Can be pronounced V-enger V-otch, I’m easy on that one.
Tell you what though, our Man in Brazil is having one or two re-thinks. Only last night he texted me this:
I’ll be buggered if I’m not going out with a banging”.
xxx A
ps For those of you who don’t speak high level eloquent French, Arsene is basically texting his observations, and thoughts on what he may be bringing back to The Arsenal. You seen anything relevant?

Arsenal News 24/7

Took me a while but a very entertaining exercise for the old brain.
Loved this …. “vous etes les grands ballons du chien sur les ticytactics”
Next time I write a post it will be in Danish 😀
Micky – what fun, I’ve tried to add a translation but you’ve used some very rude words that I don’t think I should include in the post.
Oh and I tried very hard to find a pic of Ollie and Mario together but quel surprise there weren’t any 😉
I’m french and It’s funny for once to read your post in French 🙂
ha ha ha, Micky. 🙂 too much effort for so early in the motning (having just woken up! 😛 ). But I know how to do this, so will do so very soon.
However, what were the main objectives of a post in French:
a) use some expletives which would otherwise be banned on AA;
b) increase readership and comments by writing about the French and drawing the French Gooners in; and/or
c) trying to cosy up to Bayonne Jean.
🙂 🙂 🙂
You show off Mdi89 – next time I do a post, if I ever do, it’ll be in Klingon.
Heghlu’meH QaQ jajvam Mdi89 !
…and if i ever write a post it will be in swahil…e.g katika mechi ya jana uhispania walibaki kuduwaa baada ya kubanduliwa nje ya kinyang’annyiro cha kombe la dunia kwa kuzabwa mabao mawili bila jibu…
Très drôle Micky 😛
Ah herp ve doooo sign ze soooper Mario
Very good Peter …. 🙂
“in the last match of Spain remained illusion after reaching out to kinyang’annyiro the World Cup with two goals without reply kuzabwa”???
I have to say Micky makes much more sense in French than he does in English
Going to be a tense game tonight. Four points could well be enough to get out of this group, assuming Italy best Costa Rica tomorrow, so no need to be reckless. I can see a 0-0.
almost there Rasp,…”spain were left stunned yesterday after being bundled out of the world cup by Chile, they were beaten by two goals to nil”.that’s it now.
So, that is what Didit was up to in the Houses of Parliament! 🙂
Interestingly, Google translate translated “SAF” as “FAS”! 😛
Wenger going out with a bang? and therefore the intention to sign Mario. and why not? 🙂 🙂
Following in the footsteps of RedNose, eh? Obtaining the services of the Cutch Dunt for just the one year to buy some glory? Sad, but can live with that. 😦
Hi peter, this is what google translate says:
“Rumors of England said that club, arsenali entangle paper compiles Ac Millan star of Italy Mario Baloteli, to give him a contract that will be enabled to receive charts £ 180,000 a week”
Lamine. Bolleaux mon ami 😀
lol!,thats funny, looks they translated it word by word,no wonder it’s making litle sense.
Not true Lamine. No google used. Problem highlighted by a text I received from Arsene a few short moments ago:
“Didit, me old mucker, saw the article. Problem is that I’ve been in England a long time now, and I’ve regressed to a type of Franglais. The advantage being that those, like Santi, with the most basic understanding can get the gist.
I realize, and apologize to any full-on Frenchies, that English expressions do not translate. It’s une blague 🙂
Anyway, grand bissou. xA”
Oh and Lamine
I agree Arsene is flopping about in his thong, but I reckon Balotelli could “do a Cantona” and change.
“rumour has it english football club, arsenal are prepare work to offer Ac Millan And Italy star a contract that will enable him receive 180,000 pounds a week”.
Lamine,
Micky does speak français, but he speaks it the way he speaks English – on ne sait pas ce qu’ il dit – il parle français mieux que l’anglais.
[Mais ne lui dites pas.] 🙂

Someone made an interesting point yesterday (sorry to whoever) that doom clusters (sorry Crystals) allow a run to build up during the easier games.
Like you though, I’m happy with the spread.
Where/will Roy play Rooney?
Central is my choice.
His favorite position Micky,in the hole.
IMO Chelsea have bought a duffer in de Costa. He will get sent off more than he scores and Torres what can you say and that’s not even mentioning Cesc.
Kelsey if you had Torres in your team as the main striker, Costa would look like a life saver. 😀
Mon dieu mon amie.
Your broken French is better than my best English.
Please don’t even think about signing Fred…
ey? what’s that all about DdiIt? I could only understand Merci Dennis and lunatique Eric Cantona 🙂
etaust – could you elaborate please?
How deep is the hole Rooney should play in?
IMO he is too good a player to suffer the oxen who play around him. Henderson, Sturridge, Welbeck, Gerard, Johnson. Bunch of mugs who wouldn’t get into AFC youth team.
Right, I’m now sulking. Arnie’s comments of 12.32 and 12.41 rain on the parade that is the (admittedly very dull) post I wrote and submitted last night re our 2014-15 schedule, but which got trumped today by micky’s franglais effort.
Harumph. Am shuffling off to the corner…..
Commentator pronouncing James Rodriguez first name as ‘ham-es’.
English commentators using foreign pronunciations needs to go into room 101. It’s terrible.
