Arsenal’s frozen assets are in the form of key players returning to fitness and form – if everything goes our way, we may see the loss of yesterday’s game as a bonus in that it gives us a little more time to get closer to full strength. The return of Cesc, Vermaelen, Ramsey and Diaby would make us a force to be reckoned with capable of fighting on many fronts and yes, beating Barcelona – why not?
Top of the League for Xmas had such a nice ring to it but the snow put an end to that possibility with the postponement of our game yesterday. Unfortunately it paves the way for the Manchavs to possibly be top of the pile unless their game is called off tomorrow night against Everton. Come next Monday night, we’ll still be in the top three when we kick off against the chavs so that’s something to be optimistic about.
Aaron Ramsey has only played 45 minutes of football on loan at Notts Forest and is due to return to Arsenal on the 3rd of January. Should we get him back so that he can be of some use to us towards the end of the season or leave him at Forest to slowly rehabilitate? I wasn’t sure about him going there on loan in the first place so I’d like him back in training with us. We haven’t seen much of Denilson and Diaby is too often a one game wonder, so Ramsey alternating with, a by then exhausted Jack, would be a good option.
Barcelona now have so much money they’re going to pay £100m for Cesc. Whatever they want to pay for him he needs to be playing for us at the moment and its very sad for him that he’s not. His heart must have fallen to his boots when the Champions League draw was made but as he missed the tie in Spain last time round I hope he’s going to help us show the world that we can play like that too.
The red card that Sagna received in our game against Belgrade means that he’ll be missing both the legs against Barca which will be a great shame as I feel he’s back to his first season best. Will we have a fit first eleven by then? – will we heck, but it’ll be interesting to see how the team sets up over the next few weeks. Can Robin and Cesc get match fit? Who will be our no 1? Which of our centre-backs will gel as the first choice pairing? Will we all love Song again? Much to ponder.
Yesterday the club announced the signing of 18-year-old Japanese forward Ryo Miyaichi a player who impressed AW while on loan earlier in the year. He is reported to have a mix of Thierry Henry and Christiano Ronaldo in his locker – I’m looking forward to seeing that.
We have inches of snow here in North London which while looking beautiful is a right pain. If you have snowy conditions stay safe and keep warm.

