Can Arsenal win this afternoon? Reading some of the rubbish written by various Arsenal websites it would appear not. Others say that even if we beat Spurs, it matters not, because it only papers over the cracks (sorry Rasp 😀 ).
Two 5-2’s say different because what have been the highlights of the last two season’s? Have they been to play in Munich or at home to Dortmund? Perhaps beating Man City at the Emirates in 2012? No, the highlight for almost every Gooner are the thrashings of the cave-dwelling, pond-life from down the road.
Those of a nervous disposition point to the hundred million spent by the N17 mugs, but as indicated in the post headline ….. put a slapper in a fur coat and she is still a slapper. Of course, there is the possibility of a monkey typing Hamlet and one must accept that one day we will fail to look down upon them, but first 11 against first 11, we remain better than them.
Credit where credit is due – selling an ape and buying a zoo with the proceeds is fine work. Even a top negotiator like David Dein would be proud, though it remains to be seen whether AVB can get in the circus trainers to create a functioning team. Carrots, a whip, dog treats and some apples will encourage the process.
AVB working with his new signings.
In the two previous home NLD’s we have given them at least a goal start and then started playing ; such generosity is unnecessary and we need to tighten up. Despite the gulf in class and quality, care must be taken.
Spurs: It will be interesting to see how many of the new signings start. I doubt AVB will make wholesale changes to a team which has won all it’s games this season. Lamela, Eriksen and the horrific looking CB they have brought in from the Gulags are probably not registered yet.
And what of Adebayor and Defoe ? We might despair at Bendtner but Spurs have more deadwood than the Mary Rose.
A short paragraph of my true thoughts about Spurs. They will be a major threat to AFC this season. From the reputations of the players brought in, they have bought wisely – a mixture of experience and exciting youth. It must be an interesting time to be a Cave Dweller.
Their defence looks solid-. Lloris has improved and appears to be a top GK. I was much impressed by Danny Rose last season and in Kyle Walker they have real pace at the back. Vertonghen should be playing in red and white, a poor, poor decision from AW not to sign him. Dawson is their weak link – we must attack him.
In midfield the improvement is huge. Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue are formidable opponents, add in the creativity of the soon to arrive Eriksen and Spurs look very strong.
Upfront, Soldado was very expensive but had a decent strike record at Valencia. And what do we make of Andros Townsend? Is he the new Apeboy or just another Lemon?
I stated at the beginning of last season that AVB would be Spurs best signing for decades. Let us hope I am wrong.
Arsenal:
The injury to Podolski could be costly as we have very little attacking bite on the bench. Sanogo, good as he will be, doesn’t excite. With Ox out as well, Mr Wenger is almost forced to play Cazorla out on the left or continue with Gibbs in front of Monreal.
We need a return to the defensive cohesion we saw at the end of last season and the return of Koscielny is good news. Sagna has been excellent at CB but I prefer him to Jenks at RB.
Midfield will be where the game is won. This game cries out of the discipline and experience of Arteta, but if our little fellows can run the legs off their more physical opponents we will find space for Theo to hurt them.
Giroud. IF Oliver can convert the chances he is sure to have we will win. In my opinion, OG and Theo are the central figures in the game.
My team:
We are seriously lacking on the bench. Gnabry, Frimpong, Sanogo ?? We need bodies. The signing of Flamini in time for the NLD could be important.
The referee is Michael Oliver. His performance will be vital. We have seen young Jack get a right good kicking in almost every game he plays; rotational fouling has become the norm. There is little doubt that AVB will send out his midfield with orders to be very physical and it is up to Oliver to make sure they play within the rules. I doubt whether he will be up to the task but trust he is better than the idiot we had against Villa. There are sure to be controversial calls and let us hope he gets them right. As always, check out Untold Arsenal to get referee stats.
Today will be one of the most interesting and nerve-racking NLD’s of recent times. Are the new Spurs the real deal or just Johnny Come Lateleys?
So, referring back to the opening sentence of the post, of course we can.
Believe.

Arsenal News 24/7

We’re here now ……….. sorry to confuse everyone
which one is Chas I thought it was Raddy and chary 🙂
Hi everyone.
I’m Sam The Man, a Yank from New York, and a Gooner!
And I have a little story and a little film for you all.
In 2012 I treated myself to a (cold) holiday in lovely England to deliberately coincide with the big encounter versus Tottenham Hotspur. At a big bar called The Tavern I was lucky enough to meet many Arsenal fans, one in particular who blogs on this very website.
To cut my story short, the opportunity arose to film the guy in debate with a Tottenham supporter. Both readily agreed to my request when I mentioned a beer or two was on offer as a gesture of thanks. We filmed in a nearby cute little park called Finsbury.
The “Arsenal Arsenal” guy in question goes by the name of CHAS.
My ‘movie’ is now on YouTube (hope you don’t mind, Chas, ol’ buddy).
CAUTION: contains some rather ‘ribald’ language.
Just click on the link directly below.
Top pre-match post Mr Raddy!
After reading the Untold Arsenal referee write-up, I am a little nervous. Give us a fair game ref, thats all we ask.
Good morning to you all.
History is not on our side today, we have played Spurs 79 times at home and won only 23 with 24 draws the remaining 32 going to the bad guys.
As Henry Ford famously said “History is bunk” so we can forget the stats and look for a win today. We still have a team good enough to beat Spurs however much they have spent.
What we want is a positive start, no evidence of a hand brake and a willingness to get into the game right from the first whistle. An early goal will unsettle the Spurs newcomers and allow us the chance to dictate play.
Three points this afternoon and we can forget about the trash down the road until next March.
NN: Looks like that didn’t work either Peaches.
Just be the regulars today, and we are better for it. Though I do enjoy some banter with the neanderthals.
