Does Arsène Wenger have sun-stroke?

Morning Gooner’s

Has Arsène been out in the sun to long? Playing Volley ball on a Brazilian beach in searing heat, God he even had a smile on his face. Here we have a man who for all the time he has been with us, he has only ever had Arsenal football club on his mind, and now we see a demented 64 year old prancing on foreign shores in, wait for it, swimming trunks of all things, bearing his ripped six pack, and ogling Brazilian beach babes, bugger me, he thinks his Ronaldo.

Sun stroke can affect people in different ways, some are sick as a dog, some have hallucinations, and some spend money which is not normal to them. Well Hallelujah, Wenger needs a holiday like this before every transfer window. I have to wonder what he does at night but I don’t think I would believe it.

Here we have a man who has always spent Arsenal’s money like its his own. He is known as the tightest Premier league manager, he goes down in the world of football Managers as one of the most steadfast boring buggers you could wish to meet, but a bit of sun and the man has turned into a jet-setting  spending machine, someone said he also offered to buy a drink.

We have to get him back, and get him back quickly,  as the way things are going we will start to look like a club that have ambition, people will start to talk, the press will have a field day. I can see the headlines, Wenger on his hols, drinking and partying into the early hours, and low and behold, scantily clad babes rumoured to be on the same floor at his hotel.

What of Arsenals future? The stiff upper lips of Arsenal FC, I can see their faces, What the hell is he up to out there, prancing half naked on the beach, without a tie, what is he doing, just glad he hasn’t an Arsenal logo t shirt on.

Arsène Wenger is showing us, that there is still life left in the old dog. He has signed that new 3 year contract and when people of his age take time out and start enjoying life they start to realise that its not always best to carry on the same way you always have. Life is very short and if you don’t start grabbing the bull by the horns you can easily slide into oblivion.

Arsène has had a taste of victory with our latest FA cup win, 9 years he had to wait, sometimes he may have thought he would never see another. After a bad defeat on the opening day of the season he bought us Ozil.

Arsène, as normal, came out and said this was a disappointing result but we are focused and we have belief and we are together. Many of us thought O my God not another season of misery, don’t lie that’s what you thought. Well low and behold Arsenal dug in they started to pull together, within a few weeks we pulled that defeat back and was heading the table, yes it was touch and go at times and the top of the league changed hands a few times but we were always there, come Christmas we were still there, we had seen the so called big clubs all have catastrophes and we were still up there in fact in front of them.

Injuries of course is what stopped our progress and injuries just as we hit the top so called teams, a few high scoring results against knocked everybody’s socks off and heads went down. We lost our top spot and to be honest we never came near to getting it back, but we did hang in there, we got fourth spot and we won a cup. That is a lot more than many thought after the Villa game, and look at us now FA cup holders and now in the market for 30 odd million pound players.

Yes Arsène and the boys have been holidaying but the time to start work has never left them, they will be coming back to training knowing that new blood is also coming and a new season awaits. Wenger would have got over his sunstroke and he will be pushing for more of the same, could this be the year for the league, keep spending Arsène and it most certainly could be.

  1. A lovely post Steve

Very funny but you may have a point. The FA Cup win has obviously taken a lot of pressure off AW and having money burning a hole in his pocket has freed him of all the guilt he was suffering from for not winning anything in 9 years. Good for him, he has been able to relax in Brazil and he probably got his chorizo wet with some gorgious beach babe as well. 🙂

  2. Gööner In Exile says:

Well played Steve, he is still spending money like it’s his own though, because he now has the coffers to spend.

As for your comment about rotation I wrote a post on the subject quite a while back, it’s not only reason for injury due to wear and year but also those staccato performances when he puts too many in in one game (Carling Cup, CL, Xmas Fixture pile up. Much rather 2/3 per game astounding suggested.

  3. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

    Brilliant Steve

Ime not fooled for a minute per Arsenes ‘new’ demeanour.

I am exactly the same whilst holidaying on the beach. I enjoy the young nubile bodies and they in turn are equally repulsed by mine.

I willingly allow them to use my hirsute body as a towel substitute and tie me to a deck chair at seas edge to scare of sharks. You can always tell when ime on a beach, the crabs start legging it to water.

Though we all have a great time, like Arsene, my mind is always on work. As Arsene stared intently at some Brazilian beauty’s posterior he was now doubt thinking “Sanchez would look great in that”.

As I said, I am the same, always thinking about work. Even whilst making love I can not switch off. Deciphering a complicated Inheritance tax question etc. Ive lost count the amount of times that straight after the throes of passion I will utter “oh baby, an effective tax rate of 24%”

Arsene hasnt changed. Hes just got more money to play with and hes excited about it, and so are we.

