This is the second edition of ‘Rant Friday’. Last week some new bloggers mistook the piece for an attack on Arsenal. It is simply an opportunity for anyone with a gripe to write a paragraph and get it off their chest.
Rasputin’s Beef
On Tuesday night we witnessed possibly the most entertaining and uplifting display of ‘Arsenal Football’ in the short history of The Emirates Stadium. A game in which the ‘experts’ had said we would struggle. A game that followed Ramsey’s horrific injury and Niklas Bendtner’s profligacy in front of goal the weekend before. The team were magnificent, everyone played their part. After the fourth goal, a carnival atmosphere enveloped the ground ….. so why oh why, with 10 minutes to go, did thousands of so-called ‘fans’ start streaming out of the ground?
They missed the drama of the penalty and Nik scoring his first hat-trick, but more importantly they didn’t stay to do their duty as supporters and clap our boys off the pitch. The goal celebrations showed how important this game was to them – it had nothing to do with earning £60k a week, it was about playing superb football (and being allowed to play as is seldom the case in the premiership) and winning the Arsenal way. I can have some sympathy for anyone with young children who wanted to avoid the crush, but to the rest who left early I say, shame on you, you are not worthy of our team.
Livers’ Beef
Right first rant and I know this is only speculation but it’s been brought to light that Roma are over here trying to get Gallas on a pre contract agreement, this caused as we know by Arsene’s policy of only giving an extra year extensions to players over 30. Now, in some regards this seems sensible in that players will have to earn a new contract each year but it does make me wonder if this should be extended to players of say 33 or over.
If a players “peak” is 27, 28 then 2 years later they are over the hill or past it? No not really and not in the majority of cases. Players that Wenger inherited when he first came like the back 5 and Ray Parlour were all hitting 30 or already over 30 and they played some of their best football past this age. More recently and the one that hurts the most was Robert Pires who I think we have never replaced. Granted this season he’s in cameo roles for Villareal and not at his best or ok, maybe past it. But it was 2006 we let him go with Wenger ok with this because we had Hleb. Now both have gone and Hleb, for all his trickery and ball control was never as effective as Sir Bob.
We let Campbell go on a free so he could play abroad…….all the way to Portsmouth. Sure his head wasn’t right but are you telling me we couldn’t have done something about it and not wasted 5 years to get him back… oh we’ve not won anything in 5 years right? Even Sol won the cup in 2008. Which now brings me to Gallas. Gallas has turned his career around at Arsenal and plays extremely well with TV so why won’t we just this once give a player over 30 a 2 year contract and if he’s still quality after that then issue the 1 year extensions. I bet Aluminia has 8 years left on his contract…….
All these players that possibly leave on a free because of our policies and there are more than I named (The Dennis 1 year extensions became a joke) leaves me to wonder why it’s such a problem. This never happened in David Deins day…..
Second Rant and a small one.. European games v League games. What are the frigging rules for time added on? 6 subs in the Prem is 3 mins. 6 in the CL is 1 min ..WTF ?
tommystout’s beef
My rant is not about the Arsenal in particular but the way we are treated by that abysmal radio station Talksport and other associated broadcasters. Adrian Durham in particular has riled me over the years but needling away are the likes of Brasil and Townsend. Please Gooners don’t phone them up and give them the time of day, if they have no one ringing up and defending Arsenal then they will get the message. After all what would a radio station have to talk about if they have no Arsenal to talk about, they’d maybe have to turn on their beloved Man IOU or upsetting other supporters instead, this goes for Liverpool fans too who have had their fair dose of negative air time especially over the past year. Boycott the phone calls and they’ll target someone else, their loss, Arsenal are big news and an easy target, for now!
I’m addressing Talksport because I’m a glutton for punishment and listen to their “white noise” most days, but it isn’t just them, Alan Green for 5 live has his two penneth. Then there’s Gary Linneker and Alan Shearer for the BBC and then we get to Sky; Smug faced Richard Keys and old hat Andy Gray to name but two, they look for any chance to stick the knife in. What’s difficult to comprehend is that Sky want the viewing figures and the neutrals and lovers of pure football want to watch Arsenal but these “pundits” always do their best to condemn us. Work that one out.
Until Arsenal TV get themselves into a position back on the Satellite medium, where they can screen all of their games live, until that time I will remain a sky sports customer…. Then Adios Amigo!

Arsenal News 24/7

Phew boys. Lots of steam escaping there, well done. will go back and read again, then comment
Just one thing up front Tommy. Talk sport is a premeditated preplanned,Wind up, they have 24 hrs to fill and advertisers to please so will do anything to get the phones ringing, they neither believe or care what they say as long as it is not libelous and it gets punters ringing in. Turn them off, let their listener ratings fall and they will have to change the act.
The ginger twit laughs all the way to the bank secure in the knowledge that bigger twits than him phone back. Stop ringing he will stop laughing.
It’s embarrassing when fans leave early, when I sing at them ‘We can see you sneaking out’ or ‘Is there a fire drill’ I always hear we paid our money so we can do want we want, or the trains I have to catch, it’s bollocks it’s the new breed of fans we have at Arsenal, the same who booed Eboue last season and who fucking groan when we lose the ball or don’t shoot.Redknapp was right, to get at Arsenal at home, frustrate the home crowd and they get on the player’s back…he’s right a lot of our fans do the the opposition a favour. Talksport you forgot that cunt Collymore and that twat Ronnie, fat Brazil’s sidekick. I don’t listen to it anymore, the same as I don’t watch MOTD.For me if we win the PL or the CL it will be such a sweet moment to see all those cunts eat humble pie
Morning all
Great graphics rasp….love the talk sport one in particular, I wonder if we can get it to them to see it today.
I hate seeing people leaving in droves before the end of the game. Tuesday night was embarrassing. I walk back to Finsbury Park – takes about 20minutes and there are no queues except sometimes the Police filter people into the station for safety.
I wonder if we’ll get anyone on that does leave early who can explain their reasons.
Why bother listen to any of the media or even pay sky.
you can all the games on the net. there is software out there which is hd quality.
just turn it off
there is even a dutch channel you can get yes which just replay highlights to music at ht
the only average bit on talkshite is H&J
if you really want decent stuff for your ipod try the alan davies arsenal podcast
“…but to the rest who left early I say, shame on you, you are not worthy of our team.”
Is there a fire drill?
Is there a fire drill?
Is there a fire drill?
Is there a fire drill?
Completely 100% agree with fans staying until the end. It’s riled me from day 1 at the Grove. I don’t care how far you have to travel or how long it takes you to get home stay the full 90 minutes. What’s it going to cost you in your life? Half an hour extra to get home? Surely half an hour is worth it to show the appreciation for a truly world class display and even so true fans stay until the end whatever the score/performance. I pay 1k a year for my ticket and I want full value from it! The only time I’ve ever left early is when I was on the verge of puking my guts out.
