Overconfident Mancs? MU preview

“We won the League ….. In Manchester”

We won the League at Old Trafford etc……. “

Seems like a long time ago since Mr Wiltord ensured another title for the men in the white hats. It would be reasonable to say that whilst United have consolidated and strengthened, we have taken a step back. The reasons have been discussed ad nauseum across the AFC blogworld, we all have our theories and pre-match is not the time to further the discussion.

Rarely have I known Gooners go into a PL game with so little expectation, actually that’s not true – there is an expectation – we are goimg to get hammered. Why? …. oh, there are so many reasons for the lack of optimism:  Recent history at OT, injuries, suspensions, exhaustion,  inexperience, players out of their natural positions etc etc etc. BUT …..

It is still a game of 11 versus 11, and whilst we may not have our first choice team available we still have a very good side. MU may be Champions (and deservedly so) but they have their own difficulties: An very youthful and untested CB pairing, a lack of a creative midfielder, a dependence upon the talents of Rooney, a dodgy keeper. etc etc

Where MU undoubtedly have an advantage is with the officials. However MU fans may like to suggest otherwise the facts point to an undoubted bias towards MU at OT. Since the beginning of 2009 – over 2 seasons, only one penalty has been awarded to the opposition at OT, whereas 8 were awarded to MU ( Arsenal stats for Emirates AFC . For 9, against 8). This is before dodgy offsides, non-goals, cards given for an MU dive, 110 minute games etc. This bias is so prevalent that it has become accepted by everyone outside of OT. Harold Webbis today’s victim, let us hope he has a good game.

This is a huge game in our calendar, one of the highlights of the season and whomever AW decides to play, they will give their all. We have match winners despite our problems and despite the shuffles , the defence looks sound. Suggestions have been made that Djourou could play in midfield …. seems a reasonable shout, better than throwing Lansbury into a massive game.

Our record at Old Trafford has been poor in recent years, no win since 2006, Furthermore, United have not lost a home PL game for 17 months! The Manc blogs are united in their optimism – most predict a home win by a least 2-0 and a comfortable victory. It is true that MU have started the season very well, the seond half against a sub-standard Spurs was an exhibition of superb attacking football to which the cave dwellers had no answer (and still have no points).

But …… our win in Italy was founded upon a determination which has rarely been seen in the squad since Sol and PV left. We are expected to lose yet we have real firepower in our front line, hard workers in our midfield and a beginning of a solid defence based around a superb goalkeeper. Should we score first, I rate our chances highly.

My team:

Either JD or Kos could play as DM. They both have shown an eye for a pass and the ability to get forward. Just read there could be a problem with Sagna, in which case, Lansbury has to play MF and Koscielny can go left …. tough times!

There have been many inventors from Manchester, my favourite being Roy Chadwick who designed the Lancaster bomber as well as the Vulcan bomber upon which Concorde was based.  Chadwick died in 1947 testing one of his own designs.

A question was posed midweek …. which game would we rather win, Udinese or MU. Almost everyone said the CL match. I disagree, I want to win both.

  1. Morning all

    Great pre-match read Raddy, thanks.

I used to expect us to win every game but a draw at OT will feel like a win in these uncertain times. It’s a shame that our squad is so thin at the moment because I reckon with either Song or Frimpong in mid-field we would give them a fright.

Looking forward to the game though, it’s a biggy and has to be taken seriously. I’m going for 1-1 🙂 I told Jake Livermore, he of the spud variety to make sure he gives Na$ri a good kicking if given the chance.

  2. MickyDidIt89 says:

A “BigRaddy” is like being wrapped in a Match Day Blanket of Optimism. Excellent and thank you.
Couple of things. Injury doubts over Verm and Sagna. If so, I am praying The Blue half of Manchester can inflict more damage on North London than the Red half, and we can at least end the day above the Scuzzers.

  3. Great post as usual. Roy got it completely wrong with young Luke chadwick. Back to the drawing board after that. The mancs tend to have a lot of ugly bastards playing for them. scholes, shrek, neville(s) Whereas we have all the good looking ones Freddie, Henry and Adams. I don’t have much hope for today. I’d like to see Wenger throw the kids like OX and Ryo on at some point. I’m still gutted about Campbell’s work permit. I read a funny comment somewhere that they are taking this game so seriously that they’ve recalled howard webb.

  4. Morning Peaches and Micky BTW. 🙂

  5. Mighty Manchester Utd says:

Do Arsenal fans actually know what there up against? You are about to be blown away by the greatest club on the planet -We are Mighty Manchester United and we will complete the quadruple this season. The world class Rooney will score twice in the opening ten minutes and that will be added to in the second half by a Vermaelen own goal and Evra. Prepare for your leaky defence to be exposed.

    Mighty Man Utd 4-0 Arsenal

  6. MickyDidIt89 says:

If your lot can only beat what we have left of a side by 4-0, then you are as pathetic as I suspect you really are. Enjoy the ride while it lasts. That other horrible lot from your city are about to buy every crown you own.

  7. Bernard says:

Is that mighty manc or mighty wanc?

  8. Rasp says:

Great pre-match Raddy, you’ve set the tone perfectly. I wonder how our less than gracious guest from manu above would view the game if they were without so many first teamers?

One thing I can’t understand about the Park Chu-Young signing, I accept that it will be a very lucrative move for the financial boys but if we’re really serious about getting Hazard, why on earth would we want to piss them off by stealing the player they are signing to replace him from under their noses when is having a medical?- unfortunately it says more about our priorities than anything I suspect.

  9. Big Raddy says:

Micky. MMU knows and fears you are right.

Weird how a team which was humiliated for 90 minutes in the CL FInal against a team that we could have beaten but for an insane referee and Nik’s lack of control, can consider themselves “the greatest club on the planet”.

Next year they will not even be the greatest club in Manchester.

  10. goonster says:

what are you even doing on an arsenal blog…..I don’t visit yours and am sure most gooners don’t….

  11. Big Raddy says:

Rasp…. it is that wonderful little word ….. If. With the signing of Ox the development of Ryo and progress of Gerv, RvP and Theo as our frontline, I cannot see how Hazard fits in.

Furthermore, knowing how polite and formal AW is, I am sure he checked with the Lille BoD before “stealing” a player. AW is a master tactician and negotiator, there is no way he would jeopardise the potential signing of such a major star as Hazard (if he wants him)

  12. Big Raddy says:

    Give MMU a break.

He is welcome on the site. He has an opinion and expressed it without resorting to abuse – unlike Bernard.

  13. Rasp says:

Raddy, I’m sure P C-Y is a decent player, but the stats don’t lie any more than they did with Chamakh. He is not a lethal striker, but will be very energetic around the box. The only reason for us to buy PCY in that way would be because we can’t get Hazard.

  14. evonne says:

Raddy – thanks, you have not dissappointed me, on the contrary.
I don’t think we will win, too many players missing, so I’ll take a draw today.

The last paragraph – you are a cheat! Either or, not both 🙂

  15. red mancs winning the quadruple? pmsl.

  16. gr8gooner says:

i rather play kocienly @dm coz of is marking ability

  17. People like him are why the mancs are hated so much. Deluded and arrogant.

  18. MickyDidIt89 says:

First, from what I gather Hazard can play central, so I can see a role. Second, he is clearly top draw now, so would be a worthy addition and lastly, I don’t agree Arsene is a master negotiator. I am not even sure that’s his job which I believe is down to Law, who I suspect is utterly useless.

  19. WiganGooner says:

    Great Pre-Match BR

I’m very excited today, I do think that the underdog tag will work for us today.

Arsenal FC have the surprise factor at the moment, our kids are coming in and impressing us every game. Frimpong, Jenks they’ve all come into the first team and showed that they belong there. Miquel during his appearance at ‘Pool stated a case for being a preference to Squillaci.

Henri Lansbury is a player who has really been through the mill, with a debilitating illness, a long recovery period and has so far struggled to make an impact on the first team.

He had an impressive loan spell at Carrow Road last season and I started seeing the old Henri, the player before his illness. He’s a water carrier with a bit of guile. He’s like Ray Parlour. Don’t be surprised if he comes in and does well. I won’t be. He has the ingredients to be an awesome player for us.

Come on you Gooners, regardless of todays result, the season is a long one and I believe we will be challenging. I’ll not threaten to eat an item of clothing or accessory, but I do believe with every fibre of my being that we will get a positive result today

  20. MickyDidIt89 says:

Good on you. I think we “have the surprise factor” is without doubt the most optimistic spin gone beautifully bonkers I have ever read. They won’t know what to expect as they will have never heard of a single one of our players! 🙂

  21. chas says:

    Nice one, BR.

A little something to get us in the right frame of mind…

  22. WiganGooner says:

I’m an optimistic kinda guy 🙂

  23. MickyDidIt89 says:

That works for me every time.
Remember how merrily we sang about what they could do with their two points. Happy days.

  24. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Different incident I know.

  25. MickyDidIt89 says:

And that my merry fellow is one of the great understatements 🙂

  26. Gooner in Exile says:

Quality pre match as ever BR. Whilst wanting to win expectation levels have been lowered by the missing player coefficient applied. I would be far more confident with Gerv, Wilshere and Song available.

Rasp you apply stats to base a decision on Park, have you applied the same basis of analysis on Cahill? Yesterday he looked incapable of being in the right position at anytime, and was being covered by the brute Robinson, he got absolutely left for dead for Liverpools corner kick and resultant goal he is simply no better than what we have.

