Arsenal Arsenal Open Day

Good Morning “Arsenal Arsenal” Blog World.

You will all have noticed how totally insufferable it is having ten long days in an Arsenal Matchless World.

What can be done? I am not suggesting that we on this site are alone, or indeed, that a problem exists. We are all Arsenal Addicts and we like our daily fix, but I am wondering to myself what a blog is about, and is there “another way”, even if only during these dark days.

Let’s look at the facts.

Football is the arena, and Arsenal is the specialized subject.

Blogworld is International, and covers all time zones.

Even with a topic covered by a daily post, debate can quickly switch to a different subject.

Could individuals register a post/topic at any time of day or night, and how could this work?

Is a more interactive site a possibility?

Are there ideas out there that people would like to see implemented. The site gets many hits from people that don’t post, and perhaps there is a reason for this. Could potential posters be put off by the cosy nature of a small group of regulars?

Perhaps today we could throw open the doors, and invite ideas?

What would you like this site to be, for you?

Morning Micky, for me this site is perfect as it is 😀

I find with multi threaded sites the community nature and feel dissipates as comments are spread over more than one post a day (especially on sites where they have more than one columnist).

Although Maybe we could have a page where the old news whinges can go….ie one for Highest Ticket Prices in The World, or Board only interested in taking money etc. Perhaps as soon as this is picked up in a comment the comment and commentator are taken to the page and their comments are added to the “wall of bore” and get to see the evidence as to why they are wrong 😀

Actually there is one thing i would change, the posters that go into hiding when Peaches asks politely for post ideas. This is an open forum, and most articles are considered for posting. There is no agenda on this site, there is little moderation. If you have something to get off your chest go ahead and write it down and send it to us……then you won’t have to get bored of hearing from people me trying to fill the space with something to get us started.

And the regular viewers who don’t comment, feel free to add your views to the discussion, even though there are a group of regulars here most new commenters are welcomed into the community, some people who might be considered part of the regulars have only been posting for 6 months or less, and certainly were not around on day one of foundation (myself included).

    There you go GiE,
On the one hand the site is “perfect”, then immediately you’re off like a turd of hurtles making perfectly reasonable alternative suggestions 🙂

Micky 1799 views yesterday on Raddy’s post, the site as a whole got 2,841 views from 1,854 different visitors yesterday.

Busiest day this week was my OT Rescue Post, which got 3962 visitors (4960 views) but only 87 comments!

On Average we get 3500 hits per day, but average comments is about 100.

    Morning all.

Indeed it is quiet for us and I couldn’t be bothered to watch City v barnsley so tuned over to the rugby ireland v France.
Now I am not a rugby fan and am not offay with the rules but found it quite unusual that play coninued while a player who seemed out for the count was being treated by two medical staff for several minutes whilst still in the middle of the pitch and in fact one or two players actually bumped into the attending medical staff.

Could that apply in football ?

Cesc, any further comments will be binned.

It took me so long to type this you all moved to a new post 🙂

    Great post Raddy!

I’ll share a (not very good and long) hairdressers joke

A crimper is doing a client and he asks the usual question “where are you going on your holidays?”

The client says I’m going to Rome.

Oh really how are you getting there?

    I’m flying BA

Why are you going on BA they are rubbish, all the planes are old and the staff are miserable you should have gone on Alitalia.

    Where are you staying?

I’m staying at the imperial hotel

Not that shithole, It’s an absolute dump and their staff make BA staff look good. I would have stayed at the intercontinental.

Why are you going to Rome anyway?

I want to see the Pope

What a waste of time, You’ll be standing with 2 million other people and he’ll be a speck in the distance. You must be mad if you think you’ll actually see the Pope.

The hairdresser finished her hair and she left.

Six weeks later the client comes back in, the hairdresser is doing her hair and remembers her holiday

You were going to Rome last time I saw you how bad was BA?