I don’t understand why Wenger is stalling on the gallas contract he needs to really hurry up with it before he gets a big contract off someone else.
I try not to pay attention to talkshite as it’s pure nonsense all the time and they have no idea what they’re talking about.
Skysport is a the Sun of the Airwaves a Murdoch creation, Keys is just a red top sub editor.looking for soundbites and any controversy he can find. The only reason he targets us is that we are on Sky so often and he knows there is a small number of Emirate Idiots who really are hung up on us winning nothing for five years. His Coventry would love to be in a position just to play us.
Hanson Like Thommo is sick to the stomach like most scouser’s, so just lashes out and Gary well he,s a spud LOL
Alan Green loves the sound of his Belfast voice and knows not the value of silence, which is why he cant get on TV. all in all a pretty sorry mob.
Be Happy be a gooner LOL
Morning all – a special welcome to new bloggers.
Somehow I didn’t think I’d get many arguing against my view on fans leaving early – thanks for your comments.
Morning all- about Talkshite, I only ever listen to them after we win a game as otherwise they are merely slagging us off ad nauseum. As for the Durham-Gough combo – they’re clearly told that on the discussion point for the evening they each have to pick one side so they can argue about it. I’ll bet they even draw straws to see which side they’ll take.
Lately I’ve been diverting to 5 live who are marginally less anti Arsenal and they have the added bonus of no chance of Stan V Doggymore on their airwaves.
Talking of our famous sexual pervert(joining the long list of footballing perves such as Pleat, Grant and Shrek-with the necrophiliac tendencies)does anyone have a you tube link for the gooners abusing him while he was in the media stands on Tuesday?
I said it on Wednesday that he was losing his cool, beneath the bravado, when he saw the effects of his constant, rabid abuse of our club and it’s supporters.
I hope he never comes back to the Grove,he’s certainly not welcome there.
The cnut.
To be honest the fans who would argue that it is “their right” to leave when they want aren’t the ones that live for the Arsenal or spend every minute of the day thinking about the upcoming fixture so probably wouldn’t bother reading the Arsenal blogs. The only safe place is in Block 6 where those leaving early get a few harsh words in their ear if stupid enough to do so.
On a slightly different note I think when Arsenal sell tickets to Block 6 and those around it should carry a warning about what to expect there. Something along the lines of the fans being more “passionate” or more accurately proper Arsenal fans.
Good Beefs 🙂
On Tuesday, it was half empty 10 mins in and half empty 10 mins to go. I even said to my mate next to me that when we got the 4th you’ll see people disappearing. I do understand that getting home can be problem midweek but weekends… come on it’s a joke.
The thing is it happens at Utd and Chelsea too but we have the biggest seats on earth which makes it look worse. Even my mates mail me and go “all you lot turn up dressed as red seats again”
Good beef… it gets my goat too
“This never happened in David Dein’s day” – er, er, er wasn’t David Dein at the club when Pires was let go? Wasn’t Dein there when Campbell left and for the Bergkamp 1 yesr extensions? Pity to spoil a reasonably accurate article with sloppy errors like that because of rose-tinted Dein glasses.
Hi rantraveandriot,
I sensed more of the old Highbury spirit among the fans that stayed on tuesday. The whole of the upper tier at the clock end were standing and singing their hearts out for the last 15 minutes. I particularly liked the ‘Arsene, Arsene give us a wave’ and the slightly embarrassed way the boss duly obliged.
I left early – there, I said it. I don’t usually (it was the first time for many years), but people are allowed to leave when they want. You pays your money, you takes your choice.
I won’t have that I’m not a true supporter – I’ve had a eason ticket since 1989, and sat through some dreadful stuff in GG’s later years. But Footballs changed, because the Country’s changed. People live further afield now – travel down miles and miles to get to the game, because they’ve been forced out of Islington by Blair/Brownites. It’s just life – things change, and bitching/maoning about it isn’t gonna make it any better.
I have to say also – I felt very guilty doing so – the players deserved more that that but circumstances dictate peoples actions. I would also say that midweek – can be understandable – Saturday 3.00 – Come now – there’s no excuse then.
Yeah the “Arsene, Arsene give us a wave” is always a favourite of mine especially the pantomime boos when he doesn’t do it. It’s the probably the shortest wave possible, his hand barely lifts up. I guess he’s trying not to mock the opposition. The problem is the a lot of the fans are glory hunters or going to matches to get reputation points for being a regular arsenal attendee. Because that is all they are, attenders. They arrive at the game 10 minutes late, barely watch it whilst eating the overpriced food then leave 10 minutes early to get the ever so slightly earlier train. I think there needs to be more areas like block 6 around the ground. The club need to work with REDaction because surely even they accept the atmosphere is terrible most of the time which is due to the proper supporters being spread around the ground instead of concentrated in a small area like block 6.
I have never left and will never leave early, its so frustrating when I see the fans stream out with 10 mins to go. I have my two boys (11 &16) with me and I ensure we stay and I explain to them why we stay, win lose or draw.
I do this even though I have to get to the trains, even if there was extra time I would still get a connection, trains dont stop at 10pm, so why the rush?
The worse case of this to me was when we played PSV in the CL knock out stages a couple of seasons ago (06/07), we lost 1-0 away, the following week, we made things hard for ourselves by failing to score when chances came, we got on level aggregate terms through an Alex own goal, but couldnt put the game away, then with 7 minutes to go, Alex equalised, meaning we needed 2 goals, but as that ball settled in the net, the ground nearly emptied, I was embarassed to be an Arsenal Supporter in that moment, with injury time we had 10mins or so, the fans neglect and forget the power of support and how you can will a team on, raise their energy levels and instil a sense of desire and belief.
Where people are right they have the right to leave when they want, but I would make them scan their cards on the way out and anyone who leaves consistently early would be refused an automatic renewal.
But also to compound this I feel Arsenal FC have got the seating all wrong and the way they sell tickets all wrong, they run out to the wrong anthem. There are empty seats pretty much every game, ok they might be paid for but there is so many fans out there that cannot get to games who want to and wouldnt leave early.
I am a red member and my boys JG’s I would go to every game if I could get tickets, but quite often I struggle to get tickets, and then I see empty seats on TV or people leaving early grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Hi Patrick, welcome to the site.
I hope you feel better for the confession. You are obviously a true supporter, we’ll let you off – you are absolved of your sins 😛
@patrick:
How far do you live from the ground?
In recent years I’ve lived in Guildford which is a good hour and a half from door to door by train and tube yet I’ve NEVER left early whilst at the grove. It’s never even crossed my mind to leave early or not even turn up.
The problem is it’s mostly newer fans who live far away and not older fans like yourself. Those are the type of fans we don’t need or shouldn’t need. Where were they when we were relatively bad?
Liver I understand your standpoint but, it is not really about not giving contracts to over thirties it is more about a cohesive pay policy and motivation for younger players.
