So three days of gloomy inquests have come and gone. It’s amazing how quickly hope turns to depression in the blogging world.
Leaving aside those sites that are used primarily by the doomers and verbal bovver boys to vent their spleen and whose anger is in many cases directed at clubs like the Arsenal. For them, it is simply a way to assuage the bile that chokes them, whilst they struggle to face the realities of a fast changing world they believe has no place for them.
Witness Rooney and his foul-mouthed rant at the cameras. He has everything that most young people could aspire to and yet still cannot handle the fires that consume him.
What chance then for those who really do have nothing, no job, no real role models, no hope or expectation of personal success? Those supporters whose standing among their peers, associates and indeed life in general, is dependent on the bragging rights and reflected glory provided by the achievements of their chosen football team. Remove that success and the result, as we have seen, is predictable and inevitable.
But even beyond that, the contributors to respected mainstream sites of which ours is one, struggle to hide the anger and frustration that has come bubbling to the surface of our red and white world. That corner of every fan’s mind that is never far from his thoughts as he lives his daily life, among commitments to family, job and himself has taken over in a sort of collective disappointment that is thrashing around looking for a scapegoat.
We failed to win a football match on Saturday. No, worse than that, our heroes didn’t perform, they let us down. But did they? We all have bad days at the office, why not footballers? Do we expect those that support us to react so angrily when we have a bad day? No of course not, so why so hard on the team? Does the booing solve the problems? Does nagging solve yours? Again I suspect not.
The clouds are lifting. Spurs have been well beaten by Real Madrid and the man who did the damage was ex gunner Adebayor. How that man loves scoring against the spuds. How they will hate the fact that he put them out of the CL barring a miracle. Will they finish in the top four this season or is that one appearance in the champions league in fifty years and out again?
Chelsea and Utd have a very important first leg CL game tonight, they can’t both win. So one or the other is going to be feeling down by tomorrow. Will they raise themselves enough to bounce back for the weekend or maybe do an Arsenal and have an off day and re-open the title race? You see the imponderables have started again.
Football is like that, down one week, up the next. None of us knows what lies ahead, but the great guessing game keeps us fans hooked and we will be back, pumped up again next week, next month, next season.
Ah!! Next season, not so far away is it? A new transfer window awaits. Fact and speculation will soon become entwined as myriad players are named and shamed as likely ins and outs at clubs large and small.
But we at The Arsenal, what do we need? Well, a goalkeeper of course, goes without saying, but a back up or number one? That’s anybody’s guess.
Clichy, is he away as per the rumours? Will Gibbs stay if he isn’t?Will we indeed play Gibbs or buy another full back? Everton’s Baines is flavour of the month according to the tabloids, but do we need or want him?
A centre half is a popular choice, now who could he be? The blogs demand a colossus, a man mountain of a player, a natural instinctive leader, so a captain as well perhaps. How is Cesc going to take to that? Will we lose Cesc? Probably. It’s almost a certainty if he loses the captaincy. But if he is fit and stays, is there a better midfield in the league than the Cesc/Jack combination with Aaron coming through? Maybe, as they say, Denilson is on his way, has he had enough of the constant flack, who else will go with him?
What can we offer Song to stay? We also need someone to lead the line and score the goals we missed this season. Fragile RvP is hardly a good bet to manage a full season; great player that he is, he will have to be nursed.
Who then is out there available to be purchased with Premier League experience? Will the other clubs sell us the missing link we need? I think not, so it’s abroad again for another foreigner to bed in, how long will he take to settle?
Do we perhaps owe our reserves and out-on-loan players a chance? Could those guys, schooled in the Arsenal way, do the job?
If they don’t get the chance, will other clubs faced with same dilemma descend en-masse to steal tomorrow’s stars at a bargain price from under our noses (Barca and Cesc anybody)?
Then there is Arsène: will he stick to his own beliefs regardless of what others think, is the club even bothered what fans think, providing he keeps us in the gold mine that is the champions league, do they know more than we do, are their deals already done?
Questions hundreds of them: just think, some fans are down now, how will they cope in the close season? No football, just the endless controversy. Will the blogosphere melt if clubs and supporters are at odds on the way forward and the clubs take a different route to the fans perceived preference?
Money talks they say – do we have the money? My word it’s going to be a great summer for cyber warriors. I see smoking keyboards and exploding irate fans. Bring it on, say I.
Arsenal News 24/7

Tremendous post Dandan, will be away for most of the day unfortunately as this one could run and run.
The summer will be very interesting as will Season Ticket renewals should we fail to win the League.
mate, what are you going on about?
“The clouds are lifting. Spurs have been well beaten by Real Madrid and the man who did the damage was ex gunner Adebayor. How that man loves scoring against the spuds.” Spot on Dandan- and the rest of your well-penned post as well.
