We are still a few days away from the Leeds game and I don’t want to step on what will surely be another (auto paste here) splendid pre match from the master himself. But without wishing to step on toes I want to get some thoughts off my chest.
Having spent most of Christmas and New Year struggling to find the back of net I have started to change my mind about the importance of this game and who should be playing. Up until Monday I had reasonably assumed (and accepted the fact) that we would probably be giving opportunities to youngsters and squad players to get some game time.
But after 5 games in which we have only mustered 5 goals, the drought is concerning and could cause the green shoots of recovery seen since 1 September to wilt away again. Actually goals have dried up before this recent spell, since Wigan away we have only scored two goals on one occasion.
After Leeds we face a trip to Swansea who have the joint best home defence of all Premier League teams. Not the place to visit when we are misfiring.
Because of the above I am starting to think that maybe Monday is not the best time to play the youngsters and the squad, perhaps its time to send out the first team and tell them to fill their boots against what should be a very beatable opposition. If they can’t or don’t then it adds further weight to any arguments Wenger may or may not be having with the board about the need for some new signings.
I know there will be some who say we are approaching red zone and that the players cannot play every game and maybe that is true, but when a team is winning and playing well fitness becomes far less concerning. In January we have only 4 games including the FA Cup game, is it really a step too far to imagine that a player cannot play 4 games in 22 days. (Admittedly if we beat Leeds there will be another game to squeeze in).
So lets put the first eleven out especially Theo and AA or the Ox (Gervinho is unavailable due to the ACN) and tell them to run riot and grab as many goals as they can. Treat it like the first team game it should be. I know we have a lot of games this season, but their is something about the FA Cup that I don’t think we should dismiss too lightly, who knows maybe its this cup this year that helps us kick on, and at least with the final at the arse end of the season it means we can’t suffer a slump like we did last season from 1 March onwards if anything untoward happens in the final.

Arsenal News 24/7

I see what you’re saying GiE and largely agree, the possible fixture congestion is not an issue for us this month so I wouldn’t rest many first XI players; however Geronimo won’t be avialable for the same reason the Toures won’t be turning out for Arab Camel Shaggers FC against ManUre, namely the Ivory Coast FA pre ANC requirements.
Release the Ox I say !
Well that was an interesting thought to get off your manly chest GIE. 🙂
You got my attention and I was on the way to being convinced that we should say – to hell with it — and play a strong team, until I read “especially Theo and Gervinho and tell them to run riot and grab as many goals as they can.”
Isn’t that particular phrase a prose antonym? 🙂
[sorry Oz] 🙂
Here you go again, spouting your sh..e! What sort of team do you actually think you have there that can fill their boots and score hundreds of goals against a ‘very beatable team’. Leeds have not been playing particulary well recently and yes, you have to be the favourites, but this is exactly the sort of drivle that is keeping you out of the running for the Premiership. I mean, you are miles off the pace and have been embarassed on more than one occasion this season, so why go on as though you are a team of Pele’s? I will say this much, Leeds certainly have the players to hurt you if we can get them on the pitch in time. We may not have Mr Snodgrass fit in time and it is a shame as he for one is certainly capable of showing your SUPERSTARS how to play the wing. We do have others though that could well make you eat your words. I have nothing against the Arsenal unlike Scum and a few others, but this crap is just the sort of thing that really gets people up when you get stuffed.
Looking forward to a good, if one sided game!
On and On!
Welcome Deano, insightful comments there.
Spot on RA,
Gerv and Theo will not run riot against anyone.
GiE,
Interesting idea and well written. For me I would only risk Robin if AW knows 100% he has a quality replacement lined up, and that I doubt. Sadly.
Great post GiE, about an important topic 🙂 I tend to agree with you. Whatever Wenger decides to do will carry risks and fans will be disappointed if it does not work out. If we play our best possible team, we have the best chance of getting through in one go – as nobody wants to have to play a replay as well – but there is a risk of further injuries to key players. If our best possible team starts the game with an attitude of ‘let’s win this with as little effort as possible’ it could all backfire badly. Leeds have proven to be really up for these games (MU away and Arsenal away recently) and are no pushover. I rather have a fully motivated second string team against Leeds than our best team who are not fully up for it.
However, this is our most realistic chance of winning something this year, and after this round one of the Manc clubs will already be out, so I am with you: put out our best team, play with real conviction, score a few goals again, and sod the risks!
GIE. It is a good post that causes a response like Deano’s. Well played.
Deano, Imagine the situation was Leeds v Brentford (currently 8th one division down). Wouldn’t you fell confident?
Morning all, forgot Gerv was off (well I hoped he would try and put off leaving). Ox or Arsh then but it will undoubtedly be both.
Deano apologies for offending. You’ll note I said “should” not “are” or “will”, this is an Arsenal blog and I did not post this with any intention to belittle Leeds. As you say we have been embarrassed this season on occasion which for me is more reason to send out the first team rather than squad or youth. I want to progress in the competition and with the squad/youth disjointed performances we have seen this year I’d prefer to take it and Leeds a little more seriously.
We are in urgent need of another striker who can score goals. After 20 matches, we have only scored 36 goals, which is very low by our standard. Currently, only RVP is producing the goals and if he is injured, we would be in big trouble. Come on Wenger, sign Podolski!
Total,
I’m a massive fan of the FA Cup, but we have such a thin squad that risking injuries would be nuts. Much as I agree about the FAC being a good opportunity, I fall into the camp that 4th in the league is imperative. Therefore, for me the decision on team selection for Leeds rests entirely on whether we are strengthening this window or not.
Thanks all for comments.
I have to disappear for a while hopefully you have a good debate for me to come back to.
Thomas,
Sort of agree, but stats (oh yeah) would suggest we are in need of goal scoring wide boys and AM.
Morning GiE, great rant for a Friday – I hope you didn’t mind the little edit.
Your sentiment is spot on. Actually I’d lke to see Ramsey and Rosicky bag a couple of goals to bolster their confidence – Benayoun seems to be OK in that department. I want us to stay in the FA cup however many fixtures we have because we are still not functioning well as a unit at times.
Apparently we’ve already used more players than in the whole of last season.
Welcome Deano,
GiE is actually showing your team a lot of respect by suggesting we should put our best team out: not just for goal practice for a few of our misfiring wingers, but also with a hope to win the game:
‘Treat it like the first team game it should be. I know we have a lot of games this season, but their is something about the FA Cup that I don’t think we should dismiss too lightly…’
Nobody is underestimating Leeds potential to kick us out of the competition.
Maybe they aren’t scoring because they’re in the red zone. Give them some time off and the goals can start coming again.
Gerv is in Africa by Monday. v.P. is already off to the sunny part of the world by Monday.
We’ll see some changes but I hope we can keep some of the first team in there.
Nico Yennaris anyone? Arteta won’t play.