With French radio declaring Hazard deal done it did seem strange to pee them off by taking Park but how about if NikB is going the other way to Lille in the Hazard deal and we agreed to take Park as Lille didn’t need a CF if Bendtner was going? All based on 200% speculation but so are rumours that we have agreed deal for Hazard who at 20 surprises me to be top of the must buy list from the discontented fans, I thought they wanted experience and no more youth?

  27. Big Raddy says:

GIE. It does seem odd the fuss about a 20 y.o.

It is a novelty appoaching an MU game with hope rather than expectation of points. We gifted MU the PL last season with a run of form unprecedented in the AW era. First choice 11 v MU and we are at least at their level (IMO)

  28. Rasp says:

GiE, don’t you want Cahill? Arguably you could say that we didn’t see the best of Cesc last season because he wanted away.

I don’t think you should bracket everyone together under ‘they’ as if everyone who would like to see the squad reinforced is in somehow not worthy.

I’d like Hazard. I don’t care about his age, he is a very good footballer who can unlock defences from midfield.

  29. itchyballs says:

as if MANURE needed any extra help today, the fa make sure they get there their fav son”webbo”-i can guarrantee you if the the game isn’t going their way that c**t will sort it out,one way or the other.i was actually optimistic despite our injury crisis but they(fa-mike riley)had their ace up the sleeve.mark my words he’ll shaft us somehow…

  30. MickyDidIt89 says:

I think its fair to say that Cahill has been officially tapped up!
However, he has to be a good addition whether you see him as a first choice CB or simply back up. As far as Hazard is concerned, he would not be my first choice Cesc replacement by a long shot (he can play central), but with the clock ticking I would take Fatima Whitbread as I suggested at the same point of the transfer window last summer.
By my reckoning, we have a fifth/sixth placed squad at present. Two good additions and we could comepete against anyone I think.

  31. Rasp says:

Hi Micky, in the spirit of football familiarity, how about Park Chu-Young having the handle PaCY?

  32. Jamie says:

Big Raddy – you could inspire midgets to do the high jump mate. Honestly you could.

Anything we get today is a bonus, next week is where we start for real. Players back and hopefully signings in.

I don’t think we are in the sort of nick to give the Mancs a game.

It is never eleven v eleven at old Trafford. The ref makes sure of that.

    Would predict 4-0 Mancs.

Reasons, Arshavin has been a passenger again this season, Rosicky won’t last 90 minutes, Walcott had never had a good game against Man utd. Given all that, I don’t see how RVP will get the service.

Fingers crossed that we get an early slice of luck, A Manc sent iff etc.

We could give them a game in November but not qt the moment.

  33. samuel says:

The match will be determined by strong but impartial refereeing etc.
but the records over the past seasons will show that no ref. in his
right mind will referee the game in an unbiased manner ,due to blat
ant intimdation and one-eyed local supporters of Old Trafford who have become immune over the seasons to incompetent refs.so what
price another inept performance today from another of England,s fin
    set Mr. H.Webb ?

  34. Rasp says:

Nasri starts for citeh against the spuds, its getting hard to decide who I loathe the most.

We must engender the true bunker mentality against manu but also carry on as we did against Udinese and play our game. Keep the ball on the ground and frustrate them, although when we do gain possession after soaking up some pressure, we should hit them at pace on the break. Please let this be the day we see the Arsh that knocked in 4 against pool.

  35. MickyDidIt89 says:

I have a nasty feeling this one could be determined by goals!
See where you are coming from, but a dim bird brained racist would have that “c” sounding like a “k” before you could blink.

  36. MickyDidIt89 says:

We badly need a City win. We could end up in the bottom three otherwise.

  37. Rasp says:

I know Micky, but I can’t bring myself to want Nasri to score even though that would upset the spuds even more.

On a side issue, that chest down and volley by Cesc the other day was brilliant, but did you see, now he’s safe back in Spain he’s started to regrow the dodgy mullet.

  38. Hi all

Any volunteers for the match report?

  39. harry says:

Hi all, great pre-match raddy, I’ll have a tenner you have the team wrong for a change, no criticism, just whoever can call this line up needs to tell me the lottery numbers………..

As you said GIE, if all were available, I’d be more than confident, just Gman and Song would do for me………

From what I can gather from various sources, Young Francis Coquelin will be the DM, forgot all about him as he was on loan all of last season at L’orient.

He is a tenacious battler with a great eye for a pass, very strong on the ball, but I havent seen him play for over a year……..

Hope sagna and Tv pass the fitness tests……….

If lansbury doesnt see action today, then thats his arsenal career over…….

Cannot remember who mentioned it, but as much as I would like hazard I agree its bizarre, some fans on blogs are “so we must have him” at all costs, whereas we do need experience and preferrably premier league…….

I like the rumour of bendtner for arteta………….

or the 6m bid for alex?

Park chu-young has been wrote off before he plays,. he seems an interesting choice and certainly very left field…..but i know nothing about him so i will judge when he plays……..

My line up today assuming tv and sags fit

    Sagna Vermaelen Djourou Traore

    Ramsey Rosicky

    Walcott Van Persie Arshavin

Kozzer, Jenkinson, Miquel, Ozyakup,AOC, Lansbury, Fabianski…….

  40. Gooner in Exile says:

Rasp I was simply using they as a reference to the discontented fans my point being as ever that the majority of those screaming for signings (and to clarify I mean the foot stomping it’s not fair ones) are confusing me by their demands. As I said previously this group have criticised Project Youth and our over reliance oninexperienced players are they the same fans that are calling for Hazard? It’s as if a £20m 20 year old is better than a home grown one? The keepers today will give us a better gauge of that justification.

Regarding Cahill I think he would be useful cover but again I have a problem with the deified status he has achieved amongst Arsenal fans and that Wenger should for some reason offer whatever it takes, he is not Vidic or Pique who would take first team berth immediately he is as Micky says probably a back up to Verm and Kos. I am not sure any of the touted EPL centre backs has ever shown me enough to justify purchasing. If I was choosing from PL it would be Hangelaand, or Collins from Villa. We have young CBs if we need EPL CBs it should be those at the latter stages of their career (27-30) with experience to help young talented defenders and midfielders around them if needed.

  41. harry says:

Oh well just noticed from comments that Webb is the ref, why people rate him is beyond me, think is a poor ref that so anti arsenal………

  42. Big Raddy says:

I would like to see a Nasri brace today allied to a Dzeko hatrick and a few more goals spread throughout the MC team

  43. Rasp says:

    Thanks GiE,

I’m fairly certain that if we do sign Cahill he will be starter for most important games. kozzer is an exceptional defender, but nothing can make him physically larger, so for many prem games a big strong player who is also mobile (more mobile than Djourou) and good on the ball is likely to get the nod over him.

I see both sides of the debate, but I’m taking it that you are not completely dismissing the idea that we are trying (have tried) to sign both Cahill and Hazard, and if that is true, Arsene must think they provide the ‘quality’ that he says he requires to step into the transfer market.

I do wonder quite what influence Gazidis and the unknown quantity have on transfer affairs. I’m very happy with the park signing – I wonder if the fact that Campbell’s visa application was turned down had any bearing on it?

  44. harry says:

Sounds like Sagna misses out…………thats a big loss…………

  45. Sounds like once a Gunner always a Gunner, the scummers are booing Na$ri’$ every touch 😉

  46. Red Arse says:

I am with you on Cahill. I said yesterday that I really thought he looked extremely average during the Bolton ‘Pool game.

He looked ordinary in the air and turned like a double decker London ‘Bus. Better than Djourou? Please be serious, people.

But he must be good, of course, because he is going to cost £17m, if only Bolton would charge us another £10m that would make him even better.

What a load of bollix that rationale is!

  47. Big Raddy says:

    RA. There is no rationale.

    £340k a week for an ageing Eto’o – that is a wage of £17m a year!

    £35m for Andy Carroll.

    £15+m for David Bentley.

This could be a long list …..

  48. harry says:

Oh well, Na$$ri has two assists already!!!

  49. Big Raddy says:

Whatever Dzeko cost, he is worth the money. 2 super goals.

  50. goonermichael says:

funny how the $$lag has found his form now. he’s been playing for them since Jauary. wanker.

  51. Gooner in Exile says:

Rasp as always I’ll respect Wengers decision very few have been wrong in the past. As i say it’s just the reasoning from some parts of the fanbase that annoys me.

RA agrees with me or in fact I agree with RAs observations from yesterday

I decided to watch F1 rather than Shitty v Spuds. Spuds looking good? 😉

Harry your midfield with Coquelun looks light, is Gilles Sunu not a bit meatier if available? Or even Chuks Aneke.

  52. Durrr – took me a while to work out who you were talking to GiE, I thought why is Coquelin playing for spuds 😳

Need a volunteer for a match report, I know you all want to see how the game goes before you say you’ll do it but sometimes you just have to put your hand up 🙂

  53. harry says:

GIE, nor necessarily what I would go with mate, its what I think….

I would love Chuks to be given a go, Gilles Sunu is out and out striker as far as I am aware…..

    Dont think Chuks has travelled…….

I rate Coquelin and so do quite a few coaches at Arsenal, was highly rated by many……….

  54. Rasp says:

    Red Arse,

I think Cahill is at this time a better defender than Djourou.

  55. oz gunner says:

    @ GM

agreed, bloody na$ri i hate him as much as ade

    @ Harry

good call on coquelin, i completely forgot he didn’t go back out on loan with lorient. A few seasons back i thought he would be our up and coming DM (due to his great games at reserve level), but with frimpong coming through this may be his only chance). I rate him highly as did lorient (real find from arsene considering he plucked him out of the division 2 french league).

