Nail-Head-Firmly Hit,

Thought id have calmed down a bit since yesterday but not a chance im still fuming and i best not write whats in my head 🙂 !!!!

And if i have to listen to one more Interview with our great leader in which he blames everything from the weather to the nasty big physical men i will scream,

These players do not deserve to be defended they dont give a monkeys,

  4. Morning kelsey and chippy

The need to be polite often negates the force behind my comments but I don’t want to hear about how its all going to be better next season because at the moment I don’t believe it.

    Good luck kelsey

After the last game against Fulham, ONE-BY-ONE the team AND Wenger should hang their heads in shame, take the microphone and collectively apologize to the supporters for an embarrassing season performance!

    SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!!!!!

  6. andy's avatar andy says:

I must admit that i didnt see any of the game but in a sadistic kind of way i’m glad of the result. Something very dramatic needs to happen before AW or the board or whoever is in charge of the transfer fund needs to wake up and see what not just arsenal fans can see but even the most useless of managers is now seeing and exploiting. We are small weak one-dimensional clones who play exactly the same whatever else is happening on the pitch and unfortunately AW can do nothing but sit on the bench thinking up excuses.

  7. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Morning all,

A brave and accurate post peaches. We’ve been a bit too ‘comfortable’ on here recently … I repeat the phrase from my recent post, it’s not acceptable to proffer the argument “believe, because belief is all that is necessary”

Belief is borne of results and success. We cannot claim belief after recent performances and anyone (manager included) who asks us simply to ‘trust’ is being unrealistic and failing to address the problems.

  8. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Morning all – doesn’t look too good does it right now? Barring Sol & Robin, no one else seemed to care and even those just playing for world cup squad places (Nasri, Theo etc..)have given up the ghost on that too. Sad to see but I’m beginning to feel perhaps Wenger’s time is up. He has just the summer transfer window left to change my mind but the initial comments coming from him don’t bode well, e.g. he’s back pedalling on buying a proper goalie.

  9. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Morning chary, I said the same yesterday. Once he’s made his mind up about something, he tends to drop hints for weeks in advance, and I’m reading that into some of his recent comments. Reading between the lines, I’m not sure he wants to sign a No.1 GK or a new CB.

  10. chippy's avatar chippy says:

    andy,
I was kinda thinking along the same lines it seems for the last few years we have been like a dam thats about to burst but Wenger keeps managing to plug the gaps with a bit of sticky tape but this last month is like the whole lot have let go at the same time and we are pissing water through many many many holes and there is no way of plugging them all,

If we would have say got 3 more wins Wenger and the Board could have sold Next Season again this summer but now they carnt so it could prove to be a good thing in the long run short term pain for long term gain,

Hey im trying to look for positives 🙂

  11. Morning chary – how scary is that that he’s already saying he may not be looking for a goalkeeper?

It’ll be a wake at the S+B on sunday 😉

  12. tommystout's avatar tommystout says:

morning all, and well said in the post peaches, that must have been difficult to write.
I thought vela and traore would have been busting a gut to impress yesterday with their lack of starts but like the majority of their teammates they played like pussies.
I felt sorry for fab2, he’s too small and got to go. This will always be a tactic wielded at fabianski in this league, good luck elsewhere.
We need a big goalkeeper and a keownesque centrehalf who can deal with these thug teams. I hope clichy’s absence was genuine yesterday, with AA eloping i dont wnt to see our whole left side in ruin.
i think this kind of football that we try to play could work with stronger (physiacal & psychological)personell, but we are screaming out for small changes to the system, shoot shoot shoot.

  13. andy's avatar andy says:

Lets change the rules Arsene. Nobody is allowed to play unless they are less than 6ft tall. Nobody is allowed in the six yard box. Players are not allowed to be closer than 3ft from another player at any time. Any others that might help us win ?

  14. andy's avatar andy says:

oh.. and only 1 midfielder is allowed to help the defence at any one time.

  15. If we’re not winning we get unlimited extra time until we score – oh the mancs already play by that rule 🙂

  16. andy's avatar andy says:

sorry… I must keep telling myself. I AM AN ARSENAL SUPPORTER, I AM AN ARSENAL SUPPORTER

  17. andy's avatar andy says:

    Haha good 1 peaches

  18. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Raspers, I hoping against hope that he’s trying to bluff us and he really is going to address the obvious failing in our first 11, but like you I feel he’s just preparing us for “I believe in our goalkeepers” come pre season.
Peachy – I think it will be a fairly deflating experience on Sunday so even though I’m always sad at not being able to go to a game part of me feels less unhappy at missing out.

  19. chary – lots of Peronis required I reckon 😉

  20. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

The majority of teams (probably all of them) have, on average, bigger stronger players than ours – it’s the reality of playing in the most physical league in the world.

All, repeat all, the teams in the prem know the tactic to employ to negate our style of football, and they also know we haven’t the personnel or the gameplan to do anything about it.

  21. Rocky Lives's avatar Rocky Lives says:

Peaches, you couldn’t have put it better.
Who would have thought we could put in a performance even more embarrassing than the Wigan collapse?
Defeat against Fulham is a real possibility – so we’re relying on Citeh not losing to the Spuds to keep our third place. That’s a pretty woeful state of affairs.
Does anyone else feel there might be a backlash from the crowd on Sunday?

  22. Brigham's avatar Brigham says:

Yesterdays performance, or rather, lack of it was embarrassing and in many ways humiliating. I cannot remember the last time I witnessed an Arsenal side who could not even be bothered to go through the motions, let alone try. Only Van Persie and Sol came out of that with any dignity.

As for Wenger and his usual pathetic comments about ‘roughing us up.’ You are a fool Arsene and Blackburn did not rough you up, they just wanted it more, tried harder and wanted to actually win the game. The keeper or whoever that fool in the yellow shirt actually was, was not roughed up, fouled or even pushed. He is just bloody useless, just like the other idiots who stand between the posts.

Arsene, I am sick of your blindess, your excuses and the fact you have lost the plot the last few months.

I shall be there on Sunday, but I will tell you this, it will be to have a few beers with my Arsenal supporting mates, hoping that we can win and secure 3rd place. But knowing you are the team right now, I would not be surprised to find us overtaken by that lot up the road.

I really am so angry with Wenger and the team this morning and to think we had the supposedly easier run in? Major clear out required and can anyone tell me exactly what Pat Rice does?!?!

  23. andy's avatar andy says:

I’m just watching that gibbering idiot Sam on SSnews chuffed with himself for exposing Arsenal weaknesses. If even Sam can see it why cant you ARSENE

  24. Thanks Rocky

Morning Brigham – I’ll be there too and certainly the only way to get through the afternoon will be to have a few.

The final game last season was overshadowed by the hatred of the Lazyone who amazingly took part in the lap of honour after the game. I suppose if there were significant numbers of empty seats it would show something.

  25. andy – Sam has always been able to send his teams out to ‘play’ against us – big lads, set pieces and a cowering Arsenal defense

  26. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Apparently Buffon has said he wants to come to the prem – zero chance we’ll sign him, most likely end up at manu.

  27. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Apparently Coyle wants Wilshere to stay at Bolton – I’m sure he does! We should get him back because he is a tenacious little battler unlike some of the others who, to quote Mark Twain, “don’t have the spunk of a rabbit”.

  28. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Morning Brigham,

Pat Rice does exactly what Arsène wants him to do …. occupy the post of assistant manager as a token role but not attempt to have any input into team matters as he has refused to take any footballing advice since David Dein left.

  29. Rasputin – someone you know just told me about Buffon wanting to come to the prem – he sounds like just the sort of buy that would then keep a lot of fans quiet ……..

    ………like me 😉

  30. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

There is no way we would pay the asking price for Buffon peaches … you know that 😦

  31. chippy's avatar chippy says:

Unless Buffon has suddenly turned into a 5ft 6″ midget that weighs 10 stone soaked through, plays centre midfield or in the hole has an eye for a pass and who is also technically gifted theres no chance of us being interested 🙂 Unless of course hes free or under a mill,

  32. Brigham's avatar Brigham says:

    Morning Peaches and Ras,

My comment was intended as a bit ‘tongue-in-cheek’ and I think there are too many ‘yes’ men on the backroom staff.

Not a good day for us yesterday as I also watched our ladies lose the FA Cup Final to Everton 3-2 in the dying minutes.

Hopefully the Fulham team will have one eye on their cup final and give us an easy ride, because if they go for it, I think they could well beat us.

  33. Definitely too mnay yes men which is fine when its all going swimmingly well but when questions need to be asked or answered who poses them?