The older players themselves will be happy to sign one year deals if they have A. looked after their money and B believe they are good enough to hold their place, Bergy was a case in point.
Giving older players longer contracts sends a message to young players that there is no way in to the side. It also deprives the older player who hasn’t looked after his money of the big signing on fee,(look at Campbell he has never been sold for a fee, has always trousered it himself) because I am sure the Arse don’t pay them to older players either
So balance is the key for Wenger both in his squad and in the clubs accounts.
Ok Beardy, well picked up I thought it was 2006 he went..
Bad Livers, bad bad Livers… I think the point was things seemed to get done more seemlessly when Dein was there compared to Gazidis..
Although I back the board in him leaving
R & R & R, I almost had a ticket for area 5(fairly similar in character to area 6 I’d imagine) last Saturday, but my gooner pal arrived late and we couldn’t swap our swipe cards over and I ended up in area 28 as usual. He said the atmosphere was electric there, non-stop singing and shouting and they had stood up virtually the whole game – I wish I could’ve been there.
While I agree mid week evening fixtures make things tricky for those coming from distance I can see no excuse for leaving early on weekend games. I’ve taken my two boys week day games and come home after midnight, so am I a bad father for that?
What the hell, they are my sons and they will be gooners, end of.
Morning Harry – thanks for your response. Its clear that there are many supporters that feel the same about this. I too am always furious that there are empty seats when I know there were gooners who didn’t manage to get tickets.
The Arsenal ticket exchange closes 48 hours (I think) before the game and in this way any season ticket holder who finds they can’t attend after the cut-off point misses out on giving their seat to someone else.
Considering this is all done electronically itsa pretty poor show by Arsenal.
Woops didn’t mean to click submit…
Was going to say something along the lines of why did they suddenly become football fans and why not support a local team? I love what Wenger’s done to the club but if I’d lived in Guildford my whole life I’d have probably supported Pompey, Woking or god forbid the Chavs (Guildford doesn’t really have a League football team or even a conference team). I don’t care how good we were there are plenty of genuine supporters who could fill the ground and be prepared to sing. You see it a lot at the Carling Cup games. A more teenage crowd who come and want to sing so why not the league games?
somebody mentioned the alan davies podcast earlier… lol
sorry, but it’s schoolboy humour on that podcast, not serious arsenal chat.. but of course, if you want a laugh then its well worth a listen.
anything paddy barclay does, in the written and spoken word, is worth reading and listening to.
he is long enough, and experienced enough to not have to suck fergies proverbial and join the xenophobic, inggerllland yob pack, hack press mob.
he speaks the truth, and has no underlying motives.. which many others do.. you see, they try to provoke, by being as controversial as possible, this increases readership short term.. but kills credibility long term.
the up and coming journo pup in the press and the failed footballers on radio have to adopt such practice in order they pay the bills.
Rasp, Eloquent rant, love it. By and large I agree, but please remember there are Elderly and less fit and well people at these games as well. Maybe they find Queuing and standing difficult. Are they to stop going after a lifetime of support or have they actually “earned the right” to the leave at a time that gets them away in reasonable comfort, as for me I live 100 miles away and a midnight homecoming from THOF would be classed as a very good journey indeed.
Haha SH – very true!… it seems most of the contributors on here are better journalists than the slimeballs you describe.
R R and R – great name – good point about a younger crowd. I went to the FA Youth cup games last season and the support was fantastic. Here were supporters who had the opportunity to be at the Emirates and watch their young heroes play. Even thought the ground wasn’t full there was plenty of noise …….
Hi dandan,
Good point, I should have covered that … although all those that I saw leaving were perfectly able bodied. I was very careful not to call them ‘bad supporters’ or ‘plastic’ etc. in the rant – every now and then someone has a good reason to leave early, but I can say in all honesty that I never have.
Mornong all, well said mate. I love what you said about Talkshite, them and the rest of the manc sycophants literally make me feel sick. Just after the Ramsey incident I thought they would turn it something else, hence I’ve not listened since to them since, and if I can’t get the game, I watch on a stream.
We tried to replace bobby with mozart but Tommy has had really bad luck with injuries (as bobby did in spain when he left funnily enough).
When I saw Rosicky play, I thought perfect replacement for Pires but he’s had awful injuries (do we know what was wrong with him for those 2 years yet?).
This goes out to all the iganoramous idiots who claim that every ‘supporter’ stays right to the end. Have you ever thought that some ‘fans that are not worthy of the team’ travel a hell of a long way and often have to leave early to get the train that they’re booked on?
I apologize to any supporter who has to witness me leaving early to do this but 120 miles is a bit of a walk. Sorry to bring such shame on you all
Daz, I understand midweek games but what about Sat 3pm ?
“This never happened in David Deins day…..”. Can we please get over this nonsense. The one year thing started in Dein’s day. He was not the Messiah. He wanted us to groundshare at Wembley with it’s ownership by the FA, hugely overbudget building costs, terrible transport links and awful pitch . Oh and he was responsible for the North Bank Bond. He sold his shares and his soul to the Fat Oligarch and manipulates public opinion through his links with the tabloids. A little independent thinking would be good.
@Dan from Leicestershire
Why not book a later train then if you know you won’t be able to make it?
How long have you been an Arsenal fan? What is your story behind becoming an Arsenal fan and what was wrong with Leicester or any of the other numerous clubs round there who are reasonably successful (if you weren’t born in london that is)?
ClockEndRider – I did answer this above 😉
to rantminceandmouth its ‘Daz’. Why the hell should I have to explain to you who I support? Fact is I have a season ticket. Do you come from Woolwich or any of your family orginate from there? I doubt it
Livers, cant answer you about the normal kick offs but I never leave early for those
Hi Daz,
Thanks for your comment. There are always exceptions. You’re reasons may be valid, but I’m pretty sure that 90% of those who left early would not have had such a commitment to get away early. Don’t take it personally – if you travel from Leicestershire, you clearly have put in a huge effort to support the team.
Good for you Daz for making the journey and obviously if you have to leave early to catch a train thats an important reason.
Good article, watched from my living room on Tuesday, texting friends throughout..after first goalI texted that I would love to be there and why the f**k people who were lucky enough to have tickets couldn’t turn up on time? Same at the end, I have often walked from the Grove to Finsbury tube station , and cannot understand how leaving five/ten minutes before the end can speed up your journey to that extent.
Secondly on the media…after the Ramsey assault game I watched Barcelona live on Sky..they were drawing 1-1 with time running out (time running out but not their fans). Barca kept playing their football as they do and got the winner with a beautiflly crafted goal..Thought stuck me, who in England could have created and scored that goal..only one answer and the answer doesn’t include Darren Fletcher and Nani in the build up..Arsenal are the only team capable of it. So why does the media want to destroy what they want to sell. Crazy isn’t it. I e-mailed Sky on the Monday when they were pouring sympathy on Ryan Shawcross and pointed out the league they seemed intent on creating wouldonly resemble the brutality of the Old Firm game the previous day. They didn’t read it out, wonder why ???