Adebayor has nearly redeemed himself in my eyes- we got a great sum from the ManChavs for him and he barely helped them at all and now he’s sunk the spuds! Brilliant!
Jonny- I think you’ll find the author is “going on about” a great many things but overall the hopes and fears of where we find ourselves are explored. Where do you stand on the hope vs doom spectrum?
Morning Jonny,
The post is written by dandan who is one of the eternal optimists on the site as he’s supported Arsenal for more than 40 years and has seen it all before. He is basically inviting everyone to look on the positives and to view the inevitable summer clamour for signings as a challenge rather than torture.
Hi Dandan, 🙂
What a truly wonderful and insightful piece of prose, and certainly puts some of the vitriolic and spiteful comments we read into perspective. Ace! 🙂
I hate the “I told you so” merchants, unless it is me, of course. 🙂
You touched on the Spuds v Madrid result last night. When we lost to Barca I said, at that time amid the wailing, that it was hard to take, but of the three british clubs going forward only one (and probably none) could win the Champions League.
How much harder it is to reach the quarter finals and lose. How much harder again to lose in the semis, and nothing is so hard as losing in the final.
We have had our pain, amidst much jeering, now let the others endure theirs. No sympathy here! 🙂
Great post, seriously sensible thinking. What would you do and who would you sign given the option?
Have a look at this and put your suggestions down, I’d love to see what folks think. http://www.wigangooner.co.uk/?p=304 I challenge you folks to name your transfer ambitions. Surprisingly despite lots of hits noone has really had the nuts so far to stick their neck out 🙂
WG
Guys,
I was saving this philosophical morsel for a gloomy day, but what the hell, it pleased me, so here goes.
If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without alcohol,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs
Then you are probably ……..
A DOG!! 🙂
Ade looks like a lost man in one nil lost against sporting gijon, he really loves playing against Spuds!!
Can you tell me, is a doomer any fan who does not believe that Arsene Wenger is infallible? I happen to think that he shold step down at the end of this year and that we should move on to a new exciting era with a a fresh face at the helm and fresh ideas throughout the club. Arsene should step aside before he leads us out of the champions league places, so now is the perfect time, so that his successor can inherit a relatively strong platform (as Wenger did when he came to the club). I am enthused and excited by such a prospect. Where is the doom in that?
We all follow the Arsenal, over land and sea….and BOLTON! Happy days an away game to go see.
Still tickets available for Easter Sunday.
Also Stoke tickets are also 3000 allocation, go on sale next week.
Morning all, a fantastic thought provoking post Dandan. As things stand now ( and I may change my mind by the time the season ends) I would for next season
a) have Chesney and Fabianski as my 1 and 2
b) ship out Squillaci and promote Bartley
c) have Sagna practice crossing with a defender infront of him all summer
d) ship out Denilson and Rosicky promote Lansbury/Coquelin give Diaby his last chance
e) Sell Bendtner, move Walcott centrally and buy a winger
I dont think we are that far away, In my opinion the players have let Wenger down comitting fundamental errors. We are feeling the pain of the Spurs and Newcastle debacles!!!!!
Im in and out today
Morning Gooner70,
I personally don’t like to use the term doomer or AKB as they are associated with other sites and carry a degree of ‘insult’. The author, I know, does not believe AW is perfect but is just using the common parlance. If you would care to read yesterday’s article and the comments you will see that we are not afraid to question Arsène’s management.
We invite authors of all persuasions to write for the site and so you will invariably find the full spectrum of opinion being expressed as long as it is polite and respectful.
Very enjoyable read Dandan.
On another subject, it looks likely we will lose Clichy this summer, apparently we have just signed teenage left back Carl Jenkinson from Charlton.
Unless we take the risk of promoting Gibbs (I don’t think he’s ready yet) we will have to sign a fully fledged LB – but Leyton Baines?????
Gooner70- “Can you tell me, is a doomer any fan who does not believe that Arsene Wenger is infallible?”
In my opinion, and it is only mine, a “doomer” is someone who believes that from a potentially winning position, we will lose. The only reason I am so negative about people who display this attitude is that it rubs off on other people and on the team when it becomes the prevailing atmosphere at home games. So as I mentioned above- it’s about hope against doom/despair.
I don’t think anyone of any experience believes ANYONE is infallible, but there are too many fans who think chucking out the baby with the bath water is a good idea. There are not many managers out there who could have done what AW has in keeping us at the top table with such an enormous outlay in recent years. Apparently, the books have now started to balance in our favour, so I believe we will have to judge our manager on where we finish this season and on what he does in the transfer window this summer.
