I am a bottom man, whereas My Uncle Earnest Didit was more interested in the top half, as the “allegations” testified. Happily, the Old Git was cleared after the Judge mysteriously ignored the overwhelming evidence, following the wonderful gift of the all-inclusive holiday for two in Barbados that he had just enjoyed. Interestingly, there ensued a scandal when it became public knowledge that The Judge had enjoyed said holiday, not with his Wife, but rather his twenty six year old Eastern European “Friend”. Some of you think The Premiership is corrupt. Piffle.
We have “looked up” and discussed the top four battle as played out through the fixtures of the protagonists themselves. I believe that by “looking down” we’ll see that results of the Villas and Wigans will play an equally important role.
At the top end, Utd play Chelsea, and then Chelsea take on Spurs. While these games will have a significant bearing on the outcome in the fight for top four places, let’s look downwards for a moment as I believe the “bottom” people are going to be having much of the fun.
Here’s the order of play, and it’s the order that could be the all-important and decisive aspect of the run-in.
Firstly, brilliant chart isn’t it? Yes, it is.
Secondly, you can immediately start making crazy scenario plans. Example, Wigan lose on Saturday and Tuesday while the others pick up a point or more, and it’s all over for them before they get to the FAC and The Emirates.
Looking ahead to the final day of the season, it’s very hard to imagine us (Toon) or Spuds (Sunderland) playing opposition with anything other than pride to play for.
To my mind, Villa and Wigan could play the starring roles. Wigan get a result at WBA, while Villa lose at Norwich, and oh boy, could Chelsea have a fight on their hands when they visit Villa three days after a battle at the Bridge against Spurs. Ooo, and that Villa came will be three days before The Europa Final. Our Chavvy chums are going to have one heck of a fight on their hands if they lose at Old Trafford.
For this weekend, and aside from the small matter of a game in Shepherd’s Bush, I’ll be gunning for a Utd win, a Wigan win and a Norwich win. From where I’m looking right now, if I were to re-enter The DidIt Competition, I’d have Chelsea missing out on the Top Three.

Arsenal News 24/7

Micky,
Forgive me if I copy Shard’s comment from just before Easp’s guillotine descended.
Shard said:
I’m probably too late to join in on this one, and a ‘new post’ message will probably show up before I’m done typing but here goes..
I disagree that the new stadium doesn’t feel like home. It in no way compares to Highbury (I’ve never seen a game there, but did take the tour) and even now, when I watch footage of old matches, or when I go outside Highbury, I feel like it’s very much a part of me. That won’t change.
Now with the Emirates (or the Grove if you prefer), I’ve been 5 times (not counting the pre season Emirates Cup). One of those times was the first of the 5pur2. When that game ended, (I was way back in the North bank upper) while leaving, I was slowly walking down, and I stopped at the steps and just looked over the ground. And I thought… “Home” It feels like Arsenal’s home to me. A trophy of some kind would solidify it, but the atmosphere at the 3-0 Milan game was special, and I think games like that only help make it better.
As for the moaning fans bit being because of the club becoming more of a business. I disagree. But that’s because if the club had nevr become as global a business, I would never have been a fan. I’ve only seen Arsene Wenger in charge of Arsenal, saw the magnificent teams of the late 90s and early 2000s (I hate the term noughties), and I saw us transition into a new stadium, planning for a better independent future. I would never moan about Arsenal because we didn’t win trophies. I would never ever moan at a match. I’m also not sure the noveau riche fans are to solely blame for the poor atmosphere. I suspect, a lot of the older fans feel a little disenfranchised because the club has grown and as a result, they feel less important. Coupled with the low attention spans, and the media assault on the lack of trophies front (or even ticket pricing front) makes people feel as if they ‘deserve’ better. Me? I got exactly the team I deserve and I couldn’t be happier.
A couple of other points. I am still not sure of this is true, but I recall that when the stadium was announced, there was a possibility of expanding the capacity to 80,000. Maybe that explains the distance of the crowd from the pitch.