Daz. Not all posters understand the vagaries of the longer non metropolitan train travel.
Dont know if you are new to this blog, cos I am, but stick around a bit as a true gooner you will enjoy it, good people on here
There is another debate that could be discussed regarding leaving early – who are the worst offenders? (assuming no other factors force an early exit) – those who leave when we are winning comfortably, or those who leave when defeat seems certain?
I’ll leave you all with thata one as I have to leave early from the site 😳 – thanks agin to the new posters, I hope we see you on here again.
@Daz
I was just curious to see the exact reasons for leaving early as I don’t often have the chance to speak to people who do so. No need for the aggression I only spelt your name wrong by accident. My screen is tiny and I need glasses! If you would answer my questions it might help me understand a little more.
In answer to your questions I lived in Camden Town from a birth which is very much Arsenal territory. Recently I moved to Guildford for uni and still go to every game and away games when I can get tickets and even this year while I’ve been working in Barcelona I’ll have gone to about 10 games by the end of the season.
Its a whole rant in itself the way Arsenal FC treat their supporters from high priced tickets, drinks and food to taking money for season tickets all over the ground and not following up when those seats are empty.
I use silver membership to get my tickets to every game and there are areas of the ground where the seats are always empty. Why can’t the club get in contact with those season ticket holders and find a way for their seat to be used? Its a great shame.
Sorry all, this post has left me seething. Last train I could book was 2225 from St Pancras, the game was won so I left as injury time was shown. Normally I get the 2315 train so no problem and I stay till the end but this was unavailable.
I know not everyone who leaves early has a reasonable excuse but there are people that have their reasons.
Dandan, well noticed, I am indeed new to this site! Going to Hull tomorrow so lets hope we give old tantastic a good pasting! Up the Arsenal
This isn’t really a new problem but it really gets highlighted with our mega sized seats.
I remembered years ago my old man laughing about how some people only came to matches to avoid the crowds!
Get there early to miss the crowd, leave for half time refreshments to avoid queues, leave before final whistle to avoid crowd! WHY BOTHER!!!!
As with TalkShite you forgot the most avid Arsenal hater Andy Chav Jacobs! what a knob!
@Daz
That’s fair enough. You’re not leaving with excessive amounts of time left. It was the empty seats 75/80 mins on the clock. Apologies if I offended you but I was just curious. Well done for making the effort. I know if I could afford to fly home for every match I definitely would. I’ll be back next year though so can happily claim my season back off my cousin.
I think the problem lies with the stipulation that the majority of new season tickets at the new ground went to Islington borough residents. It sounded like a good idea but in reality a lot of these people were only taking the ticket because it was possible as opposed to having a long standing desire to get one. Perhaps giving them all silver memberships would have been a better idea so they can come when they want.
Rasp – I think it’s the ones who know we have a comfortable win. It’d be interesting to see the goals missed if they leave 10 mins early to 5 mins early to bang on 90…
I’m sure they’ll be a heck of a lot of goals missed.
I remember when I was a Junior Gunner back in 88 I had to meet my uncles right round the other side of the ground after the match. So I tended to leave when I thought the 90 were up just so I can meet them on time to take me home. I missed goals v Southampton and QPR 2 weeks on a spin and never did it again..
Rasp, Liver, Tommy, you didn’t disappoint, top rants.
Right Rasp, as someone who stayed right to the very end singing the team off the pitch (even waiting for EE to hand his shirt over to that fan 😕 ) and nearly always does, I’ll give you the top 5 legitimate reasons why we need to cut out this ‘they aren’t real supporters’ nonsense.
1. For a lot of people travelling by rail, 5 minutes does mean getting home 30 – 45 mins later. The transport around the ground is dire and both the club and the council need to take responsibility – promises have been broken.
2. For people with family commitments, kids at home, work, getting home later does make a difference. Maybe it doesn’t matter if you are on your own or nobody else gives a monkeys what you do with your time or needs you around for anything.
3. The design of the upper tiers, with the daft narrow stairs to get a few more seats in and the stewards who stand across the exit because there is no other room for them means it takes 5-10 minutes to clear the top rows, well after the rest of the ground is empty. Think about that, those of you who are already half way to Finsbury Park while we are watching the groundsmen.
4. The bloke next to us often leaves early with his 8 year old son mid-week who has school next day. The alternative? Not bring him? Would that make him a ‘real supporter’? Mind you we always score when he leaves so we encourage him now 😉
5. What gets on my nerves a lot more is people coming in late because they’ve been in the Tollington etc. just getting one last pint in. Are they not proper supporters?
By all means lets show a bit of respect to each other – stay if at all possible, don’t keep making people stand up to get past when the ball’s in play, sing your heart out when you are there. But let’s drop this nonsense that if you have another commitment in your life from time to time it means you are letting the team down and aren’t a proper fan.
Oops, sorry guys my 11.24 comment was posted in error – wrong blog ! Can you delete it please Raspers ?
Chary, you are such a tart 🙂
I’ll take it off now if Rasp hasn’t got there already.
Yes, I am a blog whore Alfa – I’m always after Beyonce, as Adebarndoor would say.
Talking of dumb things done regarding leaving early –I went to a cup game(against Rotheram I think it was) at Highbury where it was 1-1with 5 minutes to go. So I thought it was a neat idea to avoid the rush. When I got home I found out I missed extra time and a penalty shoot out – what an idiot I was !
Suffice to say I’ve stayed right to the very end since.
Good morning all and thank you Peaches for including me in the rant, love the artwork too thanks Rasp. Rant Friday seems to be having a good turn out today with plenty of new posters. 3 rants in one post is bound to stir up some attention.
Rasps beef; I totally agree with but can totally see it from Dazza’s perspective, when I’m travelling from Yorkshire it’s always difficult. But then again it’s so sad to see empty seats. Arsenals should mabe take action and lock the doors – emergency egress only!
Livers I agree too, Sol is making everyone see that there’s life after 30, but I also think that true gooners will take the 1 year contract as did our deighty Bergkamp. Really players leaving at that age do not need the final one big pay day, a true gooner will stay, if they want to go then let them. I do think the threshold should be raised to 33 though.
As for my beef I take refuge in that there are a few good eggs appearing out there, Darren Lewis and Martin Samual from the papers as they took the correct stance on the Ramsey ordeal. In the meantime I’ll swap Talksport for Radio 4 and get myself some brain exercise.
@Alfa
1) I agree TFL are at fault for not upgrading holloway road. Perhaps it would be a worth investment by Arsenal to make it safe for large amounts of people especially if it encourages fans to stay longer? Like I said before surely the 30mins extra is worth it to show the appreciation to the players as long as it doesn’t stop you getting home.
