Will the tough start break our positive spiral?

We ended the season on a high with a FA Cup Win. When the season re-started after the Covid-19 break, we had some good results against big teams like Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea but we also had tough losses against Tottenham and poor performances against Brighton and Aston Villa. Overall and with the FA Cup Win, there is a sense of positivity around the club and the feeling that we are finally moving in a good direction.

Yesterday, the FA released the fixtures and our start of the season is quite daunting with our first seven games being: Fulham (away), West Ham (home), Liverpool (away), Sheffield (Home), Man City (Away), Leicester (Home) and Man Utd (Away).

It means that our first two games are already must wins and that we must also beat Sheffield and Leicester at home – that would be 12 points out of 21 points possible. It would also hence be important to get something from the Reds, Oilers and the Red Devils…Otherwise, we would already be compromising our chances for Top 4.

Do you believe that this daunting start will act as good pressure for the team to keep on improving or do you believe these big away games are coming too soon in the season for us?

The floor is yours…

Good morning everyone – hope everyone is safe and healthy and wishing you a happy Friday! Looking forward to reading your comments.

  2. LB says:

    Bring it on………………………..

  3. Richard Morgan says:

I think it’s a good start For us it means we have to be on the ball. Yes it’s tough but they have seen how to play and beat these teams the other good thing is apart from Leicester and Chelsea the others are away. That early pressure will be good and let’s be honest apart from the city and Liverpool games the others are ones that we should be expecting to win.

  4. LBG says:

The start isn’t tough until we know how everyone starts. Certainly different teams will be good and bad. Roll on a new chapter/book. COYG.

  5. Sue says:

Tough start for us?! Surely those teams should be thinking that about us – we’re on the up and are looking gooooood!!! COYG

Now bloody announce Auba – I’m irked!!!

  6. RC78 says:

@Sue – apparently, Auba is back in London now. Gabriel’s move may be hijacked by Utd or Chelsea in the end…

  7. RA says:

    Hi RC,

That is a fair question as to whether we will fade and die like a flower in the first chill blast of the Autumn.

If you look at the early games as a whole, it becomes all too easy to conflate them and blow their potential outcome out of proportion.

It is far better to take one game at a time – first game, and then look at the next game, once the result of the first is history; and then carry on with each game as it comes up.

Mikel will, of course know that, and will make sure the team focus on each game in its turn.

The early games do not bother me — what does bother me is Sue’s spelling of ‘gooooood’!!! 🤔

  8. LBG says:

Aouar and Cherki. Two times young Lyon talents. Interested in your views RC.

  9. Akinzo says:

The way we ended the season was quite fascinating if we put into perspective how terrible we were till Mikel Arteta took over. It felt grea ending the season with a trophy but it was particularly exhilarating seeing the players able to string up passes again. This had looked an impossible feat for more than half of the season under Unai.
If there’s anything to give us positivity aside our Gunner’s DNA going into the new season, it’s the wonderful work Arteta has done in the few months he’s being in charge of the team. He has demonstrated that with the right man at the helm, we can start dreaming of a place in the top 4.
Our players have shown that when the stakes are high they can come to the party. They overcame the best that the premiership had to offer in the latter stage of the EPL and on the way to lifting the FA Cup. None of us Gunner’s felt that was achievable, especially as we had to negotiate the expensively assembled Oilers in the semis. However, it is imperative to note that despite our strong finish to the season, we had serious issues dealing with the suppossedly smaller teams who often won’t go toe to toe with us. We remain short on creativity and we resorted to adopting the tactics of these teams against sides that have become our own demons. Cooking up counter attacking tactictics against Liverpool and City may not raise eyebrows, but going against West Ham or Aston Villa won’t look pleasing to our eyes that have become accustomed to attacking football.
We have done some amazing job in the TW, but we are yet to address our lack of creativity. If we fail to do so, then I feel our bubble will quickly vaporise but if we are able to bring in at least two players that will make us stop wishing for the return of Mezut Ozil, then who says we can’t even go all out for the premiership diadem?

  10. Sue says:

I reckon we’ll get our man, RC, just media rubbish that’s all – suggesting United and co are in for him. Besides, the Mancs have too much on, trying to release their captain from police custody 😳😄
It’s. Arsenal women v PSG women, tonight RC…
    Miedema is back!!!!

Please let today be the day for Auba’s announcement 🙏🙏

  11. RC78 says:

Auba and Gabriel to be announced next week, if all goes well

AFC vs PSG game will be a cracker – both are good teams. I ll be happy with any team going through.

    Poor Maguire…He is so overrated.

  12. Sue says:

Thank you and good luck, Freddie!

  13. LB says:

Those new shirts look like a seagull has shat on them from a great height.

    Not happy……………….

  14. LB says:

    I blame the shirts………..

  15. Sue says:

I think they look like something from the Walking Dead 😂

  16. RC78 says:

Gabriel chooses AFC! Move to be finalized and announced soon.

Tonight PSG is playing its first ever CL final…Hope you will be watching and cheering for my home team! Allez Paris! Ici c’est Paris! Paris est magique!

