Heroes and Villains

Remember the opening game of last season? Remember the final whistle? The feeling of angst and anger following the disappointment of losing 1-3 to Villa pervaded the club. Perhaps that atmosphere created the determination which drove us to be top at Xmas (brilliantly predicted by Rocky Lives).

What has changed since then?

Ozil, Alexis, Chambers, Bellerin, Ospina, Welbeck, Debuchy. Quite an ensemble. Are we better? The points tally would say No.

I would be shocked if Villa scored 3 times this afternoon – they have been through difficult times, scoring just 11 goals – 9 less than the next worst (Hull), 28 less than The Arsenal and have scored one goal or less in their last 19 away games! Yet, their last game showed improvement, Villa beat high-flying Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Lambert is yet another of the hyped managers who have been trumpeted by the media as the next big thing; like Laudrup, Clarke, AVB etc etc he is proving how difficult the PL can be.ย  Do you think that if Mr Wenger managed Aston Villa they would be a better club and team? Of course they would.

Having won our last 4 games with increasing panache the portents are definitely for an Arsenal win but I have been supporting this team for too long to take a win for granted. This will not be a walkover – Villa have some excellent players; Benteke would flourish at The Emirates, Delph is a better Coquelin, the goal from new-signing Gil shows he is a talent, their defence is strong especially at CB. Beating them will require Arsenal to be in top form.

ย UnknownBenteke praying for AW to sign him

Enough of them, what about us? Selection is interesting as the long-term injured return to fitness and the first team. To Ozil or not? To Walcocott or not? To drop the excellent Rosicky or not? Ospina or TPIG? etc etc

Here’s my tuppence worth. Defence: Ospina has to start. Then it is Chambers or Bellerin. Given the pace of Villa’s attack (Ang-backdoor etc) I would start Bellerin. CB pick themselves. Monnreal desrves to keep his place after a good run of form.

Coquelin or Flamini? Coq deserves to continue. Tomas or Aaron? Sorry Mozart, but Aaron is essential. As wonderful as Tomas is I prefer the youth and power of Ramsey. Cazorla is undroppable, which leaves the attack.

Given the absence of Alexis I would play Ozil, OG and Theo.

Can you name all the managers of English clubs who have won the European Cup? Have a try.

Clough is easy, so is Paisley, SAF, Busby,. You may struggle with Fagan’s Liverpool or to remember it was Di Matteo who lifted Big Ears with Chelsea. But if I told you that Aston Villa have won the European Cup could you recall their manager without Googling? No? Neither could I ๐Ÿ˜€ (answer below)

Given yesterday’s results and the improvement in form of both the Knuckle-Draggers and the Hub-Cap Barons we need to in today. If we don’t it will be a huge disappointmet. But we will.

Too depressed watching yet another England batting collapse to write more.

    Proper Hippies making great music.

  2. Love that song… my favorite Beach Boys. If I remember correctly it was the B Side of Good Vibrations:-)

We’ll win today Hippy man, no doubt about it. The draw yesterday between the money men means we get that lttle bit closer.

Thanks for the pre match Raddy, reliable as ever, not really a hippy trait ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. chas mobile says:

    Cracking, BR.

    Ant suggested Benitez, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all, nice one Raddy,
Centrebacks pick themselves Raddy, i would have thought that this match was a good opportunity to start our New man but maybe you see it differently.

Rosiski has played very well and while in good form i feel he should also be a starter, Aaron has not been at his best and i would only use him when the game has been wrapped up, Yes i am expecting a win at home, and in form playing a team near the bottom i would expect a win. All teams pose risks and Villa are no different but to beat us at home playing like we can must not be on the cards.

Ospina or TPig must be Ospina, couple of clean sheets and i like the calmness he shows, not keen on his fumbles but hopefully that will not be a problem.

Will be interesting how Wenger see’s it, but we need to keep climbing, three points today would put us 2 points closer to the leaders and against this kind of opposition we should cruise.

    3.0 to us COYRRG’s

  5. Rasp says:

Lovely PM Raddy – it gave me Good Vibrations ๐Ÿ˜›

I thought it was 26May who predicted we’d be top at Christmas?