Evonne,
Bayern Munich share their stadium with 1860 Munich. They both co-owned it until 2006, until Bayern bought the 50% shareholding from 1860munich for 11m euros. I’m guessing the cost of construction was shared between the two clubs, and perhaps even the government. The burden of debt on them was definitely lower than ours though.
I responded:
(To Shard:)
That is an interesting take on Randy’s Post, and I think has valid points.
There is a difference in perspective tho’ that you alluded to in passing.
The ‘new’ global fan who may have seen the physical entity of Highbury stadium but never experienced the week on week, year on year games that were played there, would, of course, not comprehend the sense of loss of those who did.
Not that it belittles the global fans experience and belonging. It is just different — experience is the key here.
I do not moan as such, either at losing sometimes, but I have to say that the moments of winning trophies is an ecstasy that demands more. For me, I am not a ‘placid’ fan happy to accept the status quo — no, I want to win every competition that we enter.
I am not better or worse than any other fan, just that I want to win — but if we give our all and do not achieve a trophy then it is onwards to the next competition — to win!!
Sorry Micky, but Rasper is like the Grim Reaper — he will take you in the middle of a conversation, or not!! 😀
First ?… Love this site, mad ass posts/comments.. Keep up the good work SENIOR gooners
Enjoyable read, Micky, carried off with your usual charming insouciance. 🙂
Me? I am a legs man — to be specific, I don’t care too much for table legs, or legs of varying numbers belonging to centipedes, or animals or even poultry. No, I mean lean, bronzed, shapely legs supporting a honed torso — and for the sake of clarity, in case there is any doubt, I mean legs belonging to a human, female, feminine filly!
I think both you and your uncle, as well as the said Judge, should all have ‘gone down’ for your Beyonce or Dolly Parton proclivities, and no amount of neat tables of Wigan, Newcastle games will disguise that salient fact!
30 Years — at least!!
Loved the first paragraph.
As to the rest …. who knows? I think we should all go out and find some virgins to sacrifice (not an easy task) in order to please the Gods.
Mark BR’s words. It will come down to luck and referees.
Will really appreciate seeing chelsea and spurs battling for 4th place, cos i cnt wait 2 c hw next season wil start as a war btw twilight vampire n wolfs of dog soildier
Always been a bottom man, too.
Sticking so far out you could eat your breakfast off it is my idea of heaven.
My money’s on wolfs of dog soildier.
I’d almost rather Wigan and Newcastle are fighting for points. I’ve seen analysis before where relegation dog fight teams are less likely to win games than teams that are safe or doomed.
If Newcastle are safe and Wigan are doomed then their players start to take here eyes off 2012/13 the relegated team’s better players up their game as they want to attract a new club and the rest of the players the pressure is off and they can just go and express themselves.
As with bayern Munich and Arsenal… Beware a team that has nothing to lose.
So let’s all hope for a mass brawl in the spuds chavs game and a 10 point penalty for both
Interesting idea for a post, Micky.
I’ve not really been looking at the bottom too much.
Wigan could still get 44 points which would put them 9th in the current table.
Of course, they won’t get 12 points from their last 4 games as one of them is against us.
Teebillz,
Less of the SENIOR.
Unless you mean by virtue of rank. 🙂
This is certainly a mad about ass post.
Shard. Thanks for your comment. I should point out that the post was from a purely personal perspective and not meant to demean any new fans.
I fully accept that those who have only the Emirates experience will have a different viewpoint but I ask you this. …
Can you explain why The Emirates has yet to become Arsenal’s “fortress”? There was a time when all opposing teams would come to Arsenal expecting to lose – that is no longer the case, our away record is almost commensurate with the home.
Not even close Raddy 🙂
I have not done the maths properly, but I believe we really do want a Wgan win this weekend, followed by no more than a point against Swansea. Then, if yer Villas and Toons can get a win on the 12th May, Wigan will be down and out when they visit us.
I think 😦
@chas..
