That’ll be the Day: Match preview:

Those who regularly read my pre-matches may have noticed a softening in approach over recent months; this is due to the Jonah effect. Every time I slagged off a team they took points from us. However, if nothing else, this season has persuaded me that my “lucky” habits have no effect on Arsenal’s performance, I have used lucky socks, lucky shirts, lucky cakes, lucky beer, lucky wine, lucky scarves, lucky routes, lucky sweets, and you know what – nothing works. Nothing.

So, have the new respectful  Big Raddy posts made a difference? Of course not, and as such it is with great pleasure that I return to the bile filled Raddy posts of the days of yore  ….. Today we play a team of Miscreants whose fans are pond life. No, that is an insult to pond life.

Spurs and their fans are a waste of skin.

All season long I have heard about how wonderful the Cave Dwellers are , how they play great football, how Monkey Boy and Ratface and Adewhore are the best team in the PL.  I guess 3rd gets you the title this season, in the unlikely event they stay there.  When we finish 3rd it is at best an average season and a reason for the media to have another pop about lack of trophies!

The last decent Spurs team – No colour photos available

But thanks to Harry, the fawning press highlight our “crisis” and their “resurrection”.

The media witch hunt for Mr Wenger coincided with the adoration at the feet of Harry (no doubt, soon to be Sir Harry). Strange that! But then who wouldn’t prefer a self proclaimed East End ignoramus to  an urbane well educated Frenchman?  Mr Redknapp embodies Spurs ambitions and traditions; no class and a market boy mentality mixed with underlying boot boy aggression.

You may have noticed I have omitted any talk of onfield activities. What can one say – for the first time in 15 years there is a probability there will be no St Tottts Day. It beggars belief and is a schism in the natural way of the world. It may well happen that Spurs finish the season above us as our team move into the next era of supremacy, but they will never be top dogs in London, they are third as they have been since homo erectus first crawled out of the swamplands of  N17.

But credit where credit is due, Spurs have played the best football this season, mixing pace with guile and determination. This Spurs team do not lie down and  to whose credit  is that? Is it the superb coaching from the miscreant Orcs, Clive Allen and Joe Jordan? Or could it lie in the hands of our very own Arsenal team? I believe you can trace the resurrection of  Spurs back to that dreadful day in Oct 2008 when we drew 4-4 at THOF; for the first time in an epoch, we let them off the hook, we gave them the belief that it was possible to get something from a lost cause playing against a better team.  AFC  2 goals up in the 88th minute …. you can probably relive the rest.

As to our team, once again we are blighted by injury; it seems as one player comes back we lose another. Sagna back – Mertesacker out. Gibbs back – Koscielny and Ramsey out. Nonetheless, we can put out a competitive side.

My Team;

Given the pace of Tottenham’s attack we must pray for the good health of Koscielny. JD has always been fragile under the stress of fast running forwards.  It will require Song to be defensively aware today. We are getting used to seeing Arsenal hit with the sucker punch and it is about time the midfield as a whole showed more defensive nous. We have to be clinical in attack; Theo needs to show he deserves his place as does Gervinho. It is in the big games that players show their mettle and this is as big as it gets.

Famous Gooner? Well, a few games ago I pointed out that George Carey, the Archbishop of Canterbury is a Gooner. You are going to love this …. so is Jonathan Saks, the Chief Rabbi 🙂  Jonathan Saks went to Christ College Finchley where he became a fervent Gooner. Of course, Saturday games were difficult for him but nonetheless he was a regular at Highbury and is often at The Emirates.

Should we pray for a Van Persie hatrick?

Important game today, perhaps not as hugely important as the media would have us believe, after all it is just the normal 3 points for a win. Following the two poor recent performances Arsenal need to give their fans something. Beating Tottenham today will be a huge fillip for the remainder of the season.

Spurs, Top Club in London?   That’ll be the Day.

    Sorry for duplicate message.

Peaches where about’s will you be in the Tavern, back or front. You will be the only one I might recognise.

  2. Big Raddy says:

GM. Hope you pop your cherry with a victory.

GIE. You are right but being an optimist I always expect s to win with ease. Of course, this results in some major disappointment !

  3. VCC – if it’s still sunny then probably outside the front. What time will you be there? I’ll come and find you if you haven’t found me.

  4. Rasp says:

    Great pre match Raddy.

The first of 3 vital games. Predictions are pointless in this one, we’ll know in the first 5 minutes whether we are up for it.

If we do get in front, I hope the team have been coached in pressing as a form of defence and not sitting back and inviting them onto us.

  5. Lovely pre-match Raddy, it doesn’t really matter what else is going on, this is an important game for us supporters. I’m terrified atm …….

gm – not sure how many scummers actually live in Swampland – my gardener is going in their end and he lives in Barnet

  6. VCC says:

    OK. See you later.

    COYG

  7. I wish Eboue was here 😦

  8. Top man Jonathan Saks 🙂 Hmmmmm I wonder what the scum make of that ……………..

  9. Anyone want to nail their colours to the mast and volunteer for the Match Report of all Match Reports ……………

  10. SharkeySure says:

    Cheers Raddy…cracking read.

I can’t see us losing today. If Tottenham play for a draw figuring that they can hold 3rd place, then that may cause us a problem, if we pour forward and leave ourselves open to the counter attack.

Perhaps our best bet is an open game..??

    I’m so glad I’ve got a busy morning ahead……

  11. Wow, I just texted someone Coyrrg and my phone entered it as Fourth!!!!! Is this a sign?

I’m getting silly now I know ….. have to eat something

  12. Jay says:

Sharkeysure, I dont think either side will sit back, this is why in my opinion the NLD is the most exciting game in world football we both go for it……

Manc derby and Liv v Everton are too cagey and cautious

Problem is if its open then they will beat us, Parker and King make a big difference and calm them lot down when they need to, we dont have anyone like that.

If we win then I think we need to score early, defend in numbers and hope RVP gets 1 chance to guarantee victory, thats just not the Arsenal way.

Wenger will start Walcott instead of Ox, he will be poor because Ekotto is equally as quick therefore making Walcott ineffective in a game like this, I just dont want it to be a hiding, we can admit they are better than us this season, finally, but we dont need any DVD’s made at our expense, as long as they dont outplay us and beat us then I will have to be happy

  13. Red Arse says:

Love the Post, Raddy, back to the hard hitting stuff we love.

I think I know what might be causing us difficulties against the Spuds.

The Holy Guys in the pic seem to be praying for some one called Van Perise.
Ask them to cancel that and get them to double up on Van Persie!! 🙂

  14. Big Raddy says:

RA. It is your failing eyesight! ( & The wonders of Editing 🙂 )

  15. Big Raddy says:

Out until after the game. Wishing you all a winning afternoon.

  16. slimgingergooner says:

Hope you all enjoy the game and avoid any hassle.

I’ve got a sneaky feeling you might be staying in the stadium longer than expected to celebrate a Gooners victory!

    Come on you Gunners!

  17. Rasp says:

My on site source tells me that the train from N London was packed with mouthy spuds. There will be many sitting amongst the Arsenal supporters. My guess is that the stewards won’t remove them to avoid inflaming things.

I have sat next to an obnoxious spud at a NLD and informed the steward several times and they did nothing about it.

  18. Rasp says:

MMmmmmm???? Benayoun and Rosicky starting, no Gerv or Ox so a lot relies on Gibbs providing the pace down the left.

  19. Red Arse says:

    Rasp,

Can you give us the full team, please?

  20. Jamie says:

Gutless – picking Benayoun and Rosicky is a joke.

Pick Gevinho and play the Ox in the middle instead of Rosicky, have a go.

Shame we never do that anymore.

  21. slimgingergooner says:

    Rasp,

As usual I have to disagree with you! Lol

    Sorry!

The team sheet tells me that Wenger has finally adjusted his plan to combat the opposition. Spurs are obviously going to come out strong, and Gibbs will need protection at LB. I believe the plan is not to lose the game in the first 30 minutes, then we can bring the likes of Gerv and Ox on in the last 30 minutes to win us the match.

Benny will definately give us more work rate and solidity on the flank.

  22. Rasp says:

    Arsenal
    13 Szczesny
    03 Sagna
    05 Vermaelen
    06 Koscielny
    28 Gibbs
    07 Rosicky
    08 Arteta
    14 Walcott
    17 Song
    30 Benayoun
    10 Van Persie

  23. Rasp says:

SGG, we are playing arguably the quickest team in the prem and we leave out 2 of our quickest players. I haven’t yet seen a game where Rosicky and Benny play well together – they are too similar.

