Firstly, I have to say how impressed I am with our feeder team’s current form, nothing less than wonderful. One of the problems with the advantages given to the CL clubs and those backed by billionaires is that the romance has gone out of the league table. Never again will Wolves or Portsmouth or Spurs win the title, those days disappeared with the advent of colour television.
So we are delighted when after a third (almost) of the season an unfancied club can be 3rd in the table playing attractive football. Given the furore following Adams sacking and the arrival of the unknown Pochettino, Southampton’s revival has been the stuff of fairy tales. Built upon a sold defence and a hard working midfield, they have embarrassed a few of the top clubs and will be looking to do the same this afternoon.
But is their style so advanced? Big strong centre backs, fast athletic full backs, hard workers in midfield with both destroyers (Schnitzel and Wagamamma) and craft (Lollipop), wingmen and a big centre forward who is excellent in the air. Seems to me a bit like our ’89 double team.
An *80’s Ricky Lambert?
As usual you will be better served on other sites if you are after tactics or stats.
Instead let’s look at a couple of players.. Wanyama: After a poor start he has acclimatised to the PL and is looking a fine signing. It must be said that I expected him to be lining up on our side this afternoon but I guess the signing of Flamini negated the need for a DM. He was superb for Celtic and I think will do well throughout the season, always assuming he doesn’t go the route of other “hard men” like Frimpers and Tiote who allow their reputations to affect their play – it is no good crunching into a tackle, winning the ball and then passing the ball straight back to the opposition!
Then there is Lovren. Brilliant signing – no other words for it. Who knew? And only 24 y.o. Expect to see a big money transfer in the next couple of seasons, especially as he will be going to Brazil with Croatia. It will be interesting to see how he copes with the movement of our forwards but alongside Hooiveld he has created a mean defence.
Arsenal: Much has been made of the return of Theo and his potential link up with Ozil, but I expect our flyer will get 20 mins at most. Instead we much “make do” with the team which has taken us to the Top of The League! It would be great if Rosicky is fit but there are doubts, so maybe Mr Wenger will be brave and play Wilshere in a very attack based midfield?
My team:
Our bench is getting stronger. Will Nik B still keep his seat? Fabianski, Monreal, Gnabry, Theo, Rosicky, Vermaelen, Jenks. Sorry Nik – it is back to the stiffs for you young man.
Would be lovely to see OG back amongst the goals but I fear that like all the other Southampton’s opponents we will struggle to score this afternoon. That said, if we can score early then the Saints will have to be more expansive.
Another disadvantage is that most of our chaps have been away on international duty – Santi and Monreal has been all over the Africa. Thankfully, Ramsey and Ozil, two players who are in the “red zone” have been rested, and Koscielny, due to another rush of blood, missed the Ukraine game, that victory will give added vava boom to our French contingent.
This should be an entertaining game with Arsenal having to find a solution to Southampton’s pressing game. If we really are to win the title this is an important game to win and I can see no reason why we cannot gain the three points. The loss to the Surrey Devils was painful but we left knowing the best team had lost, lose points today and there will be question marks.
It is the duty of all you lucky people who are going today to lift the team. Say it loud and say it proud – “We are the Arsenal and we are the Best …..”

Arsenal News 24/7

A Polished Piece of Prose, Raddy. Thank you.
“Schnitzel and Wagamamma” 🙂
I thought there was something up with Jack’s ankle. Hopefully wrong, but if so then Gnabry for me.
Nice one, BR.
I was thinking Southampton were going to be a flair team with their new manager, but they seem really solid. Let’s hope we can change all that today. 🙂
The Keys stuff is on the end of yesterday’s post, Micky.
Rasp was kind enough to correct my error of forgetting Flamster’s suspension.
I expect JW to start but would prefer Gnabry or if fit, Rosicky
Lovely curtain raiser as ever, Raddy.
The team looks very nice, on paper at least. This will be a big test. Our star-studded midfield has been hostage to fortunes a little bit, and what will be very nice if they can silence critics by producing a couple of moments of brilliance today.
But I agree this will be difficult. If Jack is fit, he will be ideal, otherwise Micky’s suggestion of Gnabry seems to be good. But, if we find on 60 mins that nothing much has been created, Theo may be thrown in. Hopefully this will work. Tough test today. No telecast as well.