As for lansbury i really hope he makes it at arsenal.

No sagna is going to be hard especially with there tricky wingers

  56. Rasp says:

Hi Harry, I was singing Coquelin’s praises two seasons ago before he went out on loan, but I fear he will go the same way as Barazite. It’s likely that Frimpong may be the main reason. Coquelin can also play right back but now we’ve got Jenks so I reckon his days are numbered.

  57. Big Raddy says:

well I called the Dzeko hatrick, and now Aguerro has scored!

GIE YOu are missing a treat. MC look a very tasty team, but then they are playing relegation fodder

  58. oz gunner says:

Another assist for nasri, great finish by aguero. They are a scary looking team. It sickens me seeing viera sitting in the stands for them

  59. oz gunner says:

Good pick BR. Dzeko copped alot last season while he was settling in but with nasri, aguero and silva setting him up he will have a very good year. To think kompany could of been ours aswel

  60. Rasp says:

    No Vermaelen, no Sagna 😦

  61. harry says:

    No tv no way…..shit………

    Oz Gunner, Vieira who?

  62. oz gunner says:

WHAT! no TV aswel jesus christ the gaffer tape has come undone!

  63. Rasp says:

For the back line, perm any four out of kozzer, JD, Jenks, Traore and Miguel I suppose?

  64. MickyDidIt89 says:

And so Spurs slither gracefully back down the table to…..bottom 🙂

  65. Rasp says:

I’d say that was more of a slamdunk than a slither Micky although I appreciate the reptilian overtones 🙂

  66. TotalArsenal says:

BR thanks for a great pre-match report. I am totally geared up now. COYRRG!

Harry, great call re Coquelin: you are obviously somebody with important connections….and very clever too 😛

  67. Rasp says:

Szczesny, Jenkinson, Djourou, Koscielny, Traore, Ramsey, Coquelin, Rosicky, Walcott, van Persie, Arshavin. Subs: Fabianski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chamakh, Lansbury, Miquel, Ozyakup, Sunu.

  68. MickyDidIt89 says:

Can I please be the first to say “No” to the report.
Right, last man standing and the whip’s coming out.
I shall never resort to “taking positives” or “blaming the ref” and I fear I would be heading down that slippery slope.

  69. TotalArsenal says:

Looking at both sides, we have a great chance to win at OT. I am going for 2-0 to us.

  70. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Come on you Gunners.
I believe in your spirit. Seize the moment.

  71. Rasp says:

    Come on the Coq!

Don’t look at the citeh and manu benches 😦

  72. Red Arse says:

We really need to get a grip on the number of injuries.

It looks like we have more injuries than the rest of the PL put together. 😦

  73. TotalArsenal says:

Rasp, indeed! Look at what we got on the pitch: these 11 can do it today!

  74. oz gunner says:

Come on gunners 1-2 victory. As WG said come on the element of surprise (heck they did it against us in the FA cup last year fielding a mixed bag and winning). There defence is their weakness atm whereas our attack is our best, so with that said i can still see victory on the cards.

  75. Gooner in Exile says:

How many teams could lose 6 starters and look anything but weak? City possibly?

I’m going to regret this. Report on offer from me.

  76. Rasp says:

Our problem will come when the players are tiring on 70 minutes, we really have no-one on the bench to lift the team.

  77. MickyDidIt89 says:

Star Man. It could be one of the great ever reports to pen.

  78. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Come on Rasp,
How much would you like to see Oxo come on to grab the winner?

  79. Gooner in Exile says:

Are we as weak as everyone says? Utd line up has one or two weaknesses too. Merse written us off….keep it positive 🙂

  80. Rasp says:

I’d love it micky, but …. manu bench = Ferdinand, Berbatov, Giggs, Park, Hernandez, Fabio Da Silva.

I want us to win, Ihope beyond hope we win, but get real, they are much stronger than us in terms of the squad available today.

  81. MickyDidIt89 says:

I think we can nick a winner 🙂

  82. harry says:

    I always believe, we have a chance………but odds against us…..come on boys……..

  83. Big Raddy says:

come you you rip roaring Gunners

  84. oz gunner says:

that was pathetic. Djourou or kozzer should of handled that

  85. Big Raddy says:

Terrible goal to give away. We had 3 players back and where was Chesney?

Time for a Leader to get a grip because we were doing alright up to the goal.

Bloody Hell ….. a Penalty to us. And a clear Pen.

    Come on RvP.

    Bollocks…. terrible pen ….

  86. Big Raddy says:

And we should have signed Ashley Young 2 seasons ago.

  87. Rasp says:

My fear is that the heart will be ripped out of our new young players, they shouldn’t be exposed to such pressure.

  88. oz gunner says:

Very unlike RVP there, half hearted spot kick.

Ive said it for years keepers always play out of their skin against us (carson, friedel, given, green) looks like de gea is doing it today

  89. harry says:

@Rasp, agreed at 4,32pm, but what choice, the penalty was poor and has really dented any chance we had…………as small as it was…
    Only positive…..Coquelin……….

  90. Big Raddy says:

As an attacking unit, we are doing well – but defensively I worry evrytime MU come forward.

  91. harry says:

welbeck off and hernandez comes on…….oh well………..

  92. oz gunner says:

    agreed harry

  93. Wonderman says:

the first goal Absolutely awful goal to give away and poor Jenkinson looks out of his depth, but still trying. Good to see Theo barking orders

  94. Big Raddy says:

These United players love a dive. Ashley Young’s performance so far should be Oscar nominated.

Oh dear – we could take a hiding here. The defence is totally open and has little cover from MF. Rosicky has to get closer to the defence and help Coquelin. We cannot play such an open game it is madness.

  95. oz gunner says:

exactly a young dive when jenkinson was going to header!unsure why you wouldn’t have someone on the line for that free kick. Wow this is a whole lot worse than i thought it’d be

  96. Rasp says:

Please don’t get a red Arsh.

    We must play for pride……..

  97. goonermichael says:

    This is so embarrassing

  98. MickyDidIt89 says:

Can we all get flu at half time?

  99. oz gunner says:

agreed rasp, arshavin is one foul away from leaving early.

    @ Micky

well said, how bout a bomb threat?

  100. goonermichael says:

This is about what I expected. we are making them look so good

  101. Big Raddy says:

AW must have a talk with Jenkinson at half time, he does not need to be ahead of Theo.

And Theo scores through de Gea’s legs!

  102. Wonderman says:

great goal Theo deserves it, the only one who seems up for the fight

  103. oz gunner says:

Walcotts finishing inside the box has improved 10-fold. Good pass by rosicky. Oh how the game could of been different if RVP put away the penalty like he usually does

  104. oz gunner says:

definently walcott and coquelin the only ones that came ready to fight

  105. Big Raddy says:

oz. CAnnot agree. AA is getting stuck in and we are creating lots of chances. Had de Gea not saved the pen and then the shot s from AA and RvP, we would be level.

The missed Pen was the turning point

  106. goonermichael says:

My sky has gone off. Did we score?

  107. harry says:

3-1 down, in disarray and alan smith can shut his mouth, does my head in, mug……..

If only RVP had his boots on and scored that penalty……arrgh…

    Well two positives for me……….

Coquelin (really adds to squad must stay in there) and Walcott…….

Szczesny has little chance so wont knock him……..

Arshavin is a lucky boy, first was harsh yellow, but 2nd foul was a definite yellow……..

Jenkinson needs to just defend, deep water and no arm bands….

Djourou is not good enough and yes Cahill is better than him……

    lets play for pride………

  108. Big Raddy says:

Positive: We cannot go bottom 3 & Spurs are still below us.

  109. oz gunner says:

BR in all fairness i did say if the penalty was scored it would be a different game. Having just seen the first goal again im bewildered how djourou got so easily bumped off it and how half hearted kozza went in

  110. Red Arse says:

I know everyone is going to feel down but ………………

The first goal was stupid but not a reflection of great Man U skill.
The pen flop was very unlike Robin, should have been 1:1

Utd’s 2nd goal, which was a beautiful shot by Young to be fair, traore headed a clearance ball straight back to ManU.. silly

The Rooney goal was a great free kick, but should have been ruled out for gamesmanship.

    Theo took his goal well.

But 3:1 could have been 2:2, or 3:2.

The tactics are mystifying tho. We don’t have Nasri or Cesc and to play like we thought we can outscore Utd is frankly perverse.

We should have sent out a 4:5:1. Come on Arsene!!!!

  111. harry says:

just seen a clip where walcott was telling jenkinson something, and jenkinson tells him to f—-off, not good from a youngster, not impressed, take advice and improve or have an attitude and fail…..

  112. oz gunner says:

    @ Harry

i do not know what happened to djourou after his shoulder injury, he is a third the player he was at the start of the year.

Coquelin has that jack attribute where he slides, traps the ball and gets up running. For a position so many people called for reinforcements we look pretty healthy at DM atm

  113. VCC says:

Djourou…exposed once again. What amateur defending, again and again and again. He has got to go.

  114. Red Arse says:

    Oh come off it Harry.

Jenkinson was upfield supporting Walcott, and for Walcott to then start shouting his mouth off was totally unnecessary.

Jenkinson has played 3 senior competitive matches, and that’s his first trip to OT as part of a weak team. He plays with guts and great determination. Cut the lad a bit of slack.

  115. oz gunner says:

    @ RA

we haven’t seen a plan B (besides throw on bendy and chamma when we need the win late) for a long time. Last time i can recall was against AC Milan and flamini pocketed Kaka. I think its naive to think that every game we don’t need to worry about the opposition.