  24. Rasp says:

The line-up suggests to me that we may be going to play like the away team. Contain them for 60 minutes and bring on the more menacing players when they begin to tire. I hope we have a definite strategy in place not the usual ‘concentrate on our game’

  25. Rasp says:

The problem with that idea is that if we are down with 30 to go, we will have to commit to attack and leave ourselves exposed to their pace on the counter.

  26. oz gunner says:

Agree Rasp, the best form of defence is a good offence. Look what walcott and gerv did against chelsea, they pinned their full backs back. RVP is going to be very isolated!

In saying that i feel very good about this game.

    3-1 to the Arsenal

Enjoy the game, see those online at the half

    Come on gunners!!!!

  27. oz gunner says:

cheers for the great pre-match to BR, love the fire

  28. slimgingergooner says:

    Rasp,

If I had known that Krancjar was playing right wing then I would’ve started Gervinho or Ox. So I agree aswell in a roundabout way!

Kaboul is a red card waiting to happen. Fingers crossed!

  29. RockyLives says:

    Great pre-match (of course) BR
    “waste of skin” 🙂

Strange team choices but, as Slim says, it looks as if AW has a plan…

Right – LET’S HAVE AT ‘EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope all of you going have good reason to celebrate afterwards.

  30. oz gunner says:

    @ Slim

how Kaboul gets picked in the french squad over kozza is beyond me. Although i’m not complaining because then there is less chance of getting injured!

    good point on kranjcar

  31. slimgingergooner says:

    Love Verm and Kozzer.

No handshakes in the tunnel. When we get on this pitch we’re going to break you in half! Lol

Could be the new Adams and Keown.

  32. oz gunner says:

what the hell was that defending????

  33. Rasp says:

    Not a great start 😦

  34. slimgingergooner says:

    Awful start.

  35. Rasp says:

We have a squad with 1 striker. We got rid of Arsh in January, they brought in Saha…………..

  36. oz gunner says:

our luck in a nutshell, big deflection one end, walker misses RVP’s shot down the other

  37. slimgingergooner says:

How the fuck does Mike Dean allow a quick free kick to be taken on the edge of our box!!!?

    Fucking wanker.

  38. slimgingergooner says:

    Oz,

    Totally agree.

How many times have we seen 1 shot 1 goal this season?

  39. slimgingergooner says:

Playing ok now but need a goal.

  40. oz gunner says:

    F*CKING Friedel your 41 not 20!

  41. oz gunner says:

The crowd is amazing, can hear them so well

  42. oz gunner says:

good, big yellow because parker can’t curb it, especially when it’s a fiery match

  43. oz gunner says:

    getting pushed into someone = a yellow…interesting

  44. Rasp says:

    dive = pen?????

  45. oz gunner says:

HE DIDNT TOUCH HIM, this is exactly what rooney did, left a leg in there

  46. slimgingergooner says:

Why is that cretin Mike Dean allowed to ref our games.

    He’s a fucking disgrace

  47. oz gunner says:

This is a bloody joke, Dean you wanker! A deflection and a dive screw over arsenal!

  48. Rasp says:

Last year they came back from 2 nil down to win – do we have the spirit to do the same?

  49. slimgingergooner says:

He hasn’t given a card because he didn’t know who touched him!

  50. oz gunner says:

The style of game i think we can rasp. Not going to help when walcott does things like that though!

Bale dived, the ball was going out, dean is a joke. It’s the triple threat of screw overs!

  51. oz gunner says:

its good to have him back! brave, consistent and a bloody good fullback

  52. oz gunner says:

thats it come on you mighty gunner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RVP!!!!!

  53. slimgingergooner says:

Theo’s been dreadful but that was a great pass to Robin in the build up

    Boooooooooooooommmmm!!!!!!

  54. slimgingergooner says:

Song has been immense in the last 15 minutes!

  55. oz gunner says:

He sure has slim, he is winning everything that comes his way and delivering it well also.

Yes theo did well with the pass but he really does need to lift. Compare his last touch to what AA did with a similar situation against Barcelona.

  56. slimgingergooner says:

That comeback has brought a tear to my eye!

    Let’s finish the job!

    ARSENAL, ARSENAL, ARSENAL!!!!!!

  57. Rasp says:

Fantastic comeback, 2 quality goals against their deflection and dive

  58. Rasp says:

Bale dives for a pen and Rosicky kicks the ball out of play when Ade is pretending to be injured – sums the two sides up

  59. oz gunner says:

Says a lot about Rosicky, i wouldn’t of kicked the ball out if ade was losing blood and a furious pace.

The yellow to Parker has taken a big bite out of their midfield, no longer is he snapping at heels, or flying into tackles.

I don’t think my heart can handle the second half.

    Come on Gunners, 4-2!

  60. Rasp says:

So I guess its Arsène’s half time team talk against ‘arry’s now

  61. SharkeySure says:

So many Spuds have dived so often, they’re all at it. I don;t get that the ref falls for it…even a dickhead ref like Mike Dean should see it for what it is.

At times I was worried about our desire, Spuds seemed to have more energy than us.

Second half, get Gibbs to sort out his defensive side, and get \Walcott off, and we’re sorted.

I dont care if Walcott gets a 2nd half hat trick, he really needsto go in the summer. You just can’t have the Ox and the Gerv on the bench watching Theo contribute so little.

  62. oz gunner says:

well said sharkespeare. Hopefully kelsey’s words come true and theo swaps with torres because i can’t watch him run and then leave the ball behind any more in this game

  63. Rasp says:

Let’s hope the ref evens it up and awards us a pen for nothing 🙄

  64. oz gunner says:

When your own GiE can you please explain to me the point of szcz shifting his weight to one side then diving the other. Yes i know it can throw the player off but it is seriously hampering his diving power. If he didn’t shift his weight to his left he could of reached ade’s penalty

  65. slimgingergooner says:

If you look at the keepers contributions then Friedel has kept them in the game!

  66. oz gunner says:

Agreed, he has made some very good saves. It mystifies me, he gets better with age.

Rosicky breaks the duck!!!!!! what a finish to lift it. Rosicky the rejuvenated man!

  67. Rasp says:

Brilliant, 2 more goals and we go above the chavs 😆

  68. slimgingergooner says:

That started from an immense Verm challenge.

    He’s been unbelievable so far!

  69. Rasp says:

Don’t try to sit on this lead, keep playing tjhe same way

  70. slimgingergooner says:

    I agree Rasp.

Keep at em like we did at Chelsea

  71. oz gunner says:

Well said Rasp. Don’t bring on a defender late either, bring on gerv or ox and hit them while they are exposed. We’ve got this!

  72. Cory (Gooner In NYC) says:

High pressure from the front line, loooooooving it

  73. oz gunner says:

good, sandro and parker no bite allowed in those midfielders. A toothless Tottenham, befitting really

  74. Rasp says:

    😆 🙂 😛

  75. slimgingergooner says:

    AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!

Anyone else dancing round their living room and high giving their missus!!!?

  76. Rasp says:

4 goals unopposed – 1 more and we’ll be above the chavs

  77. slimgingergooner says:

    #high fiving!

  78. oz gunner says:

Walcott lifted 3 gears, hats off to him! A brilliant tackle and a brilliant Finish.

Where has this spirit been lately? everyone is playing great, such passion

What can you say about RVP that hasn’t already been said. He is pure class!

  79. Rasp says:

    hahahahaaaaaaaa

    There’s the 5th …………

  80. slimgingergooner says:

Butter my arse and colour me red!!!!!!

Walcotts control is clumsy as fuck but my god he can finish!

Who was talking about a second half Theo hat trick!? Lol

    Brilliant!

  81. oz gunner says:

I was high fiving slim, but now i’m eating my scarf, well played in my song and another great finish. He has come out a different player this half

  82. oz gunner says:

    Sharkespeare you psychic

  83. Rasp says:

If the players can remember the feeling that must be coursing through their veins now and replicate it in the rest of the games we’ll be fine.

  84. slimgingergooner says:

I don’t care what Gary Neville says,

Thomas Vermaelen and Alex Song have defended brilliantly second half.

  85. oz gunner says:

Agreed Rasp, back to fourth, soon to overtake tottenham. The pressure in this match has been immense, it has to continue.
The whole team has been outstanding!

  86. oz gunner says:

    isn’t that RVP’s fifth yellow?