Tonight I would play:-
Hart
Johnson Cahill Jagielka Shaw
Gerrard Wilshere
Sterling Rooney Lallana
Sturridge
26. I for one would like to read your post.
Tonight I would play the same team as FGG. We need to attack from the off and not focus on Cavani and Suarez.
Hey 26, come back.
Your word “effort” referring to my post is harsh, but most understandable 🙂
Must tell you it was submitted yesterday early following the plea from Her, so please don’t think I barged in all heavy like
Now behave, and wait in line 🙂
FGG
Yip.
Looks like you really didit this time Micky, you’ve seen off 26M and I think revenge will be on his mind. If I were you I’d do the French thing and wave the white flag.
Three at the back and the sausage has already been eaten. Totally agree.
My favourite post since I first stumbled across the site.
Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
GN5
I’ve really “done it” so many times in my life, that I’m used to it
OK, sulk over….
Actually, micky I think your effort (or as we say in French, “effort”…. 🙂 ) is great.
Et ce soir, 2-0 pour les rosbifs, je pense. Allez les blancs!!
Ahhhh Chas
Best Mates again then? 🙂
Gerv 🙂
Gerv the swerv,
Love the term “les rosbifs”
anyone watching the ivory coast game? Yao gervinho just scored a beautiful solo goal!
Blimey, there’s some Ivorian bloke who looks fantastic, just what we need.
Wait a sec……
What a cracking match
Aurier puts a wicked ball in and looks decent when defending one on one. I would still prefer PL experience of Coleman though.
Great goal by Gervinho.
There is, isn’t there 26
And our faithful booed him……………..good grief – some “supporters”
Aurier looking very buyable. Looks more Lauren than Eboué.
Didn’t Didier Zakora play for Spurs at some point?
Four minutes extra? Webb really is a muppet.
Muppet sound like a MU pet
Do Ivory Coast go out if they lose this?
Would be a great shame

“Gervinho must have gone past three tackles – he skipped past the Colombian players. But I think the Colombia goalkeeper could have done better. If he gets a bigger hand on it then he would have stopped it. That will surely give Ivory Coast some momentum.”
Wenger speaking on French TV said there is a huge possibility we will buy him back.
going by his showing in this world cup so far, aurier is looking far better than corporal jenks
Excellent, GN5!
I wouldn’t play Wilshere.Urugay 🙂 are one of the most physical games at this WC. Remember the opening match in 1966.
I still expect us to win by the odd goal.
No they don’t Mickey.
“Remember the opening match in 1966”?
Umm, no, I don’t. 🙂
Table tennis, then back. Can’t wait.
Of all things I’m on a school run to pick up the grand kids at England’s game time, so I’m going to watch it later. I would tell anybody else to go for a hike – but not my grand kids.
Anyway according to my crystals/sauce we have purchased two players one in attack and one in defence. Will be announced on July 2nd.
Kelsey how “odd” will the goal be?
So now you are on the sauce as well, Kelsey get a grip!
Kelsey I hope your crystals are correct on this one, we need top class help in both areas. One area that seems to have gone quiet is a back up goalkeeper, we simply must get one.
Wilshere doesn’t start so most probably being saved for the third game.
2-1 to England

Evening all.
I’m sure it was a wonderful post,, being thick i couldn’t understand a word, but i’m sure with Wenger’s name associated with it, it must be telling me he has found his new players, and we will see them soon.
Always the same Italians one side of me and Moroccans the other side so i can’t even ask them.

Crap team which shows why Hodgson has never managed a top side.
No bottle and a reiance on effort over ingenuity.
But nevertheless…….
Come on Engerland
Come on England
Raddy, Inter Milan not a top side?
England looking sluggish….
Fantastic effort from Shrek.
When I wrote early afternoon, it was Durham, now Cambridge. Missed the Gervs-Aurier-Cuadrado show. 😦
Apols, 26may 😛 Your post will be brilliant. 🙂 🙂
Come on Engerland. 🙂 🙂
Was only kidding, arnie, but you knew that!
26m: 🙂 🙂 🙂
When we play through midfield we look dangerous. Long balls upto Sturridge are too easy for them to deal with
26. Not when he was there 😀
I like the man but think he is out of his depth as he was at Anfield
England have been really unimpressive for the most part.
Gerrard and Henderson both coming too deep. Exactly why I would’ve started with Wilshere, so he can link Gerrard and Rooney. Henderson can’t do that job.
FGG, looking at how tight Uruguay are to the oppo when not in possession, this does look like a good game for Wilshere.
Sending off for the Urugayan captain – ref bottled it.
Raddy, I thought Woy Hodgson was pretty good at Inter – they were really poor when he arrived, weren’t they?
Freekicks are our best hope at the mo.
26. Is that why they sacked him?
Rooney should have scored that header.
26,
Why have someone as composed as Wilshere when you can have someone who runs a lot like Henderson….!? 🙂
For me Cavani is the best striker in the world. Not surprised he’s miserable at PSG who play him wider with Ibra in the middle.
I’d let him play central for us if I had to.
That was unlucky. Not a great Rooney fan 😛 Nevertheless. 😦
The guy has a big heart, it has to be said. 🙂
Raddy, I don’t think they did sack him, he chose to go to Blackburn. And I think they brought him back a few years later when they needed someone they trusted to be caretaker manager.