Well actually when I got to Heathrow they put me on a brand spanking new plane and because they’d over booked they upgraded me to first. I had a gorgeous steward looking after me. It was the best flying experience I’ve ever had.

Oh really I bet the Imperial was a dump though.

Well actually it’s had a 70 million refit, It’s like a palace and when I got there they’d also overbooked so they gave me the presidential suite. They also gave me free meals and treated me like a princess. I felt so special.

I bet you didn’t see the Pope though

Well actually I was walking past the Vatican and I was stopped by two Swiss guards. They explained that the Pope always gives a private audience to one ordinary person every morning. They asked me if I’d be that person.

    So what happened?

Well they took me to a small room and asked me to kneel on a small red cushion. Then after a while the Pope came in. He walked over to me and looked down

    Really? What did he say

He said, Who did your hair it looks fucking terrible?

I was just about to say Micky that Peaches and Rasp deserve very special praise for keeping this site going for no reward….especially getting match reports.

As regards comments and logging in you only need to do that if you have a gravatar, andif you have one of them you are probably keen enough not to be put off by logins.

It is really boring without a game although I did enjoy Michael Jackson getting sent off and everything that followed. Apparently arsenal are playing a friendly in Hanoi in July. I’m definitely going to that. The game on Wednesday should be interesting as we’ve got nothing to lose really.

  16. macgooner's avatar macgooner says:

    Hi All,
I am new to this group and am a close friend of ‘dandan’s’ Brother who, sadly is not too well at the moment. This past weekend he was entertained at our home in Somerset, even though he’s a spud (!!!) and I am sure it made him feel better (and me physically sick!!) when the Spuds took the points. But if it helps him get better then it would have been a happy sacrifice.
As for me I am a Silver Member at AFC and have supported the gunners since the age of 7 (in 1954) – and been to Home games in every season since I started. This season is my ‘S’ season having been to the matches v. Sunderland, Southampton, Swansea and Stoke! For those of you who listen to it, I am a regular ‘caller’ to the Arsenal Fans forum on Monday nights on Arsenal.com with raving Gooner, Tom Watt.
My view on things currently? I’m not sure where I stand with AW, Whilst having huge respect and appreciation of what he has done for our club, currently I find him HUGELY frustrating and annoying and his stubbornness unbearable. I feel he/we are at the stage where we need to change the playing style (every team who plays us knows what they will get). Whilst being the first to acknowledge his achievements at N5, I feel that we are in need of fresh ideas and maybe 1 or 2 assistants to Arsene to help ‘spread the load’ and inject some new ideas and if AW doesn’t want that then I am afraid I back the call for a change of Manager. One thing is certain we can’t go on as we are – in a decreasing spiral, season after season. Somebody described Arsenal last week as ‘spineless’ and what they meant by that was weakness in the Goalkeeper, centre backs, defensive Midfielder and a recognised world class striker – positions right through the CENTRE (ie Spine) of the team. Have to say I agree – our ‘powder puff’ defending has let us down time and again, we just don’t seem to have a strong ‘no nonsense’ centre back in the club and their weakness in the air both in ours – and opponents – penalty areas is embarassing. The midfield just needs that strong holding player and it would be WORLD class. As for the front runners Podolski is disappointing – goes missing too often – Giroud although a tireless worker needs to improve technically. Theo by and large has done well and maybe that Top striker being signed in the summer will be the making of him next term.
As I see things now with the club boasting a fat Bank balance there is NO EXCUSE for not doing what is needed in the Summer, and if you don’t do it Messr Wenger, the fans will react by voting ‘with their feet’ and the 60,000 attendances may be missing. from what I hear there is already serious unrest amongst Club Level and Season Ticket Holders not to mention the other fans who pay by the match, in the wake of the teams ‘under performance’ this season, so beware Arsene patience is wearing thin. You can’t live on past Laurels. For at least 5 of the last 8 trophyless seasons the team has been in decline and this can’t be allowed to go on. So do what is necessary AW and get us back on track. Your failure to do that may well result in a change at the helm – and don’t be surprised if the majority of that pressure comes from the fans, after all every dog has his day.