The rest is the usual suspects
TA. No way will Leeds beat us.
And whilst I fully appreciate the politeness and respect shown by AA’ers it should be remembered that we are talking of Dirty Leeds. Not some nice lower league club like Reading. No …. this is Leeds – the Millwall of the North.
This may give some insight into Monday’s post 😀
Jolly mike,
They don’t score when they are in the white/blue/pink/geen zone 😦
Raddy,
Might Billy Bremner and Norman Hunter be making an appearance?
Micky, that is an interesting one. A mate of mine – not an Arsenal fan – asked me the other day which of the two scenarios I would prefer:
1. Arsenal to finish in the top-4 but not winning the FA-cup
2. Arsenal to finish fifth, but winning the FA-cup this year
I am still not entirely sure, but I think I would go for option 2 this year. Winning something substantial would be really important for the ‘New Arsenal’ and a brilliant platform to start the next season full of confidence. Financially it would be a small disaster though. So not an easy one.
Micky. Once again you have read my mind.
Interesting question Total.
I have to go with 4th, but I do understand where you are coming from.
I don’t however understand the “New Arsenal” tag though. We should not be a side in transition, it should be a continual process of evolution.
Psychic, me is.
BR, I hope are right mate. What have Leeds to lose: they are the underdog and have beaten big teams before in FA-cup rounds, so they won’t lack confidence. I for one. see this as a 100 meter long banana-skin. But I am glad that a confident person like you is writing the pre-match report! 🙂
TA. AN interesting dilemna. Like you I would go for the cup win.
We can cope with not being in the CL (uncomfortable thought). Look at Liverpool – no CL for a few seasons but still manage to spend very big money. Suarez, Henderson, Downing and Carroll were all bought recently and all cost more than our most expensive player.
TMHT would say that this is a Double season so there is no need to ponder upon the question!
Micky, agreed: we should be, but we are not. For me, our team and style of play this year is very different from previous years. It really looks and feels ‘new’ to me.
BR, he would say this is a triple season! 🙂
Total,
Sadly, I agree, but unlike you, I don’t think it is for the better. I don’t relish going back to the “1-0 To The Arsenal” days, which is what I’m seeing.
I’ll stop here. Don’t want to “doom” until the window shuts!
Nah, CL over an FA cup win every day.
We need to maintain our status in Europe’s elite. We are seeded in the top group in the CL due to our record of qualification. The CL is still the Holy Grail and may one day be the basis of a European league that would take us out of the Premiership entirely.
BTW, I agree this Henry debacle is embarrassing. Our legal/contracts staff look pretty amateur, word has it that we could have signed Mata if they’d been on the ball. They also need to stop the PR boys bigging up signings when they still haven’t concluded negotiations.
Rasp, a good point, but we would not lose our seeding-status in one go, surely?
Micky, I and many other agree with you, but I do believe it is all just transitional: Arsene is laying the raw foudations this year and next year will start the interior designing! Unless he has had a personality transplant, that is! 🙂
Not for me GiE,
Squad is thin as it is without risking more injuries. Top 4 should be our priority this season, we need it to attract players.
I would play the likes of Rosicky, Benayoun, Ox, Miquel, Park, Coquelin, Arshavin etc. Will be tough for them as many changes usually results in a poor performance, but still lots of experience there. The only players I would start with is Theo who we need back to his best.
Exactly Raspers @ 10.48; I’ve been saying this for a few days now and I’d better not end up having to say “I told you so” – I hate being the guy who says that.
GIE, no need for apology’s as you seem to have a good thread here and I am happy to contribute. A few of the other comments here just back up my feelings though, that many of Arsenal’s fans can get very smug and over confident and appear that they just need to turn up to see a victory. Does this attitude rub off on the team per chance?
I have always admired the way that Arsenal have played the game, and indeed do not buy into this North-South thingy that some people blah on about. I would mush rather Arsenal beat the likes of Scum and many other northern teams. But in the last few years I have noticed a distinct lack of team spirit that very much used to be an Arsenal strength, and I am not even a supporter of them so I could be wrong.
Big Raddy, if we were playing Brentford at the moment I would, by no means, be as confident as you seem to think I would be. As you know, it wasn’t too long ago that Leeds were in your position and many lower division teams still relish playing against us and going for a scalp. This has made it very hard for the team, as we are often coming up against young players who are more than up for it, and work very hard to break down play, always hard to play against no matter who you are. Brentford also have one or two players that can play, Mike Grella for one is an ex Leeds player and a very skillfull one at that who I am sure would be well up for it.
As a team Leeds can beat anyone on their day, but I am sure that that can be said for many teams.
Just hope both teams give their all and the fans enjoy it. Good luck for the rest of the season, after Monday!
I would take 4th, but why not both? I think it’s a better chance of winning the FA Cup if our team is in the race for fourth. We are a confidence driven team. We always play at our best rifght after a goal. We always fall to pieces when our confidence is low. The system and player’s are based on confidence in every area.
I would play the second string team, simply because I think we’re just as likely to get a good performance out of them as we are the first team. Any players in the red zone should have a mid-winter break for 4-5 days in the Canaries sunshine and re-charge their batteries for the battles to come.
Winning any cup competition is too much about luck for the FA Cup to be a great chance of a trophy. Before we’ve even played in the 3rd round, I hasten to add.
I’d take 4th every season.
Chas, stop talking about mid winter sunshine breaks in the Canaries – I used to do that but haven’t been able to lately and am feeling suitably grumpy for that reason. 😦
Good stuff GiE, I still tend to feel we should put a team out were youngsters like the Ox and stiffs like Park get a game and thats what i think Wenger will do.
Deano, what ever anybody says the premeirship is missing Leeds. A great club with a splendid history and fantastic support. i hope you get back in the big time soon.
Jollym, good point about confidence. But if you HAD to chose what would it be: 4th or FA cup win/5th?
Strongest team for me. Remember last year at home to Leeds, they gave us a fright and should have won.
No matter how much we might or might not win in all competitions……..Wenger will NOT spend the money.
Go for 4th and FA Cup win for glory.
BTW Deano Grella is in my CM team.
Micky,
I am pretty sure that if Billy Bremner appeared for Leeds it would be a sensation as he died in 1997.
Raddy & TA,
Our time is coming very soon. In the next few years some fans will be dissapointed when the club dosnt win more than one major trophy. The future is so unbearably exciting, that i find it hard to contain myself.
4th. More players who would want to play for us. As easy as that. That is the way forward. Last FA Cup victory was fantastic! I’d love to have that feeling again, but the 4th is our way forward. For sure!
Terry, we need you on AA like salt on chips! May I recommend you to read ‘The unbearable lightness of being’ by Milan Kundera, so you can prepare yourself for the imminent future of glory.
MerryT,
If your time is coming and you cannot contain yourself have you tried superglue?
Try the 3 step cure.