FGG, I was really impressed with Henderson last season, but my God, he looks very ordinary in this company, doesn’t he?
Do I detect a note of doom in Raddyland tonight?
Bollocks, bitey racist.
hmmmmm. bugger.
We were shredded in midfield, yet again.
That’s the last time tonight I big up Cavani 😦
Bum
No Gibbs in this team? beggars belief! good for us Gooners, though.
How much would Cavani cost?
Yes Micky – I fear the worst because this team has no inspiration in it apart from Rooney
Raddy
We cannot blow budgets on Cesc, but we sure as hell should for Cavani 🙂
Answer: 3.5 Zillion
The lack of quality in our play is so frustrating.
history suggests we will not offer more than 40m+1. 😛
Not so much lack of quality, as lack of fighting spirit. IMO.
Arnie
And Mesut cost?
Very poor 26, more sideways passes than Denilson! Not sure what his function is in this set up.
Need to see Lambert, Lallana, Wilshere or Barkley second half.
Also, if Baines is going to play so conservatively, then why not have Cole who is a far better defender?
Easy to pick holes I suppose, but still, it’s been very limp from England so far.
The better team is winning. We are carrying too many players – Henderson, Welbeck, Baines, Sturridge all anonymous.
Trouble is there is no-one who can really come off the bench and change things.
I would bring on Lallana and Wilshere (shame Ox is unfit) and take off Welbeck and the hopeless Henderson
Micky. well, that’s different, that was for the wizard of Ozil! 😛 There was a premium.
Makes you realize how spoilt we are: Arsenal are so much better than England.
The inability of the CB pairing to actually play any football is pretty shocking. We are completely incapable of transitioning properly out of defence without resorting to a big hoof.
watched the replay again, shocking defending. 4 players cannot cover one player!
I honestly can’t see anyone in white having played well so far. I’d bring Barkley and Wilshere on, but frankly almost anyone would be an improvement on the performances in that first half.
Whoa, slow down.
Crystals promised us 2-1, so we’re bang on target.
Oh for The Ox
Looking just as bad this half, still just handing possession back softly.
Rocky. Good point, we expect better because we are used to better
We should be two or three down by now.
come on Engerland. still 0-1.
Looking forward to the Everton lad Stones developing. He actually looks like a CB who can play.
Will Rooney ever score in a WC!? Couldn’t have hit it any better really.
This game is crying out for Theo.
Ox and Theo, now that would be a welcome remedy.
We have no width and are relying on Baines and Johnson for crosses.
Come on Woy – change things.
No way that lad should stay on the pitch. He was knocked clean out.
What is wrong with Baines, why is he refusing to cross the bloody ball? Isn’t that the whole point of having him in the side??
Sturridge is having an awful game, as is Welbeck.
There you are BR, our only genuine wide man has been taken off! 🙂
Stupid to take off Sterling. At least he has pace if nothing else
Henderson should have been subbed
Get Lambert and Wilshere on for Henderson and Welbeck.
Barkley Gerrard Wilshere
Rooney
Lambert Sturridge
At least there’s more energy in the team now. Still not great but it’s something.
So in the last five minutes, we’ve seen petulant fouls from Gerrard, Cahill and Rooney. Good to see the experienced players doing well.
We’ve put these central players on and made space for Baines and Johnson to get forward, so why isn’t Lambert on?
SHREEEEEEEEEEEEEK
a worrd cup goal for Rooney
We’ve scored, blimey 🙂
Well that will do. Lambert, Rooney? It’s all the same!
Get in there!!!!
Let’s win this now.
One of the few pieces of quality play, when Sturridge worked the ball on the wing and released Johnson.
Come on!
look at Woy’s dance.
Get in,,,,,
Come on England.
That was very good build up play actually, well done boys.
come on Engerland
Finally, our lot have started to play. Uruguay looking tired.
Crystals prediction is on …… 😛
Rub it hard Crystals
Exciting game now
Cahill is playing very well
Bollocks Mk II.
poor poor again. bum.
Oh dear
Oooops
left side of defence again.
What a finish from Suarez.
So looks like it’s us that won’t get out of the group stage. Oh well, it’s not like our team is good enough to have got very far. Uruguay deserve to win tonight.
Anyone see that Scottish fan – love it!
That must be it.
So does this mean we get a New England manager?
Mass clear out needed and an injection of youth into the England team.
We have the players coming through but Woy chose to stick with experience (understandably).
Now we have the chance for change. Young manager, young team – Stones, Wilshere, Theo, Ox, Barkley, Shaw, Hart, Chambers, Sterling etc
Sadly, we are still missing a striker.
well well well. 😦
Trouble was we only turned up for 20 minutes. No matter how limited the talent of the available players, how can we have played with such lethargy for so long?
Whoa, we can still qualify, but hard to see Italy showing up against Uruguay
The good news is that I’ve developed a new, and frankly sensational, theory
Must not jump the post queue though 🙂
And on that low note, it’s goodnight from him. Goodnight.
We played with fear. How many decent passes did we see? How many times did a player take on his man? Where was the movement into space?
When a team has confidence they play expansively, today England were inhibited which is not good enough.
Let’s hope we see the Ox and Jack start against Costa Rica
Good night
Sorry chaps. England got exactly what they deserved. If anything they were lucky to even get it back to 1-1.
