Our core team…don’t disturb it for 3 years, at least

Ramsdale – Tomy, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey – Saka, Ode (or ESR), Martinelli

+ Turner, Holding, Saliba (hopefully), Lokonga, ESR (or Ode), Balogun

These players should be retained imho. Does not matter if Barcelona or Real or Bayern or Liverpool or City come knocking, we gotta keep these players. They are mostly young, identify with our club and have been good performers overall, at least this season for the most part. Why shall we sell them? If you sell them, you must (i) get a HUGE sum for their services and (ii) have an equally good replacement available immediately.

What we know is that we need TWO key players in our starting XI: a better CM and a better CF/FW. Tchouameni and Nunez would be ideal but let us see who joins us – it will depend on CL qualification as well. I hope we do not get Neves and Morata for example…They are good but they won’t transform our team into a much better team, which is what we are after.

The point of that post is: KEEP THE CORE OF THE TEAM, for the next 3 years if possible.

Need a backup for partey he gets injured a tad to much

At list you have spoken a sense, and i wish they take it up for consideration

Solid point RC, probably most of us who watch the development of the team would agree. Depends on Euro qualification success and improving the culture – which is the main reason I would keep Arteta. Only Poch could possibly improve on that (of “available” managers). So here’s the question:
Out of that group, where are the TAA, Robertson, VVD, KDB, Salah, Mane, Fabino, Rodri, LaPorte, Diaz, Mahrez, Jota, maybe even B.Silva, Walker, Henderson, Sterling, Firmino.
I didn’t say Allison or Ederson because I really believe Ramsdale is close to being as good. If you look at Gabriel and Saka you have to think they’re on course to be rated with the above group. Partey should be but isn’t yet, Martinelli, ODE, ESR and maybe White definitely look promising. Can Arteta take these guys to the next level? Realistically, we probably need at least 6 top quality signings to make a competitive squad, and as you said, that includes keeping the players we have.
So, as you pointed out, we need to keep the group together for at least 3 years because realistically, that’s at LEAST how long it will take to build a squad.

  4. allezkev says:

Good post, you can probably add Patino, Hutchinson and Flores to that group in a years time.

  5. LBG says:

    Azeez!

  6. RC78 says:

Hi Mike – I agree that we would need more for the overall squad but we need at the very least 2 players…If we could get those 2 signings for the first squad, it would be already a positive step.

Midfielder: Tchouameni, Ndidi, Rice, K. Phillips, Bissouma (?)

Forward: Toney, Watkins, Abraham, Shick, L. Martinez, D. Nunez, David, Osimhen, Gouiri, Raul de Tomas,

Patino, Azeez, Hutchinson, O’Houland and Flores – let us bring them into the fold indeed…We still have to make a call on Reiss-Nelsson…

  7. LBG says:

Dyche, well out of Burnley who will still probably go down.
Perhaps Sean will be needed to save Manure from relegation next season!😁

  8. RC78 says:

Apparently Ten Haag is going to Man Utd but he is having second thoughts too…I think they should give the job to Pochetinno…and Paris should go get a real coach like Gasperini or Jesus…

  9. RC78 says:

Partey most likely out for the season…
    Tomy not looking great either…

I think the change of formation is now needed…the boys can do it. They are smart – come on M.A, just do it and win some games because the 4231 system without Tomy, Tierney, Partey would be difficult…

  10. fred1266 says:

Lacazette out for personal reasons hope everything OK

So either martinelli or Eddie leading the line

I know most of u all want a back 3 but don’t think arteta will so if we stick to a back 4 how about letting saka play there he did it so well under emery in his break out season

Another option is giving Tavares another chance but limit him going forward so that he can just concentrate on defending

  11. LBG says:

    Fred
Now sit down and try to chill!
Latest comments suggest Mikel will stick with………..X.
    ” Doooomed, we’re all dooooomed”

  12. VP says:

I have a great feeling about this game.
I think we will beat South Ham and even West Ham. Its the games in between the Hams that will be tricky.