The SENIOR i meant should be by virtue of age, its really amazin’ how the regulars in here talk about The Arsenal of old and havin’ the feel of what my beloved club mean to some people. Comparison of latest and the left behind trend. ALWAYS checkin’ if the tradition is intact and all… I learn more and more when i read the post/comment of the group of intellectuals in the house…. The ‘mad ass’ was meant to be a compliment (maybe it wasnt the best selection of words to have used) sorry about that. Really
Teebillz
We prefer “bad ass” as we believe we’re still young, wild and firm buttocked 🙂
Micky,
I’ll get to reading your post in a minute..I’m sure it’ll be a good one.
BR,
I think that’s probably more to do with the quality of the team we’ve had rather than anything to do with the stadium. Although for a while, some players might have felt weird playing there too. I am not saying people don’t moan. I just don’t think it can be directly attributed to the club’s move towards becoming a bigger business, despite the obviousness of it. At least, I don’t think that is the sole reason.
And Big Raddy, you do not need to clarify things like you not intending to demean anyone. I know that, and in no way did your post do anything of the sort. I come across too strong sometimes, but I wasn’t arguing with you 🙂
Must be careful today, as all this smutty talk of tops and bottoms, and yet another post from that idiot DidIt could rapidly descend into farce. Again!
All intelligent footbally comments greatly appreciated 🙂
didit,
I guess you were the topper in maths in your school 😀 😀
Shard,
Good point. I do think the home crowd improves dramatically when star plays are performing before their eyes.
I think we do need “heroes”. It’s part of the fantasy. I’ll always remember the feeling of strolling towards the ground knowing Ian Wright was playing. The likes of DB10 and so on.
RA
I am disappointed that you seem to take my happiness at being an Arsenal fan, and my refusal to indulge in catcalls, and equate it with me being ‘placid’ or complacent, or simply accepting of status quo. 😦
I just believe in what we’re doing to change the status quo. Slow as it seems to some, and pure insanity to others.
My experience to those that went to Highbury regularly will obviously be different. It’s also going to be different to those that get to go to the Emirates regularly. And sometimes I think those that do, don’t understand how good they have it. I don’t exclude some of the older fans from this, which was my point to BR as well.
Manthan
Top in Carpentry, bottom in Spelin 🙂
Micky I wondered about the effect the Europa might have on Chavs, they have up until this point played half teams in the Europa, I wonder whether they will for the final….doubtful.
General consensus is Benitez will prefer the trophy over the League position as it’ll make his CV look better…..I have to disagree slightly, as I believe a CV that says “failed to achieve objective of CL qualification” will be quite damning when read by potential employers, especially if he can be seen to have done so in search of personal triumph/ego.
Would it be funny if Rafa got sacked for not getting Chavs in CL and didn’t get to take them to Europa final? Damn right it would, I’d be laughing my ass off!
We get to play after Spuds on Saturday so know what we need to do to stay ahead…..this hasn’t worked for us before, as there have been too many times when we have failed to take advantage of slip ups elsewhere.
Aahhh. The old top or bottom conundrum. Unambitious the lot of you. Why choose when it’s possible to get the whole package? 🙂
As to the rest of the article Micky, definitely an interesting idea for a post, and very important for us too what with it not being entirely in our hands. Unfortunately, I always find myself sort of turning away from analyses such as these. I just can’t bring myself to do it. Firstly because I have zero idea how the games will turn out, so I feel it’s quite pointless. Secondly, if things don’t go as I want them to, then I find myself worrying more and more about something which, as pointed out, might be meaningless (since the other fixtures could turn out contrary to predictions too), and which in any case, I or Arsenal, can do nothing about.
I prefer to take it a game at a time, and just broadly know what I want. I want Arsenal to win, Spurs to lose, and Chelsea to lose. Give me that the rest of the season, and I won’t need to ask for anything else 🙂
GiE,
I heard an interview with Rafa before the Semi, and he actually mentioned his CV and adding a European Trophy. Unbelievable, in terms of the Mourinhoesque “Me, Me, Meisms”.
Interestingly, he is highly thought of in Spain because of his record in European Competitions.
I think his only incentive for Chavs and a CL berth will be the contents of the bonus brown envelope.
And before the smart bottom halves among you point it out, I know Chelsea and Spurs can’t both lose when they play each other. I am willing to accept that small deviation from my stipulation. I’d take a draw or a Spurs loss.