    WOMAN’S DIARY

    22 Sept 2012 Saturday

Saw him in the evening and he was acting really strangely.

I’d been shopping in the afternoon with the girls
and was a bit late meeting him, thought it might be that.

The bar was really crowded and loud,
so I suggested we go somewhere quieter to talk.

He was still very subdued and distracted
so I suggested we went somewhere nice to eat.

All through dinner he just didn’t seem himself
    – he hardly laughed and didn’t seem to be
paying any attention to me or to what I was saying,
I just knew that something was wrong.

He dropped me back home and I wondered
if he was going to come in,
    He hesitated but followed.

I asked him what was wrong,
but he just half shook his head and turned the television on.

After about ten minutes of silence I said that I was going upstairs to bed,
I put my arms around him and told him that I loved him deeply,
He just gave a sigh and a sad sort of smile.

He didn’t follow me up immediately but came up later and,
to my surprise, we made love
    – but he still seemed distant and a bit cold.

I cried myself to sleep –
I think he’s planning to leave me –
    maybe he’s found someone else.

Morning all, thanks for the post and the ideas Micky. It would be great if we could make the site more interactive – but unfortunately the WordPress format isn’t that flexible.

As for a topic for discussion, how about the admission by AVB that he would have instructed Bale to collect a yellow card had he not been booked for diving should attract very severe punishment from the FA …….It was reported as follows: “ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS admitted he would have asked Gareth Bale to get a DELIBERATE yellow card if he had not been booked for diving.”……

So its not bad enough that Bale has picked up the most bookings for diving in the history of the prem, but somehow it is OK for the manager to instruct him to cheat!

Difficult to suggest changes, however well meant, without sounding critical, but from a purely selfish point of view, I think the site works very well.

The policy adopted by AA having a welcoming open policy towards ‘authors’ usually means there is a great variety and great quality in the Posts.

The point of a Post, is to act as a focal point, and the real business of the blog is done when bloggers get going and the chat goes wherever circumstances takes it.

If there is a shortage of posts on any given day(s), what is the problem in letting those who just want to chat (blog) carry on doing so until a Post does become available?

    In particular, ‘Post Match’ reports simply need to be labelled as such, and should just ask the simple question in the headline;
“What Did You Make of That?”.

Answers will soon be forthcoming! 🙂

  23. Morning all

What a lovely surprise and you left the kitchen tidy too 😉 xxxx

    A hearty welcome to macgooner.

I feel a little smothered by the lack of consistency in the team’s performances. I’m not too bothered about winning trophies as there are only a few to compete for but I have always had a feeling that something exciting would happen in a game which I find I have less and less.

Actually that’s not entirely true because I did still leap to my feet when we scored last Sunday and I did still think we would score again. If we score early against Bayern, I will be thinking we can turn this around so I am willing to believe. There I turned that gloomy thought around, proper gooner me 🙂

    Hi Macgooner,
Without being too nosey, do you train up to games, and from which station.
I make six or seven games, and leap aboard the Paddington train at Tiverton.

  25. Gööner In Exile's avatar Gooner In Exile says:

Welcome mac, and thanks El Tel.

Mac whilst I sympathise I think the 5 years decline mentioned in your last paragraph is a little harsh.

For me Emirates stadium move and what followed in the immediate aftermath, selling off some family gold (bronze Adebayor) for inflated fees was necessary and welcome given the tough economic climate surrounding the move.

For what it’s worth I think Wenger was still close to performing miracles with the team, up until 2010/11, the season we were in 4 competitions in February and left with slim hopes if winning the PL by March, although it could have still been so if we had found some of that spine to which you refer.

The next two seasons (the last two) have seen us lose our better players, players given the opportunity by Arsene to impress who the decided to go home or that our money did not fulfil their desire. And it is hard to disagree that we have been in decline, I think in 2010-11 we were do very close, and when the BoD needed to back Arsene and show some courage in securing the talent we had they took the money still concerned about our meagre commercial income and no guaranteed future TV deal, with the added complications of a takeover to boot.