  87. Rasp says:

Hi oz, do you think it is the occasion that lifted the player’s work rate and given us that competitive edge we’ve lacked recently?

  88. Rasp says:

The Canaries have just levelled it against manu 😛

  89. oz gunner says:

most definitely rasp, something isn’t right if you do not lift in a derby match, especially given our recent form. The big question is why don’t we play with this kind of enthusiasm more often, we are unplayable on this form and with this kind of work rate.

  90. oz gunner says:

great news, now all we need is cardiff to win the cup over liverpool

  91. oz gunner says:

Adebayor you are a star! Worse thing arry did was take off saha

  92. Rasp says:

This game could easily be 6 nil, they had a deflected goal and a blatant dive and we didn’t get anything for their handball in the box

  93. oz gunner says:

    bale you overrated monkey!

  94. oz gunner says:

that should of been a straight red! wilshere got one for exactly the same thing on zigic. Yossi was great.

  95. Rasp says:

Good to see us going for the throat and not taking our foot off the throttle

  96. oz gunner says:

giggs scores in his 900th game, 2-1

    damn

  97. oz gunner says:

Lucky buggers who were in attendance! What a great game. Just what the doctor ordered for all arsenal supporters!

  98. Rasp says:

OK, we need a match report – surely there can’t be a shortage of volunteers 😛

  99. Red Arse says:

Oh yee of little whatnots! 🙂

  100. oz gunner says:

Surely it has to go to an experienced campaigner like a TA, GiE, Rocky, ect. Or even someone in attendance because they saw first hand and would have felt a surreal feeling being there!

  101. Red Arse says:

    faith = whatnots. 🙂

  102. Rasp says:

Ar5enal spu2s … you saw it here first 😆 can’t wait to get my copy of their limited edition DVD

  103. Red Arse says:

I am still shaking — memories of great Arsenal attacking teams of the past came flooding back. 🙂

Tactically? We defend like buggery!! 🙄 Who cares after a game like that!!!!!!

  104. Gooner In Exile says:

    Come the fuck on!!!!!

That was superb and the best hangover cure I could have, on my knees on the living room floor when TR7 scored, outstanding.

I have no superlatives to describe how I’m feeling.

Everything left on the pitch, great pressing all over the pitch, quick passing, imperious defending by Koz and Verm.

Now did everyone at the Emirates make sure they shook Clive Allens hand.

  105. Rasp says:

Does RvP miss the next game for accumulated yellow cards?

  106. Red Arse says:

I’m getting 10 copies of the CD.

My poor Spud friends will need one each to help them see how crap they are and to try and learn from the Gooner pass masters!!!!! 👿

  107. Red Arse says:

    GIE,

I would willingly like to grasp that prat Allen warmly by the………
    neck!!!

  108. Gooner In Exile says:

Rasp might be one of those days where just put the result up give every player a 10 and let everyone add their own feelings. 🙂

  109. Red Arse says:

    Rasper,

I cannot think straight, but I think at this stage of the season the next yellow card milestone is 10 yellow cards! 🙂

But you know I am always right???? 🙂

  110. oz gunner says:

    @ Rasp

RA emailed me this a few hours ago:

    ‘Oz,

do you envisage i should propoundment to do the match report? I’m about due for a post…so yeah i think i might catechize Peaches or Rasp if i can. It would be an canonization to write about such a voluminous match that Arsenal are sure to triumph (by a few goals too might i add). It’s decided i unequivocally will!

    Your pal,
    RA’

and Rasp I’m not making it up, look at the big words!!!

  111. Red Arse says:

    No, no, no GIE,

I insist you write a brilliant Post report. I want to wallow in the sheer unexpected delight of a fantastic victory.

If not you, then TA, or Slim, or Oz!! I insist — I want to hear about the game from a Gooner’s perspective. 🙂

  112. Rasp says:

Thanks RA, I think you are correct.

GiE, you are so right. I hope AW just sits down with them and says “that was fantastic, now do it all over again for every game from now until the end of the season”

  113. Gooner In Exile says:

Don’t think so Rasp I think slate gets wiped clean around Christmas and the next suspension comes at 10 yellows.

Hope Kozzer gets his rescinded as you surely can’t be booked for being pushed into someone?

And by the way that little git Parker gets away with tackles like that because he apologises like a good honest pro, except he maybe shouldn’t have made the tackle in the first place and wouldn’t be needing to apologise. What a huge front bottom

  114. Rasp says:

😆 oz, yep, that’s definitely right out of RA’s thesaurus (or is it gunnerthesaurus?)

  115. Red Arse says:

Oz, you scamp — they are such good words I have no idea what they mean — must be kangaroo rhyming slang!! 🙂

  116. Rasp says:

You can’t get a yellow reviewed as far as I’m aware – which is nuts.

Hope monkeyboy gets a retrospective yellow for diving with a 3.9 in piked position

  117. Red Arse says:

Just got to pop out for a bit.

‘Phoned my buddy to ask if he had seen the game — I knew the Spuds supporting git was glued to the screen — so just going around to help him — I think he was sobbing!!! 👿

  118. Gooner In Exile says:

  119. Jamie says:

I give up, can’t work this team out. Almost a 442 second half with Theo up front a lot. High tempo, brave.

By the way, I watch more football than anyone I have met and I know a bit but I keep getting this team wrong. I’m an idiot!

Days like this make you glad to have been obsession over every peice of crap for the last twelve months.

Three points, five goals, Parker sent off and lasagna for tea. As Kevin Campbell once said, sometimes there is nothing better in life than being a gooner.

  120. oz gunner says:

    hahaha great pic

    @ RA

haha i don’t believe it one bit, you wrote the bloody dictionary. The last person to speak ask good as you died in 1920!

    @ GiE

agreed, well done for Verm not wanting to shake it hand. ‘Sorry it appears I’ve just stabbed you in the mid section, will you accept my apology by shaking my hand!

  121. Gooner In Exile says:

Arsene tells it like it is:

  122. LB says:

    How’s them fucking apples.

  123. Red Arse says:

Just remind me — did Clive “I am an arsehole” Allen say that Arsene was a two bob manager?

So that would make him what, exactly? A bent dime? Yeah that sounds about right, a 5 cent tosser!!

  124. Gooner In Exile says:

    Very sweet LB 😀

  125. oz gunner says:

very well said Jamie, i hope married life is going good for you

  126. Red Arse says:

    Them’s great apples, LB!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 [count them – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5]

  127. Gooner In Exile says:

    Beebs match stats:

    Possession 56% – 44%
    Attempts 21 – 8
    On Target 13 – 4
    Corners 7 – 5

    Domination!

  128. dandan says:

Afternoon, Tell Evonne Thomas is going nowhere, my MOM by a long way, even among all those great performances. Has anyone considered AA leaving may have lifted the spirit in the squad 🙂

OOOH my Spuddy bro wont phone me from Spain today 🙂

  129. Gooner In Exile says:

I’d love to give a high five to a Spud right now ….

Geddit? Five to (5-2) geddit hahahaha happy days

  130. Gooner In Exile says:

    Truth:

  131. dandan says:

Great day, We do the Spuds big time and the wife is well enough to take out to dinner tonight.

  132. oz gunner says:

Great news Dandan, very happy to hear! long may it continue

  133. Jamie says:

Dandan – that’s good news. All the best mate.

  134. Rasp says:

Oh come on dandan, that result had everything to do with the occasion, the players, the preparation and AW getting it right – nothing at all to do with AA leaving

  135. RockyLives says:

    YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES

Top team in London? My sweet scented arse!

Henry Winter: “Only van Persie would get in my team made up of Arsenal-Totteringham players” – what a monumental fronts bottomus.

Just think what the score might have been if we’d had our full first team fit?

  136. RockyLives says:

    Good news indeed dandan.

  137. Rasp says:

Sorry dandan, forget the footie disagreement – great news that your ‘trouble’ is feeling better, have a wonderful evening.

  138. RockyLives says:

I can do a report if no-one else volunteers, but I really agree that it should be someone who was actually at the game…

  139. Big Raddy says:

    Phew, that was some ride!!

Exactly as AW said. Give us a decent pitch and we can play.

Great spirit shown all over the pitch.

Awful refereeing. The Bale dive seemed obvious from first viewing. The yellow for Kos a joke.

This is one happy Gooner and I am so delighted for the lucky folk who attended. I was in Peaches pocket and I can tell you she was very excited 🙂

  140. RockyLives says:

Spuds are having their best season for decades.