2)For midweek games it should affect anything because realistically what are you going to be doing at 11pm with work the next day? Weekend matches maybe but if my girlfriend told me I needed to be home by a certain time she’d definitely get told where to go! For family surely they can wait the extra half an hour? For other commitments such as work obviously it’s non-negotiable.
3)Agreed. Narrow, steep staircases and some dimwitted stewards definitely don’t help.
4)My dad used to take me to most midweek matches but not all when I was quite young. I would hardly say it affected me or my education as I’m now studying a degree in Engineering. Trade offs have to be made. Why not stay the whole game but go to bed early the next night? That was normally what I had to do.
5)100% agree with people turning up late. Leaving early is one thing but why can’t you make a match on time when the kick off has been known for weeks? What’s more important, 1 beer or making sure you’re there on time?
Hi all – i’ve taken charys comment off.
chary – can you just put another comment on to make sure you don’t go into spam
Sure Peachy, are you going to the Wolves game?
I e mailed you mrs.nuts. 😉
When you live abroad it is quite expensive as well. To install Sky (which is illegal but nobody cares) costs about 1000K, then the card costs or the Sky subs.HD is a rip off with 10.00 a month to pay Sky and the new ESPN channel is also 10.00 per month and never works at night.
ranttaveandriot
Sorry, but your argument, and supposed questioning of another arsenal fan.. irrespective of where he was born, where he lives now, or what shoe size he is.. is downright rude and uncalled for.
that kind of innane banter… “i’m from camden, i’m proper arsenal, i’ve got arsenal curtains and coffee cups”
is just so 1980’s… football is a global game.. let alone a national game.
there are possbily more gooners who live around the world… than there are that live in ingerrland.. let alone around the N5 vacinity.
that kind of little britain talk, is just not very becoming of an arsenal fan.
manure fans generally dish out that kind of talk between oldham reds and london reds.
leave it to them.. we are far more classy, as a club and as a set of fans.
imvhaho.
respect to you leicest daz for making the round trips to the emirates.
TommyS – @ your 11.38, I also thought Bobby McMahon on Fox sprits homed in on the truth(“It was a scythe, not a tackle etc..”) like an exocet – but people like him, Patrick Barclay, Martin Samuel & like a few and far between.
~ Fox Sports, that should be.
More of a Kernel I’d say 😉
rantraveandriot, let me add my welcome to Arsenal Arsenal, good to have you here. It is all about balance, and it’s great to see kids at the games – missing a bit of school once in a while is no big deal, I’ll agree with that. In the end, you have to make some effort to be part of the club and support the team, otherwise why bother?
However,
Not everyone works 9-5 Monday to Friday. I wish that I was never working at 11pm on a weekday but sadly sometimes I am.
I don’t need to tell my wife where to go on match days. Far from nagging me to get home, she is in her seat next to me at the match. We’ve both been supporters for 40 years+ and lucky enough to have season tickets in the last few. And we nearly always stay (normally later than most other supporters as I explained), but we do have other family commitments as well.
All I’m saying is don’t assume everyone going is a single bloke living in North London with no other commitments and then judge everyone by that standard.
Must have been good to go with your Dad. My first time was with my Dad on the North Bank in 1970 – it put him off for quite a while 😆
@Stringfellow Hawke
If you read my later post I was just being curious and wanted to know a bit more about him. I didn’t mean for it to come out as an attack on him. Should of worded it better.
I agree that a lot of fans don’t live in North London now. Like I said I now travel to games from Guildford on the train yet have never felt the need to either miss a match or leave early. I normally get to waterloo for the 11.15 train if not earlier so it is possible.
I know people who travel from Exeter and even further but if you’re travelling that far you should know that there will be certain sacrifices you have to make.
But would you really like to see us become a “man utd of the south” in terms of where our fans are from? At the moment it is a splattering of fans who come from areas outside of london and isn’t even comparable to the amount of surrey & kent based united fans.
The other thing is that surely if you travel all that way you’d want to get the maximum possible entertainment?
thanks for that chary we should have a sidebar for “allies of arsenal” pity is they are usually ex gooners so they don’t count.
Mind you the amount of times ive wanted alan smith or brian marwood to stick up for us and it aint happened, its unbelievable really.
Bob Wilson is the best pro arsenal speaker ive heard of late, his ramsey rant was strictly one way and no other opinion was welcome!
Anyway fox sports we dont get so i envy you on that one chary!
I would agree with all those points, rantrave..
but we are not a dictatorship.. it’s sad a lot of people have to leave early.. the main reason being the appaling transport links… but each to their own.
The biggest gripe i would have… is with those that nip off to HT early and come back 10 minutes later.
Getting late to the game and leaving early are 99% all about transport.. so easily answerable.
The half time mob leave a lot more to be desired.
I agree that the transport is the main reason. But for the other things like family commitments etc how come it never used to affect things at Highbury? There were rarely any empty seats at FT at least not to the level it is now.
I agree that latecomers & the halftime burger bunch are infinitely worse than the people who leave slightly early.
I think after watching me watch the 4-4 game at anfield last year my girlfriend knows better than to cross me when it comes to Arsenal. I completely lost my rag that day. Firstly at Arshavin’s brilliance but more so at the horrendous defending by us. I try to make it up to her afterwords but I think the Cesc Fabregas song sums it up pretty well!!
I only got the clip of Bobby McMahon off various Arsenal blogs around TommyS – I don’t have Fox either.
I think I put the link of the clip up a while back.
When the interviewer asks him about intent you can see he’s thinking “What an idiot thing to say!”
Daz, Alfa, your both right in what you say but I think its not so much people like yourselfs as the ones who leave 10-15mins early everytime irrespective of the game. 5 mins can equal 30mins home early and when you have an important reason or with your train booking daz its understandable.
But the case I cited earlier is where I get frustrated when the team needs everyone to get behind them not walk out………
As wenger once said “we all think their wife is prettiest” Well similar could be said ” we all think we are the most loyal and best supporter of our Club”
But there are many in there that I just dont think are true supporters, who dont understand what it means. last season I was sat lower tier blk 30, a bloke two along from me was chuntering away about how shit we were and bemoaning eboue and bendtner warming up, it was against Sunderland if i remember, we were struggling to score. Me and a couple were trying to get behind the team and encourage others, this prat was having none of it and was slating them. His retort was “If I goto a west end show I dont clap if its shit, I come here to be entertained” What an absolute arse, as I pointed out that “as a supporter its is different and you are here come rain or shine to support and if your entertained all well and good.” He kept gobbing, but a few well chosen words he shut up and sat down, all to the amusement of the others around us………And yep you guessed it he left early!!!
So to people like you Daz who do travel that little further, (i travel from Chatham which takes about 90mins – no I wasnt born in Chatham, but aylesbury my dad took me to Highbury in 1974 and I have attended every season since)fair play to you and when you read articles like this it is not you that the criticism is aimed at………
stick it up again chary please, id be very grateful 🙂
Rant-riot. As a budding engineer you above all should realise, that there is more than one solution to most problems.