Thanks for that Rasp. I have to say I cant ever remember a split between fans of a single club ever being so bitter. I am very worried what those fans who have nailed their colours to the Arsene mast so dogmatically will do to the club when he does actually move on. Will they stay with Arsenal or, for the sake of argument, follow Arsene to Bayern Munich.
to do well next season we need the ffg players as far away from the emirates as possible. almunia / denilson / diaby / bendtner… clichy & song should be back up players. i feel for rosicky , injury has got the better of him . unfortunately he also has to go. get s strong midfielder , 30 goal a season striker and back up goalkeeper. and the skies will be blue again.
Aside from the blogs and fans that have wanted AW out for the last couple of years I think even the pro AW who are desperate to see him suceed (of which I am one) are becoming disillusioned, and I think justifiably so. It is not because we didn’t win on Saturday. For me the frustration is that AW has got it 95% right and only needed to dot a couple of i’s and cross a couple of t’s to have a dominant team. I don’t believe the money is not available. We were sold the new ground and increased ticket prices on the basis that we would be able to compete at the top level in transfers. A lot of the debt is paid off now. If we keep things tight for 2 years it might all be paid off but is this the fans primary ambition or given the choice would fans rather see some substantial money spent now to complete the team at the expense of the debt taking 2 further years to pay off. We could spend £70-£80m this year on 3 quality players but would recoup up to £40m on a clear out of players. With the age of our side (due to AW’s brilliance in developing young players) it may be the only money needed to be spent for the next 3 years so a net outlay of £40m for 3 seasons is still good business. Denilson (and some others) should not be subjected to what they are but the fact is he is not good enough at our level. He can still have a top flight career elsewhere so let him have it. It is not fair on him to keep him here and is kind of like the teenage X-Factor auditionees that are awful but have been told by their family they are great with the gobby mum coming on to tell Cowell that he has ruined her little girls dreams. The cruelty is in fact from the parents by giving the false illusion in the first place. The little things that needed doing at Arsenal have seemed obvious for ages but are not addressed. In any situation in life if you are waiting for someone to do something simple and they have had 4-5 opportunities to do it you become annoyed and frustrated not because they didn’t do it initially but because they have continued to ignore it despite it being such a simple matter to address. Get one better defender like Cahill (simple). Get a respected defensive coach like Keown to drill the defense (simple). Instruct our full-backs to practice crossing the ball (simple). Get another DM like Parker (simple). Lastly get a pacy lethal finisher and drop RVP into the number 10 role. We had Wright, Anelka and Henry in succession but no pacy striker since and RVP is not a lead the line striker despite the fact he can do it. It may cost £35m but ask the fans if they would sanction this spending for that special player or would they rather the money they pay into the club be used to wipe out the debt quicker. Will any of the above happen? Unlikely, and that is why many die hard AW fans are becoming frustrated.
love the 21 questions…what if?…no one knows all the answers. they reveal themselves as the season goes. one thing is certain, once a gunner always a gunner..
I understand your concerns Gooner70. I am happy AW is our manager and I am awestruck by his achievements.
Imagine this dialogue at the interview with AW when it came to his job description..
“What we’d like you to do, is make us a healthy profit on player sales, design and oversee the build of a state of the art training facility, then take part in every aspect of the building of the finest club stadium in the country and get us into the CL every season to help fund those projects – oh and I forgot to mention that you’ve got to do this with minimal funds to buy players – oh and you’re not allowed to tell anyone this so you’ll have to take all the flack”
For most managers (M O’N) there would be a click as they closed the door behind them but AW not only accepted the challenge, he has achieved it.
A great article dandan, you really ought to take up writing as a profession based on “How to be always positive even in the face of adversity”
By the way rasp dandan has upported Arsenal for a lot longer than 40 years 😉
Haha kelsey, I thought that was the case but didn’t want to protray him as an old duffer 😛
Browny/Gooner70: thanks for your input. As Rasp has said we don’t ask people to agree just to contribute.
My view for what it is worth is that Wenger will reorganise the squad this summer, that reorganisation will include players moving in and out and the utilisation of the present staff. The purpose of the article was to provoke discussion and share views, if your view is that Wenger should go that’s OK, but I like Rasp believe he has so much still to offer the club and his departure would be a disaster that the board will do anything they can to prevent.
Another pint I owe you Kelsey 🙂
what a great post just made my day n one thing we should by baines atleast he cross the ball better than clichy
Sorry but I have almost lost interest in this season completely. The title has been there for the taking this year and we have a team that is talented enough to win and we should have gone on and won it. What we don’t have is a team with the balls to actually do it and that is scandalous. I’ve seen Arsenal teams int he past that would of just won that game on Saturday and won the game at WBA – does anyoneone think those games were not winnable for this team? Given that its the only competition the team are left in do you not think someone would of bundled a winner over the line? Could the defense not concentrate enough not concede yet another stupid goal? Had we got those extra four points we would be within 3 points of Unired with a game in hand. Why did the players not raise their game?
