Simple question: if we could sign one player in January to really transform our prospects, who would it be?
I’d like to propose that we keep our suggestions within the realms of the possible (so no Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Dennis Bergkamp please).
Do we prioritise a striker for our goal-shy attack?
A creative midfielder or Number 10 who can make the magic happen?
A defensive midfielder to let Partey roam forward?
A goalie who doesn’t make a habit of spilling the ball onto the feet of oncoming attackers?
Maybe you feel another defender is what we need.
Whatever you think, have your say in the comments below.
My preference would be for Jack Grealish, although his star is rising so fast and ours is falling so fast that I think such a deal barely scrapes into the ‘realms of the possible’.
If not Grealish, I would go for a big, fast, powerful centre forward. I can’t give you a name that fits the bill (although Olivier Giroud from five years ago would be perfect if you gloss over the ‘fast’ bit) but I have it on good authority from my friend RC78 that the Polish forward Arkadiusz Milik, who currently plays for Napoli, is the sort of man we need.
RC78 is a keen watcher of European football so if Milik is good enough for him, he’s good enough for me.
Over to you.

We need a creator (don’t mention that layabout) so I’d get De Bruyne…and pigs will be flying overhead shortly.
Struggle with the revisionism on Giroud. Average forward who was good at holding up the ball and good with his head. Alan Smith was less glamourous but much more effective than him.
Am Alex from Kenya.l am a diehard arsenal fan.Am 17 years old.l would like to join arsenal because l believe l have great talent to take arsenal back to the ‘King’s Palace’.May you please send this message to Mikel Arteta. If he accepts my offer you can notify me.
ARSENAL FOREVER.
Well, I think Lucy has solved our problem.
Best of luck mate.
Pete, funnily enough I thought of referencing Alan Smith but thought it might be a bit dated for younger readers…
As for Ollie, there was always something frustrating about him but there was much more to him than just holding up the ball and being good in the air. Look back through his YouTube goal compilations and you’ll see some outstanding skill.
Plus his link-up play could be amazing back in the day when we had him, Jack, Santi, Rambo all playing together (that goal against Norwich for example).
So overall, not the perfect CF by a long shot, but a really decent player. If his younger self was in our team now we’d be 100% better overnight and we’d start scoring some goals again.
Obviously Szoboszlai is on the radar and it now appears Emi Buendia is.. I wouldn’t mind either, actually sod it, I’ll have both!! 😄
RC.. The big match tonight! Cavani to haunt them?! Let’s hope it’s a good game, and by that I mean a PSG win of course 😉
@Rocky – too much honor to be trusted by an expert like yourself…but I can guarantee you that Milik would be a quality addition to our squad, certainly better than Chamakh or Luca Perez.
I agree with you that Grealish would help us tremendously.
@Sue – Not sure about Buendia nor Szobo but between the two, I d take Szobo. I am so upset to face Cavani tonight, he was a fan’s favourite. Not only was he good but everybody loved his fighting spirit. Such a shame. Leonardo got it horribly wrong to let Silva and Cavani go. We re clearly missing them this year.
Also if we want to strengthen at RB, I am a fan of Mukiele. He is a good defender and can improve going forward but he is quality. He d be an improvement on Soares, Chambers and I wouldn’t even mind seing Bellerin leave if it means getting Mukiele although Mukiele would need to improve his movement going forward.
I’m amazed Fred didn’t see red, RC!!
Great win, RC 👌
And look at Giroud rolling back the years with all 4 goals at Sevilla..
Pete
What was that about Giroud? 😀