  4. Norfolk Gooner says:

Great post Steve, the change in Arsene’s demeanour is probably due to the fact that he now has the resources to buy the quality of player that really enhances the squad.

Previously he had top scrape around a bit to find affordable run-abouts rather than the supercars he (secretly) yearned for. He has never once complained about or in any way criticised the board over the financial situation.

I’m sure that he is a much happier man now that the crippling level of debt has been cleared.

  5. mickydidit89 says:

    Great stuff Steve, thanks

I sent a post in a couple of days’ ago titled

“What the hell is Arsene doing in Rio” 🙂

Great minds, and some “fans” having been moaning that Arsene is in Rio (along with the world’s finest footballers) as opposed to here in empty London 🙂

  6. arnie says:

Great stuff, Steve. Caught me on a bad day. Oh, how I hate early morning flights! Especially when environmental circumstances, I mean certain co-passengers crammed into cattle class, keep me wide awake all flight. Oh dear, too much excitement. Very tired now! 😛

But these were only British passengers on holiday. I can only imagine the pleasures of Copacabana that Arsene has been sampling. Good man! Lucky barsteward! 😛

Let us not dwell on the leopard changing his skin. Clouds my mind with depressing thoughts. Makes me grumpy. I think it is age. No, such sombre thoughts are for another day.

Let us enjoy the new toy(s) at least for now. Let the honeymoon period last for ever.

In the meantime, there is the small matter of EPL and CL football. And before that, the Community Shield. Already salivating!

What a prospect! What a year to look forward to! On with the hard work, good guys.

Where are the ghosts of the 30s? Terry. Bring them on. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  7. arnie says:

Northbank. Brilliant stuff mate. Great stuff. 🙂 I prefer to respond here rather than the other space. At least for now. 😛

  8. kelsey says:

    steve,
I don’t like this repeated reference to being an old dog at 64 ;).

This has been a carefully laid plan showing AW on the beach eyeing up the crumpet whilst all the deals had already been done to be announced spasmodically over these current few weeks.

  9. Thanks arnie, no problem with replying here, I’m now a dedicated AA reader so will be here regularly and able to reply.

kelsey…. Arsene has proved that an old dog can be taught new tricks. I’ve definately learned a few new tricks over the last couple of years. 🙂

  10. LB says:

    Great stuff Steve

I vote Arsene go on holiday to the Copacabana every close season.

  11. I hope the boss doesn’t mind, but I’m going to post a link to my blog again. http://wp.me/p4FeF9-aa

She can delete me if she thinks I’m taking liberties 🙂

  12. Haha this is a great response to the BT ad

    http://t.co/gzZYtswh6Y

  13. That’s an excellent response Peaches 🙂

Don’t feel put off by my blog, the more the merrier and it’s not just a blokes blog, I welcome diversity and you can post whenever you feel like it…. take your time, no pressure 🙂

  14. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Please forgive me for this, but i really hope the Argies beat the Germans.

I know its only football, and we shouldnt do politics and I never have done before, but the stories I heard as a kid about the German ocupation of Crete dosnt bear thinking about

They committed atrocities in my ancestral town against the loal community, and the one Jewish family, close friends of my grandparents, were taken away never to be seen again.

Again, i know ime out of order, so please forgive me, but i felt commpelled to get that of my chest.

  15. GunnerN5 says:

Terry I emphasize with your point of view. But frankly I feel no animosity towards the current German people, only Hitler’s cohorts.

However I also would prefer to see Argentina win.

  16. stevepalmer1 says:

I must apologise to all AAers, been fishing all day just walked in to watch the final. Thank you all for your comments. Haven’t had a chance to look at Northbanks but certainly wont miss it.

Sorry to hear your story Terry, many people suffered and i can understand how you feel, But those Germans were close on 70 years ago, i Know people have long memories especially when you have lost someone close, but we cannot blame the children for what their parents did. England did their fair share of bad things and although i feel bad about it life goes on, I just hope we have all learnt by what has happened in the past, and Make sure it never happens again. That’s up to us, and our kids.

  17. Terry

I think the Germans have suffered the guilt for long enough, but some of them still do. I have a few German friends and they are lovely people, sorted out their guilt and would never become involved in anything again that was fascist. I also know many Greeks and they seem to have forgiven as well. It is hard I know, but we have to move on…. the world is still not a pretty place, but some of us have to start somewhere. Ohh fuck… I normally say I’ll never get involved in this sort of thing in pubs or the internet. We just have to be careful of the Italians lol

  18. mickydidit89 says:

    Evening all.

Wow. Settling in to watch The World Cup Final.