Maybe when you are married with a couple of kids and living further out than Guildford because of financial strictures you will appreciate the effort and sacrifices, that not only the Arsenal fans, but also their nearest and dearest make for their loved ones obsession.
Providing of course you have a job post uni. to help support your lifestyle.
I want a rant.
I would like to know what is the point of a 4 official. They do Sweet FA. I guess their main role is to get an earful of abuse from managers angry at poor refereeing. They cannot work out the additional time – as Livers points out – there is no consistency about time added on for substitutions. All in all they are useless.
So why not employ them in a different way? Why can’t the 4th official make a tally of fouls by a team and inform the ref. that Mr X has kicked Fab up in the air 5 times or that there is a pattern to a teams fouling which shows intent?
Bút No! These men are just paid for nothing. Contribute nothing: Bin them and bring in technology to help the ref.
It’s here TommyS(about half way down the page) : http://www.7amkickoff.com/2010/profits-arshavin-tv-transfers-and-film-arsenal-do-have-other-stuff-going-on-you-know/ Some of the comments are quite good too.
Morning Raddy… get out of the wrong side of the bed did we LOLOL
As to the leaving early argument.
Why didn’t this happen at Highbury? And please don’t tell me that there were less fans, because now there are 4/5 tube stations within easy walking distance, and most fans come by car.
Those who have long journeys are by far the minority – we are not MU !
Hey it’s Friday DD 😉
I know exactly what you mean. There are many sacrifices I make financially and socially. I’ve been paying for my own ticket ever since I was old enough to work (I’m 21 now) and missed many nights out due to midweek games. But it’s more than an obsession. It’s a way of life. I guess it depends on how much you value Arsenal really. To me though, as sad as it may sound, it ranks very high in my priorities. I’ll expand more later but it’s lunchtime!
Harry, I am with you 100% on that one. The booing of EE was a real low point, I couldn’t quite believe it, but non stop moaning from one or two near me is truly incredible. Mind you, it’s another good sign that we are going to score. Good example against Porto ‘Andre, you ate too many pies, you’re useless you fat ****, get him off’… 2-0! 🙂
I just think maybe a lot of people aren’t really used to watching football. A good mate who posts on here, Chaf, says they ought to go and watch a film instead, because they only enjoy it if they know what the ending is going to be 😆 Try telling your West End show fan that next time.
Br – do you honestly believe “most fans come by car”?
I don’t agree about poor transport links. There are three underground stations within 20 minutes walk from the Emirates and countless buses on the Holloway Road.
Obviously redevloping Holloway Road station would ease the burden and having trains calling at Drayton Park on match days would also help.
I used to stand in the queue for Arsenal Station when we played at Highbury but the walk to Finsbury Park is far more enjoyable……….
Pity the poor spuds eh, they have one rubbish station, I don’t know how they expect to get their new numbers away from their proposed ground.
peaches – even TFL agree about the poor transport links.. as do the club, which is why they cited upgrades that were to be funded as part of the emirates development.
SH. Yes, I believe that.
Check out Hornsey Lane, Finsbury Pk, Holloway Rd, Upper St etc etc. Chockablock after the game. I lived close to the ground for most of my life and trying to park (pre residents permits)) was impossible
It would be very interesting to see where the fans in the ground come from. AFC must have the statistics. I wonder if I can find them?
6 Tube Stations….. Holloway Rd, Arsenal, Finsbury Pk, Archway, Angel, Highbury & Islington. All within 20 minutes walk.
SH. Compare our links to ANY other London ground. We have far more exit possibilities.
We have better travel links than Wembley!
BR – you owe me one peroni… 😉
i will wager a case of peronis that most fans travel to the emirate via public transport.
are we on?
thanks for your efforts chary!
Br – as i say.. TFL and Arsenal agree the links as they stand are not capable of coping with the 60,000 people the frequent the emirates on game days.
i can only go on what they say.. and from my personal experiences of going to the emirate.
i travelled from kent to the emirates for the entire fist season at the new ground with my season ticket and it was a nightmare after games… i left after the game finsihed.
it was never as bad at highbury.
Maybe people who live in London cope better with the transport problems. Maybe its the psychological effect of knowing that actually you’re not very far from home.
SH. I won’t take the bet as neither of us can prove our point!
But. The deal with LT was set up prior to the THOF development as part of the redevelopment scheme for the area. LT/AFC were meant to build a tunnel between the ground & the tube station.
However, almost all the fans going to the ground are whole and healthy and rather than moan in a queue at Holloway – they could walk off the burger and go to Angel.
Let’s find another bet so that I can win back my Peroni. Arshavin to score tomorrow?
peaches – that could be the case.
but the shorter the journey, the less chance you have of delays.. that just makes logical sense.
so what does not make sense… if a large percentage of season tickets went to those in the borough of islington… and they do not have issues getting home…
can all those who leave early really be from outside of london?
Peaches, to give an example, I live less than 10 miles from the ground but there is no direct tube route anywhere near my house and a bus would take 1.5 – 2 hours. The overground from Finsbury Park is great but to my station there only 2 unreliable trains an hour, and I have to drive to my nearest station.
This probably sounds pretty tame to people coming from Guildford, York etc., but my point is only to illustrate that even for comparative locals the transport is poor. Sometimes it takes me 1 .5 hrs to get home. I’ve walked home from the Archway in 2 hrs before, so something isn’t right. I missed the Bentley goal in the 4-4 with Spurs because the trains were cancelled and I had to find another route.
Mind you Wembley is even worse, a complete disaster in my view.
fair play BR… ok you go for Arshavin to score tommorow.. i will go for Diaby to score
in the hope we are both proved correct 🙂
It seems as though I am having a go at those who leave earrly. I am not – it is their prerogative.
I just don’t buy the travel aspect. We look forward to the game, talk about it endlessly and then leave the ground before it is over??? Just to get home 20 minutes early and watch the highlights? Puulleez
I think it is sheep mentality. One leaves and the others panic about the potential problems.
i lived approx 15 miles from the ground..( north kent is adjacent to london!! )
and it was a 4 hour round trip on match days.
Raddy – thats an interesting idea that you think a lot travel to the game by car – I do know a few who use their cars and I’m surprised that they do. I drove once to a Champions Lge game and it took me an hour and a half – almost an hour just to get through Crouch End and along Hornsey Road.
Door to door at any other time would be less that half an hour.
SH. Simple answer.
Buy a Bicycle. Good for you and at an average of 12 mph (not difficult) much quicker 😉
Bet taken
Nothing psycho about Kings Cross when you have missed your intercity and have at least an hour to wait knowing if that one doesnt run, your gonna be on the milk train. Been there done that
Peaches. ALL my friends drove to the ground – still do
Br – it is no issue to me, i’m cool with the travel, adn never left early.
but i can sympathise with those who have.. if they have long journeys home and travel delays expectant.
those who live close enough.. them i dont agree with.