  34. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I see Arsène has ducked the ‘fans forum’ and Gazidis is taking his place. Apparently he was upset by the nature of the questions last year and flirted with RM as a result … probably all complete tosh … who knows?

  35. Psychic rasp – I was just going to mention the ‘fans forum’ 😉

  36. chippy's avatar chippy says:

    Peaches,Rasp,

If he was upset last year, not going this year is probably a wise move !!

Ive got a feeling this years will be a pretty heated exchange and some tough questions will need answering,

Can anyone seriously see Wenger at Madrid they sack managers for only winning the Title 🙂

  37. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Hi chippy,

I agree about RM, that was a red herring put out to try to warn people off criticising AW too heavily I think. As you and many have said, there will be no hiding place this year if he fails to reinforce the squad where necessary.

  38. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

A few things should be said to balance this negativity.

    1. Show me where AW said he was going to RM. They asked , he said No, as he has many times before.

    2. Only ONE player who started last night played in the first game of the season. We were playing a full strength Rovers with our reserves.

    3. For Arshavin to put in a shift, someone has to give him the ball.

    4. The last time I can recall an AFC manager listening to the fans resulted in the arrival of Kiwomya and Helder! Though on reflection they never listen to the fans.

    5. Anyone who thinks there will be a wholesale overhaul of the squad is delusional. I see a GK, CB and CF coming in, and at most 3 leaving.

    6. AW was right about the obstruction of Fab2. Any decent ref would stop that tactic which is why it is never seen elsewhere. Doesn’t happen to Shay Given, does it and he is smaller than Fab2.

    7. Fab2 made some excellent saves during the game.

    8. At the moment there is no eight…….

BTW. I too am pissed off about the collapse last night, but not surprised. However, it is a rare sunny day here and I need to keep a smile on my face.

  39. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Hi Raddy,

Please don’t fall into the trap of picking up on a minor detail (the RM rumour which I said was probably tosh) at the expense of losing focus on the fact that we cannot make excuses for yesterday. Arsène does himself no favours by moaning about the ref – Blackburn outfought us and showed more spirit and desire.

  40. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Maybe we did only have one player yesterday who started the first game of the season, but we had 5 that played in the 6:2 home win.

Diaby, AA, Sagna & RvP all started and Theo came on as a sub

  41. Let us really look into the game yesterday, until that blatant foul on our keeper, they had no chance of scoring, we were controlling that game, maybe no spectaculalry, but we were.

One CLEAR foul later, and it was a foul, why are we gooners now making exucses for blackburn? just look at the psychology of this nonesense.. through the bitter pill of fab2’s previouse misdemeanors, we are favouring a blatant elbow that stunted his momentum by 70% at least.

The laughable thing is, almost every goon blog is saying it was a foul on him… so should the uproar not be aimed at the ref? blackburn for illegal tactics that they got away with?

And why the hell is nobody discussing the blatant penalty for RVP? the sneaky spaniard got his man in the box just as he was unloading another left foot rocket into the bottom corner for 2-0

Why? WHY DO WE FOCUS ON THE WRONG THING?

  42. Gooners are guilty of a viscous spiralling cirlce of negativtiy aimed at our club.

    Will not get us anywhere.

  43. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    SfH,

Blackburn also should have been awarded a penalty. They were the better team and deserved to win the game. Sides should not be that fragile that they capitulate after a foul on the keeper. They did focus on the keeper because they knew he has a history of making mistakes. Fabianski’s overall performance was ok, but he was not strong enough when it mattered.

  44. Rasp, a foul is a foul, neither goal should have stood… unless you are in a undercover way advocating them so how… if you are not

you should be up in bloody arms at the way they got 2 sneaky goals.

i 100% promise you this much, the pyschology of a gooner works like this today

if that man in our goal yesterday was a £25m hugo llrois, and he was subjected to that and we lost 2-1

gooners would be going mental today AT the correct target.

    FACT

  45. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I see that all as a smokescreen for the fact that most of our players let themselves and the club down yesterday – for whatever reason, or whoever you choose to blame. If this had been an isolated result, I would have been more sympathetic, but it comes straight after the collapse against Wigan and several poor performances on the trot.

  46. Alfa's avatar Alfa says:

SfH, the fouls are debatable, but rarely given in the Prem. The right thing to focus on, as you put it, is why we let a team like Blackburn cross the ball so often anyway (and pretty good crosses on the whole), to large targetmen. Would you have been happier if Drogba had got on the end of the cross – they wouldn’t have needed to muscle Fab out of the way then?

We used to be a fast moving, attacking side that dominated teams up the pitch then sometimes the better teams would break away and have a good chance to score. Now we let teams like Blackburn and Stoke camp outside our penalty area.

And by the way, I’m not in the negative camp. I want AW to stay, I don’t want most of the squad to leave and I’m not devastated that we didn’t win anything again. But something seems to be going wrong (at half time recently for some reason) that means that we are surrendering. I could have coped with losing 5-4 to Blackburn if we had kept possession, broken down Blackburn, kept running, tried our best to defend up the pitch but they got 5 flukey goals through Fab mistakes etc.

  47. and alfa, i could have coped with blackburn winning 5-4 aswell

as long as they scored 5 legal goals

and please do not make excused for blatant illegal tactics, i dont want to hear ” oh but you go up there and you expect to have a fan or 2 murdered, you expect to be mugged for all your money, and you expect them to score 2 illegal goal without punishment, they have different lasw up there.

we were in control of that game, they never looked like scoring a LEGAL goal.

of course the team then got rattled going 2-1 down liek that.

  48. it is worth remembering that chav lost to wigan away, and drew at blackburn, as did manure who failed to score there.

  49. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

SfH – there’s no point banging on about the fouling – it’s what happens in the PL, refs don’t stop it consistently so you have to able to combat it in other ways (ie by developing more robustness). We play in a real league, not some kind of utopia where teams all play fairly and refs give all the fouls.

  50. RL – why stop banging on about it? i agree that on field fouls go unpunished

but what flmaing chance did we have of we had to play with a keeper who was going to be at an ILLEGAL disadvantage from every set piece?

this is crazy… no other team would have had a ref allow that against.

shay given is a little keeper, he gets so many fould against him when they try that shit on him

    our man?

  51. how many clear shots at goal did they have in open play?

without resorting to fouling our keeper and stopping him trying to do his job.. they would not have scored.

  52. i caned the team and the keeper when we RIGHTLY lost at wigan, that was shambolic

today is very different, its a shame most gooners cannot see that.

  53. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Good afternoon all, good to see so many happy gooners on parade. I haven’t gone missing (busy day today) but will not post any comment, not wishing to get embroiled with all this self Flagellation,

Later Rasp/Peaches will try to forward my reasoned thoughts for your consideration. Providing I can find the time among this family mayhem LOL

  54. chippy's avatar chippy says:

    SFH,
Your not Wenger are you 😉

  55. Brigham's avatar Brigham says:

SfH, whilst I can see your points regarding the ‘legality’ of those challenges, any keeper worth his salt would take out all in his path to get the ball. Unfortunately for us, our keepers seem totally inept at this and would rather stand still and get fouled or outjumped.

There is nothing in the rule books which say players are not allowed to stand in front of the keeper. How many times did teams do it to Lehmann, knowing he would lose his rag and maybe give away a penalty? (Spurs, April 2004 ring any bells?)

Just how many times do Arsenal have to play the likes of Blackburn, Hull, Wigan etc and have the flamming nous to formulate some sort of game plan to combat their tactics? I mean, its not like the first time we have ever played these teams is it?

The last few games in the league have been truly awful in many ways; lack of fight, pride to wear the shirt, poort tactics, half-hearted performances by many and these are just a few to moan about. Whatever happened to the Arsenal ‘never say die’ spirit?

I have a saying about Arsenal this season and its this…

“Watching Arsenal is like watching a Lesbian porno movie. Lovely to watch and enjoy, but lacking in any real penetration.”

  56. maxmize's avatar maxmize says:

    SFH
How many chances did we make?
You clearly see only one side of coin.

  57. Brigham's avatar Brigham says:

Chances are not goals though are they? You can put up as many stats as you like about possession etc, but unless the stat in the top left hand corner is in our favour I don’t give a monkeys.

  58. maxmize's avatar maxmize says:

thats what i say, we made less chances than opposition.
And people say we play attacking and attractive football.
But yesterday Blackburn played better than us , Because they have Men in squad rather than overrated young pussies.

  59. Brigham's avatar Brigham says:

That last comment of mine is not aimed at you maximize. 🙂

  60. will respond when i can guys, bit tied up after long bank hols.

right, brigham, bottom line, elbowing a keeper who is making a beeline to punch the ball away.. i dont care if the keeper is mike tyson.. he is stopped in his motion and fouled, easy to score against a grounded, onstructed keeper. rules are rules, we are the only team who this is allowed against.

watch as many games as you can this week, and count the number of ties such tactics from corners set peieces will result in a foul to the defneding team.

arsenal? up norf? more chance of me winning the lottery 3 weeks on the trot.