I expected a draw before the game, but when I saw Henderson start I knew they’d lose. What’s the point of Henderson? He can’t contribute to building play from midfield, he can’t provide protection to the defense, I haven’t seen the stats but did he provide any interceptions or tackles? He certainly missed a few important ones.
England aren’t overly blessed with technical ability in this squad and then they decide to leave out the few players who have that. Wilshere for one. Barkley another. Not that I think Barkley is great or Welbeck that bad, but he does have an edge in technical ability.
But as always, England seem to think that gap can be made up by running around really fast and getting stuck in.. Trouble was, Uruguay are more than prepared to deal with the physical stuff, even if the referee would oblige.
Speaking of which, Alvaro Perreira! Not the wisest decision to let him play on, but he really showed some of that famous’ English’ grit. Sterling knew he’d connected with his head, and not only did he play on, he then dived, appealed for the penalty and then walked off. I was very disappointed to see that because that could have been very dangerous.
So, can we have a post in Italian tomorrow seeing as England’s only chance of qualifying is if Italy beat both Costa Rica and Uruguay.
Another limp World Cup performance. A tough group though.
Changes needed at all levels, not just within this group of players. There are some good youngsters coming through, but I would struggle to name a 22 man squad for 4 years time. Until English players learn to play through midfield and in small spaces then we will struggle at these tournaments.
Anyway, still a brilliant World Cup to enjoy, with or without England.
Sorry Raddy, but we had that opportunity after 2010, and again after the Euro’s and most of the changes this time have only been made because players really did get too old.
The only youth Hodgson has taken has been around the England setup for the last twelve months max, whereas they should have been it at the Euro’s or at least all the WC Qualifying. Gerard shouldn’t have been there, the only player in my view from previous failures who should have stayed in the frame is Rooney. The biggest kicker for me was replacing Cole with Baines, 3 years in it age wise (if that). Should have been Shaw and Gibbs out there. That’s not building for the future it’s picking the in form players that are the medias flavour of the month.
Just look at Germany after 2006, total rebuild ground up, put a squad together and stuck with them.
Maybe then Sterling wouldn’t be list in his own ego tonight after earning plaudits from Italy game he would have got these kind of attitudes out of his system a while ago. He would also have realised that what works in the PL doesn’t cut it in International football.
As soon as we equalised Gerard as experienced leader and captain should have been getting everyone back, settled and solid.
I could go on. But the only time we looked good was when Barkley came on and started playing freely, Sturridge and Rooney both came alive too.
It really is a disgrace that England players are some of the highest paid footballers at the WC and we produce that pile of poo.
And ok Spain can be accused of the same failings. But the big difference is you can forgive them for sticking by a team that won 3 major titles in 3 major tournaments on the bounce.
Jagielka, Baines, Johnson, Welbeck, Henderson, Gerrard and Sterling were terrible this evening. Rooney had a couple of moments, Sturridge likewise and Cahill and Hart were almost OK. Barkley lifted the side.
In addition to everything else above.
Unless England cultivate the culture of skillful football rather than robust mercenary rugby-style violence, things will continue to be difficult. We need to get referees be merciless on offenses.
Excellent comments from Shard and Exile.
“It really is a disgrace that England players are some of the highest paid footballers at the WC and we produce that pile of poo.” Yup, on the button.
Arnie, I do think that culture of technique is building in England (eg, we won the European U18 championship or something similar), but it takes time. It doesn’t help when referees and the FA tolerated so recently something as grotesque and destructive as Pulis’s Stoke, but I do think things are moving in the right direction. I can’t see us having a golden generation like Germany’s to bring through but if we were serious, we could follow the example of France.
And yes 26m, we need to be discerning in paying correct value for English players. Some of them need to be shown their place. On the world stage, not only the EPL.
Agreed 26may. A ray of light, and hopefully it will bear fruit.
Arnie,
Exactly. Wenger got it spot on when he said more time needs to go into coaching and less time into games. Teach the kids how to become technical players with football intelligence. Don’t send them out to play games every week where winning is more important than development. That’s how bad habits form like lumping it forward with 10 minutes to go because you’re losing.
Spain were dreadful yesterday, but at no point did they resort to long balls. They are taught to play football and to open teams up through passing.
I’d actually like to see Gary Neville given the England job with at least 4 years to build a side.
Just start from scratch and bring in some fresh ideas. Don’t mess about like we did with Stuart Pearce. Just give Neville the job and let him have the space and time to develop a more European style of play with these more technically gifted players that are coming through.
The likes of Sterling, Wilshere, Gibbs, Stones, Ox, Barkley, Sturridge, Lallana, Shaw etc have the skills to play a passing game.
Agreed, FGG, let us hope lessons are learnt. If we perform poorly against Costa Rica, it can be worse still. That is not so unlikely, no matter how poor we feel football culture is in counties like Costa Rica. Changes are required in the system.
Good call on Neville G, with the squad drawn from the likes of Walcott, Butland, Stones, Shaw, Phil Jones, Flanagan, Tom Carroll, Morrison, Wilshere, Barkley, Ince, Zaha, Sterling, Ox, Kane, Afobe, Wickham, Gibbs, Hart, Smalling, Sterling, Lallana, Rodriguez, Chambers, Jenkinson etc.