Any way, this is a CLG (MWG in Room 101) ๐Ÿ˜† after yesterday’s results. Of course we have the fire power and we’ve had a bit of a rest in terms of games per week, let’s hope we are sharp and at ’em from the start.

  6. Could Jock Stein be included in that list?

  7. Big Raddy says:

And Ant would be right. Well played that man

  8. Fine pre-match BR, thank you.

Can I name the next manager of an English club to win the Champions League?…….Arsene Wenger!!

  9. So this is where Alexis got the idea of raising one half of his shorts… Gervinho is his role model

  10. Big Raddy says:

Rasp. You are right, it was 26. Hope he is well wherever he is.

Stein is a Jock as his name suggests and so was his club. I said English clubs.

  11. LB says:

    Thanks BR

    Always appreciated.

  12. fatgingergooner says:

Need a big win today to give us momentum going into the Spurs game. Players need to make sure they apply the same focus as at City away.

Without Sanchez it’s a great opportunity for someone like ร–zil to run the match.

    4-0 to us.

  13. Ant says:

  14. SAF was also a Jock… but I thought you would be less jingoistic Raddy, could have said ‘British’ clubs ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Ant says:

    With snow on his head

  16. Did you know that Bob Paisley was in a management role at Liverpool for 24 years… asst manager 1958-74 and manager 1974-83.

  17. Big Raddy says:

Looks more a heavy rocker than a rapper.

NB. We ex-pats are nearly all jingoistic ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. What Pub Ant? I need to know these things ready for my trip to London in April ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. I must admit Raddy, the longer I live abroad, the more I become ‘English’ ha ha

  20. Looks as if it is yet another defeat for the forlorn hope Andy Murray, two sets to one down and 0 – 3 in the fourth. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  21. NG

    But he’s a Jock…. why waste your time ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. RA says:

    Good stuff, Randy, ๐Ÿ™‚

I did not have a clue who the AV manager was when they won the European Cup as the Champions League competition was then known — and now I know, I still do not know, if you understand what I mean.

Tony Barton father of Farten Barton?

  23. Yep! 0 – 6 in the fourth set, better luck next time Andy, but don’t hold your breath. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  24. Big Raddy says:

So far a terrible day for Raddy.

Dreadful re-run of Chav game. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
    Watched the England innings ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
    And Murray loses ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Next up AFC and then the Patriots. Hoping for better.

  25. Here’s the starting X1

    13 Ospina
    39 Bellerin
    04 Mertesacker
    06 Koscielny
    18 Monreal
    34 Coquelin
    16 Ramsey
    14 Walcott
    19 Cazorla
    11 ร–zil
    12 Giroud

  26. And the subs,

    01 Szczesny
    03 Gibbs
    05 Gabriel
    07 Rosicky
    20 Flamini
    21 Chambers
    38 Akpom

  27. Rasp says:

Raddy’s team was spot on ๐Ÿ™‚ – its just been announced

  28. Alexis to miss two games on the trot. God help the Spuds if he’e let loose next week. ๐Ÿ˜€

  29. Rasp says:

Arsenal: Ospina, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Ramsey, Walcott, Cazorla, Ozil, Giroud. Subs: Szczesny, Gibbs, Gabriel, Rosicky, Flamini, Chambers, Akpom.

Aston Villa: Guzan, Hutton, Okore, Clark, Richardson, Delph, Gil, Sanchez, Cleverley, Benteke, Weimann. Subs: Sinclair, Baker, Bacuna, Agbonlahor, Westwood, Cissokho, Given.

  30. Rasp says:

    Doh, trumped by NG ๐Ÿ™„

  31. Eddie says:

ha ha ha rasp, I was just about to say that I agree with Raddy’s selection ๐Ÿ™‚
    Especially Ospina and undroppable Santi

Thanks for the PM Raddy, match days wouldn’t be the same without

  32. RA says:

So, Chezzer off in the summer then?

I still rate him over Ospina – altho’ I have not seen much of Osp in truth.

