January. Same message from the Boss, “we are actively looking but it is difficult”. Cobblers. There have been some excellent signings in January – Aubameyang, Arshavin, Reyes, Louis Suarez, Van Dijk, Walcott, Giroud, Coutinho, the list is long.
It comes down to money and contracts.
Of more interest is just where on the pitch Emery will be looking to improve the squad.
So far we’ve had talk of ……
Denis Suarez, a midfielder and presumably possible replacement for Ramsey
Yannick Carrasco, a Belgian left winger
plus
James Rodriguez, attacking midfielder/winger, Galactico (seems a luxury player which is the last thing we need IMO)
All this talk of players for the front half of the team may just be clickbait, as that’s obviously where the sexy stuff occurs. Losing Danny W. also means that an injury to Laca or Auba may leave us short of experienced back up.
Surely our problems this season have come from a lack of quality in the back half of the pantomime cow? Clean sheets are a rarity and we never look comfortable holding a lead. Talking of Holding, losing him has put a big dent in the quality, composed side of our central defending and losing Nacho and Hector, the same with our full back options.
Where would you like to see Unai and Arsenal’s new super-duper purchasing team bolster the squad in the next three weeks?
BR and chas
Morning All,
Particularly enjoyed this, “Surely our problems this season have come from a lack of quality in the back half of the pantomime cow?”.
Who is the Ginge the pic?
Mislintat, the scruffy bastard!
Really! He doesn’t look anything look I imagined him. Where is the suit?
LBG was wrong. A clear dive. Offside, No penalty. Yellow card. Excommunication. Deportation.
damn, I voted for CB before I saw the glove butler option
BR, you are a mere glove butler for AAers!
I just read that Spuds new stadium opening will be around the time we play them but they would prefer to delay so that their first game is not against us in case they lose. Now that would be funny
VP
My reading for possible delay is concern on part of Spuds that “souvenirs ” will be taken from the new Shithole!
Firstly who would want to go to the new Shithole. Secondly, picking up “souvenirs” would be like handling Novichok, surely.
Or up his ****!
Thought the poll would be 100% CB, would like to know why other didn’t vote CB
Great post. I would strengthen our Defensive Mid as a priority.
DM / CB / Winger-FW
DM: Gueye or Doucoure or Allan or Ndombele or Paredes
CB: We need a cheap option here to be able to splurge this summer
Winger-FW: Apaprently we are after Carrasco but as yo know, I d rather go for Douglas Costa. If Carrasco is cheap, let us get him. He is not bad at all.
Those pictured back in full training. Micki back in Feb.
Fred – my priority is still DM because I just feel that our back-line gets exposed a lot because of poor shielding especially from Xhaka. Also, we have so many defenders now (granted they are not great) but we do not have enough midfield enforcers so I would really address this priority now and address the CB this summer once we clear out the clutter in that area and can buy a really good CB which may only be available then…except Aldewereid – which other good CB will be available this month…? For CM/DM,there are more options. By the way, Suarez is another Ramsey so he is not great at defending, he is very good at driving the ball forward but he is very excentric in his passing choice at times
My ideal line up in Jan:
Leno – Mustafi, Aldewereid or Bailly, Sokratis – Bellerin, Torreira, DOUCOURE, Kola – Laca, Auba, CARRASCO (or Iwobi)
I went for a CB…a big fecker who can get his bonce on a cross. A temporary deal might have to do, as I don’t think we can afford the type of one we really need right now.
I two minds about it though, as reinforcing the attack to simply try to outscore the opponents (as we’ve been doing quite a lot of) and to have some in to replace the dearly departing, looks like a good idea too.
Still, jumped off my fence…a CB.
I think one player that should be given more chances in midfield is AMN maybe as a winger first but the guy has the talent to be a top player – I hope he does fullfil his potential
Yah, real players back in training, not been easy trying to get excited with Iwobi when you know you could and should be watching Ozil.
I had my finger over the right wing but then thought of AM-N and pressed the correct button.
I like everyone hope AM-N fulfils his potential and finds his way to the midfield but I don’t think he is ready yet. I am comfortable with his present pace of integration.
Thanks for the read.
So it’s bye bye Aaron. Thanks for the Cup Final goals and a few others. Wish you luck, and hope you don’t end up on the bench. Still a Europa Cup and top four finish to win.
Unrelated. If you are of an age, recommend Bohemian Rhapsody to all AAers ( Even if you are not of an age). The greatest live group I have ever seen. Led by a broken genius. Brian May said “everybody leaving the film tell me they were crying”. Not ashamed, I was!
Thanks Chas and Erik
I did my best by voting twice, but with the overwhelming majority thinking the solution to not winning more games is to do even more defending, then it’s no surprise the country is in such a sorry state 🙂 🙂
So Ramsey to go for free in the summer
How hard will he try now then? Doesn’t appear a very clever deal from our perspective (if the report I’ve just seen is true)
yes LBG, Bohemian Rhapsody was a great movie but if you want gritty realism and authenticity of great english legends, then go no further than watching the new Holmes & Watson movie. Brilliant depiction of a bygone era…
I’d imagine Ramsey wouldn’t want to go now even if we wanted him to.
The club getting no transfer fee for him massively boosts what he was able to wangle out of Juve.
i.e. Juve’s Ramsey budget goes all to Aaron instead of partly to Arsenal FC.
Good. Ramsey can feck off. Losing him for free. Has got to be up there for worst bit of Arsenal squad management.
Bring in a big CB. Nab Cahill from Chelsea. He’ll do. Seems like God damn dejuvu – felt like we’ve needed a CB and DM for over a decade now. Let’s get Sol And Flamini back…oh we’ve already done that. What I would give for a fit Vermaelen type and an Arshavin type impact player. Remember when he came? What a boost he gave us…thought or was a dream that he ended up at Arsenal over somewhere like Real Madrid.
Chas
Yip, I get that, and my possibly dodgy article says he’s getting £140k a week, which staggeringly puts him 2nd behind the Lady Boy
If it is a done deal I’d tell him to fuck off now
Question: if this is the deal, I wouldn’t imagine Juve would be happy if Ramsey plays no football for the next six months, so what does Emery do, as I’d be amazed if he was happy with the idea of selecting someone who was not part of the future?
That’s been the case for the past 5 months – what’s different?
True, but some may have believed the withdrawal of the contract was a negotiating tactic and therefore leaving ambiguity, so until a deal is done, there’s no deal
Now it’s done. He’s off
Maybe shed loads hoped it was a tactic to get Rambo to lower his wage demands.
I think that when it came down to it, Aaron wants a change and you’d have to say that it’ll probably be good for him.
Maybe, also, Unai is and always has been, fully aware that this was the case and agreed to the one last season scenario.
NEW (filler) POST
Morning All,
What could Ramsey have done any different? He wanted to stay, AFC wouldn’t stump up the cash, so he makes the sensible decision to go to a CL club where he will win a cabinet full of trophies and a bucket load of cash.
AFC thinking it was possible to negotiate by withdrawing the contract proposal, if true, failed spectacularly. More egg on faces.
Good luck to AR, he has been great for us.
