Build your starting XI for next season…

So the Champions League final was won by Real Madrid through their outstanding goalie yesterday. Liverpool was the better team for the first half but then struggled to add intensity and purpose and creativity to their game and when they did, they were denied by a superb Courtois…So a 14th CL for Real, a 30th trophy for Benzema who is now a clear favourite for the Ballon d’Or…For Liverpool, it was a very good season with 2 cup wins and near wins in the EPL and CL – the bad news for them is that they are going to lose Mane, who was a rock for them. He is off to Bayern…

Back to AFC and let us prepare next season. I think our starting line-up is more or less known for every position when key players are fit:

Ramsdale – Tomy, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey, ? – Saka, Ode, Martinelli – ?

Although Xhaka did have a good season, we definitely need an improvement in the DM/CM position and same goes for our centre-forward. There is a case for LB as well because Tierney has been spending a lot of time in the nursing room…but that’s another debate that could also be applied to Partey…

So who would you like to recruit as our starting DM/CM and CF? Who do you think we can attract? Which criteria will matter the most for you (EPL experience, youth…)?

Keep in mind that we will have approximately 165 Mln EUR and we will need also to buy some squad players…

  1. Dylan says:

    Jesus 50€m Tielemans £€30 gnabry €40m Huxley €30m €150m total 👌

  2. RC78 says:

    For me:
    DM/CM:
    – Kalvin Philips would be a great addition to the squad at DM/CM
    – W. Ndidi or Y. Bissouma would be also worth considering
    – Tielemans would not be the worse addition either

    CF:
    – Nunez, Toney, Watkins would fit the bill for us in age and playing style
    – Jesus, David would add depth in our game as well as further pace so they must be considered as well

Realistically, I think we could convince Philips and Watkins or Toney to join us.

Ramsdale – Tomy, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey, PHILIPS – Saka, Ode, Martinelli – TONEY

This team would give me confidence in its energy and resilience levels.

Philips is also courted by Man City and Man Utd but apparently, Utd want to go for D.Rice or R.Neves or F. De Jong so the real threat is Man City and what a threat it is…

  3. RC78 says:

    Dylan’s teams:

Ramsdale – Tomy, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey, TIELEMANS – Saka, Ode, GNABRY– JESUS

Not a bad team…and financially, feasible?

  4. RC78 says:

I forgot to add Abraham in the CF list

  5. RC78 says:

There will soon be a post about squad players to discuss key positions like RB, CB, LB and FW. We will look at current players like Cedric, AMN, Saliba, Nelson, Pepe and others…stay tuned

  6. LBG says:

    Ramsdale
    Saliba White Gabrielli
    Tomi Bissouma Partey Tierney
    Saka bOdeguard Martinelli
    Calvert- Lewin/or Abraham

  7. LBG says:

    PS
Smith- Rowe, Nketiah, and Balogun attacking subs.
    Elneny, Longa, Azeez, Patino midfield
Soares, Holding, Ballard ( I still hope), plus another defensive/attacking full back, as defensive cover.

  8. pbarany says:

Incoming transfers: Jesus (45M), Gakpo (40M), Sangare (35M)
Outgoing transfers: Bellerin, Torreira, Mari, Leno, Guendouzi, Maitlan-Niles, Mavropanos, Rúnarsson – combined fees: 70M
    Net spending: 50M

    Team A:
    –––––––––––Ramsdale––––––––––
    Tierney–Gabriel––White––Tomiyasu
    –––––––Xhaka–––––Partey–––––––
    ––GAKPO–––Odegaard–––Saka–––
    ––––––––––––JESUS––––––––––––

    Team B:
    –––––––––––Turner––––––––––
    Tavares–Holding–Saliba–Soares
    –––Lokonga––––SANGARE––––
    Martinelli––Smith-Rowe––Nelson
    ––––––––––Nketiah––––––––––

Squad players (beyond the 22 above): Okonkwo, Ballard, Rekik, Elneny, Azeez, Patino, Flores, Balogun (many playing for the U23 team regularly)

Loaned: Hein, Trusty, Lopez, Swanson, Salah-Eddine, Hutchinson, Cirjan, Biereth

  9. pbarany says:

LBG, your 1:54 line-up would probably beat any of the alternatives above and below, assuming they let you field those 12 players, as your formation is (1)-3-4-3-1

  10. fred1266 says:

Mari still an arsenal players how

  11. pbarany says:

Forgot about Pepe. Hence I adjust the transfer income to 95M, thus the net spending to 25M. (We may purchase Marquinhos or other relatively unknown youngster for a few million.)

Also we won’t need 2 CMs beyond Elneny for reserves, so one of Azeez and Patino should also go on loan along with Salah.

  12. LBG says:

    pbarany
    Surely the oppo won’t notice!