  33. Rasp says:

Hi Eddie, I think Raddy and AW have picked the best possible starting 11, its now down to the team to make the superiority of the individuals count!

  34. Eddie says:

they will, rest assured! They are on the winning streak and they are loving it. They beat City away fair and square, they will not roll over for Villa

  35. Well at least the back four have played together a few times, Has Ospina played behind this particular line-up?

Ramsey and Le Coq to provide the shield.

Cazorla and Ozil to provide the craft, Walcott the pace and Giroud the blunt trauma. ๐Ÿ˜€

Keep it tight, score early, keep it tight, score again, get another before half time. Relax and play tika taka for the second half. Get a penalty around sixty minutes, Job Done!

    C’mon The Glorious Gunners.

  36. Rasp says:

๐Ÿ˜† the BBC are listing Gabriel (Paulista) as de Abreu on their site.

They always used to call Diaby Vassiriki. Shame they’re not so particular when it comes to choosing their pundits ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  37. mickydidit89 says:

Can’t beat getting home to a BR with 20 mins to KO

Quite like the team. Would have started with Theo central and Mozart Right myself, but hey ho

  38. mickydidit89 says:

    Norfolk

Like the “Giroud the blunt trauma”
But harsh on Andy Murray. He has two slams, and reckon he’ll still get one or two more.

  39. RA says:

    Raddy,

I saw your comment about your day —

    — “So far a terrible day for Raddy.

Dreadful re-run of Chav game – Watched the England innings – And Murray loses.”

Could I suggest, in the nicest possible way, that you sod off until after the game so that you do not do a Jonah on the lads? ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Eddie says:

My Santi is player of the month ๐Ÿ™‚

  41. arnie says:

    lovely stuff, Raddy. ๐Ÿ™‚

you forgot our shiny new toy Paulista. Yes, the grass is always green on the other side, but our current good guys deserve respect and recognition.

    COYG. ๐Ÿ™‚

  42. Big Raddy says:

So, new boy on the bench. Hope we don’t need him

  43. fatgingergooner says:

Wow! What a touch by ร–zil. Great finish….in the end!

  44. Big Raddy says:

What a pass from Ozil!! And sublime finish over the keeper from OG.

    COYRRG

  45. RockyLives says:

Lovely goal – should be 3 up.

  46. fatgingergooner says:

Sort out our final ball and this could get silly.

  47. RockyLives says:

I’ve been out of the loop all week at a work thing. What’s happened to Alexis?

  48. fatgingergooner says:

Giroud wins everything. Even GK kicks are dangerous with his flick ons.

  49. fatgingergooner says:

    RL,

They have to send him away every 3 months for his engine to be serviced. He should be fine next week.

  50. Rasp says:

Hi Rocky apparently he has a mild hamstring problem – but not a serious pull, let’s hope he’s being rested for the spuds

  51. RockyLives says:

Thanks Rasp (and FGG ๐Ÿ™‚ )

  52. RA says:

    Hi Rock-a-Billy,

You are right – we should be two or three up – hope we do not regret it later.

  53. RockyLives says:

Agreed Redders – one of these chances needs to go in.

  54. Big Raddy says:

Strange to see Theo central swapping positions with OG. Our forward line is so flexible.

Unlucky, Santi hits the post after a lovely move

  55. fatgingergooner says:

Great discipline shown by Coquelin so far. It’s easy to get drawn forward when there’s opportunities for goals, but he’s always been where he’s needed to be so far. Hope it continues.

  56. Big Raddy says:

Idiot linesman chalks off a perfectly good goal

  57. fatgingergooner says:

We’ve let Villa wake up. Another goal would be nice.

  58. RockyLives says:

    Great save Ospina

  59. fatgingergooner says:

Glad to get in at 1-0. We’ve been asleep for the last 10 minutes.

A quick goal in the 2nd half though would be good.

  60. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

If I was Arsene Wenger I’d have Theo off the pitch at half time, everyone should be able to see his runs and movement are for himself and not the team. He is beginning to really annoy me. To be fair Ive never been convinced, and this half plus his performance at Brighton I am more convinced his future lies elsewhere, he has started to believe his own hype, his positioning this half is causing others to move and therefore unbalancing our stacking shape.