Raddy – I think the post has been subjected to some pretty rigorous censorship by NN 😦 We did have this problem once before, I think the spud editor must be on duty today 😦
Here comes a keeper
http://metro.co.uk/2013/09/01/arsenal-agree-deal-to-sign-goalkeeper-emiliano-viviano-from-palermo-3945134/
Very enjoyable read from start to finish.
If Flamini does play today I pray that the keeps a lid on his tackling.
All in all I can only see an Arsenal win
Hopefully with a repeat of our now customary five goal haul, but now accompanied by a clean sheet.
SS – really? Specsavers appointment needed
OMG peaches, that keeper looks just like Almunia 😦 It doesn’t look like he’s being brought in as a new number 1, I wonder where it is envisaged he will fit in our GK pecking order?
Fantastic prematch Raddy! I am not sure if it was absolutely necessary to include any praises of the opposition, but I guess you are a far nicer guy than me 🙂
I actually preferred the version with 2 Sagnas
Fantastic prematch post, Raddy. Just a quick couple of observations for now.
1. Arsenal will win the midfield. But I think what is key is what happens in the top third and the bottom third
2. I agree with you, top third – Oli & Theo hold the key
3. Bottom third, we have an average of 2 gaffes every game, maybe today there will be three. It remains to be seen how Szcz does today. He will have to be in top form.
4. I think Spuds will try to play defensive. Beginning of the season, cagey affair, wary of Arsenal counter. But we need a win, really.
I am very very nervous, really. Time for another coffee.
Let’s keep everyone healthy, get a result, and hope the lottery ticket comes through.
Liverpool looking lively, leading Manure 1-0 (Sturridge, 3 mins)
car washed, garage tidied, going to cut the loan now….and it is still 2 hours of agony
enjoy, Evonne, better than sitting biting your nails, as I am doing…
damn! the commentator said ‘ and van Persie has broken..free’. I was hoping for ‘…both legs’. Cannot stand him, no amount of time is going to heal it, sorry Peaches you are just a soft touch
the nails are long gone Arnie 😦 are you watching pool frustrating Manure?
yes I am, Evonne, and having great fun. If only they had let Suarez go as well ….
Barry:
I disagree, but agree that things should have been better. At least I think I am doing better than the other gooners, the pretenders, who continue to spew vitriol, and paint doomsday scenerios….
I will be approaching the NLD today with optimism….
arnie – ‘barry’ is an evil troll. He comes in here and gets a huge sexual satisfaction from any responses from us.
This is a family blog and we don’t want perverts, so we ignore him. Beware he uses different names but his comments are always a silly drivel, ignore him
Marriner is continually favouring Liverpool.
The SAF effect is no more.
I don’t know Raddy, the ref could have easily give the Judas a second yellow
Instead he left it up to Gerrard to sufficiently annoy the dutch thing to get him sent off. yes please
Thanks, Evonne, heard you loud and clear!!!!
45 mins now. Planning to watch from home. If I was less nervous, would have gone to a pub and watched on 3D. But dont think I can take it……
Jenkinson plays in place of Sagna. Flamini and Gnabry on the bench
Raddy:
The SAF watch still stands, though. 5 mins of stoppage time!!!! The same in the Chelski game …..
and Sanogo and Zelalem
there you are Raddy – 5 mins Fergie time
Sagna feeling unwell, hence Jenks
1-0 to the Pool
Sagna not even on the bench, is it?
Big win for L’pool.
No worries …… They will fall apart
Yes the Arsenal bench is looking a bit frail – Coquelin and Miquel would have made it considerably stronger.
We can’t afford any injuries . We have no one else who can play CB. We are not going to be able to make any subs that make us stronger so I fear for us in the last 20 mins. But we’ll still beat the b****rds 😆
Glad I’d read pre match before sitting down to listen to Sounness and Carragher write us off….always nice to prove the pundits wrong…..COYRRG
I’m not angry at this point barry, I’m 100% behind our team and I believe that our best team is superior to theirs. We have a day to go before the TW closes so there is no place for ‘anti’ thoughts
From all the talk from Rasp, evonne, GunnerN5 etc.. I expect Ramsey to run the Midfield and boss the game.
Rasp sorry I deleted the troll.
As for your comment on Coquelin and Miquel making our bench stronger I’m not really sure how….we’d have all defenders or midfielders assuming they would be replacing Sanogo and Zelalem, surely you wouldn’t have them on instead of Flamini or Sagna?
Great write up Raddy. Had hoped to see Flamini start. Off to watch. Here we go.
Arsene explained in pre-match: Flamini has not played a competitive game since May. I am sure he will come on at some point. Probably 70 mins?
Haha, thanks GiE,m having posted that Flamini was on the bench,, I then forgot about him, but I would have either Miquel or Coquelin on the bench too
good position for a free-kick
shocking foul, again ….
Lovely try, Santi …
Santi 🙂 he is such a trickster 🙂
Benzema was whistled off the pitch by own fans. Do we really want him?
Pool won today, see, they don’t need Suarez
First and foremost, we need bodies. Benzema, Suarez, humpty, dumpty, and friends …
Spuds midfield doing well now.
Suarez would have been good, though
Giroud, you beauty, ……. GOAL
Lovely team goal, Arsenal style …..
La la la… lalala la lalal la Girooooooood 😛 😛 😛
Lovely play again, Theo brings a save, …
Get in …………..
good save, Szcz
Another one, blazed over… good moves from Arsenal though
Theo in again, taken out by Lloris, fairly says teh ref
I was worried about Jenks, OK so far…..
Townsend in again, straight to Szcz, Spuds having some fun in the MF again, though
Wishere off, oh dear!!!! Flamini on
Is it a new knock? i did not see
Good half overall. Lovely goal, great interplay: BFG, to Theo (acres of space), to Giroud, GOAL.