Those lucky enough to go to the Ems will have to work hard!!!!
‘morning AAers. Super pre-match, as always, Raddy.
No Flamini this afternoon, he’s suspended, so either Jack or Aaron will have to be ready to drop back and help out alongside Mikel.
I hope our corner kickers watched the England/Germany game and noted how a correctly delivered corner can result in a super goal by the BFG.
Sky and BT must be kicking themselves for turning down the “unattractive” match between the “lowly” Saints and “no-hopers” Arsenal. 😀 . First versus third at THOF. Tasty, very very tasty. Anybody know a decent stream to watch the game on?
😆
Different topic. I thought the motning crew did really well today. Last few days, the motning conversation was getting dry. Perhaps the long Interlull. Today it was good. Really enjoyed it!!!! 😀 😀
Chas
I saw your comment. But describing this Richard Keys fella as the one with the hairy hands, really doesn’t help me to know who the heck he is. 🙂
Arnie,
The motnings are my favourite time of day on here. It’s peaceful pre-bitching quality time 🙂
NG. I do not know if they are taking new customers but this is an excellent, though paying, site
http://hd-streaming.tv/watch/livehds
Micky: 😀
Is this what you are looking for? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Keys The moment you see the photo, you will know who he is!!!!
Thanks Arnie
But I’ve never seen him before, although I remember Andy Gray being done for upsetting some sensitives somewhere along the line, but didn’t know his partner in crime.
Nice preview Raddy
Arteta n Wilshere/Ramsey will have to be quick n precise on the ball today cos soton is a pressing side, any lacklusture performance from d duo could give Lanalla d needed run-in. They ve gotten @ least 5 out of their 11 goals from his pace. Go gunners go!!!!
Micky: Personally, I never quite liked the duo when they were on Sky. Yes, the sexist comments about the lineswoman were (quite) a bit over the top, and the reactions were even more extreme!!! 😀
arnie.
Blimey, if a woman was fired every time one laughed at me there would be serious inequality in the work place.
Micky, did you watch the clips I posted on yesterday’s after Rasp called ‘new post’?
Raddy: 😀 😀
Morning all
Thanks Raddy for a lovely pre-match. I’m hoping for a good game of football which sees us taking three points.
I won’t be around again until later so please grab anyone who seems to want to write a post for tomorrow 😉
Catch up later.
Pochettino, Schnitzel, Lollipop and Wagamamma – is this a menu from some oriental take away or a proper team?
Thanks for prematch Raddy, great read and warning taken aboard, we must not take this game lightly
Evonne: Dont worry, Pochettino, Schnitzel, Lollipop and Wagamamma – to be taken out by Szczesny, Mertesacker, Koscielny and Özil, not to mention the able support of Ramsey, Sagna, Cazorla and Giroud. On with the show. 😀 😀
Having said that, while I am cautiously optimistic our defence will hold up, cracking the Saints’ back four will be quite a struggle.
Thanks for the streaming tip BR, I’ll give it a try.
He’s back again! The Arsenal legend that is Thierry Henry is training with The Gunners. Could he sign up to play for us during the MLS winter break?
FFS, Pool ahead already!!!!
Hope Everton defend like that against us
OK, better now. 1-1 now. I am hoping Everton take some points off Pool today.
Feck, Suarez dives, and then puts the freekick in!!!! oh dear!!!
Expost, agree with you Raddy. 😀 😀
Mirallas got out of jail ….. somehow …..
Can’t see Everton getting anything from this game unless L’pool make mistakes.
Everton is poor. Mignolet still having to make several important saves, though. Pool defence is poor as well.
Arsenal game start may be delayed. Travel disruptions in North London.
team to play Southampton:
Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny,
Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Ozil,
Cazorla, Giroud
Subs: Fabianski, Monreal, Vermaelen,
Rosicky, Walcott, Gnabry, Bendtner
seems you got it 100% big raddy you crystal ball
well done Raddy on the starting lineup. happy Jack is fit. 😀 😀 😀
2-2. It was coming
Great Pre-Match Randicious! 🙂
All fingers, toes and eyes crossed for this one as it has that air of other games where we were quietly confident — and then bugger it up.