  61. Brigham's avatar Brigham says:

I will have another look at the highlights if I can, but all I saw was two Blackbum players stood in front of Flappy anski and him letting himself get blocked off. If there was an elbow, then yes, I agree with you and it should have been disallowed as foul play.

Rule number one for a goalkeeper ‘OWN YOUR BOX’

  62. chippy's avatar chippy says:

We havent played attractive football for months we play possesion football with no cut or thrust, People that say we are Barcelona light may well have a point until we enter the final third of the pitch we then become brentford light 😉

  63. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Does anyone know why when we had no game for 9 days, during that time we lose 3 players to injury? Namely Song, Bendtner & Rosicky. For the umpteenth time, you’ve got to wonder what the hell our fitness/training team are doing to our players. Did they have a deal with the Cameroon, Danish and Czech national manager to make sure they were rested up for the World Cup?(I’m joking by the way…I think)

  64. ooooh scary thought chary that we’d be doing favours to other International managers 😉

But I have to agree, if AW wanted to try out other players why not keep Eastmond in mid-field instead of using an underperforming Diaby AGAIN. What, if anything, had Eastmond done wrong?

  65. agreed, eastmond has been wonderful at DM every time i have seen him there.

diaby of all the players needed to be rested for yesterdays game.

  66. btw – Happy Brithday, Captain Cesc 😉

  67. 23 and into his peak years.

  68. Lots of possession and no scoring threat thats the football we’ve been playing. YOU CAN’T SCORE UNLESS YOU SHOOT.

Blackburn’s tactics were to bombard our weak goalkeeper, maybe a stronger keeper would have also been shaky under that sort of pressure but it was the tactic because Fabianski (and probably Almunia too had he played) don’t OWN THE BOX.

Thats the difference in my view.

  69. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

It’s beyond me why Eastmond was dropped Peachy; long gone are the days where a good performance kept you in the team, it smacks of favouritism to me.

  70. Whether it was a foul or not doesn’t really matter, the point of their tactic was to destabilise our keeper and it worked.

  71. lol, that is very funny peaches.

so to score 2 goals, with blatant fouls, is not the point?

    ok, got you.

wake up and smell the coffee please… you would not be saying that if we had a 25M keeper in the goal yesterday

you would be crying foul.. today you are not

so… are you making valid statements or not?

  72. If all we do is whinge on about referees decisions we’ll never get anywhere because AW has no control over those and sometimes they work against you and sometimes in your favour.

If you play as a team protecting each other, attacking and defending and working hard for each other then harsh as it maybe sometimes things will go against you. Thats life and you have to get on with it.

  73. chippy's avatar chippy says:

    SFH,
They were not blatant tho were they at most they were 50/50 and any self respecting keeper would be very dissapointed to have conceded them, A Top Top Keeper would have come and cleaned out everyone as Jens used to do,

  74. i accept that, but i do not accept gooners who hate fabianksi, coming out today defending balckburns dirty tactics.

    hypocritical beyond belief.

when we are winning, those tactics are out of order.

when we are losing, its ok for them to use those tactics.

gooners really are a class apart.

  75. If we had a £25m keeper in goal the whole team would defend better because he’d bloody well give them a bo**ocking if they didn’t.

  76. chippy – think about this carefullly.

    1. we won the game 3-2 yesterday

    2. we had lloris in goal

    3. they scored those 2 goals by fouling lloris

I dont expect you or others to be honest.. but deep down you know you would not today be making excuses for blackburn.

You hate for the manager, the club, the team, the goalie, certain players.. is rising to the fore and some of the silly statements and backiung of fat sam today is the most hypocritcal in goon blog history.

  77. Who’s defending Blackburns tactics? They exposed a weakness in the team – a weakness that shouldn’t be there if as a top 4 side we had a world class keeper.

  78. peaches – are 25m keepers immune from being elbowed?

  79. peaches they fouled him, and you are saying its ok

    100% hypocrite.

  80. peaches, i think you have a weakenss to having your throat slit, i think it might make you die.

so if i slit your throat… and you die

have i a defence in court??

I dont think theres to many that hate him in fact id say a higher percentage feel a bit sorry for him as he has proved he can be a very good shot stopper but it seems hes now got a mental problem on the big stage its happened to other players before and it will happen again i can honestly see him having a good carear at a club where not so much is expected, but to keep putting him through it when hes obviously not up to it is harmful to him and us,

  83. No they aren’t SH, read my comments. It still could have happened but had we posseseed a better keeper Sam wouldn’t have highlighted Fabianski as the weakness and so possibly wouldn’t have bombarded our box.

  84. Name one keeper in history who did NOT have a weakness for being elbowed in the head? 😆

    laughable

  85. peaches he was having a sound game, until he was fouled.

if you condone that, good for you.

but never ever moan about small team tactics again then.

  86. if he spilled shots, let in goals like porto or wigan YES blame him

    blame his weakenss

BUT yesterday his “weakness” was being elbowed in the head and not jumping when being held down

Wenger: Let’s finish the season on a high
    Dear Arsenal Supporter,

We are obviously all very disappointed to have lost at Blackburn on Monday evening.

Something has gone from our belief now we are no longer in the title race. We tried to do well at Blackburn but you can see that something is missing. That is the belief to go for something and that’s why I believe we have lost the last two games.

I thought it was a poor game on Monday and in my opinion there were fouls in the build-up to both Blackburn goals.

I don’t know if Blackburn targeted Lukasz Fabianski but he had no chance to go for the ball on the winning goal because he was pushed. The two players in front of him every time did not even watch the ball.

When it is a foul, calling a foul is enough protection for keepers and I am disappointed the referee let that happen. As a keeper, when you jump into the air and are unbalanced by a push, what can you do? It is a pity because I thought Fabianski had a good game.

I believe as well, we were unlucky because there was a clear penalty on Robin van Persie in the second half when the score was 1-1. But overall we were not at our best. The fact is that Blackburn defended well and they were sharper in the duels and in the fights than us. And then it becomes very difficult to win football games.

There is one game to go now, at home, so let’s finish the season on a high. We know that Tottenham can still catch us but we do not have to worry about them or Manchester City. We have to worry about us and finish the season well.

    Thanks for your support.

  88. i heard fulham got a player who does not like being kicked in the nuts

forget its against the rules to kick somebody in the nuts

lets win the game next wekeend by smashing him in the nuts every time

COME ON its a weakness in him.. lets target it

    😆

    1) We didnt win 3-2
    2) Where have i ever mentioned Lloris in any post

I dont expect you or others to be honest.. Classic

You hate for the manager, the club, the team, the goalie, certain players.. Absolutey Bollocks so i dont agree with you means that i hate everything and everyone thats top notch that is lol

  90. chippy – dont worry about it, if it made no sense, no matter what i say it wont in the future.

  97. chippy – you would be surprised but there are many out there who saw the blatant fouls against fab2.

    amazing as it might sound.

  98. and 100% of gooners would have seen them as fouls if we had won that game.

perspective has a funny way of chaning in defeat.

  99. chippy's avatar chippy says:

Apart of course from the one that really matters !!

As i say they were 50/50 at best some your get some you wont and unfortunatley we didnt but there was nothing stopping us from going up the other end and doing the same to Robinson who also looked shaky !

  100. plenty had written fab2 off before the game even started.

when he made good clean saves, showed a good pair of hands etc early in the game.. nobody wanted to know.

so was it any surprise that 2 clear fouls on him are being protected with

“he should be strong enough to get up and make saves when he has been elbowed in the head”

  101. because they would have been given as fould no doubt.

    that is the point.

as its us, its ok to attack our keeper

just watch a game today, and see how many times the keepr is protected from set pieces, just for a slight nudge.

our keeper could have been machine gunned yesterday and we still would not have got a foul.

While I am on, I will always respect anothers point of view, but in this case quite frankly you are making a meal of your case for fabianski, and at the same time, even though i believe you are 100% passionate about our club, you are getting so carried away about this, you are being disrespectful to, especially peaches.

  103. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

This whole focus on Fab2 is ridiculous. Goalies get fouled all the time – they expect to get nudge, barged, elbowed etc etc – it happens in every game and they should be trained in methods to deal with it. The GK is the most physical position on the pitch, that is why they need to big powerful b’stards. Fab2 is a bit too small and not aggressive or powerful enough to be a top flight keeper. Al is slightly taller but less stocky and equally lacking in power and aggression. It should be the opposition strikers who are afraid of getting clattered by the keeper not vice verse.

