The Dream Lives On

Many Arsenal supporters are in mourning at the perceived death of a dream following our Champions League football lesson at the hands of Barcelona.

But is the dream dead? Even if we lose to spuds on Wednesday and don’t get any higher in the league than third, is the dream dead?

Does the devastation of our squad caused by top players suffering injury mean the dream has become a nightmare? Or is it as I believe, just a quick brutal glimpse of reality, a moment of wakefulness in a long night of dreaming.

The dream is still intact; those key players apart from poor Aaron Ramsey are approaching fitness. We will have a fully fit squad for the new season. But it may be a significantly different squad come pre-season if Wengers hints and countless media reports are to be believed. Some existing players will have left and been replaced by new top-level signings

This squad has shown such fortitude. It will be further hardened mentally by the rigours of this astonishing season, having been written off before it even started as not worthy of even a top four finish and with no chance of a Champions League place. This view has been reiterated, further enhanced and spewed out as a fact – an almost certainty by the delighted media each time we lost, as lose we did in the four games against our championship rivals.

Yet, each time this side picked itself up, ignoring the injuries that would have crushed a lesser team to follow the dream and here we are, certain to finish at least third, with the distinct possibility, whisper it quietly, of winning the thing.

So as the song says ‘you got to have a dream, if you don’t have a dream, how you going to have a dream come true?’

My dream certainly hasn’t died, whether we win the league or not, we are a million miles from where we started the season and the progress to me is tangible.

So Gooners what is your dream?  Who should go, who should get promoted to the squad and who, given the obvious restraints on Arsène’s spending should we buy?

What would you do to make the dream come true?

Brave post dandan, the polarisation of views after tuesday is as great as ever.

Upliftuing post there Dandan, it’s much appreciated, my Arsenal drema is we smash the Spuds thne they go no a winning run and get 4th but mess up in the pre-qualifiers; my non Arsenal dream invilves Scarlett Johannsen, Sarah Lee and large amounts of lube, but I’ll stop there…

I’ve said this elsewhere, but i think it’s worth repeating Maire : So there is a god, 3-0 and you f***ed it up you mank cnuts! And the hypocrite old whisky nose moans about players surrounding refs get someone sent off? Then he says that’s “typical germans” – will the hacks pick up on that and rightly take him to task? Of course not, all the press and media here are so far up his sphincter they haven’t seen daylight since the 1980’s!
Will everyone say “Whingeing Fergie” – no chance! And the so-called “mastermind of tacticial genius” f***ed up by aggravating the shrek’s injury trying another one of his crummy “mind games” – “No chance” for Rooney to play yesterday, how pathetic, how feeble.
Ha ha ha, now sod off back to Jocko land you senile old scots c**t!

  4. Iceman's avatar Iceman says:

Yes!! At last a blog from a true Gooner. We were written of more times than a junk yard car, yet still we kept going. I can remember way back in August, Sky Sports and that stain Phil Thompson stating that ‘there’s only a top three, Arsenal are nowhere.’ That typified the crass, one-sided moronic nature of 98% of the media towards Arsenal. You are right, we do need to spend. I have watche Chamakh on numerous occasions and he looks handy-plus he would be free. Doubtless we need to strengthen the defence, possibly with 2 or three additions, plus a midfield enforcer.

My dream is that I wake up on the day after the final fixture with a mental picture in my head of Alan ‘you’ll never win anything with kids’ Hansen choking on his weetabix! We are Arsenal, and since the untouchables everyone is jealous of us. They react like thugs on the field and complete tossers off it.

    I love Arsenal. Nuff said!

Chary – I’ve never agreed more with a post.

Fu€k the alcoholic and his one man team. What a strike by Robben, he was teeing it up for like 5 seconds and the manc defenders just look at him like knobs ha ha

  8. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

If that was Gibbs for Rafael it’d be everywhere how “immature” Arsenal are, he kicked out and then pulled Ribery back = idiot.

  9. Ralph du Plessis's avatar Ralph du Plessis says:

Almunia – Not good enough as first choice
    Silvestre – Not good enough
Eduardo – Maybe one more season to see if he can get his mojo back.
Senderos – Permanently scarred by Drogba

Campbell & Gallas are nice to have around, but we need someone younger as first choice to partner the Verminator.

Anyone else who doesn’t want to be here may as well get offloaded too.

My dream too is “a picture in my head of Alan ‘you’ll never win anything with kids’ Hansen choking on his weetabix!”

Morning Rasp, I thought my mild displeasure at the old Toilet crowd was well masked…

Exactly Maire, wenger woud have been lsated for playing a youngster and labelled the “nutty proifessor” again.

I hopew Sir Drinksalot is well into his 3rd crate of Highland Malt by now…the git.

  11. Rasputin's avatar Rasputin says:

    Morning Ralph and welcome,

I’d agree with most of what you say. I think Gallas can be good for us for one more season, but we should look for a replacement who can interchange with him as I don’t think we can expect a full season out of Gallas (assuming he signs an extension). Djourou is the unknown quantity – would/could he be good enough given a run of games in the side?

  12. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

😆 washed down with a whole load of bitter ice Chary

  13. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

What is up with Djourou’s injury? Will he play at the World Cup?

  14. brdgunner's avatar brdgunner says:

The most frustrating thing for me is that we are told our squad is not big enough by the press. Who said Liverpool yes two man Liverpool would win finish clear of us. They also state that UTD are the platform, which is funny cnsidering the panic around the club if Rooney gets injured. And Chelsea may win the league this year but without investment they wont win anything next year certianly not the league.

I would like a Goal Keeper as everyone around the club would. CB’s depend on who leaves, it looks like we have a forward in Chamak. And do we need a midfielder?

Maybe, I wouldn’t mind Scott Parker added to the squad.

  15. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I don’t know Irish, that’s the sort of question I usually ask you – the font of all knowledge!

The club have gone pretty quiet on RVP soon. I am expecting the PR boys to parade Ramsey on the pitch soon pre-game when they need a boost/diversion

  16. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

    Can we afford Messi???

  17. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Hi brdgunner,

Lloris was very impressive again yesterday, I’d say he would be a bargain for £15m at the age of 22 and already a top keeper. Funnily, I mentioned Scott Parker earlier in the week. He has a fantastic engine but he is also a good footballer and would add grit to our midfield.

  18. Of course we can afford Messi 😉

Morning Irish, you and chary make a great partnership.

Fantastic but do we need to need to sell the stadium to buy him? LOL

Rasp – Lloris is good but he is prone to the odd rush of blood and makes the odd bad decision.

  22. chary as an extra treat we were going to use the 2nd half of your mank rant tomorrow so you might want to save some of your vitriol 😆

  23. Irish you must have been grinning all day 😆

  24. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Morning Peachy, I think me and Maire are of a similar mind re. the Manks. Are you happy to edit the 2nd bit of the rant or do you want me to fiddle around with it a bit and update it as it’s easy to tell when it was written, i.e. pre-Brum away?