  17. RC78 says:

Ljungberg leaves AFC – good luck to him and I am sure he was instrumental in supporting Arteta getting a FA Cup win

  18. Sue says:

Of course, RC.. Come on PSG!!

  19. RC78 says:

@Sue – thanks for your support as always…If PSG wins, Neymar and Mbappe will be released in summer 2021 but the job will be done so I ll be sad but less sad than if they left without bringing the trophy home. Our issues are our full backs – other than that, I think we can compete with Bayern – we will need a great performance from Kehrer, Bernat, Hererra and Paredes and then I trust our cluth performer Di Maria to create some magic for Neymar and Mbappe to finish Bayern off…CO PSG!

  20. RC78 says:

Gabriel Magalhaes is set to join Arsenal on Sunday after they agreed a £27m fee with Lille for the defender.

  21. RC78 says:

I believe RA was asking about Lyon’s Aouar and I can say that he is a very gifted and clever player. I think my concern with Aouar is more related to the pace and physicality of the EPL. I think his game is a lot more suited to the Spanish and Italian league so I would love for us to get him but then, I think he d need a year in a team like AC Milan, Villareal and then another year in the EPL in a team like Wolves or Everton before he can become a key Arsenal player. In terms of vision and decision-making and also endurance, there is no doubt about his talent but could he cope with the pace and physicality of the EPL remains a question mark for me…If he grows properly as a player, he definitely has the potential to be a player between Cazorla and De Bruyne

  22. Sue says:

    Amazed it’s 0-0!! Good half though…

  23. RC78 says:

Mbappe should have scored…damn it! I think the winner will take the final away with a 1-0 and within 90 mins

  24. LB says:

PSG are doing better than I expected them to do, I thought that Bayern were going to steam roller this one.

  25. LBG says:

Two finals in a week. Four teams cheating, diving, trying to fool a useless Italian referee currently. A disgraceful week of European football!

  26. Sue says:

    Gutted, RC… gutted!!

  27. RC78 says:

Inconsolable 😦 Mbappe should have buried that goal in the first half

  28. LBG says:

Said it before, say it again. In the end DB10 and now, in years to come, Patrick Vieira will team up to lead The Arsenal.
Meanwhile a decade of glorious Mikel success, please. COYG.

  29. LBG says:

    RC
Sorry for your loss. You will now have to concentrate your mind on good news coming out of The Home of Football.
It was I asking about Aouar. What about Cherki?

  30. Sue says:

    Ainsley off to Molineux?!!

  31. RC78 says:

LBG – Thanks for your kind words. Cherki is a very exciting prospect but he could end up being a great player like a hybrid between Benzema-Dybala or a good player like Llorente-Ben Arfa.

He is highly regarded and definitely got talent and all it takes to become a star but he needs time in Ligue 1 before he can be assessed properly. The kid is definitely special but will he convert his talent into greatness? Too early to say

  32. RA says:

Plenty of interesting movement with the youngsters at the moment, which is positive in a general way, altho the transfer out of Balogun disappoints me.

Apparently the enthusiasm of top fan Sue has convinced some to sign for the Gunneroonies.
    Well done Sue!!!.

Incidentally, I am worried about the Arsenal career future of young Medley (CB, midfielder) – someone I really rate – is very much in doubt after the ridiculous permanent signing of Luiz and Mari, especially as the transfer of Marguilez in addition to Saliba is almost complete – allegedly.

Oh well – c’est la vie.

  33. fred1266 says:

Anyone else heard AMN to Everton or wolves, hope this ent true

  34. LB says:

It seems inevitable that that is going to happen, I think he could do well at Wolves, good manager and all. I wish him well if he does fly the nest.

  35. fred1266 says:

If he goes wolves wonder what position he would play though

  36. LBG says:

    RA
Medley is really a centre back, and like Mavrapanos has gone out on loan. I predict both could still make it for us, but otherwise will command decent fees after another years experience.

  37. LBG says:

Sokratis and Mustafi and possibly Chambers, if Fulham bid for him, and/or Holding will be sacrificed soonest.

  38. RC78 says:

    Rocky? Where are you?…

There was an article on skysports about Saliba-Gabriel as our defense for the next decadre and another one on AMN joining Wolves. Worth the read…

If AMN leaves, I d be sad but he needs to play so…I d suggest adding a buy back clause – that is all

  39. RA says:

    RC,

No idea where the Magnificent Rocky is.

Fingers crossed that he will return soon.

Thank you again for all your hard work with Posts. 😁

  40. RA says:

    LBG,

Thanks for the info on Medley, I did not know he had gone out on loan.

I can still hope he gets a chance to make his career at Arsenal – maybe in a year or so, after Luiz, SocratesMustafi and co are let go.

Apart from physique, skill and quality he has youth on his side which is all to the good.

  41. Sue says:

Well, howdy, Mr Wichita 🤠 Hope all is well with your rootin’ tootin’ self!!
4 days until our next game…and I have to admit, this transfer window is driving me stark raving mad – I guess we’re on the same wavelength then, at long last 😂😜
How long does it take to sign a piece of paper and take a few photos??!! 🤪 I was hoping whoever we wanted to buy would be bought and settled by the time September 12 arrives… silly me!!