Spuds having some joy in the MF occassionally, but no link up upfront. Townsend only one with any initiative
Arsenal MF and frontline, lovely interplay. Rosicky great in a central role.
Gibbs having a time of it over with Townsend and Walker hasn’t really got much help, could do with Monreal coming on later if it stays at 1-0.
Great movement by Giroud for the goal and very nice speedy move.
Their midfield of Paulinho, Dembele and Capoue was clearly intended to be the springboard of counterattacks but we did the same to them except have more quality in the midfield with through balls and passes.
They’ve reorganised a bit since the goal with Paulinho joining in their attacks more. Flamini on for Jack could be a blessing.
Better touch from Theo when he was through and he could’ve either scored or earned Lloris a red. But he is playing with a swagger about him, doing things he doesn’t normally try, the headed nod on to Santi which just missed, the attempted turn on Rose in the box that had it come off would have earned a penalty.
We need to keep their wingers at bay and not let them get to the box to be making last ditch tackles, get tight early and stop them early.
If Arsene tells them all that we will be sound as a pound:)
sorry, Rosicky to Theo, I think, not BFG
Anyone else nervous!?
That Townsend all of a sudden looks a world beater. He was terrible a year ago.
We were excellent first half. Just a shame we couldn’t grab another. Hopefully one more flash of quality from Cazorla, Theo and Giroud and we can put it to bed 2nd half.
My lucky pants are working so far.
Sheep
We’ve had enough opps to be 2-0 up…..lets take our chances 2nd half
Specsavers Evonne….pourquoi,,??
Nervous? me …… another cup of coffee …..
pour moi, obviously 🙂
Arsenal giving away a bit too many in MF
Nothing at all coming down the left for us. TR or Santi have to give us some width.
Worried about Jenks, his man has the beating of him
Freekick, dangerous position, yellow to Flamini
i find it difficult to dislike AVB
But Soldado is just about to become public enemy No 1
walker is a disgrace
yes, Soldada gives a push to Kos, and then a mouthful … only contribution in the match so far?
But Arsenal giving away too many free balls ….
good counter, Santi (loads of space), to Giroud, very nearly ….
Now wld be a good time for an impact sub. Like Chambo.
Our depth is lacking
Theo in, but Lloris does fantastic again …
Lloris has just shown us all what a top quality keeper can do. Already saved spurs twice there with two last ditch slides.
Bit of a tart for a strong defensive midfielder 😀
Adrian that’s 50-50 in both situations better touch or better pass would have resulted in red. Keepers gamble every time.
Ramsey clutching his hamstring, worrying ….
Theo has a heavy first touch. Not the first time its happened. Needs to work on this
Great having Flamini in their you can see him organising those around him and leading the way.
their best player is out for a while 🙂
my Wojtek, what a guy, hero
amazing save Szcz again … both GKs have been fantastic today
yes GiE, the Invincable, winning mentality, physical presence, anger, great signing
Hopefully just a bit of cramp Arnie
On Ramsey, yes, hope so, GiE
On Flamini, agree, GiE and Evonne…. excellent signing
That shot of everyone blocking there could have been the Innvincibles or earlier…Thou Shalt Not Pass!
Giroud, lovely on the right, how did Monreal miss that …
The pole in goal man of the match
Its not over until the fat lady sings.
The wife’s working so she can’t sing .
Sheep
Arsenal tiring visbly now. too many fouls as well.
i cannot believe the tempo of this game, must be the fastest game yet
more good defending, very nervy ….
5 mins stoppage time, oh dear
5 mins????!!!! what for
the capoue injury, i think
Are we parking the bus?
back to the walls time, all 11 defending for their life ….
freekick, a chance to get the ball up, finally ….
Game over simples
Done, well done, great work…
Back to N17 bashing, and to Transfers ….
Who said we can’t defend, who said we’re all possession and no end product, who said we can’t grind out results, who said Spuds are better than us?
Shut The Fuck Up and Support Your Club.
North London is Red….the shadows over there go stand in it Spudders!
Evonne: yes, amazing pace all through. now some rest to the boys over the intl break, well earned….
Lets hear Jamie and Souness discuss how we have no defensive midfielders again..it was really fun pre match…..can’t recognise danger, can’t win the ball back, can’t tackle.
How many times do these morons need to be made to eat their words before they shut up?
Thats the spirit, GiE
FINALLY ARSENAL BRING ME HAPPINESS!
At least Hansen is being kicked out of MOTD …..
So that is what spending big does for you, 109 million pounds spent and Spurs are still shite, always will be shite and always will be in our shadow. A great team performance from the Gunners and an outstanding performance from Giroud. However, if we can bring in a couple of class players before the deadline I would be very happy.
Someone get Soldado out of Koscielnys pocket he might be mugged on way home with £28m in it.
On Beebs:
Conor McNamara: “A summer of hurt and dejection for Arsenal but their team has been good enough to beat Tottenham’s new galaxy of stars. They’ve won an epic battle.”
Pat Nevin: “They’ve had to chase, had to fight, but Arsenal deserve that.”
The Flamestar is back and didn’t it show Yessssssssssssssssssss
If all our crisis’ (crisises? crisees?) are this good then bring them on!!!!!!
On a serious note though we might a really have a crisis now we have Wilshere injured and Rosicky and Rambo looking hurt!!! Oh well, I couldn’t give a Bale’s left nut right now because we’ve just played the Spuds off the park and shown them that you can’t buy team spirit!
Outstanding performances!