I wouldn’t have a problem if believe the players were really working their socks off but aside from 2-3 players most of them have the balls of mice. I’ve always defended Wenger up until this season and now I’m starting to think he cannot finish the job, I don’t want to see it end badly with the fans demanding his head so I hope he can turn it around but I’m not so sure. Our season finished the day we threw away the Carling Cup I’m afraid.!
Browny you make football management seem so easy. If that were the case everyone would have a chance of being as lucky as us as football fans.
The question of Cahill raises it head again and for me he has shown himself to be no better than what we have at the club. The myth of being good at a small club, like SWP like Robbie Keane like Peter Crouch none have managed it when asked to do it at the top level.
Has Keown even got a coaching badge? Anyway having read an interview from him recently he calls the idea disrespectful of the coaches that are at the club. Like Steve Bould for arguments sake.
I’m enjoying schadenfreude more than is perhaps good for my soul but here’s one of my favourites from today on twitter:
“What do Heather Mills and Spurs have in common? The 2nd leg is just for show.”
The magnitude of Spurs’ defeat yesterday has truly brightened my mood! Terrible really…
Wonderman- a concise and well-thought out plan of improvement. I agree in the main and hope that we can do something about Miyaichi’s work permit to get one of the 2 wingers I believe we need. The boy has a fabulous attitude to go with the obvious skills and athleticism. He is apparently living at Feyenoord’s training centre while he adapts to Europe, so he doesn’t get distracted.
How good is that?!
Dandan,
Wonderful post. Strewth, the standard on here keeps on rising, and to think I was even considering writing one myself about Football.
Last night’s result does remind me about the things that really matter about following The Arsenal. Takes me back to the years when I always knew we would end the season potless, but I equally knew that I was about to have about twenty days a season when I could rock up on a Saturday, enjoy the company of great mates from all walks of life, drink too much and then tool on down to the ground where together we would experience many lows and extraordinary highs together. Occasionally we bagged one, and we usually finished above that lot, so life was very good indeed. I am married to The Arsenal and that’s that. I like the odd trophy, but no-one can tell me that the short term euphoria is more important to my life than the marriage itself. Otherwise, I would be a Chav, wouldn’t I?
RA: something else positive today. I am not a dog.
Goonerism it certainly has appeared that way over the last few weeks I can’t dispute that.
However did you think after coming back from a dodgy goal v Everton and after the brilliance of the comeback against Barca in the first leg that this team lacked heart?
I think what they lack is self belief, and as you say losing to Brum in the CC Final took more of that belief away and certainly has had an effect on our subsequent performances, so have appalling referee decisions and injuries to crucial players before and after that game.
Can’t say I was sad to see Spurs lose last night but at the same time it’s a pretty sad state of affairs when that’s what it’s come to for Arsenal fans. We should be better than that! Let me remind you that our performance at the Nou Camp last season wasn’t a whole lot different and Spurs came to our place this season and mugged us. In fact mugged is exactly the right way to describe it. After battering them with exhibition football and going two goals up in the first half how did we then contrive to lose that match? How did we contrive to lose a four goal lead up at St James Park? There’s been a few other calamities too but many of them just blur into one these days. Even after messing up those games we were still in with a good shout at the title and have still failed to step up. I’m sorry but it’s just not acceptable. If it was a lack of ability and this team was genuinely lacking the talent of other teams but worked their socks off and were in this position then you could at least take pride in the team.
Wenger’s made mistakes. Why go into the season with RVP as your main striker whilst knowing that he will be injured for long periods? When it becomes clear that Vermalean (our best centre half) is going to be out for the whole season then why not make another defensive signing? The re signing of Lehmann is a joke, if it was obvious to us all that we needed a another keeper then it should of been to Wenger too.
Finally, what is up with our medical team? Why do so many of our key players end up on the treatment table at the most crucial times of the year?
Stop it GIE, I am finding it really hard to find something to disagree with in your balanced and intelligent comments today.
Gooner70, we are 2nd in the table; we could still win the EPL; we would have won the CC apart from a wierd human error; yes this would be a good time to diss the manager and then sack him!!
Are you serious? (that’s rhetorical, no need to reply).
