I want to make a decision about my future before the World Cup”
“If I ever leave Arsenal it will be to play for Barcelona”
“Barcelona is a dream I would like to fulfill”
I am very happy at Arsenal, I am in no hurry to leave”
From a statement by our Captain yesterday. What does he mean? How to interpret such ambivalent and contradictory words? How can he be very happy and yet want his future settled within the next 3 weeks? It is puzzling.
The headlines in the press and on the blogs reflect the diversity of opinions, from ” this is the end of Arsenal, blame Wenger” doom, to the “Cesc is staying, all is right with the World”. Fabregas has made it clear he will eventually move to Barca, he has been unerringly consistent – he will go and when he does it will be a massive loss to the team, Fabregas is our fulcrum, without him the team is not as good. But Arsenal are not one player, there will be life post-Cesc.
And being a positive, cup half-full chap, I see Cesc staying for at least 2 more seasons. Reasons? ….. He has been given a massive increase in wages. We have signed a new forward and will strengthen the defence, giving Cesc even more freedom on the pitch. Cesc will never again have the opportunities he has at THOF in his life – he is the centre of the club, and the team is built around him which will not happen when surrounded by the superstars (and super-egos) in Spain. Furthermore, Barca have two great midfielders in Xavi and Iniesta who would start ahead of Cesc, and even Barca need a DM – why leave for a bench seat? Barca say that they have NOT approached Fab, but we all know the value of their statements!!
Finally, who in their right mind would exchange the climate and culture of London for the heat and tapas of Barcelona? ….. apart from Alex Hleb, Silvinho, TH14 and GvB, and look what happened to them!
Arsenal News 24/7

What I started to write about but got waylaid, was the huge gulf in interpretation of a simple statement.
The anti-Arsenal press/bloggers see it as a done deal that Fab is leaving this summer, others that Cesc is just repeating for the 100th time that he is happy at THOF.
Where does the truth lie? Only CF knows. We are in for another summer of rumours…… and in the words of the mighty and sadly missed Phil Lynott, “Don’t believe a word” !!
p.s. For those not aware of the wonders of big Phil, check out Thin Lizzy on Youtube.
Hi Raddy,
Oops, communication breakdown! – I’ve just put up a new post at the same time as you 😳
plus if barca have signed villa (45m)then i doubt they’ll buy cesc as well.
why would you want to play in spain the league is crap
By stating he will only go to Barca he has just saved Barca 10 mil in transfer fees.
If we sell him for less then 40 mil euros regarding whoever we are gonna get in return we will have messed up big time.
Hi Danish ….. I too am a Danish Gooner (København). Welcome to the site.
That is a good point re: the transfer fee to Barca. Hardly the best negotiating position for Arsenal !!
göteborg
Th14, hleb and gvb all won domestic league and european cup doubles! However I’m still sure cesc will stay for at least another year.
i will lost all respect for Cesc if he stays. tat shows lack of ambition. this club lacks ambition, sad to say.
Mourinho for Arsenal.
What about if we could do like Mourinho did with Ibrahimovic, exchange him for half a team?
I really belive Arsenal would be a stronger team without CF i we could get, let’s say, Buffon, Yaya, Arteta and the next Vermaelen for the money.
apparently the insurance for arteta is already in place.
in addition to the ones you mentioned; petit and overmars. Petit had an awful time, Overmars did well.
Let him go! Bring in, Green/Mertesacker/Toulalan/Ireland. 1st team of Green/Sagna/Mertesacker/Vermealen/Clichy/Song/Ireland/Diaby/Nasri/Arshavin/Van-persie. Subs-Lukasz/Djourou/Eboue/Toulalan/Walcott/Bendtner/Chamakh. Squad-Vito/Campbell/Gibbs/Eastmond/Ramsey/Lansbury/Wilshere/Vela. Pretty awsome list of worlclass players and more importantly the right balance!
Let cf stay one more yr nd let’s get yaya, chamak nd a defender.
“If I EVER leave ARSENAL”. So its not set on stones yet.
He’s off. Fabragas hates it at Arsenal, as soon as wenger came out with the statement he would rather finish 3rd than win the FA cup that was it.