Not that I have come over all pessimistic. 🙂
Everton 3-2 Liverpool. Lukakuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!
Arsenal game 3:15 start. Pool equalise. 3-3 now.
Final score, Everton 3-3 Liverpool. Whatever happens, save a big loss, We are Top of the League will stay tonight. Great stuff.
England on the verge of SF win against the All Blacks.
AAers: once again, Arsenal game starts 15 mins late
That was a fantastic game.
kgooner. No, I made a mistake! NB on the bench instead of The Corporal
Afternoon Armchair Chums
Good result up there, and spot on Raddy.
Also, a wow bench.
Oh don’t be picky Raddy 🙂
NZ win over England in Rugby League SF. Close game. England should really have held on to their lead.
grrrrhhhh…..I slept right through such a game 😦
only 1 goal from Suarez, hm
Arnie – why is our game delayed?
Who ate my Kebab
Peaches, LB, Rasp, 26?
I know who drank all the drinks. Ant ‘n Duck 🙂
Arnie
Cricket and Rugby are minor sports, really just something for the lesser hemisphere 🙂
Delay gives extra time for JW’s ankle knack to repair.
Didit. Easy. We invented both sports.
Another 10 mins, and we could have Diaby at least on the bench eh Raddy 🙂
We invented all sports and most of the other hemisphere. Still gave them away.
So your point is?
Right.
Stream find and back at half time.
Come on you Gunnnnners
Micky: Great fun though. Perfect for armchair sports enthusiasts. 😀 😀
Hope that isn’t a muscle inure for OG
What a finish from OG.
You’ll never do a Szezzer
You’ll never do a Szezzer
You’ll never do a Szezzer
🙂
Clattenburg is so poor
any good streams out there? LOF is poor today
evonne: I am doing Soft Sports TV1, it is OK
evonne. My LOF is terrific – refresh it
Evonne
This not bad http://www.nutjob.eu/
Probably try to find better second half
I’m paid up for 2 yrs on LOF and cannot get it to work
BR – will do
Micky – I watched it too, but it was such poor quality
thanks arnie
anyway, who cares, as long as we are winning 🙂
Anyway, all good so far.
Tralalala, fantastic. But we should really have been two goals in front. Giroud was awesome, in attack and very good in defence as well. Ozil has been fantastic as well, and Szcz, what more can you say!!! Excellent team performance so far, no one has been poor, perhaps Gibbs shoved off a bit easily a couple of times.
Really happy that both wings working really well, we are able to spread the game. Hey ho!!!!
Very tight game with Arsenal only really on top for about 15 mins. Santi having a poor game so far, he looks tired.
TPIG has already made two fine saves.
Wanyama needs to be Flamini’ed because he is bossing the tackles.
I do not like us playing with only one attacker and am looking forward to a fit Theo.
But – we are ahead and can score again
indeedy 🙂
Yes, you are right Raddy, Santi gave away a bit too much in teh midfield. It is really important today we retain possession and not give it cheaply away. The lads have been strong, and they have to be. Saints play a tough game.
arnie. I expect more!
Raddy: ditto. 😀 😀 😀
Oh dear. Fulham losing at home. Taxi for Jol.
Missed the furst half probay miss second two, good to see we are 1 up and as long as we don’t lose by more than 2 we are top of the league for another week thanks to Everton 🙂
No taxi, public transport for Jol!!!!!
Come on GiE, we will win!!!!!!!
Theo is back on AW’s favourite 70 mins.
Santi was much better 2nd half
Arnie, i am adopting a more negative attitude for mathcdays 😀
Hope for the Best
Expect The Worst
Take What Comes
Come on boys, we need to step up the pace and close down faster.
Loverly Jubberly 😀
Fantastic. Great to be back to proper football.
Excellent.
Apart from possible injury to Arteta that was a fine afternoon.
We are TOTL
Yo hooooooo!!!! Well done the good guys. Everyone was good, Giroud awesome, very good game from Ozil, Sagna, Szcz and Kos as well. Good 3 points in the bag!!! Say We Are Top of the League!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀
GiE: Negative attitude, what negative attitude? 😀 😀 😀
Terrific hard fought result by the sounds of it – I wasn’t able to watch the game …….