“Utterly pointless” I’d completely agree with 🙂
But. I think it’s fun to cogitate on the possibilities of Chavs playing a safe Villa, or a fighting Villa.
But Shard,
Chavs losing to Utd as well as Spurs and they’re practically a gonner.
Micky,
Would it be worth it to finish below Spurs? Not that I particularly care about that, but I’m not going to wish for it. There’s also the consideration that the 30m CL money won’t mean much to Chelsea, but would mean a lot to Spurs, and would help them improve further. So, if it came to it, I’d rather Chelsea finished in the CL spot ahead of Spurs. I would like us to be 3rd and not have to play in a qualifying round though.
Wow,
I’ve only just read through my own post, which I didn’t do when scribbling away.
The links between Uncle Earnest, Tops and Bottoms are tenuous to say the least 😦
Shard,
Yes I’d rather Spuds came 5th, and your reasoning about money, attracting players and so on, is spot on.
However, I’m beginning to think it will end up with Chavs 5th.
My goodness, Shard, I paid you the compliment of responding to your comment and even re-posted it in case it got lost in the change over.
I did so to advance the proposition that there can be different perspectives depending on the respective experiences of individual fans.
My descriptive comment regarding myself was just that, and was in the context of Randy’s article which majored on moans and groans, but even then I went out of my way to say that I was no better or worse than any other fan in that respect, which would have included you.
Lighten up Shard, that was a general comment and not everything I write revolves around you.
Pre-exam sensitivity is all very well, but it can become boring having to keep explaining the obvious to you.
Teebillz,
You got it right! Whenever the Didit clan are in town mad assed, bad asses is a great description!! 🙂
In case you guys have not seen it, here’s part of Arsene’s interview.
I am delighted that he is saying all the right things!! 😀
–” Arsene Wenger today suggested for the first time he could stay at Arsenal beyond 2014. The 63-year-old was this week linked with a move to Paris St-Germain at the end of the season but Wenger reiterated his intention to see out his contract that runs for another year.
However, the Gunners boss has previously stopped short of declaring his intentions beyond that date until this morning at London Colney, where he revealed his desire to remain in charge at Emirates Stadium should both he and the club deem it the right decision.
“I want to stay [beyond 2014] if I do well and if I consider or the club consider that I do well, that is all,” he said. “I want this club to do well, that is my basic feeling. We have gone through a period that was very sensitive, we are coming out of it now, in a much stronger position financially.
“I believe the club are in a very strong position for the future. For the rest, my own person is less important, what is important is the future of the club.
“I answered that question [about PSG] already. I respect my contracts. Every football game excites me and football in general still excites me. The love for this club as well.”
As Standard Sport revealed this week, Wenger is expected to sit down with chief executive Ivan Gazidis at the end of the season to discuss his future although it may be that both parties decide to wait into the following campaign before agreeing their next move.
Whether or not Wenger extends his 17-year tenure could depend on results between now and then — especially with Arsenal’s Champions League qualification for next season still uncertain — but he insists there have not yet been any discussions about his eventual successor.
He said: “I don’t know if there has been any input on that. I believe a big club should be run where everybody does his job and I try to do my job. The only thing I can say is that I do it with a lot of commitment and a lot of loyalty. I try to do as well as I can for this club.
“I believe this club are in a very, very strong position and have gone through a very sensitive period in a very intelligent way. After that, everything is here to have a great future. We have a good fanbase, we have now a strong financial situation, we have good young players and a squad with a bright future with the quality of the young players we have. It is just to manage it well now.”
I hope we get 3rd place (obviously), and Spurs get 4th place. Chelsea 5th only.
And for one obvious reason.
Chelsea are a “Sugar Daddy” club. Spurs aren’t.
If Chelsea fail, that’s all arguments over as regards the “Chelsea way is the way to go” as far as I’m concerned.
At least until next season 🙂
For all Chelsea’s wealth they are only 3 points ahead of Spurs as the table stands today. 3 points? For all Chelsea’s wealth they should be further ahead, if one believes the like of ‘SleepingGiant’, who posted yesterday, and all fans of Usmanov.