  26. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Yes Peaches Yes I was

    Rasp – Shay Given?

Ha ha I know what you mean though, I’d not at all be adverse to Lloris or Akinfeev turning up at the Emirates over the summer.

  27. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

” If Arsenal messed up a 3-0 lead like that, the press would be all over it about how kids dont get you anywhere
and if it was Chelsea.. about how money dont get you anywhere
but since its United.. its the Typical germans fault.. and the ref..”

  28. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Stop winding me up Irish 😉 you know I’ve been moaning for over a year because we didn’t sign Given, we would be top of the league if we’d snapped him up before citeh even knew they were being bought out.

  29. chary – in truth, I haven’t looked at it since we split it up shall I email it back to you and you can have a fiddle around with it.

    So true Irish, so true……..

Don’t you just love it when they mess up – only I have got a very sad mank child moping around my house, he was already on a downer after they lost last tueday and then again against the chavs – pretty inconsolable now 😦 😦 😦

  30. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

    CHANGES:-
In.. some backroom staff that can stop our injury nightmare
In… a new world class keeper
In… a worldclass centreback with gallas/djorou as back up
In… Vermaelen to be made vice captain
    In… Chamach
In… A work hard ethic pressing game
In… 5 wins on the bounce and a premiership crown.
Out… Eduardo – he’s lost it, and i’m really sorry about that.
Out… Arshavin if he doesn’t start to smile and get rid of his moody pants.
Out… Lazy backing off and letting another team play.
    Out… football commentry. It sucks.
Out… ManUtd 2010/11 rooney leaves for a better club = 0 man team… No top four place replaced by liverpool!

  37. Morning tommy some excellent points there starting with ‘backroom staff that can stop our injury nightmare’

I’d love to be able to find a physio to come on that could give us their take on the injury crisis we seem to never be out of.

  38. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Hi tommy,

It’s funny, you can say all those things and some fans will accuse you of being negative – but were they to happen, they would all be viewed as positive changes 😛

  39. Irish – couldn’t you become a physio, just as useful as a journo …….

  45. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

    Chary knows too much 😆

  46. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I agree about the ‘hard work’ ethic tommy. It was disappointing that Barça seemed to work harder than us – that’s always what you expect from the underdog. I think we were tired but maybe that’s an excuse.

tiring after 60mins of hardwork is acceptable, if there aint no hardwork evident then thats what i question….

  50. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

hey guys i got a few liners i would like to discuss with y’all. i posted this on another blog already

    ******************************************************
our squad is rubbish in summary

fine no cesc but i doubt the outcome would have changed

3 of our back 4 on the night were from our ‘first 11′

if nasri is an able deputy for cesc like many think he is then it means only Song was missing from midfield

in attack since VP injury NikiB has been seen as first choice

theo the great blackwhite english hope should be good enough to start for us that is based on our squad only same with rosicky

the 11 that night was not far away from our ‘first 11′ in terms of how close the fringe players who featured that night are to the first team bar silvestre

what was wenger thinking when he bought that player?

when u shop at primark dont expect Ralph Lauren quality?

most times in life u get what u pay for
    *****************************************************

  51. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

    *******************************************************
I saw Busquets the other day and thought this guy is quite frail but very technically good and intelligent yet he doesnt look out of sorts defensively in defensive midfield and he has played not only against us but Inter, Manu and chelsea in the last 12 months

the thing is Barca defend as a team meaning that any defensive limitations a player has is not easily exposed as they work together closing down players, space, passing angles etc

they also keep the ball well mostly out possessing their opposition meaning that moments of panic are reduced

there is no rocket science if we want to be great again barca are the team to emulate

we need to sort our off the ball game then we can then look into signings
    ***************************************************

  52. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Well Maureen won’t make the mistakes we made. He knows how to defend and he knows how to negate the oppositions strengths.

  53. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

    ******************************************************
loosing to barca was beyond squad depth injuries etc

we lost the desire challenge to them over 180 mins

    also lost the committment challenge

we lost the ‘how prepared are we for this’ challenge

    and so many more

injuries are p and p of the game we cant keep complaining

we virtually ran gallas to the ground like we did last year and the year b4 cos we never had any decent back up CB

we knew VP was injured for most of the season 2 months b4 the window and wenger kept his faith in bendtner who featured the other night

Song was suspended so has himself to blame

We should have enough players ready to step in to replace Arshavin. you would have thought Rosicky would be able to deputise

Bottom line is bar injuries and transfer policies Wenger got schooled by a rookie manager cos he doesnt pay enough attention to other aspects of the game like defending
    *****************************************************

  54. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Not too sure to be honest Tommy.

Messi was quite enough at the Emirates and while I’m not taking an ounce away from any goal he scored against us, how much room did we give him?

Maicon will have a long 180mins that’s for sure AND Iniesta is back….

  55. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

… actually, we didn’t really make mistakes, we just had no other options with theplayers availabe – we could have worked harder off the ball.

  56. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

    dandan

Thats happy talky talky happy talk, talking about things I’d like Arsene to do. Well 2 really sharp types up front that score coz they must would give The Arsenal the edge 😀

  57. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Franchise – I don’t think (worryingly) that Rosicky can play two games in a week…

  58. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

Ahhhhh!!! South Pacific the 1st film I saw @ the Drive In

  59. Franchise – not much there I disagree with – not paying enough attention to defending and having good defenders in the squad has let us down against the the big boys all season long.

Song was the most important miss the other night IMO and he was injured not suspended. Had Song been fit I think AW would have started with Sol and had the option to drop Song into defence when Sol needed to come off.

I hope either Sol or Song would have cleared the ball out of the area with more aggression.

  60. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Hi Franchise,

    It’s back to basics then!

  61. nice, spirited post, dandan.

  62. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Silvestre surely wasn’t bought to play against the likes of Barça. When it became apparent that he would be called upon for games that were beyond his ability, we could have made more effort to find a replacement.

  63. AW has always believed IMO that we don’t need to defend as a team as the objective is to outscore the opposition. Now he knows first hand that defending in packs like Barcelona did the other night is just as important as attacking with speed.

  64. peaches – we were defending in packs earlier this season, watch some of that everton game again.

closing down high up the pitch was how we scored 3 of the 6 goals.

our invinvicibles side were magnificent at pressing.

    wenger has always taught that.

  65. I agree SH we WERE defending in packs, we were closing the ball down and then suddenly we stopped. Why did we stop and why wasn’t that problem addressed?

  66. He may have taught it but he hasn’t reinforced it for a long time. The Everton game was in August last year!!!!!!

  67. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Morning all, Chucked that together last night cos peaches needed a post.

Am interested to see that there is no call among you to promote any of the JW generation nor any thought as to who should be sold to raise some cash.

  68. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Evening Irish

Are you still on the mainland or have you gone back?

  69. it started in august, peaches

i can’t remember exactly when we stopped pressing so aggresively, but it was around xmas time.

