Abraham or Jesus? Will one of these “biblical” forwards be our saviour? or will Darwin be the catalyst to our further evolution?…

Comparison

Edu has indicated to ESPN Brazil that, irrespective of the ranking at the season, the team will go after 2 major transfers to upgrade the team this summer. The board has been informed and been given names and has not rejected the Edu-Arteta request as far as it is known…

One of the area where a recruit is expected is for the Forward position. Few names have been emerging as top contenders:

  • Abraham, former Chelsea and currently Roma player;
  • Jesus, current Man City player;
  • D. Nunez, current Benfica player

Besides these 3 names, the following players have also been mentionned: C-Lewin (Everton), O.Watkins (A. Villa), I. Toney (Brentford) and C. De Ketelaere (Brugges).

So who would like to join us and why?

COYG!

  • C-Lewin and O.Watkins but these names have been cooled off recently;

  1. John Madhuku says:

Darwin Nunez is fine by me.

  2. fred1266 says:

Talking about cooling off aubameyang has really cooled off from his hot streak

  3. TotalArsenal says:

Great headline. Any of these will do. And I would like to keep Laca as mentor, back up and competition.

  4. pbarany says:

First, I really enjoy RC78 for the style of the post, not just the content. Keep it up, but you set the bar pretty high. 🙂

Regarding the forwards, I think it should be a matter of finances. And from that perspective Jesus would be the best bet.
Abraham could have been a fin signing for the 36M AS Roma grabbed him, but for 70M – which he kind of properly worth now – it’s no longer a scouting masterstroke. In fact that is exactly the Liverpool type of signing in recent years: they don’t take the chances any more, but pay the premium for a well established player. Abraham is a good player, no doubt about that, but I don’t think he is any better then the rest of the strikers in the 60-80M bracket. Including Nunez, who would also cost in the same ballpark. Yes, he is 2 years younger than Tammy, but the latter is taller and has PL experience, so it’s kind of a draw between those 2.

My reasons for Jesus to become our savior is that he will definitely be cheaper than the others (albeit not much older than Abraham), has extensive experience in the PL, and will be highly motivated to regain his spot in the Brazilian squad ahead of the world cup. Plus he would be keen on working with Mikel again – which might not apply the other 2 candidate. And it would be nice to have a contingent for 3-4 quality Brazilian players anyway: they could support each other in both dressing rooms. But if we sign a teenage sensation for the midfield from Brazil, it is critical that he be also called Gabriel!

  5. RC78 says:

Heya everyone – just added an overall stats comparison…To be read with caution as players do not play the same competitions but gives a bit of information…For example, Jesus seems to be able to create more chances for others while Nunez seems to be able to score more…Anyways, glad you guys enjoyed the headline 😛

  6. fred1266 says:

Rc78 not sure if you watch alot of city game but besides Saturday game Jesus has been playing RW rather than the main striker hence the reasons for him have more creative

  7. RC78 says:

Also Abraham seems to be better in the air…surprising given Nunez height and built…

I think any of these 3 would add something to our team but I tend to agree with pbarany that out of the 3, maybe Jesus gives more certainty…Amen to that 😛

If we could also snape Tchouameni…

Ramsdale – Tomy, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey, TCHOUAMENI – Saka, Ode, Martinelli – JESUS

Turner – Cedric, Holding, Mavro (?), AMN (?) – El Neny, Xhaka – Pepe, ESR, KOSTIC – Nketiah (or Laca or Balogun)

    ?

  8. RC78 says:

Instead of Kostic, we could also try to lure Raphinha from Leeds or Barnes from Leicester?

  9. LBG says:

Abraham AND Nunez. Then Bissouma/ or White in holding central position. Saliba in back four when possible. A fit Tierney, Tomi and Partey.
Development of full back defensive skill over next season, and continued progression of our still and occasionally clearly ” weary, youthful forward talent.

  10. RC78 says:

Hi Fred – I did not know G.Jesus was mostly deployed on the right side. This is all the more impressive because he is quite decisive then from the side. Imagine him permuting with Saka and Martinelli (or ESR)…

  11. LB says:

“Antonio Rudiger to leave Chelsea in summer after failing to agree new contract”

The rats are starting to leave the ship.

  12. fred1266 says:

He was always think about leaving, cause Chelsea find he wants to much money to renew, the sanctions didn’t make things easier
Christensen also off I heard but all this was before sanctions

  13. RC78 says:

Real Madrid managed to get Alaba and Rudiger on a free…just because they are Real Madrid, they can attract the best because they genuinely contend for trophies year in year out…although they will have it tough tonight especially if Casemiro and Modric are not playing…Real has a strong starting XI but their back-up team is not great…

As for Auba, he is not far from being the best scorer of Barcelona as a “January recruit”. He only needs one more goal I think…

I can’t wait till we attract big players again, for free ideally 🙂 If we were super competitive, maybe we could have been in the hunt for Handanovic, Rudiger, Pogba (?), Witsel, Kessie, Dembele, Mbappe…

Anyways, if somehow, we can snap Aarons, Kostic, Tchouameni and Jesus (or Nunez), I d be very happy…If not, we could be ok with Phillips/Rice and Watkins/Toney (or Abraham)…

  14. pbarany says:

RC78, those are very important stat comparisons you added, thanks. While it is debated if yellow cards are problems for a striker, or more shots is correlated with being a better forward, i think it gives us a better picture. And the first glance is that the offering is quite balanced, with no clear winner (3, 3 and 4 categories won respectively). If we add the efficiency stats (goals per minute, contribution per game) that would tend towards Nunez, but Fred’s point explains a lot about Jesus’ lack of playing time and goals.