  104. kels you were quite vocal in your dipleasure in fab2 before the fouls yesterday.

did i expect you to cry foul when he we fouled?

i think you all get the points i am making, but the hate for fab2, the want for a new 25M keeper is preventing the real perspective.

and the next season, when we get outmuscled by a team up norf, and you lot cry foul

    i will bring this up.

  105. rasp they do, and they ge tthe foul given against them

    dont they?

    SFH,

the equaliser was always on.look at the defence and midfield we have got out. I could have scored vela’s miss.Where is nasri, diaby.yes blackburn are a bunch of thugs but they are playing on our weakness.very poor show.We need another goal because i am sure they will score again.

Campbell and RVP are excellent and Fab was doing great until the goal. traore is totally uncomfortable.

  108. is perfomrance was nowhere near as bad as some make out.

i agree with lack of heart in the team etc

but when we suddnely change our tune, because it fits our objective, and back dirty blatant tactics against us

it surprises me, but you do see real charachter in people.

you can’t have it one way, and then another when it suits your argument.

  109. how many times in the past have we pillories the walrus?

so why change the tune today of all days?

  110. why back his tactics, and in the past call them out of order?

that is my question.. and i have put it to the jury, that if we had a big money keeper in the goal who was subjected to that treatment… a different tune would be played today.

  111. there are 6 or 7 of you against me on this

at least one of you give me a reasonable answer to the points made above.

  112. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

SfH, maybe a better keeper would have prevented at least one of those goals, and more importantly, maybe we’d have a back four who played with a bit more confidence as a result of knowing that the keeper was reliuable and could look after himself. But again I say, its not all about the keeper, that’s just one of the areas that was exposed yesterday.

  113. can anybody name a keeper who is immune from being elbowed and held down when rising for a cross?

  114. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

SfH, surely if you think that there are 6 or 7 on here who have a differing opinion to yours, it would be logical (and democratic) to realise that you hold a minority view and therefore accept the situation.

  115. i accept of critiscim of the team lacking fight, defo 100%, we need a bastard or 2 in the team.

but when we go around defending illegal roughing up of our keeper by a fat same side… i have to LOL at the hyocrisy of it all

and nobody can answer me on that.

  116. sure got you rasp.

    i understand.

go with the flow.. follow the man in front… great point. 😉

  117. not one of you will give me an answer on the hypocrite slant.

    guaranteed.

you will twist it, to suit your argument, but deep down you must surely understand it.

  118. and the list of keepers who perform when being elbowed and held down illegally will be a good one to view later.

  119. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

SfH, your questions are clearly rhetorical. The nature of the way in which they are worded dictates that the answer has to be in agreement with your view – an old politician’s trick that we do not need to respond to 😉

  120. “we”?

    head down, follow….

  121. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I am happy to substitute ‘we’ for ‘I’, I prefer to consider the feelings of others on the site as I believe that is the right thing to do.

  122. rasp @416

you happy, in retrospect, with that post?

goes against what this was set up for?

  123. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I’m perfectly happy SfH, it reflects exactly what the site was set up for – friendly, no insults, all views welcome debate, I don’t see how you could interpret it differently.

I’m afraid your tendency to bulldoze others who you do not agree with doesn’t adhere to the same ethos.

  124. bulldoze?

i would have thought the 6 or 7 against 1 was the bulldozing.

“hold the minority view” so shut up and dont debate, we hate that, we prefer agreement.

i note not straight answer on why we can back big sam today but not previously?

    any ideas… anybody?

  125. none of you debated.

none of you told why its ok to use those tacticw which you ALL deplored months ago.. but now advocate to exploit a “weakness” in our side?

    why no answer?

  126. i presume you all backed fat sam in the past, and never moaned about his ruthless tactics in “exploiting soft arsenal” in the past?

    correct?

  127. SH – I think you’ve misinterpreted rasp @4.16. One should never go with the flow just because you’re in the minority but realise that you’ve debated the point and then move on.

You’re not going to change my mind. Blackburn bombarded Fabianski because they knew he was weak. The fact the there were fouls against him doesn’t change that situation. If points were given for fouls retrospectively then its worth banging on about it but they don’t. He was having a good game and a couple of times I was impressed when he stood his ground but the bombardment of our goal wasn’t small team tactics it was the tactic of a team that wanted to win the game.

Small team tactics that I abhore are those that target our players to try and put them out of the game – Cesc in particular has come in for a lot of that this season. That to me is unfair and he should get more protection but to rain balls at an opponents penalty area is football surely.

  128. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

You are missing the point SfH. We are no longer talking about the game or the goalkeeper. This is about the fact that you refuse to let others hold their opinion and just keep pounding away until they give up and just stop posting.

You and I are alone on the site now because you have made it an uncomfortavble place to be. That is not debating – it’s bullying!

You have stated that your site is not a discussion blog (forgive me if that is not an exact reproduction of your words). This has gone beyond a discussion and is verging on an argument and nobody wants that. This kind of ‘debate’ kills blogs and creates an aura of latent aggression found on other sites that we are seeking to avoid.

  129. rasp, have you been bullied?

i have been subjected to insults at times on this blog, have you ever stepped in?

    no

you even made the mistake of binning me once.

then when london came on and had a go, you decided to email me.

nice to see you thinking for yourself.

    well done.

there is a reason my blog is consistently in the top stories on newsnow for hits.. have a look right now.

i do not breed a place where mates can come and slap thereselves on the back.

come, make a point, whatever it is.. no censorship.

    you have lost conrol, again.

  130. peaches – roughing up and fouling the keeper are not small team tactics?

  131. SH – why did Blackburn bombard our goal?

Why were we unable to take control of the mid-field?

Why was David Dunn able to have a simple tap-in at the near post after three Arsenal players allowed the ball to go past them?

Why did Arshavin not get into the game?

Why aren’t Vela and Theo better?

You’re right there are lots of other points to debate but you wanted to debate the fouls on Fabianski – thats a lost cause, theres no future in it.

  132. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Sorry for not replying earlier but was a busy bunny and to be honest sfh I don’t really know what your after as you know my views I don’t think there was a lot in either challenge especially not as much as your implying and how that’s defending Fat Sam I don’t know, I tell you what I’ll look at them both again tonight and see if my views have changed on the subject.

  133. cheers, chippy, have a look and give an honest view.

most papers are saying they were fould aswell.. but then, like some on here, are saying its ok to foul if there is a weakness

    i dont get that bit.

  134. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Yes I have stepped in to defend you SfH.

You are a very bright guy and no-one can doubt your dedication to Arsenal, but you must accept that you have a history of conflict with other bloggers. I suspect that you rather enjoy the adrenalin of a good argument 🙄

Perhaps the vision of a site where we could avoid such problems was a fanciful pipedream. I am seriously considering giving up the effort and today may have helped make my mind up.

  135. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    SfH,

To answer your last point “you have lost control again” … I don’t want control of anything, perhaps you should read the ‘About AA’ tab again.

  136. rasp, pheraps i like vigourously defending my corner when i know i am in the right.

and come on, you are better than “onsidering giving up the effort”

why? we are all grown ups here?

we dont have to always pat each other on the back, debate, fierce debate is good.

it stokes interest, and it creates an sound board that can placate people and make them understand another view that is not being set by media manipulation.

  137. No-one ever said it was ok to foul the keeper – your point was that Fabianski was being slated and the goals weren’t his fault because he was fouled.

Its not Fabianskis fault that he’s not good enough and AW wants to play him. He was a good prospect a couple of years ago and he has showed that he can be a good keeper.

Diaby has shown that he can make an amazing contribution to our team but not consistantly. Arshavin has mouth watering skills but can’t be bothered to show them.

    The biggest question is WHY?

To be insulting because someone doesn’t hold the same view as you is pretty childish IMO.

  138. peaches i did agree with your other points about the team as a whole.

but for the life of me i cannot understand why we are no having a go at the illegal tactics… not tactics.. but illegal tactics emplyed against our goalie

    and illegally got them goals.

they did not score in open play against a defensive mistake etc.

    that is my point.

  139. peaches so you are equating “a poor keeper in your view” with its ok to foul him illegally?

come on that cannot make sense

and is my entire point, if he was 25M lloris and subjected to the same treatment a week after making world class saves and keeping a clean sheet

we would ALL be up in arms at his treatment yesterday

not one gooner would be saying it was ok to foul him cos of a weakness.

  140. sorry peaches can you post my insult please.