Lets remember Arsene likes wage parity in the squad but he does not set the level at which it is paid, that is down to the Board, and increasing turnovers secured and possible absence from the CL will require some hard speculation to get us back to the top table.

Should they choose not to, it won’t change my support for the team/club.

    Good morning to you all,

Welcome macgooner, another long time supporter and older than me 😉

With regards to a daily post I believe we have had this discussion before and some of the other very well established Arsenal sites do not have a new post every day.

If we want to keep it simple in weeks like the one ahead of us why not just put up a headline post with the date i.e. Monday 11th.March on AA and underneath just let anyone open a discussion or two about our thoughts concerning any aspect of the club.

We are not in the freddie starr ate my hamster type of blog

Here’s a thought we are one of only 2 PL clubs that are practically completely owned by 2 people., the other being West Ham.

  29. Big Raddy's avatar Big Raddy says:

As one of the regular writers on the blog, I am quite content to continue providing posts. It doesn’t seem too great a chore to spend 45 mins (appr) thinking about something as wonderful and diverting as Arsenal and I have rarely felt forced into writing.

Of course, it would be great if more names were added to the Blogroll. Even better would be if those who have written a post start to contribute more regularly – One post does not maketh a Blog.

Essentially, what is wrong with what we have? Until Rasp & Peaches make the decision they have had enough, then the blog works.

  30. Big Raddy's avatar Big Raddy says:

MacGooner. Welcome. It is always great to read comments from old hands. My first games were the Joe Baker, Geoff Strong, George Eastham team.

Happy Days. Unsuccessul but very happy!

  31. macgooner's avatar macgooner says:

GIL, yes I agree with your points but remember, the CLUB claimed the move to the new Stadium would enable them to compete more. Now as they were – on the pitch – already competing (CL Final at end of last season at Highbury) this can only mean Financially.
In recent years we have seen top class players leave in Cesc and RVP – and you could say Cole, TH14 and RP7 (I didn’t see Ade, Clichy Song, and Sulky Nasri as top class) . Sadly we didn’t adequately replace them. If you look at AW’s centre back signings over the years Sol and Kolo stand out. The others are, for me , very disappointing – Stepanovs, Cygan, Sylvestre, Squillaci, Senderos. Add to this our current 3 Centre Backs on which, in my view, the Jury is still out plus the on loan Djorou. Serious question marks over a manager who is supposed to recognise real talent, but seems to have a ‘blind spot’ when making judgements on Defensive players. If we are to build in the summer by making a few top class signings a lot of the ‘debris’ needs to be cleared out – Bendtner, Djourou, Chamakh, Manone, Flapianski, Denilson, Santos, Park & Arshavin (sadly). What damage must paying all this ‘dead wood’ be doing to the clubs finances? With this money freed up we could afford Ronaldo or Rooney (well, maybe). Talking of top class players being sold off. There’s talk of Torres leaving Chelsea for 15-20 million, now i’d go for him – a player, for once with PL experience, something we hardly ever get!
So, we are off to Bayern on Wednesday. What happens there? what strength team will we field? I’ll be happy to give it a go and see what happens if we can score first, it may make a very interesting evening. Really, I suppose the odds are against us, but then again they were against us at Anfield in ’89 too!……..oh, but hang on a minute that team had my favourite ingredient Spine and fight – not sure this lot have that in the same measures, but I will be VERY happy to be wrong.

  32. GunnerN5's avatar GunnerN5 says:

    Good day from Canada.

I am in the group of people that, look forward to and mostly, enjoy reading a daily post and the reason why my suggestion of a daily topic was put forward was in an attempt to take the pressure, for a daily post, off of both Rasp and Peaches.

Being a stats person I just looked back at the posts for 2013 and here is what I found.

20 different writers wrote 69 posts.