I’m still in favor of bringing a 3rd Gabriel to Arsenal, as
    – he doesn’t seem to be less efficient as the others
    – he would cost probably half of Nunez
    – his 90k salary shouldn’t be an issue even if he demands a 30% raise
    – he will be happy to work with Mikel and regularly play, while I can imagine Nunez reacting similar to Vlahovic…

  15. LB says:

Which goal do you enjoy watching more: ESR against Chelsea or Xhaka against Manu?

  16. fred1266 says:

    Sad to say xhaka lol

  17. RC78 says:

Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and PSG keen on Tchouameni…All hopes for AFC are now finished to land Tchouameni…

  18. fred1266 says:

Thing was only you was hoping for him though RC78 lol

  19. RC78 says:

    I know Fred…I know…lol

  20. pbarany says:

We are not (yet) in the position to compete for the most popular players.
That should end our quest for not only Haaland and Mbappé, but also for Nunez and Tchouameni. In the UK it’s Rice and Phillips (maybe even Tielemans) – who if ever leave will likely not join us, but rather one of the top 8 clubs (RM, Barcelona, Atletico, Bayern, PSG, Liverpool, Man City, Juventus).

But our squad is not far from complete, and up front we could snatch Jesus and/or Gakpo, and for midfield I’m starting to like Sangaré (ok, he wasn’t rumored to us, but still a fine prospect) and Neves.

  21. RC78 says:

Benzema and De Bruyne are really playing at another level this year and Bernardo SIlva has been very good as well.

Militao and Laporte did not have the best games…

  22. fred1266 says:

Was a good game hopefully real can turn it around in the next leg

Hopefully Villarreal can pull off another upset today, but don’t think the game would be as exciting

  23. RC78 says:

I think Liverpool will eat Emery’s team today…Mane, Jota, Salah, Diaz, Thiago, T.Arnold and Robertson will find a key to unlock them…now Villareal is deadly on transitions and set-pieces to I expect a 4-1 or 4-2 victory for Liverpool tonight

  24. fred1266 says:

Both bayern and juventus also thought day would have eaten emery team look how well that turned out

  25. pbarany says:

    Right said, Fred.
While a 4:1 victory wouldn’t be undeserved, my money is on a 0:0 result.

  26. fred1266 says:

4:1 only if emery arsenal turn up, if it Seville emery then 1:0, 0:0 or 0:1

  27. RC78 says:

So Liverpool ate Villareal but the score line is still flattering for Villareal…2-0, deserved and convincing win. What a team…

If you could take one player from the starting Liverpool XI, who would it be?

    Alisson

    Trent
    Konate
    Van Dijk
    Robertson

    Hendo
    Fabinho
    Thiago

    Salah
    Mane
    L.Diaz

I really love Mane, I think he is in the run for the Ballon d’Or together with KDB and KB9. However, would he be the missing link for us? Wouldn’t it be someone like the full-backs, Fabinho or Thiago…?

    What do you think?

  28. fred1266 says:

Tobin heath released from contract, did she even play a game for us, hope dey getting miedema contract sorted

  29. LBG says:

Best news of the day – Atkinson and Moss to retire. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  30. pbarany says:

RC78, my pick would be Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Salah and Mané are great players, no doubt about that, but at 30, they are likely to have 2 good seasons left. Plus we are well equipped with future legends on both wings.
While TAA is only 23, and even if he squeezes Tomiyasu from RB, he can play RCB as he does for Japan.

My other candidate would be Jota, but he wasn’t on the menu. He is an efficient CF, and could inherit Ronaldo’s striker position for Portugal when Cristiano eventually retires.

  31. fred1266 says:

Nelson vs Saliba and Guendouzi in conference league

both nelson and Guendouzi involved with there teams 2nd goal

  32. fred1266 says:

Xhaka April player of the month lmao

  33. LBG says:

Still can’t get away from Dean.🤬

  34. LBG says:

Barcelona to sell Aubang in the Summer!

  35. fred1266 says:

Selling a player dey got for free got to love it

  36. LBG says:

    Fred
Not quite for free if you remember his ridiculous salary!!

  37. fred1266 says:

For low block defense don’t think odegard is the man we need quick interchanges he holds the ball a bit to much

  38. fred1266 says:

Didn’t he take a pay cut to join, thought he did

  39. RC78 says:

6 mins lead…Tavares’ defending is atrocious…can’t Arteta just play Cedric at LB…Tavares is just too soft defensively…

  40. fred1266 says:

So basically he has given away a goal every single game he has played

  41. fred1266 says:

Rc any rating how was Eddie today

  42. Las says:

It is true that Nuno has given away a goal per match BUT we won all three when he played full matches.
However, I convinced that he has to go back to the school and start learning to defend. 🙂

  43. LBG says:

    Fred
Took a pay cut, scored a few goals, and still it was the right decision to offload. And the lesson is don’t give a ridiculous new contract to an aging player that takes away desire.
Eddie was great today, with qualification that his final shot is sometimes not ruthless enough. Adds a different dimension to us. Prepared and able to run behind defences. Has the pace, has toughened up, and has even improved on his hold up play/ back to defender. 7 out of 10 for me.