Its Sat night here and we’re getting ready for the Easter feast with pork ribs, chicken schnitzels, wagu beef and parmegiana reggiana ravioli + salads etc. (no ham)

Happy Easter one and all on AA and may we be all feasting on a great win… COYG!!!

  13. fred1266 says:

Nice to see Tavares given another chance hope he knows he a defender first so he doesn’t need to get forward

Not sure how I feel about odegard captain surely saka should have gotten it ent

  14. LBG says:

Beaten by a goalkeeper again. Oh Arsenal why do you do this to us?

  15. aaron says:

Just an internet fan, but 55 and 45 will get you 6-8th three years running.

    AVERAGE!

  16. RC78 says:

From Top 4 hopes to trying to finish in Top 8…We may again finish outside Top 6…that would be quite terrible if Tottenham, Man Utd and West Ham finish in front of us in the end…but our form is looking off and our next games bleak…

If we finish 7-8, did not do well in the Cups and did not play Europe…there would be some pressure on Arteta-Edu, no? As I was saying early on in the season, Arteta-Edu will be backed by Kroenken until December but after that…

Kroenkes need to go big this summer. Splash all out on Tchouameni and a reliable Forward

  17. fred1266 says:

Another howler from Donnaroma can’t imagine paying all that money for someone and dey can’t even hold a ball

  18. fred1266 says:

Don’t think getting a reliable forward would even help us Our finishing is atrocious

Seems the problem was never PEA

  19. VP says:

in other news, Visit Rwanda shirt sponsorship is getting a bit of attention…

  20. LBG says:

Piss mOrgan says buy Ronaldo if he becomes available!!. Will this idiot stop at nothing to get his name on the back/front pages? Thank God we dont have to hear him so much nowadays.

  21. LBG says:

    RIP Steve Rowley.

  22. LBG says:

Potter cracked the Spursey dilemma with Bissouma playing as a screen and cutting off all supply to Kane. ( no shots on target).
Please learn from this Mikel ( God knows who could play the role in our current squad!)……and buy Bissouma.

  23. Mike M says:

We have to take our chances. Saka’s chance wasn’t a save it was a glaring miss. Shame really because a goal then and we would have won the game. Our movement against a low block is pedestrian at best. No one is trying to play the ball in behind, not because they can’t (although Xhaka’s passing is about 75% backwards right now and Cedric can’t do it) but I still think our energy levels are lacking. What I took away from that game:
We played well enough to win but didn’t score when we could have. Our defending for the goal and in general has dropped (to be fair, we’re playing a weakened back line). We don’t create enough chances. We’ need a break or a bit of luck !!
Still think it’s possible to finish 4th or 5th but with our key players dropping like flies, maybe it’s too much to expect.
I remember both Pep and Klopp’s first few years in the PL. The spent most of their time getting their squads to the fitness levels they required. Maybe that’s what we’re struggling with.

  24. fred1266 says:

Its arteta third season shouldn’t the fitness level be there already?

  25. RC78 says:

Edu-Arteta to splash big on Forward, keep Nketiah and Balogun while parting with Lacazette…

  26. aaron says:

    RC,
Is that new cf going to be for the Europa conference?;-)

  27. RC78 says:

Aaron, I am even doubting we could get the Europa Conference spot now…

I think we can offer a good option for players like Phillips, Tchouameni and Toney, Nunez because we are in bigger clubs than their current ones and we will offer guaranteed starting spot and hopefully some sort of European football and a decent challenge in Cups and Top 4…Now, we need to send a huge signal from the on-set to players by signing a top player and not being afraid to spend a big fee for him…If you go out and purchase D. Nunez on week 1 of the transfer market, you are sending a signal that you mean business…

  28. RC78 says:

What I know is that some of our key players are injury prone: Tierney, Partey, Tomy, ESR…not good 😦

  29. aaron says:

    RC,
How long have you been following AFC?

Not a jab, but when have we got business done quickly?

  30. RC78 says:

Hi Aaron – that was exactly my point…we need to change strategies because usually we just get deals done later on in the window…not good really…I am hoping for a change this summer…wishful thinking, probably 😦