  70. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

oh i see peaches i thought Song was suspended. we made too many errors that night. i reckon the first 3 barca goals were avoidable

we were very poor still. we not compact enough when we press

do we really train these things?

the fitness levels of barca players is amazing

    its an attitude thing IMO

u can tell that the expectations the barca manger sets for his players is very high.

the emirates creche needs to be shaken up

we cant continue to loose poorly and look like kids against the so called big clubs of which we should be one

many have called for it in recent months. I think we need a defensive coach.

we conceed too many avoidable goals look at birmingham for instance

  71. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

I reckon there is enough cash, I just don’t think there is enough will to actually get their man/men.

  72. A few of basics have gone out the window …..

The players don’t show for the ball – no-one comes for throw-ins or to help a player out of a tricky situation

When we lose the ball only certain players will go to try and win it back

Instead of trying to win the ball some players swing a leg to try and put the opposition off – thats not going to work against a top class player

  73. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Morning dandan, it is a well crafted post and I think creates the right atmosphere to discuss the situation devoid of hysteria.

  74. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Evening GG9 still on the mainland for another few weeks then heading back to Eire.

4:30am wake-ups 😯 but it was worth it this morning ha ha

  75. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I see no-one is entertaining the possibility of Cesc going in the summer. Stranger things have happened … it may not be a case of him wanting to go, but us deciding to sell him.

The other potential cloud on the horizon is .. how many of our players are going to get injured in the WC? … RvP, Cesc, Theo etc etc

  76. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

All the really, really good teams in the past have one really stand out player, i.e Barca-Messi, manu- Ronaldo, Arsenal-Henry, Barca-Ronaldinho, Real Madrid-Zidane, Arsenal-George, etc,etc 🙂

  77. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Rasp – We’d sell Arshavin before Cesc IMO

  78. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

I slept like a log last night Irish let me tell you. I couldn’t stop thinking about the barca match the night before, then as you say up @ 4.30am 😯

  79. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Just a final point – for all the sickening sycophancy Fergie gets from all & sundry, this season he’s just one point & one fizzy cup better than us.
The way the media shysters go on, you’d think Lord Ferige of Govan invented the f***ing game.

  80. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Irish, I have an inkling AA is on his way whatever happens with Cesc. Maybe a buy-out clause in his contract? I can’t see anyone paying more than he cost us … he’s a year older and not exactly had an outstanding season.

  81. I think we stopped pressing before that – I think by the time of the City game we started to ball watch the oppo. That was the 12th of September!!!!!!

When we play against lesser teams it probably doesn’t matter because we feel they are going to give the ball away anyway but against stronger opposition its vital.

  82. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

LOL GG9 I got a terrible fright when my alarm went off this morning, I was “what the hell is that noise” ha ha I’ve only SBS here so watched the Lyon game, then delayed highlights of the Manc game, it was bliss 🙂

  83. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Raspers – I don’t see Cesc as going in the summer because Wenger has put so much of his reputation on the line about keeping him, he is exceptionally stubborn as you know and he’d walk before Cesc was sold without his say so. It’s the old combination of bored hacks and Barca election time that generates these stories ad nauseum.
The Adebayor/Touyre sales were –as you know – for attitude problems and personality clash reasons respectively.

  84. But why wait until you’re playing against poorer teams to press – make it part of the normal game then you don’t have to step up when you play the mancs and the chavs

  85. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Chary – We are one and the same. I really hate this bullshit that he is the “best manager ever” he hasn’t managed outside Britain for heavens sake….

Rasp – you could be right, I’m going to stop getting names on the back of my shirts, I jinx them all. Platt, Rosicky, Eduardo (albeit he was already injured), Arshavin and I got “Unbeaten 49” and how long after did we go without a win?…….

  86. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Now Irish

As you have lived here long enough, & Ireland had that most unfortunate experience with TH14, you’d have to be supporting Oz in the World Cup?

  87. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

The ‘Andy Abrahams’ rumour pointed to one of the very big names – so I’m guessing AA. I don’t want Cesc to leave, I think he’ll stay for a couple more years. Isn’t AW due to be entering into talks to extend his contract (or not 😦 ) this summer?

  88. striker's avatar striker says:

Arsenal under AW only play attacking soccer. They can’t play the stifling game ome teams do to nullify a stronger team. When the gunners played against Chelsea and MU this season and last season they were well beaten. Why?The gunners playing style is easily neutralised by the suffocating way employed by the two teams.Against Barca Arsenal wer easily out manourved and humiliated. If they had not conceded so much time and space I doubt Messi could have scored four goals ,great player as he is.

  89. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

we need to sort out ourselves quickly or our best players would really start considering leaving

  90. Of course Cesc isn’t going anywhere – mind you I said that about Vieira and Henry 😦

  91. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Raspers, I thought that the Andy Abrahams rumour was about a player leaving “that would make The Arsenal fans sad” – for me that means either Eduardo or Eboue. I didn’t think it was necessarily a famous, star player.

  92. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Of course GG9 – I have a soft spot for Timmy Cahill 🙂 although I think some are getting slightly carried away here with some talks of the quarter finals, get out of the group first. Worrying thing for Oz is the number of key players that aren’t playing for anyone and those that play for Aussie clubs having no club football now the season has ended.

  93. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Hi striker, I can’t make out whether you are praising that strategy (non-stifling) or crticising it? We could still win the league by dropping points to the bigger teams playing ‘our way’, but we won’t win cup competitions.

  94. Hi striker – the point is we did start the season pressing and harrying the opposition – was it too much like hard work? Why did we stop?

Obviously we think we’re superior and that the opposition aren’t going to keep the ball but sometimes they do and then we can’t defend for toffees and we have a flapper in goal!!!!!!!

  95. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

The “Andy Abrahams” who needed to get back into the media to sell a few pop albums?

I’m the eternal cynic, flippin “pop stars” should just be quite on everything.

  96. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I would be sad to see EE go chary, but I’d be relieved for us and Eduardo if he were to get a fresh start in a less physical league.

  97. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Maire – great minds think alike, it’s a shame your flight over to the Grove got buggered up when you were going to meet us at the S & B last season.
We could have had a genuine meeting of minds then.

Peachy – the hacks were predicting Paddy & Thierry would be off 3 years before they eventually did go.

  98. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

Ok off to do my footy tips. Now St Kilda or Collingwood. Thats a tough one…………….

  99. If we win the title having dropped points against the other 2 but they’ve dropped more points against the lesser teams – which is what it’ll boil down to – will our achievement be greater? I think it will because we’ll have lost to our competitors but been more consistent overall.

  100. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

    GG9- Sydney Swans WOOHOOO 😀

Chary – Yes that was a pity but I’ll be back on the other side of the planet soon and I’m sure we’ll catch up some Saturday.