Browny, I have respect for what you are saying, though I have a slightly different viewpoint, and if you give it until the summer Arsene will no doubt address any problems perceived or otherwise, and you will be a happy bunny when he buys a special player, or three!! 🙂
@GoonerInExile
Yeah maybe you’re right and it’s a lack of belief but we have seen the same thing every season for the past six years. How many big games have we lost in that time? That our players were happy just to win the first leg against Barca said it all, they were all talking about it being a turning point for the team and it was only half time inthe fixture. The CC final was a joke and had we won that then I think we would be in a far better position now, what that means is that WE HAD TO WIN THAT GAME, and Wenger and the team should of done whatever it took to win it even if it meant playing like we did when we won the Cup Winners Cup or when we last won the FA Cup against Manchester United. We’re a far superior side to Birmingham, we even beat them 3-0 at their place a few weeks earlier but when it came to a crunch game their players wanted it more. We gave Birmingham there first silverware in donkeys years, how long are we going to continue to be so charitable?
Hi Micky, 🙂
Agree with your comment. Half the excitement for me in following Arsenal is the extreme highs which easily make me forget the lows.
There was a picture of a beautiful short haired dog that was supposed go with my philosophical comment today. It was beyond the wit of man to show it on WordPress, or at least the wit of this man!! 🙂
That was a pity, otherwise it would have been obvious the subject was not an AA’er with a beautiful head of hair. 🙂
Doh!! should have read; [Source: Evonne]
Oh and everyone saying ‘we’re still secnd in the table and could still win it’, mathmatically yes we could but do any of you honestly believe that we will? If I’m proved wrong no one will be happier than me but having defended Wenger and his team time and time again to the doubters I have now become one myself and that’s depressing me. I used to always want to hear what Wenger said after a game and now I don’t even bother unless I want to have a laugh. Does anyone believe that when United and Wayne Rooney come to our place this season that Rooney won’t scare the shit out of Almunia and force him into some kind of calamitous error? One day we will look back at some members of this team as the jokes they are and laugh – Almunia, Squillaci and they will take their place alongside Gus Caeser, Stepanovs and Nelson Vivas. However at least those players were part of title and cup winning sides. Who have we got in our team that has ever won anything for us? Who have we got in our team who has stepped up in a big game and taken it by the scruff of the neck? Do you remember Thierry Henry against Liverpool or Real Madrid? Or Tony Adams coming up from the back and winning a header? Or Patrick Viera or Dennis Bergkamp? Who in our team plays with that kind of passion?
Goonerism, It is sad to see an obvious fan so down.Yes I agree this season has seen its share of dodgy turnarounds, but as a true fan you will know that on those two main occasions you highlight, we had every right to feel aggrieved at the refereeing decisions that went against us.
Again Snr respected ex players have come out of late and made it known that the club did in its normal quiet way try to reinforce in the areas you mention. But Arsone and Ferguson have both also bemoaned the lack of value in the market place at present because of the ridiculous antics of City and Chelsea. Money will be a deciding factor for most clubs in the next few years as new disciplines and rules come into play. hopefully Arsene and his perseverance and prudence has put us on course for some golden years.
Stay with us your comments are valued and no doubt you will find kindred spirits along the way.
“red arse”what makes you think arsene will buy a special player or three next transfer window, when he’s ignored the 1-3 players reqd that many are clamouring for?what’s different this time?
@DanDan
Don’t worry I’m not going anywhere I’m a fan but that’s just how I feel at the moment and I’m sure I’m not alone. It’s just become a bit depressing how every year around this time our season unravels in the same way as the last. Things could be a lot worse I know and we should be happy that our team consistently plays at the top level but I’m not happy that we have become the perennial bridesmaids. The referee robbed us against Barca yes and I believe that given the way our previous games against them had gone that we could of finished the game strongly with 11 men on the pitch. However us going to them is no disgrace and they are bloody good, what is a disgrace is losing a tin pot cup final to a bunch farmhands like Birmingham, the fact that we gave that little shit Bowyer something to celebrate is something I will never forget….
King Gooner,
Rumbles in the boardroom!
RA,
Whispering here…I don’t know what she was on about, I mean, we are talking way past its best and receeding. I guess it was more down to the serious lack of competition!
I’ve got a mate who keeps banging on about the Arsenal of a few years ago. How great they were and how shit we are now, in comparison. Nothing wrong with that really – as its true. However, I recall him moaning all the time then as well… Get the picture?
Goonerism,
“the fact that we gave that little shit Bowyer something to celebrate is something I will never forget….” 🙂
Goonerism imagine being a spud today first CL appearances for 50 yrs and then they go out to someone we beat on their own patch, undone by one of our rejects. My Brother is a spud and gave me an earful from Spain yesterday haven’t heard a peep today. 🙂
johnny hoy,
Some people have a problem for every solution!
I AM going to attempt to write a serious post and its content will reveal my real reasons for optimism, however for the sake of today, I will say the gist of it is that I believe AW really does understand the problem and that his substitutions (awful in my book) are his attemp to address it, although he simply does not have the personnel to impliment it.