  61. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

Stacking = attacking although at times we have been stacked like planes coming into Heathrow because Theo is only running in one direction.

  62. RockyLives says:

I think you’ve just guaranteed that Theo will score a couple in the second half GiE ๐Ÿ™‚

  63. mickydidit89 says:

Don’t like the shape of the front three so far
    Come on you gunnners

  64. RA says:

There is one thing Walcott and Rambo have in common – neither has any control when receiving the ball and keep giving it away.

On the other hand Le Coq is rising to the occasion.

  65. Big Raddy says:

GIE i agree, theo is not having his best game. (Hope that helps him score)

  66. RockyLives says:

    Missing Rosicky maybe?

  67. fatgingergooner says:

Need to liven up a bit. Very flat at the moment. TR7 soon I think.

  68. Eddie says:

I’ve had a feeling for some time now that Theo fancies warmer climate

Nacho on the other hand seems very well acclimatised

  69. RockyLives says:

Theo is still on his way back from a year out with injury, he needs to be cut some slack.

People were slagging off Santi Cazorla a month or two back and saying his time at Arsenal was up. Now suddenly he’s the best thing since sliced chorizo.

I guess it’s the way of things in the modern world – everyone wants things NOW!

  70. fatgingergooner says:

Our Sanchez is a lot better than their Sanchez!

What a goal, what a finish!

  71. RockyLives says:

    Ozil!

    That’ll do!

  72. RA says:

    What a beautiful goal!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  73. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

    What a lovely finish

  74. RockyLives says:

Great play by Theo to get that move going ๐Ÿ™‚

  75. Big Raddy says:

Superb move and a 42m finish

  76. fatgingergooner says:

    Carragher before the game:

“ร–zil doesn’t have enough pace to play in the wide positions.”

I didn’t see anyone catching him there Jamie!

  77. fatgingergooner says:

Gil looks a real bargain for them at ยฃ3m.

  78. Eddie says:

no Rocky, I never wrote Santi off, never. I changed my gravator to Ozil’s for a short while, but never stopped believing in Santiago.

Walcott has only 18 months of his contract left, so this summer it’s just 1 year. Arsenal are supposedly trying to tie him to a 5 year deal, but is this true? Who knows….. I am almost certain that Theo won’t sign a new deal. But he won’t join the opposition either, too nice to do that. I can see him in Spain

  79. fatgingergooner says:

Their Sanchez seems to think he’s our Sanchez. He keeps passing to Arsenal.

    Walcott is rubbish…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  80. RockyLives says:

    :D:D ๐Ÿ˜€

He’s crap – let’s god rid of him!

  81. RA says:

Rocky, stap me vitals, but you are a wise old mudlark!!

I was pretty much in agreement with Exile regarding Theo’s ‘no show’ today, but your comment does have merit – a year out must take time to become match fit.

[And then he pops up with a lovely goal!!!]

  82. Rasp says:

    He’s crap that Walcott ๐Ÿ™‚

  83. Big Raddy says:

    RL. We did it ๐Ÿ˜Š

  84. RockyLives says:

Blimey, Agbonlahor is carrying some timber!

  85. RockyLives says:

    BR ๐Ÿ™‚

  86. Eddie says:

ha ha ha, he can demand ยฃ20k a week more after this goal ๐Ÿ™‚

  87. fatgingergooner says:

Monreals been excellent recently. Just wish he wouldn’t back off into his own box when someone’s running at him!

Merts winning all the important headers today too. Maybe the arrival of Paulista will make him better.

  88. RA says:

Agbonlahor is a fat thingy — he looks like a mini-me!! And Rasper!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  89. Big Raddy says:

    FGG you cursed Gil

  90. Rasp says:

    I’m not a fatty Redders?

  91. Rasp says:

I’m loving this, less than 50% possession again and controlling the game, that shows confidence is growing. Let them have the ball and wait for them to make a mistake, then punish them as we did against city.