  101. chary – and every year I said it wasn’t going to happen 🙄

  102. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

Peaches these ‘big’ clubs are really causing us problems

I bet we couldnt win the Carling cup or FA cup even if we seriously tried to

there is always a ManUnited or Chelsea laying in wait

we got serious issues to sort out i just hope Arsene changes the status quo

And re Bendtner i really cant see why ppl that have watched the likes of Henry get excited over him

the kid tries but F me they dont come more ordinary

  103. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

No worries Maire – I don’t suppose you noticed the mention I got on Arse TV last Friday did you ?

  104. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Peaches I always believe whoever wins the league, deserves to win it. You can win on luck in a cup but not the league, we would deserve it because as you said we’d be more consistent.

  105. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

I don’t have Arse Tv Chary – what mention did you get?

  106. Franchise – Bendtner works really hard and hes all we’ve got so thats why I support him

The big clubs cause us problems because they are as talented as us and their managers work out how to play us. We just play the same way and hope it works IMO

  107. chary – you’ve been very quiet about that, what mention did you get?

  108. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

we needed a bit of magic up front against Barca. Bendtner wasnt that player unfortunately

  109. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

I do match reports for a Septic webblog Mairea nd Tom Watts was speaking to the guy(Tim Bostelle) who runs that on the fans forum last friday – I can put a link up for it if anyone wants it, not that I court the publicity !

  110. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Rasp: I am with you in that AA will be away at the year end.
But I sense a bigger clear out, Gibbs,Traore,Clichy do we need all those,Fran, JW, Jet and all those players out on loan, will they come home.

Maybe our young polish GK playing across at Brentford will be brought back to Bench,

So much more to consider than just sticking with the Existing squad and buying a couple of names

  111. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Please do Chary I’d like to see/hear it.

  112. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

It was only a brief mention Peachy, but you know me, I’m very shy that way.

  113. Exactly Irish – its good to be in driving seat but it’ll be just as much fun to watch the others slip up 😉

  114. Thats not completely true Franchise, he was pretty magic to get onto the poor pass from Theo and then get back onto his feet to prod the ball for the goal.

  115. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Yep ha ha Blackburn can do us le favour at the weekend on that score

  116. Come on Mr Shy – give us the link 😉

  117. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Not that I am suggesting that the squad be decimated, but it seems to me there is a log jam of good young players that should be utilized or moved on.

  118. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Just for you Maire, click on the bit that says “7amkickoff audio” and when tom asks him if he writes all the blog, he says he writes most of the blog but he has some guest writers and there’s a guy who’ll be writing the Wolves match report, Chary. http://www.7amkickoff.com/2010/anyone-but-chelsea-please/

  119. Blackburn worked really hard to get a point against the chavs a couple of weeks ago so hopefully Fat Sam will feelthe same about the mancs.

  120. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Ooh, and for you too Peachy.

  121. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Thanks Chary off to listen 🙂

  122. dandan I think you’re absolutly right – is it too late to move Traore into mid-field, that would make sense, Gibbs has overtaken him as 2nd choice left-back and he’s going to waste on the bench.

  123. What of the Meridas and the Velas?

Vela and Bendtner had such a great partnership going a couple of years ago – why break that up?

  124. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

haha peaches magic to get to a poor pass?

what are those long legs for? 🙂

he looked more sunday league than magic.

he tried to beat his marker on several occassions. never suceeded. the guy is a pony 😆

  125. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Peachy & Raspers met Tim before the Burnley game also Maire – he said to me later that he understood so much more how Gooners felt after he met us all that day.

  126. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

    02:42 in Chary 😉

Lupoli and bendtner had a good partnership too Peaches…

Just back to the keepers, I’ve been hearing a lot about the Mexican keeper Guillermo Ochoa lately. Only 24 but has over 200 club appearances and over 30 international appearances. Meant to be very highly rated. Could be a slightly cheaper option to a Lloris or Akinfeev in that he still plays in Mexico.

  127. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

LOL well we’ll have to meet Chary, be prepared for some Rosicky propaganda… 😆

    Peaches for you:

  128. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

No need Maire, you won’t need to convince me of Rosicky’s class, on the pitch that is.

  129. Fran – you may think hes not good enough to play for us but its not his fault that he does and as he works so hard for the team I’ll not hear a bad word said against him.

You were still supporting Ade until you sat next to me a couple of times last season 🙄

  130. Irish – thats the funniest thing ever 🙂

  131. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

Ade had more in his locker Peaches. his constant offsides and bad attitude was a problem towards the end of his career

Nik is just too too ordinary to get me excited

we need better and dont tell me we have Crockin Van Persie

    🙂

  132. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

    Good to hear Chary.

Franchise – Bendtner is only 22 for heaven’s sake, give the boy a chance, he’s not meant to be our first choice. He’s better than Macheda, Wellbeck that Man USA have and bloody works harder than Berbatov… He’s not meant to carry any title challenge.

And Adebayor was a complete and utter joke last season, a bloody disgrace.

  133. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

I know ha ha I love it – he’s so surprised by it.

  134. I appreciate we need better but we haven’t got better, maybe we’ll have better next season 😉

One ‘better’ striker is not the answer IMHO more desire by the whole team to win the ball and keep the ball would have a much better effect.

  135. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

Irish I couldnt sing at 22 I still cant sing now

the lad tries but tries only wins you games in rugby 😛

like peaches said it aint his fault he is picked.

  136. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

FLIP why did we have to bring up Barndoor again, it angers me no end….. 👿

  137. Fran – who would you like us to buy as our first choice striker? Remember Arsène only has tuppence to spend

  138. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

    😆 Franchise

  139. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Peaches we’re getting Chamackh and that will probably be it. I can see Vela going.

  140. Irishgunner's avatar Irishgunner says:

Okey Dokey guys I’m off to bed. Catch ye all soon.

  141. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

I would ‘mostly’ play 442 peaches and invest in some proper wide players that is unless i can lay my hands on a proper CF who can lead the line alone

‘mostly’ being the keyword. it would make players like eduardo, vela if he stays more relevant to the squad

Chamakh VP up front would be awesome. Cesc and Song in the middle or move Song to the back and get an energizer bunny to partner Cesc in the middle

the problem is what do we do with the SPIRHs (square pegs in……..) like Nasri, Rosicky

Arshavin can play wide but he would have to work hard off the ball 😯

I dont see us playing 442 for a while it would require some serious personnel change

  142. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

lets get Dunga and Dennis Bergy in

  143. Franchise's avatar Franchise says:

fantasy football see ya later guys

  144. I don’t think we’ll ever play 4-4-2 again under AW – hes lost his appetite for wide players and likes the type that we have too many of that are similar and can be the SPIRH’s.

  145. tommystout's avatar tommystout says:

personally i like bendtner, he’s been a star lately and at 22 he’s not even peaked, could be a drogba or better in a couple of years.
no he doesnt excite, but he damn well works his socks off.
i wouldnt be surprised if he sells some of our injury prone players, that has been the obvious problem this year – so watch out van persie – rosicky – eduardo.
cant see him getting shot of vela, the guys hardly featured and wenger has invested a lot of time and resources into his development!