Heres hoping for a come back

  116. Wonderman says:

The reaction time of our defence is embarassing

  117. harry says:

Red arse, think you missed my point………

  118. Gooner in Exile says:

No one saw my offer to write a match report right?

  119. Big Raddy says:

I detest Evra. Had to hurt Theo because he is scared of his pace

  120. harry says:

    @ oz G……..

Agreed Johan is having a mare of a year……..but have been saying that since feb………….

yeah bizarre how strong we are at DM really when you look at it, its creation we need and a strong back line………

Kozzer looks a better player alongside vermaelen…..

  121. oz gunner says:

    @ GiE

you mean that comment at 3.53? that offer? haha

  122. harry says:

yeah i did GIE and looking forward to your always insightful views and tactical analysis….

  123. harry says:

argggggh…rvp should have took another touch………

  124. harry says:

    Another positive……..

The away boys are doing us proud………

  125. Big Raddy says:

De Gea again! As Oz said, why do GK’s play their best games against us

  126. harry says:

    arshaviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin, how…………..should ……..have …………better play 2nd half…….

  127. Wonderman says:

the irony is we have had enough chances to be at least level !!! and what a debut fron coquelin

  128. oz gunner says:

I tell you what if we took our chances this could be level peggings. AA and RVP could have done better

  129. Big Raddy says:

we may well run out of steam but our boys have been on top this half.

  130. oz gunner says:

    @ BR

its a curse, keeprs make their careers against us. Even worse when i’ve been calling him overrated and sh*t all TW

  131. harry says:

Cannot believe that he took off Coquelin………My MotM to now….

  132. oz gunner says:

    Another dive, bloody rooney

  133. harry says:

Lol Oz, I was calling Dzeko over rated prior to them thumping spurs….

  134. oz gunner says:

  135. harry says:

rooney rubs it in, them chances from rvp and ashavin even more felt now………

  136. harry says:

some positives now fully outweighed by this embarassing scoreline…

  137. oz gunner says:

Maybe we can spend part of the TW money on keown for defensive tactics, because we are shocking down back. Even without Verm, gibbs and sagna this shouldn’t happen. Wow just wow!

  138. goonermichael says:

If they can’t see that we need players now they all need shooting. This is exactly what we had coming. What a f.cking joke

  139. Big Raddy says:

This is a dreadful defensive performance. Not unexpected given the lack of 3 of our 5 starters but even so…..

And I cannot understand why we are playing such an open attacking game. It should have been Lansbury for AA, not Ox for Coquelin.

    Could be a cricket score

  140. oz gunner says:

    @ GM

i can see it now “we have players out, no need to panic buy”

  141. Red Arse says:

    Well done Jenks!!!!!

Full back and winger ………. with guts!!!

  142. Big Raddy says:

    FFS Djourou.

None of these goals can be blamed on Szcznesy, just piss poor defending. Thank god we have a weeks break.

  143. harry says:

    10 men……………

  144. Wonderman says:

so how about we put someone on the line ?

  145. chas says:

    7-6, we’re gonna win 7-6.

  146. oz gunner says:

    @ Wonderman

of course not, why would we do that?! especially after he fizzed in 2 already that even AA could have blocked

  147. chas says:

    Alright 8-7

  148. Rasp says:

    OK guys,

We will bounce back from this. Basically we have 3 days to sign 2 players to give us a chance of finishing in the top 4, if we sign 3 players, who knows we might compete for the prem. Mathematically we are not in huge trouble, we have to get 3 points next week.

  149. oz gunner says:

I wonder what arsene was saying to lansbury? he didn’t look happy at him

  150. chas says:

the only positive I can see in this is that I’ve got Young and Rooney in my fantasy team…..effin traitor that I am.

  151. goonermichael says:

when was the last time we conceded 7?

  152. goonermichael says:

The calls for Wenger out will be deafening

  153. MickyDidIt89 says:

They will have to be mighty good the two players to get us to the top four 😦

  154. barumgooner says:

why is AA even still on the pitch. Its like playing with 10 before we gat our obligatory sending off !

  155. Rasp says:

This is officially the worst defeat under AW and we have set a record in receiving more red cards than we’ve scored goals 😳

  156. Rasp says:

Micky, I’m hoping that Song, Wilshere, TV and Gervinho will be on the pitch too!

  157. barumgooner says:

I’m not an Arsene hater but after this he can blame no-one but himself. Manutd bought early so did liverpool, we have bought a couple of kids and and poodle-eater….fan-f%*”*ingtastic

  158. oz gunner says:

Can’t remember ever seeing 30 shots on target in a match.

  159. chas says:

What about Gerv the swerve, Barum?

  160. Wonderman says:

Oz its that kind of mentality …lack of game guile is what kills us, we can buy fifteen 7foot centre backs nothing will change

  161. oz gunner says:

    @ barum

but hes been busy dealing with nasri and cesc (two who wanted out all along)…

  162. barumgooner says:

Fairplay Chas, forgot about Gerv. Not enough though is it ?

  163. MickyDidIt89 says:

I am disapearing at the final whistle, and its not because I’m sulking. Honest.
    My only suggestion is…..

  164. goonermichael says:

  165. chas says:

A picture of a white flag?

  166. oz gunner says:

Exactly wonderman, a total lack of tactics mainly defensively. If keown did it in 2006 and got us to the CL final bring him F*cking in full time. If he can make a back 4 of senderos and flamini look good he can do it with anyone

  167. Wonderman says:

This result is all down to Wenger and how the team was set up to begin with

  168. barumgooner says:

This will be a very interesting few days and Cahills price will now go up considerably.

Exactly Oz, his two adopted sons who have shafted him and Arsenal. Time for him to wake up

  169. goonermichael says:

We’ve become a team like tottenham. Talking about how we may finish in the top 4. Something has got to change.

  170. chas says:

I doubt A Hilly Crag’ll want to come after that.
    Enough from me. G’night.

  171. harry says:

wheres my quilt……..radio silence till tw shuts………..

  172. Wonderman says:

Oz its a team thing….a basic of defending…if the opposing midfield have time and space…drop and leave the space infront of you for the midfield to cover, worse case scenario the midfield dont cover, so you converge compactly just infront of the 18 yard box and show them down the sides….our INTERNATIONALS dont seem to have grasped a concept you would teach 11 year olds

  173. Danny says:

Well at least they didn’t get ten…..

  174. Rasp says:

We should have bought Cahill weeks ago. Who knows what the result may have been if he/or another decent DM was playing. As a human being Djourou has my respect, but that was a woeful performance by him.

Jenks is great, I feel sorry for the lad. We should have replaced Clichy simply because we know that Gibbs is injury prone.

  175. Big Raddy says:

I am in shock. It was beyond embarassing. Why were we playing such an expansive game when our defence was completely over-run?

    Just a total embarassment.

Fairplay to MU, they were excellent and their shooting lethal. Four goals were unstoppable.

  176. Rasp says:

We tired after 70 mins and then going down to 10 men was the final straw. I don’t blame Jenks for the sending off because JD was ball watching and should have had the man covered.

  177. barumgooner says:

Merse is dead right. Absolutely no tactical awareness whatsoever. If you know you are weakened then surely you can change the way you play and frustrate the opposition. As I said earlier I am no hater of AW but think that the whole betrayal thing has destroyed the man and thats why Ferguson is now defending him, he can see we have lost it and are no longer a threat.

  178. Rasp says:

Raddy, we still have only one way to play. I seriously question what we get up to in training. We’ve known all week we would have to field a weakened side, why hadn’t we been working on keeping it tight at the back?

  179. oz gunner says:

    @ Wonderman

i think we could bring in Vidic, Subotic and Kompany and it wouldn’t change though. Without tactics in place we get run around like headless chooks. Manure always murder us when we play a high line, so why do it with a defence who has never played together? not enough cohesion to set an offside trap. We just can’t rock up against a near full strength manure play the same and think its all going to be fine and dandy. You play a 4-5-1 defend for your life (like at barca) and hope to score on the counter.

  180. Rasp says:

Whatever AW says at his post match press conference he is going to get slaughtered.

  181. gunnern5 says:

I know it will be censored but I have to use a four letter word.

  182. Big Raddy says:

    JD had a nightmare game.

Webb managed to gift them a penalty – trust Evra to dive.

As someone said – the season starts with Swansea.

  183. Red Arse says:

Young looked an OK player last year.
This season he has had such a boost to his confidence by joining Utd that he looked worldclass.

The opposite is true of our boys! 🙂

  184. gunnern5 says:

How were you on your first week on the job?

Most of our kids were playing at Old Trafford for the 1st time in their lives.

For goodness sakes give em a break!

  185. oz gunner says:

Its taken us 3/4 seasons of defensive failings and all we have changed is a defensive zone on set pieces (seems to work well actually). But weres the signings?wheres the tactics?wheres the pride?

Nasri and cesc are probably sitting at home having a good old chuckle after that

  186. barumgooner says:

JD was dire and AA should have been offloaded weeks ago, just because a player wants to stay doesn’t mean he should stay. I feel for players like all the Arsenal players today, they were let down yet again by the (lack-of) amnagement.

  187. goonermichael says:

    We’ve turned a corner I think.

  188. Rasp says:

No GN5 give me a break. Stop assuming you know what I am thinking – go back and read my comments. I have said that I feel sorry for our young players and that I hope this doesn’t destroy their confidence.