Oh bugger. Work thing. Offski.
Go for it Mickey
The real downside of watching Arsenal now with these new plastic fans/tourists is the the way people keep calling themselves childish names like “gooners” instead of gunners. Grow up and pass me the sick bucket!
And Sidcup Reds is a good name?
Sidcup, hope your nausea soon passes and you can join an intelligent debate
Johnny hoy,
We’ve all met them or know them.
For myself, I wish they would all f**k off and not bore the arses off the rest of us with their constant wailing and whining.
Some of the comments on the blogs fall into the ‘crying before you’ve been hit’ category. Shudder!
We all want to win everything, every year, but then so does every other fan and every other club
There can only be one EPL winner every year, the rest have to suck it up!
This year it could still be us, apart from Manure and the Chavs which other club can say that!
Silky name….that’ll be me then.
I was a Junior Gunner and I grew up to be a Gooner.
Anyway the players are the Gunners in just a munitions runner.
iPhone corrections
Silky = silly
In just = I’m just
dandan
Pearls of wisdom in that post. Like you, I have lived through some very fallow periods when The Arse were (a) not winning anything and (b) playing dire football. Perspective gives everything a different slant.
It’s just a shame that so much of the support now seems conditional on instant results or guaranteed success.
GIE,
I prefer Gooner = Silky Name!! 🙂
I’ve just seen the spuds result, how funny. So we got beaten by the “best team in the whole wide world ever” and we’re chokers? They are absolute dogshit and the thing the makes me laugh about the doomers the most is how they say year in year out that they are catching us up. I’ve even heard someone saying twitchy is better than Wenger. I’m still depressed though and I don’t think anything will change next season apart from some other teams getting stronger. Suppose that makes me a doomer too 🙂
Just seen the inter shalke result. puts the spuds result against them in perspective doesn’t it
That’s the spirit GM! Always good to be a Gooner eh? 🙂
@Sidcup Reds
Out in the countryside is that what people get upset about?
Ok now we’ve got the naval gazing out of the way, why don’t we go and win the title? Who’s with me?
Oh yeah and can we please stop talking about Spurs, really it is not needed They are Spurs and we are Arsenal, look at our respective histories and that will tell you that the only thing that makes them our rivals is their local proximity to us….
@Rockylives
Yes I remember those times too but they team always had a bit of heart. I love some of the football we play but until it wins us something it will never be remembered in the way it should. The team of 89 wasn’t that talented but they went up to Anfield and took the title because they wanted it so bad.
Gunnermichael actually sounds shit Sidcupreds. I’ll stick to gooner.
Hi Carlito,
I have high hopes for our Japanese Starlet also, but I think we need to be patient. I really think Walcott is ready to scare the daylights out of centre halves and his movement in those situations is excellent
Carlito
I still think we can win the league but I’m not that confident. I wouldn’t want to support anyone else but I’d like to win something.
Gonnerism im with u
Goonerism- I’m with you! (except laughing that the spuds is part of our right as Arsenal supporters- let us have our fun!)
WM- heard a rumour we’ve made enquiries about Juan Mata at Valencia. As far as I can work out he’s a left winger so if true Ryo will certainly be on the backburner. (Did Nasri ever sign that contract?)
Theo was moved central for 10 mins or so before being subbed on Saturday. He has the potential to scare centrebacks I grant you but so far all the damage he’s done is cutting in from the right…
Carlito – I think it is alot to ask of a teenager to come to the prem by way of Feyenord and explode straight away (remember Ronaldo ?). I know wonder whether Vela has had his day ?
Goonerism – I’m with you too (re winning the league)
As for Spuds they don’t normally bother me but as so many of our “fans” seem to think Harry is some messiah that Arsene isn’t (as GM said) is reason to highlight and enjoy on our blogs.
How long til we celebrate St Totteringhams Day? Now there is a team that has gone backwards.
Oh and heart……Aaron Lennon ill before game….aah bless…..according to his own Twitter he said he was ill on Sunday, way to manage twitcher….you see as much as arsenal players seem to be injured all the time I’d prefer them to be protected and not forced to play with injections etc (Bale, Gallas etc)
Bergkamp would not declare himself fit unless he was 100% he played at the top level until late in his thirties have to think it’s a good thing to rest sometimes, rather than carrying tweaks/pulls into games.