1) a drop for your syrup; 2) a drop for your hands; and 3) a large drop for your todger. That should keep you in check!! 🙂
JollyM, now that is the question: is it our way forward to finish fourth again for CL qualification, or does this team need to win something to make a step upwards?
AW will play a second string side no doubt about it. Guaranteed strarters are Almunia, Miquel, Yennaris, Squillaci, Park and Benny I’d say
TA,
Going back to your 10.33, could there not be an option 3: finish 4th this season- win nothing- but win trophies next season due to being able to attract the quality we need?
Sometimes it’s easy to choose the quick fix ie getting any old trophy in the cabinet, but maybe we just need to be a little more patient (difficult, I know, after the past 5/6 years) to see the side that can win more than just the odd domestic cup.
TA,
I am in the “4th in the League” camp.
The last time we won the FA Cup, the final itself was a dire game and presaged the start of the current ‘no-win era’.
That last FA Cup win did not do us any good – so, 4th = CL = attract new players = more money to buy said new players! 🙂
FGG, of course you are right. But when my mate put the hypothetical question to me, there was no guaranteed to win throphies in the next season if we finished fourth this season. Otherwise the choice would have been dead easy 🙂
Thanks TA, sounds like i might need some preparation.
Redders, the syrup is certainly not adverse to a drop of a glue but i doubt even cement could keep my over curious todger in check. hahahaha.
I’m just pleased we’re not playing Barnsley or Reading. No seriously Deano welcome to the site. One thing is for sure is that your fans were outstanding last season, our ground actually had an atmosphere for once. You, Newcastle and Liverpool must be the best away fans in the country for the amount of grounds you fill yet are never anywhere near winning anything, just sheer loyalty.
RA 🙂 cannot agree on the FA did not/will not do us any good stance. Even if we win it this year with dire football and a goal scored by Theo Walcott with his left buttock, it would mean a lot to our team, the fans and going forward.
Do we really need to play in the CL to attract the sort of players Arsene usually buys?
I love the CL, it is my favourite competition by far, but winning the FA-cup would be very special too. It’s a hard choice for me.
RA. 11:40
No matter how much money Wenger has at his disposal he will not spend it.
Frugel Frenchman.
GIE, The day should not drift away with mention of the fine title to this mornings post.
CHas. Another winning vid. When men were men.
TA,
Of course!
I think the point is though that our chances of silverware are going to be greatly improved next season if we can stay fit, get RvP to sign and bring in a striker, attacking midfielder/winger and maybe goalkeeper.
This season is definately a transition after losing Cesc and Nasri, and finishing top 4 would be brilliant considering where we were in August.
It almost feels like that last week at work before you head off on a 3 week holiday. It’s easy to sit back and relax but it makes life so much easier if you knuckle down and tie up the loose ends so you don’t come back to a pile of paperwork!
Goods things are coming for this team of we can tie up our loose ends:
Finish 4th
Sign RvP
Sign a couple of quality players
FGG
I agree that good things are coming for this team, but in the short term you could say the same for all the teams in the top 6. Apart from Man$ity the rest of us are probably just 3 players away from being a top top side.
It will be interesting to see how Man$ity get on without YaYa because he is their rock and leader.
We just need a second striker to take the weight of RVP and a quality midfielder to take the weight of ARS.
Like TMHT said the other day, every point is precious.
Very interesting discussion piece GIE, you seem to find this writing game easy. I like you believe AW will put out a strong team, Including TH for a while
It is interesting that people always talk of “Norman bites yer legs Hunter and Billie Bremner as being the hard men, when referring to that 70s Leeds team. When the real deal was the clever and skilful, Johnny Giles who was as dirty as they come and hard as nails. HE was the archetypal iron fist in a velvet glove, but what a player. What would AW give to have him today?
On the 4th vs Trophy it’s a difficult balance. I am not in the chase silverware camp and was worried about the way we went about getting the CC this year. However as others have said there are some restless fans (much quieter now but still bubbling under the surface ready to strike at the next opportunity).
A trophy at least takes away that media easy statement of trophy less for x years.
I agree with Rasp i’d be happy to win CL and see whoever finishes 4th (if we don’t make top 4) cry in their beer….let’s hope it’s Spuds in that scenario 🙂
Is TH even available!? Any news?
TH14 has signed FGG
I would rather finish 5th and win the FA Cup. The simple reason been that when we win the Champions League this season we automaticly qualify as holders. We will therefore complete a massive double and at the same time have an added bonus of denying the team who comes fourth a place, now that would be very sweet, specialy if its our friends down the road.
Excuse me Mr Red Butt. Its TH12 if you please 🙂
GiE, ‘I’d be happy to win CL’ – I would not mind that either!
The reason I would like Arsenal to win something is less to do with the media, although it would help to keep them quiet for a while and stop annoying the sh*t out of us, but I feel these group of players need to win a decent cup (which the CC is not, agreed). RvP, Arteta, Arshavin, Vermaelen, Sagna, Rosicky all need to win something: it would do them a world of good at this stage of their footy careers. For the likes of Ramsey, Wilshere, Szczesny, Theo, Song etc it is also really important: it would build their confidence and experience levels significantly. Plus, I beleive that all our players are more likely to stay with us once they have tasted the sweet, syrupy taste of Arsenal success. The fans would also become a bit less restless. That’s why I hope we’ll take the game serious on Monday and play to win.
As Thierry has signed we must be pretty close to selling or loaning someone out.
Shirt TH12 is technically correct Dandan —- oh, OK then — quite correct — but I do not think I will ever forget the years he gave us in that 14 shirt!! 🙂
A personal dedication to our Titti!! 🙂
Desire for nothing known in my maturer years,
When Joy grew mad with awe, at counting future tears:
When, if my spirit’s sky was full of flashes warm,
I knew not whence they came, from sun or thunder-storm.
But first, a hush of peace–a soundless calm descends;
The struggle of distress and fierce impatience ends.
Mute music soothes my breast–unutter’d harmony
That I could never dream, till Earth was lost to me.
Then dawns the Invisible; the Unseen its truth reveals;
My outward sense is gone, my inward essence feels;
Its wings are almost free–its home, its harbour found,
Measuring the gulf, it stoops, and dares the final bound.
Thierry is home!!
I am old enough to remember some great matches/tussles between ourselves and Leeds in the early 70’s, real hard games that would make the likes of todays players wince and they would end up 7 v 7 these days.
That Leeds side could play though and tey had some great players such as; Reaney, Jones, Clarke and Lorimer to name but a few. They could also put it about if needed mind, they were not known as Dirty Leeds for nothing.
I would go for mixed side of youth and experience on Monday as Leeds will be no pushovers and will battle, just like they did last year. I am going to miss the game as I shall be up in Scotland all week, but the atmosphere should be cracking once again.
Welcome Deano by the way.
great post GiE, with the ones you’ve churned out is this the first of ‘the chronicles of GiE’?