  141. I agree with you SH – their goals were scored as a result of illegal tactics.

  142. peaches where is the insult? what time

  143. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I believe peaches has had to go out SfH. I think she was referring to the inference that people who you judged to be defending ‘Fat Sam’ because they didn’t major on the foul on Fab2 were hypocrites and the fact that you also implied that I was a sheep without a mind of my own.

  144. calling somebody a hypocrite is not an insult, it’s a judgement call

calling somebosy a f&&&&ing bleep bleep bleep bleep hypocrite would be an insult.

  145. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I wouldn’t feel flattered if someone called me a hypocrite – hypocracy is not an admirable attribute.

  146. it not meant to flatter or insult rasp

but if somebody says one thing one day, and another, another day

    that is hypocritical

go back and read some posts before we played hull… how we all deplored such tactics, roughing up etc

    different tune today.

sorry, that is not an insult.

to tell it how it is, is far more truthful and honest than most can sometimes appreciate.

  147. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    SfH,

We’ve had these tactics employed against us for the last 3 or 4 years. The opposition are not going to change – it works for them. The Blackburn fans are ecstatic today. Isn’t it about time we developed strategies to counteract their tactics?

  148. yes, better players.

    but AGAIN

a 25M keeper cannot prevent himself from being elbowed or kept down by an ILLEGAL tactic.

fabianski, gordon banks, dino zoff, seaman whoever it may be.

  149. lets have a go at the real probs, certain outfield players not giving it.

i concur 100% with that and mentioned nasri, diaby and theo for doing little yesterday.

  150. was on twitter with john cross from the mirror last night

and he agreed with me that nasri is the ultimate super sub

he rarely plays well when starting

he rarely plays badly when on as a sub

  151. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

I think there’s a massive difference in crowding a goalkeeper and putting him under pressure than going out to seriously injure a player aka Taylor and shawcross and others that sickens me and is the reason I hate Fat Sam as his Bolton side at times stepped well over the line but i don’t think they did alot wrong yesterday in putting Fab under pressure it’s a proffesionsal sport and any slight weakness will be exploited, Weve got to learn to stand up to it and give it back if it costs us cards so be it but the more we moan and whine the more clubs will see it works, As I said earlier the best thing we could have done yesterday is gone up the other end and done exactly the same to highlight it an eye for an eye an all that 🙂

  152. chippy, agreed, you can put pressure on a keeper, that is allowed.

but an elbow in the head just as the keeper is rising for the ball is not allowed…i think.

  153. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Cool moving on works for me !!!!
He’s a strange one is Nasri as he dosent shirk let some others but dosent quite contribute in any sort of game winning way tbh I’m really not sure what to make of him as I can see a really good player but I’m not sure in what position,

I’m not sure but I think john Cross wrote an article today stating we must buy this summer or risk losing the likes of Fab tbh I can see that scenario and it’s scary!!!!

  154. oh we have defo got to buy, and i think the club will indeed spend big.

i think gooners are losing faith in that they have heard aw say this before, but he has never admitted to having the dosh in bundles to spend.

that is the difference for me this time round.

  155. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Hope so as I really think a few good signings would give both the existing players and also the fanbase a big lift and think that’s needed,

  156. stick in there chippy, the worst of having to cut back due to the emms/hig squ project is over.

we have the dosh to go back to the days when AW used to blend youth and experience.

  157. be thankful at least we have a foundation to grow upon.

that we can dream of big signings this summer and know we can get them.

that we have a lovely cash cow of a new home… others are not so lucky.

hatred seems to be the fashion right now, without any real substance.

  164. i see one of your gang is advocating a “protest march” 😆

    what a joke.

  165. The real reason i set up a blog?

So that i have time bord of my feelings in years to come, the web is a lifetime of storage.

I can come back to my blog in years to come, when every tom dick and harry is a gooner and in love with us and say… look back to those days in 09/10 and see what certain types of gooner back then could not forsee.

Even though it was all there before them.

The anger towards me today on here is so blatant, there were no insults.. only at me, i went against the common Gang mode and saw a different horizion.

I choose to see the positive in the keeper, and not an opposiing team that is managed by a man gooners usually hate.

Time always tells the real story. That is why a blog is a great time line of true feelings.. and great to come back to when one is trumpeting there love of the club when all is going swimmingly.

Only very few have the real foresight… many will claim it in the years to follow.

None more so than next year.

  166. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Evening all.

Yesterday, what the f**k was that…??

Spineless shower of shit that was. I just cannot for the life of me understand how players can go out and embarrass themselves like that.

The complete lack of intent to get back into the game was a complete and utter disgrace.

As you rightly mention Peaches, the lack of effort from those ‘being given a chance to shine’ was incredible.

To watch us swapping passes in our own half in injury time was gut wrenching.

Our lack of character and intensity yesterday far outweighed any negative input from the man in black, from the pitch, from Fat Sams tactics, or the unpunished ‘fouls’.

I can only give some credit to Sagna Sol, Silv and Diaby. Yeah Abou had some dodgy moments but he at least seemed to be trying.

RVP for me should have been shown screaming at his team to raise it and show some fight, and he loses some marks for that, even though he himself seemed up for a fight.

Blackburns size advantage?? I really couldn’t give a flying **** about that. How big was Dennis Wise, Claude Makelele..?? If you have enough fight in you and the right attitude it will carry you a long way. We had no fight and a piss poor attitude.

I’m not sure if I should feel sorry for Arsene cos his players let him down, or if he needs a kick up the arse and a home study course on motivating players. I suspect it might be the latter.

In summary….if all 11 players had honestly tried their hardest yesterday, then in spite of all the ‘grievances’ – some valid, some not, we would have won yesterday. To go down without a fight was absolutely criminal.

    Night all

It’s all a bit personal for me all this, and I assure you if you knew me you would realise i definitely don’t need it.

  169. when did you post on aclf?

i presmue the person who kept telling you to f off was Frank… that is his way, its stupid joke over there to tell people to f off, but its not usally meant in a nasty way unless you go over telling everybody that arsenal are a disgrace and a club in trouble.

You get nutters on there like most blogs.

But… do you not find that the vastly more intelligent fans always seem to frequent Pro AW sites?

the sleaze that crop up on the anti sites are shameful and i’m glad such pondlife migrate to those types of blogs.

is it any wonder that all the old skool bloggers hate them aswell? blogs, gilbetsilva etc

and to blog about a protest march against a club finishing 3rd is just beyond mind grating.

it requires locking up… in a mental home.

  170. kelsey's avatar kelsey says:

Oh another trait you have is to not directly reply to a point.you mention Yogi, i have the utmost respect for him as arseblog but i don’t agree with the majority of gooners comments on both sites.

don’t dare question my loyalty to arsenal. I was there in may 1966 with 4500 others watching us get hammered by Leeds. No glory hunting from me. Do I really need all this from you.just go away, please.

  171. i am still astounded at your swearing post, kels

    😆

utterly hillarious coming from a man with a racing backgorund.

lets open up a bit here… i have not “talked up” my background as much as you.. but i have a background in the city, and am more or less semi retired now.

whilst in the city, i had quite a number of large clients in the racing world, the man who owns kauto star being one of them.

since leaving the city, i now run a very private (and very closed!!) trading fund with 2 other guys, and a number of our clientele is from the racing world.

these guys swear MORE than any i have ever come across.

  172. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Are you for real ? Maybe you should set up a cult not a blog what a load of self centred rubbish, So what happens if next year is another mirror image of this one just like this year is a repeat of the last??

There’s now to many extremes in blog land this site and goonerholic are a nice releif from the more right and left sides of the fence so let’s keep the debates lively but not petty and personal,

Kelsey stick around I like your older stories and you never did tell me how could Your namesake actually was

  173. not calling you a glory hunter, that post, which struck a cord with you for some reason.. was NOT aimed at you

    hence it did not start

    Kels,

    OK!

  174. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

hello guys here you all are..ive missed you 😉

    well well well stringfellow dork

still see your hiding behind your keyboard..

nobodies advocating a march or a protest.

hit the club where it hurts, in the finances… silence and empty seats speaks volumes..no march, no insults, no banners, no slagging the manager..just dont turn up..

tells the club all they need to know.

as for the gk-any decent gk with any sort of presnce would have charged through that crowd and punched through the players to get the ball…and theyd still win the freekick such is the refs bias towards the modern gk

but no ref in their right mind will give a freekick to a gk who spends 90 minutes complaining and who falls into the back of his own net without even trying to get the ball

your defence of flapianski is admirable but if i agreed with you we’d both be wrong…dont forget also that arsenal have lost every game that fabianski has played in this season so the problems are deeper routed than the blackburn game…

no doubt you’ll go on your f word c word tirades but quite frankly i dont care…

  175. chippy – it cannot be, with an open chequebook, AW is the best manager by a stretch

my confidence comes from the club finally telling us, ACROSS THE BOARD, that we now have cash again.