How that man is still employed by Arsenal is beyond me
Arsenal are a joke, Fans from other teams find it hysterical that Wenger actually thinks he can win the Champions League
Fact is Arsenal have gone so long without winning anything you would think Arsenal fans would resent him for being so fussy
Morning all
Rasp – I’ve sorted the double post 😛
Morning peaches – we’d decided to leave them both up as mine won’t be topical after today 😦
I don’t think I can now 😦
I’ll have a look
Morning Peaches I was trying to put one in draft but it would have none of it, computer been out of action for two days
Aicher, so thats the point when Cesc started to hate Wenger…thanks for clearing that one up…Tit
“aicher”your’e a complete & utter muppet-have the balls to come out & say your’e a spud/manc whatever-crawl back to your poxy blogs & wind your neck in-what’s 5 years ?it’s nothing-barca between 99-05 won f**k all!look at them now-we are up against 3 of the worlds richest clubs who spend dosh as if it’s water.stop shit stirring….
sent you an email peaches
Sorry rasp I’ve lost it 😦
Hi dandan, I saw you’ve emailed me something – thanks.
Wonder which rock Aicher crawled out from under. Probably a Spud, would be my guess. At a time when ManUre are broke and ‘Pool are entering a period of serious decline we need Wenger’s Arsenal more than ever to combat the dark forces of the sugar daddy brigade, epitomised by the Chavs and ManChavs. Whenever the top coaching jobs in Europe are vacant – whether it’s Real Madrid, Barca, Inter, AC Milan, Bayern, Arsene’s name is always at the top of the wish list. Actually I don’t even know why I’m honouring Aicher with a response, so I’ll stop here.
By the way team, I love the ‘at a glance’ list of rumoured transfer targets.
It’s both informative and kind of funny.
Am I on the right post for today.
Yes – I believe you are K. If not, you and I are communicating in a strange pocket of cyberspace,
Have to say Cup Final day today and Best of luck to both teams this afternoon.Strange that the F.A. Cup Final build up coverage has been rather tepid, considering it is still the greatest domestic cup competition in the world.Regardless who wins, I am sure the real winners will be the Pompey faithful, always fantastic support, and especially in this turbulent year they have had to encounter.
Looks like Gallas has gone, and quite honestly I am really not sure what Cesc’s last statement means. Is it a mixed metaphor (or am I using the wrong words)
Both teams being Avram Grant and Pompey 😉
I don’t think Cesc is going to go – but as BR points out, who really knows apart from the man himself?
I can only base my opinion on the fact that I am 100% convinced AW will seriously strengthen the squad this year and that he will certainly have confided in Cesc about his plans (to some degree at least).
Cesc will give it one more year to win something with the Arse.
So hard to intrpet the financial situation. One has to believe that the Highbury Square project, because of various reasons reduced our spending power, even if the club say it was ring fenced.I agree with you RL that we will strengthen more so than in previous years.
Senderos,Gallas and Merida and Silvestre are more than likely to go.I would also guess that Eduardo will go if we can get a reasonable price for him with Chamakh coming in, and then of course one of our 3 keepers will go or go out on loan if we really do buy a more reliable keeper.
I think Cesc will stay for another 2 years. We’ll win something next season – hopefully the premiership and then he’ll stay to defend the title.
On another note – there is a Renault Clio advert that I’m hearing all day on the radio featuring TH14 – lovely 😀
You know how william hill are doing odds for fabregas leaving…. well, couldn’t you make a fortune if you knew fabregas?
In fact. If people would already do that, then surely we just gotta see what the big spenders put their money on :b
Which radio station Peaches?
Fab has surely seen too many players leave us and just become another squad player earning more but not playing. I think he knows he wouldn’t get the treatment he gets with us anywhere else, even Barca. He doesn’t strike me as a player who is gonna chase the money or be happy with a winners medal without really contributing. Two more seasons with us and he will return to Barcelona but for now i think his head will tell him he’s better off with us.
Andy, couldn’t agree more.
hi..just want to ask,why with all you guys that keep saying that as if henry is in a failure when he move to barcelona..do you guys have any fact that, henry won all cups in football by joining barca..which is league title,FA n spanish cup, club world cup, world cup and euro with france and the most important CHAMPS LEAGUE..that he will never can achieve if he stay at arsenal..come on guys..he is of the player that have won everything in footbal..
RL and others. I agree.
