A Last Hurrah.

Final PM of the season and Your Foreign Correspondent is away on manoeuvres, but being a man with a sense of duty this post is being written before WHU (hopefully) beat MU .

Unknown-1.jpeg

Villa come to the Emirates after what must be their worst season in living memory. 3 managers , 3 wins all season, the draw with N’castle gave them their first point in 10 games. An angry fanbase, an owner who lives 5 thousand miles away and doesn’t appear to give a damn, players who are equally dispassionate, It is a shambles.

Could Villa win today?

They better not!!

I have no doubt Villa will be looking for a battling performance after all these are professional men playing for their careers. Some who are at the end of their contracts will be desperate to show they have value, others, like Lescott and Abangymethingy are already multi-millionaires and perhaps not so committed but this afternoon will not be an easy victory – we will have to play well to win.

Pressure. Can this Arsenal team respond to pressure? Well, we are on a unbeaten 9 game PL run, have shown character to come back from losing positions against MC, WHU and Spurs, so the answer should be Yes.

The Last time we played AV on our Final game of the Season

A huge fillip is the return of our midfield, any team would struggle without such vital players. That said, as soon as a few come back a couple of England Internationals get long-term injuries!

We all know the value of 3 points today especially if The Miscreants fail up at St. James Pk. How funny would that be?  😀

The team: I would start the same chaps who got the draw at City with Ozil replacing Welbz.

Cech

Bellerin     Gabriel      Koscielny     Monreal

Ramsey      Elneny     Iwobi/Wilshere

Sanchez     Giroux     Ozil

Given how important Mr Wenger views the Euro’s I would not be surprised to see Wilshere start in place of Iwobi allowing Ramsey to play further forward.

Coquelin: Is he on the naughty step? He is fit so why isn’t he starting? He has gone from being one of the first names on the team sheet to riding the pine without any discernible reason.

I am sure Santi will get some pitch time in order for the fans to show their love. Rumours are that he is off in summer though my hope is that he continues to entertain us for a couple more seasons.

No excuses – we have to win this afternoon. The tough work was done up in Manchester now the lads have to finish their season in style.

Let it be so …

p.s. This being my final pre-match of an exciting campaign may I take this opportunity to thank all those who have read my views and contributed to the discussions.

    Excellent, BR.
A massive thanks to you for the huge amount of effort you put in doing these boggers throughout the season.
They are always easy and fun to read and you always get the team bang on.
    MWG today!

Last Ant and Happy Pony day out of the season. Expect mild inebriation.

    We might later..

  7. Happy Pony says:

Only 5 new massive signings, Dylan?
    Where’s your ambition?

  8. Ant says:

This is how I feel about BR’s superb pre match posts.

  9. Ant says:

Not enough strikers in that team Bobbie mate!

  12. Eddie says:

Surely you are not drinking at 9am??????!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Ant says:

9.12am is a respectable hour oh lovely one

  14. Ant says:

Anyway I still have 9,997 Nottingham Gooners to talk to.

  15. Happy Pony says:

    Eddie
We are on a train that is reserved up to the rafters with Leicester fans heading off down to Stamford Bridge.
We just thought we’d join the party.

Just as you are going to celebrate with the spuds. 🙂

  16. Eddie says:

Thank you for an excellent PM Raddy!
It made me a bit nervous – I never considered we could not win today. is it possible to lose to Villa? Nay, no way

Big win today to wrap up a great season. Well, great for Leicester and Spurs, not us. But hey, we are in top 4, it is like a trophy, init

it is your final PM today and my final day as an Arsenal supporter. I am moving to pastures new and will decide this summer which team to support now. Watford, Swansea and WHU are top contenders. will let you know in August

  17. GoonerB says:

Many thanks Raddy. If only the team had exhibited the same quality as the Raddy pre-matches this season today could have been a big party. Your efforts are duly noted and appreciated Raddy.