All their key players are fully fit.

They have been in good form.

We have had our worst start to a season for 50 years and have suffered two bad results.

AND THEY GOT SPANKED, ABSOLUTELY SPANKED, BY AN ARSENAL TEAM MISSING SEVERAL STARS.

    God I’m happy.

  141. Big Raddy says:

DD. Fantastic. Push the boat out and take her to your local Wimpy.

  142. oz gunner says:

    @ Rocky

and if bale didn’t dive, they didn’t get some fluke lobbed deflection, and friedel didn’t make a few brilliant saves!

In saying that though, as dandan said Rosicky was great, the whole team was. So i wouldn’t say the score line would have been any different

  143. RockyLives says:

    Spuds next three games:

    Manure (h)
    Everton (a)
    Chavs (h)

Third place here we come… 🙂

  144. RockyLives says:

    Agred Oz
Frankly, at 2-0 down we so did not deserve to be losing – but full credit to the players for not letting their heads drop.

  145. dandan says:

Rasp I put that in with a smiley, was feeling mischievous and wondered if you would bite having seen your 1;39 was naughty of me sorry. 🙂

  146. Rasp says:

No worries dandan, I canj laugh at anything at the moment 😆

  147. Big Raddy says:

So Spurs were the only ones in the top 5 who didn’t get 3 points this weekend.

    Big Club? My Arse

  148. dandan says:

Thank you for the good wishes guys, we are going to a very fine Chinese they have closed our Wimpy. 😦

  149. Rob Lucci says:

MOTM Rosicky.. Finding a replacement for him in the near future will be as hard as finding a replacement for Van Persie.

  150. RockyLives says:

From Arseblogger: “Supposedly our worst team for a generation sticking five past their best team that anyone can ever remember.”

  151. oz gunner says:

Agreed Rasp, cloud 9 at moment!

    @ BR

    hahahaha @ last line 4.23

  152. RockyLives says:

    Rob
He had a great, great game. It’s the first time he has had a run of games in the first team for several years and he’s starting to show his quality.

    What’s his contract situation?

  153. Big Raddy says:

Rob. I think you have had too much of the happy juice 😀

  154. slimgingergooner says:

    5-0 against Milan anyone!!!!?

  155. Jamie says:

Second half Rosicky and Benayoun stayed narrow, so we outnumbered them.

Walcott played as a right sided forward life Henry used to on the left. RVP was the pivot they all played off. We had players moving all over the place. Our normal 433 can be too rigid. Today we were fluent, maybe having two excellent full backs today enable the midfield to stay narrow.

    We looked like Arsenal.

  156. Red Arse says:

    Good point, Jamie. 🙂

Gibbs looked more like the “pre-injury Gibbs”, and was full of running. Very impressed.

  157. Gooner In Exile says:

    Great news DD

  158. Gooner In Exile says:

    I love you Bobby

  159. RockyLives says:

    Good assessment Jamie.

We did, indeed, “look like Arsenal” today.

I’d like to give some praise to Gibbs. He has never 100% convinced me, but I thought he had an excellent game today.

  160. oz gunner says:

Sagna as well. He didn’t give Bale an inch so he had to swap sides. Plus he got forward at every opportunity making sure walcott wasn’t double teamed. His crossing was good, and he finished with aplomb.

  161. RockyLives says:

    Redders
    Haha – snap 🙂
Gibbs looked like a proper player today.

  162. Red Arse says:

    DanDan,

Delighted with the good news regarding your wife!! 🙂

Actually, I was wondering where to go for a meal tonight, but you have given me an idea, — I’m ashamed to say most of the guys I know are either Spudees or closet Chavs, but a nice Chinese with my girlfriend will do the trick — [she can drive]!!! 🙂

  163. RockyLives says:

    Thanks Super – good stuff

  164. Red Arse says:

Oh, stop it Corky, you are always copying me — sometimes before I say it admittedly!!! 🙂

  165. Jamie says:

Goals conceeded, Just re-watching, first goal, lack of pressure and bad luck, second goal, bale wouldn’t get between them if they had been playing together for a few weeks.

On Gibbs, he has everything you need. But he has to stay fit for a run. They all do. He can’t miss 2/3 of every season, hampers his progress and ours. If Santos was fit you could give him a breather when need but the have never been fit at the same time.

  166. RockyLives says:

And GiE – great tweets – keep ’em coming…

  167. Red Arse says:

    Slim,

Have you noticed any of the Super League scores? 🙂

I think Wigan are under the cosh — only 36 points ahead! 🙂

  168. oz gunner says:

    @ slim

definitely! I want another ‘Italian job’ dvd

  169. RockyLives says:

I know I’m a bit obsessed about how the lack of real full backs has hampered our season…

Well… apart from the Milan defeat (where Sagna and Gibbs were returning from long injury and Vermaelen was playing his first game at CB for some time) we have not started a game with two orthodox full backs since we beat West Brom 3-0 on NOVEMBER 5TH!!!

    Until today that is…

  170. Big Raddy says:

I think it would be entertaining to have a look on the Spurs Community sites.

    Losers ……

And despite my protestations that nothing lucky works, it is blatantly obvious that my return to aggressive pre matching was the fundamental reason behind our win:-)

Take that you slime eating miscreants, you filthy blue-bellied knaves

  171. evonne says:

    Did we win today?

  172. Gooner In Exile says:

    Oh Ah Ray Parlour

  173. Red Arse says:

I normally would not give a Spurs fan any time, but you might like to read his post match report.

—-“Just three words. Three words that make up one phrase that describes how Tottenham Hotspur blew a two goal lead, why they’re now no longer title contenders and why Arsenal fans are having fun at the expense of Tottenham this Sunday.

    Same old Spurs.

Arsenal rallied and then routed Spurs 5-2 at the Emirates on Sunday.

Things looked good: When Spurs were lucky to take a 1-0 lead just four minutes in. Emmanuel Adebayor found Louis Saha streaking down the field with roughly 120 yards of space (only slight exaggeration here) with which to work. Saha played the ball into the penalty area before firing a left-footed strike that deflected through the legs of Thomas Vermaelen and then sailed over goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny before bouncing into the net. It was a dream start for Spurs, one that only got better 30 minutes later.

In the 32nd minute, Luka Modric played a ball down the center of the pitch for Gareth Bale. Bale beat two Arsenal men to the ball before playing a touch inside the penalty area. Bale made contact with both Szczęsny and a defender before falling to the ground a bit too easily and a bit too dramatically. Referee Mike Dean bought the show, however, and Spurs were awarded the penalty. Former Arsenal front man Adebayor beat Szczęsny with the subsequent PK, and Tottenham had the hosts on the ropes.

The match changed: When, instead of going for the kill, Spurs set up shop in hopes of getting into the break up two. Modric and Scott Parker, who were both booked at the half-hour point, disappeared until the final 20 minutes of play, and Arsenal were allowed to dictate the rhythm of the game during the contest’s final 60 minutes. After a few unlucky bounces in the Tottenham box, the Gunners found a deserved goal in the 40th minute. Mikel Arteta played a little chip from the left portion of the penalty area toward the center of the box, and Bacary Sagna beat his marker and caught Spurs ‘keeper Brad Friedel wrong-footed on a header that sailed into the net. It was “game on,” and the competition didn’t last very long.

The game was over: If I’m going to be honest, it was over once uncrowned Footballer of the Year Robin van Persie leveled the match before the break. Three minutes after Sagna’s header, Van Persie found himself with possession just a couple of steps outside of the center of the box. The Dutch wonder was given far too much space, and he squared up and curled a left-footed beauty that Friedel had zero chance of stopping.

Spurs were the walking dead after the equalizer. Even coming out of the tunnel after the break, Tottenham looked like a dejected and defeated side. Tomas Rosicky needed just four minutes to find his first goal in a half-decade (only a slight exaggeration here), and then Theo Walcott doubled Arsenal’s lead 14 minutes later during what was essentially a 2-on-5 sequence. Van Persie did well to hold off two defenders before finding the streaking Walcott, who beat Scott Parker to the ball before making his way into the box. Friedel came off his line, Walcott chipped the ball over the ‘keeper and into the net, and I began wondering if I could, in fact, finish an entire bottle of liquor in under an hour. Walcott added a “salt in an open wound” goal three minutes later, just as Manchester United were coming up with a winner at the death over Norwich City.

    Spurs have seen better weekends.