Yes, the Flamester was fantastic. His game was OK, but the leadership, the organising … amazing
Haha loving the prematch Spud fan retweets going on on twitter right now, even our club photographer in in the act:
I don’t know how all you fine ladies and gentlemen manage to post while watching the game. I only just about find time to bite my fingernails to the quick.
I found looking at the stats interesting which at face value looked like Spurs dominated in terms of possession e.t.c. Chezzer made a couple of good stops from long rangers but I rarely felt they created a clear cut chance. I felt that all the really clear cut chances were created by us and didn’t get the feeling that they were dominating possession.
Just goes to show that the basic stats don’t always reflect the true nature of a game. Spurs were almost like the Arsenal of a couple of years back with lots of possession in useless areas but no real threat or penetration. Now lets just get those additions to the squad and move forwards.
Now everyone can finally see why Wenger was more focus to enhance the dynamic and the chemistry of the team during the preseason than spending all his effort to bought a player.
I know we need signing, badly, but the chemistry among the players that we build during the preseason can keep a clean sheet, even without a defensive midfielder.
I don’t want to be a party booper guys, but Spurs looked good. For a bunch of guys that hardly had any time to play together, they put on a great performance.
A win is a win, is a win….even if not very convincing
Just brilliant. A backs against the wall performance.
OG and the CB’s immense.
Evonne. Pull yourself together.
err, I mean against Fenerbache. 🙂
(forgot about Flamini)
GoonerB: No fingernails left to chew on… but great fun ….
Evonne: Arsenal created the only chances in the game. And they were created by playing a lovely passing game. Spuds had long rangers…. plenty of possession, though, certainly second half …
evonne,
I would not say its not convincing, its more like Wenger take a more pragmatic approach towards the game. We had 6 defenders at the end of the game. In the old days Wenger will never take out midfielder from the game.
It appears our Troll is upset by winning football matches ….. Kinda makes sense really
We have just beaten our local rivals who have spent 100m in the summer.
And yet our troll chooses to accentuate any negatives, yet calls himself an Arsenal fan.
What a complete and utter tool
But not even that #⃣#⃣#⃣#⃣ can ruin tonight.
Oh to Oh to be, Oh to be a Gooner
Arsene: “maybe we will have a good surprise for you .. give us time till tomorrow midnight … long day coming”
Sniffer is not a happy bunny😱
Well done to the fans today too, really funny to see the whole stand waving the players up the pitch towards the end.
AvB got asked about bale leaving for RM in 24 hrs
“i told before we started not to ask me that question. Dont ask me that question” *walks away infuriated*
touchy touchy ROLf!
North london is red!
What a happy day 😀
Altogether now: “you can shove your hundred million up your a*se, you can shove your hundred million up your a*se…”
such a relief.. and proud. —- now a bit of business???
Haha, AVB apparently saying that for us to finish with 4 FB’s on the pitch says much about Spurs domination. AW just confirmed that Jack and Sagna have some sort of sickness bug and we know we are thin due to injuries. So AVB I think that the reason we finished with 4 FB’s was because we had no choice, and we had to play with sick players and still you rarely threatened ( a view shared by Carragher).
“Spurs domination”? Maybe what he meant to say was delusion but hasn’t got used to the fact that English words on average are shorter than Portuguese words so felt the need to add a couple more consonants and vowels.
Wenger very sheepish and evasive on new signing. Hints at a surprise.
Andy cole thinks we need a cf, cm, cb and gk. What the hell does he think he knows?? Schot up!
Haha Rocky not sure it’s up their arse, there’s definitely £28m in Kozzers pocket, £15m on way to Islington General, anouther £20m in Jenkinsonspicket and the rest shared between Rambo, Santi, TR7 and Flamester.
LB will fly up the Pyrenees after hearing the result
Lol, you sound upset Tristan. That’s funny for a fan of The Arsenal, having just seen them beat your biggest rivals who’ve spent loads ??!!
GIE 😀
Have a look at the table 😀
We back in the top four guys! 😀
Rob – and we are moving up!!! that’s the important thing, especially that Spurs are moving down 🙂
Raddy – sorry, bad timing for such a comment 😦 this is to make up for my foux pas
Aaron Ramsey @aaronramsey 12m
YES!! Great result and definitely the best atmosphere I’ve experienced at the Emirates. Enjoy the evening, Gooners!
Expand
Great result. Good to see a full stadium at the end, rather than everyone scurrying off to catch a train!!! One of my pet hates – sorry.
Lots of drunk Spuds phoning up 606, lots of switched on Gooners pointing out to whoever this Kelly Cates is that just because Spuds spent £109m and signed so many players its the destination of choice for great players….did she even watch the game?
Ian there are many of us who agree.
I am loving Wrighty mugging the Spud fans off……well worth a listen.
You can tell he is no longer in TalkSports pay
Wow Wrighty just gave his take on the Mata fall through…..nothing to do with dithering.
“Arsene did eveyrthing to make that happen, it fell through because the agent right at the end wanted more money, and Arsenal wouldn’t pay it, Chavs did”
So there you go we decided not to pay the agent a bigger chunk of cash, given our past experience are we surprised? No.
Wonder if same happened with Willian recently.
GIE There are a few who come on here regularly, who would do well to study that statement before they make the uninformed statements that so often disfigure this blogg
Agents are the bottom-feeders of football.
But had we signed Mata we may not have signed Cazorla and quite rankly I prefer our Spanianrd. Both would be even better
On the few moments Soldado found his way out of Koscielny’s pocket, he looked a decent Championship standard striker.
26mil? Levy is very good at transfers eh?
BR Dont you think life was much more fun when the best known agent was Dick Barton? 🙂
Rob you have just given me a good ROLF
“On the few moments Soldado found his way out of Koscielny’s pocket, he looked a decent Championship standard striker.”