    1 wrote 16
    1 wrote 12
    1 wrote 7
    2 wrote 6
    1 wrote 4
    1 wrote 3
    2 wrote 2
    11 wrote 1

It’s pretty obvious that Big Raddy tops the list followed by Rocky they both write terrific articles and accounted for 40% of the total posts, 7 more of us wrote 45% and the single posters accounted for the final 15%.

So we all owe a big debt of gratitude to Big Raddy and Rocky for helping to satisfy our desire to read and talk about the club we all love.

We can repay them, (and Peaches and Rasp) by writing more frequently, for instance if each of the 20 writers had each written just one more post then Peaches would have 20 articles in the vault to choose from………sound pretty simple to this blogger.

    Sheepy,

As I’m retired I obviously have more time available to me, but you would be surprised at just how little.

I don’t consider myself to be an accomplished writer, unlike several of our authors so I simply decide on a theme, write a few lines and keep it in draft form until I get another spark of inspiration – the spark is typically caused by a few glasses of Shiraz.

I’ve got several in draft right now so I’d better get into the red wine and see what happens – you see I can always find a good reason for a few drinks and if my wife complains I simply blame it on AA.

  36. Janman's avatar Janman says:

Views on the site from an outsider. Business commitments do not allow me to post very often but I enjoy reading the site on my travels. Mainly good daily posts but I do have the feeling the site is a bit clickish between the AA regulars and some regulars seem to get a little defensive over certain topics! Sometimes the site gets a little too personal amongst the regulars and the topic drifts away from football. Depending on the time of day that you log on, there could be a completely different subject matter being discussed from earlier posts so unless you are on full time it is very easy to lose track of topic matters. However, with that said I truly believe it is a great Arsenal blog run by some devoted people. There is always room for improvement but no matter what you do it wont please everyone.

  37. GunnerN5's avatar GunnerN5 says:

    Janman,

    That’s a fine summation.

It would be wonderful if folks, like yourself, with the ability to phrase their thoughts so well could find the time to write a post.

    Cheers.

  38. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

My humble suggestion regards match reports.

Why not just ask regulars (regular readers as well as contributors) to commit in advance to writing a particular match report.

We could do it one month in advance – for example, we list all the games for April and seek volunteers in advance.

That way the volunteer is watching the game knowing they will have to do the report, and having put aside time to do so.

As always, the type of report would be up to the author – a few lines, just some player ratings or the ‘full works.’

  39. Janman's avatar Janman says:

Thanks GunnerN5. Unfortunately my business commitments and schedule do not allow me to have time for that. An actual post is not so time consuming but if you write a post you need to have the time to answer the responses. I am currently in Berlin for two more days and then off to New York for another 3 days before returning home. As I said, just a few views on the site from me but I truly do admire the authors who spend the time to make this site a success.

You mention that the site is a bit clicksh, but that is the case in many sites were one has a hard core amount of posters who post nearly every day and we do purposely drift off subject just to lighten the mood and many have now meet up at games and have become Arsenal buddies.
Every new contributer is welcomed, which is not the case on many sites and all are invited to write a post which shows we are a friendly but sometimes oddball lot 🙂

Fans are angry they are embarrassed unless you can capture that you will continue losing bloggers no one cares! You and your moronic clique need to remember that its the club that needs the fans not the other way around. The fans dont need to get behind the club thats why they pay, the club needs to get behind the fans and ensure they are providing value for their money. This is a great site BUT there is a feeling that a clique dominates the dialogue and if one dares to confront anyone one of them, it can lead to a sort of cyber-bullying from that same clique. That said, the idea of having a more open forum is great. I write articles for a few Arsenal websites and being an overseas senior Gooner with experience in officiating and managing Football in North America , while also having lived in Europe,Mexico and the Middle East, often gives me a perspective and point of view that differs significantly from the UK mentality.
The strength of this site is its diversity of, yet respect for, honest and civilized dialogue and controversial opinions. The only thing lacking is a dictionary for some of the terms the regulars use on this site….as they seem to be wither Aussies, Welsh or from God knows where:)

  50. Well said wee
This is a great site BUT there is a feeling that a clique dominates the dialogue and if one dares to confront anyone one of them, it can lead to a sort of cyber-bullying from that same clique.