What it means: Arsenal, a wounded animal has new life, and Tottenham’s title dreams are dead. Spurs are still seven points clear of fourth place Arsenal, but Tottenham now trail United by eight points, and they trail Manchester City by ten.

Overall: Manager Harry Redknapp has been superb throughout the current campaign. He got it all wrong at the Emirates, however, failing his squad with odd tactics and poor substitutions (Sandro for Saha? Yes, that happened). Arsenal weren’t just the better side during the final 65 minutes. The Gunners were in a different league than their rivals once Tottenham went up 2-0. Spurs must now have short memories, as they host United next Sunday.

It really is going to be a long week.

    A very fair appraisal!! 🙂

  174. Big Raddy says:

RL.5.00 And if my memory serves, that was with the 19 y.o. Corporal Jenkinson!

  175. Gooner In Exile says:

  176. evonne says:

After their 2 jammy goals I started to clean the kitchen just listening with one ear, couldn’t watch it. And missed 2 first goals!!!!

Oz – I am sorry now that the old Spud across the road died last year; I would have gloated for weeks now!

Our worst team under Wenger against their best team ever 🙂

  177. Gooner In Exile says:

  178. RockyLives says:

    BR
It was indeed. You have to go even further back to find when we last started with two first choice FBs (probably the Spuds game where Bac got injured, although I haven’t checked).

  179. RockyLives says:

    Evonne
You have made me smile over the last couple of days by sharing your emotional roller coaster with us.

And now you wish the poor old Spud across the way hadn’t died after all. You are very funny 🙂

  180. oz gunner says:

Great match report from a very honest spud, very shocked!

    @ Evonne

well done for sitting back down, i thought we wouldn’t see you for a few years had the score not corrected itself.

    @ All

Enjoy the rest of your day, what a match, glad to watch it, and a pleasure to chat about it with such great fans. Cheers for the match company rasp and slim

  181. evonne says:

Rocky – I wasn’t really scared, well not much. Duvet is for girls, not for football fans anyway 🙂

My God, I love Arsenal with all my heart.

Today was as good as winning a trophy, a difinitely better than winning a carling cup, Cardiff can have it

  182. oz gunner says:

    @ Evonne

i’m sure he heard you cheering from the grave, and has since rolled over

  183. evonne says:

Oz – 🙂 Now you can concentrate on your studies and do us Gunners proud!

  184. Red Arse says:

    Nite Oz — or G’Mornin’!! 🙂

  185. evonne says:

Raddy – that was a brave closing sentence from you ‘Spurs, Top Club in London? That’ll be the Day’. You must have been certain we would win

  186. goonermichael says:

What a nice day out I’ve just had 🙂

  187. evonne says:

GM – why is that ?

  188. RockyLives says:

    GM
    You’re the lucky charm!
Your attendance is now compulsory at all future NLDs 🙂

  189. Red Arse says:

You have to go to ALL home games in future GM!!! You are obviously our lucky mascot. 🙂

  190. oz gunner says:

    @ Evonne

don’t worry, first order of forensics business:

frame ‘arry for murder. That way he will be behind bars like he should be

  191. Red Arse says:

    Will you stop it Rocky!!

  192. MickyDidIt89 says:

  195. RockyLives says:

    Stop copying me Redders 🙂

  196. dandan says:

Kelsey have you seen the news, we played with 2 proper fullbacks again and TV and Koz in the middle, tried to adjust my TV but it was true 🙂

  197. Big Raddy says:

    kelsey 🙂

A very enjoyable 15 mins spent reading the Spurs Blogsites. An example …

“I felt this for sometime now that we would not finish in the top four, the only good thing about that would be that if Redknapp leaves for England then we shan’t be too disappointed”

And they are absolutely slating Adebayor, Questioning his loan, his talent, his application, his lack of backbone etc etc Brilliant stuff. And what makes it even more amusing is that perhaps the numbskulls should focus upon a defence that conceded 5 goals if playing the blame game!

  198. evonne says:

Micky – to be completely fulfilled I need a Spud to rub his filthy gob in the result, I am going out to look for one

  199. kelsey says:

I know nothing dandan, will watch the highlights later. I always knew Walcott would come good. 😉

  200. MickyDidIt89 says:

Evonne, Thank God you did your hair and nails 🙂

  201. evonne says:

Micky – exactly!! What would I look like running around my car and screaming if I didn’t prepare?

  202. RockyLives says:

    Evonne
    “running round my car”
Bloody hell, how big’s your car?
Do you have a Stretch Limo Hummer?

  203. goonermichael says:

I’m exhausted and my voice has gone. Glad to hear about your wife dandan.

    Cardiff should have scored then

  204. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Evonne,
I was really thinking that if you are going out to duff over a spud, then its important to look your best!

  205. MickyDidIt89 says:

When and where is the first chance I’ll get to watch the whole match? Arsenal i-player?

  209. SharkeySure says:

    Overall a truly fantastic afternoon.

Smash the spuds (!) AND regain 4th place from the Chavs….

As someone else said…3rd place here we come.

    Back later…..

Gonna float downstairs for my dinner

  210. evonne says:

Rocky – tiny car, Golf, had to do a few rounds looking my best!!
I just wanted the whole world to know that Arsenal are the bestest thing in the world, and once I started running I couldn’t stop

And we had NO injuries! not one! And THEY are playing mancs without Scott Parker. We will finish 3rd, who knows might even win the League 🙂

  211. goonermichael says:

Watch out for the handsome gooner at the end

  212. goonermichael says:

    Yessssssssssssssss get in

  213. Nike says:

on injuries to Rosicky and Vermaelen…

Unfortunately we had some bad news for Rosicky today, and Vermaelen as well. Vermaelen has an ankle problem, and Rosicky a back problem. I don’t think they will be available for Wednesday, whether they are available for Saturday is a big doubt.

  214. evonne says:

Pepe Reina is great at penalties, Pool will win 😦

Nike – are you sure?? Bloody hell, I was sure we escaped unscathed

  215. goonermichael says:

    gerrard you wanker lol

  216. goonermichael says:

  217. Nike says:

    Come on Cardiff 😀

  218. slimgingergooner says:

    I love Today!

I wrote a while ago how I thought Benny could be our answer to Ji Sung Park in the big games, and I thought he was outstanding today along with Rosicky. Gave everything on the pitch and was buzzing around like a bee when we went forward.

    RA,

Can’t say I’ve seen any Rugby League this weekend. Who needs it when football can be this good!!!!?

  219. goonermichael says:

    dirty car stealing scouse scumbags

  220. slimgingergooner says:

  221. Nike says:

    GM 6.44 LOL

    Too bad for Cardiff

  222. Big Raddy says:

    Tough for Cardiff.

Bad news about TR and TV. Hope they can be fit for the weekend.

  223. Big Raddy says:

And of course our players returning unscathed from the Internationals.

What idiot decided to play friendliest mid- season.?

  224. Gooner In Exile says:

Is that why TV and TR7 are “injured”,surely RvP picked up a knock too, and I’m sure Theo limped off. Wrap them up in cotton wool and tell the international managers to f off.

  225. MickyDidIt89 says:

Injuries to TR and TV? Were they due to play Internationals by any chance?

  226. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Damn GiE,
    Beat me to it 🙂

  227. Gooner In Exile says:

Have we got another Denis on our hands?

  228. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Back from the game and absoloutly delighted with the result.I was convinced we would win today because ive always believed we are a better team than Totnumb. We have got into the habit of underrating our players and thats a shame coz we have a great team in the making.

Every player was great, but i would like to single out Theo and Gibbs. These 2 boys have taken a lot of stick for one reason or another but will keep improving and become title winners at Arsenal. Onwards and upwards.

  229. Jamie says:

Anyone else think that is Wenger saying no chance TR and TV are taking a knock to a friendly?

They are still possible for the Liverpool game, he is bound to play that down.

  230. gooner lost in cornwall says:

Just an observation ( I`m refrained from trying humour after being put on the AA naughty step ), Friedel,Bale,Modric, Sandro,Kaboul, King, Walker, VdV, Defoe etc, I`m not a shirtlifter, but what a goodlooking squad of players they have, they make Rory Delap look like Brad Pitt. It wouldn`t surprise me If evonne has flooded her Knickers looking at that lot !

  231. Big Raddy says:

TMHT. You lucky chap. Wish I had been there

  232. Big Raddy says:

Glic. Blasphemy and ad extremely poor vision

  233. RockyLives says:

    GLIC
    You are incorrigible 🙂
I was watching at my mate’s house and when the camera did a close up of Modric my mate’s 8-yr-old son spontaneously came out with “Dad, why is he so ugly?”.