@ TA
fourth for me, largely because RVP’s contract still isn’t sorted. I’d be gutted if he didn’t re-sign because he wanted to play champions league football elsewhere. As others have also stated attracting players has alot to do with it also, liverpool didn’t suffer because debt doesn’t worry them. We pay small wages so the promise of CL football helps persuade players.
@ TMHT
haha clever i’d take the CL and FA wins also. Thank you liverpool for that possible outcome!
@ Evonne
if i’m your virtual son you owe me alot of christmas, bday, easter, graduation, and just coz presents.
(200 (bday) + 200 (xmas) + 25 (easter) * 24 (years old) = $10200
year 7 graduation = $50
year 12 graduation = a car = $3000
uni graduation = words of wisdom
tooth fairy = 20 baby teeth = $1 a tooth = $20
just coz presents = $100 a year = $2400
grand total = $15670 owing
now that can be payed via paypal, but i’ll also accept a cheque.
in terms of team selection. Has the santos injury taught us nothing? Send out the kids/reserves! Last year we suffered because the reserves didn’t want it as much e.g bendtner, denilson, eboue, vela, ect. However this group does, they have something to prove!
Send out miquel, park, yennaris (want to see him in action again), ryo, fabs, rosicky, the ox, ozyakup
wish we have frimpong, lansbury, afobe, bartley, aneke, and campbell able to play also
from arsene:
“[I will play] a strong side, a normal side,” he told Arsenal Player.
“Maybe one or two will be rested, but apart from that I think we will still have Marouane Chamakh.
“Robin van Persie will certainly be rested for this game. We will hopefully have Chamakh available, [Ju-Young] Park available.
“Gervinho will maybe miss the game because they [the Ivory Coast players] have to turn up 14 days before the [Africa Cup of Nations] tournament starts.”
Robin has gone on holiday. Great post, shame Deano didn’t stay.
True GM, we could have got some useful info on Leeds from Deano, although his opening line accusing GiE of “spouting your shite” seemed a bit strong to me.
arsen stated that he doesn’t know if Gervinho will play. But surely it’s a definite no because yaya and kolo had their requests for extension turned down
Where has all this “4th or FA Cup” nonsense come from? Come on you lot, we can finish higher than 4th. Chelsea and even United are there for the taking. Spurs, perhaps not, and City, definitely not. But we still have it within us to do better than 4th, and we should be ambitous about that.
The FA Cup? Sure, if we get a crack at that, lovely. Not exactly a priority though.
As for the approach to the line-up, I’m with Exile on playing some of those first-choicers who haven’t been firing on all cylinders recently. But others need a rest (Arteta and van Persie being the obvious ones). The defence will just be whoever is still standing, and Henry will make an emotional return to the red-and-white alongside one of Park and Chamakh plus Theo. In midfield, I’d just put Rosicky in Arteta’s place.
Having been a student in Leeds, I’m fond of LUFC, but then I wasn’t a fan in the early 70s, when a lot of the anti-Leeds feeling really got going. Very sad to see a great club laid low by the destructive regime of Peter Ridsdale (“Living the dream”, what a wanker he is) – we may weigh up FA Cups against a CL spot; but imagine what it’s like for Leeds fans, knowing that the price their club has paid for one CL Semi-Final in the middle of 2 or 3 good seasons has been years in the wilderness and financial chaos. And now they’re owned by Ken Bates and his tax-dodging offshore companies. Very sad. But I still hope we cane them on Monday, obviously.
Hi 26, I went to Leeds Uni as well, probably a few years before you thuogh being an old git and all that.
Nice post by the way Exile, I always like to read your stuff.
If I read a manc blog talking about us as a “fill your boots team” I’d say a lot worse than that. (I’m banned from most manc sites though)
Chary: I was 1988 to 1992 (a year of that being in the frozen wastelands of Canada). Loved it there, great city, great county, had some tip-top times there. I worked at The Faversham for two years if you remember it, and was known by the bouncers who worked there as the “Fucking Cockney”. Affectionately of course.
Oh right 26, I was the gone the year before, I was there 84-87 and I had a friend from Surrey who went to Elland Road as a “home supporter” to catch a few games(I think his first team was the Chavs).
Of course he learnt very quickly never to open his mouth during the game as the natives would have kicked his hesd in for being ” a soft, southern bastard”.
The Faversham rings a bell, is that the one up by Headingley on the Otley Way?
My sone was at Leeds metropolitan. He said yorkshiremen are c**ts but they hav a great D+B scene. Gervinho definitely can’t play.
My Uni in Leeds was the Dragonara Hotel, whenever I was up there on business. Many a football man: John Motson, Franee Lee, Frank Worthington and his mole :to name a few would end up there. The bar was a rendezvous for after game gatherings with press, footballers and business patrons all mingling and chatting. Happy memories from a world long gone
Chary: Nope, it’s the one near Clarendon Road, just near the dental school. The Fav was a regular pre-club pub. Were you thinking of the Original Oak?
Could be 26, I remember some hardened bitter drinkers marvelling at the range and quality of the brews on offer there as well as the few medics/dentists who talked to me(as a mere engineer) arranging to meet at The Fav before the Medics Ball.
Tell me, you must have gone to Naffees(opposite the main entrance to the Campus) for a ruby after a hard nights boozing ?
Chary: Anyone who claims to have studied in Leeds but didn’t go to Nafees must be a suspected liar. Not exactly sophisticated food, but when you’ve got no cash, who cares?
26, there was a desperate place right opposite the Parkinson Bulding called the Islamabad – an all night curry house with well dodgy food and often plenty of Bendtner style brawls.
Ah, the memories.
GM, dare I ask, what is the “D & B scene” ? 😳
Drum and base? I.e., pretty much Chary’s idea of musical hell on earth.
Drum and bass! Apols!!!
Chary, D & B stand for Drum and Bass and my son loves it. Its a sort of Jamaican Reggae meets dance music.
You’re right there 26, no wonder I didn’t know what it meant – I feared it was a Collymore style “Dogging & Bondage scene” sort of thing, yuckk!!
Dandan,
I once stayed in the Leeds Hilton, formerly the Dragonara, for one night because the Marriott, around the corner, where I usually stayed had screwed up my booking.
The noise of the trains late at night and early in the morning rounding the bend for Leeds Station, at the back of the hotel, nearly drove me gaga.
That’s why it was a stay up all night drinking hole. 🙂
Which, of course, I did, before giving a lecture next morning at 10 a.m., — and you are right about the interesting clientele! 🙂
Ah Brigham, that sounds even worse the more you describe it.
It reminds me of the toime I was shanghia’d to a “Soul weekender” at Camber Sands in the late 80’s.
I hated it and got drunk for as much of that weekend as I could.
Truly hell on earth.
Chary, hahahaha, a dogging and bondage scene combned, now theres a thought.