I am not looking to scapegoat our players and you should not be looking to attack me when we’ve all suffered a very painful defeat. I’m an Arsenal supporter – remember that

  189. barumgooner says:

N5. i for one am not blaming the young players in the slightest. As I said they have been let down badly today. Yet again poor team selection, poor formation and zero tactics.

  190. Big Raddy says:

AW dererves all that is thrown at him. In a single stroke he has destroyed the confidence of a number of young players.

CJ should not have been on the pitch – though he gave his all. Coquelin gave a good performance. The Ox was non-existent, Traore did well to keep Nani quiet until he tired.

Positives: The away support was brilliant.

  191. Red Arse says:

If I was Arsene’s best friend, and I certainly bear him no ill will, I would take him aside and say “Arsene, you need to stop, think and seek the advice of trusted friends, as to what you should do next”.

  192. goonermichael says:

I’d seriously consider telling him to give up.

  193. oz gunner says:

    @ BR 6.10

very well said. i hope it hasn’t because look what happened to Fabianski when his confidence was shot, he nearly got sucked into the abyss. Arsene and his staff have only himself to blame

  194. Big Raddy says:

Some stats which would indicate the scoreline could not be correct!

    Shots. MU 15. AFC 13

Shots on target: MU 10 AFC 6

    Corners: MU 3 AFC 5.

Pretty even game from those stats!

  195. oz gunner says:

nite all. 3 and a bit hours til work…awesome. looking forward to your report GiE

  196. gunnern5 says:

    Rasp says:

Raddy, we still have only one way to play. I seriously question what we get up to in training. We’ve known all week we would have to field a weakened side, why hadn’t we been working on keeping it tight at the back?

So this is supportive of the team, when you are running down our management and ASSUMING they did not stress the importance of defense? Of course they must have, but why can you not take into consideration the enormity of the situatrion for them?

By the way you attacked me – which is not unusual.

All i did was to suggest you give the kids a break.

Is that wht you consider to be an ATTACK?

My goodness when did these kids last face Man U at Old Trafford?

  197. Red Arse says:

Regardless of us all trying to second guess AW and rate this player or that player to bring in a couple of new players, we need to remember that the injuries to players and the loss of Nasri and Cesc are beyond his control.

What is within his control is the quality of the players he brings in.

An unknown (by us) korean player, and a CH like Cahill are not the right quality.

He needs to get Subotic or Kjaer at CB and Benzema at CF.
They will cost a bomb, but he needs to tell Kroenke he needs them, and let him worry about the money side of things!

That’s what Ferguson would tell the Glazers.

My heart is bleeding for AW — seriously. He does not deserve this!

  198. evonne says:

Positives – he knows what we are up against. He knows he HAS to buy, already thin squad has been drained this summer

But oh no, he has just said in post match interview that signing new players in not the answer

  199. barumgooner says:

At this point in time I would agree GM. Just heard him talking. Interviewer said ” how do you turn this around” answer ” whats to turn round ? We have played 2 away and 1 at home and lost at home ? “

  200. evonne says:

RA – my heart bleeds full stop. I am not sure it is for Wenger. What if we are wrong and it was his decision not to buy last summer, this summer, January? What if he has lost the plot?

  201. gunnern5 says:

BR; No offense intended – but what chance did he have other than to play kids?

However when their is a rout in ice hockey the coach always pulls the goalie so he can save face.

  202. Red Arse says:

We are all choked by that.

Filled with disappointment after being stuffed, it is not the time to start bickering guys! GN5/Rasp just chill, it will be resolved by AW in due course, and when we start to win it will all be forgotten —- well sort of!

  203. Rasp says:

GN5 are you really that deluded and shallow that all you have to say after that game revolves around my comments. I also said “My fear is that the heart will be ripped out of our new young players, they shouldn’t be exposed to such pressure.”

If you are happy with the way things are going then that is your prerogative – but you are in the minority and sniping at me will not support your cause.

  204. Red Arse says:

    Speculation Evonne!

Doesn’t really help make matters feel better, and is probably wrong ……. ooops more speculation.

  205. barumgooner says:

Just one last thought. Bergkamp was a truly fantastic worldclass player but one day he looked in the mirror and realised that he no longer had what it took to live up to what was required, and could no longer give the club what it demands ?

  206. gunnern5 says:

I will only “chill” when Rasp is even handed in his site moderation, which is seldom the case. I have emailed him several examples of my concerns – which he duly ignores.

  207. goonermichael says:

    we are doomed.

  208. Red Arse says:

You need to complete the sentence.

    “We are doomed, Mr Mainwaring!

  209. London says:

    You are my sunshine
    My only sunshine
    You make me happy.
    When skies are grey
You’ll never know how much I love you
Please don’t take my Arsenal away,

  210. London says:

We all love giving Rasp a hard time but if you think about it, for obvious reasons, today is not one of those days.

Please stand back on this one.

  211. gunnern5 says:

Here you go again picking on me.

I’m distraught at the events today, to assume I am happy is beyond the pale.

I’m totally upset ( really , really pissed off) but I understand the situation we are in, and I refuse be a smart arse and attack fellow bloggers and worst of all our team and management.

Again I ask you why do you consider me asking you to give them a break to be an attack?

  212. Big Raddy says:

Still think we will get top 4!

  213. gunnern5 says:

I was cool in my comments which he decided to take personally.

    It’s not my issue – it’s his!

  214. London says:

    Hi BR

I have been out of the loop a bit, why were Sagna and Vermaelen absent?

  215. Rasp says:

GN5, why don’t you set up your own site that conforms precisely to your expectations? – I imagine it would be a pretty lonely place.

This site is not set up solely for you, it offers a platform for many who are quite happy with the way we run things. If you are not happy with the way it is run you have a simple choice.

  216. Big Raddy says:

Sir Alex: ” “The score line does surprise me [but] they had maybe eight players missing and that told as the game wore on. We scored a fantastic selection of goals. Arsene has been a big adversary for me and will continue to be so when he gets his players back.”

Seeems as if SAF is mellowing.

GN5. YOu make a good point, we had no-one left.

  217. Rasp says:

London, Sagna had a virus and TV had a thigh strain.

  218. goonermichael says:

I was thinking more about the cartoon gullivers travels (or was it journey to the centre of the earth?) We’ll never make it, We’re all gonna die etc.

  219. evonne says:

    sagna sick, verlmalean slight injury

  220. Big Raddy says:

London. Not yet, but after that 95 minutes, a bottle or two is a necessity!

Bacary was ill with a fever, TV injured.

  221. gunnern5 says:

My belief is that this rout will help to galvanize our squad.

Man U were not that good – we were that poor.

The season is only 3 games old, and the league has never been won (or lost) in August .

We have 35 games to play and a potential 105 points to win.

The past is the past – let’s look ahead to the future.

Still 3 days left in the transfer window for Aw to pull a few rabbits out of his hat.

  222. California Gooner says:

BR, top four? I think so too: if we strengthen as we should. Some of this has just been the perfect storm of a bad summer, red cards, and injury, but it could really begin a downward cycle if not reversed soon. Despite the denials from Arsenal, I remained convinced by that blog post last week about the board’s reluctance to pay big salaries. Something is wrong upstairs or with the relationship between the board and Wenger that is keeping us from signing the players we need. It will be difficult between now and Wednesday to get anyone in.

  223. London says:

There is one tiny positive that is still running through my mind and that is the away supporters singing non stop when we were 3 down, ok, they quietened down but they put up more fight than some.

  224. gunnern5 says:

    Rasp says:

No comment by me is needed.

Just another needless attack from you.

  225. Rasp says:

For god’s sake GN5 – I am picking on you? Read your own comments, I didn’t mention you at all, you came straight in with this…..

How were you on your first week on the job?

Most of our kids were playing at Old Trafford for the 1st time in their lives.

For goodness sakes give em a break!”

I am quite happy to have no interaction with you at all on AA as we clearly don’t see eye to eye, but it is you who attacks my comments and not vice versa.

  226. Irishgunner says:

Well, ……… could have been worse .. I think.

I even have Koscielny in my fantasy football 🙄

Wenger will hurt more than anyone, this will be sorted. Better start of the season than the middle.

  227. Big Raddy says:

The feelgood factor from Tuesday has evaporated. We lost at OT which is nothing new but the manner of the loss is potentially damaging.

It is up to AW to get the team buzzing again and Swansea at home should be the antidote to today

  228. Red Arse says:

I am not sure where to start .
When I saw the team sheet my thoughts that we may have a slim chance of performing well but perhaps just losing went out of the window.

We can all blame certain individuals but to me it looked like 11 ment/kids had been thrown together who didn’t even know each other.

i Have remained constant all year that none of our central defenders bar Vermaelen are god enough.
Paper thin squad, well whose fault is that.
Jenkinson was crapping himself from the first minute, quite understandably but the biggest culprit was Arshavin.
We have no midfield whatsoever and some of the goals we gave away made our defence look a like a below bar championship side.
Szsney, how will he feel ? he made on or two decent saves but he is not ready to be our number one, i have said that all season.
One can argue that one can only play with the players available, but whose fault is that we don’t have strength in numbers.
United shouldn’t get carried away a half decent performance by any team and they would have conceded 4.
de gea is crap and should have saved Walcott’s goal yet managed to save he penalty, not that it would have made a difference
    Worst defeat since 1896.
the media will start a campaign for wenger to go but I am not sure anymore if he should stay.Morale can’t be much lower than this a sheer humiliation
.Stoke, bolton anyone would have performed better than us today and it’s been on the cards a long time.
I feel embarrassed today for the team.

Being you are one of the founding members of AA I must say that I appreciate both your articles and your non-combative style.