  234. RockyLives says:

A quick jaunt round the Spudder blogs is recommended for anyone wanting a laugh.

Redknapp has made them more competitive than they have been for a generation, yet almost every Spudder seems to want him out.

Likewise, the amount of criticism for the Monkeyman is extraordinary, and Adebarndoor is coming in for lots of stick too.

    Haha

The Siege is over and the sacred bones of St Totteringham are beginning to stir in their reliquary…. 🙂

  235. gooner lost in cornwall says:

😆 Excellent Rocky, He should have told him It`s the Criteria of being a Spud !

  236. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

The spurs team are without doubt one of the ugliest teams around. Any body out there with latent homesexual tendancies that wishes to surpress them would do themselves a favour by looking at there team photo for 10 minutes. A gauranteed cure if ever there was one. I have also noticed there supporters are ugly gits to, most of them look like schizophrinics.

  237. Rocky – 26may has returned to these shores and I’ve nobbled him to write the match report – in the nicest possible way of course 😉

  238. chas says:

    Superb pre-match, BR.
I think you should suss out the lucky elements in it and reproduce for the rest of the season.

Fabulous day so far for me. Second best NLD I’ve attended ever (only beaten by 5-0 at the Lane in1978).
Off for a joyous read of the comments.

  239. RockyLives says:

    Great Peaches
    I’ll do a Monday-for-Tuesday then…

  240. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

    Peaches,

Coming back from todays game i had an idea for a post. I will email it to you in the next few days.

  241. RockyLives says:

    chas, Peaches, GM
Any more “atmosphere” accounts you can give us armchair viewers from today’s game would be most welcome 🙂

  242. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

I was at the 5 nil Chas. I was only 13 at the time, and the parklane that day was the greatest atmosphere ever.

Raddy, excuse my manners Sir, great pre match as always.

  243. gooner lost in cornwall says:

I said on here before, the Spud game Is the one that fills me with dread, one that causes me a lot of stress, I was shaking more than a Shaking Stevens vibrator before this game. This may surprise you, I recorded the game and went outside lumberjacking for two hours, I then asked Mrs glic to look up the score and tell me If we Won, Drew or Lost without telling me the score, she said we Won and I rushed Inside to watch the game Semi – Live, I must admit after finding ourselves 2-0 down, I warned Mrs glic, ” this better not be a wind up as I know a good divorce Lawyer “. As I allways said , “You cant beat coming from behind ” !

  244. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Rocky, was it a penalty? i couldnt tell were i was. I was bricking it that Shezney was going to get sent off.

  245. Gooner In Exile says:

    TMHT it was a dive….

By the way whoever started singing

“He Pays Tax When he wants”

Genius…..was it loud it didn’t seem it on TV but then they would probably reduce volume for those bits.

  246. gooner lost in cornwall says:

Sorry Biggy Rads, Superb Pre – Match.
Anyone else at the Lane for the 5-0 in `78 , So far Terry, Chas and Me, I didn`t suffer from the nerves in them day`s !

  247. Big Raddy says:

He pays tax…….. There are some very funny goners.

I agree, the more input from those lucky attendees the better .

  248. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

That was hillarious GiE. At one stage that echoed around the whole ground hahahaha.

So it was a dive. Monkey boy is making a bit of a habit of that. I still reckon we would have come back and beaten them with 10 men, but it would probably have been 3-2.

  249. slimgingergooner says:

    TMHT,

It definately wasn’t a pen. Bale dived.

The fact that Dean didn’t even book anyone just goes to show that he didn’t have a clue who was supposed to have brought him down as Gibbs was sliding in at the same time as Szscesny was diving at Bales feet.

Parker was begging for a red and could be seen shouting Mike, Mike, Mike to try and get Deans attention. He looked disgusted when Dean ignored him.

  250. Big Raddy says:

Glic. Couldn’t get a ticket, but lived it on the radio. My best NLD was the Rocky semi- final at the Lane. Or was it the Tony Adams SF at Wembley? Or the TH14 at Highbury?

Sod it, there are too many victories to remember

  251. RockyLives says:

    TMHT
As others have said, definitely a Bale dive. He basically did a Rooney – left a trailing foot to try to pretend he’d been fouled.

To be honest, at first glance in real time I though it was a pen and it might well have looked like one from Dean’s position. However, the lino was in a perfect position to see everything and for him not to have persuaded deal to change the decision to a booking for Bale was very poor.

  252. RockyLives says:

    *Dean (not deal)

  253. gooner lost in cornwall says:

We`re spoilt for choice Raddy 🙂

  254. Big Raddy says:

No surprise that there has benn no fuss made about Bale’s dive.

After all Monkeyboy is the best player in the PL

  255. slimgingergooner says:

Did you notice that Dean only went to the linesman because he said he had been hit on the head?

He never even asked him about the penalty.

I couldn’t believe it when Dean allowed Spurs to roll a quick free kick into our 18 yard box whilst we were complaining about the free kick decision. Appalling refereeing!

Thinking about it, we have now got rid of our Mike Dean hoodoo!!!!! Thank fuck for that!

  256. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Thanks guys. i must admit i thought it was in real time.

Liverpool game is crucial next week. Spuds have Utd and Chelsea at West Brom. A big win there and 3rd place is ours.

I know we’re not supposed to comment on other blog sites here, but here are some comments today from a popular site whose initials begin with L and G.

BEFORE THE GAME, AFTER ANNOUNCEMENT OF STARTING XI:

“Wow what a pathetic team, cant believe Rosicky starts”

“Yossi and Rosa can’t play together how many time do we need to explain this to you, you little count?!”

“worst team selection everworse players in same formation….spurs are going to tear us a new one”

    AT 0-1 DOWN:

“Hey don’t worry it needs a thumping loss vs the N17ers to flush the shit from the system…..And to start the phoenix from the flamesMore goals please totters….”

    AT 0-2 DOWN:

“Burn the stadium and hang Wenger”

“Off you go WENGER you c**t of c**ts you c**t have destroyed the clubs we fans love this has to be the final nail in your coffin RESIGN YOU C**T TODAY ”
(I added the asterixes – RL)

Frankly it’s a disgrace that these scum even call themselves Arsenal supporters and that that awful site is so willing to give them as much space as they want to vent their angry, foul-mouthed, incoherent spleen.

    Thank God for AA.

Even at 0-2 down today the comments on here retained perspective.

    I’m having so much fun

  283. goonermichael says:

At 2 nil I felt like I did in the Villa cup game. I thought we were by far the better team, They had a lucky deflection and a non penalty (dean is bent no doubt about that). I thought we could beat them and I couldn’t hear anything negative from our fans. The spuds went quiet when we got the equaliser and stayed schtumm for the rest of the match. I went back to the Tavern to soak up the victorious atmosphere. My voice has completely gone now and I’ve got a life threatening dose of man flu.

  284. goonermichael says:

    It was me chas 🙂

  285. RockyLives says:

I’m jealous of you lot who went.

Just read a good stat: Arteta completed more passes that any two Spud players combined…

  286. gooner lost in cornwall says:

Good luck gm, It`s been ten days and I`ve still got a ManCold, To have Man Flu make`s you one of the Bravest of the Brave, your fighting spirit Is magnificent, I salute you. Medal Is In the Post !

  287. chas says:

    gm,
so you enjoyed losing your North London derby virginity then?

You can’t get flu in one afternoon, not even from a spud.

  288. LB says:

Arteta has been looking a little bit tired in the last few games but someone must have changed his batteries just before the start because he was back to his brilliant self, he was my MOTM followed very very closely by the Black Franz Beckenbauer.

  289. LB says:

I have been looking up the comments expecting to see something from Ghost face wishing the boys well but nothing, strange that.

  290. RockyLives says:

    LB
I’m inclined to go along with those who have picked out TR7 as MoTM, but Arteta’s contribution was also fantastic. As well as his passing he won 4 out of 5 tackles and 8 of 11 duels.

  291. chas says:

How does that make you feel, Bacary?
    http://twitpic.com/8p4rn6/full

  292. RockyLives says:

    LB
    “nothing from GhostFace” 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  293. LB says:

    HI Rocky

    What a great day

  294. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

LB, maybe he looked directly at Modric, so is now Stone Face instead.

Gibbs was brilliant today, future England left back without doubt.