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
I didn’t mind Eric Hall to be fair, at least he was a character and in the main did well by his clients who then did well by him….ok he took his share but I guarantee he was only ever taking a set percentage not a separate amount altogether.
Perhaps its time for UEFA to look at agents, FFP will have an effect, but the amount of money that disappears from the game into the pockets of agents who just buy another car should be scrutinised…..it’s not like they are doing anything with the money to further the game.
DD. I am more 007 era 🙂
So, Spurs learned from Lasagnegate and poisoned both JW and Bacary. They can’t even do that right.
Soldado showed great aggression. Unfortunately, it was through his hands (pushing Kos and shoving into his pockets), and his mouth (hurling expletives, and some extra shower)
Wenger on Flamini: “I said it was a no-brainer. I am just sorry he didn’t cost £25m.
While as Aaron Ramsey stated in the postgame that Arsenal may be a bit short NOW, Spurs showed once again that they are ALWAYS a bit short…..
Quick visit.
Just have to say: “That was alright, wasn’t it” 🙂 🙂 🙂
Listened to it on the radio, and the crowd sounded fantastic. Cannot wait to watch the game on Iplayer tomorrow.
Last up. I owe an apology to Arsene and Flamini. I was wrong, as it sounded as though he had a great game. Sorry to you both.
Enjoy the evening all. I know you will 🙂
Gie,
its such a shame in this era the a quality of a player is judged by its prices, which is mightily inflated. Just look at Flamini tonight.
Say a silent prayer tomorrow for all those football fans, who will turn the Solitaire on their screens at work off, and slide in and out of News Now, BBC/Sky News, their club website and AA whilst keeping a weather eye out for the boss, just hope the IT Dept. is on their side 🙂

War? What is it Good For? Mashing Spuds Actually
Evening gooner mates, what a lovely outing to the Emirates today, I wish you all could have all been there the atmosphere was truly rocking.
The scum are very lucky they have such a good goal keeper or that could have been a good thrashing by the good guys.
Flamini swoon ………….. he will change all doubters minds. A yellow card within a few minutes on the pitch says it all, he will be our all action hero 🙂
The funniest though has to be our secret weapon, all 5ft 4ins of him ……………. players just seem to crumble at the slightest touch from our little twinkle toed magician. Long may it last 😆
Evening all, I have yet to see the game as I was at work, but great to read all your subtle and understated words of celebration 😆
Sounds like the Flamster (there’s no ‘e’ in it) had a very good game. My son tells me he put in some crunching but fair tackles – the sort Sam Allardyce would encourage with the words “just let him know you’re there son”.
He also said that Ramsey was all over the place (in a good way) and they could not cope with the movement and crisp passing of our midfield 3. It sounds like the spuds tried to use width and pressurize our FB’s – in which case the subs were spot on.
Rasp your son is spot on on both counts.
Worth reading just for the sub ratings. Arseblog lights up the internet.
http://news.arseblog.com/2013/09/arsenal-1-0-sprs-player-ratings/?utm_source=feedburner.com%2Farseblognews&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+arseblognews+%28Arseblog+News+-+the+Arsenal+news+site%29
One of the funniest things about today is that even though Spurs have spent all this money, and the media love to bash Wenger’s lack of spending, most of the media ‘experts’ still tipped Arsenal to win today!
Shows the likes of Merse & co can talk sense when they want to! 🙂
From Arseblogs ratings BFG tackle worth watching over and over
Dont know about others, but I thought Rosicky really had a fantastic game in the middle of the pitch. Also, I think the Arseblog ratings do not reflect the impact Theo had on the match.
On the flip side, and I know this may not be the best time to bring this up, I think the left side did not look equally good in the top third. Santi is more natural in the centre, and Gibbs was OK, but not really setting the pitch on fire.
On the other hand, the defense looked very good, and particularly pleased with Jenks. I thought he had a really good game.
GoonerB – “so felt the need to add a couple more consonants and vowels.”
Tee hee….
I always find that Portugese sounds a bit drunkenly slurred anyway
FGG I think what’s funny is that apparently AVB should be given time to bed his players in and for them to get to know each other….I thought that’s why business got done early.
Oh and Flamster’s been an Arsenal player for how long? He seemed bedded in. In fact I think I saw him digging a trench with Rambo in the second half and threatening to shoot deserters.
Any word from Red Derrière?
Two pearls from Arseblogs ratings:
“They spent a fortune. We, like an old man with bladder problems, haven’t been able to spend a penny. ”
“fouling Spuds should get you a medal not a yellow card.”
🙂
Talk on twitter is that Capoue has a broken leg. you see I told you Santi’s a magician, given time he could probably have done a bit more damage to them.
Glad to see not many people really mentioned Kozzer or Santi today. Their 8 out of 10 performances are par for the course these days.
Thought Szcsesny was excellent too. Definitely goes down as 2 points earned on his list today.
Can see why Giroud got motm, and Rambo was everywhere, but for me Cazorla was at the heart of everything offensive we did today. The way he creates space for his forward runners and times his passes is a joy.
Normally woukd not get excited about press reports, but Mesut Özil to Arsenal seems to be a strong rumour. At least, it seems Arsenal and PSG have submitted bids. We are not desperate for an AM/RW, but still …..
GiE – “digging a trench”
Arseblog who….??
Hi peaches, did you see the incident that led to Capoue’s injury. I’m told it was unfortunate as opposed to malicious play of any kind?
Walcott proved again today that he is now a world class impact player.
His footballing ability has improved massively and he is now a key player for Arsenal. I don’t care if he doesn’t beat a man with tricks, or can score from 30 yards, because all that matters is that he can win a game with a single moment of quality.
His pass to Giroud was absolutely perfect so that the Frenchman could flick it in without breaking stride. It was perfect wing play and all that was needed to win us a massive game.
