A fun EURO but now time for Club footie again

So the Euro was quite fun this year with:

  • The fans back in the stadium
  • Some good games
  • Overall good refereeing
  • Overall good camaraderie between players
  • The advent of a solid England team full of talent, experience and tactical nous (except in the second half of the final)
  • A final between the best two teamsi n the tournament
  • And the victory of a team that was brave on the ball

Now, we are back to Club football and I am looking forward to it to be honest but also I am expecting a lot from Edu-Arteta in the transfer market and would echo Emmanuel Petit’s sentiment that Arsenal has to purchase not only players with proven quality but also players with character. He said it was not only important to improve the team but also to keep our young talents, especially Tierney, Saka and ESR.

So far, we have gotten Nuno Tavares…and we have off-loaded a few players Luiz, Mavropanos and Guendouzi…

A lot of work to do still for our Sporting Director and Manager

TG the Interlull is over and we are close to our new chapter, our new squad, our youthful drive and passion which will hopefully push The Arsenal upwards to a new successful future.
    COYG.

  2. RC78 says:

The squad can count on some promising young players on every line:
    – Gabriel, Tierney
    – ESR
    – Saka
    – Martinelli

Knowing that we could potentially add Willock, AMN, Nelsson, Balogun to that list too…I have my reservations regarding Nketiah but who knows…

  3. LBG says:

    PS
And as Rashford’s mural is defaced, online racist airheads abuse black players, Johnson and Patel were happy for players to be booed together with National anthems. Conservative MP says Rashford should have spent more time taking penalties and less with politics. And our Prime Minister describes Muslim women, amongst other things, as letter boxes and bank robbers. WHO IS SURPRISED.
A bigoted, racist, misogynist pretends to be ashamed. We know what you are!!🤬🤬🤬

  4. RC78 says:

I am afraid Neville was right: The racist abuse is sad but predictable…

The current UK government certainly does not help with its rhetoric but overall since 2016, the rhetoric in the UK has been tarnished with the UKIP stain…

Cameron has a lot to answer for and so do the Lib Dems…

There are so many unkept promises (infrastructure, healthcare, development, education, pension…), why not delay the EU referendum by 12 months?

And I am afraid your Home Minister also got it all wrong:
    – First control the people at home and their behaviour;
    – Then control the ones that want to come to your country…

Unfortunately she s not the only Home Minister who only focuses on migration related issues…

  5. Dexter says:

I rarely take any notice of Petit. He’s a rent a gob pundit who left Arsenal after a couple of years. Hardly Mr Arsenal material.

Saying we need decent players, while ensuring we keep hold of the young home grown talents isn’t exactly sage like is it! 🤣

  6. Dexter says:

    LBG

    Your last post…

    Bang on mate

We live in a country where racism is not just the norm, its championed by its government and MPs ffs!

  7. Dexter says:

    RC78

    Good points too.

A lot of this BS stems from fear and ignorance. You only have to see all the references to winning WW2 whenever there’s a major sporting event or international political issue. The tabloids ramp up the hatred, division, but it eminates from the politicians too.

Because we’re brought up to believe England/GB/UK (what ever) is special, the best blah blah… but this is based on rightly condemned historic atrocities carried out in the name of the British empire…. colonialism, slavery, quashing working class peoples rights, the list is as long as it is shameful.

But the powers that be, instead of accepting these things were wrong and trying to learn and move on from them, they want to deflect and distract, calling people ‘woke’ etc…
Because if the masses realise we ain’t special and we have a nasty history, then the flag waving jingoistic bollocks spouted by Johnson and his corrupt government, Farage and his racist populism along with the mass media tycoons, will be seen for what it is….

Empty and shallow PR designed to deflect from Divisive and cruel policies that enables and perpetuates an unfair elitist system.

    Rant over!! 🤣

    Up the Arse!!

  8. RC78 says:

Fair point everyone…including Dexter’s point about Petit 😛

Politics mode OFF. Footie mode back ON.

  9. JM says:

    Arsenal upcoming pre-season friendlies:

    up in Scotland:
    vs Hibernian (Jul 13)
    vs Rangers (Jul 17)

in Orlando, Florida, for the Florida Cup:
    vs Inter Milan (Jul 25)
vs Everton/ Millonarios (from Colombia) (Jul 28)

back at Emirates stadium, The Mind Series:
    vs Chelsea (Aug 1)
    vs Tottenham (Aug 8)

Our PL campaign starts with a visit to Brentford (Aug 13), close to 1 month from now.