We will not sell because of financial pressure, we are solvent. So it will be because Cesc is in the final year of his contract and as he is under contract until 2014, I am sure he will stay.
Hi Rocky – Capital FM have it on at least 4 times an hour – its put a smile on my face this week I can tell you, moving house is the pits 😦
I tried to find it on youtube to post it on here but only found the Va Va Voom adds – shame huh 😆
Henry coulda and shoulda won the champions league in 2006 with arsenal but ….. well you know how we got robbed.
Raddy – have you seen the stats? Off the graph 😛
Welcome The Fan – totally agree with you about winning the champs lge in 2006 – Thierry should have won it for us actually but lets not go there ……..
andy – good point about Cesc having seen other top players leave the club and not enjoy themselves much at their new club.
kelsey – are you about?
Thanks Peaches. House move – yuk. good luck with it.
Thanks rocky – all done now just surrounded by boxes aaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh
Can’t believe you mentioned the brilliant Phil Lynott! You better you better you bet(The Who:)) Cesc ain’t leavin’.
Come the start of next season, when Cesc and Arshavin run out on to the pitch for the first game, we’ll all be able to say: “The boys are back in town!”
Seriously though I completely agree with Andy, Cesc won’t leave for a couple of years or so… Greetings from a Slovenian Gooner
i do not nlame cesc if wenger does not buy big experience players to compete then i that this boys must go because arsenal is just like child s play wasting people s time then in the meantime making money for themselves
Fact is Arsenal have gone so long without winning anything you would think Arsenal fans would resent him for being so fussy
kenny 😆
would love some of what you are on.
cesc, we’re “still in love with you” so “baby please dont go”, “are you ready” for the barca bench it would be the “angel of death” to your sparkling career, these ideas of barca – “you got to give it up” dude. stay at the home of football till the “sun goes down” and i’ll be “dancing in the moonlight”!
and all you spuds vermin infiltrators – go do one!
Excellent Tommy 🙂
Poor Kenny. Repetitive and surely an N17 loser. Probably anally retentive as well.
Greaga. Greetings to you. Welcome to the site
totally pmsl, ITV commentator has conclusively proved why they are anti goal line technology
after 15 secs and first replay… definately in
after 30 secs and second replay… maybe not, not sure
lol
I’ve just turned on the footy – have Pompey had any of the play?
missed the biggest sitter of the game… and when you see kalous open goal miss from 2 yrds you will understand how bad it was.
chelski are hexed in this game beyond belieft, never ever seen so many chances hit the post/crossbar, sitters missed, ball almost over the line etc
great entertainment.
Sounds like a fix to me. All the Chavmongers have probably had a massive bet on Pompey at 11/1. Watch out for more glaring misses from the Chavs.
I just saw the chav chances, can’t believe its still 0-0
Glaring misses eh – what fun 😆
This is unbelievable, and both keepers have made sensational saves, and the woodwork is making the difference to a Wigan type score.
Play up Pompey…..
The goalpost is having a sensational game…
SHOCKING!!
😆 Kanu is “33” – yeah, whatever!!
What was shocking Irish. The Drogba headbutt? It was a penalty.
And Boateng must be feeling pig sick. He cost them the Final ….. whatever the score ends up
I’ll name them one to five what was shocking:
1. The amount of times Chelsea hit the cross bar.
2. Didane (spelling)
3. That Terry got left off without a card.
4. the penalty’s or attempt at taking them
5. James’ jersey 😕
Pompey fans must be the best fans ever, look at them still waving their flags – you have to feel for them 😦
Just smashed through 5,000 hits – maybe we should just write posts about Cesc 🙄
Or other such wonderful headlines like “Gallas is going” 🙄
Wonderful ovation for Avram Grant. I welled up
Didn’t see it Raddy I turned off the television, couldn’t watch the chavs lift two trophies in one week.
Grant is a good bloke, would be a good manager for West Ham or the like.
LOL. I wrote the headline first and the rest was just padding !!!
I think it is the worst post I have written. But then the Sun outsells all the quality papers, so perhaps there is a message there for me.
Great call Irish.
It wasn’t a pop at you Raddy but I’m sure you know that 😉 just that you could write a university standard thesis on Arsenal and our economic standing but you’re guaranteed 20 times the reads if its about a player coming or going.
Basically transfers win every time.
I know Irish, and don’t worry, I am not that sensitive.