  295. pat says:

Yeaaaaah!!! Just worked up the courage to check the score – I couldnt wait until I watched the recorded game, what a great result. Fantastic – great day!!!!

  296. LB says:

Interesting call on Gibbs; he still has to do a bit more for me but deffinitely going in the right direction.

Jenkinson was a pleasant surprise, very reasured, far more than I expected, his body language oozed confidence.

  297. goonermichael says:

It’s so much better than the score suggests pat

  298. LB says:

    Hi Pat

You have got a real treat in store.

  299. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

LB, Jenks will chalange for the England right back spot to. When was the last time we had both fullbacks playing for England at the same time?, its gona happen with these 2.

Now I’m about to watch The Arsenal thump Spuds.
I watch all games, and many losses, and I miss this one!!
Have never been so excited about MOTD. Have avoided all clips of goals. 10 mins to go. Very Happy Days.

  301. SharkeySure says:

Cheers RL…thats the last bit of ‘sunshine'(?) that I look for on days like today…the in game comments on LG, where people embarrass themselves to an extent that you simply would not have thought possible. So thanks for saviong me the time.

Where there any comments bout Song..?? He is scapegoat no.1 over there.

    Burn the stadium..??

Like I’ve always said, think of it as a Victorian approach to the insane…ie keep them all in one place, let the rest of society forget about them, or occasionally peep thru the window to see what their up to as part of some sort of anthropolgical study.

Anyways, early night for me …two days in Edinburgh coming up, 6.30 departure. I never travel for work. EVER. At least its Edin and not Halifax where one of the others is going

  302. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Pat, enjoy, its bloody great…but what ever you do dont stare directly at Modrics face, use a mirror.

  303. LB says:

    TM

He does have that look about him.

I am not sure how Arsene is going to work this, Jenks is too good to stay on the bench and Sagna is a good defender.

  304. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

I love Sagna LB, its going to be a real fight for that spot with Jenks next season.

  305. MickyDidIt89 says:

Where there many Spuds sneaking out early?
    Ha ha ha

  306. goonermichael says:

Jenkinson is fine as back up for a while. aaHe’s very young. It will be brilliant to have 1+a back-up.

  307. MickyDidIt89 says:

    GM,
I saw your clip. Brilliant. You must have had a great day.

  308. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Nite all.

  309. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Match of the day is starting..bliss..hahhahahhahahahhhehehehe.

  310. Gooner In Exile says:

Bacary is 29, Corporal Jenkinson is 20. Good ages for the introduction.

He looked full of pride whenhe came on, true Gooner.

  311. slimgingergooner says:

MOTM for me was between Song, Rosicky, Verm and Arteta.

I lost count of the number of headed clearances Verm made in the 2nd half. Song was epic also and I loved how he outmuscled Adebayor throughout the whole game.

Arteta was outstanding without over playing. He is so calm on the ball.

Rosicky probably pinches MOTM for his ability to drive past opposition midfielders. His finish was fantastic aswell.

What a fantastic team performance and what a game. These cretins on LG are a disgrace to the club and should be ashamed. They will no doubt be cheering Liverpool on next week, pathetic.

  312. slimgingergooner says:

Gibbs definately has the potential to be England’s next LB but he still has a lot to improve on. His positioning for the first goal was dreadful. However, after that he was fantastic. He ran Walker ragged every time he got forward.

  313. MickyDidIt89 says:

Damn this is fun, and I’m still only on my fourth re-run. 🙂

  314. I’ve been to the game, watched it again, watched MOTD and now I’ve got it on again. I’ve read the blog, pressed F5 dozens of times and now I think I really believe that we beat the scum 5-2 today 🙂

    What a lovely day.

I like this team much better than the one that played at Sunderland last week – can we keep this one please, this one knows how to play football.

  315. gooner lost in cornwall says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA……………..hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe

  316. TotalArsenal says:

That’s how we like the Spuds: peeled, chipped, fried and devoured -proper cannon fodder! 😀

Today, we owned the midfield again and commanded play. Five great goals, and brilliant performances from every single player. As ’26’ is doing the MR, I wont say much about The-O. Thought that Rosicky played really well, and it was great to see how much his goal meant to him – his facial expression was simply orgasmic. Arteta, Rosicky, Song – a new variant of ARS – made the difference today and I am so pleased we saw the old familiar Arsenal style of footie back again.

One of the biggest benefit of today’s result is that we will not have to listen to anybody trying the Spud – Arsenal players comparison for a while, as in who would make it of Arsenal into the Spuds squad. Today every single player outperformed his opponent, possible with the exception of the goalkeepers.

    Oh to, Oh to be, Oh to be a Gooner 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 – 😦 😦

  317. TotalArsenal says:

Love the banner, Rasp/Peaches. Let’s keep it on for the rest of the season! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHI HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHI

nice to meet Peaches again, and meeting chas and goonermichael.
Hope you enjoy the CD guys.

Days like these don’t come much better. My Son and I dancing on the seats at the Emirates.

off to watch the high lights on MOTD.

    Happy Dayz fellow GOONERS.

  319. TotalArsenal says:

Raddy, a very fine pre-match report. You were so right when you wrote:

“It may well happen that Spurs finish the season above us as our team move into the next era of supremacy, but they will never be top dogs in London, they are third as they have been since homo erectus first crawled out of the swamplands of N17.”

    Long may it continue!

  322. TotalArsenal says:

    Great picture Chas 🙂 thanks

  323. oz gunner says:

God when you wake up the feeling is still very much there! What a game, time to download so I have a copy forever.

Arteta was a force on that pitch, locked in combat against sandro, modric and parker, yet he didn’t take a step back whatsoever!

Song was great, definitely stuck to his job and set us up with a few good passes as well. Funny how Ade was getting no joy out of Verm and Kozzer in the air, so he moved up to Song and was still getting nothing. All 3 didn’t give an inch in the 50/50’s

Monkey boy is a disgrace, diving around the pitch whenever he got a chance to. In the first few minutes when Sagna barely touched him he went down clutching is leg and rolled around like he was dying. Free kick gets awarded and he springs back up. World Class pfft no chance in hell!

  324. oz gunner says:

Dalglish and Kuyt: ‘trophy victory can be the catalyst for a glourious new era’

‘the win today would spark a trophy sweep’

Good analysis there OZ and good morning to you! 🙂

    Very funny GiE 🙂

  328. Herb'sArmy says:

Hi everyone, brilliant pre-match Raddy, as usual.
    What a corker!!!
Arsenal were simply different class today and normal order has been restored.
Szczesny – No chance with either goal (never a penalty!). Has the potential to be immense next season. 7
Sagna – After a shaky couple of games, was back to his imperious self, and what a goal! 9
Gibbs – Is growing with every game, and today he looked an Arsenal player. 8
Koscielny – He has developed into a quality centre-half. 8
Vermaelen – Stepped up well today. 8
Song – When he and we got into our game, Song was colossal today. If only he could do this in more games. 9
Arteta – For me personally, his best game so far, highlighted by his exquisite cross for Sagna’s goal. 9
Rosicky – The performance we all knew he was capable of, but have waited an age to witness. 9
Walcott – A complete enigma. Confounded his critics (yes I’m amongst them), with a scintillating second half showing
Benayoun – Fantastic link and tireless work-rate from our much under-used Israeli. 8
van Persie – Our very own super-hero just keeps delivering the magic.
Thank you Arsene, thank you Arsenal.
    COYRRG !!!!!

  329. TotalArsenal says:

High scores there Herb! Do you think Yossi will play more now that AA has gone out on loan?

  330. Herb'sArmy says:

    Apologies, Walcott gets a 9.

  331. oz gunner says:

cheers TA, i don’t blame you for still being up, i couldn’t sleep until 2. For those who attended i wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t fall asleep for 3/4 days

  332. Herb'sArmy says:

    Hi TA,
praise where it’s due, we stormed Tottenham today. A lot of players stepped up today, and I am happy to be proved wrong if this becomes a springboard.
When he was at Liverpool, I thought Benayoun was a decent player, but I never understood why Chelsea bought him. Based on todays game he definitely deserves his chance.

  333. TotalArsenal says:

Hi Oz, during the weekend I only have late evenings to chill out and read the blogs etc. You are right though – as soon as I lay in bed i will be seeing that RvP goal again, or the two coolly taken goals by Theo, the daft flick by Tomas R, or the clever header by Sagna. 🙂

Hi Herb, Yossi had a great game against the Norwich Reserves and it made us realise what he can do for the team. Luckily Wenger gave him a proper chance today and he rewarded him back.