I’m amazed that any Arsenal fan would prefer to see Chelsea finish above Spurs, regardless of our NORTH London rivalry. Chelsea are LONDON rivals also. Credit where credit is due… Spurs, this season up until now, deserve a CL spot more than Chelsea.
Teebillz,
I realised it was meant to be a compliment.
It was a fine choice of words too. Definitely nothing to be sorry for.
Big Al very true….look at the League winners (if you can without throwing up) they are self sustaining and haven’t needed a billionaire, in fact the Sheikh’s arrival has made the Glaziers potential gains lower as the club have to compete financially. But they do it off their own incomes.
RA I liked those Wenger comments especially about his commitment and loyalty, two unquestionable facts about the man which few can argue against.
Didit,
Great post Mate..
I agree with you everything depends on Villa and Wigan. I have a feeling we will finish 3rd, chavs 4th and spurs 5th.
GIE,
Agree Wenger is loyal towards arsenal. He could have left us when Real madrid offer came but he decided to stay and built an beautiful stadium without affecting our result. Teams have struggled financially once they move to new stadium but we never suffered financially all because of one Man ARSENE WENGER
There are strong rumors that Cesar coming to arsenal if this is true I am more then happy he is old, experienced, he will be cheap and moreover he will short term replacement for Scez. May be 2 years and by then Scez will become world class.
Arsene Wenger comments “I want to stay [beyond 2014] if I do well and if I consider or the club consider that I do well, that is all,” he said.
Bad news for gunners fans, Wenger says he wants to stay beyond his current contract.
Radical,
Next year do join celebration of arsenal winning PL. Its my invitation to you in advance
Thanks Micky. i do look down sometimes, but try not to bend over.
Teams fighting for there lives put in extra effort but also tend to play with fear, so it can work both ways for us.
Regardless, i expect us to make our final 3 opponents all bend over as we ravish them for points.
Excellent news about Arsene. I agree 100% with his expressed view, we have a great future.
Reality is, money buys success, that’s why Arsenal are not challenging.
No point in FFP, you’re just deluding yourselves, as is talking up the players.
Hoping Wenger can turn it around is just clutching at straws and shows lack of understanding.
Nobody’s fooled except those remaining in denial.
Arsenal Football Club need to raise their game and take it to another level if they are to be considered serious players.
Great minds think alike! That’s you and I son agreeing on the final games of this season. Sadly my prediction that we can finish 2nd had little substance, but hey ho, there is always the next season 🙂
Interesting interview with Le Boss. He confirmed my strong belief that he has no intention of leaving until he wins trophies again. Good man!
Red Arse, read bits of your notes and you settling for mediocrity shows your complete ignorance on the topic.
Ahh, but I have never been in de Nile — too many crocodiles.
What I have noticed about you radical, etc, etc, is that you clearly have delusions of adequacy, and the brain of a three year old — and I bet they were glad to get rid of it.
Red Arse,
We traded compliments. I paid you the compliment of caring about your opinion of me, even if I slightly misunderstood it. Either that, or I just like seeing you react in certain predictable ways, or both. I could have agreed with some parts of your post too, but where would be the fun in that, and what would be the point Mr. Burgundy Butt? We usually agree anyway. Boring though I am, I thought I was breaking the monotony by injecting some strife in the script. Pip pip.
Manthan
“old, experienced, and cheap”
Could refer to a number of us on this site 🙂
Sorry busy this pm. Trying to shut up shop.
Micky
I agree wholeheartedly with your point: Uncle Earnest was bang to rights and there were definitely some funny shenanigans behind the scenes (or should I say shaganigans?).
How is the Old Goat doing in his retirement home in Phuket?
Keep up Rocky.
I said in a post a year or more ago, how Uncle Earnest was sent North of the border. There he stays.
Off again 😦
Great post. I like nipples
I sat next to some guy in hospital and listened to him yapping on the phone. He told someone his plans for weekend and mentioned ‘Big Game tomorrow’. I recon he was a Spud, didn’t like him much.
Our game is not that big, is it? Important, but hardly dangerous, surely….