Thats where I struggle a bit Arnie, when it looks like we might be sending 30m odd on areas we are well stocked in.
Its an odd one that I cant quite reconcile in my mind. Yes we need players but at what level and at what cost.
I despise clubs who have big signings sat on the bench, it would be even worse in our case with better and cheaper players (Rambo, Jack) already in the starting 11.
Is that Arsene’s big dilemna ..??
Rasp: It was an accident, he really fell over and cracked something in the process (ankle?) I saw replayes on the tele
Rasp,
Cazorla tried to lean in to Capoue as he had just robbed him of the ball. His low centre of gravity usually allows him to get his body between opponent and the ball when he leans, but because he’s so short he ended up falling full weight onto Capoues leg which got caught in the turf.
In no way was it malicious.
Rasp it was a strange one, I think Capoue got a free kick but i actually think it was a foul on Santi, and then Santi fell on his leg, which trapped his ankle and could easily be a break, but as you say almost a freak one rather than a Shawcross type assault.
FGG – thats just time on the traing grd, Theo now understands OGs intentions and runs, before they even start.
Happy days !!!
Just watched the goal again and Merts tackle to win the ball was that of a boss!
Alright Rasp
It was one of those innocuous ones with Santi falling onto Capoues leg sort of sideways on.
Ref gave foul against Santi, even though Capoue leaned heavily on Santi causing the fall. Decision could have gone either way, but definitely a freakish outcome to suffer an injury like that.
FGG – Merts just class …full stop !!
But he is regarded as being one of Arsene’s panic buys right
Sharkey: I am sure this is part of the dilemma. Arsene does well though in trying to get players who are more versatile (can play in multiple positions) so they stand less chance of warming the bench. But this is an odd one, I think …
SSG,
Ironic that he and Arteta are probably the 2 calmest players on the pitch! Maybe they are called panic buys because they make the opponent shit themselves! 🙂
Sharkey, according to twitter Arsene is really panicking now and Di Maria and Ozil are en route to Emirates as we speak….if this happens it will be a sensational window and people will finally understand why we have not done business early.
If it doesn’t happen…..well it’ll be fine i’m sure 😀
Thanks to GM for retweeting this:

GiE:
Panic buys, eh! hahaha
There were reports of an Ancelloti press conf earlier in the day that suggested Di Maria is not going anywhere. Who knows …
Certainly, Arsene knows the TW endgame pretty well. But, we will see!
In fairness GiE, our twitter squad includes Fellaini, Higuain, Jovetic, Suarez and Williams! 🙂
We can dream though!
IF we got those 2 we would be challenging for the PL. Aslong as Giroud stays fit!

I’m done with NLD day time for TDD 😀
Sorry for the rude word below, but it is funny:

Thats enough twitter rt’s from me
GiE,
How dare you use the word G*zidis on this blog! 🙂
Does anyone fancy writing a quick post for tomorrow, I think there’s going to be plenty to talk about 😉
Was Flamini that good today or is it just that we haven’t had a proper old-school DM in there for that long that we think he looks like the 2nd coming!?
When he played his last season alongside Cesc in a 4-4-2, he was often bossing midfield on his own. I just worry that we are not used to seeing a real dogged battler in the CM and are maybe hyping him a bit.
FGG he is better than Scott Parker and that is all we need to know
FGG: My view is that Flamster was good, not setting the pitch on fire! Having said that: 1) this was his first game since May, and 2) he looked very much a leader. talking to the guys, organising things, and overall a very positive influence
He was a Gooner, through and through …..
German sports news reporting Ozil to Arsenal……signing to be completed tomorrow.
Oh fgg, don’t be so old fashioned, he was super super quality and he’ll do a great job for us 😀
I just love the way the way the guy tackles ……… I bet Cesc was well jealous to see him come on, he got a great reception 😆
Ozil ……… two playerz with a ‘z’, it’s a good job that Boris Becker doesn’t do football commentary.
Peaches
I can do something for tomorrow unless someone else would like to do a match report…
Peaches: could have been worse if we got Suarez as well… ha ha ha
Sorry Peaches!
Consider my wrists slapped! 🙂 Flamini is the best thing since……well…..Flamini! Haha!
This Ozil thing is hotting up! Is it wrong to excited!? We get let down so much I don’t want to believe it. He is different class.
We live in hope! And we live to fight on!!! Whatever happens, that is the spirit …..
AVB: Arsenal finishing with 4 full backs means something to us…
Has he not seen our last 3 games! We have no players! Full backs are Wengers new toy! 🙂
Thanks for the post Raddy
A fine win, full of guts and passion.
I thought we gave them a bit to much respect today. If you take away the threat of Townsend, they ressmbled a team of Frankensteins. ime sure there three midfield players are all suited to centre back
I am obviously hoping we can pull of a couple of big names by tommorow night.
Seriously guys, this Club is all prepared for lift off. Its been in the pipeline for nearly a decade.
Signing a couple of big names to go with the harmony, spirit, and style of play we posess is just the ticket. Throw in the internal development of our young core and we will be chalanging for the big prizes very soon
I would just like to go on record to thank Arsene Wenger. The man has taken flack and nonsense from virtuly every quarter but he is simply different class.
I am so thankful we have a manager who can deflect foolish critiscism and grateful that he has stayed so he can build another great Arsenal team.
A lesson in how to guide a self sustaining football club through a stadium move, safeguard its identity and integrety, and then mould another side capable of winning titles is soon to be realised.