Want the Germans to win for the Arsenal lads. Want the Germans to win for my world cup chart. Want the Argies to win, but don’t really know why.

    Hope it’s a great game.

  19. mickydidit89 says:

Family size bar of chocolate at the ready. Lets go.

  20. mickydidit89 says:

Muller needs one more goal to join Rodriguez on six.

  21. evonne says:

apart from the obvious, this is why I don’t want Germans to win:

  22. arnie says:

come on Germany!!!! 😛 For the good guys, and also hopefully a first win by an European nation in Latin America. 🙂

  23. evonne says:

I think dear arnie, that Europeans did enough damage in Latin America in the past, redemption time and all that

I just LOVE Messi, probably as much as I love TH14 or DB10

  24. arnie says:

Evonne. They did much more damage in the Middle East, Africa and the Orient, IMO. 😛

  25. arnie says:

However, I have great respect for Evonne and Terry’s sentiments.

  26. mickydidit89 says:

Look Lads, those are valid reasons to dislike a nation, but try being me. I still blame the entire population of France for having a dodgy oyster in 1983.

  27. arnie says:

For the record, I love Ozil, BFG and Poldi more than anyone else at the moment. 😛 😛 😛

  28. evonne says:

    and you should Micky!

Higuain!!!!! Worse than Ollie, just as well we didn’t get him

  29. arnie says:

    what a miss!

  30. evonne says:

BFG and Poldi are not playing tonight, and Ozil is as German as I am English

  31. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Thanks for the responses guys. A ridiculous outburst by me, not my first, not my last. Every one should be judged as an individual, I know that

Micky, hahaha, that must have been one dodgy oyster

  32. mickydidit89 says:

    Eddie

    Higuain worse than Ollie

    Best laugh all day 🙂

  33. arnie says:

Evonne: not the time to argue, but

Mesut Özil. Born October 15, 1988 (age 25), Gelsenkirchen, Germany

    🙂

  34. mickydidit89 says:

    Transplant

The tragedy is, it wasn’t off, just slightly the wrong shape 🙂

  35. evonne says:

Jesus was born in a stable, but he aint a horse 🙂

  36. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

    hahaha, brilliant micky

  37. mickydidit89 says:

Stop being provocative Arnie, or I’ll send Eddie round. And yes, I have a privately owned kite.

  38. mickydidit89 says:

Damn, but what a ball by Messi

  39. arnie says:

Micky. “just slightly the wrong shape” the shape of a stick, then. 🙂

  40. arnie says:

Micky. yes Sir, mum’s the word. 😛

  41. arnie says:

    fantastic save

  42. mickydidit89 says:

Big games can be cagey. Not this. Great.

No dull possession football at this WC.

  43. arnie says:

great tempo, great entertainment, if only a bit erratic.

  44. evonne says:

well, I had no laptop last night and didn’t read any of the comments, but Brazil v Holland was one of the worst games I have ever watched, utter tosh

  45. arnie says:

agreed. Evonne. Holland-Costa Rica a close second. 🙂

  46. mickydidit89 says:

You mean the utterly pointless third place playoff game that absolutely no-one watches, Eddie? 🙂

  47. evonne says:

yeah Micky, that one. Stupid Eddie thought that Brazil will play out of their skins to save the face. Or was I hoping that they would? Whatever, I should have shaved my legs instead

  48. evonne says:

how is that for the worst refereeing decision in this tournament?? The german goalie should be off

  49. arnie says:

what a clever pass from Ozil. that was the chance. 😦

  50. evonne says:

good bye Klose, German born in Poland. You explain this one arnie 🙂

  51. arnie says:

Evonne. I have no problems with it. I believe it is up to the individual and the willingness of the country he chooses to accept him as one of their own. 🙂

  52. stevepalmer1 says:

    These Argies are bloody useless

  53. stevepalmer1 says:

Eddie lend that guy with the rat tail your razor

  54. mickydidit89 says:

    Crikey, getting heavy out there.

  55. stevepalmer1 says:

    Well played Mesut

  56. stevepalmer1 says:

    Never a doubt was there

  57. stevepalmer1 says:

    nte all

  58. mickydidit89 says:

    Oooo, by the way.

Believe I’m the only one who had Germany beating Argentina in the final on their wall chart.

    Move over Crystals 🙂

  59. The Cockie Monster says:

Fcuk all this nonsense about the Germans !……what about the Romans ?……what did they ever do for us ?…. shagging our women and making our nice curvy roads straight !. Bastards, I like being driven around the bend by an unshagged woman !.