Thankfully we are not a hit based blog, more a friendly place for a chat.
I really feel for Boateng, that miss will haunt him for the rest of his life. Prior to that he had a decent game.
Avram Grant – what a gentleman 🙂 and what a smart suit 🙂
To be fair Ancelotti seems a decent sort as well.
That he does Irish. He must be so ashamed to be surrounded by such a bunch of sinners.
I wonder what Abramovich will do now? He has achieved all his targets for the team apart from the CL-
They have won the Double and done it playing entertaining football. IMO they are the best team in Europe ATM.
Thinking of money. This is unlikely but …..
MC want success and want it now. Buffon is a great GK and probably the biggest name signing available this summer. Givens is good but not in his league, nor is Hart.
If MC are to really splash the cash, they could buy Buffon, keep Hart on the bench and sell Given ….. to us 🙂
He’ll go all out for the Champions League Raddy in that, that is all he has left to do.
Chelsea are a good side but to be honest personally I think it shows a weakening of sides that they got beat so often this season that it does an actual improvement by other sides. Like, Spuds only got a CL spot because Liverpool were so awful.
Ha ha Raddy I’d take that.
Hate to say it, but if true he’s a good signing for the spuds.
I think that is harsh Irish. Over 100 goals in a season is exceptional.
I like to think that the average quality in the PL has risen. Though the CL results would indicate otherwise, the fact that 2 English teams got to the SF of the Europa is very positive.
The Spuds could well (unfortunately) surprise people. I expect them to get to the last 8 in the CL.
Not denying what they did was good at all Raddy but personally I don’t feel the standard of football this season was as good as in the past – I mean that in a European and international sense.
I know this is a football site but I just bought something on ebay and then found more of the exact same thing for cheaper 👿 – just had to have a little rant about that!!
Cannot be true. Spuds don’t need another winger. They have Bale on one side and Lennon/Bentley on the other. Though Bale could play deeper.
And if AFC wanted him, which we don’t (AW has been clear about the areas of the team to be strengthened), we would have signed him.
Aaah, the wonders of Ebay. I just bought a laptop battery and discovered it has a 6 week delivery time!
But I have to say that I love Ebay and have made some super buys.
Perhaps we could sell Fabianski on there?
I don’t believe anything till I see them in a shirt and considering the whole Robinho -> Chelsea debacle, until they kick a ball but whoever gets Arda Turan is getting a good little player.
I should get what I ordered in 6 days but the volcano will probably hold it up, but I don’t need till October anyway which is just as well. I ordered something while in Australia and it got caught up in the volcano and was delayed by three weeks, it only arrived during the week by which time I was back in Ireland so now I’m getting it posted to Ireland – will I ever get it? Who knows 😆
I don’t think they’d give us our minimum of €0.01…
Ebay is excellent.
Irish. You have inspired me. I am off to Ebay to look for a Martin Guitar & something for my wife ..
Nice to chat and cyber-speak tomorrow.
Ha ha hope you find what your looking for Raddy 😀
Ovamars,Van Bronchoust,Hleb and now Henry all were tempted by barca move bt after secured their signatures they become victims, victims of warming the bench, carry other players shoes and eventualy released to find other low profile clubs.Etoo, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo all gave their all to tht club bt eventually they were treated like street dowg. Maybe Cesc will be special coz he belong there in his native home bt i don’t thng he will break through the 1st team ahead of Xavi n Iniesta.
Ooh Raddy – a Martin, the best acoustics money can buy IMO, I’m jealous 😳
Let CF move to Barca their is no points of keeping in a team that is satisfied to finish 3 rd. Also CF would bring another big money to be able to buy qualities player while he would keep the bench warm. Actually CF is not going to be missed that much and once he goes Wenger too would move, Good riddance he has reached the points of no return in my book after last three years of lies and garbage. Au Revoir
Welcome 7masters,
All you supporters who are suggesting that Cesc should go, should give it one last summer of transfers. It would be a crime to let our best player go if we are really about to buy some quality players to bolster the squad.
I know I shouldn’t say it, but it is inconceivable that we will have another season of injuries similar to the last. Our best 11 (hardly seen this year) is only 2/3 players short of being good enough to win the Premiership.
