The Havertz – Partey – ESR conundrum…

Well well well..Havertz is proving to be more decisive for us in 2024 and a key element of our squad on both defensive and attacking phases…Who would have thought I would write these words back in September 2023…? Trust Arteta and the process? Maybe it is a good idea…who knows?

Anyways, Havertz’ form, inputs and outputs have been good lately and now with Partey being close to return and ESR finally fit again, it begs the question…Do we bring back Partey as a starter? When will we give a chance to ESR to shine again? Keeping ESR out of the team is not going to help our cause in keeping him in our ranks this summer…

Of course, I don’t think we should rock the boat, especially in the EPL but Arteta now has some headaches with his team selection, not only for keeping the team at its best but also in keeping players happy…

    Once Emile and partey stay fit is going to be a big bonus and with our recent form qe are able to give them quality time on the pictch

    The only way I can see ESR playing some meaningful minutes again is if we are obviously out of the title race but remain in the CL this way the priorities will, of course, be focused on Europe and less on the EPL and the importance of resting first choice players for key CL games — will these qualify as meaningful minutes, hmmmm, up for debate.

    ESR won’t be at the club next year, it is now so clear, he doesn’t have the mobility.

    I remember debating on here the merits of Odegaard vs ESR a while back, the difference has become so stark, it really makes me wonder where the debate was.

    • ESR could be off to Newcastle together with E. Nketiah
    • R.Nelsson potentially to Brighton but less likely

    It could be that we lose 3 academy graduates at once…

    Raya – White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber – Rice, Jorginho – Ode – Saka, Kai, Martinelli

    Recruit – Tomy, RECRUIT?, Kiwior, Zinchenko – Partey, RECRUIT – RECRUIT – Reiss?, G.Jesus, Trossard

    There is still space in the squad for ESR, R.Nelsson, F. Vieira, Ek Neny and E. Nketiah in the squad but there is a case for bringing in players like:

    • Douglas Luiz, Guimares, Fofana, Brownhill or even Zielinski and Koopmeiners (apparently going to Juve) in midfield. Merino and Zubimendi eventually to be considered. I d pick Fofana from Monaco though or Douglas Luiz from that bunch.
    • Kvara from Napoli, Nico Williams from Atleti or Gordon from Newcastle on the wings
    • Zirkzee from Bologna, Sorloth from Villareal, Wind from Wolfsburg. I don’t think that players like Watkins and Toney will join us but then we d need to let go Nketiah and/or G.Jesus

    So the back-up team would be:

    Recruit? – Tomy, Recruit?, Kiwior, Zinchenko – Partey, FOFANA – D.LUIZ – WILLIAMS, G. Jesus, Trossard

    If you also manage to keep Ramsdale and bring in a confirmed player like Tarkowsky, Dunk or a promising CB like Branthwaaite or Noro into the team, then we would be able to effectively compete with Man City…