  92. RockyLives says:

    Well done Santi (just)

  93. Eddie says:

grrrrrrhhhh, not happy about this penalty decision, too easy ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Still we need to close the gap on GD with S’pton

  94. Rasp says:

Cazorla getting in on the action ๐Ÿ˜†

  95. RA says:

Our squad is starting to look brilliant.

How can AW leave out Bellerin, or Coq, or — or ………. !!

    Wenger knows nothing!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  96. Rasp says:

Who won the pen for us – I’m at work ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  97. fatgingergooner says:

My 4-0 predictions not looking good, still 15 minutes left!

  98. RockyLives says:

    Akpom, Rasper

  99. RA says:

The pace of young Akpom shows what we have as CF back-up.

Hope AW can get him to sign a new contract.

  100. Rasp says:

Excellent thanks Rocky, let’s hope he signs a new contract. He’s got all the natural ability, just needs polishing ๐Ÿ˜›

  101. RA says:

Doesn’t matter what you say, Rasper, if I say you are a fatso —- then you are one of us — me and Rocky that is!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  102. RA says:

    Come on you Arses………

  103. RockyLives says:

    Let’s open a business:

Rocky, Red & Rasper: Purveyors of Fine Lumber ๐Ÿ™‚

  104. Rasp says:

How has Ospina looked, the only criticism I ever hear is that he hasn’t had anything to do?

  105. RockyLives says:

    Rasp
He made a top save at 1-0 and has looked completely assured in everything he’s done.

  106. Rasp says:

    Redders is the Sequoia ๐Ÿ˜•

  107. Rasp says:

Glad to hear that Rocky, he’s doing all that is required of him – who can ask for more

  108. RockyLives says:

    ๐Ÿ™‚

  109. Big Raddy says:

    Maybe we don’t need Cavani

  110. RA says:

    Rasp,

Ospina is now my favourite GK — sod Chezzer! Moi, fickle?? ๐Ÿ˜€

  111. fatgingergooner says:

    What a finish by Bellerin!

  112. RockyLives says:

    Great goal Hector

  113. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

    Another beautiful finish.

  114. RockyLives says:

    Another good save from Ospina

  115. Big Raddy says:

Cracker from Bellerin. He is going to be a massive star. Hope He hasn’t got Barca DNA

  116. Rasp says:

5 nil to the Arsenal, 5 nil to the Arsenal, 5 nil to the Arsenal, 5 nil to the Arsenal,

  117. RA says:

    Wow.

Belli’s brilliant goal …..Ospina stunning save….I must go and see what the doomer are saying.

Shld’ve been 10 — rubbish substitutions by deluded Wenger??? ๐Ÿ™‚

  118. Big Raddy says:

Santi magnificent again today. My MotM

  119. fatgingergooner says:

Easy in the end, but a game for an hour.

We played some great stuff at the end, but not totally convincing in the beginning. ร–zil showing just how good he can be, but still need it in the big games.

12 wins in our last 15. That’s decent form if you ask me!

  120. RA says:

MoTM is a bit difficult —- Santi? Yes, but……

Mert was absolutely excellent in his understated way. (Rock-a-Dilly converted me) — Belli? Coq? Ospina? Montreal? Ozil? Well — all of the buggers!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  121. RA says:

Oh, and Theo’s goal was excellent too!! Yaay, MoTM?

Wearing my Doomer’s hat — no, I have for one – given to me by Terry – the wobbly bit was the disintegration of the tactical set-up – but we got thru that and………….

  122. Big Raddy says:

ATM only one point off third!

  123. RockyLives says:

Good point Redders – we are lucky to have so many great players.

Contenders for MOTM: Santi, Ollie, Ozil, Theo, Coq, Belli, Nacho, Merts, Kozzer.

And I feel I should add Ramsey and Ospina just for the hell of it… ๐Ÿ™‚

  124. Big Raddy says:

    Where is our favourite Bubble?

  125. RA says:

He has gone over to the Dark Side, Randy, and is now officially a Doomer!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  126. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

Theo MotM? If he was then he better give the Bubbly to me or Arsene, how much more space he gets playing out wide and opportunities, the effect of him drifting infield too early (ie during build up) makes us all too easy to defend against and it’s layers on layers and why we had a tough time of it first half.