Then we agree SH
we do agree.. as long as we make the distinction between the local london early leavers and the far travelled ones.
Thats official then – The Winch is the best place to live, must be why there are so many Goons here 🙂
Alfa – do you drive then? Come to the Winch we don’t have any trouble…….
Err where the hell is the winch, would that be Winchmore Hill.
Yes 😉
Well that killed the conversation 😦
It’ll be quiet for a few hours more Peachy, if you’re still here, as I said earlier, I take it you are going to the Wolves game?
Hi chary – yes I’m going to the Wolves game – we’ll be meeting for Peronis then? Are you not going to West Ham?
Great Peachy, I’ll be there for Wolves for Peroni’s all round at the Tavern; can’t make West Ham as I’ll be seeing my parents in Kent that day after the airport run to Heathrow in the morning.
A pity the boy wonder won’t be fit for Wolves, I’ll have my older son with me and Robin is his favourite player.
After that I’m trying for the Shitty game as Fulham will probably be sold out.
I go by bicycle, it takes me twenty five minutes from my seat in the ground to my sofa at home in Little Venice, if I went by train it would take me the same amount of time just to get on the tube platform.
Great title Rasp with some good rants and there was I thinking that Friday might not be a particularly good day for a rant, tut tut this is unusual because as you know I am always right.
I love rant Friday, though I can’t really comment on today’s post.
As we’re talking travel times, I drive for 40 minutes, from leafy Buckinghamshire, to park in Ealing, then a succession of unreliable connections and engineering works effected tube lines later I usually get to the Gillespie Road tube around the 2 hours 15 minutes mark.
So that’s a round trip of 5 hours, on a good day.
But I’d do it every day if I could go to every match.
So does any one think the too many stars thing could be a reason for RM’s exit?
Man U were a team built by Fergie to cater to CR7.
I’m not sure Mayank(but so many super-inflated egos in the same team can’t help), but you have to laugh at General Franco’s team – all that cash spunked away and they still fail at the same stage as they have for the previous 5 years in the Champions League.
You’d have to have a heart of stone not to find that hilarious.
They must be dreading the thought of Barca running round their stadium with the trophy.
Lets hope it’s us in the final, we would all be welcomed with open arms. If we win, will everything be on the house? or am I getting carried away on my birthday!!!! Dream on !!! Goooonerssssss!!!
Hilarious is right Chary.
They were unlucky though. Strikers were poor, and they clearly have problems assessing a decent CF – Huntelaar, on whom they lost €12m in a season looks dreadful at AC, Benzema at €45m looks a fine player but a hell of a lot of money.
But Ronaldo was by far the best player on the pitch v Lyons
Happy Birthday Benwell.
Keep dreaming
can i say… what is with all this Peroni nonesense?
there are far, far, far better alcoholic beverages to choose from!
starting with a can of genius
I take umbrage at this slur upon the finest ale available.
I have yet to have a decent pint of stout outside of Ireland, and if a beer cannot travel, it doesn’t cut it for me!
However, as a wine man and in particular an Italian Red wine man, I have to agree there are better alcoholic beverages, but not beers.
It was great fun to see the trembling lower lip on the lady boys face, just like at the CL final last may, Radders. But I’m sure Franco’s team will go out and spunk another quarter of a billion squid on more Galacticos soon enough.
Sergio Ramos…. over €20m !!! The man is another Stepanovs.
SfH,in the absence of my all time favourite lager, nay elixir of the gods -Rignes, then Peroni comes a close second. I first tasted this most exquisite lager at a place you may well know – The Trading Post in B’heath.
Bloody hell, little did I know that a simple point about fans leaving early would lead to a debate about London transport – I’m expecting Ken Livingstone on any minute.
Apologies to those who were offended because they leave early for perfectly good reason. I’d just say that you are in the minority and not the people my post was aimed at. The very fact that you were offended means you support the Arsenal as fervently as any of us and I thank you for taking the time to share your view with us.
I prefer draft being an ex publican.
Cheap deals are killing us! By the way Lidl have got 8 cans of the black stuff for £6.25 BARGAIN!
Doesn’t like the taste of beer, will drink the odd Bud on a really hot day,but that is it and as for stout is concerned, horrible stuff.
Leave early !!!! blimey I wish I could get there. might buy one of those cheap flats in Highbury Square.
All about Talksport has been said but how they can have 2 ex cricketers in Irani and Gough having a serious discussion about football beats me.
I hope Gallas is offered a 2 year deal.We need a few older heads to balance the team .
lol, yes i know it well, chary
Your rant day is a big success Rasp. enjoy it mate, well done
Everyone drinks San Miguel here for one reason only, it’s cheap and also vile.
Thanks dandan – persuading Mickey Quinn and Adrian Durham to hold that tee shirt was the hard part 😛
An ice cold Tuborg Classic is a fine tipple.
I guess Peaches is a Babycham Girl 😉
I’ve heard he will be offered a two year deal I feel they should do it given the average age of team.
It was hard to offer the others a deal as DB kept signing his one year extensions, in hindsight it was daft not to offer Bobby P a two year deal at the time seeing as we were losing TH and DB at te time ie taking circa 60 odd goals and god knows how many assists out of the team.
Kelsey, are you in Spain, we are over there for a long break later in the year.
1. Pint of Genius
2. Pint of draught Leffe
3. Glass of Chilean Merlot
4. Glass of Argentinian Malbec
5. Crisp cold glass of Pinot Grigio ( wonderful on a summers evening )
Thinking cricket. We will not get many better days than today,. Shame KP faltered but it made fine viewing.
p.s. did you know that there are cricket streams as well as football, and they are very reliable
there are streams for all sports.. the boxing ones for the big PPV fights are very good.
Gin and tonic in a long glass, Cold Chablis on a summers day and Reds to numerous to mention in good company. I Never drink alone.
Thanks dandan,
I hope I’ve inspired the rest fo you and others to have a moan next friday. I’ve got enough to last all year but it’d be good to hear what’s bothering the rest of you.
SH – we have similar tastes in the falling over stuff it appears
Pinot Grigio – spot on.
Smooth Merlot – the best of the reds IMO
Pint of warm Adnams after a game of cricket – priceless
I like the genius but it goes straight to my belly and my body’s a temple 🙄
Just done a nice bottle of Chilean Merlot with my nice birthday Friday off work lunch, unfortunately the missus forgot her purse!
Not to worry, still got that sweet victory glow!
a pint of genius has less calories than a pint of lager and a pint of milk
little known.. but 100% correct fact!!
1. Chilled glass of good Champagne. Unbeatable.
2. A good Amarone –
3. Decent Chablis
4. Cold Peroni
5. New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc
6. A nice cup of tea
Felt for KP he had worked damn hard and was unlucky. Cooke could fill his boots tomorrow. lets hope he does
Has anyone heard about the training ground bust-up at Hull? Apparently Jimy Bullard and Nicky Barmby had fisticuffs and it was witnessed by the local WI who happened to be passing by at the time.
i played in the same football team as bullard at school.. he was nowt special back then
made a real career out of hard work for himself.
