Well well well… We put things straight back in another London derby…Our shock loss on Day 1 to Brentford is now avenged, courtesy of a good display of football.
Throughout the first half, we were the dominating team and then in the second half, our domination continued although our visitors did cause us some scare at times but overall, it was a well managed game at home and our academy players scored again, Odegaard was in good form and we finished the game with 11 players on the pitch.
ESR had a very good display today and I thought Odegarrd was scintillating especially in the first half. Saka was tremendous and Lacazette had a decent game and improved it with his assist…The most disappointing player today was…Partey. The rest did well and Pepe did well when on the pitch…
Here are the ratings:
Ramsdale: 6, not much to do
Cedric: 7, defended well and attacked with purpose
White: 7, did his job well
Gabriel: 7, another solid display
Tierney: 7, his usual self: industrious
Partey: 6, weak shots and terrible passes at times…but overall, ok
Xhaka: 7, a mature display
Saka: 8, a goal and a constant threat
Ode: 8, wonderful first half and good second half.
ESR: 8.5, MOTM with a goal and a good display
Laca: 7, should not have been offside in the first half but made up for it with an assist and energetic display
Subs: Pepe (positive and encouraging display), Nketiah (N/A)
So we are standing in the sixth place, level on points with West Ham, 1 point behind Man Utd and with 2 games in hand compared to Utd and 3 in hand when it comes to West Ham…It is not looking to shabby – let us hope that City punishes Spurs although at the moment it is a draw
Tierney was offside in lacazette goal
Still wished we scored more goals still angry about opening day loss
Seriously that loss was so annoying but today’s win was good.
Shame we didn’t keep a CS I swear the game was over
rc78 dey paying these players all this money and can’t even score a penalty
A good display indeed and very encouraging. Top 4 is very much within reach.
Gotta love Laca 😛
As for PSG, I think it is best to leave everything with Mbappe 😛
That said, yesterday, Neymar and Messi did play well overall too but the team was defensively weak especially with Gueye-Wijnaldum being super poor and Bernat-Kehrer were also atrocious.
But we created a lot of chances but (i) did not take them too well but (ii) were facing a GK who was on top form. He is actually good this Albert Laffont.
That penalty miss alone means neymar had an awful game
he also scored a goal :-P…Yesterday, Neymar was actually (until the missed PK) quite good and he took his goal very well…
I think Pochetinno now knows his best line-up:
Donnarumma – Hakimi, Marquimhos, Kimpembe, Mendes – Danilo, Paredes, Verratti – Mbappe, Messi, Neymar
Wijnaldum is struggling badly since joining us…
Draxler is not really finding his feet and Di Maria is having a dip while Icardi is useless this season and Kuzawa unused
I think Diallo and Gueye will be back in good form but Kehrer and Dagba are not providing good enough cover for Hakimi and Bernat needs a lot more game time too before challenging again for the LB spot.
Navas will be off at the end of the season and same with Rico so we will need a back-up GK. We need someone who has experience but does not challenge Donnarumma too much…It is going to be interesting to see who we go for…
At RB, I think we may opt for Clauss from Lens as a back-up to Hakimi. At CB, we will recruit as well – Fofana, Ndicka, Todibo, Botman, Torres, Kounde…
At CM, we will recruit as well and Tchouameni, Ruiz, Bellingham, Tielemans, Casemiro (if Zidane comes), Fofana (Lens), Veretout are being looked at.
At CF, we are also monitoring a few players and it all depends on what happens with Mbappe…
Donnarumma – Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Mendes – Danilo, TIELEMANS, Verratti – Mbappe?, Messi, Neymar
? – Clauss, Ndicka, Ramos, Diallo, Bernat – Simons, Gueye, Veretout – ?, Kalimuendo
Mbappe pbbly off to Real Madrid but apparently, Tuchel would not be against having him at Chelsea to challenge for the EPL…
Good little write up RC, think you captured the game perfectly, I like the fact that you noticed Odegaard’s performance in the first half.
I am not even a fan of Ode but yesterday, his passing was silky and incisive. I think it was his best half for us, ever.
I know you aren’t an Ode fan and that is why I pointed it out. Still a lot to improve though but there is no doubt that he is going in the right direction and it shouldn’t be underestimated that he is keeping ESR out.
I think Ode is a better passer of the ball but ESR is a lot more decisive and brings more goals and assists to the game. Ode is also not as fast nor as good as a dribbler but he can control the tempo of the game better. I would love Ode to develop into our Bernardo Silva and ESR into our KDB…let us see
Auba already on the score board for Barcelona with two goals in the first half vs Valencia…
I think esr is more a Bilva and odegard more a Dilva don’t you think
Info I didn’t need to know
