The end of the transfer window is looming large and…

Done deal:

So far, here is what we know for sure in terms of in-coming players:

  • Calafiori has strengthened our defense
  • Merino has bolstered our midfield

And what we know for in-terms of out-going players (on top of released players):

  • Nuno Tavares has joined Lazio on loan with mandatory purchasing option if certain conditions are met;
  • Emile Smith-Rowe has joined Fulham;
  • Fabio Vieira is loaned out to Porto.

About to be done deals:

  • Joan Garcia will join AFC as a back-up GK
  • Ramsdale will, unfortunately, leave us for Southampton
  • Tierney is to leave
  • Nketiah is also bound for Crystal Palace

Possible other deals based on the fact that Arteta wants 23 players (20 field + 3 GKs):

  • A player that can play AM/RFW/CFW is still hoped

Here is the squad as it is expected based on done or about to be done deals

  • Raya, Garcia, ? – 3
  • White, Tomy, Saliba, Kiwior, Gabriel, Calafiori, Timber, Zinchenko – 8
  • Jorginho, Partey, Rice, Merino, Odegaard – 5
  • Saka, Nelson, Havertz, G. Jesus, Martinelli, Trossard – 6

So we have 22 at the moment, and there is a spot for an attacking midfielder/CF that can play basically in 2 positions: CAM/RFW/CFW…A bit like Trossard but on the right side of the pitch. Eze, Mbeumo or a gamble on N’Doye (Bologna) are worth looking at. If we sell Nketiah to Crystal Palace, we may even be able to cut a deal for Eze…

Raya – White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber – Odegaard, Rice, Merino – Saka, Havertz, Trossard

Garcia – Tomy, Kiwior, Calafiori, Zinchenko – Mbeumo, Partey, Jorginho – Nelson, G.Jesus, Martinelli

This could be our final squad

    Eze, Coman, Sterling being monitored…

Neto (GK) on his way to join us

We look short in numbers in the key attacking positions. Just 5 decent players to fill 3 places all season (Jesus/Havertz/Martinelli/Saka/Trossard) is not enough. Any of them get injured and we are relying on Nelson and Nwaneri, plus there is only really Saka who can play that RW position with the ability to cut inside on his left. We need 50 games out of him just to stay competitive.

The rest of the squad looks really strong but I’m afraid it will all fall down if we don’t have any cover for our attacking players. If we really want to compete with City then that means competing in ALL competitions and that isn’t possible with 5 forward players.

We don’t have enough forward players. 5 decent attackers into 3 positions is not enough if we seriously want to challenge on all fronts. Only Saka can really play that RW position and we are asking him to play 50 games a season at a high level. It’s too much. Nelson and Nwaneri are not adequate cover for a team that is serious about challenge City. The rest of the squad looks strong, but without the bodies up top it will all fall down.

    Well…

    -> Ramsdale out, Neto in

-> Sterling is coming apparently but Nelson may leave

Saka, Sterling, Havertz, Jesus, Martinelli, Trossard + eventually Nelson if he stays…

I am surprised we did not move for Eze, Mbeumo or similar player…Bowen could have also helped the squad…

Merino will be out for a few weeks due to an injury sustained in training…what bad luck…

  6. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

    Raya, Neto

White, Tomy, Saliba, Kiwior, Gabriel, Calafiori, Timber, Zinchenko

Rice, Jorginho, Odegaard, Partey, Merino + Nwaneri

Saka, Sterling, Havertz, Jesus, Trossard, Martinelli

I am still dreaming of Mbeumo…lol

Nelson to Ipswich on loan with no purchasing option.

  8. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Sterling edging closer…Nketiah to Palace and Nelson to Ipswich…Apparently, AFC looked at Gordon as well…

Sterling would be a huge addition even if just for this season. It gives us the opportunity to rest Saka without losing the pace and directness that he brings. If he gets anywhere near his best form then Martinelli and Trossard will have difficulty staying in the team.

When you look at the players that are available this season compared to what we’ve lost, I would say it’s another step forward for the squad. Two excellent defenders, bags of experience, and winners brought in.

    Neto – Timber – Calafiori – Merino – Nwaneri – Sterling

    Ramsdale – Cedric – Elneny – Vieira – Smith Rowe – Nelson – Nketiah

Official, we say good bye to Nketiah…sad but necessary for his further development. Besides Saka, we are now left without any Hale End product in our team…

Edu has done an unbelievable job since coming in. Everything about our club has been transformed. He’s just sold Balogun/Nketiah/ESR/Ramsdale for £120m!

If Sterling gets over the line then I’d say another very successful window from the club.

  12. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Nketiah changed his destination! Poor Ipswich! Nketiah to join ESR at Fulham…

  13. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

I mean Nelson changed his destination…He is off to Fulham…Ipswich now left with nothing with neither Broja nor Nelson joining…

Here is your squad, at least until the end of December:

    GK:Raya, Neto

DF: White, Tomy, Saliba, Kiwior, Gabriel, Calafiori, Timber, Zinchenko

MF: Rice, Jorginho, Odegaard, Partey, Merino + Nwaneri

FW: Saka, Sterling, Havertz, Jesus, Trossard, Martinelli

  15. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Main Ins: Neto – Calafiori – Merino – Sterling

Main Outs: Ramsdale – ESR – Nelson – Nketiah –

I am still missing Mbeumo or a similar player but maybe Nwaneri is ready for the EPL and Arteta wants to give him playing time…

What a disastrous referee decision…We don’t need to be penalized given Man City dominance…We really need to have all things go right for us…Otherwise, it will be a lost cause for the EPL trophy…and we will battle it out with LFC to catch up Man City….