Yeah, that would make the Swingers scene appear quite tame in comparison, Mr Syrup man. 🙂
Drum&Bass is certainly not music hell. It is genius when done well. I recommend anyone listen to a bit of Roni Size (his actual stuff not DJing). You’ve seen nothing in drumming terms until you watch a D&B drummer play at 140-160bpm. Saw Roni Size and his band live once drums and bass both played live with the great man on keyboards and various vocalists and MCs….awesome. Followed by Chicane for a nice chill out after.
But if Ronis a bit heavy for you then I suggest DJ Marky who brings samba rhythmns that can’t fail to make you move.
My music tastes are diverse to say the least from Swing to Indie to Hardhouse via Rock, Soul, Grime and Metal (altho not the Death variety that I can’t get).
Sounds great GiE, but Charys swinger club sounds a lot more appealing. hahaha.
Good to see I was missed and I have to say that some of you guys are the most accomodating forum writers I have come across. One of you mentioned that I could maybe give some low down on the mighty whites, well without professing to know anything regarding SG’s gameplan, here goes. Ross Mc Cormack on his day can be a real handfull and certainly knows where the net is. Luciano Bechio is a big strong lad more in the fashion of a typical English CF, not Argentinian type, but he has a good first touch and can hold the ball up well and bring players in, heads the ball well also but has been far from his best of late. Aidy white is a young FB with loads of pace and bags of potential and works the overlap well when not on the back foot. CB’s could be a problem as most are injured and we only have 2 fit. Tom Lees is a big lad who watches the ball well and has good potential but very inexperienced as yet. Darren O Dea is on loan from Celtic and is steady but not exceptional. Johny Howson our Captain and CM star is a very good box to box player but is out injured which is a loss. Adam Clayton on his day is a very good young midfielder from Man City who can strike from distance and has a good touch, again a little out of sorts of late. Ramon Nunez is a very skillfull Honduran international who got player of the tournament at the Copa America. Still getting used to English game but with the ball at his feet is a good lad.
Andros Townsend on loan from Spurs at the mo seems a good young winger with pace and I am sure He will be up for it if picked. Somma, Snoddgrass, Kisnorbo, and some others are all injured so maybe Mikael Forssell could get a game and you know all about him I am sure.
Hope this provides some interest and my apologies for my initial anger at the post.
RA there was to the best of my memory no Marriot in those days, the dragon was where all the stars stayed. and the best hotel in town.
Funny I dont recall the trains it seems those sleeping draughts they had on tap worked. 🙂
Actually Franny Lee knocked his beer over one night as he was demonstrating how he hd scored, unfortunately i was the receiver of the contents. Still it got me included into a conversation and an interesting set of people for the night.
GiE, if you like pacey drums you should listen to Reign in Blood by Slayer, Dave Lombardo’s playing on that averages at 220 bpm.
Thanks Deano, ime sure both teams will produce a good account of themselves.
I have never been to Leeds and I have absolutely no intention of ever doing so. Life is way to short. All that D & B’ing. Yuk.
Any news on our expensive AM?
too
Dandan,
I think you will find the Dragonara is no more. It was re-named the Leeds Hilton.
As I recall you had to take either the lift or an escalator from street level up to the reception. When you came out of the hotel and turned left, the ‘iron’ railway bridge, which crossed above the road, was perhaps 150 yards up the road towards the city centre.
I say this in case there was another Dragonara – but I don’t think so.
CharyB, I was ‘loosely’ involved with giving tax advice on the Armoury Museum that was built on the banks of the canal in Leeds. A lot of the weapons, Henry VIII’s cod pieces and armour were transferred there from the Tower of London Museum.
Was that building project after you left Leeds Uni? I am trying to get an idea of when I was up there — probably in the mid 90’s — but as an accounting tart for hire it all blends into one. 🙂
As a student in Leeds you must have been to the famous Chinese Jumbo restaurant in Vicar’s Lane? Bit of a dump, but great food!
Reign in Blood by Slayer. Oh Chary, you’re not getting better are you?
Deano, cheers for the summary – sounds like your lot have as many injuries as ours, which takes some doing. And I hadn’t realsied Forssell was at Elland Road now – dangerous striker in his day, perhaps he’s still got it.
Micky, you need to escape the west country more often – I’m going to have you kidnapped, put in a van to Leeds and taken on a tour of all the city’s D&B haunts. That’ll learn ya!
Red Arse is right the dragaonara had a casino and then became a shitty Hilton and one did overlook the railway station.Breakfast was dried up shite placed outside your door. I am talking about the late eighties, and then again in the early nineties there was a marriott in the centre of town. right, thats settled then 😉
Thanks for clarifying that Kelsey! 🙂
The Marriott was in Trevelyan Square just off Boar lane – and very nice. No D@ Bollix tho! 🙄
True Mdi89 – I should really prefer their more slower, complex stuff, like South of Heaven and God Hates us all.
Redders, I can’t remember the renovation project on the Armoury and soon after I left Leeds Uni I gave up the excitement of Engineering for the lure of bean counting.
That Chinese reataurant was certainly mentioned by flat mates as a venue to eat at, but I’ve never liked chinese food especially and would always suggest a pizza/ruby/mexican for post drinking food.
I knew leeds like the back of my hand in those days. All our manufacturing was done there and it had it’s no go areas even then. On a personal level I hate leeds and their football so called supporters for a very very good reason.
Chary,
Can I assume God Hates Us All is one of their more cerebral works.
Thanx CharyB,
Had they added the ‘shooting’ arcade to the Leeds United stadium complex when you were there?
I went with a gang of guys I worked with up there – you know, it was a black out zone hung with black drapes, stairs and cubby holes etc and you are each given a gun (like a Paint gun) and ‘scored’ by hitting a receiver hung around each participants’ neck.
You can imagine what it was like as we were all plastered. I spent most of the time snogging with a lovely (female) accountant I had just met and who simply liked my accent — I was putting on a Texan drawl.
Bit awkward the next morning when I returned to my New Yawk clip! 🙂
as to the game GIE sums it up well. In any case we are the gunners and at the moment to many are firing blanks. A goal or two from any of the forwards bar RVP would be a welcome boost but I still think it will be a hard game as AW does not always allow the gifted players the freedom of the pitch. We may pass ourselves into oblivioin one day, as regardless of the cup game we need reinforcements of quality to maintain a top 4 place.
Strange that Sagna will play with screws in his foot, Walcott already has plates in his shoulders and the armoury is getter battered 🙂
I think Elland Road was still in it’s quite basic persona back then Redders, the mid 80’s.
My London accent was an absolute death wish back then, like I said earlier, all southerners were seen as fair game for a kicking by the locals let alone as good for getting a bit of tail. 😳
Absolutely Mdi89 – Slayer got their first Grammy nomination for a track off of GHUA, a definite improvement on the predecessor, Diabolus in Musica.