“The Ghosts of the Thirties are Stirring”
We still need another player who can lead the line as well as a player like Ozil. All the first choice ones seem to be no goers. I can’t see Madrid letting us have Benzema as I don’t believe they will get their choice of replacement (Suarez) at this late stage. I wonder if a deal can be done with Chelsea for Torres or Ba or whether we could still get Michu. They have Bony now and I wouldn’t mind at all if a player like Akpom went to them on loan. If they felt he could add something to them I think Swansea and laudrup would be a good place for a young developing technically good striker like him.
FGG It’s not like our full backs are renowned for being great defenders either.
If we don’t get plaudits for defending as a team in tomorrow’s papers we know the media is against us.
Sounness hates us every time I see him on Sky he is having a dig at us, there’s a reason you’re not in football management anymore Graeme, the game passed you by a long long time ago.
Well said Terry, and in fewer words Arnie 😀
Terry your comment was echoed by someone on Twitter that said it was like playing against Stoke as Spuds have signed 6ft+ players
Peaches ill do a report.
Just want to praise Giroud for today. Weve talked a lot about how we need a finisher and a ‘fox in the box’. Spurs have just paid £26m for a 28 year old one (more than the £24m paid for RVP!) yet it was our forward who got motm and won the game.
I saw a stat for Soldado after the Swansea game (I think) and it said that he had 1 shot on goal all game, and that was a pen! For me, the difference today was Girouds involvement and link up play. Giroud gets involved in the build up and brings others into play, Soldado doesn’t. Giroud is happy to feed the wingers and then bust a gut to get on the end of crosses. He ends up running from deep which makes him harder to pick up. Soldado on the other hand is a bits and pieces striker who loves standing in the 6 yard box waiting for the ball to drop.
I thought Giroud was outstanding today and I know which striker I’d rather have. The one that costs half of the other!
Thanks GIE
It was strange seeing Totnumb like that. All we had to do was sit off and ask them to create, and they could not.
They will improve, but they will not breach the gap with Arsenal, we have to much quality and will improve both internaly and through aquisitions.
My only thought is how quickly can a title challange come. With a couple of big signings we could have an outside shot this season.
Regardless, a genuine push for the title is coming. Its a question of when not if.
Thank you GiE, tomorrow is yours.
Rocky can you be prepared to do something for Tuesday after the window closes pease?
Thanks GiE, we’d love you to write the match report 🙂
One nil and we spent fuck all,
One nil and we spent fuck all……
Sweet dreams. 🙂
Anyone think Bale would’ve got them a point today? I reckon he would, and that makes me very f***ing happy! 🙂
Thanks a lot, GiE, and thanks everyone. A thoroughly enjoyable day, and hope tomorrow will be better.
Before saying goodnight, a quote from MOTD: “And Mert sticks out a giraffe leg”. hahaha. Good fun
Reports in draft guys, I may have been a bit over zealous with the ratings 😀
Great result!
When was the last time you saw defensive commitment like that?
When was the last time you saw the team play with such passion?
This could be the most interesting premier league race in years.
Peaches
I’d be delighted to do the Tuesday Post.
Especially if some of the rumours about new toys turn out to be true 🙂
nothing yet
Ozil chose us over Manyoo??? i don’t know, what is this world coming to 🙂
Morning all
just caught up with the game and the commitment of every player was magnificent. Not a day to pick one player out,it was a resolute team performance. A real deft touch by Giroud.Must mention the home support as they were fantastic.
It was always going to be tense towards the end and the last 5 minutes remined me of The Alamo.
Like others have said that smie from Wenger post match hopefully means we have a big surprise coming our way today.
I would just add that though it now seems unlikely the position that really needs covering is at CF, Giroud is gaining in confidence week by week, has a good understanding with Theo, but if he got injured we have no quality cover for him.
Morning all,
Just been on Iplayer.. Wow, some of the passing was very crisp and sharp. Ollie superb, and I didn’t see one attempted high cross. His close control was brilliant.
Would any player choose to sign for us, or Utd under Moyes? 🙂
Giroud leaps out of the trenches in attack as the nervous hun wait in silence for the inevitable slaughter,

Kelsey
Methinks, and have always thunk, that Ollie’s understudy should be Podolski, which will be just fine when we add the superstar who plays wide 🙂

Micky,
Have you watched the whole match?
dandan
“Say a silent prayer tomorrow for all those football fans, who will turn the Solitaire on their screens at work off, and slide in and out of News Now”
Look, I know this is not your time of day as you’re probably out annoying fish, or chasing dogs across your farm, but would it be fair to say that you don’t exactly rush down on Christmas morning to see if Santa.s been? 🙂
Chas,
I’ve done bitesize, as well as extended highlights, and will do the full 90 later on.
Savouring it 🙂
I just looked at the extended highlights.
Lovely, though I wish there’d be an option to have crowd noise only.
Still nothing.
Has dandan got some acreage?
Chas
Would you say that Flamini now constitutes quality cover for Arteta?
I listened to the game on the radio, and he sounded mighty impressive. If so, I’d now be very happy with just the one quality signing for the wide berth.
Really see no reason for a keeper. It takes a while to get that vital understanding between back three (2 cb’s and gk), and as a GK, Sz is only approaching his best years.
Chas
Either acreage, or he chases his hounds around neighbouring flower beds in his 4×4.
Obviously, I prefer the latter option 🙂
Re: Still Nothing ROLF
Micky,
I was very impressed by Flamini.
I assumed he would have lost some of his bite and vigour 5 years down the line but he looks as fit as a whippet/pitbull cross. Very different from Arteta but possibly just as effective.
Morning all, glad to see the glow has lasted….was very impressed with that performance and Kelsey and Wally glhave said total commitment, it was a game when we wouldn’t have been able to get the result if anyone had dropped a level or was not 100% prepared to work hard. Everyone defended well, everyone worked hard, no one complained. That’s a result of a good team spirit.
How’s the fitness regime going?
Are you down to your fighting weight yet?