Shame it isn’t England & Wales though…………
FGG I’m afraid that’s one area I disagree with Arsene, how many of the players putting in better technical performances than England tonight actually had more coaching hours than England as kids?
There was a WC preview with Mark Watson and Henning Veng and they toured South America, they went to this one place where apparently some world star was first spotted (can’t remember who) they had an armed guard to take them and the scout into the slum, the pitch was all dust and the age range of players was 10 to 40. But that environment manges to produce some of the best players in world football, ok they may then be picked up at around 10-14 and coached but a lot of their experience has been gained in those environments.
It’s the culture of the football that they watch on TV which dictates how they learn to play. It’s the fact that they are playing on a dust bowl wearing burnt out trainers which means they learn good ball control.
But them that’s just South America, not much different in Africa, but doesn’t legislate for so many European team better than us too, that’s probably the bit about the football they watch, as 26 says whilst agricultural football like Stoke’s is accepted in the top flight why would we have anything different from the players coming through.
If we want to improve the national side you get a coach like Southampton had in charge of the academy to implement a root and branch overhaul of the whole of coaching setup in the Emglish FA and dictate to the clubs that they must coach that way and that they aren’t looking for the biggest tallest strongest but the technically gifted first and foremost. Even stoppers from other nations have better ball control than some of our “flair” players.
Watch how difficult some England players make controlling the ball look, long ball coming to Cahill tonight one man in relatively close attendance but not rushing him, if that was another playe he would let the ball come across his body take a good touch with his right foot and play the ball quickly on his second, Cahill didn’t trust his touch so he chests it away from the opponent then has to have another touch (after he sprinted to stop the ball going out of play) and all he could do was pass to Johnson up the line bac use by cheating it where he did he closed off three quarters of the pitch.
Oh and while I’m moaning, Joe Hart!!!! Basic goalkeeping technique, it is much easier to get your hands down to the floor than up in the air. Gravity assistance and all that, so when you go to shut down a player on a bouncing ball keep your f***ing arms high because there is little chance even a player of Suarez’s capabilities can keep that shot low, and your feet are down there already and much bigger with legs than your arms. Basic goalkeeping coaching that I received at ten years old!
Jay Rodriguez, Ward-Prowse, Fabian Delph, Chambers, Kyle Naughton, Carl Jenkinson, Zaha. Just some players who should be looked at apart from the ones mentioned above.
With Theo, Sturridge, Rooney, and players like Rodriguez, Ox and Welbeck, the striking positions should be covered.
Defense needs some work but I don’t think the players are that bad. Smalling and Jones are decent, I like Jagielka and Cahill. Add in Stones, maybe someone like Caulker.
Midfield is the biggest problem. Wilshere, Barkley, have some quality, but what beyond that? I think Delph, maybe Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell, James Ward-Prowse. Maybe ravel Morrison in the future. A lot of those are gambles, but that is why it is important to build for the future. Give them a chance. They can’t be worse than that so called golden generation, and hopefully they will help carry an attitude change into the PL too.
GiE,
Kids in this country are cheered from the sidelines by their own parents for tough tackling, getting stuck in, and working hard. How can that help when tackles are barely allowed in the modern game? They should be spending more time doing passing drills and learning to have their head up. Playing games isn’t really helping them if they are not doing the right things on the pitch.
When I was a kid I went to play some friendlies in Holland and saw that teams are not grouped by age, they are grouped by ability. This makes so much sense. The better players will develop much quicker in this sort of environment. They are also encouraged to pass and move, not kick lumps from each other. As you say, this is what we should be encouraging from the grass roots up.
We might not like Terry Venables much, but look at the sides he put out in Euro 96.

How many times since then have we seen England line up with quite so many flair players capable of passing the ball ten yards or fifty yards, built on a solid back four.
It’s not like we have had no technically good players in the last twenty years, but instead of playing Frank or StevieMe we played both, even when we didn’t we put another workhorse alongside them.
GiE,
Do you think Harry Redknapp would’ve gotten more out of this specific group of players?
He loves his attacking flair players, and this group is not good enough without the ball to suit Roy Hodgson’s style. Maybe the all out attack of Harry would’ve been better served?
FGG I share your concerns I walk my dog over the local park and see all these coaching drills midweek, but then when I watch on Sunday morning it’s ball in the air everyone running round chasing and the biggest player scoring. These are kids aged 6-12, and they’re coached by whoever managed to get the basic coaching badge, and that basic badge is not difficult to get, and it appears as long as you can set up little passing drills you can get a badge, but converting what they learned into Matchday I’m not sure they know why they’re doing the drills.
One of my older teammates took all the badges and went off to the States for pro employment for a girls team.he came back a few years later and took a few coaching sessions for us (a senior team)…he spent about an hour working on a drill to encourage a reverse pass. We then had a few little mini 5-a-sides you could only score if you set it up with a reverse pass. It really was a revelation to me in how coaching should be done.
The Dutch Coever system not only grouped by ability but size, that was also a big factor.
But my team went to Holland as teenagers and we walked over every opponent, so maybe not best.
DB10 explains that he played every position during his youth training so when he had the ball he knew what the left back was thinking he knew where he could hurt him.
And on ‘Arry, well he is unfortunately tactically inept and would not be able to coach this team any better than Roy. He may well have picked more flair players but again look at Chile look at a coach who understands the game and his players.