Second half he hugged touch line far more and cut in at the key moment in the build up. As taxreturn hell is over I will write a post on it.

  127. arnie says:

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha,

Ozil MOTM for mr, involved in everything today, Coq the leader of the chasing pack, what fantastic tackles!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

everyone else good, inclyding 14-months-out&back Theo and our 20GAYD super striker. ๐Ÿ™‚

  128. arnie says:

bloody smartphone. horrible spellings. just correct one: 20GAYG. ๐Ÿ˜›

  129. RA says:

    arnie,

Nothing wrong with him being gay G.

But I thought our super striker was caught in flagrant delicto with a buxom wench — are you sure? ๐Ÿ™‚

  130. mickydidit89 says:

    Great second half. Fantastic.
    Coq MOTM for me. Immense.
I do agree with Exile on Theo’s positioning. Cutting in, especially from the left, he’s deadly. Will always get you a goal, and he’ll only get sharper.
Those five goals may well make a big difference come the end of the season. Now ahead of Utd on GD, and only 2 behind Saints.
    An excellent days’ work.

  131. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

Who gets dropped for Alexis? Pleased it isn’t my decision

  133. Rasp says:

Hi GiE, I’m really sorry but I’ve removed your last comment. I have a post planned on exactly that subject and it would have been rendered pointless if we’d started discussing it now. I’m happy for you to write a post on the topic if you have time ๐Ÿ˜›

All you other lot, don’t read this, and don’t go on about it ๐Ÿ˜†

  134. Rasp says:

Easy Raddy, drop Theo for Alexis, he can come on from the bench, and don’t forget the Ox is also worth his place in the side ๐Ÿ™‚

  135. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

    ๐Ÿ˜€ no problem Rasp……

  136. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

I mean no problem in removing comment not that i’ll write it…..i’m going to do one dissecting Theo instead ๐Ÿ˜€

  137. fatgingergooner says:

5-0 and we still have this team who didn’t start today:-

    Welbeck

  138. mickydidit89 says:

  140. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

Rada Sanchez over Theo is a no brainer, i actually think it becomes more difficult in choosing who out of Santi and Ozil when we want to have two true wide men (say Theo and Alexis).

For me i’d say Santi, but its going to be a juggling act from now to end of the season, one thing is for sure though if the team keep winning anyone left out cannot be too upset.

By the way I reckon Arsene really likes Akpom, and is giving him 20 or so minutes each week to convince him that 1) he has a future with us, and 2) that he will get game time if he puts pen to paper on a new contract.

Bit of improvement over decision making but at 19 years old he certainly has the raw ingredients and maybe a few more than Sanogo. Thing is Giroud at 28 is only a season or two away from being past his powers so it will be important to keep the likes of Sanogo and Akpom at the club to jump in when needed, but then Welly is fast becoming a forgotten man and he is only 24 so we have a player there for a good few years to lead the line.

  141. arnie says:

Danny versus 20 GAY Giro Guy, ha ha ha. apples and oranges. best quality of Danny is he is English! ๐Ÿ˜›

Seriously, Danny needs to be much improved. Good stop gap arrangement while Giro was injured, though. ๐Ÿ˜› Maybe OK in rotation, just maybe.

Let him stay fit all season and score 20 goals or more, then we will discuss. ๐Ÿ™‚

  142. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

Arnie I think we have to remember one of the best things about Arsene is improving players, Koscielny and Giroud are probably two of the current squad for who that is true.

Listening to his interview pre match with Alan Smith was revealing, he was talking about Coquelin, he said he brought him in because his best attribute was a ball winner, but after a while and a few loans Coq thought he was better as a box to box player, Arsene has told him to focus on his best attribute, ball winning and be great rather than stretch his skill set and being average. He also mentioned that his age now means it’s time to decide.

No doubt a similar age to when Song left, and maybe the row was because Song could not see the wisdom of what Arsene was telling him.

Listen to Arsene speak football for any length of time and it really is so hard to understand why so many think he is clueless.