  146. Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys was heard ranting in online streams of Arsenal’s Champions League match against Barcelona earlier this week.

Fans listening to streaming commentary of the Tuesday night game could hear the 52-year-old TV anchor in the Sky studio criticising Theo Walcott for his poor performance.

Speaking about the 21-year-old forward, he said: “Get up, you stupid little boy…You’ve been s***e, son, in your daft pink boots – absolute rubbish.”

His muffled comments were broadcast alongside the regular Sky commentary featuring pundit Andy Gray, according to The Sun.

Earlier in the broadcast, it is also alleged that Keys could be heard asking the studio team who had “farted”.

A Sky spokesperson said: “There were no technical issues with the audio on the night. On Sky coverage no conversations could be heard behind the live match commentary, and we did not supply any feeds to outside broadcasters. Richard has no reaction.”

anyhow, how did you come about this story hawke?

  163. i have the story from somebody who knows ranieri’s agent.

  164. they wanted him in the january window.

  165. Livers's avatar Livers says:

Gallas was free so cannot have been “tapped up” and probably has talked to a number of agents. I’d be very surprised if he’s signed a pre contract with anyone.

  166. “he WILL sign” 😉

    not HAS signed

    HTH

  167. very similar to the deal we are doing with chamakh.

we know he is coming our way on a 4 year contract worth 12M

but it will not be offically signed until the season is over.

    june 1st is reg day.

  168. Livers's avatar Livers says:

The Chamakh deal is very well known and hte player has more or less already admitted coming.

Gallas I’m not convinced by at all although I think we need a new partner for TV anyway. I’m curious though, surely Ranieri’s agent does his business for Ranieri and not Roma, secondly why wouldn’t Gallas’ agent be talking with Roma… Seems the wrong way round to me

  169. lol, livers, i figure as per the norm you are looking to be obtuse, i will break it down for you again.

    you struggle at times.

    so here it is.

who said ranieri’s agent was doing the gallas deal?

nobody, you made that bit up

Do you think ranieri may talk to his personal agent about transfer deals for his club?

  170. SH – no need to start on Livers hes only just popped his head round the door.

    Play nicely please boys

  171. peaches – you will find he started this bull, as he always does.

go back and read what he posted.

    i’m outta here.

  172. If you’re going to wind each other up it just spoils it for other people to blog.

Livers, if you want to discuss SH’s post with him you should do it on his site not on here.

A very welcome post today DanDan, really uplifting.

  174. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

    Evening All.
Enjoyed the post Dandan – good reading for the morning after the morning after.
If Gallas really is going (not taking sides here boys!) I hope we partner Verm up with a young Sol Campbell – but I doubt if AW will buy British.

  175. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Evening Rocky, I don’t know if the rumours about our interest in Smalling were true, but he looks a couple of years off being ready for first team football. I can’t think of many/any suitable english candidates for CB?

  176. who you talking to london?

  177. rasp, wenger admitted in a press conference that we did go for smalling.

  178. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Evening All….

    Great post DanDan.

Definite outs for me are only Almunia and Gallas. Gallas’ resurgence this season whilst benefitting us points wise, will mostly benefit himself.

Chances are that he will never be offered the same terms by Arse as he will by A.N Other club, plus isn;t he on record saying he’d like a new experience in another country.

I’m guessing he wasn’t talking about busking his way across europe, or signing for Pompey

  179. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Smalling won’t be top class for 2/3 years. We need another 26/27-year-old.

  180. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Re two tings earlier.

SFH take your nemesis’s name off of the top of his post and see if it still offends/riles you. I doubt it will. Cheque for 2p please 😉

Re Paddy and Thierry. Both sold at roughly the time, 100% for paddy, and aseason too late imo for Thierry.

I worshipped the ground that Paddy walked on, but surely it was clear to everyone how his powers were waning.

He missed a lot of games in his final season with his dodgy knee(s?), and when he did play he was noticeably less mobile and spent a lot of time further up the pitch than he used to. I once recall him playing alongside a 16-178 yr old Cesc and letting Cesc play behind him and do most of the chasing back.

Worst off all I saw muppets who had feared him for years now fancying their chances of having a crack at him. Players he used to swat like flies, were making a decent fight of taking him on.

As Arsenal Legends go he is my number one. I’ve never seen a player who had everything and coud do everyting, and beat oppo midfields single handed.

In his prime, the distance between him as No.1 in the world in his position and no.2 was as big as Messi’s margin now.

I can barely watch him these days though….I find it a little painful and a little sad.

  181. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

I just hope Arsene goes for a Vermaelen rather than a Stepanovs.

  182. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    Hi Sharkey,

Vieira was my favourit player too, but soemone on another site claimed to have some ‘top secret, can’t tell, inside info’ on him that would have made me see him in a different light. I have no idea what that may have been so for me, he’s still a hero.

  183. 🙂 excellent point Rocky

  184. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Sharkey, I loved PV4 as well, but his reign was characterised by a brilliant rivalry with Roy Keane. And loathsome as the filthy ManUre pikey was, I don’t think there was much to choose between him and Paddy. Except that Keane scored more goals.

  185. LB's avatar London says:

    SFH

    You

  186. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Part Two 😉 :

As great as Thierry was, I always felt that his attitude was never quite what it should be.

In his earliest days h echased absolutely everything to fashion chances for himself only to miss most of them. 3-4 as a sub on his debut v Leicester I recall.

Funnily enough itwas whilst in Barca for our last game there (Oct 99) that my mate alluded to thefact that Aneka had taken a while to start soring, but so long as he kept getting chances we might just be on to something. And so it came to pass….

    But…

Conversely the more he scored the less he seemed to work. OKhe didnt need to work that hard to sxcore his scorchers, curlers, and hat trics, but I always wonderd how much better he would be if he had Ian WWW’s attitude and fire in his belly.

And don’t even start me on his moodiness and death stares.

One of our greatest ever players – who could have been even greater ..?? Didhe lack a bit of desire ?? Could he have been a bit braver..??

  187. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Part Three !!!!!:

Where did I start this armble, oh yeah that was it.

I’ve been astounded when some gooners talked about having either of those two back for this season, either in Aug or Jan.

Let Arsenal Legends remain as Arsenal Legends, although Big Sol kinda blindsides my argument a bit. Lol.

Peaches: Yeah yeah, I know this should/could have been a proper post. Sorry

  188. Ooooh contraversial Sharkey 😆

I think it was a mistake to make him captain but thats because I think captains should have more than great skill they should have character and towards the end of his time it was all about Thierry.

Saying that I do think the best of times were when he was in the team alongside Paddy and Bobby and have to say that I loved him immensely.

  189. Well you’ve blown it now and only me for company 😉

  190. I do think if he could have been humble, having Theirry from January would have been fantastic. Theo needs to spend time with Thierry – Thierry could teach him all his tricks.