Whoever the next appointment is they have to have a big pair of balls say shut the f*** up to the press and the fans and the FA have to give him 4-8 years to try something different. If he has to be English I have absolutely no idea who I’d choose. Maybe take a coach out of the lower leagues who has got the best out of a limited team, someone like Martinez when he was at Swansea changing football in the Championship, sticking to a style and a system irrespective of results.
Obviously I know Martinez isn’t English but someone with that kind of ethos.
We actually did the Coever coaching over here and it was far more technical than what we were used to (1 hour drills, 30 minute match with no link to the drills we’d just been doing!).
My mates dad was our manager, says it all really!
GIE
Someone like Bould?
Balls.. Check
Ethos. Check
Success in developing youth. Check.
English. Check
Tactically astute. Check (seemingly at least)
All he doesn’t have is managerial experience, but surely working at Arsenal, next to one of the best managers in the world, should take care of that to a large enough extent.
Bould for next England manager! As long as Arsenal don’t suffer 🙂
Not a bad shout Shard although I think they’d benefit from managing lower down and getting a team promoted etc. that would earn then respect of players
Jurgen Klinsmann had no managerial experience before he became German team manager and laid the foundations for their side today. He faced a lot of flak from the German press but largely ignored it, and appointed Olivier Bierhoff as ‘business manager’, to take care of public relation and general management not related to coaching.
The Germans also decided to institute a B team after Euro 2000 calling it ‘Team 2006’ which played 10 games between 2002 and 2005, It had only 4 players in the eventual world cup squad, Tim Borowski, Arne Friedrich, Mike Hanke and Timo Hildebrand.
However, Manuel Friedrich, Alexander Madlung, Clemens Fritz, Stefan Kießling, Simon Rolfes, Robert Enke, Patrick Helmes, Mario Gómez and Roman Weidenfeller went on to play full internationals, as did Daniel Bierofka, Marco Engelhardt, Fabian Ernst, Frank Fahrenhorst, Ingo Hertzsch, Tobias Rau, Andreas Hinkel and Kevin Kurányi, who had already been capped before their Team 2006 debuts.
This looks like a model England should follow, but do the FA have the professionalism and will to see it through? Doubtful.
GIE
Perhaps that is so, although I think you might struggle to find someone as qualified in all your requirements and also having been a lower league manager
However, my knowledge in this regard is limited and that explains why I suggested the name of Steve Bould based on the criteria you’d outlined. He’s someone whose track record I’m familiar with,
As another indicator of the parochialism of the English game, the bank of pundits on the BBC right now has Clarence Seedorf, Rio Ferdinand, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker.
Ferdinand’s CV: West Ham, Leeds, Man U
Shearer: Southampton, Blackburn, Newcastle
Lineker: Leicester, Everton, Barcelona, Spurs, Nagoya
Seedorf: Ajax, Sampdoria, Real Madrid, Inter, AC Milan, Botafogo
So of the three English ex-players, only one spent part of the core part of his playing career outside England. But that doesn’t compare with the Dutchman, who has played in four different leagues, building and developing his abilities as he went. What can Shearer and Ferdinand really say that has the same value as someone like Seedorf? We have a very limited view of the game, we would be a whole lot better if our players got into the habit of spending plenty of time in other leagues.
Wow Lads, excellent comments.
Glue a couple of Exile’s together and call it a post.
I really can’t add much to the debate in terms of the technicality of training in England in the same way as Exile’s observations and experience, but I do have a Son who I used to take to midweek training, and also spent a very interesting nine hours in the car on Cup Final day with an 82 year old, who has spent his entire life devoted to grass roots football, and he paints a very depressing picture of parental touchline bullying that effects grass roots trainers and refs alike.
Let’s face it, we couldn’t be more spoilt at Arsenal in terms of a footballing culture and philosophy that Arsene has brought, and yet even here, you only have to look at the treatment of a player like Gervinho to think “what’s the point”.
Somewhere along the line, you have to think its tied in with the yob culture that developed in the 70’s (very unique to the UK), and this has produced the Dads of today.
Ok, to shift to something more entertaining for this time of day, could you, Eddie, please elaborate on the “fights” you mentioned with your new neighbours? 🙂

Morning, Micky.
How’s the world cup chart looking?
Bottom of the budgie’s cage yet?
Here’s a little dance tune from a Belgian band called Arsenal.
It’s about two spuds trying to get into clubs with their pet chicken, Glenda but they can’t get past the doorman.
Hey, I just found out that on youtube, if you get one of those 30 second adverts come up, all you have to do is refresh the page and your video starts immediately. 🙂
Chas
“Dance tune” !!!!
Well, the good news is that I’m way past dancing 🙂
Have to say that I think any man dancing over the age of 25 (absolute tops) looks a complete dick.
I preferred the Ad to the Vid 😦
As for chart, I still have England qualifying (yikes) and a Germany Argy Final. Haven’t seen the Argies yet, although beginning to fancy a shock. Columbia?
I could do with a list of Micky’s rules for life as an adult.
I think I break all of them. 🙂
Such as,
no grown man should ever wear a replica kit shirt
no dancing over 25
treat 95% of your fellow human beings as the enemy
always abuse other people to within an inch of getting beat up but no more, else your wife will have to fetch you out of A&E
broken plimsolls to be worn on all serious mountain hiking trips
More tips, please?