  10. RC78 says:

    Do you believe –
    – that we will sell Granit?
    – that we will sell Laca?
    – that we will get rid of AMN, Willock, Nelsson, Nketiah?
    – What about Cedric?

  11. Pete the Thirst says:

Be careful quoting Gary Neville as a paragon of virtue. He’s a weasel. So much cr@p comes out of his mouth it’s hard to understand.

I have few fond memories of his games against Arsenal. He kicked the living daylights out of Reyes one time at Old Trafford. Another he stood in front of the Arsenal fans at the Clock End Highbury gesturing to us to come onto the pitch for a fight. Many accepted his invitation…and were arrested for invading the pitch…

He can get in the bin with all the other sanctimonious commentators on the various TV channels.

  12. LBG says:

    RC
Mea culpa for my political rant. (And praise be Dexter and Pete).
Think Laca, Ainsley and Willock may stay.

  13. Dexter says:

    I think….

Granit is off, sold to Roma, once the cheap skates stump up a decent fee (£20m at least).

Nelson too, but hopefully just a loan.

The stuff about Bellerin seems to emniate 100% from Italy, with Inter ‘leaking details of non existent negotiations! The latest one about Hector handing in a transfer request seems really dubious. But he could be sold I think. If he and Cedric are sold, I hope AMN can get over his ego, because he could be a fantastic RB/RWB and Chambers has already shown he can play there, as well as CB.

I really don’t see any logic in selling Lacazette so hope he stays. As for Nketiah, again, this is more in hope than evidence, but a loan to a PL club, IF he can be persuaded to extend his deal, would be good.

Same applies to Saliba, it will be really interesting to see if he gets any game time in pre-season, not least as he may be needed come the start of the new season.

  14. Pete the Thirst says:

If Hector is going anywhere Milan would suit(!) him down to the ground. He could prance up and down their catwalks in his spare time displaying their latest fashions.

  15. RC78 says:

If Bello gets to Milan, it is a win-win situation for all parties but we need at least 25-30 Mln.

As for Xhaka, he can also go but after his Euro, we d need 30 Mln.

  16. RC78 says:

If Xhaka leaves, I heard the club would be interested in…Camavinga, Ndombele, Fabio Ruiz and even Renato Sanches

  17. RC78 says:

The UEFA Euro 2020 team of the tournament includes Xhaka…lol

Donnarumma – Mahele, Chiellini, Maguire, Shaw – Xhaka, Pogba – Sterling, Chiesa, Dolberg – Ronaldo

    I d have put:

Donnarumma – Dumfries, Bonucci, Maguire, Shaw – Jorginho, Philipps – Sterling, Pedri, Chiesa – Schick

  18. Pete the Thirst says:

There were a few things that happened yesterday that brought out the worst in footy fans (are they really footy fans?)

First the scenes in Leicester Square where hundreds started throwing bottles of beer around and smashing windows is bizarre. I don’t get it and this was before the match. Bizarre.

The second was the ‘steaming’ of the entrances at Wembley. Anyone who has been to Wembley would know it’s mess of a ground despite all the money that was spent (defrauded) on the redevelopment. The security is basic at best and getting into the ground is hard work. Getting away is even worse.

The word spread that it was possible to ‘jib’ into the ground through the disabled entrances. Hundreds forced their way through the cordons causing big crushes (does anybody remember what happened at Hillsborough?), then barged past disabled people trying to get into the ground. Then even more fun: England fans inside started to assault those ‘jibbing’ in to prove their self-righteousness (just the small ones though) and how tough they were.

The set up at Wembley is a joke. Always has been. But the shameful behaviour of the England fans(?) reminds me why I don’t like following the England team.

    Club over Country. Arsenal forever!

  19. RC78 says:

Saliba will join Marseille on loan (without a buying option) on Tuesday

  20. RC78 says:

    CBs out:
    – Luiz, Mavropanos, Saliba

    CBs left:
    – Holding, Gabs, Mari (eventually Chambo)

  21. RC78 says:

Edu-Arteta keen on EPL proven players:

    – Ben White
    – Ruben Neves
    – James Maddisson

  22. LBG says:

Happy Birthday Elneny. A hard working, committed Gooner.