  191. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Sober up Rocky !!! 😉

Paddy uised to take on ManU’s midfeld single handedly WITH Roy Keane in it !!

As time passed (in RKs favour and to Paddys detriment?)the gap closed and RK was brilliant for the Scum and a truly great skipper as well, but imo he never achieved the heights Paddy did in terms of individulatalent and sheer footballing ability.

I never ever saw RK pop the ball up over Paddys head and skip away. I never saw RK chased and hacked at by the Scums midfield* of RK, Skoals, Boxham and Giggs… YET STILL retain possession AND start an attack. Hedid that coming out fro our own box having first done briliantly to win the ball back.

MONSTER OF A PLAYER (You really can’t argue now its in caps!!)

  192. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Rasp – its not that slapping someone with his knob thing is it..??

  193. dandan's avatar dandan says:

What a shame we dont have a song like never walk alone.

I can never understand the captain thing, what you need are leaders and they become apparent as soon as the game starts they win you matches on tough days, any fool can toss the coin and lead the team out.
Look at Sol recently and Clichy not the captain captain but leaders when we needed them

  194. Hi dandan does ‘never walk alone’ make you misty eyed, being a romantic myself I can quite understand why.

But some captains like Vieira and Adams are true captains and you notice the difference when they’re gone. Probably Sol should have been captain before Henry.

  195. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Ah Sharkey, you’ve used the CAPS on me. That’s real big talk. I wish I hadn’t started this because I now find myself in the position of having to defend Roy Keane against Paddy V. They were different players (you’re right that the pikey one didn’t have the flick-the-ball-over-their-head trick, but his own game wasn’t bad). I’ll happily concur that PV4 was better at his peak – but I still question your assertion that his degree of superiority was equal to Messi’s over all current strikers. I still think you’d have struggled to get a Rizla between them both.

  196. London – you are a disgrace.

I post something in completely good faith, livers comes on and distorts completely what i have written in order he gets a rise.

and you point the finger at me?

  197. Gallas I’m not convinced by at all although I think we need a new partner for TV anyway. I’m curious though, surely Ranieri’s agent does his business for Ranieri and not Roma, secondly why wouldn’t Gallas’ agent be talking with Roma… Seems the wrong way round to me

that is the crap HE wrote

    lets dissect this

“I’m curious though, surely Ranieri’s agent does his business for Ranieri and not Roma, secondly why wouldn’t Gallas”

somebody tell me where i stated this to be the case?

  198. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Being a great captain involves an ingredient X – something that’s beyond footballing skill or athleticism. Thierry never had it and I have to admit to doubting whether Cesc would have it when he got the job last year, but this campaign has proved that Cesc is 100% a great captain of our club.

  199. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Dandan – I could copy and paste that and claim it as my own. You’re spot on, every word.

JT – biggest scumbag you could ever have the misfortune to meet. Great skipper..?? Yep, 110% yes. Its a crying shame really, but its undeniable.

  200. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Haha sharkey – I was hoping someone would come on and tell me what this huge sin was that Vieira was supposed to have perpetrated. I never really understood what the cause of the antipathy between TA and MK was. I couldn’t believe it when he didn’t appear at Keown’s testimonial.

  201. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

  204. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

  205. thanks rasp, you echo the same sentiments peaches put on an email to me earlier.

i noticed a change in the wind of direction from london in recent days

he has cleary had his nose put out of joint along the way, not sure where or why, but its been brewing.

this was just a very cheap shot.

  206. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

I make you half right Rocky, I#ll do the neg side first so that I end on a positive.

He doesn’t seem to impose his will on all of those around him. His personal drive and desire are both amazing, but I’d need to see him doing more pointing and cajoling. He seems to lead by example and hope the others follow his lead. Following his lead seems almost optional at times

  207. Frank Mclintock lives around the corner to me and we’ve had some serious Arsenal chats in the park in the mornings. Being a scotman he doesn’t hold back in his criticism of AW and ‘players these days’.

  208. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Sharkey, he’s not a screamer, but if you watch him carefully he keeps a constant dialogue going with the other players.

Me anda mate went along and paid ourtenner aware that we were coming long to see the latest wunderkind.

I left that night amazed at just how many times he had touched the ball. It was almost magnetic. Very few flicks and tricks just a complete mastery of the ball and awareness of everything around him.

Since then he has shown bucketloads of desire, and one of the standout moments has tobe that fantastic near post header up at Sunderland that rescued a point.

I could list many many more, but that header had nothing to do with his talent (as per DD’s insightful criteria)

  210. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Peaches I have seen him grab an Arsenal player by the shirt and snarl in his face when he wasn’t happy with him… never did it to Storey though,

What is his beef with Wenger peaches.

  211. Sharkey – thats 2 posts you could have written 😦

  212. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I love London (and Livers) too SfH 😛

We’ve got a really good community here. I thought we’d agreed to disagree with style. Maybe we’re just all releasing pent up disappointment after tuesday …. we did rather get our noses rubbed in it!

  213. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    £1 it is then String.

Just let me have your account details and my mate Obafemi will sort the rest out.

    Cheers.

There ya go Rasp – sorted!!!

  214. That he doesn’t spend any money, that he believes in the kids and only the kids and THAT HE DOESN’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DEFENDING

  215. I have no axe to grind with anybody, rasp

    but it’s clear others do.

  216. LB's avatar London says:

    SFH

Do you ever read peoples comments before you insult them or is it an automatic knee jerk reaction. You posted your controversial piece which was designed to create a reaction. You seem to be annoyed by people just because they try and enter into a debate with you which surely was the purpose of the piece. You could have explained your views to Livers in an intelligent way but instead you chose to get frustrated.
You are the only person who has been thrown off of more sites than me and that takes some doing. If you want people to engage in a debate with you be more patient. Livers contributes to this site unlike you who just uses it to promote your own. Think about that.

  217. dandan's avatar dandan says:

LOL pity he aint a bit younger you two could have been soul mates Peaches.

  218. london what views? what controversy, what are you talking about?

i stated facts given to me by somebody… did i ever say it was my view?

    ehh??

    DO YOU READ POSTS?

  219. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Fair do’s Rocky, and apologies for going ‘CAPS’ on you, hope you’re not too wounded…lol.

Someone mention Rizla papers…?? Back in 15, if I dont fall asleep after 😉

  220. ahhh, i see thats the problem, i promote my blog… which is on newsnow, arsenal news etc

why would i promote it here?

i get hits a plenty… is that what put your nose out of joint?

    you only had to say.

  221. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Gentlemen, I am new here, but one of the sites great assets it seems to me is its lack of acrimony, can we all take a deep breath, leave it there and start again. cheers guys

  222. London i have been thrown off LG… for obvious reasons, some people dont like hearing the truth

so what sites you been thrown off?