At 74 years old my passion for the Arsenal is still as huge as it was when I was a kid – when all I could hear was the oohs and aahs from behind the walls at Highbury. I longed for the day when I could get behind those walls.

My passion has, and will, never ebb,

Today was merely another day in our history – but it will not determine our future, it’s just another day.

35 games and 105 points left to win.

  235. neamman says:

Some fantastic goals by MU ..nothing our goalie could do except perhaps the first. When it rains it pours!
I was encouraged by the away support.. could hear them singing for 80% of the match. Our squad is woefully thin of quality it looks like.. we need to get the next 2 signings asap.
Anyway..lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater… AW has made some mistakes in not buying people like Mata or Parker but I still back him 100%. We can only get better!!!!
Way back when someone said we should get 7 points from the first 4 games..we will be lucky to get 4!!
Next game we will be missing Gerv, Song, Jenkinson… plus who knows what injuries we will have after international week.

I am sure you will recognise the ancient quote,

Well sort of ancient – with a bit of Red Arse jiggling!!” 🙂

  241. Irishgunner says:

Gunnern5 – Could be, but away fans are more often than not the most vocal anyway, no matter what club you talk about. Stoke seem to be vocal at home, but other than that can’t think of many. This Anfield support of Liverpool’s is a myth, could hear a pin drop at most times.

Anyway, I think the players are just giving credit to fans who traveled however far, saw their team get demolished by bitter rivals, and still professed their love for the club. The players will be chomping at the bit to pay them back.

  242. Red Arse says:

Is that where “Bottoms Up” came from Rocky? 🙂

  243. RockyLives says:

  245. Red Arse says:

When pressed he said he had no intention of resigning.

He mentioned the mid week game and injuries to key players as not helping.

When he was asked about transfers he said that in England any loss is met with the solution/demand to go out and buy players.

    He looked shattered and defiant.

    What a complete pillock.

  252. TotalArsenal says:

That was a total humiliation this afternoon. We were in every aspect at our weakest today, and the Mancs had a field day. We were slaughtered. I blame hurricane Irene 🙂 I really thought that Koz, JD and Szczesny would cope today, but boy were we poor! Coq did well, but once again our midfield line was allover the place: we seem to have a midfield nowadays that wants to operate vertically rather than horizontally.

The thing is though, we always knew that these first few weeks would be difficult – very difficult. The most important thing was to qualify for the CL and that we did. The second most important thing is to buy the right players before the end of the TW: let’s see what will happen in the next few days. The third most important thing was to get a few results druing the first three games and in that we failed. Lets just say the season starts in 14 days and forget today’s horror show.

It will be the end of an era. I sincerely hope he will not be forced out by people who believe that change can only be for the good.

  267. Gooner in Exile says:

Ok just a little thought to console yourselves with:

Gervinho, Song, Wilshere, Sagna, Vermaelen, Gibbs – IN

Rosicky, Arshavin, Djourou, Jenkinson, Traore, Coquelin, Frimpong, Diaby – Bench/Squad

    Things look a little brighter.

Could many teams even Chelsea, ManUre cope with those losses?

Man u played without Vidic and Ferdinand, but then take out Rooney, Young, Anderson and Evra. Then take out Park and Hernandez from the bench.

Chelsea, take Torres, Terry, Lampard, Cole, Ivanovic and Drogba out, then take out Anelka and Ramires out too.

Liverpool already without Gerard, remove Downing, Enrique, Kuyt, Carragher and Suarez, then remove Carroll and Adam

  268. goonermichael says:

Mickeyk. that is so true. Why didn’t we realise that? It’s all Wengers masterplan.

  269. Big Raddy says:

Where I take offence at your comment of 8.23 is with the completely unfounded statement that AW will profit from our situation, or that he wants to. It is insulting to a man who devotes his life to the club that he and we love.

  270. goonermichael says:

Would any of them concede 8 though. Don’t mean to be a doomer 🙂 Things can only get better.

  271. gunnern5 says:

I’ve watched thousands of Arsenal games and today’s left me burning more acid than any other – and believe me it burns like f.

But I seriously feel that AW, as well as the entire club, will grow from this very painful experience.

It’s pretty obvious that our transfer policy has let us down badly.
We just don’t know if any one person is responsible or the policy of the club. Regardless it has been a disaster and has left us in a vunerable place.

Three days left io amend that sitaution and 35 games left in the season……………

  272. I don’t think we’re going to be relegated, I’m pretty sure we have enough class to climb the table but I do feel that our young players were at a disadvantage today. We’ve seen many teams go to OT and come to the Emirates that are set up to frustrate. AW always tells his teams to just go out and play their football and so on a day like today when we were perceived to have weaknesses those weaknesses were easliy exploited by a rampant manu.

We would never thrash a team 8-2 because AW wouldn’t allow it to happen. So two things happened today, we were weak and we got thrashed. It was unavoidable because manu were very strong and we didn’t defend as a team because sadly that isn’t the way we play.

What ever the reasons are for AW not having strengthened the team so far it’s really very late now. I don’t think it would be too late to add quality players – you only have to see how Na$ri slotted right into the manc team to realise that playing class alongside class is easy – but I don’t think that will happen for us 😦

  273. Mickeyk says:

Arsene has not got a clue about defence no idea what so ever .he should have got Martin keown to sort it out years ago but his ego is to big he thinks he knows everything witch he doesn’t .he’s pride has got in the way with this experiment that has seen us throphy less for six years .the biggest club in London .as the old saying goes pride comes before a fall .8-2.

  274. Gooner in Exile says:

Peaches sorry I need to take issue:

“We would never thrash a team 8-2 because AW wouldn’t allow it to happen.”

I’m sure I’ve witnessed us dish out quite a few thrashings in his tenure, Boro and Everton both 7-0 from memory.

The team that performed in Udinese was not the team that took the field today, the team that kept Liverpool to 0-0 was stronger than today’s side.

I am by no means happy with today’s result but the buoyancy of this site on Wednesday night/Thursday morning compared to today is a realisation of the result rather than a balanced view on the game and the reasons we were so short.

Four of Uniteds goals were of the “pick that out” variety. Admittedly our own lack of guile allowed them the space to shoot or free kicks. But the fact remains that on another day those could have gone past the post or in row Z.

  276. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Morning all

Arsene Wenger has stated post match that he still intends leading The Club. The worrying thing is that no one has the balls to stand up to him @ The Club.

He doesn’t give a toss about the fans. He has his own blinkered agenda & 8-2 is the state of affairs.

And if anyone can find a hint of positive to still cling to, they are deluded.

  277. London says:

  282. London says:

Why do you do that here, you know if you say those kind of things on Le Grove you will be complemented for them.

  283. London says:

May be Gnarley but today he was an Arsenal player and I thought he played with great pace and excellent control.

  284. gnarleygeorge9 says:

You’ve got to be going into a season, but 8-2 has certainly put me back on my Arse ne 😦

  285. gnarleygeorge9 says:

  286. London says:

  287. London says:

None of us are happy today Gnarley.

  288. goonermichael says:

I thought we may get hammered before I knew Sagna and TV were out. We let them play with far too much space. With our first team we’d beat them. Shitty look the better team to me. I’m with Peaches. I don’t think we’ve got the time to make the right signings. I don’t know if The board or Wenger want to sign the players we’d need anyway. I’ve gone beyond depressed. people are feeling sorry for us.

  292. Gooner in Exile says:

Got a virus apparently and woke up for the game, think he is back under his quilt with Harry.

  293. pat says:

Once again a penalty miss turns the game – If we had RVPs penalty go in it could have been different, but could have beens dont win games. Gonna be very grim if there are not reinforcements. Scoreline is largely down to Sagna and Verm missing, but Song and Frimpong meant that the largely makeshift D kept getting over-run, always seemed 1-2 steps behind.

Even if we had the 1st choice backline of Gibbs, KOz, Verm and Sagna we would have done alot better…

My personal opinion is that RVP is not right as captain – still a very good player but at this time is a bit of a distraction. For me the right leader would be Verminator but no point if he is not on the field. Why do we have such bad luck with injuries!!!

Commentator about one of the free kicks awarded to the Mancs – “I dont think the referee actually saw that but sometimes he just feels there has been an infringement” WHATEVER! But its ok for a holes like Evra to go barging into the back of someone and hurt them (Walcott) with no intent to play the ball and not get a yellow? What a joke. Immediate mute after that.

Geez those guys need a hand out there – the guys left are out of their depth…

Wenger is having a tough time at the moment – but the dark days will be even darker if he leaves

  294. goonermichael says:

I feel numb. This site makes me feel better though. See you all later. Sorry about my swearing. morgan is a wanker though.

  295. TotalArsenal says:

We only had 2 out of our 6 regular GK/defenders/DM in their positions today: Szczesny and Koz. Koz was a doubt before the game and JD has hardly played this season (and might also not have been fully fit). We had a big game on Wednesday in which the team gave everything and then a journey back from Italy. The Mancs have had two relatively easy games and were totally fresh and up for it. I know that JD and Koz can play a lot more solid than that, as they have proven time and again last season, including the big matches. But on the day the totally untested back ‘five’ formation of Koz, JD, CJ, and Traore and Coquelin were totally not up for it. Other than Barcalona away, they could not have had a more difficult task, and I think we cannot pull any conclusions from this game. Some days everything goes against you and today was such a day. If MU would have come to us with similar injuries/suspensions and fatigue issues and our team more or less fully fit, we would have given them a hiding as well (inspired by GiE last comments!).