Deano thanks for the summary, we are a pretty friendly bunch here, and we favour discussion over bile and one liners. And as you can see proper words! 😀
My only visits to Leeds (for football) was a while back. We parked at the ground but then my Mum and Dad decided (as we got there early) to take a bus into the City.
When looking to get a bus back i asked a driver where would we get a bus back to Elland Road. He took one look at my red and white shirt and said I wouldn’t bother if you want to live.
I have never been so scared getting on the bus in all my life after his comment.
This was compounded by the driver of the bus we did get decided that there was far too much traffic going dow to Elland Road so dropped us off at the arse end of an industrial estate. 😀
hahaha, excellent Redders. I knew a girl about 25 years ago who went out with this American bloke called Mario. Met him may times and of course he had an American accent, or so we thought. Transpired that after a couple of years of going out with him she found out hes name was realy Larry and he was from elephant & castle (born and bred). The weird thing was she stayed with him and i heard on the grapevine they got married and are still together. Strange world we live in.
Kelsey,
Two quality reinforcements (I agree). Which positions?
The beatles are doing a reunion tour.
Drum and bass of course.
GM,
🙂
GM. Top work 😀
I loved D & B when it first came out (mid-90’s?). Went to see early Goldie and Ronnie Size gigs and …. this may be hard to believe, I even owned a D&B record label ( which went to the wall in a haze of dope smoke).
Still enjoy the early stuff but not heard anything new in years. Anyone have recommendations?
GM,
Reminds me of a question put to Jones and Simenon about a Clash Revival. “‘ave to be a duet” was the reply.
aha, 26 is back. sulking even longer than me! 26 – you know you can no longer live without Micky and Kelsey, Chas and RA, Rocky and Raddy, Chary and Sharkey,Herb and GN5,Peaches and Rasp, TA and me, and the list goes on 🙂
Deano – this is a unique blog, full of nutcases in a nicest possible way.
sow/podolski/girould (1 of these 3 will do just fine thanks)
Afellay (barca have wasted this mans talents, along with a couple of injuries). As far as i’m concerned he is better than hazard! yet he’d cost a quarter of the price.
2 quality replacements!
Raddy,
Owned a label! What an international man of mystery you are.
Raddy
I don’t know much about D+B. My older son likes it. My younger son like obscure indie which is more to my taste.
“Ah Evonne, what a pleasant surprise, I have been expecting you” in the voice of Bloefeld (sp?)
Micky hard question to answer.come season end i doubt we will still have Arshavin, Rosicky, bendtner (for sure)benayoun is on loan, Park (can’t work that signing out) and then there are the players going into the last year of their contract.
the ox needs to feature soon so that AW then knows if he is ready or do we buy.
Personally I still think we need a winger and an attacker to supliment RVp who can both score regularly.
But Terry, did the fake yank keep the accent??
Good. Oz is here.
A goalscoring world class brilliant AM imperative, then a goalscoring genius who can play anywhere along the front, to fill in for Robin when needed, and then provide and score goals from wide. Total cost abot £50m, and I could raise the cash in about ten minutes.
Don’t laugh but i would love Torres at Arsenal.i wanted him when he became available originally but he went to liverpool. chelsea may cut there losss with him and the deadwood would more than pay his transfer, but not sure abour wages. it is a bit of a dream but a fit Torres would suit our system but PSg and malaga the money clubs most probably will go for him.but if his form persists as being fairly average we might have a chance.
Micky Sell: AA,Bendy,Diaby,Vela,MC,Fabianski,Mannone,Denilson,Park, Eastmond
into squad:
afobe, campbell, lansbury, bartley, goetze, podolski, aneke, henderson, a good keeper who will settle for second fiddle, djourou’s confidence, consistency for theo, a new body for gibbs, a contract for RVP
all in all = domination of football
You and me both, Kelsey. Torres is still quality. But with Anelka gone and Drogba probably going, I think he’ll stay at the Bridge, at least till the summer.
agree kelsey, that’d be a dream move. I’ve wanted him at arsenal ever since i bought him in fifa 2004. Wasn’t it reported that we made a bid but benitez offered more so he went to them. I said a few years ago to cash in on the injury prone RVP and bring him in, oh how i was wrong but he would fit nicely into our squad. If he can available for 15-18 million you would be crazy not to. A world class player is in there somewhere
evonne, sulk, moi??? I just threw myself into my work!
Oh and I tried a return to 5 a side last night – didn’t go well, the knee is still a pile of rubbish and I’m hobbling around today. How does one age gracefully while still wanting to play lots of sport despite physical deterioration?
Oz,
There are names we could add to the Out list if we needed more cash beyong my raffle. Of course I would welcome Podolski, but he is far from versatile and therefore not my choice. Goetze or similar a must for me with AR and JW behind. We would have the best midfield for the next seven years.
Kelsey,
Always been a massive Torres fan. Would absolutely suit our style.
Nice post GiE,
Personally I`d play the Reserve`s/youngter`s and possibly the Ladies ( theres not much they haven`t won this season ), we can do without any silly injuries if were going to try and get 4th. Playing Verm` and Santos in that last CL game, well my gasted is still flabbered ( makes my point that most AAers on here could`ve picked a more sensible team ).
TA,
I`d pick 4th over cup win every time ( unless Haircules can promise CL final win! ).
As for Leeds, I love them, I dont take my dog anywhere without one, especially Tesco`s at lunch time`s, all that dogging in the diabled spaces, the smell of burning wheelchair tyre`s, bloody WI meeting`s, I shall report them one day !
i have to disagree micky. Podolski can play centrally or down the left. He’s done it for a long time in internationals while klose was playing centrally. He was banging them in there aswel
Oz,
Therein lies the problem. Totally one footed. Not the complete footballer we need, unless you are offering me three new boys.
Deano,
e va va vonne failed to mention the two biggest nutcase`s on here, Terry and his syrup !
By the way i am mad but evonne is a nutter 😉
Top headline today too, whoever came up with it.
Over and out chums, catch you later.
Sorry, I should add, Terry is currently going through a very tough divorce settlement ,with his syrup. A transplant has been cited as the cause of the break up, bloody slapper !
people say the same about RVP Micky.
Ok i’ll give you:
Torres – 15million
Podolski – 15million
Goetze – 25/30 million
come on one splurge couldn’t hurt anyone arsene
Oz. 3000 Aus dollars for a car? Wouldn’t buy you a bicycle here. A young man of your tincture should start with a little Mazda MX-5 and work up. Evonne can afford it …..
Micky. There is much you don’t know. Hopefully we will find the time to spend more than a brief lunch together and I can tell you about when I was sent by the Natural History Museum to the jungles of Nigeria and the deserts of Niger to discover new breeds of freshwater fish!! Not kidding …. I have had a life of strange but interesting jobs.