Cesc is one of the top 3 players in the PL. Do you honestly think we can replace him, when he and maybe 2 or 3 others are the lynchpin to making the team tick.I hope he stays, though I know all players are replaceable but we are already understrength, and IMO one can’t just pluck a replacement out of the air, even if we have sufficent funds.
Remember he learned most of his trade with serious pros around him, we don’t have that luxury anymore.
Just to add to that comment ,Chelsea and City and to an extent United, and even Spurs will be looking to better their squads, and all of them can outbid us for any player that comes available.
I don’t envy Wenger’s job at the moment to address the right balance, and now to hear from various alleged reports that there is more disruption at the Club. All this is unsettling to everyone concerned.
I feel worse way Cesc and Wenger will have one more season with us, but the task of winning the title will be far more difficult than it was 5 years ago.
Hi kelsey,
I’m not sure that the spuds will be able to attract top class players and they may lose some of their better players (Bale)after the season they’ve just had.
Citeh’s buys have been pretty poor up to now but maybe their new manager (?) will have the gravitas to attract the world-class players they can afford.
Manure are in a worse financial situation to us and will probably have to sell Berbatov at a massive loss.
7Masters – why do you assume the team (and manager for that matter) are satisfied with finishing third?
They were quite obviously devastated to have failed to do better this year.
Kelsey, this summer we will be financially competitive with every PL club except the ‘financial doping’ pair of Chavs and Citeh.
Guys I know he is our best player but he has gone missing with injury in last two seasons at crucial moments. CF need at least two more seasons with Arsenal or he is looking at long time bench warming in Barca.
Another Reasons Barca always seek Arsenal players is also very mean way of keeping us under strength, imagine they took key players when we needed them hence if Wenger is that weak not to fend off these then he should go.
If it was another manager he would have reported them long time ago and they wod have heeded the message, but no one respect Wenger hence everyone take advantage .
One thing is clear for all to see that Wenger is never goner win anything with Gunners. The reasons his team is not balance or are missing real defensive spine and squad depth. Plus he is not doing anyhing about and it almost like waiting to be punched by school bully helpless. One word can describe Wenger’ Senile’ and Fergie must laughing his head off with Sylvester business.
Sell CF, Buy new players in key areas Goalie defense, both offensive, defensive midfield good wingers full stop. Also bring new backroom staff, assistant manager and delegete coaching on defence, Goalies to real proffesionals. It would save him to much stress and he would be to retire a legend.
But knowing Wenger he is his own worse enemy and sooner he goes the better, all crap that players are attracted to Arsenal due to him is hogwash. Most players come for easy money and they don’t have to win anything for it. Also Arsenal would even beat Chelsea, United with wages bill easily and are not far away .
Watching Arsenal is truly painful experience cause even now they cannot play their usual game anymore. It just square or sideways all day nothing enjoyable.
Evening all got the puter back working thank god. 7masters so CF wont be missed, wenger should go, Personally I hope neither of those things happen, Sir Alex would give a fortune to get Cesc and Arsene could pick his job in any football playing country,
So they must have something going for them.
7masters,
I think you are making a mistake in thinking that we need to sell Cesc to be able to buy new players. Reserve judgement, give it to the end of the summer – you may be pleasantly surprised.
7M, you could not be more wrong.
As has been well documented on this site and elsewhere, our difficulties in recent years have been financial.
Now we have paid off all of the high-interest debt and we are in a position to spend significant money, which we will do this year.
Wenger has had to trumpet ‘project youth’ because he couldn’t go round for the last five years saying “sorry, we’re skint so we’ll muddle along the best we can.” Ih he’d done that the few signings we did land would never have come on board.
No other manager could have kept a team in the top four every year while spending net zero on transfers while every rival has been spending hundreds of millions. Look at the hype for the big-spending Spuds for scraping fourth place this year.
Sorry mate, but yours is the sort of short-sighted, knee-jerk reaction that usually denotes a newbie fan who grew up thinking that trophy success was a God given right.
7masters “Gone missing?”!!!, He broke his bloody leg,What do you want blood, The man gives 110% do we have a harder worker.
rasp – in case we don’t speak, have a look in drafts and think about which post to put up tomorrow
Have you settled down with a bottle of wine amid the chaos yet Peaches?