  176. jonjon – why would you want to hit the club where it hurts?

is this not the club you tell us you support?

genius!!! more fans like you are needed, we would be unstoppable.

  177. kelsey's avatar kelsey says:

I am dyslexic but regard myself reasonably intelligent, but what that has to do with supporting Arsenal I am not sure.
How do you define intelligence ?

I can make £2.00 out of £1.00. have done many times, have a reasonable lkife style, a lovely family and fortunate to now live in a warm climate.

Something happened to me many years ago that changed my life forever, funnily enough directly related to being at Highbury, no money or intelligence can change that, yet I support the club through thick and thin and actually what was therapeutic for me is now being spoilt by the likes of you.

I think i should leave it at that, as actually it was bad enough watching that dross last night and you are the icing on the cake.

  178. i blame fab2 for the porto game, i blame him for the wigan game

i cannot blame him for yesterday

that is fundamental basis to my views.

this hurts many.. for a bizzare reason.

  179. lol at “here you all are”

this bog only started yesterday didn’t you know

    typical.

  180. congrats kels for sharing that with us

what has 2 quid into 1 got to do with owt?

you spolit it for me today.

    so we are square.

  181. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

    Hi JonJon,

Thanks for dropping in – I see you haven’t changed 😆

  182. rasp, but why did it take him so long to pop in? 😆

    i have a way.. always.

  183. time to exchange blog links chaps? 😆

    old acquiantences etc

  184. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

    Kelsey,
What sunny climate you now living in ? Must be hard to be away from the club you love I know I moan at times but at least I can always go when I want must be hard not to just get up and go if you so wish,?

  185. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    no SF

what the club dont need are fans who look to blame everything on every one else and not the real problems at hand..blame it on the sunshine blame it on the moonlight blame it on the boogie but dont blame the manager or the players hes assembled..

as long as the club think they can get away with it they will continue to do so..with the help of the fans who continue to believe the lies and the spin

  186. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

    SfH,

I’ve blogged with JJ many times in the past. I don’t agree with him on everyhing but he bleeds Arsenal and is passionate in his views. I have admired his efforts to get his point across in arenas that are hostile. I don’t agree with his view on AW but that won’t stop me being happy to blog with him.

  187. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    easy rasp..

    hows it going…enjoying the cricket??

  188. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Kelsey…

If Strings turning into your nemesis, just ignore him. You enjoy blogging, but not getting into argumemnts.

I’ve no clue how it has come to pass that you two should end up ‘debating’ acroos various sites, but there’ sno way on earth I’d waste my any time on someon who I basically had no time for.

No offence intended to you String, and as I say I’ve no idea how its come to all this, but I will say this….

There seems to be something about a lot of what you say, and the style in which you say it. You seem to enjoy being the ‘lone voice of reason’, and you’ve got this weird (imo) liking for six or seven unanswered posts in a row.

The guys have tried to create a friendly spirit here as antidote to the rabid polarisation often found on Arse blogs. I’m not sure if you intentionally want to spoil that, but that does seem to be the net result of your blogging here.

Thats just my two penneth, half uninformed for sure, but I can see it today, and I’ve seen it before.

I’ll read your response and might reply once or twice, but I will not be drawn into a long old merry go round of an argument.

  189. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Yes Rasp but jon jobs taste in music sounds horific 🙂

  190. thats the thing rasp, i’m surprised it took so long for the catch up.

JJ – the same lies as the ones i was convincing you about over a year ago? about 133M that the accounts told us needed paying off?

it was obvious we would struggle for a few years after the emms, you were told we would indeed challeng for players in time.. that time has now come.. this summer.

  191. good for you sharkey – i remember when you were the lone voice over on the pit.

    how times change, hey.

  192. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    im really not happy rasp

if you remember ealier in the season i was telling you we’d win the league..

what hurts me is the fact once we get beat by barca half the squad dont even turn up..our recent form is relegation material and its the lack of effortthats doing it..

we threw the towel in at spurs and we deserve more than that..

  193. i’m amazed at my ability to bring long last warring brothers together again today.

    like old times.

  194. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

The international cricket’s not going so well JJ, looks like Duckworth Lewis is going to knock England out of the World 20/20’s. I had my first game for the villagge team and was victorious – Raspno rises from the ashes 😛

  195. sharkey – what 6 or 7 please

i answer as many as poss, can you highlight them please.

its nice to follow the gang.

  196. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

    Chippy 😆 JonJon’s a post-punk baby so he’s not had a proper music education.

  197. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    sfh

i knew about that loan repayment its not about that

if we had little money toplay with why have we got a 120mil wage bill and why are we wasting money on kids when we can buy the real deal for the same price

theo cost 12 mill as did nasri…so i dont buy into the fact weve had no money at all..we have had money its just been wasted..

and this summer should be the summer we spend…but i have no faith wenger will…so he needs a push

  198. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

So String what your saying in a round about kinda of way is that Wenger lied to everyone last summer when he told all assembled that there was only 10 players in world football we couldn’t afford 😉 see he does tell porkies from time to time

  199. chippy what did he lie about?

    defo remember him making singings.

made team of the year no less.

JJ – i think AW might just be a little more the wiser than you when it comes to spending what money he has… he needs push? from you? even you got to larf at that one 😆

  200. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    i dont really undersatnd the 20 20 raspno 😉

theres not much chance of bowling a maiden over in this game.. 😉

i love listening to the commentry though..when you hear nick knight taking about length and coming in behind the wicket it makes cricket sound like a porno..

im also a daddy now by the way rasp..a beautiful bouncing baby girl

  201. Hey JonJon 😛

I’ve missed your lyrical injections. What a b*gger about our team eh – can’t believe they could’ve collapsed like that 😦

  202. was debating this 120 wage bill with peaches

would you rather we kept the bill at 100

and spent the 20 increase on 1 player.. and then his wages

or would you rather we did not have another flamini sitation and let 18 or so promising youngsters go into the final year with no contract

like merida who is off for nothing

    ?

  203. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

lol chippy..ive just caught on to the music thingy..

SF wengers a great manager and you’ll never hear me call him a c word

but he is a liar.. and he is stubborn..but like you i think if anything going to happen its this summer

i think we both agree some of his players lack the steel needed to win those silver thingys

talent in abundance but not enough grit.

  204. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

String 9.04 Pointless response, no answer from me on that one.

9.02 Not sure what your point is there. The ‘pit’ is another blog with a style never too much cared for, but I had two very quiet jobs back to back and it passed the time.

I very rarely got into long winded arguments with anyone over there cos I just can’t be arsed. If you followed ‘my work’ over there you’d know that.

Countles times I’d tell ‘him that runs it’ that if he doesnt want see that Songs a decent then I can’t make him.

I had a few pals over there who I clung to for dear life, but after a while you come to recognise that its full of imbeciles most nights, and there’s no wasting my time over there when my meters not running.

  205. of course i agree with that, i have said as much

certain players have let him down big time, no guts.

    never ever questioned that.

but thats the risk when gambling on kids.. you never quite know who they turn out.

things are now different, we can go back to mxing experienced players with youth.. back to the old AW way before the emms

that is what i keep baning on about.. relax, it will all be good.

  206. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Typinsons is back…no corrections offered !!

  207. fair enuff SS, but you can recall that feeling when you are a lone voice.. and even if you have merit in what you say

its far easier for a pack to stick together.

  208. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

Many congratulations JJ, ahh fatherhood, life will never be the same again … it’ll be much better, but you’ll be more tired and much poorer … but proud 🙂

  209. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    sfh

id rather have 11 top players on 80k a week than 22 mediocre ones on 40k..

  210. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Not at all he gets paid alot of money as he should but my point was you said we had no money fine my point was wenger said we did have money and there was only 10 players world wide we couldn’t afford his words so either A he was lying or B we did have money so either way he’s not so perfect agreed,

Rasp I’ve never heard of post punk let alone listened to it lol

  211. jj – unfortunately we need a squad, so your ideaolgy would not work.

  212. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

thats the wenger i want sfh

i fear though that he has become fixated with the current team and he cant turn it round

he needs to be ruthless this summer..

  213. what point are you trying to make with this 10 players thing chippy.. sorrt not with you?

did he say he was signing 5 players?

  214. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    sfh

    we have an academy

11 worldies with 11 of the best youngsters to back them up

we have the kids..we dont need anymore

    we need the worldie

  215. jj – why do you fear? when as you say you knew about the 133M?

if you knew he could not do mix them becaue he did not have all the moeny… but now the payment is made and he does

    why fear?

why not rejoice like me? knowing full well that there is not a better manager on earth when he can blend youth with experience.. backed with a decent kitty?

    why?

