Every blasted damn summer its the same old shit.
Henry is leaving. Vieira is leaving. Fabregas is leaving. It isn’t a summer at Arsenal FC unless our best player is leaving and quite frankly its getting boring.
Henry and Vieira both left when their back and knees were respectively knackered. Now, Cesc is as fit as a fiddle so you can bet your bottom dollar that Wenger will fight to keep him. He will promise him the sun, moon and stars to keep him and hopefully for us, we’ll see the sun (keeper), moon (center back) and stars (forward) on their way to the Emirates.
It makes absolutely no sense for Cesc to leave now.
He is young, Captain of one of Europe’s biggest side, that side’s biggest name and the key cog in our machine. Moving to Barcelona guarantees him nothing – not a place in the starting XI and not trophies. Remember Barcelona went from winning every trophy possible and supposed World Domination to barely scraping La Liga this season – you can say deservedly but Real Madrid gave them some run for their money.
Cesc is probably like the rest of us – anxious to win some silverware, but unlike us he can actually do something about it. During 2009/2010 was there anyone more committed to the Arsenal cause?
He scored and in all probability played with a broken leg against Barcelona at the Emirates.
Remember his cameo against Aston Villa? Remember the joy in his face when he scored against the Spuds? Cesc loves The Arsenal so why would he want to leave? The thoughts that Barcelona would say “now or never” to him is complete trash because they know that Real Madrid would be thinking “great stuff, you take your time Cesc, we’ll have you when you want to come back to Spain.”
More than anyone, Cesc knows what disruption can be caused by players leaving. RvP stayed last season when all the papers said he was off and once again I expect Cesc to be no different.
Cesc WILL stay. RvP WILL stay. AA23 WILL stay. For a change instead of believing all the meeja and their “understanding” and their bloody “sources” and their “friends of friends” lets believe Cesc when he says he wants to stay. He has always said it – one day he will go back to Spain, EVENTUALLY, but eventually isn’t this summer.
Cesc kissed the badge and he meant it.
Cheer up Gooners, the bullshit stories have started so the summer must be here. Sit back and enjoy the weather! Next season “Fabregas 4” leads us out on the battlefield once again.

I agree with all London’s points. The deal will come down to money, but if the negotiations are in the balance and we go to the wire, we will not have the time to secure a deal for a replacent midfielder (not a replacement Cesc!)

Sadly, you can promise the moon but if you can’t deliver…Cesc will go, not just because he is Catalonian, but because he is 23, fit and should be winning trophies. Instead he puts up with AWs promises, weak team efforts because of a fragile squad and the ‘anti Arsenal’ campaign from the media, referees and anyone who breathes!I would go back. Spain treat football teams fairly and it must feel great if you can play knowing that you won’t see two, three, four broken legs over 3 years. Cesc must wonder when it will be his turn to suffer at the hands of thug football without any real protection from anyone.
Arsenal were great once, but now we are a selling team who will struggle to attract stars because we blatantly show no real ambition to win trophies. If we did, we would have invested in players in the last 5 years and won something. SPEND SOME MONEY AND BRING BACK WHAT ALL FANS WANT. SUCCESS!

Last year they paid €35-40+Samuel Etoo for Ibrahimovic who’s about 27-28, with Etoo valued around the €30m mark. Fab has to be worth more than that big bag of sh*t that they are now trying their hardest to offload, and they’ll be lucky to get €20-25m for him.
Factor in that they also have solid players like Pedro, Sergio and Bojan come through in recent years who they paid no money for, then the idea of such a strong team needing additions at a cost of €50m+ doesn’t really make any sense. They’ve practically already signed David Villa and he won’t come cheap.
So I really do think that the fee will present a big problem

Until Cesc actually does go no one can really say definitively they know why he wanted to go. The silence from arse.com is annoyingly deafening at the moment and Wenger seems to have vanished off the face of the Earth. Is he prepping himself for his commentating gig for French TV ?
Of course not chary, but Cesc is not a fool. There are many compelling reasons why Cesc would want to return to Barca and they far outweigh any motive for staying at Arsenal … I’m afraid the ‘love’ is not a strong enough tie to keep him here and he’ll receive plenty of that in Spain.
You can’t blame Cesc for wanting to leave. For past half a decade, Arsenal has lost its best player each year, and only a kid or a geriatric has signed for us.
Arsenal has been close to winning something but have failed only because of Wenger’s stubbornness. Nobody was asking Wenger to make wholesale changes and go bankrupt. Only small tweaks – one or two additions were needed. Wenger promised to do something – but the promises were not met.
Now Fabregas is tired like most of us fans. He can’t live on broken promises of glory, neither can we!

I expect the story to run on and have future twists and turns. The most likely reason for the ‘backtracking’ from Barca was that they tested the water with an insultingly low offer (not official but via covert means) and received such short shrift they realised that not only would they have a battle but that he wouldn’t come cheap – quite rightly.
I still contend that if (and its a very big if), Cesc wanted to go and an acceptable offer was made, Arsene would sell him – and I’m not being critical of AW in saying that.
I have looked over the supposed transfer ins and outs fees over the last number of seasons and they seem to match – i.e. Wenger spends what he gets in on transfers which he said he would do while building the stadium. Maybe its why I’m less angry at him than most??
This summer he says he has more money because what has been paid off on the stadium – that he doesn’t have to sell to buy, we’ll see.

I don’t want Cesc to leave. As I said, the pendulum of probability is in a more comforting position today – but its not over until the transfer window closes or Cesc/Arsenal have made a definitive statement.
The sad truth is that none of us addicts will be able to relax until the transfer window closes. If not Cesc it’ll be some1 else if not who we might sell it’l be who we may be buying. Painful!!

My younger sister is a complete and utter metal head – very particular on her music – but she loves the Gaga too. Wow Maire, do they have mosh pits at pop concerts? I’d like to say my taste is in music is as wide as your sisters – but I only like 2 types: metal or symphonies of the late romantic era.
If you like Metallica you should you tube their version of “Whiskey in a jar” although I think they peaked at the “And justice for all” LP, “Ride the lightning” and “Kill ‘em all” were good too.
