What would success this season look like to you?

As we are now only 3 months away from the end of the season and we are also 2 months into the Arteta regime, it is a good time to assess or re-assess our expectations for this season.

We started the season poorly and until the end of December, there was a disconnect between the team and the fans to add to the abysmal team performances and results.

Arteta arrived and injected some life and passion into the players and the fans responded. Some results were very positive and others were painful like the loss to Chelsea and Olympiakos but overall, the team is in a more upwards and positive trajectory.

With the Europa League out of our reach now and with the Top 4 seemingly out of our reach too, the FA Cup seems to have become a major priority.

What would it take for you to call the Arsenal season a success given our poor form in the first part of the season?

From my side – success would be:- a top 6 finish (ideally being ahead of the Spurs); – an FA Cup triumph;- Arteta already having the 2020-2021 first XI in his head, which would integrate some of our promising young players like Saka and Martinelli;-Convincing Auba to stay with us.

  1. Thank you RC78 for the post.

I’d like to vote for all three but when compiling the poll I think I forgot to leave it open to multiple answers 😳 and I’m not around to change that. Maybe someone else will do it like magic 😉

Is Top 6 now a Trophy? FA Cup for me.

Thanks RC. Cant vote because need multiple vote.
Dont think top five is out of reach…..so…..Top 5, Champions League next season, and FA Cup win against Manure.
Anything but Thursday and Sunday next season would do me, in fact!

    Nice one, RC 👍
I’d love to win the FA cup!

  5. LB says:

How about the knowledge that I support the greatest club in the world.

Chelsea, Man U and Tottenham collapsing and Arsenal finishing 4th would be amazing, if unlikely.

So I voted winning the FACup.

Naturally I’d like to win the FA Cup, finish top four etc etc.

But I’m trying to be realistic and therefore I’ve voted based on what the minimum achievement is to consider this transitional season a success.

So I’ve gone for top 6/7, although I really think top 6.

I am not sure that I would be that upset if Auba left.

He reminds me of Ian Wright, in that before he came Alan Smith, Merson and others were knocking in the goals with gay abandon.

When he came, the whole style had to be changed to accommodate his style of play, so that in the end, he was the only one who was scoring.

The number of goals we scored went down drastically as everything was built around him.

I think the same is now with Auba.

He seems to be the only one scoring because the system is built around giving him the opportunities.

If he was to go, the players we have will pick up the slack and more..

By the way, FA cup for me every time.

  10. Aaron says:

    FA Cup, Top 4.

That way the Arsenal get some player $, we all know we will not get otherwise.

Shipping out the deadwood would be on that list too, Miki, Elneny, and whoever else in not in Mikel’s plans next year.

  11. LBG says:

Saliba top quality as he helps St Etienne to first French Cup Final since 1982.
Our own VVD is coming next year. Please stay fit, young man.

  12. Sue says:

Ooh la la… Alisson is injured and will miss Bournemouth and Atletico! After watching Adrian against Chelsea, that is bloody brilliant news!!

  13. Sue says:

    I really hope Auba stays…….

Success will be measured by each result and the consistency of performance of each player who proves himself capable of achieving standards of excellence required to move the club forward. All players experienced or otherwise need to rise to the occasion giving Arteta the insight to decide the best options for next season whether it be internal promotion or external procurement

  18. RC78 says:

Winning the Fa Cup seems to be the benchmark for success this season