  216. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

No worrioes String but I was always careful not to make it look like I was enjoying being the lone voice too much.

Muy ‘big campaign’ over there was Alex Song who’d finished last season in fine form. Over the summer I gave him lots of praise for his improvemnt and stated that I hoped this would continue. I was very careful not to stand and scream from the rooftops that they were all mad, and that I was the lone voice of sanity/reason (even though I f***ing well was ..not to difficlt over there though ‘eh.

    Anyway, where was I…

Oh yeah Song, absolutely brilliant this season, and I wish I could have fotertld it more forcefully. Alas that was not to be ..simply because he has completely exceeded my expectations.

  217. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

Haha chippy, I just meant he was born after the mid 70’s so he has been brought up on insipid music (no offence JJ 😆 )

  218. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    hey legs… 😉

nice work on the blog by the way..

its been a difficult few weeks rasp..football has taken a back seat but we’ll get there in the end..

  219. i am sure there will be many more song type progressions to come.

  220. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Fair do’s re your responses to me this evening. You;ve taken my comments in completley the spirit in which they were intended, and I thank you for that.

Ps. Poor old Queen of Surburbia fighting the fight on her lonesome over their these days…good on her !!

  221. she is doing a sterling job SS, she is beacon of sense and class amongst a pack of jokers.

  222. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

im proud of what wenger has achieved im not stupid i know what weve managed to do

ive defended wenger many times and said hes the only man who coud have done what hes done

what i cant defend is a lack of heart and soul in the team
the manager has created this team..he plays them week in week out

alot of the situations like gk could have been avoided but he hasnt listened..

lets hope this summer he does

  223. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Jj yes don’t worry mate I haven’t been listening to your iPod it was just your choice of wording 🙂

Sharkey now I remember I think we conversed a few times and you were never on your own regarding song 😉 Im still trying to convert some of the non belivers but they are becoming fewer and fewer I’d move my attention onto Denilson but not even Jesus could convert his amount of detractors 🙂

  224. do you think his job might be easier this summer, jj?

now that he has money to spend!!!

  225. SH – we aren’t a ‘pack’ with regard to our Arsenal thoughts and you know that fully well. You’ve blogged with us long enough to know that we all hold different views and manage to express our points without taking ground off of each other.

Where we are a ‘pack’ is in our beliefs of how we want this blog to exist. You should have another look at the ‘About AA’ link at the top of the page and you’ll see that often you’ve overstepped the mark.

I appreciate that you’ve toned your language down because of me, if would be nice if you also didn’t see this site as one of your battlefields, its not how the majority on here want to blog.

  226. peaches – you all went against my backing of our keeper and disgust in fat sams boys

what did you want me to do?

agree with you because i was in the minority?

    incredulous.

  227. i refuse to lie, i refuse to kiss arse.

Oh, and be uber consistent with your discipline/control and decision making. Kids need crystal clear boundaries not muddy waters.

Apologies all, but I’m seeing so much mollycoddling and pandering to kids every whim these days that its starting to sicken me. So I thought I’d get this in early… and off mi chest.

  231. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

Sfh, My point is If he had no money he wouldn’t be able to afford the 11th best footballer in the world as he would cost around 25-30million wages, so he must have had money unless he was lying about it!!!!!!

  232. i think he spent what he had chippy, and was manybe looking to add chamakh for around 7m

    but that fell through.

we had to clear that square payment of 133m this spring that was huge

now that is gone… the noises about money are consistent from all quarters.

  233. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

SfH we didn’t go against you – we disagreed with your view ….. there’s a huge difference.

  234. Nice work JJ on the beautiful bouncing baby girl 😀

Couldn’t bring myself to change the legs to something more Arsenal so everyones stuck with them.

Did you read my post – looks like it could have been written by you too 😉

  235. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

SfH. “i refuse to lie, i refuse to kiss arse.”

What may be prudent is to ignore….

And you are a contributor to this site where the standards expected of you are clearly written. These are OUR standards and our aim is to be inclusive.

SS. I admire your fortitude in child rearing. I was crap, totally crap and my daughter ruled the roost!!

  236. raps – exactly, it was me against about 10

Hiya Chippy…..there’s you and Chipo, Kelsey and Keyser, mayank and Mayank..I really struggle to keep up.

Fair do’s re me not being a completely lone voice…you’re right.

I miss some of the old gang. Although funnily enough Chozzer wasn’t about much then, and he’s pretty much my fave over there now, notthat I read it much these days, but hwne I do he l;awys cracks mme up. He started the Trolololol thing and he also posted ‘Night at the Emirates’ as well I think.

Oh and Raddy, what a voice of reason he was over there. Its him that ‘respectfully’ invited me here

    blogs reunited 😆

  241. and don’t think i am not going to copyright that one you b@stards..lol

blogs renuited in around 10 years time will be huge 😆

  242. i am off to the maldives at the end of this month.. you will miss me when i am gone.

where we all the fun be?

  243. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

What a Mons in the cricket.

Struggling against the Irish and that with more South Africans than the SA team.

  244. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    hey BR

i will probably have the same scenario as you.. 😉

oh and im sorry legs..how rude of me

yes i read the post and it was spot on..fans must accept loses…but loses with no heart fire and commitment, not to mention the same schoolboy errors repeatedly is not acceptable

if we lose we lose with no excuse..and im sick of excuses..

its becoming a regular thing with this team and we are the arsenal we are better than that

  245. SH – I didn’t go against you for backing the keeper, I didn’t agree that the fouling of the keeper was the reason we lost the game which was the point you were making.

Yes, the fouling of the keeper meant that they scored 2 goals but Fabianski was under he cosh because its known that he’s weak.

Blackburn were strong in their attack, they wanted to score thats why they were bombarding our penalty area.

I think the reason they could even think of those tactics is because AW didn’t sign a new keeper and the world knows that both Almunia and Fabianski are weak. Its Wenger’s fault.

Its fine you don’t have to agree with me its just my view.

  246. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

JJ, I didn’t realise it was a girl you had….you can chuck my advice out of the window mate. Girls are just small women. Give up now pal….

    Only kidding??

Alright Radders…its as if you could feel my fingers thumbs and toes hammering out a typo laden post and got in here ready for a good laugh at it.

Hows you Raddy…?? Still treating that new(ish) wife of yours to your wondeful cuisine most nights..??

  247. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

SfH. I guess in the Maldives 😉

  248. and peaches, my view has always been, and i have said this 100 times

would a 25M keeper being able to rise up and catch the ball if he was elbowed in the head?

    yes or no?

  249. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

“but loses with no heart fire and commitment,”

    Spot on there JJ.

  250. BR – taking the outlaws for a week on their 50th anniversary.

me, the mrs, the sister-in-law, her hubbie, the outlaws.

that might answer where the fun defo wont be.

    SharkeySure,
There’s still good people over there but also some complete nut jobs 🙂 pretty much all the ones you’ve mentioned still pop in and out and it is a very popular blog but like ACLF you get some to extreme views 🙂 Still good people on both mind and whatever your views they all Love Arsenal but have different takes on it, Was chatting to QOS the other day and yes she’s got some views I don’t agree with mainly involving a brazillian (footballer) stop the giggling 😉 she’s doing ok must get her to pop in at some stage Hope alls well with you!

  253. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

SfH And the booze in the Maldives is outrageously expensive. Hope you are going to an “All Inclusive” holiday. If not, load up in duty free…..

  254. yup it certainly is, been there quite a few times, we love it out there, honeymooned there, and spent a few other occassions out there.

  255. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

My only comment re the GK’ing on Sat is that there is no way on earth that could have ever happened to Mad Jens Lehmann.

He’d have been up to all sorts and feigning the rest.

Toe stamps, pushes, pulls, (fake?) elbows, throwing defenders into strikers…the lot.

  256. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Honey mustard Raddy…thats one of my fave favourings, seasonings or whatever you call them.

  258. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

  260. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

SfH, you haven’t been made the bad guy for having a different view, you’ve alienated yourself by being intolerant of others who hold a different view.

We are all more than happy to accept your view of the game etc, please pay us the same compliment.

Again, in ‘About AA’ it states that “when a debate becomes an argument, it is time to agree to differ” … will you agree to differ on the subject?

  261. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Lol Chippy, Yeah I WAS giggling, and I’ll never read another post of hers again without thinking of her little Brazilian.

Not really sure if I shoud thank you for that, but cheers anyway

I do find it hilarious when ‘him that runs it’ (the elder) complains about the negativity in the comments….you really couldnt make it up.

  262. no need to rasp

i have stated my view, you all state your views.

    there is no issue.

think kels had a few things he wanted off his chest.