…. can someone tell me who gets the assists please
Theo had an uneventful start, decent. Santi still not at his best. Rosicky was very good, I thought! Rambo very good, if not at his excellent best, Jack was very good, Gibbs excellent in the wings, if somewhat less efficient at the back. It did not matter today because Kos was excellent, and Giroud dropped back very fast. Giroud was sublime!!!! Mert solid, and won the penalty for us!!!! Good solid all round team game!!!! Excellent to watch, great tempo!!!!
Nice write up Raddy and good pick on the team.
The media will say “it was only Southampton ” (as they lost)
Generally a good but not outstanding performance though despite his goals Giroud worked his socks off in attack and defence, Szsney looks more assurd every game and Sagna and Kos all stood out for me.
I was surprised to see Jack stay on and after all the talk this week about his fitness he also did remarkably well.
For Giroud’s first goal, assist goes to BORUC!!!! 😀 😀 For teh second one, Mert won the penalty.
Thanks arnie, but an Arsenal player has to get the assist 😛
Its been a good week for Mertesacker
Rasp
Then for first it has to be Ollie goal and assist
tricky one Rasp. I think back pass to Boruc, and he messed up. No assist.
Second one was a penalty. What assist? Perhaps we can credit Mert for winning the penalty in the first place.
Is that possible GiE?
Doesn’t the assist have to be another player. Did Santi get the goal and assist for his effort?
Mert definitely gets the assist for the pen
Boruc does The Hokey Cokey 🙂
I think you can score without an assist, same as you can score without a shot on target……….
BTW Rasp i saw nothing of the game…….over to Arnie for the match report…………Arnie? Arnie? ARNIE?!?!?
I am here, hiding …..
On the assist, I suggest a poll. I vote for BORUC!!!! The poor guy was playing for the good guys for those few minutes. He reckoned he is not going to score above Szcz for keeping, so he was trying to play football …. 😀 😀 Or maybe, he struck a deal with before the game that if Szcz was really happy, he would have international flu before the next intl break, so that Boruc gets a chance to play for Evonne’s team …… 😀 😀 😀
If times are desperate, I’ll do a match thoughts and feelings.
Great idea Arnie. Shall I include a Poll in my Match Thoughts? 🙂
😀
Micky: Are you glowing with enthusiasm, over to you. Otherwise, happy to do one!!!!
yes, Micky, please. Please do this!!!!!!
Giroud: “Two days before [the match] I lost my grandfather so I’m really motivated to dedicate these goals to him and I hope he is proud of me in the sky.”
Can I assume we are now fighting over doing a write up. This is a sensational moment on AA
Roll up, roll up 🙂
Seriously, I am not writing who passed to who. Just a gloat with a drizzle of tacticsbollocks
Micky: Just to clear up the confusion. Please do the match thoughts, and please include a poll!!!! 😀 😀 😀
No fights this time. We will have a fight when, some time in the future, manufacture a lass from the jaws of victory!!!!!
I can’t give Boruc the assist – where is chas when you need him?
Rasp: Did Chas go to the ground?
If you must have an assist Rasp it was giroud who assisted himself 🙂
😆 kelsey, you’re the second to tell me that. I think chas goes to some official stats site to give me the definitive version.
Hi arnie, chas goes to most games so I guess you’re correct
Kelsey
You’re right. Ollie had last touch before Ollie scored. Before that, it was a Southampton back pass.
Well, that was nice.
Woke up late (just before kick-off, which is 10am here). Delayed start meant I could grab tea, toast and marmalade then into the match.
Full credit to Saints – the came to the game completely unawed by playing the mighty Arse and started with bags of confidence. Suffice to say that by the time they left N5, their sense of awe had been restored.
So unlucky with the two that hit the post. The Boruc comedy goal was fantastic (and it was about time we got a ‘gift’ goal like that, when you think of all the scrawny “goals” and non-penalties that have been handed out to the likes of the Chavs and the Spuds this season).
At 1-0 clearly we were never safe and Saints showed good quality from time to time but with this new Arsenal team I was never unduly worried. Our defensive organization was excellent and the whole team defended well.