I see that we have a new striker up top that I was unaware about. Giroud with the “x” factor…….exactly what we have been needing. I presume he is technical quick and mobile and regularly bangs in 25 a season? I don’t care about the quality of his haircut and whether he looks good on the front cover of Vogue:)

  18. Ant says:

  19. Eddie says:

Pony – Really? Foxes going to the Bridge? That’d be a good game to see. If I were you I’d go with the rest of the travellers

Ant – you confused me!! you said on Friday that you’d be talking to 9997 Gunners tomorrow. That is why I thought the game was on Saturday and was promptly told off by your companion.

  20. Ant says:

I can’t believe you’re confused Eddie. I think you should support Barnet next year or switch to rugby union and support Saracens.

  21. Happy Pony says:

    Eddie
Supporting some shite team might do you good.
Da grass is always greener, innit. 🙂

  22. Ant says:

Do you think the Spuds can blow it at Newcastle today Eddie? I will be laughing all the way home if that happens. Great season for Spurs..hee hee.
And we won the FA cup yesterday.

  23. Ant says:

Are you at the Kings Head today Gooner B?

  24. Eddie says:

No Ant, lasagne miracle won’t happen again.
The Spuds will be laughing all the way home tonight, not us.

Happy – good idea, Barnet is very local!

see you, off to the Great Woods of Northaw

  25. Rasp says:

Thank you Raddy, and to echo chas, thank you for all your excellent PMs this season.

I’m hoping today will be a celebration of Arsenal football and the supporters will stay behind to thank the players.

It would be wonderful to finish second but I doubt that will happen so I’m just looking forward to a classy performance and the chance to say goodbye to some great players who will be leaving us.

  26. fatgingergooner says:

I’m going for 5-0 today. I reckon the boys the will put in a real shift. Great day to celebrate the likes of of Rosicky, Arteta and Flamini.

  27. Ant says:

The Spud won’t be laughing even if they finish above us.. They bottled it!

  28. Janman says:

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to contribute to this blog site. It is one of the best around and the regular posters are always up for posting some good discussion topics. I read whenever I can but will rarely post (for various reasons). Lets’ hope the Arsenal give a great performance today and that Spurs lose and we finish up second. Either way, 2nd or 3rd, we are in better shape than many give us credit for. Have a great day you Gooners!

  29. kelsey says:

Thanks for your tireless work Raddy and you know I am one of your ardent followers but if we slip up today it will be you and Eddie who will have put the bock on it (for various reasons) and i will personaly come over to the land of Hans Christian Anderson and slice off your bolloxs ,Eddie is excluded.

I would also like to thank Rasp and peaches for keeping the blog going and Rasp wins the biggest doomer prize on here for the third consecutive year,

Chas and Ant, the cholestral Kings with their ardent support especially Away despite some absolute dire performances.

Micky who is a real gent and a good friend and everyone else who puts up with me from time to time as I don’t blog as much as I used to (for various reasons)

I wish you all a Happy Day xx

  30. kelsey says:

Also it made my day that we came 24th out of 26 in The Eurivision Song Contest, and Germany came last 😉

Last Hurrah for the 3 Kings: Rosický, Flamini & Arteta

  32. TotalArsenal says:

Eddie, please can you take Piers Morgan with you? 😜

Raddinski, many thanks for your fine previews this season which never fail to wet the game appetite. That is a gift. They are also great examples that to make a point you do not need to repeat it continuously, yet you leave plenty to ponder about. 😄

  33. TotalArsenal says:

Kelsey, I thought the Spanish entry was good.

  34. JM says:

Arsenal vs Aston Villa (Mark Clattenburg) – dodgy
Man Utd vs Bournemouth (Jonathan Moss) – dodgy
Newcastle vs Spurs (Anthony Taylor) – dodgy
Swansea vs Man City (Mike Dean) – dodgy

    Expect the Unexpected.

  35. JM says:

From The Guardian, extract from “The Romford Pele: It’s Only Ray Parlour’s Autobiography”:

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/may/14/ray-parlour-autobiography-arsene-wenger-thierry-henry-steve-bould

    RP:
I still want Arsène to be successful. It meant a lot to see him win those two FA Cups in 2014 and 2015 and get back to winning ways. Nobody deserves to win the league one more time more than him. The club have stuck by him and he has stuck by them and that is so unusual in the modern game. Moving from Highbury to the Emirates, the new training ground, whoever takes over from Arsène owes him a lot. What he has achieved he can walk away a proud man.