  60. neamman says:

I am glad the Germans won for two reasons.
1] The Argentinian team posed with a poster saying the Malvinas [Falklands to everyone else] is ours in a recent friendly. So screw them.
2] Argentina have wonderful players but love to cheat and dive.

Anyway Germany are the better team.

  61. Norfolk Gooner says:

The best team, and not just on the night, won deservedly.

  62. Norfolk Gooner says:

How about Gotze’s goal? Better than James Rodriguez’s?

  63. mickydidit89 says:

    Got to love Pod

    Nite all

  64. arnie says:

happy for our good guys. 🙂

  65. arnie says:

have we signed James Rodriguez yet? and Mario Gotze? 😛

  66. RockyLives says:

Decent final. Best team in the tournament won.

    Very good WC.

But now we can start looking forward to the real thing 🙂

  67. chas says:

I had separate conversations with a Mackem and a Scouse over the weekend about Ozil. Both thought he was shite. I’m not sure they both appreciated my comment that thick Northerners couldn’t understand him as they were used to hoof and run.

  68. mickydidit89 says:

    Chas

I reckon Mesut will be even less shite with the speed and movement of Sanchez next term.

Was the spare tent useful? 🙂

  69. chas says:

  70. chas says:

    Micky
The spare tent always sees a lot of action.

  71. mickydidit89 says:

Oh God Noooo, not with Northerners surely

  72. mickydidit89 says:

Thinking of posts now the world cup’s done and dusted, perhaps we need something a little controversial.

Perhaps a “realists” view of the impending doom.

    Morning Crystals 🙂

  73. kelsey says:

    OK micky

Ozil will be knackered will take him months to recover,Mertesacker will go into his shell as having been dropped deep down he will lose confidence and Podolski will just keep smiling if he plays sits on the bench or buggers off.
We only need about 7 more players to really complete as Theo is out for another 6 months,Sanogo is the king of the air shot,Campbell is in the soup, Jenkinson isn’t ready yet, Arteta is slowing up,Szsney needs some decent competion,Wilshere needs to get up off the floor,Vermaelen wants regular footbal, Kosceinly needs to be careful about getting carded, but the trump card is that we have Diaby and now Sanchez will lead us single handed to the title.:)

    Will that do.

  74. mickydidit89 says:

An optimistic outlook, I feel Crystals. Hardly the work of a doomer 🙂

You did forget the big one. Ollie has got slower over the summer 😦

Oh, and our full backs will bomb even further forwards during big games, and of course the crowd won’t be getting on Mesuts’ back at all 🙂

  75. mickydidit89 says:

    Off to tinker with work.

  76. Gööner In Exile says:

Really enjoyed the game last night, thought both teams were looking to win it without leaving their back line exposed which meant it was very tactical but at the same time full of special moments of football.

This thing about Messi not being able to be considered a true great of our game without winning the WC is absolute bollocks. Cruyff, Platini, Puskas etc, there are a number of greats than never quite had the team, and if you look at Messi’s teammates he is the standout player there are a few good players and then there are makeweights. Very hard for even the best players in the world to drag average players to glory, just ask Christiano.

Whilst the cameras focussing on the losers kept going back to the Messi, the ones looking at the winners didn’t know which player to look at next, and the clearest message to me was they were going to live and die as a squad together, no one looked to blame anyone, no one was the star, they were all equal.

    Definitely more Germans please.

  77. Norfolk Gooner says:

    ‘morning all,

For me the shot of the tournament was that of the sun setting behind the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Better than that of Rodriguez, better than that of Goetze and better than that of Luiz.

  78. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all,
Congratulations Germany and commiserations to Argentina.
A world Cup we all looked forward to, but many of us the thrill left the competition when our own team exited, Myself Gutted as i really felt we had a chance, England had 2 losess and a draw, so nothing to shout about, but importantly as it is with Arsenal the future is not all bad.

England fielded a young team, maybe they lacked experience and were exploited a little the nerves were probably frayed and the nations hopes weighed heavily on their young shoulders, Who knows what may have happened had Theo and the OX had been available for that we will never know but i admire Hodgeson for his picks, Gibbo could have been included but maybe his time will come.

Our old enemy has won the world cup and although we won wars in the past you dont get Knighthoods for that.

Germany have had many enemies in the past and some still hold grudges, we understand some of the bad things they did and i hope we never forget. But that was then and now is now. The Germany today has helped people all round the world, they are a member of the EU and they pay out millions to charities, yes we cannot forget the past but we also have to admire them as well.

Germany have built a team of youngsters and they could be right up the top for a long time but so has England and we will never be that far behind them, yes this world cup we had our arses spanked but like Arsenal we are building for the future.

  79. Morning all

Fantastic result last night for our German Gunners, absolutely thrilled for them.