    Hey Cockie

Spent night by the sea down your way last night. Port Gaverne. Know it? Great place. Slip off for the night there sometimes in the winter if the weather is bad enough. Love it.

Great pub. Big storm. Superb waves and cliff walk..

  153. Rasp says:

Excellent day, saints lose so we’re equal on points and only 1 behind on goal diff.

On the topic of players seizing their opportunities, Ospina, Bellerin and Coquelin are all making the most of their chances. It looks to me as though Chuba may have got ahead of Sanogo, there is a lot about him to admire. He hasn’t got the finishing yet but the runs he makes are very good ๐Ÿ™‚

  154. fatgingergooner says:

Well done Swansea! Messed up my bet but I’m not fussed.

Great day for Arsenal. Next Saturday could be even better!

  155. Big Raddy says:

  158. Hello all, I’ve thawed out my frozen feet and fingers and watched our fabulous goals again. How joyous was that ๐Ÿ™‚

A penalty and four proper Arsenal goals, not a tippy tappy in sight ๐Ÿ˜€

I know that Villa didn’t really offer much resistance but I’ve watched plenty of games where we should have easily taken the points and have lost. It was lovely to see the players congratulating each other on their goals and their assists. Fingers crossed that the injury monster keeps away from us so that we can carry on moving up the table.

Now who wants to write a post for tomorrow, pretty please

  159. Thanks for the PM Big Dandy and it looks like you were the only one to identify me in Ant’s 12.03.

I’m definitely heavy rocker over rapper.

Great to see JC in fine form today.

As Brucie would say, “Good game, good game”

  161. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

    Cheers Raddy

    Great game, really enjoyed it.

Slowly but surely the genius of Arsene is developing a squad that can take the likes of City and Chelsea. It will come, make no mistake about that

In a couple of years as his contract ends with us winning the Champions and Premier league, the masses will shout “Stay Arsene, we love you” but just like that Shane geezer who honourably and foolishly refused to shag that farmers wife, he will ride into the sunset.

After getting home from the game i was reading Martin Keowns son tell of how Martin prepared for games. On the Friday, Keown would insist on an afternoon siesta. One Particular Friday, Keowns two sons had a massive fight over whos turn it was to play with the Chopper, hence a tug of war ensuing involving a very firm grip.

According to Keown Junior, there dad denied his sleep went ape. Smothering the two boys with a star fish leap and chest butt that sent them sprawling. A few years later, Van Nistolroy got the same treatment.

What amused me so much about the story was that my old man had the same routine. Accept his need of a Friday siesta was centered around the need to be fresh for visiting “Auntie Jean”, the women involved in my unresolved wine gum fetish.

One Friday I and my brother had a big ruck regarding the residence of Douglas the Gold Fish. Unfortunately for Douglas, during the scrap, he was mortally wounded, but the fight continued.

For the first time in my life i saw my enraged father minus his string vest. Though terrified, the only thing I could say was “Dad, weres the vest?”. I soon found out because he had it in hand and proceeded to chase my brother and I round the house lashing us with his second skin, screaming “No Wine Gums for any one tomorrow”

Its funny how football imitates life.

    Anyone watching the Super Bowl?

What always impresses me is how articulate most of the players are in interview…..the benefit of the collegiate system or is it all media training and no substance?

  163. fatgingergooner says:

    GiE,

You mean like Marshawn Lynch! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gutted Green Bay didn’t finish off Seattle, it would’ve made a much better game tonight.

  164. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

Morning fog, not the biggest follower so this whole Marshawn Lynch thing was news to me in the build up.

Amazing call at the end of the half by Seahawks head coach and it paid off, set up for a good second half.

  165. fatgingergooner says:

Wow! What an end to the Superbowl. Worth staying up til 3am for….almost!

  166. Gรถรถner In Exile says:

Incredible! Can’t believe the coach that makes such a clever call at the end of the first half makes an absolutely ridiculous call at the end of the second half. I’m by no means an expert, but even i know there is less chance of turnover if you keep the ball in the hands and on the ground. Brain freeze moment!