If some people didn’t rate me that highly I don’t mind that. The most important person to rate you is the manager, and luckily enough someone as high class as Arsène Wenger really rated me for the best part of a decade.

I always say: you can’t win the league with 10 Thierry Henrys or 10 Tony Adams. You have to have the mixture, the blend of qualities. Probably my best attribute is I never knew when I was beaten. I gave every ounce every game. That gave me a buzz. You know full well if you played well or not when you walk off the pitch. You should never walk off thinking: “I should have done a bit more today.” You have good and bad games but I believe in every one I gave my all.

  36. fatgingergooner says:

Suarez has 14 goals in 5 La Liga games….and people say the Spanish League is easy! 😄

  37. fatgingergooner says:

    JM,

You dick! I’m currently reading that book and you just told me the ending! 😂😂😂😂

Good time to thank everyone on the blog. It’s a pleasure to share the Arsenal season with you all. Great banter and even better discussions about all things Arsenal. 👍

  38. RA says:

Well done Giant Daddy, Randy, Dandy Raddish, BR as you are collectively known from time to time, Raddy. 😀

Have a nice rest and come back refreshed in August for another season of prematch corkers!

  39. RA says:

Hiya, Ant, Duck, Happy Hoss, Video Boss and charming bon vivants! 😀

You will probably be boozed already by the time you read this – enjoy the day the pair of you.

  49. mickydidit89 says:

    Erik

Can I join others in thanking you for all your work this season. It is much appreciated and always sets us up with your eloquent, albeit slightly laid back, style.

    I bow 🙂

  50. fatgingergooner says:

Crazy scenes at Old Trafford. Sounds like they are going to do a controlled explosion.

Things going well for us so far though. Another goal would be nice.

  51. mickydidit89 says:

    Crystals

Whilst I may agree with you, remember this, the sun shines, we’re winning while Spurs are doing what they do best.

We have a summer to doom. Not now 🙂

  52. mickydidit89 says:

    FGG

Bombs aside, if City win, the Utd game is irrelevant.

Hope once all the people are safe, the controlled explosion goes horribly wrong, and the whole Toilet goes up in smoke 🙂

This could be a great day 🙂

  53. mickydidit89 says:

    Finally

Great work Ant and Pony. Keeping site standards lowered 🙂

    Eddie

  54. fatgingergooner says:

WOW WOW WOW What a day

  82. Aaron says:

    Arsenal and Arsene are great!

All of the money those teams spent, the better managers, blah blah blah..
    Good day it is!

  83. Rasp says:

    Check out the banner 🙂

  84. Janman says:

Congratulations Arsenal FC and everyone associated to the club.Yet again Spurs show their true colours and choke!! I wish that some folks would not post during the game as the comments are emotional and often pointless! Again, well done Arsenal FC. Yes we are a club in crisis 🙂 How about we all just support the team and leave the rest to the experts after all they do know more than us fans. Although if we did not express opinions we would not be classed as fans. Well done the Arsenal

  85. Janman says:

Love the banner Rasp. Okay I am off with the wife for a nice meal down town. Come on you Gunners!!!

  89. kelsey says:

Somehow Spurs have managed to turn our terrible season around, unite the fanbase and give us all something to look forward to next season. You’ve gotta love em 🙂

  90. Gööner In Exile says:

This youngster hardly ever played for the first team yet he gets it

There’s a reason why players love the club and on their last game they are moved to tears like Artetawas today. Some may say the club has changed…..but in a lot of ways it’s still the same the players have always been looked after the club has always done things with class, such that hardly any player who leaves the club has a bad word to say about how they were treated.

  91. fatgingergooner says:

A that out highest finish at the Em’s?

Fair play to Leicester. 81 points is a great effort. We came up short but finishing above Spurs on the last day is a nice ending. Just a shame we couldn’t finish 1 place higher.

    Looking forward to next season.