Dark oriental are my favourite
I like big fat willies 🙂
I am only joking, but why can men say things like you lot do, but women cannot?
radical
If usmanov gets control of the club who would you like as manager?
You can’t say you can’t because you just did 🙂
yeah, but only to wind you lot up a bit 🙂
truth be told all I care about is kind personality and high IQ, preferably no tits or big bum, but that’s less important than kindness
A kind personality and a high IQ, Evonne, well that counts all of us out — so can’t you go for expert hairdresser (GM), or champion Post writer (Rocky), or most travelled supporter/AAer, with a sense of humour (Chas), or … I had better stop or everyone not mentioned will beat me up — you know what those Didits are like!! 😀
WANTED
Bloke with kind personality and a big willie, high IQ, and preferably no tits or big bum.
If you fit the bill contact me URGENTLY!
ps: must like dogs.
I’ve got a girls bum
who is pretending to be me??!! That’s not allowed!!
RA – the opposite, 99% of regulars are kind and have high IQ. Sadly, some don’t like dogs and others look feminine 🙂
Let’s stop it, before it gets out of hand!! Back to football.

Anyone heard from Gn5 lately?
The Arsenal U21s are being given a footballing lesson by Liverpool U21s.
‘Pool could be 2 or 3 up in the first 30 minutes.
Evonne.
Roger = Big Al. 🙂
HT and it’s 0 : 0
49 mins; Arse 1 : 0 Pool
Eisfeld brilliant shot.
The pick of the players from both teams, so far, is a tall Portuguese kid called Cristian Adorjian (I think). He is strong and really skilful.
Ooops, Jernande Meade, the Arsenal right back has just missed an open goal.
Nobody interested? I am off — sayonara.
All gone a bit quiet.
RL. You are right ….Where is Gn5?
And where is Peaches? Have we been abandoned?
Evening all, think GN5 was on before United game, think he posted on report too.
I know he has said before the run in posts were a bit repetitive recently so maybe he has chosen to ignore. I emailed him earlier regarding the summer extravaganza planned for AA which I know he is putting a lot of work in to….being honest he is doing 95% of the work (hopefully) I’m just collating and posting up.
Morning All,
Exciting day over here. The QE2 is docking about half a mile from my apartment. Coming in with bells and whistles and flags.
And then Game Time.
Morning Raddy,
What is the QE2 used for these days? You’re lucky to have the distraction, I feel its going to be a long day waiting for kick off 😦
Silly me – it is the Queen Mary 2! a cruise ship & one of the world’s biggest.
you can read this Rasp, long but very interesting

Morning evonne, thanks, I’ll have a look 😛
Your link made me look at the following quote:
“We were disappointed in Southampton at the time, because we were first there, but they never came back to us. We were disappointed in that.”
Now who said it? I know who normally says things like that and gets extra criticism….but no this was Fergie talking about missing out on Bale…
I read that the other day evonne. It shows what a bunch of idiots they are
yes GM. It made me really wind up. Who are these people?? I need to check their backgrounds, tossers
The one mistake the PFA made was booking a comedian too intelligent for his audience. They made a choice based on colour, I can only imagine no one had ever seen his set before. I’d think more offence would be taken from his misogynistic material, again exaggerated for comic affect, but not great when the PFA were having the women’s awards on the same night.
Then again as I have said many times before comedy is all about personal taste and understanding of the joke. You don’t go to a Jimmy Carr gig and think that it’ll all be sweetness and light. Even where in my view there is no discrimination or offence meant I worry about the result. Take Little Britain and the sketch with the two WI ladies the one who can’t keep anything down if made by someone not English. Is this funny because its a mockery of the “but some of my best friends are …..” racist types, or is it actually being racist. Having watched it with people whose moral compass lies somewhere south of mine I can honestly say the sketches cause me concern as it could be seen to support their views.
Too deep for a Saturday morning, off to buy flowers.
Off to buy flowers…….very modern man.
😀 gardening flowers, wearing plastic Gazza breasts so I look like Charlie Dimmock 🙂
Morning all
Lovely to be here 🙂