…and yet there is cyber-bullying at the same time?

I have never known anyone to be bullied on AA.
Morons who come on to cause arguments get short shrift but surely that’s how it should be?
Do a lot of people have persecution complexes? A much better analysis of the situation in my opinion.

People disagree with each other but I’m not sure about bullying unless someone comes on being offensive or does not want to engage in dialogue at all (I’m thinking of someone like Ash Hole who just kept writing the same points at great length time after time without showing any interest in engaging with others’ points of view. A bit like sitting on a bus next to a loony with a megaphone).

Mallard. Forgot that. Thursday is the new Tues/Weds 🙂

WD/SH. Cliques? Is this the new word for friends? Some of us have been blogging together for more than 5 years and we do so every day. We try to be inclusive but inevitably we build up in-jokes and language which we find amusing.

If a Clique is having a strong bond with the people we blog with on a daily basis …. then guilty as charged.

If you are inferring that AA is a clique and deliberately exclusive then I will have to ask you to step outside, because we do everything we can to promote inclusivity.

As to being even handed with opposing viewpoints – where else would Spectrum get a headline post?

  57. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

The Dippers second goal was caused by a keeper many have complained used as an example of a player Wenger should have signed, and to be fair I don’t think being beaten at his near post for the first covered himself in much glory. And a backwards/sideways across the back ball horror pass too.

All keepers have off days, ours has had a few too many this season, but doesn’t mean anyone we sign would be blemish free. I mean anyone watching Mignolet against QPR yesterday wouldn’t believe it’s the same keeper we need 20 shots on target to beat.

Then ManUre throw away a two goal lead against Chelsea, something that you normally hear Fergie wouldn’t let happen….yet he did.

Sometimes you have to accept that some things are uncontrollable in football. Chelsea with an extra game and Spuds pegged back are all good things for us.

On views of the clique here on AA, to respond as others have would appear cliquey so I’m distancing myself from their responses 😀

As far as cliques go, any group of human beings will subdivide according to mutual interests. The fact that some of the regulars have opposing views does not mean we are not mates and therefore I’d like to know what kind of ‘clique’ it is that offends?

The point of this blog is that the one thing that brings us together is the ARSENAL and the need for somewhere to discuss our obsession without malice and bullying.

  90. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

I’ve been blogging on AA for close to 3 years now and I most certainly don’t feel like an “insider”.

In the early days I certainly felt picked on by a select group that would parrot their mate’s thoughts, I complained about that aspect of AA both on the blog and in private emails. Thankfully 2 of the major offenders no longer blog on a regular basis so the “noise” has lessened.

I learned to temper down a lot of my inner thoughts – so therefore my comments are more muted and therefore less expressive/combative.

All in all I blog on AA with a lot of respect for most and choose to ignore others, but net net I choose to blog here as it’s the best and most well administered/managed blog I’ve found in over 20 years.

There are quite a number of offensive and rude comments in trash from ash cole (and his various other pseudonyms). He claims to have been invited o AA by WeeDonald. I don’t believe him as his whole agenda is based around trying to wind us up and undermine our belief in Arsenal.

He really is a pathetic individual, what kind of person would spend so much time with the sole aim of aggravating others?

I make no apology for banning his type and shall continue to do so.

  104. weedonald's avatar weedonald says:

By the way what is a sheep hagger? Ergo, the dictionary of AA terms I recommended for this site. Don’t forget about 25% of your readership never lived in the UK.