  92. Happy Pony says:

    Sat next to Poxytino

  93. Ant says:

Finish this line..Eddie says that the Spuds will not bottle it and will finish second or…..

Best answer wins a fun day out with Ant and the Happy Hysterical Pissing himself laughing Pony

  94. fatgingergooner says:

*Is that our highest finish at the Em’s?

  95. Ant says:

  99. LB says:

The problem with today was that it was so predictable…….

Sometimes football really is a great game.

  100. Gööner In Exile says:

    Even Super Nicklas Bendtner

  101. OMG how good was today 😃😃😃

Well done Arsenal and the lap of appreciation was properly supported

  102. Gööner In Exile says:

Someone remind me…..was it Newcastle who scored the phantom equaliser that time?

    Hahah LB

  103. Rasp says:

GiE, love those Ollie stats! 😂

  112. LB says:

I would go as far as saying that if the same thing happend to Arsene Wenger as did to Podgytino social media would have gone into melt down in its demand for Wenger’s head.

  113. LB says:

I am going to make a prediction

    Drum roll…………………………..

I am going to stick my neck out and say that Podgy will leave Tottenham before Arsene Wenger leaves Arsenal.

    Blimey
Hard to believe yesterday happened in such spectacular fashion

Should keep us all feeling warm and fuzzy for a while

  173. mickydidit89 says:

    Eddie

Weren’t you supposed to meet a Spud at some pre arranged place after the final game?

  174. Gööner In Exile says:

Was thinking that myself Micky, a 1-0 win for us and a 1-0 loss for them would have been fun….but nowhere near this level of hilarity, I reckon we can get a good weeks worth of fuzziness from the fact they capitulated in such heroic fashion.

  175. mickydidit89 says:

    ha ha ha
Just wondering what fuzzy people look like. Must be a cheesy grin and a wobbly aura

  176. mickydidit89 says:

They are most definitely NOT FUZZY

Look, I know we’re all grown up, reasonably intelligent people, and occasionally mature, I also know there is more to ending above Spurs, but dear god, yesterday was very very funny

  180. Morning happy bunnies

Does anyone have time to write a post for today ………

I’ll have a go, peaches, though it’s almost impossible to do it justice.

  184. Rasp says:

Yesterday was amazing and I now dub 2015/16 a successful season 🙂

But …. just imagine if Leicester hadn’t come out of nowhere and we were battling with totnum to win the league yesterday …. how good would that have been? 🙂 🙂 🙂

  185. Eddie says:

my dear god, I still cannot believe it, how could they flop it in such spectacular fashion? You have to give them credit – nobody else could do it better

I suppose I will have to support Arsenal for another season.

  186. Eddie says:

    very good Rasp,

I am off to find that toothless spineless Spud in trent 🙂

  187. Rasp says:

Is that your forfeit then Eddie?

  188. Eddie says:

you worry about your own forfeit! I happen to know how you felt all season about the Club, all right?

I am far from happy, just happier about the unbelievable outcomes yesterday. Football is a funny game, but this season it has been crazy. Probably never again we will see such results though

  189. Rasp says:

What the hell is it with you and Kelsey???? I’m about the most honest blogger on here in terms of writing what I think. I’ve been critical of our style of play and asked for change – but without ever being disrespectful to Arsene.

I’ve always supported the team and certainly not got into the negative repeat myself spiral that others drag the blog down with. I have no problem in admitting that we’ve actually had quite a good season as it turns out.

I was brought up to think that there is no excuse for rudeness!

  190. Eddie says:

don’t get your knickers in a twist, I am only pulling your leg

  191. kelsey says:

it was meant to be tongue in cheek Rasp and take the pressure off me :)Anyway now we have to try and keep hold of Sanchez.

I definitely have very high expectations when we are so close and time and time again we get let down. However, was an enjoyable day even if it did paper over the cracks.

i think I and one or two others always write what they think and aren’t disrespectful to Wenger.

  192. Rasp says:

It’s all about personnel. With Cazorla back yesterday, suddenly our style of football worked (admittedly only against Villa) – but with Ramsey in Cazorla’s role our possession was less meaningful.
