Cesc and the Spanish Press

Morning all,  picking through the rumours today, it was hard to decide what to use as post as all the stories seem to be equally ridiculous. We are no nearer to knowing if anyone else will be signed before the World Cup or decisions about the future of Almunia, Gallas, Campbell, Silvestre or Senderos – a lot of centre-backs in that list!!

However London put on this interesting comment for us to share ………………..

For all those who are unaware, Spain has two main sports news papers: Marca which is as good as owned my Real Madrid and El Mundo Deportivo (the world of sport) as good as owned by Barcelona.

The Cesc saga doesn’t feature in Marca there simply is no interest but as you would expect our Captain gets top billing in Barcelona’s very own version of Pravda.

On today’s front page they have a big picture of Cesc with his hand on his head and a woe is me expression on his face, above it the headline reads “Vendedme ya” which translates to mean, sell me now. The story goes on about how he has tried to get in touch with Wenger, but to no avail, to plead for his release; he is portrayed as some hard done by Catalan held by those nasty English against his will, desperate to get home.

The other interesting thing on the front page is a poll asking how much they think Barça should pay for him. These are the figures to date.

Less than 20 mil 20%
Between 30 and 40 mil 32%
Between 40 and 50 mil 31%
Between 50 and 60 mil 6%
Between 60 and 70 mil 2%
More than 70 mil 8%

I was quite surprised to see that over 70 mil was as high as 8% but then I thought about it a bit more and came to the conclusion that it must be mostly Arsenal supporters….. I have voted for more than 70 mil five times already.

Well, if we are going to lose him I want to see them be made to bleed.

  1. Morning all

Very slow news day although the rumours are flowing at an alarming rate. The chavs want to keep Joe Cole now,Arteta wants to stay at Everton, The Twitcher is being touted as a possible Benitez replacement – his wily ways should fit in well in scouseland although its a long drive from Sandbanks every morning 😉

World Cup fever is about to hit the UK with more and more flags appearing every day. I had to spend last evening with a spud who couldn’t help herself reminding me at every opportunity that there are no Arsenal players in the England squad – it’ll be spuds that let us down then ha ha ha 😆

I think we will keep another year. Gives Wenger time to prepare, Barca to save their required 70 million. Cesc will get more games for spain having expressed his desire to return home.
    He is ours.
barca just have sour grapes because he left there and like they are getting humiliated.

Afternoon all. Thanks for the peek into Spanish/Catalan sensationalist newspapers London.

I followed the link to the calendar which is pretty cool. I make it that once our merry band of chavs and adulterers win our group we will probably have to beat Australia, France and Brazil to get to the final.

I would like to point out that it was not my intention for the comment above to be a head line post but hey ho desperate times call for desperate measures. That said, it does seem as though I have broken a record. The record for the least amount of comments in one day……Lol

The calendar is good though. Run the arrow over any date……very impressive.

The methadone arrives on Friday, it’s not our drug of choice, I know, but we are just going to have to make do until mid August.

    RVP – love him !!

“Robin van Persie says he would not exchange the style of football played at Arsenal for more silverware.

The 26-year-old hopes he can help bring trophies to Arsenal, but insists he wants to do it playing stylish football.

The Dutch striker admits his Holland team-mate Rafael van der Vaart has mentioned the idea of joining him at Real Madrid, but van Persie insists he would not be interested.

He said: “I’ve always said that I want to win as many trophies as possible in my career, but not at any price.

“What I am trying to say is that I will work my socks off to get the maximum out of my career, but I won’t move to a club which does not play my style of football.

“Dennis Bergkamp is, in my eyes, still ‘The Master’. The fact that he never won the Champions League, the European Championship or the World Cup does not take anything away from his greatness as a player.

“Of course I love silverware in my football career. But sometimes you can’t rush from A to Z.”

van Persie also prefers the stability at a club like Arsenal, as opposed to the constant change of managers at Real Madrid.

He added: “Van der Vaart has said that, if Arsenal don’t sign him, I’ll have to join him in Madrid.”

“But I don’t think that is for me. Real is a fantastic club but the speed of managers and players coming and going is frightening. It must give them neck ache, looking who is coming in and going out.

“They have this philosophy: You did not win anything this year. There is the door and here is a couple of million to buy you off. Ready for the next purchase.

“I prefer the philosophy of Arsenal and Barcelona.”