GLIC. You are a naughty naughty boy.
Oz,
Goetze or similar No1. We cannot play our current system effectively. I think that’s why AW was so pissed off after the summer, as he knew that losing Cesc and Nasri meant a season of muddling through with the likes of AR and Ros in the AM role.
Must go. Nite all.
BR,
Blimey I’m astonnished we never met!
Nite.
Night Micky.
I cannot agree with your synopsis. I think AW was pissed off because he thought he had signed Mata and our back room boys effed it up
Been on the Motorway`s again today, it`s where I have most of my sensible thought`s. Them Matrix sign`s, a couple make me giggle, There are the safety one`s, “Dont Drink and Drive, Have a rest if your tired etc” all good safety advise, but two made me laugh in the Summer, ” be carefull whilst towing “, which is good advise, so i make sure any hitch hiker i pick up, knows how to untie and tie up shoelaces, thats the dodgy part of towing , getting your shoe `s back on whilst driving !.
My favourite, ” Dont hog the middle lane “, well you`ve all seen the “blue rinse`s” on the Motorway, It`s like their at Alton Tower`s on a white knuckle rollercoaster ride, gripped for life steering wheel, chin on the dashboard, doing 50mph !. I think them signs should say what they really mean. ” KEEP OF THE EFFING MOTORWAY, YOU OLD BITCH “!
Raddy while not strictly DnB Chase and Status are worth a listen I think you could say a cross between Faithless/Prodigy/MassiveAttack/RoniSize and with a dose of Rap and Indie thrown in.
I can always stick it in Dropbox and give you a download link if you want to have a listen.
Raddy

GliC and Terry, and Ginga and LB, and OZ – I didn’t forget, but Peaches has arrived on my doorstep and I had to get my priorities right 🙂
I heard that Cornwall. The syrup demands an apology hahaha.
26, he dropped the accent once found out, i heard the girls brother gave him a pasting….and he squealed in cockney.
Arsenes_Eyes Arsene’s Eyes
Will I be watching #LFC vs #Oldham? Absolutely. I, like everyone else, am interested to witness Mr Carroll ‘finding his level’. #AFC
I`m just wondering, are there any Doctor`s on AA ?. I ask because of our addiction to Arsenal. I know this may sound silly but when our evonne was a bit under the weather the other day, It saddened me, I knew the feeling, sometimes the depression is only lifted with the next win , a draw is half as bad and doesn`t help much.
So if one of us went to the Doctor`s ( the Manu game would be a good example) and told him/her, ” I`m depressed and need time off, would they treat us or would they point to the door and say dont waste my time ?. Is Arsenal an illness , when it`s going wrong ?, if so, there must be (until this season) Spud supporters who have been ill all their lives !. The thing is ,it doesn`t get any easier the older you get, I`m getting worse, only my humour keeps me sane, the medicine of a win would be nice though !.
Micky ( i think it was you, you get the blame anyway ) was right were Arsenalolic`s.
It goes without saying ,this site is of great help. 🙂
…and Dandan, and GM and Irish, Oz and Pat, all my favourite bloggers 🙂
GM – you are becoming a Twitter king 🙂 Is it addictive?
off to watch Pool
Sorry syrup, keep this a secret between me and you, but I see terry off gallivanting with his transplant !
Thats exactly what ime planning to do tonight. If they find out about each other i will be a cue ball in the morning.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEs silly bindippers
GM. Is that Finest who used to be Finestcuts on LG? Haven’t seen him in ages, Good bloke and a loss to the blogs
The football is on Setanta Ireland. as I type the scousers have scored 😦
He’s in Poland at the moment Raddy. Very nice bloke. He goes on LG very occasionally. The way LG has gone he doesn’t really fit there now. he’d be a lot better off on here. Not sure why he doesn’t come on here.
GM – of course pool scored, they’ve put a very strong squad against Oldham
evonne twitter is very addictive and informative. very funny too.
http://thefcf.co.uk/2011/12/06/panini-arsenal-1986-87/
GM – the addictive part worries me, I get hooked very quickly. If there were drugs when I was growing up I have no doubt I’d be a junkie
I don’t feel like I need to be on it all the time evonne and I’m a very addictive personality 🙂
Dodgy pen for the thieving scousers
people on twitter say rooney is leaving manscum
Be careful Michael 🙂
GM – I have heard that rumour on the radio a couple of days ago. Where would he go? Oh no, not to Shite Heart Lane, surely no
Talking of twitter I’m on there – yet to make 200 tweets but all followers welcome ! 🙂
Who are you on as GM ?
GM. That’s the guy. As you say he would fit well on here.
Rooney is too stupid too fit into a team outside of England, so where could he go? MC? Chelsea? Or how about Arsenal? He would be brilliant alongside RvP but could we take having such a piece of work at THOF?
Chary
Funnily enough I’m on as goonermichael 🙂
I’d rather not have him at Arsenal.
I just followed you Chary
Oi, no need to be cheeky GM ! (Gotcha – have sent a follow request))
So no mystery what I am on as.
I’d take Rooney in a heartbeat. Main reason Arsene could make him a better footballer.
I’d also take Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield (5 more goals tonight) hopefully loaning them Afobe last year will help.
Also I’d loan him back to them for the rest of the season to get them promotion, maybe give them Afobe too to work on their partnership.
Chary. What is muthufunglers name on LG?
Everyone will want Rhodes I imagine.
It’s Dennisdamenace GM.
GiE – that game Rhodes is scoring in right now is 5 minutes walk from where I live and am now.

Raddy, GiE wash you dirty mouths out.

GM – that guy is Franchise, Peachy and me used to see him at the Tavern the season before the last.
Shall I run down to Adams Park and ask Rhodes to sign for us ?

GM 🙂 🙂 xx
I don’t know why I couldn’t remember that I’ve met him several times. Hope I’m not getting alzheimers like my mum (who died this morning unfortunately). I’ll try and find him. Last I heard he’d lost his older brother.
Michael – I am so sorry xx
Thanks chas
Thanks evonne. I think she’s better off but it’s still shit
GM. I am very sorry to read that. I wish you and your family long life.
My mother died just before Xmas (hence the lack of posts). She was 93 and died painlessly and in peace but even though it was expected, I miss her.
RT @johncrossmirror: Wenger says there is a chance Henry could still be at #afc for Champs League
Thanks Raddy. She was only 78 and had Alzheimers fo 10 years. I can remember her when she was ok now.
Sorry to hear about your loss too Raddy.
Thanks. Not something I would normally share on a blog.
As you said it was a blessing – Alzheimers is an absolute bastard of a disease.
It’s late to get philosophical, see you in the morrow.
Only popped on quickly after reading about your sad loss, GM.
My mum died in 1986, and it’s something that’s hard to legislate for, or come to terms with.
Condolenses, and best wishes to you and your family, GM.