Hi peaches,
They’re both very good and knowing the authors, they won’t mind who goes first – so I’ll leave it up to you 😆
For what it’s worth, mine is not time sensitive…
LOL neither is mine
Told you 😛
LOL
Mind you, after today, whichever post goes up should probably be re-titled as “Buffon Signs.” 10,000 hits guaranteed.
I joke, of course. Whenever sites use those fake tags to pull in eyeballs I immediately cross them off my go-to list!
How about Buffoons Read, “Buffon signs” post’s sounds like a post for next week Rocky.
Fantastic Dandan – love it.
If it’s as good as his brilliant post about Peter Storey I humbly nominate Dandan’s.
6711 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha 7masters. If I were an incredibly talented young footballer I too would deliberately break my leg in order to go missing for the end of season run-in. AW has his failings i would agree but its obvious he just aint got the cash to spend. All we can do is hope this year he has because if we can see we are 3-4 short then its a safe bet that so can Arsene.
[…] Cesc is Staying! I want to make a decision about my future before the World Cup” “If I ever leave Arsenal it will be to play […] […]
Looking at things as they stand now:
Players who are on their way OUT:
Gallas
Silvestre
Senderos
Between the 3 of them Wenger has at least 100k per week in wages to play with when he’s finding a replacement or 2.
Players who have been on LOAN:
Wilshire
Emmanual Thomas
Barazite
Simpson
Lansbury
Randall
Sunu
Nordtveit
Botelho
Bartley
Ayling
Watt
Szczesny
Gilbert
Hoyte
Murphy
New Signings:
Chamake
So although it’s all doom & gloom again in the media’s post season analysis for the club I personally don’t see it that way.
Wenger has already addressed the issue of losing V.Persie promptly by adding some extra fire power.
He’s publicly stated that he will also strenghten the defense. Last season he got Vermaele in when Toure left. Let’s hope he can do the same again with Gallas.
As for the Goal keeping debacle, we’re all hoping Wenger shows some intent here when he brings in a new no. 1. It’s time Fabianski went on loan and about time that Almunia was demoted to the no. 2 spot with Manonne occupying the third spot.
As far as the Cesc rumours go I hope he doesn’t leave but if he were to go this Summer we would be first in line to pick up Yaya Toure and some serious cash to find an experienced quality replacement.
Wenger does have the option of using Rosicky, Nasri or Arshavin in that role and instead buying a winger. Who knows?
But my educated guess is based on the fact that Wenger has stated that more than 3 additions to a squad at any one time is risky. So for that reason I reckon that Fab4 will have to stay(1 more year at least) and we’ll get a central defender (to cover Gallas – Djourou in for Silvestre) and a new no. 1 keeper.
Whether it is this year or next,or even at a push the year after, we all know that Cesc is leaving. Is he a captain we should build a young side around? Tell me the captain of any other top club who openly professes to want to join another club?
Barca are going to buy David Villa in less than a week. They will look to offload Ibra- but will find they have lost big money if they follow through. Ibra will not go to moneybags City. Barca are also after a left back. How much will be left in the kitty for Cesc (bear in mind the financial crisis in Spain)? Cesc is a prestige signing- not a player they currently need. Barca will also try to offload a dud-i.e. a player they do not need- to reduce the cost. Barca will try to unsettle Cesc to reduce the price, – but this is a dangerous game to play because if Cesc pushes to go- he could well find himself going to the highest bidder- and that almost certainly wont be Barca. It could get interesting if Madrid come in with a big bid after Cesc has said he wants to go. Unless of course uncle Arsene comes to his rescue and gives him away for a ridiculous 35m Euros.
gday all,
watched the eden hazard you tube video the other day, we should sign him to be our marque player for the future! he looks awesome!
cant wait for the trades to start happening!
Fear not my young padawan goonballs I am not going to Barca yet. Maybe in a couple of years I might.
Whatever happens at least we have the two best keepers in the league and Silvestre.
Almunia is God.
May the goon be with you.
Rockylives@
I know they are devastated to be that close then lose at Brummie well it lose anyway, then shock horror Wigan, not to mention other games where they lose after leading 2-0 with few minutes to go Etc.
But what we cannot forgive is his usual excuses for a team who don’t make any effort, then saying third place is better than FA cup? He says wrong things at wrong times knowing full well Arsenal media would spin it to their advantage.