A good optimistic post Dandan,we need more fans like you!To be honest it can be frustrating being a arsenal fan…but i wouldnt want to support any other team.Just look at tottenham shitspur they spent 5x the amount we have in a desperate attempt to reach europe all well and good right? Not even close because the spuds spent more money then they make in a delusional and arrogant thought that they will be playing in europe every season.Eventually soon redknapp will leave spurs for england and his farewell present to them a great big load of debt and a huge wage bill that spurs cant pay off.Result is relegation,oh how i look forward to that day.Compare that to wengers soundproof strategy at creating a team that are capable of competing for every trophy available year after year,a team composed of world class young internationals who cost next to nothing and a structure that gurantees that arsenal club will be finacially stable for years and years without the need for a sugar daddy(im looking at you chelsea, man u,titinham, man city)Now my fellow gunners if wenger signs a good strong to partner vermaelen and a gk then we will the title next season
@micky, Red Arse, thanks for the nice comments yesterday. Glad my thoughts made sense to you like they did in my head. I’ll have to write more on the subject another time.
Good read there, dandan. Anything can happen in the world of football. This year, more than ever, we should not write our chances off. Some crazy things have happened. United go over half a season unbeaten with a mediocre squad and a out-of-form Rooney. Chelsea go winless for months. Rather than trying to justify or blame this and that, the supporters should be getting behind the team. It will only help the team keep their morale up for the run-in, which is exactly what they need right now. If Chelski can get out of their slump, surely we can with a little (or a lot) more support. Let’s go Gunners.
Kelsey our man on the ground where is he?
Have just seen something about news expected out of the Emirates soon …. good news
“Imminent news out of Arsenal Football Club. I am sworn to secrecy. I am told good news. I can say no more #arsenal #afc”
This was posted on twitter by @editorsportcouk
Excellent post, dandan.
I hate it when fellow gooners say how sad it is that we rejoice when the spuds lose.
Heck, I’ve always rejoiced when the spuds lose and always will. Isn’t it part of supporting Arsenal?
I was brought up in North London and was always villified for supporting Arsenal at school. That kind of abuse leaves an indelible mark. Thank f*ck my old man was an Arsenal supporter. 🙂
I will have a guess Nasri has signed. 🙂
dandan you could be right, or Clichy? or both plus Cesc for another 10 years.
Our wage bill is shot tho…. 😀
What if Aliadiere has been signed? Nothing to stop is right he is out of contract….could be the goalscorer we’ve been calling for…..for 8 games anyway
Sky are saying SWPhillips wants to stay at city for rest of his career, are you sure, till this silly contract runs out more like.
Loads of money and no game time what a waste of talent.
GIE – calm down, calm down, could be just a rumour!
Whom are we supporting tonight? Manure me thinks
Hi Chas, 🙂
I suspect the comments were meant to be ironic, as in;
Aah, poor Spurs, it is terrible they were totally marmelized and made to look like prize dickheads by those naughty Madristas. Hee, hee, hee! 🙂
If not; then bollox to the perpetrators!!
Hi Evonne, 🙂
How’s things?
What have you done to 2 * 13?
You rang 😉
Aliadiere cannot be signed,by the rules he can play for the reserves only.
No, fabregas is not pregnant.
I will try and find out about this exclusive if I can.
We need Kelsey to throw some light on this.
Of course, ‘good news’ depends on who it is good for!
— AFC are pleased to announce the good news your Season Tickets ……… are going up by 20%.
We are so happy.
signed _____ Hill Wood Jnr
Hiya Red Arse, I have done nothing to 26may, he’ll be back soon, promise.
Dancing Spuds looking like prize dickeheads – music to my ears 🙂 I am not sure where you live, dear Red Arse, but I’m in N14 and there are many, too many Spuds around. And they were giving it a large one for the last few weeks – but now it has gone all very, very quite, I wonder why, must ask them 🙂
Many families originally from North London have divided loyalties since the year dot as to supporting Arsenal or Spurs, and there will be a barrage by many Arsenal fans today to mock the Spurs, who even in their wildest dreams didn’t expect for events to unfold as they did last night.Redknapp now has major problem to lift his team for the weekend, as Spurs like us have had a dismal run of results in the league this last month.I am sure Spurs can win the return leg against Real Madrid, but not by enough to go through.I think it is fair to say they have over achieved this season in Europe and their major dilemma will be to maintain a top four place, with one eye on those directly below them and also have on their mind the proposed move to a bigger state of the art stadium. All eyes will be on Redknapp to motivate his players, something I am afraid to say has been missing from our own manager recently.
I know many will not agree with me,but i would rather concentrate my efforts on supporting Arsenal than hating Spurs.
Hi Kelsey,
Thank goodness Cesc is not preggers, I was so worried for a while there. I am not ready to settle down yet! 🙂
Kelsey,
As usual you are talking good sense. 🙂
I too subscribe to the ‘support Arsenal and don’t bother hating Spurs’ ethic.
I do not wish to be cruel; so, I do not want Spurs to lose 10:0 in their next game as a reaction to the horrible humiliation of thier pathetic players in Spain.