Surfing every day of the summer must be rather good for your stamina, musculature and flexibility (broken bones aside 🙂 )
Morning GIE,
That bit after Szczesny saved from Defoe and 5 or 6 Arsenal players went to block the follow up shot. Superb.
Many ROLFs
Fighting weight? No. Fitness? Well, must be doing something, and flexibility? Again, must be, although every single morning something else aches. Autumn Swells just around the corner, and yesterday it was very noticeable. You’re lying there staring at a 6′ wall.
Have you seen anyone using the jet powered boards Micky?
Apparently can be used to get out past the waves and also to catch the waves without paddling, seems an ideal way to surf 🙂

Noisy surfboards – I can’t think of any better way to ruin the experience.
7.46 Hahahahahaha – this is f@#king awesome.
no respected, nothing
I got up a few times at night to check, waste of time
i hope Bale is a flop
A Spurs fan told me in July that he heard from the top that Bale is going nowhere.
I asked him if he is confident enough of them to promise to wear an Arsenal shirt for a week if Bale goes.
He said he’d rather cut his arm off.
Feck, I don’t like the sight of blood, but a bet is a bet. I am going to get the knife ready
Happy this morning, evonne?
If we do get Ozil or one of these RM players, given that they’ve all clearly said they don’t want to leave, how do we as Arsenal fans feel about getting in players who might not really want to play for us?
Last night I think we saw the difference between a group of players who simply wouldn’t countenance losing and another who didn’t quite care as much.
njstone9,
Signing Ozil would be awful and totally destroy team morale. I hope we stick with just Flamini and Sanogo. 🙂
You are 100% right about the spuds compared to us yesterday. Perhaps it is a leetle bit risky to buy 7 new players for £110 million in one window.
Let me put it this way Respected -I am greedy and winning one game is not enough for me 🙂 but had we lost it would be enough for me to feel suicidal. So on a whole it was a terrific result 🙂 I love being a Gunner
Told my mum that we won, but it was bloody hard. She said that’s great, more the reason to be happy. Winning an easy game is not fun. Sometimes she is right
Take each moment as it comes and enjoy it while you can.
Bask in the joy but don’t wallow in the misery.
A simple but effective way to live your life.
I am basking, but I would bask even more if we signed a striker.
Alan Stubbs talking on BBC talking about his cancer fight. The initial drug test was positive, which lead to more tests, which revealed cancer.
Morning All,
Evonne. If we only won one game, it would be the one we just won. Be happy 🙂
NJ. You make a good point abut team morale and that is why Arsenal haven’t bought a Billy Big Bollocks since Charlie Nicholas. (though TH14 turned into one)
I know Raddy 🙂 I was thinking to myself – would I prefer a trophy this season or another win over the neighbours? But like I said, I am greedy, both would do nicely 🙂
Mind you, it is simple, really – Kelsey doesn’t watch the game = we win. i think he should do the honourable thing and never watch another game
BR,
What’s your other Billy Big Bollocks phrase? I can never remember it.
Rasp didn’t watch either.
Exile
Wow. Petrol tank strapped to your back? Crikey, those aren’t surf boards in the pic, they are aircraft carriers 🙂
chas. Jack the Peanut
It was a phrase I picked up when working in Petticoat Lane market in the East End many years ago
Haha. I’ve no idea why I find it so funny.
My favourite moment apart from the goal was Cazorla’s brilliantly inventive free kick when he sidefooted the ball under a leaping Tottenham wall, just missing the goal. Lloris was nowhere near the ball.
It would have made a fantastic goal and Santi was the only player on the pitch who could have conceived it
Back to the motorized board.
Is Exile saying: “I’ve met Didit, and can see there is no way he leaps the waves like a salmon. Help is at hand” 🙂
Motning Raddy.
Damn that result was big. Imagine having to dwell on a loss to that lot for two weeks. I reckon Levy and AVB will be sitting there this morning thinking “bloody hell, we need to get out there and spend some money. FB’s, Creative Mid, Wide Boy and a Striker urgently”.
Raddy
Saw that on Iplayer this morning. Brilliant as you say. His first Free Kick flew over the wall. Next one, as you say, and the Spud Wall all did the little group jump, and under their little booties it flew.
Micky it was more talking of facing the 6ft and greater autumn and winter swells….i found paddling out against 3ft’ers hard enough on a training board.
🙂 They must be thinking they haven’t spent enough to replace that awful squad they had last year.
This is funny, well not really funny because the sentiment is awful but ………… instant karma springs to mind

Morning all
Loving how many spuds I’m going to have to bump into today 🙂
Sadly the carpenter has already cried off 😦
Perhaps the “surprise” could be Cesc Fabregas returning? I mean now that Flamini is back…?
yeah, and Dennis Bergkamp too, wake up Rob 🙂
Lets hope this one gets on NewsNow
……………New Post …………………
Hello everyone,
Great win, crossing fingers on the final TW day.
If you haven’t watched this http://player.arsenal.com/home/player/3957-tottenham-h-highlights, go to Arsenalplayer and enjoy. 🙂
One thing struck me while watching this though. At 11:59, one can see a fist-pumping, obviously delighted Wenger heading back to the bench to shake hands with his assistant Bould. Bould appeared in the frame two seconds later, looking absolutely stone faced, and Wenger immediately dropped his smiles too. Does the man never smile? 🙂
David Ornstein, BBC Sport OZIL TO ARSENAL
“Arsenal have agreed a 50m euros deal with Real Madrid to sign Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil.
“The 24-year-old has agreed personal terms and will now undergo a medical.
“The medical will take place in Germany, where Ozil is on international duty.”
Ornstein is usually the one in the know at the BBC, but I haven’t seen anything else yet.
🙂