  223. i agree dandan, which is why i like it here

but its nice to see london get all this off his chest.. i did point out earlier he ahd an axe to grind… i was right…

continue london, but dont make it up as you go along.

  224. He is a gent dandan – his mouth dropped open the first time I engaged him in gooner chat, I don’t think he could believe that a girlie knew how to talk Arsenal.

Monday mornings were hilarious because all the gooners in the park wanted to bend his ear – it was like a right mothers meeting.

  225. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Great shout re the constant talking Rocky. I see it, maybe not enough, but I do see it.

    Cheers

  226. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Well said DD…..*deep breath from Sharkey*

Seriously though, can you two just do the rest of it by email or some sort of messenger thing..??

  227. just checked london… from the 2500 thousand hits on my blog yesterday… 2 were from Arsenal Arsenal.

i can assure you… certain blogs that i dont even post on.. give me many, many more hits, daily 😉

  228. 2500 thousand??

    i meant 2,500 hits

  229. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Sorry Peaches but I’m a bit of a weirdo for thinking too much. Why only MOndays..??

Livers was offering you a view, I was offering you a view both of which we believed to be the truth although instead of accepting an alternative view you chose to insult us both. Offering an alternative does not make someone a disgrace it is the purpose of a blog.

  232. what view?

and explain why posting INFORMATION is a view?

you have neglected to answer that part.. it was not a view.. had you read all the posts you would know that.

  233. and what alternative did livers offer? you will find he did not.. he distorted what what i wrote.

    answer those 2 questions please.

  234. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

McLintock played in one of the first games I ever went to at Highbury (against Stoke City). I was right down the front in the East Stand and at one point there was a Stoke break while we were defending the Clock End. One of their players (I think George Eastham but not 100% sure) was haring down the line with our fullback (Pat Rice) caught upfield. McLintock charged across and kicked him so hard that the Stokie went up in the air and – and this is the bit that really sticks in my memory – let out a high pitched squeal while he was still airborne. Everyone around me just winced. The ref waved ‘play on’. Those were the days.

  235. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Not that ladies are not knowledgeable, just not normally about the Arsenal, at least not the ones of my acquaintance LOL I have obviously had a sheltered life.

    BigHairyKnackersGooner’ – M/F

Answers on a postcard to Obafemi, be sure to put your account details on as well so that your prize money reaches you in double quick time !!

    😉 😉

  237. Boys – may I suggest you carry this on on SFH’s blog as your comments refer to his post and don’t really belong on here please.

Theres no point in having a discussion about another blog on this blog it just spoils it for everyone else.

  238. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Can you two just enter the mini quiz please..?? Its a real big challenge, with fantastic prizes

  239. Sharkey – mostly Mondays cos we all had to have our 2penneth after the weekend.

  240. london you can answer those 2 questions, and not go off the point ( as i am sure you will try )

here, on my blog, or by email.

i want answers or a grovelling apology.

  241. 😆 Sharkey 😛

  242. LB's avatar London says:

    SFH

My 6:28 was a view, there is nothing insulting in it, it is simply a view. You then went on to insult me by saying that because of my view I was a disgrace. You were pretty rude to Alfa yesterday, in fact, when I think about it you are rude to most people you come into contact with.

  243. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    “The ref waved play on….”

Top Quality that Rocky, its given me a good chuckle

  244. dandan's avatar dandan says:

Sharkey if we went by blog names I would be forced to conclude you were a wideboy, a likely lad. LOL I am sure that is not so

  245. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

Ok Peaches. I thought it was cos Mondays were the day that you regularly saw him somewhere, for whatever reason.

    I’ll go have a rest I think.

  246. so you still cannot answer the question, can you?

show me why my post was a view, and where livers posted a view

you won’t , you will continue around in circles

throwing crap like, i want hits, i get thrown off blogs, and now i am rude to all and sundry

why can you not just answer the questions or apologies.

you did not post a view a 628, it was crap acussations based on made up facts or you did not read all the posts.

you are not one to post made up stuff, so i am assuming you did not read all the posts before commenting.

a swift apology or an answer to my questions will do.

( i see, you and alfa are buddies right? hmmm tag team )

  247. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

And by blog names I am happy to confirm I am a rock. But not an island.

  248. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Lol Dan….

Long story behind my name DD, it was given to me in two parts out in the real world.

And no Peaches, its not something that I could turn into a post !!!

  249. dandan – football, its not that different to shoes and handbags really 🙂

  250. LB's avatar London says:

    SFH

I go to the games with many people who visit this site and yes we are mates going back many years.

There is no going back SFH you have insulted me and as for apologies have you looked up? You are not on your own site.

  251. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    Shoes and handbags…lol

    Anyways nite all…its been fun.

  252. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I regret my choice of name to be honest. I discovered this wonderful world of blogging and was so keen to get involved I just picked on a self-efacing play on words. I don’t really want to be associated with a debauched Russian pervert …. but I guess it’s too late to change now 😳

  253. still no answers, hey london

    why not?

more crap to throw? more lies to peddle?

    keep going

  254. No Sharkey you should keep that to yourself just like I’ll not tell why I’m peaches 😳

It was monday mornings in the park – you must’ve missed that bit. Frank lives around the corner to me and although I would see him on several mornings it was on Mondays that all the gooners wanted to chat to him.

  255. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Rasp, don’t worry – I always assumed you were named after a Boney M song.

  256. dandan's avatar dandan says:

SH Please give it a rest it is so utterly self serving and boring.

There is an interesting thread building here, how was your name arrived at.

  257. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

    😛 Rocky 😆

  258. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Raspers, my blog name one was a pretty dumb choice too, mainly ‘cos it means nothing to 99% of people; it’s just I’ve posted on other forums on a variety of topics with this name and I thought it would be cool to be consistent.
    Just sounds pretentious now..

  259. dandan, i share the same birthday as the actor who played stringfellow hawke.

i presume you are called dan ❓

  260. SharkeySure's avatar SharkeySure says:

    My last comment.

Why on earth are you two still bothering to antagonise each other.??

Why waste energy on someone you have no time for..?? I wouldn’t.

  261. dandan's avatar dandan says:

My name was for an original football chat room. And is in fact Dandanthefootyman, sad really

  262. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Well it makes you very interesting chary 😉 I’ve got so used to some blognames that I never actually see the obvious and understand what they mean. Do you rememnber that phase when race horses were given names that looked inocuous but were actually obscene just to get the commentaters into trouble?

  263. Livers's avatar Livers says:

Last I’ll say on it… I questioned why/how Ranieri’s agent would know something… end of. Sharkeysure nailed it on the head, if someone else posted my question or had my concerns if it were true you wouldn’t have got abusive again SFH… there was no need.

Anyway, last on that if you have a question mail me as I don’t particularly go on the other site.

    So….Come on Fulham 🙂

  264. LB's avatar London says:

    SFH

It is not a lie to say that you have been rude to me, to Livers and to Alfa it is a fact. I have no intention of discussing your site here and as I have never left a comment there, neither do I intend to, I will simply say good bye.