I actually believe sometimes he make decisions that team never recover, etc playing reserve against United in quarter final. It remind of Brown half time lecture hull never recovered. That freefall from that game is still going for Arsenal and eventually cost wenger his job.
Lack of effort and trying to prove a points despite clear evidence the team was defensively weak, stubborness, tantrums when losing instead of tactics, praising crap players, playing players in wrong positions. Simply his mistakes are to many to mention here.
Let hope he stay for two years with CF then we can for ourself. Don’t hold your breath of a turn around unless he heed advice to buy key players.
We are broke due to the Stadium and if Wenger, The Board told us to suffer for a while for success we would have accepted it. But to tell lies after lies while claiming his present team ate the real when they are nit is why we all disaponted.
I know someone said we are going to sell players every year to keep up and these has actually happened from day Viera left us, then henry, hlelb then now it CF.
7masters. It seems to me that you make a decision about something and then search for evidence to back it up. A reasoned opinion looks at the facts and then decides.
Where are the facts to back up yur argument. You say the players are “lazy”, this is definitely not the case. If you compare the amount our players run compared to that of the opposition, you will see that they are not “lazy”, quite the contrary. They are also the fittest side in the PL.
Lack of effort. Sorry but again where is the evidence.
You base this upon what you have read on the D&G blogs, 10 minutes against Wigan, and Denilson not tracking back (…. once)
That said, you have written a fine comment and one I have given much thought to. However, I completely disagree with your conclusions.
Your club finishes 3rd, so under normal circumstances you think, we can get glory. Its ours if we want it. But then when you factor in the Wenger/Board factor = we may as well be 1,000 km away 😉 with those pig headed old farts.
Do you think that when the mancs celebrated their Carling Cup win they thought they weren’t going to win anything else? Poor season for them too really ……..
Morning all
There is a NEW POST
7M – the one thing I’ll agree with you on is that it was daft of Wenger to say that finishing third is better than winning the FA Cup. In one way of looking at it (financial strength and the ability to compete with the financially doped clubs) he is 100% right – it is more important to stay in the CL than to win a cup. IF we won the FA Cup but dropped out of the CL our prospects would be much more at risk. But to supporters who feel starved of success it was a bit of a crass thing to say.
So, although AW was right, he would have been better not to say it.
But I do get cross when people deliberately misinterpret his words to say that he thinks finishing third is fine. He doesn’t.
Fab’s comment about wanting his future sorted before the w/c is that he wants to know the clubs plan for strenghtening the team to real title contenders, wants to know if it will still be left to him to carry the team by himself. He loves the club but he is not prepared to go another season watching other teams pick up trophies, it’s not about money for him, he is a winner and wants to win trophies for Arsenal but if he is not convinced it will happen, starting next season, he will be off. Even though he is from Catalunia he was hurt by the way Arsenal were humiliated by Barca.
Guys the team is let down by few players and I personally do not blame them at all. But it strange that Our unbeaten hero Goalie Lehman made few mistakes and he was deemed surplus to requirement, Wenger was ruthless and he should be same with Both Aluminia, Fabianski, or Arshavin whose body language shows someone who want out. One player I cannot fir life me understand is Diaby he has become liabilty and cost big games yet wenger never said one word about it. I know he does not like to go for players in public but Diaby should be read riot act and benched.
It also seem just when Nicky is showing good goal instinct the supply line dried up completely, Playing Walcott on wings is simply pointless. How about putting him middle or free role to run into between centre halfs. On the wing it easy to block him cause his ball movement is predictable. The right, left back are probably the best but they lack one thing how to cross.
Thomas has been rock solid and failure to buy centre back to play with him despite knowing full well Gallas alone is not good, Campbell Is okay but we needed someone to able to last longer.
These mistakes have been clear over last three seasons and if Wenger tried to do something about by even buying cheap players instead of trying to compete with big money teams. Many defenders where snapped for cheap prices by likes of Everton to name few. I actually believe their are quality players who can develop and make big difference in defence make difference to the team.
Their is no points of signing youth players when the team need proper cover. Trying to say you would only sign top players when board has decided to tie your hand in a knot is not good. The manager should work with the limited budget and get players he need down the line some may become household names player in prestige club like Arsenal.
But to depend in reserve, youth when they are not ready is actually damaging them mentality, factor in the lack if trophy the pressure become even worse to points confusion reign when big games comes.