  296. Ramgun says:

Big Raddy – Just who are you to speak for all Arsenal fans? I have lived and breathed Arsenal all of my life and I want Wenger sacked. My opinion and I am entitled to it. Speak for yourself.

  297. pat says:

I thought Couloqein (yeah cant spell it) didnt do too bad. Was surprised to see Arshavin on the pitch for so long he is just not firing.

Someone needs to tell Walcott to drop the fancy footwork and just nip it past and run – words to that effect have been said on this bolg previously but I dont know what is going on. You know things arent good when Walcott and Jenks are having an argument on the pitch…

  298. pat says:

So who is gonna do the job Ramgun? Cant just say Wenger out without offering an alternative?

  299. pat says:

London – just save those emails until the end of the season, then we will see who “takes the piss”

  300. gnarleygeorge9 says:

I know its shocking. I got an SMS from A Spud in London who says its the 1st time since 1986 that Arsenal has scored more than 1 goal @ OT.

It is apparently the 1st time The Club has leaked 8 goals since 1896 ;(

Now, people are talking about the “R” word & that Swansea will be a test. Blimey 😯 this is no way to treat the fans. And Peter Hill-Wood has more of less said the fans can eat cake 👿

  301. TotalArsenal says:

Hi Pat, agree with most of your comments. I thought that Walcott did fine today. He scored a goal and was awarded a penalty: that is pretty much on the top of his job description… 🙄

  302. gnarleygeorge9 says:

If a season was won and lost in a game yesterdays wasn’t it. It was a game where we were woefully short of players. That’s it. Do we have the required quality, with investment, yeah.

    Fingers crossed eh?

    What a blessing.

Duly arrive home just after 10 to catch the 50min re-run. Its already going, then Rooney scores and Sky lets me know that 22mins have passed. ‘We’ve done well to hold on I say’. Then winning the pen was more ‘good news’.

Then it all goes downhill….rapidly. At 6-1 I’m numb and on the phone to Wonderman, who informs me that the scoring hasn’t finished.

    What a fucking horror show.

Someone or something smiled on me today and allowed me to have a brilliant day out before coming home to see it. I’m truly thankful for that.

  314. 26may1989 says:

Hi chums, am just back from hols.

And what a welcome home that was, thanks Arsenal.

First off: however weak and bad we were (and in the last 20 minutes, it was pitiful), hats off to United. Rooney was sublime and Young was fantastic. I thought Szczesny had a pretty good game, which just underlines how threatening United were in attack. Had Nani not had his “I’m the New Ronaldo” hat on today, and been more of a team player, it could have been worse for us. Smalling and Jones absolutely look the business at the back, and Anderson was very effective. United might still be missing a creative midfielder and their new keeper may look like the new Barthez (alternating brilliance with errors), but United were fantastic today, and showed what some early transfer business can do (and that after they’d won the league). They now have 90% of their team for the next 4-5 years settled.

Reality Check, you’re on the button re Webb, he was kind to us today re Arshavin and also had the temerity to award a penalty against United at OT. Enjoy the moment, it’s an epic win for your guys. But as you’ll know from heavy defeats in your history, it’s just one game.

We will recover from this, I’m sure of it. But the question we all ask is: how was this situation allowed to come about? There’s lots of blame to go around: Wenger himself of course (although, with virtually no players, and certainly not enough to play a true 4-5-1, I don’t see he did much wrong today before bizarrely bringing off our one DM, Coquelin). But there is also the scouting team around him, they must bear some responsibility for the fact we failed to get Mata or one of Cahill, Samba and Jagielka in (see some details in Amy Lawrence’s interesting piece from Saturday: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/aug/27/arsenal-arsene-wenger-transfers). Then there’s the Board and Gazidis, though none of us really knows where lines of responsibility are really drawn. I can’t blame Na$ri, in the sense he did what he is entitled to do, but his treachery played a part in this. And then there is the indiscipline of Gervinho and especially Song in getting themselves suspended: had we had them available, today would have been very, very different. I’m especially angry at Song.

Whoever is to blame for our negligently, disastrously poor summer, the scale of this defeat (even accounting for the number of absentees and the fact we had 19 shots etc) shines a light from which none of us can hide. Have the club been negotiating in the background for the purchase of not only capable squad players like Cahill and PaCY, but at least one top, top quality player to fill the void left by Cesc and Nasri (which, if we’re honest, in itself didn’t really replace the golden era attacking trio of Henry, Bergkamp and Pires)? If negotiations were started now, I see little chance of getting a Benzema, Sneijder or Kaka, but if there has been work on such a mega transfer going on behind the scenes, maybe it can still be done. To my mind, that is what is needed, and bugger the wage structure. Trouble is, even if it is something the club are actually willing to do, either players will be frightened off joining a team that’s just been murdered by supposed rivals in this fashion (and which has drawn a tough CL group too), or they and the selling club will demand more money. And remember, there’s a bunch of players (van Persie, Vermaelen, Walcott) whose contracts go into their last year next summer. The alarm bells are ringing all over HMS Arsenal. We need to bring in quality to stem the flow of the quality we have.

Much as I love Wenger, for bringing the quality of football he’s brought us, plus many trophies and for keeping us at the top table for five years while the new ground was financed, I just don’t understand why he isn’t more forthright about the need for backing. Just as Fergie did last summer when Rooney threatened to go to City if he didn’t get a massive pay rise and more players weren’t brought in, Wenger should be screaming and shouting that he needs investment and now. He has given this club, its fans and the owners of the club so much, he now needs support.

But if I’ve got it wrong, and the Arsene Out crew have been right all along, that the root cause of our malaise is Wenger himself (which I still don’t believe), then the Board need to be planning in a serious way. We should be thinking of replacing Wenger midway through this season with a name manager (Hiddink for example), and certainly before the January transfer window, so that rebuilding can be done in good time for the following season. But I truly hope that doesn’t happen, I hope that we make some major signings before midnight on Wednesday, and then take our frustrations out on Swansea in a couple weeks’ time, so kickstarting our season after this gross embarrassment. It has just been one game, and the season is only at its earliest stages, so there is still plenty of scope for us to recover. But I’m dreading getting back to the office on Tuesday…….

  315. oz gunner says:

    @ gnarley
george im assuming a essendon supporter?

Just a completely rubbish game tbh, i wouldn’t even expect our reserves team to get belted by that much (reserves not squad players). Its bad enough seeing the lack of signings but seeing a team (minus a whole lot of players) play our usual tactics is completely naive.

Since i can remember united always sat back and defended against us and hit us on the counter, why on earth didn’t we do that today? It was scary the amount of holes that popped up in our defence. Yes we had players out but the players there are better than the likes of west brom, wolves ect yet the defensive set up allows them to compete. We are not barca we cannot afford to give the opposition no respect. Tactics can win a game, where the bloody hell are ours?!

  316. barumgooner says:

Oz, I completely agree. Merse said after the game that even with our full strength squad very few would get in the utd team. Personally I think thats wrong, we have some good players, some very good players and some not-so good as do manutd. The difference is that they have leadership and direction and we have plan Arsene and thats it. I hear what people say about in Arsene we trust and who else would we get but the club is bigger than one man and he just looks to me to have lost the plot.

  317. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    No oz, Richmond

  318. MickyDidIt89 says:

Nope, the cold light of day feels no better 😦
I understand much of the sympathy over the morale of the Young Guns, but as at Newcastle, I am very concerned about RvP. How must he be feeling in light of the week enjoyed by Cesc and Nasri?

  319. Rasp says:

    Morning all,

Accepting that we had a severely weakened side, its the tactics that were so wrong yesterday.Knowing we’d got a threadbare and inexperienced defence and then playing with such a high line was suicidal when the opposition have such pace down the flanks.

I don’t have any criticism for our players yesterday. They were sent out and only knew one way to play. Oh how we missed Alex Song.

  320. London says:

I still have those away supporters ringing in my head.

  321. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Morning Boys,
Certainly no criticism towards the players. One look at the team sheet and there was only one result, and you’re right London, I was blown away by our fans.
It is the first time I have ever felt sorry for my team.

  322. kelsey says:

It was a complete humiliation yesterday and there will be a lot of knee jerk reactions all this week.
I honestly don’t know what the best solution is for the club.

Wenger will not be sacked and even if he stepped down now any possible transfers that we may possibly make would be put on hold as any new manager would want to change the system we play so it looks like we have to grim and bare it, at least until January.
I am not sure who is to blame but the Board must take some responsibility.Difficult times ahead and morale must be at rock bottom.

i don’t agree with a lot of comments above. Who said we would be relegated ? If RVP scores the penalty it wouldn’t have made the slightest difference IMO

If ever the team needs vocal support they need it now.

We can’t suddenly find 6 players in 3 days.
I still think the board are controlling things and United had several key players missing and SAF is a cunning old fox as he knows we are not in contention anymore therefore he can suddenly say nice things about us.

  323. barumgooner says:

It could be the best thing to happen to the club in years. It has highlighted deep seated failings within. Yes we are missing players but why ? Three of them are through lack of control and discipline. We have injuries again so early in the season, we have three first choice players leaving and not being replaced, once again we have made the star player captain in the hope that he doesn’t leave aswell. We have sold our better players and kept those who aren’t good enough purely because they dont want to go.(no-one else will pay their wages). We have one way to play regardless of opposition or personnel. I will always be a gooner whether we lose 8-2 each week or not and i will support the team no matter what but the board must intervene whether with finance or extra coaching staff or indeed a change of management. No single person is bigger than the club and that needs to be addressed.

  324. kelsey says:

You don’t take your captain off when the ship is sinking. Any explanations ?

