Arteta wants new recruits…

Arteta said that while we still need to nurture and grow our current crop of players, we need to recruit to improve our team to reach the necessary level required to win the league. Amen to that…but where shall we strengthen and who could join us according to the current reports?

A) Goalkeeper

By activating the purchasing clause for Raya, we are definitely saying good-bye to unsung hero Ramsdale. We will need to replace him and it seems we are going for Justin Bijlow from Feyenoord.

B) Defenders.

White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber as our starting back four

Cedric and Tavares leaving, Tomyasu and Zinchenko to stay while Kiwior could be let go…The rumours have us linked with Calafiori. He would definitely be a good addition to the squad so we could have Tomy, Kiwior, Calafiori, Zinchenko as our back-up back four…can’t complain although I still think we can do better than Kiwior as a back-up.

C) Midfielders

El Neny is gone, Lokonga too…We are left with

  • DM/CM: Jorginho, Partey, Rice
  • CAM: Ode, ESR, F.Vieira

Seems that we may have to say good-bye to either ESR or Vieira and it also seems that we are interested to get Mikel Merino from Spain with Douglas Luiz leaving for Juve. I think there are better options than Merino but Arteta seems to rate him so…Partey may be extended and kept but he won’t be starting it seems.

D) Forwards

Nketiah, RN, Marquinhos all touted to leave…

Saka, Havertz, Jesus, Martinelli, Trossard to be our main attackers but we need to add at leas 1 back-up winger and 1 Center-Forward…Williams would have been a good option but it seems he will end up in Barcelona and Toney wants to join Utd…Let us see who we can bring…

Ultimately, we are getting 1 player per line and except in the middle of the pitch, it seems we are adding quality squad players rather than starters…We hence need diversity in the profiles and impact players.

Who do you think we should recruit? Are you sad to see Ramsdale and potentially ESR, RN and Nketiah leave?

A center forward that is Technical, big and strong enough to hold up the ball, break through the low block, head goals at set pieces and get 20 plus goals each season, the perfect Arsenal Striker. A strong commanding Ibrahimovic or Drogba type CF.

I think on physical attributes either Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres fit most attributes in the Drogba category, with both being a gamble on being injury free and able to step up their form to the premier league.

More on the technical attributes I would say WIRTZ, Gimenez or Martinez for link up play as well as goals, not sure of their physical attributes as the players mention in the Drogba type category above in my second paragraph for hold up play and low block break throughs.

All are consistent when fit and capable of 20 goals a season, with different styles of play.

But what about someone like Sorloth or take a chance on Toney or Wind?

  3. daveg's avatar daveg says:

RC78, the player Toney and other good premier strikers are all very good strikers, but not considered World Class. But if someone said Toney was coming to Arsenal for a reasonable low fee, then I wouldn’t be upset, but is Toney already at his peak age and not considered world class and probably not even recognised in Europe.

Toney is still a good striker, but Arsenal should aim higher given what money they want for Toney and other premier strikers, and what other striker would prove better value for money, especially a world class striker and if we could possibly get one of the names I have mentioned would be more exciting.

Breaking news…Emile Smith-Rowe to leave Arsenal…He will most likely join Fulham for 35 Miln Pounds plus add ons…

I am disappointed he is leaving and Vieira is staying but also I am sad because he is a AFC boy through and through. Wishing him all the very best and hope he will reach heights to join the England team again.

I can’t say I’m fully up to speed with the Profit/Sustainability Rules, but there does seem to be an element whereby clubs are being encouraged to sell their academy talent rather than getting rid of fringe players/failed signings. For example, we have ESR, who if we sell him for £35m then we see the full benefit of that money and can reinvest because he cost us nothing, whereas on the other hand we have someone like Vieira, who we bought for £30m recently so if we sell him then we don’t get the money back in our pockets to spend because that £30m is offset against the fee we paid for him a few years ago.

Now, I may be talking absolute bollocks here, and please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but that does seem to be how it looks from the outside.

There does appear to be a trend starting. I see Chelsea looking to sell the likes of Gallagher and Chalobah rather than some of the rubbish they have in their squad for the same reason.

Villa sold a youth player for £25m recently, and Man City let Palmer go last year and have sold a few youth players already this season for decent money so that they can go and buy the likes of Doku.

It’s probably the same reason why we are looking to offload Nelson and Nketiah rather than pushing out someone like Ramsdale (positions aside). We have a £30m sub GK, but what’s the point in selling him to a rival when it doesn’t benefit our pockets (he cost us £25m a few years ago)? We may aswell keep him, or at worst loan him out, just in case anything happens to Raya short term.

I think ESR has been unlucky with the timing of the injury he sustained. Trossard came in and can do everything that ESR can do but without the ‘potential’ to improve, but selling Trossard or Vieira just makes no sense if any of what I’ve mentioned above happens to be true. Might aswell get the £35m profit and invest elsewhere.

Absolutely agree with you with regards to ESR…

Now, with why clubs sell youth players…I am not sure…

    So:

    • Raya, BIJLOW and Hein at GK
    • White, Tomy, Saliba, Gabriel, CALAFIORI, Timber, Zinchenko
    • Jorginho, Partey, Rice, RECRUIT, + Nwareni
    • Odegaard, F. Vieira
    • Saka, RECRUIT, Martinelli, Trossard
    • Havertz, Jesus

Academy players likely to train regularly with the first team: Northon Cuffy, Rekik, Nwaneri

    Question marks: Kiwior, RN, Nketiah…

  8. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Calafiori signs for 42 Mln…Here is his chant and it s on the tune of “That’s amore” from Dean Martin:

When he plays at the back,

    he will stop your attack

    Calafiori

    He chose red over blue,

He plays for Mikel and Edu,

    Calafiori

  9. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Arteta-Edu looking to fund midfielder transfer after ESR’s sale to Fulham….Three options left apparently: Merino, Zubbimendi and F. Ruiz. I am not sure yet why we aren’t going for Guimares, Fofana, Reijneiders, Koopmeiners or even Gallagher…

  10. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Odd rumour…Arsenal looking at Leroy Sane…

Saka, SANE, Havertz, RECRUIT, Jesus, Trossard, Martinelli

  11. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Gyokeres still monitored at CF…but it could be that then there is a reshuffle in midfield al together with Rice playing as DM, Ode and Kai at CM…

  12. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Adrien Rabiot is a free agent. He is very strong defensively but not the best at driving the ball forward…Big engine. A good squad player? He can really help see games through for example…

  13. RC78's avatar RC78 says:

Onana – Dalot, YORO, Martinez, Shaw – RECRUIT, Mainoo – Fernandes – RECRUIT, Hojlund, Garnacho

Heaton – RECRUIT, Maguire, Lindelof, Malacia – Amrabat, McTominay, Mount – Eriksen – ZIRKZEE, Rashford

Now with Yoro injured and Martinez injury-prone, it seems that Man Utd will increase their pursuit of Branthwaithe, which means they will off load either Maguire or Lindeloff…With Hojlund out, they may also look for a CF with a similar profile like Sortlorh, Toney, Wind…so I think Man Utd squad will see quite some changes until the end of August…

I think that AFC would not be unwise to bring someone like Mason Mount to the club…He would be a good squad player that can play as back-up to Odegaard and also help with winger duties if needed. He is a bit similar to Trossard although we love Trossard much much more.

Not much movement…meanwhile, Alvarez and Callagher to Atletico.