  168. mickydidit89 says:

Ah ha. thanks for that Chas

Funny game for me as I thought we were rubbish until the 60th odd minute and then wollop, it’s 5-0

Mind you, for you and Ant, every day you are winners with those teeth ๐Ÿ™‚

  169. Eddie says:

Well, we should have been home and hosed by half time, but the 2nd goal knocked the stuffing out of them, it’s true.

Did you go to the dentist after Raddy’s Sweden trip reminded you?

  172. chas says:

Feckin great not having to scratch around for news on TDDay, innit? ๐Ÿ™‚

True about TD-Day and almost exclusively down to one Mr Francis Coquelin

  178. Eddie says:

Thanks chas, but I cannot, something even more important than Arsenal

  179. Eddie says:

Francis is a feisty little bugger ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The “carrying some timber” comments were making me laugh when I got home yesterday.

  181. And a very good morning ladies ๐Ÿ™‚

Nothing like a 5 – 0 win to get the old libido going eh

I may be dreaming but if we now go on a good run of games and City and the Chavs drop important points……… could we actually do it?

Ant and Duck have just been employed by Colgate for their next advert.

  182. chas says:

  183. I’m jealous really on two levels, one that they have perfect bloody teeth, and secondly, they both have (nearly) a full head of hair ๐Ÿ™‚

  184. But I think Ant does a comb over ha ha

  185. chas says:

Flash photography is good for teeth.

We’re usually in the Tavern or King’s Head on Blackstock Road if JC is with us.
When JC isn’t about we could be in any of those pubs that Cockie put up the other day!

  191. chas says:

I’m in love with Santi today.

  192. How long did Ant have to keep wearing shorts? Or he still does ๐Ÿ™‚

  193. Chas

I’ll be over in April, for the Sunderland home game (or FA cup semi) the quarter final CL midweek and the Chelsea home game. So loadsa time to meet up for a sherbert in one of those pubs on Cockies list ๐Ÿ˜€

  203. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all,
Well done Raddy you hit the nail on the head with your team prediction.
Wenger surprises me all the time, but not you Raddy.

A great game and a few goals and of course a clean sheet, Its games like this that makes you start thinking of the possibilities of catching the leaders,

Funny when you get a good win just how it gives you thoughts of grandeur. The mind goes back to trophies and winning things, Players emerging and others coming back from injury, Can Arsenal mount a realistic challenge this season, and you have to believe that it is possible.

Our squad is getting stronger the odd new one here and there, and injured coming back fit,Our style now has a togetherness that has been missing, players working for one another, more protection at the back and adventurous up front. Wenger must be feeling more comfortable.

Five goals scored, six if you count the one they ruled offside which wasn’t, Goals that came from everyone, and in all fairness there could have Been more.

One player who i wasn’t impressed with was Theo Walcott, i felt we carried him for most of the game, Theo to me, seems to me that he looks for the quieter places on the field, never gets to involved and challenging for a ball seems to be a couple of strides and then waits for another to actually make a challenge.

I don’t like to pick on one player but i found Theo frustrating and also felt he does as little as he can, and then in an instance he pulls off a truly wonderful goal.

Theo has been out a long time, Naturally he avoids physical contact while he settles back in, and of course he needs time to get his match fitness back, but i still found that every time i saw him side step a challenge i was getting more and more annoyed.

I feel i may expect too much from him to soon so will give him time to prove me wrong, he seems a fans favourite, and with goals like that he deserves time.

  204. Eddie says:

    Absolutely ๐Ÿ™‚ safe drive!

    LB’s post today lovely

  205. Ant says:

Please remove the word nearly from the sentence “a full head of hair” as I am sure that you must realise that with shoulders that hairy there is no way I am missing any from my head. By the way, I still wear shorts even in the Winter and have a huge head size. Great to see Charry in those legendary shades and get his photo with JC! Where’s the photo with me C?

  206. Eddie says:

Ant ๐Ÿ™‚ you look so much like your Dad! And that skinny cheeky monster hasn’t changed a lot ๐Ÿ™‚ fantastic photo