Arsenal News 24/7

I think Sagna’s red card means a 1 match ban not 2?
Recipe for success
Fab in goal
Sagna at right back
Clichy at left back
Verm/kos at centre back
Djorou at dm
Song/cesc/nasri at midfield
Walcot/rvp at attack
Thanks Kirret,
I’m having trouble finding the definitive answer to Sagna’s ban.
I’m more concerned with the reports that Arsène wants ‘world class Almunia’ to stay. I thought he was the great psychologist, how does he think that statement will impact on Fab2 and Szczesny? – unless he thinks WC Al will be happy as 3rd choice …… alternatively it may well be a misquote by the Press or AW’s bigging him up to secure the best move away?
agree with kirret
the ryo kid looks like a bit of a star – impressive ball skill and good speed. 6’0″ at 18 years so wont be a pushover either…
Professional foul,one match ban!
I think we will be winning both legs because they will be playing before the match but bacelona will be on break. With fabregas and van in the squard not forgetting arsenal man of the moment nasri and arshavin, the game will be so intresting. All we pray for is injury free for our player. In wenger i trust. Gunners for life.
Thanks Zico, that makes sense – although he should have just got a yellow as he wasn’t technically the last man and it didn’t appear as though he denied a goalscoring opportunity.
The bad news for me today is the imminent departure of Harvaard Nordveit. Obviously I haven’t obeserved him day to day in training, but he was very impressive in pre-season and we are not exactly overburdened with quality RB’s coming through the ranks.
RvP has created a problem for AW, he’s not as good as Chamakh as the ‘1’ in a 4:5:1 yet he’s world class and can win us games. Maybe he can alternate with AA as the left sided midfielder. I want to see Nasri played centrally whenever possible and of course Cesc must also feature in the middle, so it will not be easy to accommodate Wilshire, Song, Nasri, Cesc and AA whilst still giving some playing time to Denilson, Walcott, Rosicky (maybe Ramsey) and Diaby.
nordveit have been sold? really? where to?
It hasn’t gone through yet statics, but he’s asked to leave and I believe there is interest from a German club.
According to ACLF, Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in signing Nordveit.
How can anyone say that RVP is not as good as Chanakh as the main striker. He is different class when fit
No-one said that dennis – read again. RvP is a better player than Chamakh, but he’s not a better target man in a 4:5:1 in my opinion, therefore we have to find another way of fitting him into the system. How many times does RvP get his head on a cross from the flanks? Chamakh gives us an option up front we have been missing for some time.
I thnk Aw shld gt a wrld class Rb in jan. 2 cover 4 sagna cos of r.card nd sell off ebuoue whose pace nd game has gone down nd is still doing so.
Nicely cobbled together Peaches.
What with Wellington Silva and Ryo Miyaichi we are truly developing a multi-cultural squad. Though I read Wellington was having registration problems which will surely apply to the Japanese lad.
Rasp. I cannot understand how dennis makes that assumption. Perhaps he only read the first few words of your comment. How to incorporate both RvP and Chamakh is looking to be a difficult proposition at the moment., I believe we should have two alternative forward lines depending upon whom we play; Chamakh and AA, and then RvP and Theo. Dependent upon whether we need pace or power.
BR,
MC and AA, or RvP and Theo. Nice, alternatives in the legendary Big Raddy 4-4-2 fits all occasions!
.
Peaches,
Thanks for post. Some great talking points, so hopefully I can pop back later.
Nice Post Peaches. 🙂
Arsenal lost their appeal yesterday over the non-granting of a special work visa for Wellington, so he’s off to sunny Spain for up to 3 years! 😦
Having categorically stated he would not buy in Jan, Arsene when grilled by a woman journalist (not you was it Peaches) at the pre-Stoke match interview, backtracked and said “if we need to strengthen the squad, and the player is available, we will do it”.
It’s the usual Arsene cop out, full of caveats, and does not commit him to anything. It’s what he should have said in the first place!
The lad who synopsises the blogs for him must have mentioned they were full of the fans’ frustrations about his transfer embargo! 🙂
Red Arse, why do you call that “the usual Arsene cop out”. I get really tired of people harping on about Arsene Wenger’s delusions or lying. My 12 year old nephew understands that Arsene can’t just say what he thinks in a public forum, that he has to send different messages to different stake-holders, i.e. fans, players, opposing teams. I even like that he calls Almunia world class, although I doubt he believes it. Perhaps you even say “my beautiful wife” from time to time. We can all see for ourselves that Almunia isn’t beautiful, but…
California,
I am disappointed to learn that I have made you tired, especially as I never said Arsene was “delusional” or, and this makes me cross, “lying”.
Especially as you then go on to say you like him calling Almunia “world class” even though you doubt he believes it. You think he is a liar the?
What I meant was that he is a master of distraction and dealing with the media. Read what I said. He always comes out with caveats (a caution, a warning, implying certain acts are dependent on other acts occurring); so that he is not committed to a particular course of action. i.e. He is clever!
I have no objection to you having an opinion, why would I, but if you are going to attack my opinion, please get your facts right and don’t lamely contradict yourself! OK?
“It’s the usual Arsène cop out, full of caveats, and does not commit him to anything. It’s what he should have said in the first place!”
I have read your comment very carefully and like California Gooner find nothing complementary about it no matter which way I look at it.
If you wanted to sell a player would you describe him as crap or world class, if you wanted to sell anything would you describe it as being good or bad?

I know Arsenal have got Wellington and the Japanese kid. Is there any guarantee that Wellington can slot into the senior team. Pires took at least one season and he is more exprienced. What happenis if Wellington doesn’t make the expected impact? Then it will be time wasted.
In the meantime, the redfaced, Ancelotti, etc know you need a a judicious mix of youth and experience. They go and buy the ready made player. In other words you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If the project youth works, its wonderful but frankly these last six years there have been too many false dawns all thanks to our FM.
Yeah I know one day Wenger will be vindicated but frankly 90% of fans don’t share this view.At any other club, the FM would have been asked to go. Yeah I know his cv is such that clubs will fall over getting his signature. That was once upon atime from 1999 to 2006. Since then his stock has fallen.
London – are you about, I need you …….
London – I’ve worked it out 🙂