Condolenses and best wishes to you too Raddy, literally just read your 9:54.
P.S. – Evonne, thanks for the mention earlier, it was very generous of you to include me among the esteemed AA company.
“Jordan Rhodes has scored more league goals in 70 minutes than Andy Carroll has in 23 games for LFC and Fernando Torres in 29 games for CFC.”
From twitter
Thanks Herb. As Raddy says Alzheimers is a bastard so it’s a release for her too.
GM, Raddy, really sorry to hear about the sad loss of both your mothers. Hope you’ll find the strength to cope with your enormous loss.
Thanks TA
GM, coincidentally I finished a really good fictional book this morning in which early Alzheimer is the main theme. It is indeed a bastard and the last ten years must have been really tough for you and your family.
Condolences to you both sad news.
GM, Raddy, many condolences – doesn’t matter how old they are, when loved ones go, it’s about as sad as it gets. Hope there are lots of good memories to cherish.
Rhodes looked sharp but has to be said that the defending was woeful from Wycombe!!!
You don’t score 33 in 29 without being a serious talent.
By all accounts him and Afobe made a good pairing at Huddersfield so would be good to see them together at the Emirates.
According to the radio Joe Jordan and Clive Allen were both at the game tonight so there is a queue forming already. We all know he has more chance of succeeding at THOF.
Clive Allen was there? That should rule Spurs out of the chase then.
sorry to hear BR and GM,my condolences to you both.
@ Evonne
cheers for the mention, like Herb has said it’s flattering to be in that list.
@ BR
that is a nice car, i’d definantly settle for that. Mine is more mad max interceptor though.
Isn’t inflation going mad in Oz? My sister in law just moved out there (her partner got job sponsorship) and reckons everything is more expensive than back here in the UK. Which never used to be the case.
Altho they did decide to live in Northshore which seems like a pretty pricey (posh) area.
Apparently so GiE, TA posted an article a month or so ago saying alot of people have moved back to England. The Mrs parents went to England for a few weeks and said everything is cheaper there, especially the beer.
Petrol, alcohol, gas, electricity have gone up quite alot
Gm, Raddy, ,I know ime mad but i would like to say some thing about you both if i may.
I lost my mum suddenly 12 months ago and i miss her terribly. The pain i felt and feel is horrible and hard to come to terms with. She died of a heart attack with no warning sings aged 68..
Raddy, i love your courage to post your views, you may not know this but your personality echos through this site. I missed you terribly when you did not post. It would be my privlege and pleasure to one day meet you and share a drink with you. Iam so sorry for your loss.
GM, You are simply a star on this blog To here of your loss saddens me deeply. You make this site shine with your evervesence.I am so sad and sorry fory your loss.
Please forgive me if i have spoken out of turn, but God bless you and your familys both..
I can only echo what has already been said to you my friends Raddy and GM. I lost both my parents within 3 years of each other and I was still in my twenties. That was a very long time ago, yet I am not ashamd to say that I still to this day miss them both very much.I suppose being an only child made it that much more difficult.
this is brilliant
great comment TMHT, sorry for your loss also
I haven’t seen Arshavin look as interested as this in ages.
Perhaps Titi can lift even him out of the doldrums.
Thank you all for your kind sentiments. They are much appreciated..
Terry @ 3:08 – proverbial Amen!
On BBC news this morning – Manure selling Shrek! Lovely, any upset over there is not a bad thing in my books.
On a lightert notes guys – have you heard that 40,000 women in UK have dodgy French tits?? So how many in total are not real???? That’s a shocker to me, but it will be to you boys when all the flat chested birds start appearing on the streets. Chas your Nigella including, they certainly don’t look real to me 🙂
Oz and Herb – silly boys, we are all important here, we are the Arsenal 🙂
evonne. What shocks me is that there are only 40,000!
MU will not sell Rooney. He is the only world class player they have and without him they would lose the huge media attention that follows him. They have no-one else who comes close.
After TH left we had RvP and JW to take up the media focus.
morning oz, chas, Raddy and evonne.
Twitter has it’s uses (I am robin’s big toe) but it is being abused to such an extent especially with any person in the limelight be it pollitician, actor, any celebrity and of course footballers.
Why would United sell Rooney now and who could afford him or even want a man who is a gutter snipe, in essence a gypsy of the lowest order. Football wise he can be outstanding but IMO it isn’t that he is earning an alleged 250K a week and therefore can do what he likes, he is just an illeterate granny shagging footballer who often disgraces the England shirt.
GM would say that in better words than I can and most probably more to the point 😉
Stand up tits, no thank you, i prefer the real thing though Raddy and GM who have both been married about ten times would be more of an authority than me on that. 🙂
Morning all,
Apparently there is a racial abuse from bin dipper’s supporter aimed toward Oldham Athletic’s Adeyemi in last night FA cup tie.
No wonder they supported Suarez 😉
Nike. Liverpool has always been a hotbed of racism. If you listen to John Barnes talk about his early days there it is shocking.
Incredibly it was in 1980 that Liverpool first had a black player on the pitch and he only played a couple of games.
kelsey. From your comment I would guess you are not a big Rooney fan 🙂
And as you rightly say, I have experience of “falsies” and very nice they are – if somewhat expensive and painful to put in. They give me more confidence when I enter a room but I am now worried they will leak and give me cancer.
I wonder if I can get a rebate to get them taken out?
There is no confirmation of anything yet, but listening on the radio Adyemi apparently broke down in tears at the time which is not good.
However a Gooner on twitter said that before we start throwing stones he would like to point out that the EDL were handing out leaflets to the Arsenal away fans at the Newcastle game. My only hope is they have nothing to do with our fans (I doubt it because we have a multicultural support more than most others home and away). Altho there is still the element of anti Semitic chants that are unnecessary.
morning all,
very well said kelsey, but there are a few teams that could afford him, perhaps an offer from man city (something to good to refuse could be on the cards). But as you say he will be irreplaceable.
Ideal situation, rooney goes to Man city. Dzeko gets pissed off at being behind him, mario, and aguero so he buggers off and walks into the emirates for a contract.
Whats this business about man city inquiring about wesley sneijder. How greedy are they, they already have silva for christs sake
GIE,,
There is a distinct difference between racism and anti semitism IMO.
indeed we at arsenal have the largest multicultural fan base in london.
i find the word yid, degogatory as do others and in my earlyy days the spurs where always called the lillywhites and to this day i don’t understand why the term “Yid Army”.exists. The biggest following of jewish support is in Manchester (combined clubs), then Leeds and then fairly equal between us and Spurs.
kelsey. I have never thought of that before. When did Spurs become the “Yids”?
My Spurs friends call themselves “Yiddos” despite the fact none of them are Jewish.
Strange

He had chosen football for a career I expect for the money, would be a shame if he were chased out before he can reach his potential By those viscous mindless illiterates
Mine are real btw 😆