Night Herb, and have a great day OZ 🙂 🙂

  334. oz gunner says:

    @ Herb

agreed, i always thought he was nothing but an impact sub. Someone who came on and scored goals at the death. Yesterday definitely changed that for me.

  335. Herb'sArmy says:

    And van Persie 9.

  336. Herb'sArmy says:

    Goodnight TA.
Cheers Oz, hope things are good for you down under. Good luck with Uni etc.
    Goodnight fellow Gooners.
How wonderful it feels to have totally demolished Tottenham.

  337. oz gunner says:

nite Herb, hope things are good with you also

  338. RockyLives says:

    Evening Herb
    What a great day, eh?
Hopefully it has convinced the players themselves what they can achieve if they work hard enough for it.

    Look at Pat Rice….love it

    Arsenal bench celebrate

  342. Gooner In Exile says:

And you can see Frimpong between Park and Gerv….look at the face of emotion, the face of a fan.

  343. Gooner In Exile says:

Bloody ell someone in the media is prepared to slate Bale for the dive, no one wanted to on MotD last night.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2106872/Gareth-Bale-punished-diving–Graham-Poll.html?ITO=1490

  344. Gooner In Exile says:

Apparently the club are going to take action against the “one” fan abusing Redknapp.

When did Tottenham ever take action against twenty odd thousand fans singing vile abuse at Arsene?

To be fair to ‘Arry he has played it down in post match quotes.

  345. Gooner In Exile says:

    Where is everyone?

    We WON 5-2….it wasn’t a dream….I’m still buzzing!

  346. evonne says:

    Morning all
Silly Peaches was texting me since 6am ‘What’s the score ??’

Well, this match will go to history, will be talked about for generations

  347. pat says:

Im watching the replay – brilliant game RVPs goal was absolute brilliance

  348. evonne says:

There are people that I know that stopped watching games saying ‘to watch them lose again?’. If I see any of them enjoying yesterday’s victory I will scratch their eyes out! They didn’t deserve YESTERDAY. Only those who were loyal to the Club through the tough times are allowed to enjoy the Victory

Chas – ‘Adebayor, what’s the score’ 🙂 oh, poor poor AdeBarnDoor

  349. Double98 says:

Poor old spurs.. who let the air out of their tyres? (and from Harry Redknapps Face?)

  350. evonne says:

Double – couldn’t tell anything from Arry’s face it was twitching so much 🙂
BUT the fans at the Ems – OMG, they looked shell shocked!! If I didn’t hate them so much, I would feel sorry for them 🙂

Guys, did I miss any twits from Cesc? Didn’t he congratulate us yesterday?

  351. Red Arse says:

Still buzzing — morning guys. 🙂

Loved all the late night comments (after 11 for me — what a wuz 🙂 ) and that little Jack in the Box, Glic, had me in fits!! 🙂

  352. oz gunner says:

    Morning AA’ers

chas that video is priceless, i absolutely HATE adebayor. Seeing him run around with that smug grin makes my blood boil. Seeing that video though gave me a smile from ear to ear!

Now i’ve got to somehow convince the mrs to watch the game. I used up my 1 game a year viewing against Blackburn in Bali. I’m going to have to use the ‘but don’t you love me any more’ card.

    GLIC you are hilarious

    poor poor arry

  353. Red Arse says:

Re-playing the game in my head I could not separate any single MOTM from the others.

    — Thos Rosicky – that was the pre-injury Ros – brilliant.
    — Song — Wow, we have not seen such a great performance since before Xmas. Skill, muscle and he DID care!!
    — Benny — quiet at first but then he blossomed!
    — Theo, Gibbs, even Jenks looked great and played with pride. With the Ox and Wilshire they will give England great service in the future.
    — RVP, TV, Cham, Arteta and Sagna — well what can you say? Amazing!
    — Then there is Chezzer — after the Spuds lucky goal, had nothing to do really!

    — Arsene and his coaching staff proved themselves masters — not that they needed to as far as many of us are concerned.

    Lovely, lovely feeling!!!! 🙂

  354. kelsey says:

Have finally watched the game highlights and only this Arsenal can do things like that to us. not a day for negatives .I particularly liked Sagna’s well placed bullet header and of course RVP’s superb goal.was it 3 players he sold before curling it into the net. Pleased for Rosicky, what energy he showed and hopefully Theo’s two goals will lift him, he didn’t need the groans from some fans in the first half. Although I still think he may go in the Summer a clue to me is the bond he and RVP have as when either scores from an assist from the other, they embrace each other like lovers, which may prove they both will stay..
Everyone really played well, and let’s keep the momentum going.

Questinon. If Szscney fouled Bale why wasn’t he yellow or red carded, yet having watched it several times it was a blatant dive.

  355. Gooner In Exile says:

  356. We need some player ratings for the post …….. I could lift Herbs from last night unless someone wants to write their own set. GiE? TA? OZ?

  357. Gooner In Exile says:

Peaches could you do a poll for MotM and or even for each player, scores between five to ten 🙂

  358. oz gunner says:

i wouldn’t want to ruin 26’s report. Good idea by GiE, herbs were good also

  359. oz gunner says:

    haha classic video chas

  360. Rob Lucci says:

    Szcesny!!

    Szczesny celebrates

  361. oz gunner says:

    @ GiE

does szcz give up a lot of pushing power by shifting weight onto another leg before he dives for penalties? I know it’s an attempt to put the player of but it just seems that by him doing that he can’t spring off the ground as good resulting in a shorter dive. Surely by not doing that he could have reached adebayors penalty?

sorry to bother you just wanted to grab your our expert opinion on the issue

  362. LB says:

    Happy, happy, happy

Still don’t think Song played any different than he usually does on any given weekend. The difference yesterday was what was happening just ahead, in between him and Van Persie.

  363. oz gunner says:

    *your expert opinion

  364. LB says:

    GIE

I love tha picture of the bench erupting, from the direction they are looking they must be celebrating RvP’s goal.

  365. oz gunner says:

the caption will tell you that LB

  366. Trouble is, if we do a poll it’ll be huge because it would have so many players in it ……… I’ll use Herb’s

  367. kelsey says:

Song gets a lot of grief by some Arsenal fans yet he does the more difficult things often better than a straight forward pass. he has at least 3 times this season flighted an exquisite chip or lob forward for us to score.

  368. MickyDidIt89 says:

    LB 8:53
    Spot on
Could we have played like that with Ramsey instead of Rosicky?

  369. LB says:

Song always makes, on average, three silly passes per game — he did so yesterday, to me this just adds weight to my view — he didn’t play any different yesterday than he usually does.

  370. slimgingergooner says:

    Peaches,

If you can’t give everyone an 11 for that comeback and performance then when can you!!!?

I see it’s only been the regulars on here since we won…..funny that!!!

Think I might miss my bus and skip the 17 miles into work today!!!!

I think its a shame to separate the players by ratings for that game.
Give them all a 9. Fantastic team effort in which they all played a part. Herb’s comments on the players are good.

Oz it’s an interesting one. I used to make my mind up early based on players run up, where he looked when he put the ball down and where he looked when approaching the ball.

If as they placed it they looked at one side I would assume they were going that way. When they ran up if they looked in the other corner it confirmed it more when coupled with body movement and shape.

    Slim,
I’ve always thought that skipping was a very underated mode of transport. Why its reserved for eight year olds, I’ve no idea. Try it. It just makes you feel happy.

  374. MickyDidIt89 says:

I’ve only seen the MOTD highlights. Can someone tell me how Benny played, and where exactly. How wide etc?

  375. Red Arse says:

I am not sure anyone has mentioned it, so it may just be me, but when that first Spuds’ deflected goal went in I just looked on in disbelieve.

When their 2nd went in from the penalty, after that cheating dive by Bale, my mind went blank, only thinking “it’s just going to be one of those days” and my stomach churned at the injustice.

Looks like I was on my own then. 🙂

  376. Rasp says:

Morning Micky, Benny played everywhere 😛

  377. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Rasp,
Its a reply, so thank you!!
So, totally shapeless is the way forward then eh? 🙂

  378. Micky – before I refreshed the page I was going to tell you that as Yossi appeared to be everywhere we obviously had reverted to my preferred formation of 4-1-5 – when in doubt play without fear 🙂

  379. Rasp says:

Haha Micky, I have a response to that, but I’m saving it for today’s post. There is a lot to be learned from yesterday’s game.

  380. New Post …………..