What I’m really after is some tips on how to snare some tasty women.
The ‘bare-chested, thong and sandals while riding my bike’ approach doesn’t seem to be having the same results as it did to when you first recommended it.
The nice thing about you Chas is that you live the life of a free man, whilst I’m shackled by petty grudges and an inability to mix with my own species.
Tips for Mating. While I used to be an expert in this field, I rather fancy Transplant may be of more help to you these days
Actually Chas, my lifelong philosophy of never ever talk to a boring man and never ever talk to an ugly woman, is only suitable for someone that doesn’t want friends. I’m 53, and only have five, and I don’t really like 3 of them.
Come out of hiding Crystals and face the music 🙂
Oh, and bring the feather duster
Morning all
2-1 it was but my ball was upside down. 🙂
England were visibly nervous at the start and quite honestly neither Italy nor Uruguay are that impressive (Suarez at 70% fit apart)
We don’t have the depth of squad nor individual players who can really turn it on in a WC to call them world class. What was Hodgson going to do his options were limited.
We are spoilt in the PL was the amount of talent from overseas.
Anyway we were never going to win it .How many years without a trophy 🙂
Mourinho on Özil “everytime he touches the ball, the ball smiles”
What a great quote (aslong as he means the football!).
Great point about English players going abroad. Its still a shock when an Englishmen even thinks of going abroad.
I also think this WC is a lot more open than many initially suggested.Frane are the interesting team,Germany as usual are a threat and the South American teams playing in their own back yard have a distinct advantage.
Looking at the attendence last night it appears that England are not a team that people rush to watch.
I am truly upset about last night’s game, they should have done better, they are capable of doing better. It amazes me that some think England can still go through, no chance
“Only score with a reverse pass” So simple and yet so brilliant.
Micky – reduce number of your friends, 5 is far too many. Get rid off those 3 you don’t like. Dancing Chas??? Sweet jeezus, what next?
Chas 6.49
I could add some more but what happens on tour, stays on tour 😀
will Roy Hodgson lose his job now? Will gorgeous Gary be given a chance?
Morning, Guys
Kelsey said;
— “2-1 it was but my ball was upside down.”
You need to stand on your feet, Crystals. gravity will help your problem. 🙂
Morning All,
Some very interesting discussion last night.
The obvious man to take England into a new era is our own manager.
Wenger has the intelligence, gravitas and power to change the FA. He has the right approach to football matters. He is a wonderful coach. He is committed to the development of youth and is insistent they have good technique.
Thankfully, he is fully committed to AFC.
My – how I would laugh if they take Brendan Rodgers!
Micky,
— “I’m 53, and only have five, [friends] and I don’t really like 3 of them.”
And all 5 of them say, “can’t stand that 53 year old!”
RA
have you got a mirror on your bedroom ceiling.
Raddy in a sentence you are meshuga 🙂
Motning all.
OK, so Wenger is the best option, but he is committed to a relationship for life 😛 So, it has to be an alternative. How about RedNose? At least he will give the press and the FA a flying fig.
Will he be approached? No, because he will give it to the FA. Will the journos suggest his name? No, because he will give them a hard time. Self-serving narrow minded parochialism! 😦
Anyway, if (when) we beat Costa Rica, all the hurt and pain will be forgotten. The world’s injustices will be cited for the losses, and the hallowed football culture for the victory.
It will all be back to the beginning!
BTW, forgot to mention, fantastic discussion chums.
Can we have a photo/ vid of Evonne’s scuffles with the swamp dwellers?
Chas, it might help to know what kind of women you would prefer. 😛
Found myself:- feeling sorry for Rooney, disliking Suarez even more, because for all his cheating, diving, horrible slimy character,he is a brilliant footballer, and being grateful that all my real passion is stored up for a new season and my beloved Arsenal.
arnie. The scottish press must be happy!
It would make sense to give it to Neville – but would he want the job?
Who else is there? Sherwood! Moyes?
Raddy – I think Gary should get the job. His has proven over the past year that he knows about football, his career are a testament to his skills, hard work and commitment. He is young, good looking, likable. He is my main man for the job
Who actually wants the job.Club before country for many of the overpaid prima donna players.
It’s pathetic we can’t find a suitable English manager who would even want the job.
Good looking, eddie/evonne 🙂
kels – watch the vid, it is fantastic. Look, I have already explained it times and times again – it is the personality, body language, smiles that make me think someone is goodlooking or not. Ronaldo is ugly to me, Wayne is ok, Gary is gorgeous
Raddy. Who cares about the Scottish press. I am sure they are obnoxious, but perhaps less so than the English press. At least in their behaviour towards the rest of the world.
I am sure the average Scottish person is sad, not rejoicing. 😦
Morning all,
Still bitterly disappointed with last nights result, but looking at it realistically, when money has been reduced for grass roots English football, and the Government would rather spend billions on Iraq and Syria and Iran, also of course the 30 million we just donated to Afghanistan makes you understand what the government actually feel that the English are really interested in.
English people are down today, we wait for a lifeline from Italy, when we should have been able to have won at least one of our opening games on our own steam.
Anything English is not important in England any more, as far as the the people in charge are concerned they would rather start wars in foreign countries to secure oil prices, instead of pumping it out of their own reserves and letting us all have cheaper fuel, but hang on didn’t they do that with natural gas and look how cheap that was.