Santi, for example, looked tired and a little off his touch going forward (after his long-haul travel with Spain), but his work rate defensively was phenomenal.
A very, very solid win against a very good side.
Just need the Hammers to do us a favour, followed by Cardiff tomorrow (and a draw between the Light Blue Chavs and the Spuds).
Hmmm… not looking like the Hammers are going to help us out then…
My three-hapennies worth is that there is no assist for the first goal.
And as for the pen – that’s simple: either we always say that the person who won the pen gets credited with the assist or we don’t count an assist for penalties. It seems like the consensus is for the former approach, in which case the BFG gets it.
Whoops – excellent Pre-match BR 🙂
Unfortunately, the Chavs are having an easy time, winning 2-0.
Elsewhere, not too far away, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are drawing 0-0 at half-time in their top-of-the-table Bundesliga showdown. Gives us some kind of perspective as to what mettle this Arsenal team is made of!!!!
Very good match report Rocky 🙂
Arnie
It appears that this season we are struggling against the lesser sides. Like Utd.
Micky: I agree. It is a long season, and we are going to suffer in some games. Struggling against weaker sides like Utd and Villa is unfortunate. But better than struggling against the top sides, like the ones we faced today. Keeps our morale and confidence high. 😀 😀
Good result today much love
Sheep
In my ex-post view, Santi was OK. He gave away a few cheap balls, but was good in defence, and was good in link play on the left side which allowed us to spread the game. Defensive help from Santi and particularly Giroud was required today. Gibbs was a bit off-colour in defence. Not being too critical though.
Gotze scores on return to Dortmund. Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Bayern Munich. Super sub, false 9, plenty of boos notwithstanding. Good result for us ahead of their Napoli clash I suppose. But if Bayern win, we are no longer the only side to defeat Dortmund at home this year. We are in good company, though. 😀 😀 😀
Good evening, comrades.
Not a classic but then we were playing probably the best organised, and over the last 12 months most improved, side in the PL. Wilshere aside, I thought our starting midfielders were a bit erratic in their passing but they still worked very hard and did their defensive work well.
The two hit posts represented the most sublime moments, the goals being prosaic items.
The fact we can beat a very good side with Cazorla and Özil playing no more than ok is further evidence of the quality and temperament of the side.
I thought Arsenal did especially well dealing with Soton’s pressing game. Szczesny and Mertesacker must have know how much they’d be chased down in possession, and did well with it, and sometimes managed to exploit the space created by the pressing tactics. Somewhat ironic that our first goal came from Giroud doing to Boruc what Lambert does to oppo keepers.
I’m a bit surprised that arnie thought Gibbs wasn’t great – from my vantage point in the stadium, I thought Gibbs and Wilshere were our best players. But I’ll have to watch the game on repeat to see if I’ll change my mind about that.
Still looks like three points for Chelsea. Oh well.
3-0, game over.
Who is top of the league?
26…
…let me think…
Oh!
It’s US – THE MIGHT ARSE
WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE, WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE
26may: I may change my mind later. 😀 😀 I thought Gibbs was very good on overlap, and gave us width, but was slow falling back. Luckily, Kos was fantastic today, and Giroud and Santi dropped back very quickly.
Borussia Dortmund 0-3 Bayern Munich. ha ha 😀 😀
Nice article, shame the picture is of the Kop…..
Thanks, Rocky, I needed that reminder.
🙂
Sheafy
I thought the pic was from last game at Highbury v Wigan and the free t shirts.
Worth mentioning I think that, nor only are we TOP OF THE LEAGUE, but we are 4 points clears (a good 4 points clear) at the top. 😀 😀 😀
Arnie,am I to take it you are writing the match report and Micky is spicing it up a bit 🙂
No Peaches
We think a match report is a silly thing. You’re getting some “Feelings” and you are very lucky 🙂
If someone wants to write a real one, then feel free. Just leave a note on here, and I’ll see it in the morning.
So, Micky you’re doing feelings………just need to know who to nag in the morning 😉
Peaches: We are getting some “feelings” from Micky tomorrow. And, its not what you think it is!!!!! Not that kind of touchy-feely thing ….. 😀 😀 😀
Top man Arnie
Look forward to reading it tomorrow.