  105. weedonald's avatar weedonald says:

Rasp…..I post on a number of blogs and Ash Cole (also known by a half dozen pseudonyms) is probably an adolescent, gomeless Chav who gets his (or her) thrills by getting flamed by people like you and me. I never invited him to come here and excrete his offal but i did remind him that he couldn’t get away with what DKD (his current mentor) allows him to do on his website, on AA or Untold. Maybe I am partly culpable for mentioning this and other top class sites, but he’d have slithered onto AA or UA sooner than later. He is also banned on UA and LadyArse just recently….you did your webmaster duties and saved us all from having to flame that cretin to toast.

  106. weedonald's avatar weedonald says:

Mallard, that has to be a Jack Russel (shortie)….great photo…we lost ours after 16 years…….brings back great memories!

  107. Rasp's avatar Rasp says:

No problem weedonald, I don’t associate anything he writes with your passionate support of the arsenal, I’m sure you’ve summed him up accurately

  108. weedonald's avatar weedonald says:

Perhaps the sense of cliquishness I occasionally get from AA is from a few on this site being so familiar with each other and using many context specific ¨in¨ comments, as well as the rather aggressive responses some use when a contrary point of view is expressed? I do recognize the same politely aggressive ripostes between the old-timers as well as a necessary collective ganging up on anyone who goes over the line (like Ash Cole).

  109. Janman's avatar Janman says:

On the clique issue, I made my comments earlier. I tend to lean towards GN5 post @5.51 as a fairer view but I do understand the fact that the founder members would naturally stick together a little more plus a lot of them meet up for games. I believe I read somewhere in an older post way back when that this site was actually formed from personnel that were booted off of LG and therefore wanted to form an excellent blog like this where you can in fact discuss things and actually believe in our football club without having to be humiliated for making such comments on LG. A little clickish on AA for sure but actually fully understandable. Sheep Hagger I too have had some of my comments ignored but I don’t make anything out of it at least I was able to air my opinion without being called an AKB or any sort of other stupid comment.

  110. Rasp's avatar Rasp says:

I too lost my 17 year old jack Russell just before Christmas. They’re fantastic intelligent and faithful dogs, I’ll get another one when I have the lifestyle to accommodate his/her needs

  111. Rasp's avatar Rasp says:

I agree with some of that weedonald, but as others have said, several of the regulars are diametrically opposed on issues concerning the Arsenal and so I don’t really accept that there is any ‘ganging up on’ in terms of opinion, but maybe just on attitude towards a fellow Arsenal supporter. We do make this clear in ‘About AA’

I’m very happy Janman has taken the time to comment today. No doubt he would feel more acceptance if he was able to be a regular contributor and we knew more about him.

I’m afraid the clique thing suggests we are attempting to provide a BBC type public service whereas we are just trying to create an accomodating forum for like minded gooners.

  116. Janman's avatar Janman says:

Rasp. It should not matter if you post once a day, once a week or every five minutes. This is a football blog and should not have anything to do with “acceptance” I for example just like to blog once in a while when time permits. I do not do it to make friends and I certainly have no intent to pass on any of my private life details, that for me is not what blogging is about, no offense intended. To me I just want to pass on once in a while my opinions on AFC that’s it, nothing more. So I don’t agree that someone needs to be accepted! Sorry in advance if I have misunderstood your comment.

  117. Rasp's avatar Rasp says:

Hi sheepy, I have a dislike for the kennel club and see it as an organisation that had until recently been responsible for a lot of suffering in dogs. Jack Russels (named after the rev John Russel as I’m sure you know) were not recognized as a breed for many years due to their snobbery, but at least they don’t suffer from the congenital deformities which bight so many other so called pure breeds which have a gene pool that is way too small.

  118. Ohh such power rasp was u a Dalek in a previous life

  121. Rasp's avatar Rasp says:

Hi Janman, that’s absolutely fine, we’re happy for you to blog in any capacity you choose. Your comments are well reasoned and presented in a way so as to avoid antagonising fellow supporters. I was just making the point that just because some of us have become friends even though we have never met, it doesn’t mean we are not accepting of new bloggers.