I would be quite happy to be magnanimous and accept a small 6:0 defeat instead.
I know, I know, too kind by half but that’s just me, a good Arsenal lad!! 🙂
Red Arse,
I think I could go along with that result 😉
Right off to collect fish and chips and head for my sons house to watch the footy, a draw would be interesting give them both something to think about.
Good news will probably be Johann and Chesney back earlier than thought.
Just thought about that Rocky or it could just be utter bullcrap, as imminent didn’t appear to be as imminent as first intimated!
Evening all,
Utd win for me, as Arsenal will be the first London club to win the CL. However, usual rules of engagement apply. Hard fought, bad tempered, high scoring with extra time at Old Trafford. Both sets of fans and managers banned forever from everything with all players recieving minor injuries but requiring long lay offs.
Hang on a second, if Cesc had twins, would the Fabregettes have Arsenal DNA? Something for the future, eh.
Amen to that Micky! 🙂
Bye.
Evening all…
Anyone about?
Hi Irish, the chavs have paid the price for winding up Rooney – he scored a great goal.
All those of you who have claimed to be working on a post – please hurry up, we need something for tomorrow and for friday.
Giggs is class, even if he is a Manc, he’s class.
Torres = 😆
Hello Peaches and Irish, all girls then 🙂
Giggs is class, Rooney is best when angry, Abramovitch has a face like a slapped arse 🙂
Suffrarsegettes 🙂
Hi Evonne,
Being a decent game to be honest – I’m just waiting patiently for the injuries to mount for both sides
On comes Wacko Jacko
Naughty girl Irish!!! you had your wish granted – that piece of poo that scored against us has been stretched off, nice…
Irish,
What do you think about that nutter Al Fayed erecting a statue of MJ outside Fulham FC?
Ha ha Evonne a couple more now would be nice.
Peaches – I think its a disgrace, its a football club. I liked MJ’s music and happen not to believe the stories about him, but none of that matters. Put it this way – if a statue of Lady Gaga was ever put up outside the Emirates I’d drive the bulldozer through it myself …
It’s unbelievable that Utd can top of the league with that kind of display week in and week out. To hell with a trophy if my team playing like that. I’m soooo happy that I support Arsenal.
50m and total one shots on goal! people forget how difficult it is to bring a new players and the risks that come with it, and to think people want wenger to be sack because of his lack transfer activity.
I just looked up Arsenal’s new phone number in the White Pages.
One nothing one nothing one nothing one nothing one nothing one nothing
Morning all.
Well maybe just maybe my info is correct.
http://www.arsenalinsider.com/arsenal-news/2378-is-david-dein-on-way-back-to-arsenal
Seems so Kelsey
I forgot to post up the second tweet from sportcouk last night.
Indeed it has sparked a variety of speculation, perhaps Mr Dein will buy back Usmanovs shares (dream on). I have no objection with Kroenke being involved but it needs old Arsenal men, Fiszman, Hill-Wood, Dein to make sure the club continues to protect high standards and values.
Morning GIE.
I am sure that Fiszman is making final arrangements, however sad that may be.
Morning Kelsey – has Danny Fiszman’s health deteriorated? I thought he was feeling better
Sport.co.uk understands that #Arsenal will make a statement in the coming days which will relate to future of the club at boardroom level.(official quote)
Evonne Morning.
He is terminally ill but is in remission. That is why he is in London at this time as oposed to being housebound in his home in Switzerland.
Morning Kelsey – I didn’t realise Fizzy was unwell, I thought it was Ken Friar who had been poorly ? I saw him(Friar) at the Barnet game last August and he looked quite weak.
Cheers Kelsey, how sad
So I think we can all assume that this so called special news is about share holding, but with two major players nearing 30%, plus lady nina at over 16% and Fiszman at over 12% I can’t see how it will be resolved.
The Board take no dividends, just hope to make a profit on their share holding.
The david dein bit interests me more than anything.
Morning kelsey and all
If what you say is true – Dein coming back – I shall be giving my spy a right telling off 😆
it that the bridge lady, peaches 🙂
New Post
Glad United won last night, the last thing I would want is to see Chelsea buy the Champions League as well and become the first London club to do so. We’re the biggest and best supported club in London which is also the biggest and (in my opinion) best city in Europe. That no London club has won the Champions League is a strange anomoly that I hope WE fix.
Going back to Chelsea, I think I now dislike them more than Spurs. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing better than going to White Hart Lane and giving them a lesson or even winning the league at their place but I don’t think I hate them – how could I? They’ve always been in our shadow. However Chelsea are a whole different kettle of fish and one shot of Abramovich on the TV last night and remembering that he spent 50 mill on Torres reminded me how much I dislike their whole operation.