I thought Gibbs was classy. Wilshere still ran into unnecessary trouble and lost possession too many times for my liking. He was better when he moved back to his more natural position………..now where might that be?
Rocky’s summery at 6.20 is brilliant.
LB
You are going to be seriously disappointed. You are getting some bloody feelings from me. Get over it 🙂
Bet you had a great day.
LB: Micky is writing it, not me!!!! I will share some “feelings” later during the day!!!! :$
I was trying out the blushing face. Why dont these fecking emoticons work for me? Let me try some out 🙂 🙂 :o) :] :3 :c) :> =] 8) =) :} :^) :っ)
😀 😀 8-D 8D x-D xD X-D XD =-D =D =-3 =3 B^D
:-)) >:[ 😦 😦 :-c :c :-< :っC :< :-[ :[ :{
;( :-|| :@ 😡 :’-( 😥 :’-) :’)
Apologies, but I had to try some of these out!!!! 😀 😀
Arnie
Apart from the ones with yellow on them, they’re brilliant.
Nite all.
Arnie
Are you trying to pre-trump Micky’s “feelings” with your emoticons?
Rocky: 😀 😀 :@ 😡 :’-( 😥 :’-) :’)
Arnie try oops between two colons 😳
😈
GiE: 😳
ha ha ha, GiE, got it!!!!! 👿
The sheepish look on Hansen’s face when the obvious question was asked on MOTD was ….. priceless. ….
Rasp,
Officially there is no assist for the first goal but I’m giving it to Boruc since he certainly dropped a chinese testicle. 🙂
BFG gets the assist for winning the penalty and celebrating the award of it with such teutonic panache.
chas: 😀 😀 the crowd was fantastic today. must have been a fantastic atmosphere!!!!
I first latched on to this site just after RVP. left us. there was a question then about whether we should give him the worst verbal abuse. I reckoned no, and said so. There was, and still is a sort of cliquey feel to Arsenal Arsenal and after several failed attempts to get across the feelings of frustration that some of my mates and I felt, I wrote this site off as blinkered and hooray for a drink to assist rose coloured spectacles. I accused most of you as “Johnny Come Latelys”, which a lot of you are! I have been an Arsenal fan since the Bertie Mee days. Right now, I want to come up to date and belong to a family such as yours who perhaps feel that football is coming home. We have a good manager and team. The opportunity is there, so, I would like to celebrate online with you guys every kick until the season ends and beyond. I am not asking for Arsenal Le Grove, but an all encompassing Arsenal Arsenal. How about that?Thinking outside the box is an attribute. I hate Suarez so that will not endear me to Evo…some of you but I am Arsenal. Big time. I read the more interesting posts most times. Arsenal every time. I still eat if we lose. Yeh!!!
Summary headline: Arsenal Deft, Boruc Daft.
Missed the second half but sounds as if everything was well in hand. I suspect Santi was tired, but should there be some concern over how the Santi-Ozil combination will work itself out?
By the way, the 3-3 Merseyside derby was an absolute cracker. Lukaku and Delafeou for Toffees are exciting, and while Suarez is an odious creature, he’s an utter nightmare to defend against. And Joe Allen with the miss of the season….
Tony it would love to know who is cliquey and who the Johnny Come Latelys are?
There are many of us who only met on these pages, new posters are afforded the same treatment as old posters (if someone says “I am going today” inevitably they will be encouraged to go to the Tavern to meet the regular Emirates attendees). If tickets are available they are shared here.
A fan can’t help the timing of his birth, I can’t profess to have been going since Bertie Mee because I wasn’t born.
There are however a few men here who can call you a Johnny Come Lately, having supported the team pre 71.
Motning has broken.
Where were you when we were shit, you glory-hunters?
I’ve been supporting The Arsenal since 1886, so feck off the lot of ya.
Morning Chas
I don’t know if you were able to make the game but did you see the two rows of seats covered over in the Clock End with almost a special section in front of it, any idea what was going on?
“I read the more interesting posts”. Very gracious. Some writers will feel truly honoured, and the one’s who don’t come up to scratch,…well, sod ’em frankly.
This sounds familiar.