  263. you all take it in turns to pick this up, why not move on now?

or do you prefer to carry it on?

lol still the master chef raddy..congrats on the newish? wife

SS yeah daddys little angel..of course you are right..the girls rule the roost so i expect 18years of torture..but shes worth it.. 😉

    STF

its not about splashing the cash on a keeper..its finding a keeper with the presence to deal with that situation

our GKs are incredibly weak minded and cannont control their areas..a stronger keeper would not allow himself to be boxed in like that or elbowed

our defenders are well aware of this and find themselves crowding the 6 yard box concentrating on our own GK rather than the oppsosing team and thats why we are weak at set pieces..

we need a gk who will command that area and assure his defence and we will find the goals from set pieces will be less frequent..

  265. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

Amazing William Gallas has said he will be fit for France in the WC. Could someone tell him who pays his effing wages

  266. Possibly not but at the moment we’ll never know and thats why I didn’t feel it was necessary to debate the point. I feel that lots of other factors would come into play if we had a world class keeper – not that I’m advocating spending £25m on a keeper

He would give more gravitas to defending

    He would organise his defence

    He would command his box

    He would scare strikers

It would be obvious that attacking our goal-keeper wasn’t an option and a team like Blackburn would have to find a way to play football against us to beat us.

So – are we all hoping for a Shitty win tomorrow ? That guarantees us 3rd.

  268. jj, i stated here before that we need to let both the poles go off for a year on loan, pref in the premiership to build up confidence.. have manuel no2

and bring in a frey type

i saw chesney at girffin park a couple of weeks back ( day of city game)

and that fella has ridiculous presence, he is a monsterous size, frightening looking, and totally commmands his box.

barring injury, he will be in the top 3 best keepers in the world within 2 years, easily.

  269. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Here goes your LV stats String. I also thought that Fab2 whilst not blameless, was let down a bit by the two who really should have taken charge.

Both Sol and Silv should have exerted more authority, and made it clear that they were not about to stand by and let our keeper be bullied.

Can you imagine someone like Materazzi standing for that. Yay, buy Materazzi…quick, someone ring Arsene !!

On that Jens (mad) note…I bid you all a very good night.

    Til another day….

  270. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Radders – that’s good news eh? Gallas is fit for the World Cup – yipee !!

  271. Erik the Red's avatar Big Raddy says:

Thanks JJ. And congrats on your little one, though I recall saying that soon after her birth.

    18 years? Just the start…..

You are in for her ruling the roost for as long as it will take the Spuds to win the PL

Been bollocked and sent to your room 🙂

  274. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

    top point

i would say jens had no more ability than manny

but jens was nuts and a master of the dark arts..foot stamps eye pokes the lot…

thats the difference..our current keepers are too soft and allow themselves to be targets

could you imagine dunn trying that stunt on spunky or jens

he would of ended up in the back of a st johns with a football boot up his behind

  275. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

    Big Raddy,
That boy should set up his own blog and charge you for leaving comments he’d earn a fortune and wouldn’t even need to run for the cash he’d enjoy that 😉

Defo got the start of a good little community going here just need to stick with it and not let it turn into slanging matches much like holics and your be well away, Its funny tho I wouldn’t say my views were extreme but I got run out of dodge when I dared post on ACLF I’d imagine the other side of the fence would be the se on LG it’s a shame it’s all coming to this mind that’s why I really hope SFH is right and Wenger can bring the players we need in as it will start to re unite the fan base because at tho it’s quite fractured even amongst friends,

apologies for any typos i’ve been on my phone and it’s a pain it likes to subsitute words at times!

  276. chippy, london was right about you a little while ago.. you have a very decent air about you.

Just thought I’d dip in before I “hit the hay” as John Wayne would say, Radders.

Only vaguely depressed about yesterday now – I felt worse after Wigan tbh.

Hey, we must be getting better, we only let a one goal lead slip to a defeat this time – it was a two goal lead against Wigan !

Gallows humour is the way to go till Sunday, I suppose.

  278. see what i mean about gooners being hypocrites

    http://arsenaltruth.squarespace.com/arsenal-truth/2010/5/4/thank-you-sam-allardyce.html

    first lines…

I just thought I’d take some time out today to thank Sam Allardyce for the tactics he implemented against Arsenal on Monday evening.

😆 i’m sure he has been saying the samefor years, after every bolton game.

  279. JonJon's avatar JonJon says:

right im off myself guys its been nice to catch up with you all

i’ll catch you all another time

    laters

  280. SH – I don’t want to start another argument but have you read that article or just the headline and the opening paragraph?

  281. Chippy's avatar Chippy says:

    SFH,
Thanks it’s appreciated I carnt see the point in slagging matches on a keyboard it’s far to easy to be abusive without any reasoning,Its an emotive subject mind and things will always spill over but I don’t go much for calling other posters or our Manager A &&&t dont see the need,
Your not as bad as they all say either 😉

Anyways that’s my blogging over I’m whacked be lucky all and let’s hope the twitchy one gets done for tax evasion over night 🙂

  284. AT LAST

    Blackburn Goals: Analysis Using Snapshots

doubt many responses to this one!!!!!!!!!!!!

  285. Oh no rasp, there are going to be all those smiling spuds around tomorrow 😦 Time for the voodoo doll I reckon.

  286. Only that the writer’s opening comments are tongue in cheek. He’s being sarcastic – not clever or hypocritical. If you think that Fab2 was brimming with confidence then you see it differently to me.

  287. err, he was confident, i wrote on here he was… do you know what the giveaway was?

before his mistake coming out to sweep the ball on the boggy wembley pitch

his one big strength was being confient enough to storm out and be a sweeper when we held a high line

he stopped that this season, his decison making became crap

yesterday, he was doing it again for the first time since wembley.

  288. watched 2 reserve games on ATVO this seaosn where he did not even play that side of his game.

he was killed by that drogba goal, his natural game went.

it was nice to see that back in him yday.

  289. and that piece is not tongue in cheek at all, this is proven as he goes on to reaffirm his praise of fat sam in highlighitng our shortcomings later in the article.

    did you read it? 😉

  290. Yes I read it too and we will only end up going over the same ground.

His praise of Sams tactics is to highlight the fact that there are shortcomings in our squad so that its glaringly obvious to AW that somethings need to change.

I don’t believe that blog authors have to praise the team or AW just because they are Arsenal supporters. I know that you feel very strongly about gooners criticising anything about Arsenal but there just as many doubters as there are those permanently wearing rose-tinted glasses.

I hope you are right about there being money available to spend but moreso I hope that AW finds players to spend it on and spends it. I have my doubts so when I read an article like that one it confirms what I feel that I’m not alone as a doubter.

I accept that you don’t see it like that and we’ll have to agree to differ.

  291. nope peaches, you missed the point

i hate gooners applauding a man for using tactics they openly critics in the past… i have made that adundantly clear.. i know you know this.

the facts on the money, the accounts, and the noises from arsenal speak for themselves.

    dont doubt… get excited 🙂

  292. kelsey's avatar kelsey says:

Just read through the comments of the last few hours.

Firstly SH I said earlier let’s move on, which you ignored.

Secondly you cursed JJ and his post on ACLF which is no coincidence that he then popped up on here.

Then you are aloof and condesending towards me and others, refering to”thanks for your history”.

I suggest do what you want on your own blog and behave as you wish, but think seriously about posting on here as you are oblivious to anything anyone says to you and will not give a reasonable debate as to how we like to run this blog.
now as you say, I have got it off my chest.

  296. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Morning chippy,

Yes an excellent article (it always is on there).

Here’s a link for anyone who wants to read some very wise words….

    http://www.oleole.com/blogs/arseblog

I can’t say that I’ve ever disagreed with anything I’ve read on there.

I am in the same position as the writer, I haven’t reached the point of wanting Arsène to go, but my faith is slowly being chipped away and may desert me if he doesn’t reinforce decisively this summer.

  297. Morning all

Sorry, I sat down to write a new post but my phone hasn’t stopped ringing and I haven’t started it yet. It would be nice to put yesterdays comments to bed but as we’re on NewsNow we can’t really just start a new day without saying something.

    Bear with me.

  298. Alfa's avatar Alfa says:

Morning all. Thanks for the tip Chippy and the link Rasp, pretty much how I feel in terms of the performances and the need for players. I’m not at all ready for AW to go, so I’m in the more positive camp there. He hasn’t become a bad manager in my view and I can’t think of anyone that I want at the club more than him. It’s a collective effort anyway, for us to succeed the board, the non-playing staff, the manager and the players have to be more or less working right and you need a bit of luck. Changing AW won’t change any of that.

But that is only a point of view 🙂