  23. RC78 says:

Henderson – Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw – Fred, Pogba – Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford – Cavani

Not bad for Man Utd starting XI…

  24. RC78 says:

If Chelsea get Haaland, they will also be contending for the title…

If Kane joins Man City, they will remain a threat too.

Then let us see what Liverpool, Tottenham, Leicester, Everton, West Ham and Arsenal also do…

  25. RC78 says:

Saliba has landed in Marseille this morning and should be announced as a signing by O.Marseille shortly

  26. LBG says:

Thoughts on a pre- season game
    Hibernian 2 – Arsenal 1
Positives :- FIRST HALF Ainsley M-N in central midfield, strong and creative ; Nelson quick, tricky; Mari and Clarke solid; Elneny busy.
Negatives :- nervous young goalkeeper give Hibs gift of a goal. Nothing has change with Willian, Kolasinac and Soares’ defending and the profligacy of Nketiah and Aubameyang ( should have had three goals before Hibs scored.
Positives SECOND HALF – disappointingly a new team but Pepe, Smith-Rowe( goal scorer) lively ( although P missed a penalty) and creative, Partey solid and looks fitter; Lacazette MOM, usual hard work, strength on ball, bringing players around him into game.
Negatives :- nothing changed with Bellerin.
Unable to comment one way or another on two/ three youngsters on for brief time. Second goalkeeper Hine, acceptable.

    Arsenal should have one 5-2.

  27. LBG says:

    First goalkeeper Okonkwo.

  28. LBG says:

Hibernian, with Europa League spending were probably three weeks ahead of the Gunners in fitness and especially organisation.

  29. LBG says:

    pending

  30. fred1266 says:

Bellerin gets and assist and its a negative smh

  31. LBG says:

Think your videos just about prove it, Fred. And Bellerin’s assist was deflected into Smith-Rowe. Sorry and all that.

  32. fred1266 says:

But a deflected shot still count as a goal

  33. LBG says:

It was a deflected assist Fred.

  34. fred1266 says:

Still an assist, that how genius bellerin is

  35. LBG says:

    We need a new post.

  36. Dexter says:

    William Saliba….

What the hell is going on here?

Either he’s ahit and we should have sold him, or he is not quite good enough, yet, so would benefit from a loan to a PL club.

Neither has happened. I am baffled and the decision making of Arteta, Edu and others ar the club is rightly under massive scrutiny after last season.

For a club like Arsenal to fork out 27 MILLION QUID on an 18 year old defender smacks of either…

Gross negligence/incompetence or some kind of money laundering/tax evasion scheme.

Maybe that’s why Arteta doesn’t want Saliba anywhere near the club??? 🤔🤣

Fuck me, when is this club going to get MOST (not all, I’m not greedy or deluded!) decisions right? When are we going to have a well balanced squad that features (at the same time) a good keeper, decent defenders, an actual proper defensive minded midfielder, an attacking/creative number 10 and strikers who can score goals??? 🤣🤣🤣

    Oh boy….

    Up the Arse!!!

  37. RC78 says:

    Amen Dexter…lol

  38. LBG says:

    Dexter, sir,
Understand your puzzlement. Interested that you think a loan to a PL Club would be a good idea. I think he and his agent have had a preferred say, especially if Mikel is not guaranteeing him a first team place, and have opted for his home nation for next season. I think a Championship team would have been a better idea, to toughen him up and see if the ball playing ability is still evident in that league.

If Arteta has reservations at present ( perhaps even some of those evident in Guendouzi), why not give him more time to develop. Have a clause if he is pulling up the flowers up to Christmas and injuries hit, to call him back for second half of season. If we have made a mistake, sell him after he has had some time playing with us to prove one way or another. If his ability proves to be what it could be, we will still have IMO, a future diamond.

  39. Dexter says:

    LBG

It’s a weird one alright. I imagine we will be flogging him for a massive loss in 12 months time, probably to Marseille!

    Newcastle wanted him apparently too.

I know Arteta is still a rookie, finding his feet, but he seems really adept and fucking off players to the potential detriment of the club. If not in terms of using them on the pitch, but recouping as much money as we can in transfer fees.

Perhaps loaning Saliba means White is a deffo arrival (albeit for a massively inflated fee)…?

I get it, it’s the crazy season (were currently on 112 players Arsenal are signing ffs!) and there’s a shed load of BS and speculation out there. The latest stating Willock is off on loan again and Bellerin to Inter but only on a loan….

Now IF that ones true I will be pissed off! 🤣🤣🤣