1886? hmmmm I knew you were a Johnny come lately.
Morning, Johnny. 🙂
We sit above the away supporters in 115, LB, and couldn’t work out why those rows were covered over. They weren’t in line, so I’m not sure if they were trying to mark out a section or not.
Micky,
It’s familiar because exactly the same was said before.
The warmth of the site comes from the people who post here, not because we are top of the league.
Clattenberg was dreadful.
This was a fair tackle, scything through the legs of a genius to get to the ball.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/priceyd101/11015601426/lightbox/
This is how you tackle from behind fairly. 🙂
Do your stuff, GIE.
(by the way, not being born is no excuse)
Time to put on some lycra, see you later.
Me, too.
Post sent.
Rubber for me today, just not yet.
wind breaker for me today
Beans last night was it then Evonne?
no darling, the forces of nature 🙂
awesome game in Liverpool, hopefully Spurs can raise to the occassion today too
CharcoL is good for wind
I’m not sure I want to be in this clique anymore – rubber and Lycra? One step short of car keys in the mixing bowl 🙂
who do you know that Chas?
it was a softish penalty for Per. Saints gave us that game
how not who
oooohhh, ittle Jack wearing shirt and tie, looks ever so handsome and mature oooohhh
Exile 🙂
I’ve always thought people in lycra bordered on the perv, whereas rubber boys……
Actually, air tem of 4 degrees here today, and possibly last weekend before sea dips down into single figures. Brrrrrr
On the subject of tackling, fouls and cards.
Wes Brown red or not? On 606 last night they tried to say it was a shocking decision and anyone would say as much on the first look. Well I could only say it wasn’t when if saw the replay. The angle Friend had did not help but his linesman and 4th official could probably see that he wasn’t flying at Adam. But the only reason most say it wasn’t a red was because Adam got out of the way, he had to, if he hadn’t he could have broke his leg, there were a lot of similarities between that challenge by Brown and Shawcross’s lunge at Rambo. Contact is not the definition of a red card, endangering the safety of others is.
Mirallas didn’t see red for his high tackle on Suarez I can see why, but it probably was a red. As was Gerard’s elbow at Barry but “he didn’t make contact or swing his elbow”….bollocks if Barry hadn’t jumped into Gerard to protect himself and stop his body spinning he would have been cleaned out.
Begovic led with his studs at Fletcher, Fletcher laid down to get out of the way and got caught in the chest (he clutched his face…poor) but Begovic endangered Fletcher’s safety and his boot was higher than Mirallas’s, Red?
Chavs penalty….nailed on according to all commentators and Jose wanted a card, Oscar nicked the ball and left two legs to be taken, he didn’t try to run after he touched the ball, why does everyone think that is a foul? He hasn’t tried to continue running and Jussi was unlucky to make contact having tried very hard to stop his momentum.
Basically who would be a ref?
Gloves and full head rubber Micky?
Not sure about this whole suit thing, clearly the marketing boys are less happy making shack where the track suit top over his shirt and tie for the MotD interview with Linejer.
Blimey Exile. You have microscopically analysed every game yesterday. You are so much more qualified than me to write Match Feelings.
We have hoods, gloves and boots, although because of my swollen big toe, I’ll be getting cold feet.
In reality, there’s no excuse for getting cold, just that I refuse to wear a winter wetsuit yet as they are very restrictive. I make my son wear his though.
Here’s a live feed to the beach. Couple of surfers out there enjoying small but clean waves. We’ll be joining them later. My daughter may even come, and she is a real blast.
http://magicseaweed.com/Live-Widemouth-Bay-Webcam/14/
Micky I only watched MotD highlights so I would have been purring what it’s about Jacks cross/chip and Rambo’s back heel. Not enough to judge game. 😀
Those points I watched with interest because according to Fletcher and Savage the ref got the decisions wrong on Mirallas and Brown.
It’s= if’s
Motning all 😛
Talking of refs, has anyone else noticed that increasingly our players are being obstructed off the ball. I’m not talking about the jostling in the box from corners, but impeding our players (who are not in possession) to stop them making runs. This must be a foul, but when was the last time a ref gave a freekick for obstruction off the ball. This must be a foul – we are not playing American football!!!
Morning all