  265. dandan's avatar dandan says:

How about the children’s program with Mr and Mrs Bates and Master bates that played for years LOL

  266. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Thanks Livers … that’s drawn a line under it.

I’m impressed with the resolution of the bloggers on here. At times I’ve found the late nights and search for inspiration quite taxing, but the reaction of my friends on here has made it all seem worthwhile.

  267. Its funny, because I meet quite a few bloggers and go to football with them I completely associate the person with their blog name.

Franchise has always been called Franchise even though I know his real name and have sat with him at football loads of times. Same with Irish which is even stranger cos shes a girl.

  268. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Actually Raspers, you may remember an ex-navy guy was on here a while back and he thought I may have served on the HMS Charybdis?

I actually picked Charybdis as it was the name of a minor character in an episode of the original Battlestar Galactica. It was total escapism for an unhappy adolescent in the the early ’80s.

Dandan – you mean Captain Pugwash don’t you ?

  269. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

I’d like to apologise on behalf of everyone who’s been rude and commiserate with everyone who’s been offended and say …. you buggers better not stop coming on here after all we’ve been through to get this far. Let’s just see it as a test of our character and move on. I don’t want to lose any of you. It’s not my site … it’s yours.

  270. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

The story with Captain Pugwash was that there was a Master Bates, Seaman Staines and Roger the Cabin Boy, and that ‘pugwash’ was Australian slang for a blowjob. But I think it turned out to be a hoax by the journalist Victor Lewis Smith and, sadly, none of the characters in the real Capt Pugwash series had such wonderful names.

  271. Well said rasp – its only taken 65 posts for there to be a barney 🙂

Its just a blog – no need to take things so personally

  272. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

R Lives, I never watched Captain Pugwash to be honest, by the time it came on it was a bit too childish for me.

does anyone remember some kids supernatural programme called “Sky” – it was about some alien who’s eyes turned completely blue when it used it’s powers. I was very impressed with it at the time.

  273. LB's avatar London says:

That was goodbye to SFH not goodbye, goodbye. Shame interesting bloke really.

You know you had money on me to be the first Peaches 😉

  274. dandan's avatar dandan says:

I bow to your greater knowledge Rocky and Rasp worry not Sir, no one will be distressed or bothered by tonight’s performance, these things happen in the most distinguished of families LOL

  275. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Haha Rocky, my son has a whole load of those ‘nicknames’ for his pals …… Drew Peacock is my favourite

  276. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

dandan, we had an email to the site from a really nice guy who writes very well saying he’d been keeping an eye on us and liked the way we conducted ourselves 😳 he wants to write some posts and based on his email, I’d say he could be a very valuable contributor like your good self.

  277. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

I always thought Noggin the Nog sounded a bit racy too.

  278. Rasp's avatar Rasputin says:

Was that from the Goon Show Rocky?

  279. LB's avatar London says:

Has anyone said “Seaman Stains” yet or surely someone got “Master Bates”

  280. dandan's avatar dandan says:

There is a place as you have proved for a good, honest literate blog, it will attract people who find the combative and abusive sites like LG a no go area.

Football is of course an emotive subject to which we all succumb at times, but reason and respect for fellow travellers makes for a positive and welcoming place to be.
Good on yer Rasp. well done all of you

  281. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

Raspers, Noggin the nog was a kids programme about a viking I think. Reminded me of Ivor the Engine for some reason.

  282. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Rasp, Noggin the Nog was another kids’ animated series by the same team who made Pugwash. Noggin was a Viking and his enemy was called Nogbad the Bad (now there’s a blog name for somebody, surely!). I think there was a dragon too.

  283. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

    Showing my age.

  284. Maybe they were welsh vikings chary 😆

  285. Rocky you must’ve read my mind 🙂

  286. RockyLives's avatar RockyLives says:

Mind you, there’s something slightly appropriate about the ‘childish things’ thread on here tonight…

  287. dandan's avatar dandan says:

  293. ‘a morally ambiguous alien boy’ – what does that mean?

  294. rasp – that rather fabulous chap chary has updated his mank rant in case we need it. I’m going to get it now xx

  295. ChärybdÏß1966's avatar charybdis1966 says:

For some £3 million Mark Schwarzer could have been signed by The Arsenal 2 years ago. If, in hindsight Le Gaffer did, we may be champions now 😉

  299. Morning gg9 – 300 hundred eh but who’s counting 😉

  300. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Peaches,

Consider the nightshift on duty, but I’ll need evo
to actually talk to, etc. Can you email him to get him on board?

  301. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

Not me, I just got to work. But as a basic mathematican, I know that 300 comes after 299 🙂

  302. peachesgooner's avatar peachesgooner says:

    I’ll email evo now 🙂

  303. peachesgooner's avatar peachesgooner says:

Did Mark Shwarzer go down with Middlesborough?

  304. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

Yes he did, so he was cheap, cheap, cheap. Now he is in the semi’s in Europe, & arguably Top 5 in the world in his class. Oh & he is an international goalie, not England’s number 5.

  305. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

…….or is he Spains number 10 goalie 😉

  306. I don’t think our Al features anywhere on Spains radar as far as goalies go 😦

  307. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

Green is Englands stopper, & West Ham are teetering on the brink 🙂

  308. So, its no guarantee of success then – maybe AW has a point about not taking goalkeeping seriously 😉

  309. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

……& not to mention the Pompy stopper. 😳 I mentioned him.

  310. Hmmmnnnnn I rest my case 🙂

  311. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

AW should take a leaf outa Roy Hodgson’s book on how to defend a 0-1 lead away in Europe. Or sign Hangerland as well as Big Mark 🙂

  312. If you have a look back, Irish put a great clip on earlier at 12.51 of Chris Kamara missing a man getting sent off at Portmouth last weekend – very funny

  313. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Cheers, I will

  314. Hangerland had a mention today actually but is there any chance of Roy wanting to let him go? He’d be silly to wouldn’t he?

  315. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

Yep, he would want to hold on to him @ all costs, but you never know, everything is 4 sale, @ the right price 🙂

  316. When do we ever enter negotiations with a view to paying the right price – we only want bargains, Roy would be silly to think he’d end up with a good deal.

Do you get to watch much European football, are there any other CB’s out there that would do the trick?

  317. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

I used to, but dropped Setanta coz I got sick of the same old adds over & over again about up comimg programmes. Anyway, that said, IMO if Le Gaffer had raw bone Scandinavians for defenders & Latin Americans as strikers, it would be a pretty good blue print for success. As for the mid field, well he has some good types already IMHO, maybe just get more depth.

  318. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

……..& London, I include Song in that midfield 😀

  319. GG9 – I have to love you and leave you I’m afraid. I’ve emailed evo and hope you get some company. Catch you later 😉

  320. gnarleygeorge9's avatar gnarleygeorge9 says:

No worries peaches, I’m off out now too. Adios to you as well