I tend to like people with a bit of character and personality and we’ve got plenty of those on the site 🙄

  122. Rasp's avatar Rasp says:

Sheepy, I don’t know about power – I’m just a bit passionate about some things and encouraging the breeding dogs with certain unnatural traits that lead to the suffering is a bit bloody stupid if you ask me – but the kennel club has improved a lot in recent years.

  123. Janman's avatar Janman says:

Thanks Rasp but just to clarify I have never commented that this site is not receptive to new bloggers. As I have said before, while I find some of you to be closer knit, it takes nothing away from the fact that this is an honest and open blog site. I mean it when I say thank you to all the authors who take the time to contribute. Unfortunately my business and constant traveling simply does not allow for me to become a regular.

  124. Rasp's avatar Rasp says:

Great stuff Janman, please feel free to add your thoughts whenever you get the chance. We have really struggled for output recently, mainly because I think no-one wants to be negative but if we post anything positive we attract a lot ‘wake up and smell the coffee’ type responses and at this difficult time in our recent history, that is not helpful.

    cliques and been ignored??

it all started for me when i was at juniour school. i was never invited to parties or anything. Always the face at the window as all my classmates played ring a ring roses and enjoyed there cake and stupid party balloons

The boys never let me into there gangs and the girls were “urrrgh Terry”

It all came to a head a few years ago when i could no longer control my hatred for cliques and been ignored. i was with the Mrs at some stupid wedding of one of her work colleagues in which i knew no one. I never spoke to anyone all night, i certainly wasnt going to talk to the Mrs. Why should i?, she never speaks to me.

Anyway, when the Brides father got up to do his speech i could no longer contain myself. i steamed up to the head table and wrestled the mic of the fat tosser and manage to yell out “if you shits start playing ring a ring roses ime gona kill yer”

By this point the selfish gits proved there cliqueness and desire to ignore me by jumping me and dishing out a kicking, just like i used to get when i was at juniour school

I remeber waking up in a hospital, surrounded by a clique of Doctors and Nurses talking about me behind my back. I went mad, but when i tried to get to them i realised i was in a straight jacket. The last thing i remember was one of the back stabbing doctors injected me with some horrible with his big needle. hahahaha

  127. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT's avatar TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Of course Rasp. The regulars are bound to form bonds and build friendships, thats all part of the fun.

The important thing is that this “club” is open and inclusive. In other words a new poster can enjoy instant respect and with time develop bonds with other posters.

This site has that. Yes, it can seem a bit cliquey, but it is an open clique that can, if someone wishes, be joined.

I say to all new posters, post at will, its a great site.

    Cliques?

Very interesting discussion yesterday, which I regret missing.

Words can get mis-used, and I think ‘clique’ is one. Over time people (Oh, OK bloggers then) 🙂 get to know each other, and adjust their responses dependent on who makes a comment, or when responding to the other party.

Sometimes a blogger can make a bald statement, which, because the written word can be more easily misunderstood, can be taken as offensive or disrespectful.
However, if you know the blogger concerned, and see them as generally friendly and pleasant, the response is usually more tolerant, or an attempt to flesh out what was meant is the first response, rather than an aggressive or angry response.

That ‘relationship’ comes from knowing someone from chatting on the blogsite, and is closer to a social community response, rather than being cliquey.

Let’s face it, on blogs you can ‘meet’ people you would never normally get the opportunity to do so, and your life can be enriched, by becoming blogging friends, as a result.

I like to think I have met many friends on AA, and that is always expanding — so cliquey? No. 🙂

Come and join the AA gang! 😀

  140. Gööner In Exile's avatar Gooner In Exile says:

Countinho looks a bit of a player….as does Suarez this year, doesn’t make the latter likeable though.

Does anyone think Bale is likeable as a footballer/man, he is having a very good season but there seems very little humility about him. Maybe we are not best people to ask as he plays for that lot down the road, and I’m now trying to recall whether I have ever liked any of their players……not one springs to mind.
