Do the positives outweigh the negatives?

Written by kelsey

So we are about to kick off yet another season and on paper not an easy start at Anfield, yet we haven’t lost to pool in the league since 2007. In a way it is good for us to have this as our opening match for several reasons. It will show us that despite our manager being tight lipped about possible signings before the end of the month, the pressure is very much on Liverpool.

By their standards they had a disastrous season last term and Hodgson will have had little time to access the strengths and weaknesses of his own side, and the daily takeover talk will have surely been disturbing him, together with the want-away Mascherano most probably playing and the uncertainty over Torres’ fitness.

Make no mistake, Liverpool rely heavily on Gerrard and Torres. Whilst we start the campaign with several injuries, we appear to have more options, especially in attack and I would say on paper a better team than the opposition.

As with every season, injuries will be a major factor in our quest for the title. We will have a more potent attack now with the introduction of Chamakh , who judging by pre season, is a very versatile and hard working centre forward. Nasri could be our star man. He impressed me tremendously in our warm up games, and if need be will be an able substitute for Fabregas in this opening game. And then of course there is Arshavin, who on his day is a match winner, and has a habit of scoring against the scousers. My gut feeling is that RVP will start and that can only be a good thing, though I wouldn’t be surprised to see Eboue “our super sub” instead of Walcott lining up as he is full of confidence after his brace in Poland and to me it makes sense to keep him in the side.
The defence more or less picks itself and to say our cover is paper thin would be an understatement. Almunia will be back in goal and the fans will be watching his every move. We can only hope that he has an assured game and has finally developed an understanding with the defence.

There are doubts about Denilson,Song and Diaby and Djourou is definitely out. So the intriguing poser is, will Wilshere and Frimpong be thrown into the deep end?
Regardless of the result, we have the makings of a good season ahead. The Premier League will be even more competitive than last, providing our manager adds strength to the squad in the two positions that have been mentioned by armchair experts for months. Remember, the ‘experts’ said no team could afford to lose more than 3 games last season to bag the title –  Chelsea lost six!

As is the norm, there will be much nail biting as the whistle blows to start this campaign, but I remain positive.

Good post Kelsey, judging by Fulhams team news today i’m half expecting the Ozzy to sign for us. So that will be GK taken care of. Then later i’ll be checking the montpelier team to see if there is any sign of spahic. Get the CB sorted out in the next week or so and we’ll be on for the league!!!
The top ten teams this year will be taking points off each other so its anyones league this term.

We will tear a new arsehole in that Liverpool defense. Mark my words, we will destroy them tomorrow. Arshavin will do his stuff. Nasri will be everything Joe Cole isn’t. And Koscielny will head everything away. Up the Gunners.

I think all you idiots are too confidence. The premier League is the toughest league on the planet. Every team is as strong as one another.

Hope Wenger not saying all the words just to appease the fans anger towards lack of signing. He will have a hard time with the fans this season if there is no new signings during these two weeks.

Do the positives outweigh the negatives.

certainly not, defence is weak, goal kepers are crap, and the strike force is weak.

  13. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Yeah, thanks from me too Virtual. This site would really struggle without great comments like yours.

Good post Kelsey. I’m also expecting a win tomorrow and a storming game from Kozzer

  14. Hi forza – how’re you doing, I might have to disagree with you that the strike force is weak but you’re right about the other two areas 🙂

Apparently we have a new nike ball this season which is straighter in the air with less curve.

Tell that to carson in WBA goal he put both hands out, missed it completely, bounced off his chest, straight to a chelsea player, 1-0.if that was one of our keepers they would slate that mistake right through the match and beyond.

Nice one Kelsey, good read sir, Blackpool top,how great is that for Jimmy Armfield, funny how one of the newly promoted teams often manages to do that. Pity Chelsea look like getting more, WBA haven’t turned up.

  18. kelsey's avatar kelsey says:

    Morning all.

let’s start the day with a poser from our manager. I quote.

    On his goalkeepers, Wenger said:

The goalkeepers are great, all ready to play. I just wait for my decision and you will get it soon.

The guy who plays on Sunday will be No 1. It is never for definite but it will be a consequence of what I have seen in pre-season.

[Szczęsny] has not played one game in the Premier League. I believe he has huge quality but I believe it would be a great gamble to play him.

Man United play with a goalkeeper who is 40 years old and Chelsea with a keeper with seven years in the Premier League. You need experience at the back.
    ————————————————–

Now is this a complete bluff to divert the media away from his real intentions. We know a bid was allegedly turned down for Schwarzer, who in turn was left out of the Fulham squad yesterday, or does the boss mean what he said.

Surely he can’t take a chance with
Fabianski, and as he says Szczęsny has not played one game in the Premier League, so the only conclusion is that Almunia it is.

The final sentence is what we all have been saying for two seasons.

  19. kelsey's avatar kelsey says:

Whoever writes todays post i am sure will have their own ideas but I will be happy with a draw to kick start the season.

    What did we learn yesterday.

The gulf between top and bottom remains hugh (Chelsea).

Spurs looked good, yet City with all their mega buck stars need to blend into a team, and maybe with so many egos that may take a while and with another manager.
West ham look woeful, and let Blackpool enjoy their great achievement regardless what happens to them

for the rest of the season.

Unexpected but good start for Wolves, a dogged performance by Fulham, and Sunderland shot themselves in the foot yet again.

Blackburn will be pleased with their win, but Everton are notorious slow starters.

It’s great real football is back, and the first thing that struck me was the pace in so many games after a cautious laborious world cup.

    Good evening everybody

Kelsey, spuds looked like gay sailors in that home strip of theirs. IMO they looked bad 😆

  21. kelsey's avatar kelsey says:

    Evening gnarley:

From the News of the World.

ANDREY Arshavin has dealt Arsenal a blow by declaring: I’m injured and out of form.

Arshavin played so badly for Russia against Bulgaria in a midweek friendly that some in his homeland have called for him to be stripped of the captaincy.

And Arshavin himself admits a problem with his right thigh is also preying on his mind.

The 29-year-old playmaker, set to play against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, said: “I am so worried about an injury I picked before the beginning of the season.

“They haven’t even started to kick me yet – but my leg is already in pain. Working with the ball is painful.

“I would not like a repetition of last season when one injury after another did not allow me to play to my full ability.

“As to what form I am in, let’s see against Liverpool. But judging by the match against Bulgaria, it is very bad.”

Do you believe what he said ? is it again out of context ? or is it true ? . Oh fig it 🙂