Maybe we should have kept the coal mines open, at least our multi cultural England side could have had jobs when they get back from Brazil.
Yes i am looking for some one to blame this morning, bloody gutted, and to expect others to get us out of this mess pisses me off even more.
Arnie
“Chas, it might help to know what kind of women you would prefer”
Generally speaking, I believe he prefers the ones that were born that way, although as with most things, he takes a reasonably relaxed view
RoLF
Morning all
Sorry guys, we haven’t had a chance to sort GunnerN5’s post yet so can you chat among yourselves for a bit ……………
Wow, just the mention of my post stops the blog.
I should have called myself JonasN5.
one two, one two
Am I on today or am I not?
I’m sorry, I only just got back in front of the computer, as there’s no-one around shall we save GN5’s post for tomorrow?????
I think that would be sensible Peaches – and GN5s Post will hopefully get the better response it deserves! 🙂
Are you ‘on’ what, Micky? The sofa? The young lady from down the road? Dodgy Drugs? Big Raddy? (No thought association with the last two items. 🙂
Aha people are around today.
Peaches put up the quiz that I sent you, its not football related but a nice brain teaser.
Quiz! Quiz!
RA. I am as clean as a clean thing can be and have been so for a couple of decades 😀
Just switched on. I know I should want Italy to win but how was the penalty nor given?
Oh my word, Ruiz has scored….
hmmmmm.
Balotelli or Campbell ? Maybe make a good post.
That was a stone wall penalty.
Campbell is already ours. 🙂
Both
Well, that simplifies matters, us out, Costa Rica through. Stunning.
I think we could be going home pointless.
OG to start but still no Kos or Sagna
Definitely prefer my women without cock and balls.
So old fashioned 🙂
OG12!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bizarre 5 mins for OG. Accidently injures a player and is clearly upset, then scores a superb header
I said France could surprise many.
Giroud having a fine game.he really is built like an ox.
If OG keeps playing like this PSG will be offering us €40+m and AW will take it.
LOL
Good to see OG subbed – he had an excellent game
good game OG12
I used to be a fan of Senderoz, but I long ago gave up wondering what happened to him.
Puch it’s now France 5 Nil.
Raddy, I must have been in with the wrong crowd – not only have I never had anything but prescription stuff, but no one ever tried to tempt me – well except buxom Brenda, but she was enough on her own, so to speak. 🙂
RA, I think it was Raddy who was in a bad crowd – probably initiated by Raddy himself 😀
Very enjoyable game tonight
Wow, just seen yesterday’s results.
Italy Uruguay will now be epic and my money would be on U. Imagine that, Italy and Spain out at the first hurdle.
Solstice Day. I know some Druids. They’ll be robing up.
Wondered why there were so many odd looking people on the M5 last night!
In Bristol for friends 40th. Long way to come for one party. But last nights sunset made up for it.
I think we have good sunsets in Norfolk, and then I travel west, and realise I’ve been kidding myself, sky was beautiful last night, although wasn’t great for driving for a large part with sunglasses and headlights on.
Exile
You get sunrise over the sea, we get sunset.
I love floating in the sea, legs pointing out to America just as the sun goes below the horizon.
Raddy
“If OG keeps playing like this PSG will be offering us €40+m and AW will take it”
A straight swap for Cavani? Yes please, like a shot.
Crystals must be into all of that solstice stuff, what with his psychic abilities.
I’m really missing the fires I used to have in my old garden.
Morning All,
Why can’t you have fires in your new garden?
Looking forward to robing up this evening
devil worshiper
How come that both Italy and Urugway played poo against Costa Rica and well against England? bloody match fixing if you ask me
My garden is too small and neighbours would get smoked out.
Eddie
There’s a dark, and rather sinister, side to our Raddy.
I know Micky! you should read some of the books he recommended
Smoking out the neighbours in a good thing, no?
That handsome Frenchie did well yesterday, good, his price is going up, we can sell him for shitloads of euros and get a decent striker
Smoking out the neighbours in a good thing, no?
Is the correct answer ‘yes’ or is it ‘no’? I can never work it out.
Eddie
Like your thinking on Ollie.
By the way, you are being very quiet about your new neighbours
Could always buy an incinerator, maybe not quite the same as those fires, but I normally get the flames coming out of all the holes, and the little chimney keeps the smoke going in the right direction once hot enough.
Micky I’m never up early enough for sunrise
Micky Eddies new neighbours are under her new patio already
Exile 🙂
I do suspect she’s keeping a low profile for a reason
I thought she was feeding them piece by piece into her bonfires.
See you all later, no?
Nonsence. I gave them some veggies yesterday and displayed 2 English flags outside , just like they all did. They are disappointed England is out of the WC as they have no excuse for another street party. I am the only foreigner there. For these reasons I have let the house out.
eff off the devil worshiper, yes !
What a doomer you are Raddy 😉
Let’s sell the whole fecking team and have lots and lots of money
Help help help ……… I promised myself that I’d use chas’ FA Cup Final post to cheer us up when England got knocked out of the World Cup ……..
Is that an appropriate thought or shall I use GN5’s post that should have gone up yesterday?
We have a New Post ………………….
I know there’s a new post, but, as a French national, I had to thank you. Another great page in the history of AA !
