Looking back at the last 3 seasons, we have always faltered when a golden opportunity was presented to us to (i) keep our distances with rivals in the race to the Top 4, (ii) to catch up our rivals in the race to the Top 4, (iii) or to position ourselves favourably in the Top 4.
Can we finally be breaking our duck today? Tottenham lost to Southampton and Man Utd drew…
We are playing the Wolves tonight away…not an easy game but neither an impossible task to beat them. We have to be solid as they break quickly and are also quite good in the air and set pieces. This is a game where our CBs and double-pivot will be tested as well as our full-backs…
We gotta play a strong line-up, be solid and win as well as finish the game with 11 players on the pitch:-P
Predicted line-up: Ramsdale – Soares/Tomy, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey, Xhaka – Saka, Ode, ESR – Laca
Preferred line-up: Ramsdale – Tomy, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey, Xhaka – Saka, ESR, Martinelli – Laca
At this stage, Partey-Xhaka is the most effective double pivot we have, which is annoying to admit. Lokonga seems to still be a bit light defensively and El Neny may not have recovered fully…
Laca will start as our captain…Let us see…Anyways…let us hope for a win. I think we can do it if we play 11 vs 11…
I have a good feeling about Pepe, Nketiah and ESR today…I think they could get involved and be decisive!
COYG!
There is little or no room left for us to cock-up now as we enter the 17 cup ties period, every point frittered away at this time of the campaign would feel like a kick in the trophy room, so no more indulgent red card scenarios, keep XI on the pitch, hold your nerve, don’t offer the officials any opportunity for a stitch up and don’t lose – at the very least.
Actual line-up: Ramsdale – Soares, White, Gabs, Tierney – Partey, Xhaka – Saka, Ode, Martinelli – Laca
Wolbes: – Sa – Coady, Kilman, Saiss – Semedo, Neves, Dendoncker, Marcal – Trincao, Jimenez, Podence.
4231 vs 343 set-up…It ll be down to Saka, Ode and Matinelli to create the overload offensively and to keep Semedo and Marcal out of the game as much as possible. This is a game for Ode or ESR to score…
Sky Sports’ Adam Bate at Molineux:
“It is bitterly cold here in Wolverhampton this evening but for both of these teams there is opportunity in the air after Manchester United and Tottenham failed to win this week.
“Wolves can overtake Arsenal and jump to sixth with a win. The Gunners can overtake Manchester United and move into fifth – one point behind West Ham with two games in hand. Who will seize this chance?”
Seems it is going to be a monologue on the blog tonight
Seems like our loyal bloggers’ presence is just a long lost sight
Seems like we may have a chance to beat the Wolves tonight
And keep a the Top four in close sight…
I will stop my poetry as nobody is here to enjoy it,
Shame coz it is not too bad to be called shit
Apologies for the last word of the previous verse
But this was the only one that made sense at this time in my universe
Enjoy the game everyone – see you at half time, hopefully! 😛
Gabriel with a goal, Partey with a yellow card and poor defending on set pieces by both teams…
We re not looking too solid defensively but quite good in transition
Partey is really struggling…bettwe change him at half time
Saka is on and off…Soares not great but Tierney-Martinelli working well
There is space for a second goal before half time
1-0 at half time. Nothing to be ashamed of – we have another gear in us but Cedric, White and Partey are a bit worrying defensively.
Bit worried about both Partey and Xhaka on yellows…
indeed
ESR on for Ode
Red card…Martinelli
Another game finishing 10 men…unbelievable…20 mins remaining
4 or 5 games in a row now getting a man sent off…it s crazy
Arsenal the only side who can get 2 yellow in the same passage of play
And Laca misses a golden chance 😦
Nice save ramsdale
Seems we always getting red when playing Wolves think Luiz got one some time ago
We need Nketiah or Tavares in for Laca. Just someone with pace up front
We re playing too deed. We will concede for sure.
I liked your poetry, RC 😜
Can’t believe we’re down to 10 again!! MA really needs to sort this out, it’s pathetic! We’re really trying our hardest to screw up finishing in the top 4!!
Wow do we make it hard for ourselves!
We dug in but we hold to win…bloody hell…can’t believe it…A scrappy goal to win a scrappy game but we showed resilience in the end…
Gabriel as the MoTM!
Ramsdale, Holding, White, Gabriel, Tierney played well
Partey-Xhaka played better in the second half
Saka had a good game, Ode a quieter one and Martinelli a good one until he got sent off
Laca worked hard but missed a glorious chance and Cedric was OK
Now for Martinelli – very bizarre way to get sent off but he should know better too…He has done a few of these fouls this year and has been carded for them…Anyways..He is learning and he is passionate.
Martinelli will be missing next game but we could play Pepe, Tavares as well as ESR on the wings so we should be ok…
I reckon we’d be a decent side if we had 11 players.
Golden opportunity taken I would say. The back line is getting stronger and stronger.
I don’t think a view from the stands would hurt Gabbi too much; in fact, a bit of objectivity could help.
You really come up with some crazy ideas Slim……eleven men, impossible.
The game wasn’t as entertaining as RC78’s lyrics, but all well that ends well.
I’m not worried about Martinelli’s suspension either. Pepe will do his best to keep him out of the squad.
The club should go all in for Mbappe 😛 What a player…The real heir to T. Henry…He needs to come to Arsenal now…:-P Come on Edu
Mbappe? Now that’s what I call thinking big.
martinelli out is it pepe time