I cannot believe that Gooners were saying we should sign Bullard in the summer. Madness!
Good engine, reasonable tackler but not much else (hope I m not putting a curse on us for tomorrow)
& Barmby needs punching
You forgot to add injury prone to that list Raddy.
Yes the orange one has just apologised according to the TV. Good team spirit tomorrow then, midfield that wont pass to one and another
I wouldn’t have minded if we’d signed James Milner from Newcastle, but we are well catered for in his position I suppose.
Yes dandan,
One of the Marbella Mob 😉
milner is an awesome little player.. should start for england at the world cup ahead of lampard imo.
Will be just across the lake at Mar Menor.
Again, I agree SH. I hate to say it but I thought Carrick and Milner completely transformed England the other day. I’d sacrifice Lumplard and Stevieme for those two.
Sorry Kelsey got that wrong La Manga is across the lake you are up the coast
I like Milner as well.
Reminds me of the Romford Pele
Thinking of Spain. I really dislike Adebayor…..
That was because Song hadn’t established that position and we were all looking elsewhere, thank god for the prof, but I bet even he didn’t see that one working out as well as it has!
i have no idea why england do not adopt the same system as arsenal?
use carrick or barry in the dm role
with 2 of gerrrard, lampard or milner ahead.
the players are not right for 4-4-2
how many years have they tried to accomodate both of them in the team without resorting to sticking one of them wide?
4-1-4-1 is made for this england squad.
I agree Lampard was not good and Gerrard looks well peed off with his lot at the moment. But Rooney has become some player.
A player like Gerrard relies entirely upon power and the miles are starting to show.
Fat Frank is undroppable (IMO) but I would play Carrick ahead of SG
I remember Lampard at WHU and saying how I would like us to sign him. He is a really fantastic player and like his Chav mates a deeply unpleasant man,
i would rather gerrard in the team ahead of lumpy.
they are both beginning to show the last 5/6 years of slogging box to box is catching up with them
liverpool could be a ramshackle top 10 club very soon, they have nothing coming through in the youth ranks, and are more or less moribund and have no cash to buy any top players.
very tough years ahead for them.. unless another rich arab step into the fray and picks them up.
It’s quite ironic that all the so called pundits, especially on Talkshite had us down as the top four club to crumble, not the dippers.
As for Capello he is paid for big decisions and he will have to choose between Lumps or Gero as at the top level you cannot play a team that accomodates players on past glories, Carrick has to be in as he dictates the tempo! We should have got him off WHU when we had the chance!
Any man that has a history of both Spuds and Mancs is unwelcome at THOF. It shows a complete lack of judgement which is an essential for an Arsenal man
Happy Birthday Benwell
Have a great evening, I am off to the Albert Hall to see some Flamenco with my better half.
He was only a teenager then, we could have educated him!
It’s ok for Flamenco but not for boxing apparantly!
Hope you,ve dusted off the tandem London!
Have a good evening Benwell and London. Look out for Mrs. Alfa and daughter at the West Ham match for me as I will be far away.
We should have signed half that WHU team.
Carrick, Cole, Lampard, Defoe etc. Shame the Hammers have such a load of poo playing for them now
We will and we wil try and save some Capt Morgans for their coffee!
Many Happy Returns Benwell.
I was thinking of celebrities past and present that support our club.
Pete Murray, Mike and Bernie Winters, Roger Daltry, Alan Davies, the fat gay guy with glasse from the village (forgot his name)and then i get stuck.
dandan, we are 5 hours down the coast from la manga( about 40 minutes from Gibraltar.)
We’ve got Rory McGrath sitting by us everyone says “is that Rory Bremner?”
Matt Lucas I think you mean, South Bank show bloke, Mick Jagger all of Madness except Suggs and it goes on and on Chaf can let us know.
Matt Lucas that’s the guy.
I used to sit next to Dermot O’Leary in the Clock End. Top bloke.
Then there is the Queen, Duke of Wellington, Elvis Presley, and as you will come to see, many more.
Bullard and Barmby are in the squad for Hull.
Elvis Presley ?
The Pet Shop Boys. Baby Spice. Prince William before he went all Rugby Union.
Rod Stewart should be, being Highgate born.
Kelsey…. don’t you read my posts?
The orange one probably feels a bit of tension will give them an edge tomorrow, like leaving them on the pitch for a half time rollicking! Tosser
Rod was a big Celtic fan, but his local team Epping would probably beat them now.
Cooking tonight- Roast duck, an orange salad and new pots, washed down by a Chilean Syrah.
That MUST score me brownie points.
Laters all.
Rod used to go to our matches, Prince William is a Villa fan but Harry is a Gooner, for what it’s worth!
Dear old Denton got his job as a minder for the Pet Shop Boys through their mutual love of the Arsenal. Really pissed the old bill off saying it was like having a Rottweiller looking after two Chihaua’s!
Evening
Happy Birthday Benwell – sounds like you had a nice lunch.
The actress that plays Lucy Beale from Eastenders – we saw her the other week coming out of the ground.
Aha, I know where you sit then as I’ve sat in the same row as Rory McGrath.
the scottish indian chap… appears on the on show, wears bright turbans
can’t remember the last time i went to the emirates and did not see him walking around.
hardeep kholi.. thats his name.
We saw her going in that day, with a load of youngsters calling her a slag, in a joking sort of way! Bless them!
Raddy,
no 😉
I used to see Rod stewart there quite often.I think he was once on the books of Brentford
Melissa Suffield is Lucy.
He was indeed when he was a grave digger, he also played a lot for Roving Reporters and our youth team used to play near their pitch. He used always ask how we got on etc, good bloke, then we used to see Rod 1 Lambo outside the boozer on Highgate Hill.
Just found this site and think it’s fucking brilliant. One thing that stands out is I dint think I’ve seen one negative comment about the players or the team which suggest this is a forum for true supporters.
This leads me nicely onto my Rant about the moaning few who spend all game slagging off the players or Le Boss for not splashing the cash. I woulnt mind so much if we being spanked but not when we are WINNING!!. If these people don’t like the way we play or the fact we don’t hire mercenaries like the Mancs, Shitty and Chelski do, then stay at home and watch Eastenders with the tossers at Spuds. Leave us supporters to enjoy the beautiful game we play and get behind the team like we did Last Saturday and on Tues. Lets have more of that boys and show these cunts and indeed the wankers at Talkshite, Sky & the Dweebs that this club and it’s manager is greatest thing that will ever happen to the EPL. That’s why everyone wants to watch us now.
Welcome Shevo,
There will be a New Post going up in the next hour regarding today’s game, hang around. Your input is welcome.
kelsey – what you doing in drafts? Leave it alone please 😉
Great comment Shevo.
Morning all