  325. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All.

    26. Fine comment. You have been missed.

Rasp. Spot on, lack of tactical nous in the face of a side that was rampant offensively. And, as you so rightly predicted, we ran out of steam on 70 minutes, allied to the 10 men scenario and a beating became a thrashing.

Utd scored 5 goals in the final 25 minutes.

  326. evonne says:

26may – welcome back! I am thinking the same as you – how much of the decision making is left to Wenger? If he is solely responsible for transfers, then I am afraid he has lost the plot. To send those lads out to slaughter yesterday was criminal. We will recover, but when? It is not just the 3 points that we lost. It is going to be a huge confidence-set back for some of the youngsters, including Szczesny.

The EPL Champions strengthened the squad, Liverpool, Shitty and Chavs did so too. We lost 2 best players and 3 good ones, and whom did we buy??

I am no longer shocked, I am furious.

  327. Big Raddy says:

kelsey. I found the substitutions bizarre. The game had gone and the only possible act was to shore up the midfield and defence. Lansbury – yes, but Ox and Cham?? Why?

As you say, what was the point in taking off RvP.

Another positive: Theo had another good game.

Another: It was only 3 points and 3 points we would have expected to drop whomever was playing against a side in top form at home.

  328. MickyDidIt89 says:

I am afraid we all know the problems on the pitch and frustratingly none of us know the problems off it. We are simply going to have to sit tight and see what unfolds over the next three days.

  329. Big Raddy says:

OK Micky. I am sitting tightly (I think)

  330. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Now, open the drinks cabinet….

  331. Big Raddy says:

    Open already …..

  332. London says:

To simply blame the result on injuries and bans is obviously wrong but to ignore their significance is just as wrong.

    Sagna,…………,Vermaelen, Gibbs

    ………….., Song,Wilshere

I don’t think that their is a single club in the world who could lose that much top line playing staff and survive.

  333. Big Raddy says:

    London. You missed out Gervinho

  334. barumgooner says:

Hopefully this is the kick up the Arse that Wenger needs. I am not calling for his head but for two years now he seems to have been completely blinkered by the Cesc situation and taken his eye off the ball. It would seem that he has so much control at the club that while he and his two favourite sons had their heart to hearts the rest of the club just went to sleep and by the time things were sorted its all too late. Yes im sure we will buy but will they be considered improvements or last minute panic buys ?

  335. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Nice try 🙂
However, I can’t remember the last time a second division team went to OT in any Cup and got so comprehensively mullered like that.
What is the status of the Mini-Bar?

  336. evonne says:

London – I think both Mancs and Chavs could cope, especially Shitty. They have enough quality to put 2 full squads. Our squad is too thin, the subs are inexperienced kids!

  337. London says:

My punt at answering you question is that the only possitive that Wenger could get from the game when it was obviously lost was to give certain players game time.

When Lansbury came on I was wondering what Wenger said to him and it has to be something like: ignore the score line and just play your game.

  338. Big Raddy says:

Micky. This is no excuse, but I cannot recall a better exhibition of shooting than yesterday. Rooney and Young’s goals were fantastic as was Parks.

RvP, AA and Theo also hit the ball hard and on target yet de Gea managed to get a fingertip to them – Chesney had no chance whatsoever.

  339. London says:

I am afraid I don’t agee, Chelsea and manu don’t have two squads, City do but I believe it would have affected them enormously.

  340. barumgooner says:

True London but if Ferguson had that many players missing he would make the best of what he had at his disposal, not just shrug his shoulders and concede defeat by doing the obvious.

  341. Big Raddy says:

London. Seems reasonable. AW must be shell shocked by the result but perhaps not by the performance that IMO had some positives.

  342. Gooner in Exile says:

    Morning all

On a positive note we are only one point behind where we were last year if we take fixtures played rather than timeline. 😉

I think my match report may upset a few people but I’ll stand by it.

Nice to see you back 26.

Whilst I agree some of the minnows may put more of a wall up we have to remember that those teams will work all week every week on defending like that. It is a leap to expect that we could play like that after 3 days preparing with the side we sent out, especially when two key defenders were ruled out late on.

  343. London says:

I was going to include Gervinho but to me it was the defence that was out of its depth rather than the attack. I am one of Walcott’s biggest critics but he would have go my MOTM, so I am not convinced Gervinho would have made that much difference.

  344. London says:

“Ferguson would have done things better…………………”

To me, the grass never has been and never will be redder in Manchester.

  345. evonne says:

Well, the pressure mounts on AW. He is being openly asked if he is to quit. The bookies slashed the odds of him being the first EPL manager to go this season.

I don’t want that to happen, but I want at least 2 defenders. I know, as if

  346. MickyDidIt89 says:

I am writing to Rasp and asking for a ban on football cliches and heading up the list is “take positives” and if he doesn’t reply I’m off to set up my own site. 🙂

  347. evonne says:

Micky – first smile since yesterday 🙂 send me a link please

  348. Gooner in Exile says:

Trust me Micky there were no finding positives in the match itself. That’s not to say I’ve awoken wanting to slit wrists either.

Here’s a truth for some to consider:

Reaction yesterday – “squad is too thin”

Opinion last season – “too many overpaid squad players”

Squad players require a salary and for the kind of player we are talking about they are not total mercenaries and actually want to play football, to convince them to be bit part players requires a healthier wage, to have a squad like City they all need to be on first team wages. So we fans need to accept the Denilson/Eboue/Bendtner type players add those into yesterday’s squad and it looks stronger. But of course they have already been judged not good enough

  349. Rasp says:

    😆 Micky

There is one positive – we won’t get beaten by that scoreline again this season

  350. evonne says:

do you think there is going to be an emergency board meeting at the Ems today? Will Wenger get bollocking?

  351. Rasp says:

Micky, you’ll have to excuse the first line of our match report today, but applaud the bravery of its author.

  352. MickyDidIt89 says:

Its the first XI that are not strong enough not the squad. There’s a massive difference.Of course one leads to the other.

  353. Gooner in Exile says:

Evonne – seriously? No…I think the Board will be on the end of a bollocking from Wenger, as 26 says time to stop delivering the company line and demand spending, if he truly is being hampered.

  354. MickyDidIt89 says:

Naturally if it starts with “Council Speak” I shall have a right go at him 🙂

  355. Gooner in Exile says:

Micky the first eleven (minus two) that got the job done in Udinese?

  356. Rasp says:

I take your point @ 8:59, but the fans don’t have any influence whatsoever on which players come or go or what they are paid – if they did, we would have already signed the 3 players we need.

  357. Gooner in Exile says:

    Delusion = Bravery 🙂

  358. MickyDidIt89 says:

This is a serious question. Suppose we don’t add to the squad, where would you expect us to finish in the league?
Honestly, I’m not taking the piss.

  359. evonne says:

GiE – seriously. I am beginning to think that it is his decision not to buy. Straight after the game he said that buying is not the answer.

I would love to think it’s the board that are not caughing up, I adore AW and want him to be blameless, but….what if I am wrong?

  360. Gooner in Exile says:

Whilst I don’t believe we make the decision I do believe we can help influence, did Wenger want to release Eboue and Denilson or did they ask to leave?

This will always apply more to players leaving than arriving.

Rumours continue about signing Alex, raised at Ajax from memory, I’d take him in a drop of a hat but I fear it maybe a bargaining chip for Cahill

  361. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Here’s a think.
Stan K paid a CL level price for his shares. With his business hat on alone he must be thinking “this could end in tears”.

  362. barumgooner says:

London. me either but one has to accept that AF is a truly worldclass manager with an ability to make a good team from average players due to tactical awareness and the ability to adapt. something our manager sadly lacks…. and before i get abuse I am a gooner through and through but am able to see the reality of the situation.

  363. Rasp says:

Alex would be a great signing for us GiE, I’ve always liked him and was there behind the goal when he put us out of the CL with that header.

  364. Big Raddy says:

Given the choice of Cahill or Alex? Alex. A beast of a player.

Can we talk about other potential signings? – any avoidance tactic will do.

  365. Rasp says:

I’d rather AW hadn’t given an interview at all after the game. He looked shell shocked. His words gave little comfort to those wanting big name signings.

The call for DD to return to support AW is louder than ever but I cannot see the present Board agreeing to it.

  366. Rasp says:

Morning Raddy – and Alex can take a free kick too – the only thing is he does get injured quite a bit and why would chelski let him go to a rival? – they’re not us!

  367. Big Raddy says:

Rasp. Perhaps because he wants first team football and with the signing of Luiz, he is even further away. We can but hope.

As to strengthening a rival, perhaps Bolton are thinking along the same lines 😦

  368. Rasp says:

Raddy, I think Bolton would have set up their team in such a way as to avoid an 8:2 defeat yesterday. Someone needs to buy AW a bus to park, but just fit it with a V12 🙂

  369. harry says:

Morning all, its hot under my quilt so i have ventured out, more in anticipation of a fine write up by GIE, go lad, give em hell…….

@Rasp, please i hope you havent cursed us even more:

There is one positive – we won’t get beaten by that scoreline again this season????

When Newcastle put 4 past us in 25 minutes last season, I blamed the ref and we all said it wouldnt happened again…….Oops…..

Well season starts with Swansea, before an away match at Dortmund……!!

Blackburn rovers away, shrewsbury at home, Bolton at home and then Olympiacos………..

All very winnable matches, with the players all available and a couple in?> win that lot and get some sort of confidence back……..

Nothing can feel like that did, rock bottom truly found…..Onwards upwards and forever a gooner………til the day that I die…….