  13. LBG says:

Sangare and Gakpo, both Giants which would help, but Sangare is a red card waiting to happen, isn’t he?
And not too many in the Premier League will allow Gakpo to do his drag back spin more than once.

  14. omgarsenal says:

Attackers: NKEITAH, ,JESUS, LACAZETTE, Balogun, Flores and Pepe for the cups, etc.
Midfield:EL-NENY, ODEGARD,SAKA, ZHAKA, PARTEY,Martinelli,Smith-Rowe,Maitland-Niles and Lokonga in the cups, etc.
Defense: TIERNEY, HOLDING, SALIBA, GABRIEL, WHITE, TOMIYASU and Tavares,Cedric in the cups
Goal: RAMSDALE, Leno and Okwonko in the cups

  15. allezkev says:

Bissouma and Abraham are my preferences, also Hickey from Bologna would be a great fit as he can play numerous positions, but I think it’ll be Tielemans and Jesus who we actually sign.

  16. JM says:

    Current squad (w/o additionals):

    4-3-3
GK: Ramsdale, RB: Tomiyasu, CB: Saliba, CB: Gabriel, LB: Tierney, DM: White, CM: Partey, AM: Ødegaard, RF: Saka, LF: Smith Rowe, CF: Martinelli

    3-4-2-1
GK: Ramsdale, CB: Saliba, CB: White, CB: Gabriel; RWB: Tomiyasu, LWB: Tierney, CM: Partey, CM: Ødegaard, AM: Smith-Rowe, AM: Saka, CF: Martinelli

    Further incomings:

Gabriel Jesus (Man City), age:25, CF/RW/LW
Raphinha (Leeds United), age: 25, RM/LW
Charles De Ketelaere (Club Brugge), age:21, AM/CF/RW
Youri Tielemans (Leicester City), age: 25, CM/DM/AM

  17. RC78 says:

I d love for us to go for Raphinha as well but if not, then there are players like Gnabry, Barnes, Bowen, Harrison and Kostic that could be nice additions to our squad…

  18. LBG says:

So Mane has had enough and all those idiot Scousers think they can prise Saka/ and or Martinelli away from us……let alone afford Kane or Son or Nunez…”.’avin a laugh”.

  19. RC78 says:

Martinelli would love life at Liverpool, I think…Saka, not so much – he d be more of a City player, really….Now, none of them are going anywhere!

As for Mane, it will be a huge loss for Livepool. He has been a massive element in the Reds’ success. He s better than Diaz, Jota and Firmino and at least as good as Salah overall…If Mane ends up in Munich, it opens the door for Gnabry to leave and come back to us or maybe join Liverpool?

  20. allezkev says:

Saw an interesting comment yesterday, it concerned the Liverpool squad and the age of its players, it seems that Fenway are going to need to spend a small fortune over the next couple of years as about a dozen of the Scousers squad are 30+ and more.

I’ve seen this with them before, just after they won the League in 1989/90, they suddenly all got old and drifted into years of mediocrity…

  21. allezkev says:

Liverpool are quite adept at many levels of ‘tapping up’ – they’ve been at it for years but get a pass from the FA/Press/media because, well because they’re Liverpool.

  22. fred1266 says:

Sometimes when I see comment like going for players like raphina Bowen etc but wouldn’t we be hindering players growth like saka Emile martinelli , yes I know ww need squad dept but shouldn’t qe be more focused on improving position we actually don’t have player or dept in like striker CDM and full back

  23. RockyLives says:

Of existing players and the ones with whom we’ve been strongly linked, I would go for this starting 11, with their back-ups in brackets:

    Ramsey/(new signing)

    Tomiyasu/(new signing) – White/(Saliba) – Gabriel/(Saliba) – Tierney/(Hickey)

    Partey(Bissouma) – Tielemans(Xhaka)

    Saka/(new signing) – Odegaard/(ESR) – Gnabry/(Martinelli)

    Jesus/(Nketiah)

  24. RC78 says:

Tielemans, Gnabry and Jesus for Rocky…pbbly the closest to the reality

  25. LBG says:

Tieiemans thinks he’s too good for us!

  26. LBG says:

It’s Ramsey in goal for us next term then!

  27. TotalArsenal says:

Lol, still no Xhaka as a given, first on the team sheet for Arteta?! 🤩 Did you see him in the new shirt video with Saka and ESR? It’s Parteys position that needs investing in as he is injury prone and inconsistent as Ramsey used to be. Cannot have that in midfield. I think our priority will be left attack and CF. Martinelli is still learning and needs at least competition in that position.

  28. fred1266 says:

Tieliman whole attitude stink , imagine I’m the middle of the season you announced u leaving and he literally hasn’t had a good game since he announced that

  29. RockyLives says:

Ramsey in goal – then he score the winner in the Cup Final 😀
